  3. Hi, I'm trying to run with a PREEMPT_RT kernel to get a real-time (lowest latency as possible) performance. But in addition to the PREEMPT_RT patch, I want to make sure the system doesn't go to sleep (or using power save modes) to avoid additional wake-ups latencies (that the PREEMPT_RT patch cannot reduce). I've reviewed the AXP209 datasheet and tried to understand if I can somehow disable the system from going to sleep, but I didn't find the answer for that. I do know that register 0x31 can control the entrance to sleep mode if we write '1' to bit-3, but I can't prevent other drivers or applications from doing it. Question: Is th…

  13. Hi, I'm new to Armbian and this is my first time ever compiling any Linux system. I'm sorry to bother you with such a basic question, but I just don't understand. I want to enable a kernel module. Upon browsing the kernel configuration utility menus, I don't see this functionality anywhere. But if I run search with '/', I find this, this is the module I want: How do I now proceed to enable it? Or make sure that it's enabled (if present by default)? Also, what's the meaning of =y and =m? It's listed in the resulting .config file as =y, just as the search shows.

Hi, I'm trying to enable the I2C at the U-BOOT stage, but so for with no success. I'm using Lamobo-R1 (Allwinner A20), but I guess that general tips from similar boards (Banana PI etc.) are still very welcome. I read these posts, and tried what has been suggested here, but with no success I2C control in u-boot: Orange Pi Zero enable i2c at u-boot for NanoPi Neo2 u-boot with I2C This is what I've done so far: I've modified the u-boot device tree to enable the I2C bus (I did the same with the kernel device-tree, and here it does work!!) Hello, I've been playing on my Raspberry Pi 3B+ with an I2S audio amplifier and could play music from it. Now I want to add more devices to experiment with multi-room systems. The only other system with I2S support I have here is a NanoPi NEO. It has dedicated I2S pins so that shouldn't be too complicated. I thought. But it doesn't work. 'aplay -l' says "no soundcards found" and 'speaker-test -c2' essentially says the same. 'armbian-config' doesn't have a switch to enable I2S, only SPDIF, which sounds plausible considering that the SPDIF pin is multipurpose while the I2S pins are not. 28. Hello! This thread here: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/3728-varlog-varloghdd/ triggered the question in me how I could extend the log2ram. My problem is the following: I have installed syncthing. The default in armbian runs it as root - which is not recommended for syncthing, see here: https://forum.syncthing.net/t/running-syncthing-as-root/6316! So I downgraded the syncthing daemon to a standard user account "syncthing". In order to enable a non-root user to write logfiles it's common practice to create a subdir /var/log/syncthing/ and give it write rights for syncthing. This works, however my logfiles stay completely empty! Never…

  29. Hi, I hope this is the right place to post this question. 31. I installed the Armbian desktop environment via armbian-config. Then I disabled it, and I saw that many of the packages were uninstalled by my next "apt upgrade". I want to install them again, but armbian-config only lets me "enable" or "disable" the Desktop now. It won't install anything anymore. So my question is how do I redo what armbian-config did during the first time, to reinstall all Armbian desktop files?

  33. Hi there, I have too many SBCs running Armbian with very recent kernels (even two Raspberry Pi 3B), and I love the consistency of my herd. I will change job next month, and I will at last be able to have a Linux machine as my daily driver... The thing is, I will need Windows too for video editing so that I need to keep it available when needed. So I salvaged all the files from it and backups, and restored the whole file structure onto a new SD card, with an ext4 MBR primary partition. Now, my concern is, how can I make this bootable? I can boot the HC2 off a throwaway newly installed Armbian, and access the target SD card through a USB card reader. I could google that armbian-config is used to install the bootloader, but apparently it can only do that to the card which has been used to boot the device in the first place. Any suggestions? thanks

  58. Hello! I`m very new on how SBC`s work, and wanna know if there`s some way to fix this situation: My audio is not actually being reproduced via the HDMI connection between my TV and my Orange Pi [Orange Pi 4 LTS]. I took a brief look at the solutions/instructions on the documentation page ((https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Fine-Tuning/#sound-output)), such as: # Check the available sound output options: pacmd list-sinks | less # The default will be marked with "*" # Press "q" to close # Define the new default sound output pacmd set-default-sink <NAME-OF-DESIRED-OPTION> but i only got this, and as far as i could test…

