Hi I am building armbian image for Nanopi Neo. I need to include SWUpdate package in my armbian build. The already built SWUpdate package does not work for me, because I need to disable CONFIG_SIGNED_IMAGES. As far as I understand, I need to rebuild SWUpdate inside the armbian build system. Can you please help me to understand where I should write commands to build SWUpdate from source (git repo), so that armbian build system will put the built binary and libraries into the resulting image?

Version `25.8.2` of kernel, dtb and/or header package on Armbian Ubuntu Noble break `zfs-dkms` (I'm pretty sure kernel module `zfs` was not built with success) I had to run: ```sh sudo apt install linux-image-current-meson64=25.8.1 linux-headers-current-meson64=25.8.1 linux-dtb-current-meson64=25.8.1 && sudo dpkg-reconfigure zfs-dkms ``` I couldn't look in to the problem, because I was busy doing something else when I was just upgrading every package on the system. I had to prioritize quickly fixing it before another user arrives so I just reverted the suspicious packages (the three I mentioned in the title) I can't lo…

Hi, Got a bit of a strange situation here. Trying to get H3 I2S working in both playback and capture. Tweaked script.bin and got the I2S0 up and running. Playback in 96K and 192K tested and is ok. Capture though is giving me a headache. When I try to use arecord it does work and generates a wav file but upon playing the file with aplay and although the samplerate (96K or 192K) and channel numbers (Stereo) show ok on screen, the audio result from this recording is always mono and looks that the included samples numer is divided by 2 thus the playback time is shortened accordingly, eg if I record 10 sec, a 5 sec playing time happens. Verified the…

I've spent a day going crazy trying to sort this and am failing. I want to share an NTFS USB hard drive via samba to a windows machine. At the moment I have shared the home directory which works fine but whenever I try to access the NTFS USB drive I get a permission error from the Windows machine. As far as I can glean it's to do with mounting permissions on the NTFS drive but how do I sort this when armbian automounts the drive?

Setup: I have a small home network with several SBCs, PCs, NASs and two devices are running Armbian ARMBIAN 5.59, ARMBIAN 5.59 stable Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS 4.14.65-sunxi for the Orange Pi Zero and ARMBIAN 5.59 testing Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS 4.14.65-sunxi for the Cubieboard 1. The OPi Zero runs the PiHole application for the whole network. There's a MikroTik router which does DHCP for the network. Problem: The Armbian devices are not able to do a local name resolution, a `ping router.lan` or `ping orangepizero.lan` or `ping cubieboard.lan` from either device gives the error: "Name or service not known". A ping by IP is without issues, same pro…

Hello In raspberry pi there is an option to add a boot splash screen, looking in this forum I havent found and instructions or if it is even possible. I am not interested with u-boot splash screen but when the Linux start booting. I am using 3.5" SPI LCD and I do see the boot logs when the Linux is loading. So my question is if there is any guide of how to do that boot splash screen in Armbian or there is no way to do that?

Of the boards supported by Armbian, which do you prefer for multiple audio devices and audio related applications? I need to control two audio streams, in and out each and add information to the streams as appropriate. I would like to use as little external hardware as possible so stereo mic or dual mic input and stereo out would be awesome. I'm a little overwhelmed by the choices, so opinions are definitely welcome here.

How to compile DKMS on the board? I am trying this for the past week without success and starting to go crazy... The last kernel which worked is 6.11.2. I tried with zfs-dkms (from apt's repositories and from manually build .deb from zfs git) and with aic8800 drivers. I've tried Bookworm image, tried Noble. Tried -current and -edge kernels. Tried many kernel revisions. Tried to build kernels (image & headers) with compile.sh with docker, without docker. Updated my x86 Debian to Trixie. Compilers are same on the build host and on the board: longanpi-3h# dpkg -l | grep -i gcc ii gcc 4:13…

