Greetings all! A noob here just starting to explore and grasp Linux, ARM, and SBC's. I hope I'm posting in a correct area; don't want to ruffle any feathers. I've worked with IoT for a bit, while we several Rpi's collected dust until I put one to work with Node Red for a smart-home project. That sparked my interest, and I aquired a used Rock64 board relatively cheap to play. In retrospect it may have not been the right choice but I have it now. After trying several "dis-jointed" OS's steered to by the Pine website, and finding them to only work partially, at best, I came across Armbian after much searching. I'm very glad I did. I find the OS I selected to be very ade…

Hi I am using a NanoPi M1+ device with nanopi-m1-plus_sd_friendlycore-xenial_4.14_armh OS in it. I attached an RTL8188EU WiFi adapter in it. But the **ifconfig** doesn't show up. An hour a go I powered down my Neo Core 2 and now I can't get it to boot properly. When I hook it to the serial Monitor this is the output. It tries to load the "-fixup.scr" file in the /boot/dtb/allwinner/overlay folder but of course this is not available. With the extfls command I searched the folder and those two files would be available: sun50i-h5-fixup.scr sun50i-a64-fixup.scr The "sun50i-h5-fixup.scr" would be the right one for my processor however why does it choose "-fixup.scr" instead? I have several Pi3s and two Asus Tinkers. They work well, Tinker is a bet better of the two. Want something fast to use with my 3D print. and Octoprint etc. So want to run CAD software, Slicer etc. and control of my Creality CR-10. - So, I bought OrangePi and had bad initial experience, and boot SW was in Chinese. Hey fellas I have FOUR different armbian devices (one official armbian, three running ophub's armbian) which all seem to struggle with network throughput at high latency connections. It is not a cpu issue and this doesn't occur on x86 debian. Here's the odd thing. If I connect an ethernet usb dongle, like rtl8152b I get the full throughput even at high latency. What??? So it's a nic issue? I thought maybe the onboard ethernet isn't well supported by the kernel so I got a nanopi neo4 with onboard realtek gigabit running official armbian 6.12.3x ... AND it's slow too. Any onboard nic with armbian is slow in my tests. …

Hello all. A possible mission impossible challenge for someone who wishes to accept it and this message will not self-destruct in 10 seconds. :-) The LED1 (green) and LED2 (blue) on the BanabaPi Pro. How do I get them to show the watchdog heart beat and the MMC card usage? An out-of-date Rasbian Distro for the Lemaker BananaPi Pro had this feature this right-out-of-the-box, but at the moment on Armbian I've only got the steady red power LED. Is there a way to enable this functionality within Armbian?

I am using orangepi zero LTS board I have seen this happen with both Armbian_21.08.1_Orangepizero_focal_current_5.10.60.img and Armbian_21.08.1_Orangepizero_buster_current_5.10.60.img images, although this problem seemingly solved itself randomly in the focal version. Hi At the beginning I would like to say hi. I do not know English well, so please be patient. I will try to describe my problem. I have a Nanopi K2 and a Waveshare 7 LCD HDMI (C) display. After connecting and starting Nanopi, nothing is displayed. It seems to me that the computer can not properly start. When I turn on the Nanopi and the system will load, then I connect the display and it works correctly. Picture and touch work. What could be the reason? Where to start? Regards Trebor

Hello I'm just wondering that there are two release files in /etc and why they have different VERSION values. In armbian-image-release file, VERSION is 20.08.1 But it is 21.08.8 in armbian-relase file. armbian-config and welcome massages also show version as 21.08.8 So I think 21.08.8 is correct one, but then why armbian-image-release has incorrect version value? Is it a bug? Or am I missing something? Please help me. Thank you.

Greetings, I recently changed from an old loboris ubuntu distribution to armbian for my opi PC. I never had problems with it, it was just not getting updates for a long time since it's old and not a LTS. I never had problems with openvpn also.. installing from apt and creating ca's and users was a breeze. Now with armbian i simply cannot get it to work, i tried both with apt and compiling the latest version from source. I cannot get it to start. Doing systemctl start openvpn Job for openvpn.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status openvpn.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details. journalctl -xe -- …

Dear all, so after switching from bananian to armbian around half a year ago, I've made several updates to the bananapi server running. As the prototype server is still running with bananian, some problems just occured as I am now testing a fresh install of my web-package, including nginx, mysql, php7 / laravel and some other stuff. So what I realized was that the database, even on a fresh install, is extremely slow. I thought the newer setup with debien stretch and mariadb 10.1+ might be the problem, yet running the same on the older armbian jessie build did not change anything. I also set up a fresh virtual machine running debian stretch with two cores,…