  60. Hi there, how to manually disable kernel updates? Orange Pi 5, Armbian 24.11.1, kernel 6.1.75-vendor-rk35xx. mPCIe working ok with NVMe 512GB module. There is NO option to disable kernel updates in armbian-config -> system there's only option to ENABLE firmware updates. And login screen shows kernel updates ENABLED. I don't want to loose NVMe support on upgrade. Laurent

  61. I have a 5" 800x480 TFP401 display which the current armbian can't drive, and I have no idea how to fix that. My EDID is identical to his. I'm a total armbian noob and half linux noob and have no idea where to start or what all the used terms mean (u-boot, dpms, ...) or they come with random patches or links to github changesets that I have no idea what to begin with. All I know is how to compile Igor's kernel, change existing patches in his repo, and burn it (as image, not u-boot) to an SD card, all because there is a nice tutorial for it. When people start talking about anything else I have no idea what to do with that information. I tried to mod…

Hello community, when I SSH into my ODROID-HC2 I get the nice coloured MOTD which I really like. Question 1) I found the configuration file /etc/default/armbian-motd and the directory /etc/update-motd.d and after reading the bash code I lack in understanding why some information lines are suppressed in the MOTD banner when the scripts get executed. For example: I would expect to see some net traffic stats because /etc/default/armbian-motd uses the default setting PRIMARY_DIRECTION="rx" and the package "vnstat" is installed and "vnstat -i eth0" return correct output. I also tried changing PRIMARY_DIRECTION line to ="both" but I don't get any…

Hi All, I'm planning to use an RK3399-based system-on-module for an embedded application, and would like some advice about the work required to produce an Armbian build that runs on it. The SoM is made by Graperain ( https://www.graperain.com/ARM-Embedded-RK3399-System-On-Module-Gf/ ), and they have provided an SDK which is clearly an old copy of the Rockchip's github repo (4.4 kernel) with some unidentified tweaks to get it working on this board (including .dts files and presumably some bootloader stuff?). I realize this particular board is likely not of interest to the community, but I figure the general discussion around getting a new board running may be. …

  69. Hello. I have been struggling with creating a local build environment that will be guaranteed to work today, next month, next year etc. My hardware is Radxa-Zero and I want to run kernel 6.1.23. Currently I find that the build environment, in various ways, breaks the build over time. I've been chasing a stable build for kernels 6.1.23, 57, 58, 59. The build environment, by default, grabs the latest 6.1.y kernel, which is no good for me. My root FS and DTB are for 6.1.23 and I don't want to keep updating everything just because I need to make some kernel configuration changes. 72. I've just installed armbian to Pinebook Pro's eMCC using the full-disk encryption helper script from https://github.com/mmgen/mmgen-geek-tools The said script was executed inside an armbian installation in an sd card with official Pinebook Pro image. The eMCC installation almost worked - it boots to graphical desktop, however there's no wifi and bluetooth. I don't have any other way to connect the laptop to internet. I guess the way to fix this is to boot the sd card again because it has internet, then open the encrypted disk manually and chroot to its root, then run some command - but I don't know which one! Please help.

  74. Long story short, I accidentally removed all the contents of the /boot folder 😢. I'm running minimal Armbian 24.5.1 Bookworm with Linux 6.1.43-vendor-rk35xx on Orange pi 5 plus. It all started with a failed apt update indicating there wasn't enough space in the boot partition. The update was trying to install 6.1.75-vendor-rk35xx kernel, so I decided to remove the old one from the boot to free up some space. Instead, I accidentally applied 'rm -r' to the entire /boot folder. My SBC is working fine now, but I'm afraid it won't boot on next restart, so I'm looking for a way to recover the files. So far, I performed apt upgrade, which put the new…

So didn't see anything specifically in the docs but can I ONLY run (from compile script) the custom image script on an already already built image (in /output/images)? Along the same lines can I chroot at any time to the image via the compile script? I should mention that I am using the docker container build for arm on my amd machine.
