My main desktop workstation is, in actuality, a server motherboard (KGPE-D16). I have a need to turn it on remotely from time to time. Apparently it is not capable of Wake on LAN, as that is a feature reserved for some add on server management card (which I don't have and am not going to purchase, as it requires some proprietary software). So I realized I could simply hook up some relay to a microcontroller to pull the power switch low for 200 ms or whatever. Well then I thought, I have a Cubietruck and an ODROID-XU4 (and a ROCKPro64 for that matter) right in the case which should have GPIO available and are already connected to Ethernet, why not use those instead... …

We need you to help us improve THS settings. In case you have a Banana Pi M2+, OPi One, Lite or NanoPi M1 without heatsink and are that experienced to build Armbian images on your own (requires an x86-64 PC/VM running Ubuntu 14.04 or 16.04) or install a new kernel using .debs as outlined below and also want to help developing better settings (less temperatures, more performance in throttling situations) then please read through this whole Github issue here: https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib/issues/298 If you're not already too discouraged by this stuff then we ask you to build/install a new legacy kernel for Orange Pi H3 or Banana Pi M2+ and ensure /boot/script.bin …

I've been having a recent issue over the last couple months where my ArmbianEvn.txt file is being overwritten thus causing Helios to hang in the boot process. Using some samples i've found on these forums, I was able to re-create my file and get the Helios back up and running and have since stored a copy so that when it happens, I can just copy and paste and back up running in no time. To date, i've had this happen to me 4 times. I'm not worried about having go through this at this point in time, but I was curious if anyone else has seen this issue or not? I've saved a couple samples of what was written into the ArmbianEnv.txt file: /var/log/armbian-ha…

Hello I have burned bookworm onto a sd card, booted on it with a Rock 5B+ and installed the bootloader on the SPI flash of the board and transferred the OS to the nvme drive. Now I I'm trying to install the new trixie image, but I can't burn it on my nvme drive. With USBImage it does not work. It doesn't detect my nvme drive installed on my USB adapter. With belena Etcher it throws an error during the validation of the image. Win32Imager doesn't load at all on Windows 11. I don't know which other tool (Windows) I could use. I'm stuck. How can I boot again from my SD card on a Rock 5b+?

Hi, There is a lot of cheap 10.1 inches lcd on market, often have a resolution of 1280 x 800. I connected this lcd with h3disp using the mode of 1280 x 720 (720i). Everything works, but aspect ratio is wrong. (800->720) Is there a fast and simply possibility to set 1280x800 resolution in Armbian?

Hi, In order to secure my BPi-R1 I want to install a firewall on top of armbian. So please, no tipps for complete 'firewall distribution like IPcop, IPfire'. So I thought about, what is necessary to protect 'my cloud', which may be not the first interest for a hacker. My test candidates: Open Edgewize Shorewall ConfigServer Security & Firewall (csf) iptables (do it on your own) I collected some information of their functions, but I don't know what is crucial. Application Layer Filtering Just managing your network by port numbers and ip addresses is no longer sufficient. With the growing levels of web use, and http based applications, deep packet inspecti…

When I run a checksum on both "...desktop.img.xz and .....desktop.img", the "...desktop.img.xz" matches the posted .sha doc's checksum. But when I run the "...desktop.img" checksum, it does NOT match the posted .sha doc checksum. I've always checked just the .img or .iso image against the posted checksum, never previously against the '..desktop.img.xz' image. Thx.

Hello, It's been more than two days working to solution. I have gone deep into the documentation and forum posts before asking this. Much of the information in this subforum is c 2017, and relates to /etc/init.d locations which are now obsolete, etc. Definitive assistance is much appreciated! I'm building clean Armbian-based images, for a number of unsupported desktop configurations on unsupported boards. These have been fantastically functional, I I'd like to make these available as community-supported releases. I do not expect such a hybrid configuration, despite using an Armbian kernel package, and an Armbian Focal base filesystem image, to ever be suppor…