Hi At the beginning I would like to say hi. I do not know English well, so please be patient. I will try to describe my problem. I have a Nanopi K2 and a Waveshare 7 LCD HDMI (C) display. After connecting and starting Nanopi, nothing is displayed. It seems to me that the computer can not properly start. When I turn on the Nanopi and the system will load, then I connect the display and it works correctly. Picture and touch work. What could be the reason? Where to start? Regards Trebor

Hi there. I have some audio project on different SOM/SOC boards, now my task is to bring an i2s DAC on RK3399. I use external high-quality clock for i2s and need to make the Rockchip the masterclock slave. This is the case where I find no tail to pull yet, due to VERY cumbersome device tree, poorly documented and poorly explored. For instance, the CPU datasheet says that I2S_MCLK is output only, whilst I could find the opposite in the TRM. Moreover, the clock tree explained there, says that I can use CLKIN_I2S not only for i2s interfaces, but for spdif also! (Also there is explained some "bitclock slave mode", it's even implemented in the DAI driver,…

Hello dear developers and visitors to the forum. I have compiled my core for the opi3 board, but I do not know what to do to test my core. There is little information on the u-boot bootloader and I can’t configure it on my kernel, if I replace the vmlinuz-5.4.7-sunxi64 file, the board does not start, u-boot reports that there is no kernel image. I turn to professionals, please teach me how to work with U-Boot.

I've been trying to setup my Orange PI PC to be my file/media server. I used a "HOW-TO" on setting up a static IP address. It seems like it is working for me except I can't seem to connect to the outside world. In the process of setting up my samba server, I have found that I have no internet connection because I can't run "apt-get update" and if I open a browser I can't reach any web-page. Does anyone have a first step or idea to get me setup correctly? Samba post to come in separate thread.

I have problem, I am not able to get console working to access my nanopi neo air. PSU is not issue, opi+2 runs with same power w/o issues. Sdcard is not problem either. Tested with more than one image and based on how onboard leds behaves, i believe that system boots up ok. Now the question: How to modify image on sdcard so that it connects to my WIFi (WPA2-PSK) on boot automatically making ssh to nano working? Or should I mount image, before writing to sdcard, and do the needed changes inside mounted image? What and how? Thanks!

I'm trying to follow the Armbian Quick Start Guide, specifically the section "How to install to eMMC, NAND, SATA & USB?". It says to run nand-sata-install and I'll be able to choose to set up to "boot from eMMC / NAND, system on SATA / USB", which is what I want (to boot from NAND and have the system on USB). What I get on screen though is not what I expect. I see a menu that has two option 1. Boot from SD - system on SATA, USB or NVMe 5. Install/Update the bootloader on SD/eMMC Why don't I get the option to set up to boot from NAND (which I guess might be option 3, going by the documentation)? cubieboard 2, …

I have some DYI idea to make some custom ODBII Logger using SBC with Armbian. So I'm searching for suitable SBC: - quite small (50x50mm max), IoT category I think - with H3, at least 512MB RAM - eMMC at least 4GB, SD Cards support - 1 USB for pendrive - wifi in AP mode, just for ssh and copying small files via scp - second UART, freen 2xGPIO, and nice to have audio line-out also - and the most important: running Armbian in headless mode with booting from eMMC - working DVFS to keep temperature in lower levels, no heat dissipation problems (SBC will mostly work with low cpu usage, but I don't really know how low can be CPU/DRAM clock…

Hello there, I am using Armbian 20.11.6 Buster with Linux 4.4.213-rk3399 on a Nanopi M4V2, I have connected 3 SATA HDDs and use mdadm (for a RAID 5 Array of those drives), luks lvm and ext4 (in that order, more details below) to store my backups. `armbianmonitor -u` link: http://ix.io/2NYv Recently I have received errors in borg backup, about mismatching checksums. When I power down H3-devices I see quite different results. Normally I use 'sudo poweroff' which should behave like 'shutdown -P'. I guess the command was successfull when the last message on the serial console reads "Power down." This works with Legacy Images. Power consumption drops significantly. On the NEO and OPi Zero to somewhat 150 mW, NEO Air 250 mW. To my surprise the Orange Pi One drops even to 0 mW. Question 1: Why is that? Is it different voltage regulators, or are parts of some boards purposefully kept powered on? Testing Mainline Images things are more simple: I never even reach the "power down"-target, the sys…

