Hello, I've an Orange Pi H3 board and I should use it on an old vga Acer 15" monitor. Usually with the other SBC and video outputs, I used the usual HDMI to VGA converters that doesn't have an external psu but seems to take the voltage from the 18 pin of the HDMI outputs. With this monitor that is indeed correctly identified by EDID on the adapter and on the Armbian o.s., the screen goes blank and return every few seconds randomly. I measured the PI One H3 pin 18 voltage and it gives out something like 4,6v to 4,8v and I think this might be the problem (?). I remember on the Rpi there was an option to boost the hdmi output and I suppose it increased that. Is there an…

Hi all. I have a Rockpro64 with u-boot flashed to SPI, and Armbian installed to NVMe drive*. When I use the HDMI port on the Rock to a standard HDMI port on a monitor, everything displays without issue. But recently I tried connecting to a Viewsonic va1655 using the HDMI to mini-HDMI cable, and the monitor displays fine while U-boot is doing its thing. But right before Armbian loads, the Viewsonic monitor flashes yellowish orange and then completely loses the signal. Buuut if I unplug the VS monitor and plug in the other HDMI monitor to the rock, the image is restored and Mr. Tux is patiently waiting for me to enter my password. *I'm not sure if this matters, but I u…

Happy New Year to Everyone, Am I right to assume there is no power management at all when using a SSD on a usb to sata adapter in Linux? I have this crazy plan to salvage a broken laptop and replace the dead motherboard with a sbc and other components to make the laptop useful again and one with better battery life, than 3 hours while building websites it used to give me. When the usb to sata adapter is plugged in alone, it consumes 50ma more which is ok. Add my 120gb ssd and adds another 150ma which I think is normal for the drive when idle but no sata link power management. I tried using powertop, --calibrate then --auto-t…

I installed remot3.it.deb through terminal, when in run the connectd installer, it asks me to log in, when i log in, it says: API call to https://device.remot3.it/api/project/create failed! If i run this on a Pi running Raspbian, it works fine. Any idea? It seems to be an Armbian issue as it works on other Ubuntu images. Thanks, Matthew

Hello, I need to use the UART interface ttyS0 to connect other hardware, so I would like to disable its debug function, removing the console output that is directed to it. I've tried this: I commented the following line in /boot/boot.cmd: #setenv console "both" And compiled: mkimage -C none -A arm -T script -d /boot/boot.cmd /boot/boot.scr I was not successful, could someone instruct me on how to do what I want?

This message is on-topic, but for an unknown reason, it is not possible for me to create a message in Help wanted. So I post here. I have used Armbian for two years, I think, on several devices, and I have given some money to support it. Thanks for the job. I recently upgraded to the last version with Debian 11. Everything fine but one point which is probably not a bug, that's why I don't post in "bugs". I use Unbound which is the heart of my soft. And I use a python script which is loaded by Unbound. Until now, there was no problem. With the last version, I ran in several read problems. The first reason I found is apparmor, which prevented the script to o…

I do not have petitboot installed. I ran the Armbian buster with OMV5 for over a year. I decided to make a clean install and booted Armbian bullseye 11. I changed hostname and rebooted (curiously reboot doesn't reboot the hc4, why?). I used armbian-config to install OMV. Installation completed, brought me back to armbian-config and prompted to reboot. I hit reboot (then was forced to power cycle as hc4 won't come back to life after a soft-boot?). Note that I was able to power cycle and get a good boot BEFORE omv installed but not after. At that point Odroid hc4 never comes back online. I've been through this 3 times today. I gave it as…

Hi! I'm sorry if the answer to my question is already documented somewhere, but I couldn't find it. I am trying to figure out how to build a specific release. My understanding is that you checkout the desired tag of the armbian/build repo and just build it. However, when I do this with v24.2.1 the image that comes out is named 24.5.0-trunk. Changing the version in the VERSION file (by default set to 24.5.0-trunk) changes the name of the output image, but it is not clear to me if that affects other things than just this. So basically, now I am confused which scenario is correct: Is using the armbian/build tag the correct …