Hi there, this might be a dumb question but I've done some searching and haven't gotten any closer to a solution, so, my apologies. I need to connect to my NanoPi M4 over the serial UART because I've made the eMMC unbootable, and I need to tell the board to boot from microSD so I can fix it. I've attempted to do this in both 'minicom' and 'screen' at 1500000 8N1 and the result is the same either way. I can see output from the NanoPi just fine, but when I attempt to send characters, it only displays a question mark imprinted on a square for each character, similar to what I'd expect if e.g. the character was not in my terminal font. It's not just a …

Hello, I have an old PCduino 3 that I would like to return to a more dignified life. But I see that it is currently considered as EOS so it will not have an update to Bionic or Stretch. But is it possible to do it unofficially with Armbian build?, if not, can I at least update it from Xenial to Bionic without breaking everything?

According to FriendlyARM the soon available pcDuino4 Nano is a 100 percent compatible variant of NanoPi M1: http://www.cnx-software.com/2016/09/13/20-pcduino4-nano-is-yet-another-allwinner-h3-development-board-sort-of/#comment-531770 In case you want to run Armbian on your pcDuino4 Nano please choose the OS images for M1: http://www.armbian.com/nanopi-m1/ (the sole purpose of this thread is to feed our forum search and external search engines. No need to really discuss this hardware @Igor: As soon as the first user confirms Armbian works you could add IMO a download page similar to the one for Orange Pi+ 2 )

All of the docs that I see on how to use the kernel gpio_keys refers to dts (device tree). The kernel module is present in Armbian legacy 5.20 Jessie Desktop. /lib/modules/3.4.112...../gpio_keys.ko I understand it should map gpio inputs to keystrokes. But all usage/configuration info I can find refers to entries made in Device Tree -- gpio-keys { compatible = "gpio-keys"; left-key { label = "Left key"; gpios = <&gpio0 17 0>; linux, code = <69>; /* KEY_LEFT */ }; } This refers to some other underlying hardware, but it is an example... So my question... I don't believe Armbian legacy…

I have an N2+ that I'm flashing Debian Buster onto an emm card. Have tried numerous times in several variations -- flash emm, boot system, log in via ssh, set up personal account, "apt update", "apt upgrade", reboot. After that I cannot log in via ssh anymore. I am using the system in headless mode and don't currently have a working serial connection (SiLabs hasn't updated their drivers to Big Sur yet) so I can't tell if the system is booting but ssh isn't working. Anyone know why "apt upgrade" would cause it to not boot or not present an ssh server properly?

Hi, All! I have modified w1-therm kernel module. Now device directory contains two more files w1_read and w1_convert_all. You can read sensor memory without triggering temperature conversion using the first one and you can trigger the temperature conversion on all sensors (implemented using "skip ROM") with the second one. I needed this modification to speed up sensor reading. Now I start temperature measurement on all sensors (it takes 750ms on 18B20) and then read the results. Earlier reading sensor (using w1_slave) required 750+ms for each sensor. Here is the result for my 10sensors 1wire network (using the usual w1_slave required 8.5sec, with new feature…

Hello there, I am using Armbian 20.11.6 Buster with Linux 4.4.213-rk3399 on a Nanopi M4V2, I have connected 3 SATA HDDs and use mdadm (for a RAID 5 Array of those drives), luks lvm and ext4 (in that order, more details below) to store my backups. `armbianmonitor -u` link: http://ix.io/2NYv Recently I have received errors in borg backup, about mismatching checksums. Hi, I am using Armbian 5.90 on an BananaPi as a RTL-TCP server for an RTL-SDR stick which plugs in the USB port. Everything work fine since more than a year. Now since one of the latest updates, the RTL-TCP server doesn't work anymore 24/7. After a while, I can not connect to the server anymore. I studied the logs and it seems, that kernel/udev/upowerd powers off the USB-port where the RTL-SDR stick is plugged. The stick reinitializes, but the binding of the stick to the running server gets lost. There seems to be something new to the kernel/system which cyclically drops the USB connection to my stick. Any ideas, how to …

hi all, would love to run 'mainline' kernel on some of the boards. Armbian does provide 'choice' today for most/many Orange boards as well as NanoPI ... tu build the image with mainline/4.9 kernel. my needs are not too complex a) Ethernet USB to drive USB DAC ... Is there anyone on a forum who has tried recent 4.9-rc or maybe even 4.8 and it worked well and if yes which boards did you use ? I am running Odroid-C2 happily with Armbian and 3.14.79 kernel but some of the very old bugs have been fixed later on (kernel bugs) and am looking for a board that might run recent kernel well (enough). Thank you !

