[Thanks Igor et al. for all the hard work] For those who prefer LXDE, here are the steps to transform the Jessie server to LXDE desktop: ## Update distro sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y ## Install LXDE Desktop sudo apt-get install -y xorg lxde lightdm policykit-1 sudo sed -i.bak -e 's/^NotShowIn=GNOME;KDE;$/NotShowIn=LXDE;GNOME;KDE;/' /etc/xdg/autostart/lxpolkit.desktop ## Add Armbian wallpaper umask 022 sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/wallpapers (cd /usr/local/wallpapers; sudo wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/igorpecovnik/lib/master/bin/armbian01.jpg) sudo sed -i.bak -e 's/^wallpaper=.*$/wallpaper=\/usr\/local\/wallpapers\/armbian01.jpg/' /etc/xdg…

Hi there, i hope you can help me as i saw there are a few Wireguard Users here as well. I did setup Armbian 20.05.4 Buster on my Cubietruck and configured Wireguard. After a few mistakes the connection from outside (iOS Client) is stable but very slow. I went to the obvious roads and found the MTU setting on the client side could be an issue as well some PostUp command parameters can improve performance. But for any reason my wireguard doesn´t want to accept anything with PostUp, Safeconfig etc in my wg0.conf file: Parsing error. But without that been solved i assume i can´t work on the Performance improvement. Here a few lines of code showing the relevant confi…

I read a lot of U Boot documentation the last hours but I still fail at fundamental understanding, like: - where can variables be set? boot.scr obviously, but there is also uEnv.txt boot.cmd armbianEnv.txt ... and in which order and precendence are they parsed? (If I set a variable in different files, which value will be used? first? last? ...) - how is a change made persistent (saveenv does not work) - Can sub-variables be changed, e.g. root in bootargs what I am trying to achieve atm is to change the boot partion rootdev from p1 to p2. Even thou I think I patched the relevant files, printenv shows that bootargs and rootdev are still set to…

I am trying to figure out how to create a dtoverlay to allow my waveshare 2.8a fbtft screen to work. I understand that i the 5.x.y kernels, a dtoverlay is required. I'm starting with the waveshare32b.dts for raspberry pi, found here: https://github.com/swkim01/waveshare-dtoverlays Should be compatible with the 2.8a per waveshare wiki. I'm trying to modify it in sort of the same way as was done in this thread, for another display: The board I'm using for this is an orangepi pc2. But i don't' actually know what I'm doing. What I've come up with so far is this: /* * Device Tree overl…

Hi, I have few boards that were once connected to wifi manually, but now are headless. I would like now to upgrade Armbian and put wifi connection during sd card flash. Tried the classic way: /etc/network/interfaces When the board boots it connects to the wifi, I see few pings and then it goes offline After taking one of the boards for troubleshooting using serial console I found that NeworkManager starts right after the network is up and screws everything: Executing sudo ifdown wlan0 && sudo ifup -v wlan0 restores the connection My question is: what is the correct way t…

I just (several days ago) installed Armbian 22.05 OdroidN2 Jammy XFCE. It uses kernel 5.10. Then I noticed there is an alternative version 22.05 jammy XFCE with kernel 5.17. Is it possible to update to the later kernel from the image I used without re-imaging and starting from scratch? I have already installed and setup a lot of other applications and data. I can see i have packages linux-image-current-meson64/jammy (linux-dtb... & linux-headers...) installed. On apt.armbian.com I found: (https://stpete-mirror.armbian.com/apt/pool/main/l/linux-5.17.5-meson64/) in the linux-5.17.5-meson64 Name Last modified P…

Setup: I have a small home network with several SBCs, PCs, NASs and two devices are running Armbian ARMBIAN 5.59, ARMBIAN 5.59 stable Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS 4.14.65-sunxi for the Orange Pi Zero and ARMBIAN 5.59 testing Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS 4.14.65-sunxi for the Cubieboard 1. The OPi Zero runs the PiHole application for the whole network. There's a MikroTik router which does DHCP for the network. Problem: The Armbian devices are not able to do a local name resolution, a `ping router.lan` or `ping orangepizero.lan` or `ping cubieboard.lan` from either device gives the error: "Name or service not known". A ping by IP is without issues, same pro…