Using my modified kernel and u-boot for NanoPi R2S I am able to run armbian-install because in the system booted from SD card the eMMC is enabled. But after installing to eMMC, shutting down and removing the SD card, boot fails because u-boot cannot access the eMMC. Looking at the device tree for NanoPi R2S in u-boot, not surprisingly, eMMC is not enabled: NanoPi R2S does not have eMMC memor…

Not sure if this is considered an appropriate request for the Armbian forum, but I'll give it a try. New installation of Buster server 4.19.62-sunxi on OPiZero 512MB, with 32GB SanDisk A1 card. I installed CUPS (and Samba) via armbian-config, added myself to lpadmin; I can access the web interface. "Add printer" sees my Brother HL-2270DW on wifi, but no matter how I add the printer, I get one of a variety of errors when attempting to print a test page. CUPS finds and installs the printer at dnssd://Brother%20HL-2270DW%20series._ipp._tcp.local/ but when I print a test page, CUPS says it can't find the printer. So I change the URI to the printer's IP address on m…

I have a pair of Orange Pi 3's acting as redundant PiHoles on my home network. After a bit of tinkering and configuring, I have them set up the way I want, and would like to keep them that way. Of course, a good backup plan is essential to this. Looking online, I found Image-Utils for Raspberry Pi, but that is limited in support for only the Raspbian OS. Is there a good system out there to make a cloneable image of an SD card in an Orange Pi, either from the Pi itself to a remote source (NFS mount, etc.), or from a remote source pulling from the Pi? I'd like to schedule this as a CRON job, so that in the event of a hardware failure, I can just re…

I've tried to compile libgpiod (my assumption is this is a user space lib) and it depends on gpio.h which is used by the kernel. According to https://github.com/brgl/libgpiod/issues/22 gpio.h should be installed with linux-libc-dev which is already installed and gpio.h is missing. I installed the kernel headers and tried (it ends up with typedef conflicts): ./autogen.sh --enable-tools=yes --prefix=/usr/local CFLAGS="-I/usr/src/linux-headers-4.14.14-sunxi/arch/arm/include -I/usr/src/linux-headers-4.14.14-sunxi/include" configure: error: linux/gpio.h header not found (needed to build the library) I've attached the config.log. Maybe I'm to…

Hello everyone I own some noname chinese Android stick, which has Allwinner A20 CPU. Unfortunately, long time ago seller cheated me and device has 512 MB ram instead of 1GB (4 gigabit chips..). It has some "Android" firmware (which shows 1GB), but I cannot find nor backup, neither upgrade firmware. Not a big deal, since device not in active use. I tried Armbian Cubeiboard2 and pcDuino3 builds - everything working like a charm, desktop starts, so I want to run sata-nand install for Armbian for legacy kernel - /dev/nand is here, and I can even dump a "backup" of NAND to have it "just in case". Some help is really appreciated (some questio…

Let me start by saying thank you all for the great work, it is appreciated! So a bit of info first. board: firefly rk3399-pc pro ( yeah I know it’s old, but so am I!) os: armbian Debian trixie kernel: 6.18.35 Bear with me, last time I touched Linux, lilo and xfree86 were things… I installed the community supported rk3399-firefly as I didn’t find a better match for the pro. Most of the hardware worked with the major exception of the audio. No problem, the rk3399-roc-plus.dts had the correct audio for the board all I needed to do was switch the audio portion into the rk3399-firefly.dts (though other aspects including just booti…

Hello, I have Banana Pi R2 with armbian bionic. Have two wlan cards both USB, both works. But earlier when I used openwrt on x86 my both wlan and lan were bridged and had one IP - which was router IP. Here with armbian wlan hotspot get other IP than armbian itself. Is there any way to change it to bridge? Or best practices is to leave it as is? regards, Maciek

I'm trying to set up a build system, but I ran into a problem that I can't seem to find a solution for. I've never done this, so I'm a total noob at this. So steps I took. Set up a virtualbox with Ubuntu Bionic 18.04. Then followed this guide. https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Using-Vagrant/ Until step : vagrant up. I get an error: VT-x is not available. Hi everyone, I know this question has been answered earlier, but maybe something has changed with the recent versions of U-boot and kernel. So, is there any progress with support of NAND flash with A20 CPU in mainline kernel and U-boot? If NAND is not supported in U-boot, is it possible to load mainline kernel from legacy u-boot?