I tried to build an bridged AP so that I can reach the Internet from a WiFi net spawned from the BananaPiPro. By this I followed the procedure from armbian-config (config.network.sh). After install the AP is shown in the login screen: WiFi AP: SSID: (BPi), channel 7 (2442 MHz), width: 20 MHz, center1: 2442 MHz When I try to connect from my mobile phone it either says "connecting without Internet". I am getting a series of errors related to EXT4 zram checksum that look like this one: [3328.749555] EXT4-fs error (device zram0): ext4_readdir:189: inode #11 com find: path var/log/lost+found directory fails checksum at offset 4096 (and other offsets) I've seen a recommendation as a possible fix to the checksum error : disabling metadata_csum, using "tune2fs -O ^metadata_csum /dev/zram0", with the file system umounted (I don't know how to unmount zram) The error apparently is related to bad hardware (not the case) , old kernels that don't support new versions of programs capable of altering the fs. Hi, I'm using armbian on a FriendlyElec Zero Pi device as my wireguard server. This is a extremely cheap device and for this reason it was chosen since I don't need powerful performances. It happened that I found a tutorial that switching the Congestion Control for BBR (mine says it is cubic), would allow me to experience performance improvements. I'm not being able to change this parameter in my image already configured using: root@zeropi:~# sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control=bbr The output says: sysctl: setting key "net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control": No such file or directory net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control = bbr U…

Hello, I have enabled overlayroot using "armbian-config" command line tool (in my orangepi PC). My current OS is Armbian Focal xfce desktop After rebooting, I noticed that the entire filesystem stills writable. I checked the content of ( /etc/overlayroot.conf) using; cat /etc/overlayroot.conf this command show at the end of the file these two lines: (after commented content): overlayroot_cfgdisk="disabled" overlayroot="tmpfs" If I well understood, normally, with such a configuration, the filesystem should be set to read only., but in practice, it is not. Could you assist me how to resolve this problem?

Hello everyone! I tried to enable cedrus264 encoder/decoder on my old OrangePI Lite 2 (revision 1 if I am right). I used stulluk's repository as the base to patch the last FFMpeg revision and to add cedrus264 encoder using the new FFMpeg API. The result is built and tested. Unfortunately, I have had no success: the encoder says: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -input_format mjpeg -video_size 1280x720 -i /dev/video1 -c:v cedrus264 -pix_fmt nv12 -f mp4 video.mp4 ffmpeg version N-103904-gb2538ce578 Copyright (c) 2000-2021 the FFmpeg developers built with clang version 12.0.1 (https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project.git fed41342a82f5a3a9201819a82bf7a48313e296…

We provided this week experimental Armbian images with mainline kernel for a few H3 boards. On the official download pages there are a few variants with 4.6.7 lurking around and here you find some with 4.7.2: http://kaiser-edv.de/tmp/w8JAAY/ Those for the NEO are also suitable for NanoPi M1 and OPi One/Lite, the one for OPi PC Plus can be used on any of the larger Oranges (no Ethernet on +/+2/+2E -- don't ask please, this is stuff for later) since they all use the same more sophisticated voltage regulator being able to adjust VDD_CPUX in 20mW steps (VDD_CPUX is the voltage the CPU cores are fed with). The procedure is called dynamic voltage frequency scaling and the id…

Hello everyone! I'm trying to use a small SPI LED screen with my ROC-RK3328-CC. I'm currently using this image: Armbian_19.11.7_Renegade_buster_current_5.4.8.img I've added the following 2 lines to /boot/armbienEnv.txt overlays=spi-spidev param_spidev_spi_bus=0 and after reboot, nothing. nothing for dmesg|grep spi and no spidev devices in /dev I've also tried manually changing status to "okay" for fragment@1 a…

Hi, I just updated my armbian current to 5.10.35 and I'm quite excited, as pwm and gpio works as with LE :) Then I tried to mount some nfs-shares from nas. Usually I only have to install nfs-common. I did that on armbian, but when I try to mount a share, I get the error message, that nfs protocol (version) is not supported. The used command work on every other system I have (desktop and rockpi). I just use 'nfs' as filesystem type - no version specified/requested. Is there something special on armbian, to have nfs support enabled?