EDIT: All of the below written stuff is outdated and not recommended to run on any Armbian installation anyway. Simply use Armbian with default settings and you're done. In case you want to adjust settings, search the forum for 'h3consumption' utility. EDIT: Please be aware that it seems voltage switching on the various Orange Pi One boards seems to have some tolerances. A user reported his Orange Pi One crashes randomly when staying on the lower voltage with the new fex settings so unless it's confirmed which voltages are really used or how to measure the real voltage the proposed fix here might lead to undervoltage/stability issues on some boards. …

There are updates in the most recent mainline kernel about the Odroid C0/C1/C1+ board: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/log/?h=v4.20&qt=grep&q=odroid The armbian image with the mainline kernel have not been updated. Could you please update it? I would like to use it. You can officially drop the outdated version with the kernel 3.10. The Kernel 3.10 is not supported any more and have ton of security issues that wont get fixed. Only the mainline kernel is interesting and worth upgrading to latest kernel. Thanks

Hello. Sorry for my English, I use google-translate. Maybe someone already has experience and uses script / program to create a backup SD card entirely in the form of an image on an external storage (HDD, USB-flash), or over the network? I am at the moment once a week turn off the system (I have a banana pi), remove the SD card and make a copy of the system image (using imagewriter.exe). I want to automate the process, and without removing the SD card from the board. It's real? Many thanks!

Hello, I'm trying to install Armbian on my OrangePiZero but i have networks issues. After 3/4 hours of tests and search i found on a forum that the problem came from the kernel version. And the person said it works with: "Armbian_5.30_Orangepizero_Debian_jessie" Where can i download this rom please ? The problem: When i start my OrangePiZero i don't have ip (i use USB/TTL to access to command line). I tried to set static ip, dhcp, i tried to remove networkmanager, to use dhcpcd instead of dhclient, etc... I also tried wifi, but same... Thanks !

I have problem, I am not able to get console working to access my nanopi neo air. PSU is not issue, opi+2 runs with same power w/o issues. Sdcard is not problem either. Tested with more than one image and based on how onboard leds behaves, i believe that system boots up ok. Now the question: How to modify image on sdcard so that it connects to my WIFi (WPA2-PSK) on boot automatically making ssh to nano working? Or should I mount image, before writing to sdcard, and do the needed changes inside mounted image? What and how? Thanks!

I've spent a day going crazy trying to sort this and am failing. I want to share an NTFS USB hard drive via samba to a windows machine. At the moment I have shared the home directory which works fine but whenever I try to access the NTFS USB drive I get a permission error from the Windows machine. As far as I can glean it's to do with mounting permissions on the NTFS drive but how do I sort this when armbian automounts the drive?

I'm currently running Armbian Ubuntu Xenial Server on a Cubietruck, it works very well, thanks for all the effort! I recently bought a Raspberry Pi 3, installed some of the available images and found them kind of disappointing. The RPI2 and RPI3 both support ARMv7, which should make it reasonably easy to run Armbian Ubuntu images on it. Any chance of getting RPI2/3 support in the future? I would be willing to test work. Thanks!

Hello. I've received a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter from the Pine64 store. The problem is than the adapter is not fully SAT compliant, so hdparm doesn't work with it. It is described better in this post. And there's an updated firmware for the JMS578 chip which fixes this issue. However, it was made for another device (Odroid HC1), not the device I have. Is it safe to use this firmware in my adapter? Or maybe there's even more fresh firmware exists for JMS578 chips?

We had a power outage the other day and though I have UPS coverage on all my computers, TV's, switches, router and Arm boards I forgot to shut down the ARM boards gracefully before shutting off the UPS that protects them. I tested the Le Potato with another fresh Armbian install and it booted up just fine so the hardware is not an issue. I am lamenting not having made a backup of the card before this happened but was still tweaking stuff and didn't think about it (next time I…

It doesn't differ (much). Major difference is that when you start with a Debian / Ubuntu you start with a DI (Debian Installer) and install Debian to some drive. That process is identical on all x86 Ubuntu based Linuxes. Only background / colours, configurations, perhaps an application / GRUB versions is changed ... We only provide "LIVE" image because of different hardware design / scenarios. Its more suitable this way. Once you login into Armbian, all tutorials and install cases will work the same way as they work on particular Debian / Ubuntu version https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials with rare exceptions when application does not come with arm/arm64 b…