Hello all! First of all, apologies for being such a noob but I am very eager to get started and there may be some ambiguous language here as a result. I am getting started in Armbian Linux Buster on the Pine A64+ and for my first project I'd like to program a 7 segment display (four digits) to display descending numbers from 1000. As you may know, 7-segment displays with more than one digit require the display to operate at a certain frequency in order to display multiple digits as a result of the common anode/cathode configuration. I have already played around with a simple LED and have gotten it to light up in armbian linux buster on the A64 (by defining the…

I'm trying to get Armbian running on a Rock Pi S, but my custom builds aren't booting (see output below). I can successfully boot with the Buster image from here, but I need a custom custom build that will eventually include a few added scripts and be flashed to the NAND flash on the board, instead of using an SD card. When I run a custom-built image, I never see the Armbian splash on in the serial console, instead I get the following output: DDR Version V1.26 REGFB: 0x00000032, 0x00000032 In 589MHz DDR3 Col=10 Bank=8 Row=15 Size=512MB msch:1 Returning to boot ROM... Hello Armbian community I just acquired a Raxda Rock 3A with a Raxda Wireless module A8 (RTL8852BE) card. The Ubuntu distribution from Raxda seems to work pretty well, but it's not very recent, which is why I wanted to try Armbian! The current version (Armbian 23.02 Jammy Kernel 6.1.y, Size: 579Mb, Release date: Feb 27, 2023) seems to work, but I have two questions: 1) No wifi, the card is not detected (probably a driver issue, it works with the official OS), if there are members who have solved this? 2) I haven't seen much information on setting up a boot from an nvme storage, have you tried this? Hi all! I make a board base on H3 CPU, I got a 8G EMMC under mmc2, and a ap6212a chip under mmc1. It boots successfully with the "armbian orange-pi-pc-plus", the emmc works fine while the wifi does not work, so, i changed the dts's mmc1 section based on the file 'sun8i-h3-orangepi-pc-plus.dts' in 'arch/arm/boot/dts/' directory, the mmc1 is changed to as follows: &mmc1 { vmmc-supply = <®_vcc3v3>; vqmmc-supply = <®_vcc3v3>; mmc-pwrseq = <&wifi_pwrseq>; bus-width = <4>; non-removable; status = "okay"; /* * Explicitly define the sdio device, so that we can add an ethernet * alias for it (w…

I recently bought a NanoPi M4V2 with the SATA HAT extension. I'm planning on using it to build a personal NAS. However, I have some concerns about the SATA HAT. After my last update on my radxa5-ITX, apart from the name changes of the NIC (related?), I remarked that I could not cryptroot-unlock the root partition because of dm_mod apparently missing from initramfs. To give some context, this is how I set things up some while ago and things went pretty smooth until recently. Too bad armbian does not keep the previous kernel (though I get the reason why). Inspecting the boot partition, cat config-6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx | grep DM_CRYPT CONFIG_DM_CRYPT=m the kernel seems to have been compiled with the proper option and lsinitramfs initrd.img-6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx | grep 'usr.*cryptsetup' usr/lib/aarch64-l…

Hey fellas I have FOUR different armbian devices (one official armbian, three running ophub's armbian) which all seem to struggle with network throughput at high latency connections. It is not a cpu issue and this doesn't occur on x86 debian. Here's the odd thing. If I connect an ethernet usb dongle, like rtl8152b I get the full throughput even at high latency. What??? So it's a nic issue? I thought maybe the onboard ethernet isn't well supported by the kernel so I got a nanopi neo4 with onboard realtek gigabit running official armbian 6.12.3x ... AND it's slow too. Any onboard nic with armbian is slow in my tests. …