Very often when i do apt update or apt dist-upgrade some of the armbian mirrors acts up and pretty much denies connections (it isnt the generic debian mirrors as other distros are working fine). I assume they are just overloaded and theres not much to do about that. But it has caused one of my system to be out of date for a few weeks I assume because the unattended upgrade script doesnt retry. How do I get this to work? for example some times i have to retry up to 10 times before I can get apt to work (when I try manually). The apt configuration in etc is a bit of magic to me so Id appreciate if someone can guide me to get unattended upgrades to retry connecti…

Etcher understands zip, gzip, bzip2, and I don't know what all else. But it has no idea what a 7z file is. So I have link in proximity for two of the three binaries I need to get, and the third buried in grey on black text at the bottom of the page where nobody will see it and instead they will feel compelled to go out to find it on their own. Are 7z files really enough smaller than bz2 that it's worth this?

This is for those experiencing a similar issue on the Rock Pi 4B (possibly RK3399 in general) who don't have a fix yet. On Armbian Focal current for the Rock Pi 4B the sound from both HDMI and the audio jack stopped working and became undetectable to the system (Both Pulse-audio and ALSA couldn't detect anything except hdmi-sound and even then HDMI sound did not work). I fixed the issue by rolling back to the latest "current" kernel version in armbian-config (5.10.63-rockchip64). Now the system sound has gone back to normal.

We have an H2+ based board that is very similar to the Orange Pi Zero. Basically it is equivalent to a Zero board with a different Wi-Fi chip and adding an eMMC chip. The SD card is on the SDC0 bus and the eMMC chip is on the SDC2 bus. The SDC1 bus isn't connected. We have been using the stock Orange Pi Zero Jessie images on SD card and they work pretty well (thanks to you guys for your hard work) We want to put a Jessie image on the eMMC but we are having trouble. First we tried the nand-sata-install script but it wouldn't run without the eMMC device. We edited the lib/config/fex/orangepizero.fex file and changed sdc_used for mmc2 to …

We had a power outage the other day and though I have UPS coverage on all my computers, TV's, switches, router and Arm boards I forgot to shut down the ARM boards gracefully before shutting off the UPS that protects them. Later, all my PI's booted back up just fine but my Le Potato is not responding. I verified that the SD card still shows a Linux system but am not sure what all to look at to repair boot problems. I tested the Le Potato with another fresh Armbian install and it booted up just fine so the hardware is not an issue. I am lamenting not having made a backup of the card before this happened but was still tweaking stuff and didn't think about it (next time I…

Hi, I'm trying to setup the wifi with the image: Armbian 24.8.1 Bookworm Minimal / IOT But there is no wlan0 on the ip a command. Can you please give me a hint on how to setup the wifi with the bananapi M4 zero? I have also tried the server image debian12 but found the same issue. FYI I tried an image from the BPI M4 zero website: 20240819-Bananapi-Armbian_24.8.0-trunk_Bpi-m4zero_Debian12 And there is wlan0 so I successfully configured the wifi ( but there is no bananapi-config to copy the image to the emmc but that's another story... ) Thanks in advance!

I’m trying to use a 3.5 LCD (waveshare clone) with ILI9486 + XPT2046 with my orange pi zero. My display is like this. I installed both Debian_buster_next_4.19.59 and Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.57 and I followed many guides in here with no success. I edited armbianEnv.txt and added these: overlays=spi-spidev spi-add-cs1 param_spidev_spi_bus=1 param_spidev_spi_cs=1 After that I ran this sudo modprobe fbtft_device custom name=fb_ili9486 gpios=dc:18,reset:2 speed=16000000 busnum=1 rotate=90 and didn’t get any error. I figured that the reset & DC pins on orange pi zero are pin22(GPIO2) and pin18(GPIO18) but I’m not 100% sure about these.…

Since I was looking up which boards would make a proper NAS and home automation hub, I figured I might as well summarize the options in a post. Requirements for a proper NAS: Gigabit Ethernet SATA that is not a crappy USB->SATA chip Armbian-supported That last one is because otherwise the options are much more numerous and scattered, and the previous requirements become vague (e.g., you could even just take out a netbook's motherboard and run it standalone). Also, you could use an A80 board (USB 3.0) but I believe none are supported by Armbian, same goes for R40 (has SATA), so this leaves us with these A20 boards that also have GbE: _______________________…