Hi, I'm trying to enable the I2C at the U-BOOT stage, but so for with no success. Hi All The "real time" kernel patches are included in Igor's Armbian build tools, but are disabled by default. Enabling them are simple. (Thanks Igor) Build "real time" kernel images by doing the following: refer to https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib Execution apt-get -y install git git clone https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib--depth 1 cp lib/compile.sh . mv ./lib/patch/kernel/sun7i-default/0014-patch-3.4.108-rt136.patch.disabled ./lib/patch/kernel/sun7i-default/0014-patch-3.4.108-rt136.patch ./compile.sh Press "Enter" to continue Confirm you are running a RT kernel by checking "uname -a" output for PREEMPT e.g Further reading…

What to do to switch from ext4 to F2FS (one big caveat: Partition/filesystem resizing doesn't work with F2FS so this is only for you if you know the size of your SD card prior to building the image)? I tried the following so far: apt-get install f2fs-tools define size of f2fs partition in compile.sh (eg. for a 4 GB SD card use »SDSIZE="3600"«) adjust »BOOTSIZE=16« in lib/configuration.sh (line 26) replace »mkfs.vfat -n "$IMAGEVOLUME"« with »mkfs.ext4 -q« in lib/deboostrap.sh (line 66) replace »mkfs.ext4 -q« with »mkfs.f2fs« in lib/deboostrap.sh (line 67) add »-tf2fs« to mount option in lib/deboostrap.sh (line 68) comment »shrinking_raw_image "$DEST/out…

Hello everyone! I'm trying to use a small SPI LED screen with my ROC-RK3328-CC. I've scoured all over this website as well as the internet for information on enabling SPI on my ROC-RK3328-CC (libre renegade), and I'm sorry to say after trying so many things, I still cannot get it enabled. I'm currently using this image: Armbian_19.11.7_Renegade_buster_current_5.4.8.img I've added the following 2 lines to /boot/armbienEnv.txt overlays=spi-spidev param_spidev_spi_bus=0 and after reboot, nothing. nothing for dmesg|grep spi and no spidev devices in /dev I've also tried manually changing status to "okay" for fragment@1 a…

Hi, this is a problem that has persisted on my Orange Pi H2+ Board (running Armbian) for quite some time now. At one stage I thought I had resolved the issue, but now since an update to some unrelated software, said software no longer works. I have tracked this back to the locale settings, which, for all intents and purposes, don't exist. I have tried a variety of fixes, such as trying to set Locale using the armbian-config , but Locale remains adamantly blank. I can SSH into the board (which is where I ran the arm config program, as well as the following commands). I tried dpkg-reconfigure locales but I only get told the following: pe…

After reading several threads without success I need to ask again how I can get permission as a "normal" user to use the GPIO pins via my python script: #!/usr/bin/python import time PIN_NUM = 200 print "GPIO %s" % PIN_NUM try: # check to see if the pin is already exported open(''.join(['/sys/class/gpio/gpio',str(PIN_NUM),'/direction'])).read() except: # it isn't, so export it open('/sys/class/gpio/export', 'w').write(str(PIN_NUM)) # set gpiochip198 to output open(''.join(['/sys/class/gpio/gpio',str(PIN_NUM),'/direction']), 'w').write('out') for i in range(1000): open(''.join(['/sys/class/gpio/gpio',str(PIN_NUM),'/value']), 'w').write("1") t…

No matter which image I take (stretch/bionic; Bananapim2/Bananapim2ultra; 5.38/5.69) my Banana Pi M2 Berry with it's Allwinner V40 won't boot correctly. The attached screen stays off and the LED keeps shining red. I used Etcher 1.4.9 portable to copy the image to an 16 GB MicroSD. It's worth mentioning that the Pi and the MicroSD work just fine if I'm running it with another distro, like the 2018-05-24-raspbian-jessie-preview-bpi-m2u-sd-emmc.img from the official website. If I'm using the image Armbian_5.69_Bananapim2ultra_Debian_stretch_next_4.19.13, then I'm able to access the Pi via ssh. Yet, the screen won't work at all. As an interesting side …

Hi, From a quick search of the forum this appears to be happening across different CPUs so I am posting here rather in the H3 forum. Using the current updated legacy version. ARMBIAN 5.36 Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 3.4.113-sun8i /var/log/syslog gets repeated messages due to xconsole not being installed. Ref: https://devcentral.nasqueron.org/T806 https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=136&t=21897 The solution is to comment out the last few lines in /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf nano /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf so it looks like ... # NOTE: adjust the list below, or you'll go crazy if yo…