Hello Everyone! What is the kernel config option that I need to set to enable the VPU driver? Hello, I am running Armbian on my Hummingboard i2eX, currently with Debian Buster on 4.9.7 kernel. So, before some days I've updated some packages - so I can't say which update cause the following described problem: The Odroid boots up and doesn't do a dhcp query - the eth0 interface won't get any IP-Address. Trying to use armbian-config and set IP to DHCP wont help also, because at the next reboot this "ghost" profile appears again and overwrites the Armbian profile. If I try to activate the Armbian profile (or mine) the "ghost" profile disappears... My /etc/network/inter…

Hi, I'd like to setup log2ram so that it never writes to the disk, but rather discards all logs at shutdown. The documentation for log2ram says that if I delete /etc/cron.daily/log2ram it will only sync the logs to the disk at shutdown. But is there a way to have it not even do that? Also, in order to prevent log2ram from filling up all its space in RAM, is it possible to setup an overwrite mechanism so that the logs begin overwriting themselves once they hit the space limit?

I used armbian-config and selected "SY203 - Disable Armbian kernel upgrades" Disable Armbian kernel/firmware upgrades Would you like to continue? after selecting "Yes", the menu shows "SY202 - Enable Armbian firmware upgrades" so I check with apt-mark showhold and it returned only "armbian-firmware" Do I have to put my kernel packages on hold? linux-dtb-vendor-rk35xx linux-headers-vendor-rk35xx linux-image-vendor-rk35xx I find misleading the change in the description from SY203 to SY202: kernel ->…

Hello, initially, I would like to thank the Armbian project for making many of these SBCs that aren't so common usable with such a good distribution. I'm using a Banana Pi M2 Zero, and the manufacturer provided Android image didn't boot at all and I got concerned I had a brick. However, Armbian has multiple images for this board available and, right now, this board is running Armbian 21.08.6 Focal using the kernel Linux 5.10.60-sunxi. The performance difference compared to a Raspberry Pi Zero is dramatic. And it even has a Mali 400! Step by step, I'm getting more features on the board working, either by reading Armbian documentation or user contributions. From…

Trying to reach a headless TinkerBoard with X2Go so I can set up wifi. SELinux is disabled. I can SSH in as my user just fine, with and without -i, but when setting the Pyhoca session to "Discover SSH Keys", I get "Not a valid EC private key file!" Ok, apparently it wants an elliptic curve key. It never used to accept anything but DSA and RSA. So I made an ecdsa keypair and ssh-copy-id to the TB. Same failure. I know that X2Go can't handle ed25519 unfortunately, so I don't even have that key for my user. When setting the Pyhoca session SSH key manually to /home/bill/.ssh/id_rsa or /home/bill/.ssh/id_ecdsa, I get, "Not a valid EC private key f…

Anything involved with screen blanking /MUST/ be removed or disabled, on the bpim5, and it exists in so many places it took me 2 days of poking around to stop the no recovery except reboot if un-used for more than 15 minutes regardless of what it happens to be running at the time. When a blanker kicks in, the monitor powers down and the bpim5 goes inactive with only the red pwr led on steady, and nothing wakes it up except the reset button. These things use so little power that it doesn't bither me a bot to leave them running. I have an rpi4b running a big metal lathe that works as intended, with uptimes in years, this should be the same. It w…

Hi! I've been interested in getting a SBC for a while now and I've done a bit of “researching” during the past two weeks. I'm getting quite frustrated searching for the right one since every board seems to have a list of disadvantages which I probably don't fully understand. I also am not sure what processor/specs would be fit for my needs. The Armbian community seems to be very productive and helpful so I'm asking you to please aid me with your SBC suggestions based on the description below. My wishes a) File server: * (High priority) To run (audio) server software (Logitech Media Server/Squeezebox Server) that serves files (flac) to a net…

Hello, as i didn't found a perfect UI for my cubie and me and i always liked the look and feel of crunchbang, i developed a little script in the past to bring #! to my cubietruck. It should also work on every other debian based image, but i mainly targeted igor's image since it seemed to be the best base to start from. NOTICE: crunchbang has EOL-status, no updates coming from them! I mainly use it even though, because its very fast and stable on my cubie. This script could be injected into building process or can be run on a fresh 'install'. Just use the get_crunchy.sh script and relax or download the image from second post. It's tested on debian jessie and wheezy…