Hello to all, I've followed this thread to compile the new u-boot and kernel: The only difference during the instructions was that I've had to enable the 'EXPERT="yes"' mode to access BananaPiPro. After patching and compiling, the result was: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 176360 Jun 3 04:42 linux-dtb-next-sunxi_5.88_armhf.deb -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 10597964 Jun 3 04:42 linux-headers-next-sunxi_5.88_armhf.deb -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 20541784 Jun 3 04:42 linux-image-next-sunxi_5.88_armhf.deb -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 396289200 Jun 3 04:43 linux-source-next-sunxi_5.88_all.deb -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 247868 Jun 3 04:43 linux-u-boot-next-bananapipro_5.88_a…

Good morning everyone. I'm unable to connect to a nanopi M1 through ssh, I'm using windows power shell and the network is made with a TP-Link router MR3220, I've looked several guides around there but always is saying "connection reset". I've also checked the IP address wich is allways the same because I used the address reservation feature of the router (of course, there is a fixed MAC address on eth0), when I apply the command ssh -p 22 root@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on the uxterm of armbian it shows the shown in the attached image "resulado de usar ssh" and like I said, the answer of power shell is connection reset on port 22 for that server. the ssh_co…

Dear All, I just want to share my workflow of successfully installing Box86-Box64, Wine32-Wine64 and Winetricks on Arm64 Big thanks to @NicoD for sharing his source code of Armbian-Gaming. I modified some of his code to be used in Armbian Focal (or any Arm64 distro) and fix the armhf dependencies issue by using the "arm-linux-gnueabihf" Library from TwisterOS. I also used some of Box86 Manual. So many thanks to all of them. Ok Let's Start: 1. Add armhf multiarch sudo dpkg --add-architecture armhf sudo apt-get update 2. Install dependencies for box86 & box64 sudo apt-get install git cmake cabextract gcc-arm-linux-gnueabihf lib…

Hello all, I have a Novasom M7 Plus board with a Rockchip RK3328 that initially had an SD card with Armbian. I made the necessary hardware connections to connect to a screen via HDMI and then I followed all the necessary steps to perform the BOOT through the eMMc memory but after transferring the rootfs it will not start via EMMC, only with the SD card it is possible to start the system. I have tried a lot of solutions that I am finding in the forums but I still haven't been able to solve the problem. The goal is to start Armbian without having the SD card inserted.

Hello everyone, Over the past year or so, I've been getting back to my utilite pro board that bought quite a while back. After asking a few things to Compulab, and figuring out some of the bad download links to get their latest resources, I could finally upgrade to their latest Ubuntu build, that was based on 12.04. So not so recent. I am not the most aware user when it comes to arm devices, but a page on the Debian wiki pointed out to running buster on the board. Then, I came across the armbian ecosystem, and thought, well, I'll give it a try. Kudos to the work done. This looks impressive. The past days I've been trying to co…

Glad to say creating virtual machine and getting Armbian build environment and running ./compile.sh was easy and successful for bananapim1plus / 6.1 kernel / jammy. Created SD card and booted and is running fine. Added DT overlay to enable spidev and got /dev/spidev0.0 as expected. Got new version of cross compiler to build code I formerly ran on fedora image and the SPI driver behaves differently. It pulses CS low for every transfer instead of optionally staying low for multiple transfers based on "cs_change" field in each transfer message. Found kernel source in build/cache/sources/linux-kernel-worktree/6.1__sunxi__armhf/drivers/spi, and tried editing there to begi…

I wonder if any work is being done in that direction. Every browser i tried has some sort of issues, that makes it less than usable on H3 devices. -epiphany/midori: both work decently, but lock up after some time with 25% cpu usage (could be a webkit1 issue ?) -chromium: slow and apparently absent from repos -firefox: works ok, but quite slow -net surf: very fast and stable, but not up to date for web standards (probably what makes it fast in the first place) Am i missing any browsers here ? I propose we optimize one of those, that would work best on out allwinner devices in a similar fashion of what raspberry team did with epiphany. I'm sure lots of folks…

Hello, I am talking strictly about GPIO's value and mode at reset. Under "sudo gpio readall" of H3 core (OPI Lite) I can see that ALL GPIO pins are 0V with different alternative mode functions. Under H3 core (OPI Lite) datasheet 1.2 says that value PC3 and PC4 GPIOs are pulled up? This are in contradiction! Did anyone measured the H3 core GPIOs value? Does H3 core has any pin of pulled-up mode during the reset time of the controller? Please help.