Hello, It's been more than two days working to solution. I have gone deep into the documentation and forum posts before asking this. Much of the information in this subforum is c 2017, and relates to /etc/init.d locations which are now obsolete, etc. Definitive assistance is much appreciated! I'm building clean Armbian-based images, for a number of unsupported desktop configurations on unsupported boards. These have been fantastically functional, I I'd like to make these available as community-supported releases. I do not expect such a hybrid configuration, despite using an Armbian kernel package, and an Armbian Focal base filesystem image, to ever be suppor…

I have done a firmware update on my Compulab Utilite Pro using u-boot compiled from source. However something went wrong, leaving me with a bricked board. In the manual it is mentioned, that the iMX6 has 2 boot-modes. The recovery-mode can be configured by switching some pin to a high-level. On the PCB I can not find any jumper, that allows me to do so. Question: Does anybody know how to switch the Compulab Utilite Pro to the recovery-mode? Thanks in advance

If you don't like autologin in Armbian Ubuntu desktop, or if yo want to have several desktops to choose, here is how I did this. Set default session and disable nodm Edit /etc/lxdm/lxdm.conf Find line: session=/usr/bin/startlxde Replace it with: session=/usr/bin/startxfce4 Fix for XFCE session entry from LXDM session menu: Open the /usr/share/xsessions/x…

So I'm trying to modify a certain Mycroft skill (python) to be able to play local news. Here is the commit: https://github.com/marksev1/mycroft-core/commit/164c7207374131ece23a8ddf40c7a7981f3c7084 And this python script uses mpg123 to play the mp3 from the url. 1.) If I play the mp3 in the url from the terminal normally it plays every time. 2.) If I'd try to play it from that python script it only randomly plays and in the meantime i get errors regarding jack. Hello, I've searched through various threads on here and can find no comprehensive answer on how to disable log2ram completely, forever, and preferably end up with only one /var/log with mainstream logrotate settings. This is for a situation where I'm using an actual hard drive and don't need to worry about destroying flash memory. I suspect it is more involved than just 'systemctl disable log2ram'. Any additional pointers would be very helpful, thank you!

Armbian is community driven open source project. To keep it relevant and up to date it needs maintenance round the clock. I'm trying to follow the Armbian Quick Start Guide, specifically the section "How to install to eMMC, NAND, SATA & USB?". It says to run nand-sata-install and I'll be able to choose to set up to "boot from eMMC / NAND, system on SATA / USB", which is what I want (to boot from NAND and have the system on USB). What I get on screen though is not what I expect. I see a menu that has two option 1. Boot from SD - system on SATA, USB or NVMe 5. Currently the only way to get a working GC2035 camera at Orange PI PC Plus, is to 1) install Armbian 5.20 or 5.23 ( 5.24 / 5.25 and anything newer is known not to work) 2) then you need to carefully apt-get update / apt-get upgrade and hope it doesnt break However, there is a huge problem: Armbian 5.20 and 5.23 images are not available now They should have been available at these links: Armbian 5.20 - https://dl.armbian.com/orangepipcplus/archive/Armbian_5.20_Orangepipcplus_Debian_jessie_default_3.4.112.7z Armbian 5.23 - https://dl.armbian.com/orangepipcplus/archive/Armbian_5.23_Orangepipcplus_Debian_jessie_default_3.4.112.7z …

We provided this week experimental Armbian images with mainline kernel for a few H3 boards. On the official download pages there are a few variants with 4.6.7 lurking around and here you find some with 4.7.2: http://kaiser-edv.de/tmp/w8JAAY/ Those for the NEO are also suitable for NanoPi M1 and OPi One/Lite, the one for OPi PC Plus can be used on any of the larger Oranges (no Ethernet on +/+2/+2E -- don't ask please, this is stuff for later) since they all use the same more sophisticated voltage regulator being able to adjust VDD_CPUX in 20mW steps (VDD_CPUX is the voltage the CPU cores are fed with). The procedure is called dynamic voltage frequency scaling and the id…

Hello, I just installed Armbian on my Tinker board. I use the internal wifi and another wifi usb dongle (static ip). The wifi usb receives a name wlx**** in ifconfig and the internal wifi module has wlan0. I want to have wlan1 instead of wlx***. So I checked https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/PredictableNetworkInterfaceNames/ Tried the option using dev/null and setting the net.ifnames parameter.