Hi, After upgrade from xenial to bionic we found a problem with R1 internal WIFI. First connection to any wireless network with nmtui works wihout problem. But after that if we try to switch to another wireless network it fails. It doesn't even reconnect to the first network ever. If we plug in an external usb wifi adapter(which uses a different driver than the internal wifi driver) it works without problem as expected. What do you think ? Have you experienced the same problem ever ? What is wrong with the internal wifi ? It was working good in xenial. I blacklisted the internal driver and using external wifi adapter for now. Hi all, I'm experimenting with OPi Zero 2+ and I would like to flash onboard eMMC with a fresh Armbian (from a clean img, not from running system). What I did is booting from SD, downloading an Armbian img and dd'ing it into emmc device file, being sure it would have been enough since is what we do (I think?) when we write img to SD cards. I found out it won't boot unless I manually flash sunxi-spl.bin at 0x2000. What am I missing? Isn't that supposed to be flashed with image? Is dd a proper method to flash a clean image on mmc from a running system? Thank you

Hey all! I'm wondering if there's a tried and tested method for preparing an armbian system to be made into an SD card image, including: * Clearing the right SSH data * Triggering firstrun to run next time * Shrinking partition * Any other suggestiosn NB : the filesystem for armbian seems to be quite different from raspbian / other. Which makes shrinking the partition from another computer quite confusing (e.g. when mounting a ripped img in ubuntu we just see one full partition across the entire SD card, even if there's lots of free space)

Hello, initially, I would like to thank the Armbian project for making many of these SBCs that aren't so common usable with such a good distribution. I'm using a Banana Pi M2 Zero, and the manufacturer provided Android image didn't boot at all and I got concerned I had a brick. However, Armbian has multiple images for this board available and, right now, this board is running Armbian 21.08.6 Focal using the kernel Linux 5.10.60-sunxi. The performance difference compared to a Raspberry Pi Zero is dramatic. And it even has a Mali 400! Step by step, I'm getting more features on the board working, either by reading Armbian documentation or user contributions. From…

This is a really weird struggle: I have 2x cubieboard that are exactly identical (same HW, same board revision) including the LAN chip (realtek RTL8201CP). Both boards work fine with an earlier version of Armbian. I learned that there is an (unsupported) Armbian 21.08.1 Bullseye with Linux 5.15.25-sunxi which I installed on both. Behavior however differs with the LAN (eth0) interface. The one board works straight from install with DHCP (default), the 2nd won't work at all. dmesg | grep eth (partially) outputs: sun7i-dwmac 1c50000.ethernet eth0: no phy at addr -1 sun7i-dwmac 1c50000.ethernet eth0: stmmac_open: Cannot attach to PHY (error: -19) …

Hello Armbian Community, As you can see by my post count, I am new to Armbian, but so far have found it to be an amazing resource, and truly appreciate the hard work you all do. Its really impressive, and your knowledge and understanding of SBC’s is incredible. I am attempting to get Armbian working on a custom A64 device that was originally designed to be used as a Point-of-sale machine, that runs Android. I understand I am venturing into uncharted territory here, and this is absolutely not supported, but it’s a fun project and I am learning a ton. I am asking for help, but realize none may be available. Here is the hardware I have in hand. …

My headless Orange Pi Zero Plus was configured to boot from a powered external USB2 drive with 3 partitions, a 48Gb linux partition populated by armbian-config, a 4Gb swap partition and a 800Gb NTFS data partition (shared by Samba). The setup is stable and works beautifully when powered up from the powered off state. The Pi fails to start when I reboot it. I suspect that the USB port or drive or both need some kind of reset when a reboot occurs. Has anybody encountered this problem? Is there a known solution?