Hi all, is anyone running Debian Jessie on a Bananapi? I'd like to upgrade from debian wheezy to Jessie, but I am afraid of a performance degrade due to the fact that ramlog is not available for Jessie. So, back again. I keep seeing the ethernet connection dropped. When logging in by USB the login reports IP <blank> (see picture). I saw this previously (see full set of traumas here https://organicmonkeymotion.wordpress.com/category/orange-pi/). Happens now on freshly burnt image using Etcher. Ran for two days. The problem also manifested using an image burnt with WIN32DiskImager so we can discount any FS corruption assumptions - the Etcher burn reported no errors. I just installed armbian buster on my NAS (odroid HC2). Everything works perfectly. However, as debian bullseye has become stable and I expect this to happen for armbian also in the near future, I am thinking about how to do the upgrade. In addition, I will have to do the update anyways at some point in time and therefor I want do it when armbian bullseye becomes stable. Reading through the forum I found out it is not supported. Hi there, Since being only a novice in linux, there are some things that are difficult to understand. Like - which configs to update or keep old versions when doing the upgrade. Last time I said N (keep original version) to everything. Really the only things I care about are vnc configs and samba setup. I basically use it as a network drive for backups. Only necessary software is x11vnc and samba. Else I log into it just for updates/restarts. I have tried upgrading my armbian several times. Unfortunately it does not work and I have to restore my sd card backup and start over. I update it making sure all apt updates are done, and then fr…

I'm currently designing a PCB which will use a nanopi duo board. Unfortunately it is not in stock at the moment so I can't order one yet to verify some measurements. So I know how high it will sit on the PCB - total height of the pins + PCB - is there anything on the bottom PCB which is higher than the plastic on the pin headers? Hi! Using mainline on custom A20 board with sch very close to lime2, with 2 differences: (- EMAC of lime instead of GMAC of lime2) - AP6210 wifi/bt module on MMC3 with same schematic as cubietruck. Only difference in AP6210 schematic is that : - we use PE1 for WIFI_Enable instead of PH9. - PE0 for wifi_host_wake instead of PH10. BT works OK. Wifi doesn't work. To test the wifi part, we used cubietruck DTS, only patching the parts about PH9 and PH10. BRCMFMAC load without any messages and iwconfig / ifcongif say there is no wireless card. Also tried to find a solution in the forum but the files and config involved in previous solutions is no longer valid in the newer builds (/usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/60-lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf or /etc/default/nodm). I don't have a fiber/fast internet connection, and I get around 200kb/s download speed when I use normal apt or apt-get. But apt-fast accelerates download speeds significantly. I go up to 1MB/s using it (I set max connections option to 16 while installing it, you'll know what I mean when you try to install it using apt-add-repository, of course, if you don't know). So I suggest you to use apt-fast in "armbian-config" or any system utility. This suggestion goes to the developers. So that we (users with no good internet connection) can update the system or install the desktop environment a lot faster and easier.

Hello. Sorry for my English, I use google-translate. I found relatively little information concerning AXP209 support on mainline. My targets : - set the battery as 4.35V instead of 4.2V. Datasheet say it's set in REG 33H. Defaut value for register : 0xCX, X being the charge current. if 1200mAh then default value is 0xC9. To change from 4.2 to 4.35V, use EXh (so E9h if you'r using 1200mA) 11001001 to 11101001.) - Remove boot when AC plugged in and boot only when PEK is pressed. Datasheet say it's possible is not clear about how to do it. It may be reg40 bit6. I could not test yet as REG40 strangely reads 0x00 with i2cget. - Set GPIO0 and GPIO1 as ADC. GPIO0 function is REG 90H (see page 40 datasheet). GPIO1…