Hello all! First of all, apologies for being such a noob but I am very eager to get started and there may be some ambiguous language here as a result. I am getting started in Armbian Linux Buster on the Pine A64+ and for my first project I'd like to program a 7 segment display (four digits) to display descending numbers from 1000. As you may know, 7-segment displays with more than one digit require the display to operate at a certain frequency in order to display multiple digits as a result of the common anode/cathode configuration. I have already played around with a simple LED and have gotten it to light up in armbian linux buster on the A64 (by defining the…

There's a cheap M2 SSD, for example for sale here, but it would be a bad idea to use it in any ARM board with an M2 drive slot. I have one of these M2 drives in my laptop, and I learned the hard way how slow it will get within 1 year's use, like 30MB/sec read, 8.5 MB/sec write! Over time, this drive will gradually go slower and slower and slower, until you figure out you need a firmware upgrade. Then you'll need to use the closed-source firmware-upgrading CLI utility that Micron publishes. There is a version for linux, but it's AMD64 only. You might think you can put the M2 drive in a USB-3.0 enclosure, then firmware upgrade it in that enclosure…

Hey, I basically need the LXC Kernel modul for the lxccu homematic software. Is this already included in the newer kernel drivers for the available debian or do I need armbian? I'm not 100% sure what the differences for armbian and debian are? Could someone explain that to me? thx! Cheers Btw: Is the Allwinner R8(m) also supported? I'm just starting to build up the community for the $9 computer CHIP which uses this processor. Would be great to have some more ways in building kernels. I really need to config my own kernel there to included touch screen drivers. Is this possible with the armbian too?

I have a Windows PC and I'm going to install a Linux distribution to do some software development for my Raspberry Pi and my Orange Pi. What are people generally using as their main OS for development? Edit: Build docs mention this, so maybe Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is cleanest if that's already being used by some devs? creates development environment on the top of X86/AMD64 Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Thanks! Hi, I realize that V3s is not H2 or H3, but I hope the question is generic. Is it possible to make the FB 16 bit? In mainline Linux? I'm working with a Lichee Pi board. The depth is 18 bits but the fb in Linux is 32 bit. I'd love to get it down to 16 bits to save 1/2 of the video memory and just 2 color bits are a small price to pay. I understand that Linux inherits the FB from u-boot.

Hi All, I'm planning to use an RK3399-based system-on-module for an embedded application, and would like some advice about the work required to produce an Armbian build that runs on it. The SoM is made by Graperain ( https://www.graperain.com/ARM-Embedded-RK3399-System-On-Module-Gf/ ), and they have provided an SDK which is clearly an old copy of the Rockchip's github repo (4.4 kernel) with some unidentified tweaks to get it working on this board (including .dts files and presumably some bootloader stuff?). I realize this particular board is likely not of interest to the community, but I figure the general discussion around getting a new board running may be. …

Hi. For my application it would be very advantageous to speed up the boot time of the device as much as possible. The application depends on the network, and unfortunately it seems it takes a while for the interface to establish a connection. After plugging in the device, I count that it takes about 25-30 seconds until my application starts (which is set to start on reboot by cron). However, at that time, the network is still not up, so it matters little that the application has started. It takes another 20 seconds or so until the device is reachable by the network. So total 45-50 seconds from boot. Why is this? I see in systemd-analyze t…

I wanted to share my workaround of setting the proper resolution on both, console and Xorg: Display: Generic 5 inch 800x480 HDMI "Waveshare V2" clone Kernel: mainline Proper/usual way of doing it: 1. Edit uboot/dtb display variable -> does not work currently because only a few resolutions are supported (848x480 is the closest). 2. Add a new mode with "xrandr" and "gtf or cvt" -> but "cvt 800 480 60" does yield a modeline which totally glitches out the display. Possible workaround: 1. Set linux console to 800x480: "sudo fbset -g 800 480 800 480 32" 2. Edit or create something similar to "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/01-a…

I've looked up a couple of similar questions on this issue on the forum already but I think the others describe disabling the GUI altogether, which I don't want to do. Is it just a case of setting the variable NODM_USER in /etc/default/nodm to equal nothing or 0 or something else? Thanks!

Hello, I try to set "channel=acs_survey" in hostapd.conf but this option is not recognized and hostapd can not be started with this. Was hostapd compiled with this option? Or does it come from something else? Thx ps: sorry for my poor English...