I read a lot of U Boot documentation the last hours but I still fail at fundamental understanding, like: - where can variables be set? boot.scr obviously, but there is also uEnv.txt boot.cmd armbianEnv.txt ... and in which order and precendence are they parsed? (If I set a variable in different files, which value will be used? first? last? ...) - how is a change made persistent (saveenv does not work) - Can sub-variables be changed, e.g. root in bootargs what I am trying to achieve atm is to change the boot partion rootdev from p1 to p2. Even thou I think I patched the relevant files, printenv shows that bootargs and rootdev are still set to…

Hello! I am new to Armbian, so I need a little help and advice here. Until now, I've been using a Banana Pi M1 with Bananian on it, and running NextCloud as my personal cloud server. Unfortunately, Bananian is dead, so there won't be any updated PHP version ( < 5.6), which are needed for recent NextCloud Version: NC 14 requires PHP 7, but Bananian (Debian 8.11) is stuck at PHP 5.6. Soo sad... That's why I need to switch to Armbian, and as far as I know, this project has no sword named "EOL" hovering above its head — at least not yet. ;) My questions are these: - Which version of Armbian would you recommend running NextClo…

This may not be an 'armbian' thing at all, but if not, maybe I'll get a little direction. My first "image" with armbian I downloaded had some 3.4.x kernel on it. After some learning, I was able to get GPIO to work with it. I had some other limitations though. So, I decided to build my own image (buster) so I could customize it. After booting, I GPIO did not work. I explored this, but was unable to to get it to work. I tried a -legacy version (which was 4.x) but also, GPIO did not work. This is my first sunxi experience. So, I'm not sure of the tricks used to get it to work. Either it's broken, or there are patches/config for the kernel …

I have compiled Armbian buster with Linux 5.4.32-rockchip64 with additional option in RTC clock and enabled DS1307. Everything is fine, the board can communicate with DS1307, but I am unable to use this /dev/rtc1 as the main hwclock instead on /dev/rtc (it points at /dev/rtc0 which is built in RTC). I have read many forums on Raspberry, this forum but it doesn work. I did: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/5346-rtc-ds1307-i2c-for-tinkerboard/ 1) Add "echo ds1307 0x68 > /sys/class/i2c-adapter/i2c-7/new_device" to /etc/rc.local, above the "exit 0" line at the bottom 2) In /lib/udev/hwclock-set comment out the lines below if [ -e /run/systemd/s…

Hello, I've copied the Armbian Bionic image onto an SD card (and verified it) and put it into my new Orange Pi Zero LTS 256 MB. I already have experience with Raspberry Pis and Raspbian for a few years, so this isn't entirely new to me. While I was trying to establish a stable network connection (wired and wireless), I misinterpreted some "host not reachable" as "network failed" when instead other issues existed. In the process, I unplugged the power a few times after the device has booted up but wasn't reachable via the network. Only then I connected the serial console and investigated further. There I found out that it wasn't actually booting any…

Hello, Thru various and sundry means, I have acquired this unusual specimen; a ZeroDesktop MiiPC M1140. This was originally intended to be a "family desktop PC" that runs on Android Jelly Bean and was released in 2013. It looks like a TV box had a child with a NUC. The machine runs a Marvell Armada 1500 Plus processor with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage. The company, Zerodesktop, ran a Kickstarter campaign to fund producing these - my model is one of the Kickstarter Editions. I know that the Marvell Armada 1500 was used in the Google Chromecast 2, along with a bunch of set top boxes. ZeroDesktop no longer exists as a company, having only produced t…

Hello guys! I'm new on the forum and I'll start using Armbian for my Orange boards, I was using Loboris images in Orange Pi Forums but I haven't seen any updates on them, so I decided to use Armbian for my boards. I have tested a little bit and everything works like a charm. Taking into account that I'm not an expert either in Linux or Programming I'd like to have a little board that I purchased one year ago which is the NanoPi board http://www.nanopi.org/NanoPi_Feature.html ,is it possible to port Armbian to that device? I haven't been able to use WiFi on the device or connect it to internet to update packages and so on. I also couldn't finish the "Kernel build" …