Hi, my base problem is syncthing not starting on boot. But in trying to solve that it would be useful to uninstall and reinstall syncthing via armbian-config and hence softy. But armbian-config/softy does not let me uninstall syncthing (or for that matter samba, which I also don't want or need on that machine). Nor does apt: sudo apt-get remove --purge samba reports "Package 'samba' is not installed, so not removed", though armbian-config/softy shows it as installed. Is there a way to uninstall packages installed via armbian-config/softy? Thanks Graham

I wonder what the best desktop replacement might be. I'm in need for a stable and secure desktop replacement that is energy saving and capable of dooing office work, browsing the web and even playback videos from youtube and prime video. 4K isn't necessary but I want at least 720p or 1080 fullscreen. If possible: No internal spi / eeprom / flash memory. I want the firmware to be loaded from a USB Storage / SD Card that gets hardware write protected after the first setup. Like a live distro from dvd so that there is no risk of getting infected by rootkit / bad firmware ever. Most current gen SoC offer built in flash memory. Older ones like Rock64, Pi3 and …

Hi all. After installation of transmission-daemon I got two issues. First one is "UDP Failed to set receive/send buffer". I did fix it by adding next two lines to /etc/sysctl.conf net.core.rmem_max = 16777216 net.core.wmem_max = 4194304 Second one is that RPC does not start on boot but only after manual restart of service after boot. I believe it's caused because transmission starts before network goes online. I tried to fix it by adding into /lib/systemd/system/transmission-daemon.service [unit] ... Wants=network-online.target After=network-online.target But it does not help. I did fix it by adding next two lines to /etc/rc.l…

Dear community, dear @Igor (as maintainer of NEO3 CSC), thanks a lot for the NEO3 support. This board ran rock solid for me approx. two years straight – much more stable than my other SBCs running Armbian (due to various reasons, no offense :)). However, the board failed to boot with "ERROR: Did not find a cmdline Flattened Device Tree". It appears that ``rk3328-nanopi-neo3-rev02.dtb`` went missing. This must have happened when upgrading the package ``linux-dtb-current-rockchip64`` from 21.08.2 to 22.02.1. As a workaround, it helps to (download the CSC image for the board again, get the file out of the image,) place the file in ``/boo…

hey, after updating my nanopct4 and rockpi-4b to from 20.05 to 20.08 RDP stopped working for me, only black screen. After reading all the messy logs, fresh install etc, I found a simple working solution online: In /etc/xrdp/startwm.sh change #!/bin/sh to #!/bin/bash Sources: https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp/issues/1630 https://askubuntu.com/questions/1166568/remote-desktop-blue-screen-after-login Maybe others are affected too, don't know about Ubuntu.

I'm struggling to use the armbian-config tool to setup a hotspot when I have two radios. Can someone share with me the intended workflow/step using armbian-config? I get asked twice for Default interface and the 2nd dialog is throwing me off. My board and radios work fine, but my network is suffering from insufficient user IQ. :-(

I just released Armbian Focal Desktop MAINLINE images for Khadas VIM3 Pro. These are individually, pure arm64 and hybrid arm64/armhf variations. Thanks go to @lanefu for key pointers in understanding how to "re-arm" the firstboot and firstboot-config mechanism in current-state Armbian. Please offer feedback and experiences if you test these. The images are currently hand-built, but if enough interest is generated, and time permitting, I will commit to a git fork for an unsupported standard building process. I have more detail on the distribution site at archive.org, and in the corresponding posts to the Khadas forums: …

Getting into buildroot and yocto seems a bit too much for me to get an A+B style update possibility. I would like to stick with the quality images provided by Armbian. The following applies to a NanoPi-NEO3 others SBC might have different partition layouts. From what I understood is that uboot looks for /boot in /dev/mmcblk0p1 reads the boot.cmd/scr and armbianEnv.txt and then boots the kernel accordingly. The armbianEnv.txt seems to point the kernel to the root partition using the rootdev directive. If /dev/mmcblk0p1 would now only hold /boot would it be possible to point to a different partition for the rootfs using armbianEnv.txt? …

Hello Igor, your Image resizes itself upon boot to full SD card size. Is it possible to reenable this process again? I know I simply could resize with GParted or similar tools. But I'd rather reuse it the way your image did on first boot. Thank you.