I'm writing a wiegand protocol handler in a Linux Kernel Module for the NanoPi NEO (AllWinner H3). I have the code working, meaning the interrupt handlers for the D0 and D1 pins do in fact get called when I swipe a prox card. However, I'm missing usually about half or more of the 26 bits. The wiegand protocol is 26 pulses, each pulse 50uS wide, and separated by 2000us, so yeah it has to be fast. I've set the debounce value to zero using gpio_set_debounce(), so it's running as quickly as I can make it without patching Linux source. After doing some reading, I think I need to modify the device tree to make the default polling speed for GPIOA pins faster. Or…

Hello, the description of Armbian image for Olimex Teres-1 mentiones that it supports HDMI auto-detect. Which i suppose it means basically HDMI support. However, my HDMI display is not detected at all. No message in journalctl/syslog. xrandr finds only one screen. Does it work for owners of Teres? Just to make sure HW-wise all is OK i tested that with the Olimex provided image v1.5 and the HDMI output works just fine. Thanks

I'm using Banana Pi M2 Zero with Armbian Debian GNU/Linux 10 (Buster). Compiled the image myself with the latest source code using the armbin/build repository. I want to be able to do serial communication on pins 8 and 10. I'm looking for something to appear at /dev/ttyAMA0, so I can communicate with it. I saw some other forum posts which mentioned it'll happen on /dev/ttyS0 , however even that is not happening. The serial communication is working via FTDI (using the USB side connected to the Banana Pi), which indicates there is no problem with the other device. This is what the configuration looks like using "sudo minicom -s". +…

Hi, A few months back I installed version 5.10 on a cubietruck. After setting everything up I configure the system to boot from SD and have the system on SATA. Everything was fine until yesterday. It looks like my SD card is corrupted. I created a new SD card using version 5.14 and booted, after booting I mounted the SATA drive and everything seems fine on the SATA. The question is how can I boot again from SD and use the existing system on my SATA? I don’t want to have to reinstall/configure everything. Thank you Mike

Hi, I would like to get a Debian Jessie version without systemd. I already tried to reconfigure an armbian image to remove systemd (There are several topics about this like this one or this discussion). This worked for me except for one important thing: initramfs. I would like to know if it is possible to configure the build-tool (compile.sh) to directly create a Jessie image without systemd and with sysvinit. I've been trying to setup my Orange PI PC to be my file/media server. I used a "HOW-TO" on setting up a static IP address. It seems like it is working for me except I can't seem to connect to the outside world. Does anyone have a first step or idea to get me setup correctly? Samba post to come in separate thread.

I've noted that 'armbianmonitor -u' will obfuscate some detail such as IPv4 addresses prior to uploading, but it misses similar additional detail: IPv6 addresses, specifically 'global' scope, are left intact. These are on interface configurations and in resolv.conf configurations at least. 'domain' and 'search' directives in resolv.conf are left intact. These can (would) include local domain names, which may be sensitive outside of a given environment. username is exposed in showing group membership. This may be minor but in some cases may be sensitive outside of a given environment, and perhaps can be shown anonymously such as '### Group membership o…

Hey guys, What is in your opinion the best solution to add WIFI/BT capability to a A20 board? Currently I tried to add ESP8266 connected with SDIO. (without much success so far). Then in order to add BT too I am thinking about ESP32 (with ESP-WROOM-32 module). Do you know if there are references of using this ESP32 solution to provide wifi and bt to a allwinner board/armbian ? Also this module have a lot of different interfaces available, which should be prefered? Or alternatively, do you know other armbian supported solution for wifi/bt? Best would be a solution that does not use USB ports as I need them. …

Hi, I'm trying to generate a U-Boot for my OrangePi Plus board (H3). I'm using the Denx 2021.10 release and have tried the standard defconfig for this board and also variations of this config. Starting the kernel is fine but the kernel crashes/hangs when starting if I'm using HYP (nonsec) mode. Starting in sec mode works but this only enables one of the four CPU cores. The kernel crash/hang occurs while executing "udevadm trigger --action=add" but I can't determine exactly what is being enabled when the error occurs. Trying different kernels (including the Armbian 5.10 version) show no difference. The Armbian U-Boot (2021-10 dated August 2…