A problem I'm having with my fresh install of Armbian Bionic on my Libre Renegade board is that I cannot use the user login due to read-only file system warnings. Root login does allow more freedom, but comes with its own drawbacks. Prior to writing Armbian to the chip from Windows, I formatted the chip exFAT. I've reinstalled Armbian mutiple times on multiple chips, but even the recommended A1 SD doesn't work. I'm not sure where the problem lies. Is this strictly a hardware issue? Is there any non-extensive ways to workaround or fix the problem in the terminal? I'm not too familiar with Linux terminology, but can figure out common terms. I can supply more in…

Hello, Thru various and sundry means, I have acquired this unusual specimen; a ZeroDesktop MiiPC M1140. This was originally intended to be a "family desktop PC" that runs on Android Jelly Bean and was released in 2013. It looks like a TV box had a child with a NUC. The machine runs a Marvell Armada 1500 Plus processor with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage. The company, Zerodesktop, ran a Kickstarter campaign to fund producing these - my model is one of the Kickstarter Editions. I know that the Marvell Armada 1500 was used in the Google Chromecast 2, along with a bunch of set top boxes. ZeroDesktop no longer exists as a company, having only produced t…

I have a Orange PI PC that I"m setting up as my file server with samba. I am using a hard drive with a SATA to USB adapter for my storage device. One idea that I've had is that I'm not accessing the share folder through the config file. However I'm not sure how to properly access my HDD. Hey guys, I'm trying to find a way to read the values of the LRADC0 and LRADC1 of the A20. Those ADC are usually used for android-style buttons (labeled "VOL+", "VOL-", "MENU", "SEARCH", "HOME", "ESC" and "ENTER") which are connected to a low-resolution ADC via a resistor network. But I want to use the ADC for another purpose and I just need to read values between 0 and 63. Now it seems there is already a driver which let you setup the android-style buttons in the DTS (as can be seen in this patch) But I can't find the code of this driver, which I could use as a template. Any idea how to find the driver ? Or…

I have a NanoPi R2S Plus. If I boot the FriendlyElec Debian image both network ports work: LAN and WAN. If I boot the Armbian NanoPi R2S image, it boots OK and the LAN port works but the WAN port does not work. I believe the WAN port does not work because the NanoPi R2S has an RTL8211E chip but the NanoPi R2S Plus has an RTL8211F chip. I found some notes about problems with network on other boards that had the same change of chip (e.g. radxa RockpiE) and the device tree changes required to accommodate the new chip. So I tried to patch armbian/build to make the same changes for the NanoPi R2S Plus. I am not familiar with armbian/build or…

We will be configuring in a mode that allows both NFSv3 and NFSv4 clients to connect to access to the same share. Q. What are the benefits of an NFS share over a SAMBA share? A. This would take an article in itself! But as a brief reasoning, In a closed network (where you know every device), NFS is a fine choice. With a good network, throughput it disgustingly fast and at the same time less CPU intensive on the server. There are a lot of applications that support NFS "Out of the box" KODI being a common example. It's very simple to set up and you can toggle readonly on shares you don't need to be writeable. It only gets complicated if you want to start l…

I been running my own images with great success thanks to rock solid build environment but one thing that catches me by surprise every now and then is that updating the system can also overwrite my custom kernel, which is is far from ideal. Up until now I been issuing an apt hold command for the packages but I was thinking maybe there is a better way. Because even with the hold in place if I don't pay close attention and do an apt dist-upgrade for example they will still be replaced despite the hold. Is there a better way to prevent my kernels from being updated by the stock kernel? Cheers!

I'm kinda new here, and lets first say thank you for Armbian, it has kinda saved me from having to do a lot more work than I have had to, to get my Orange Pi 5 Plus to a state where it's really a pretty cool little test/experimental system... BUT, I wondered... since many of these devices have accessible PCIe in one form or another, and the Mali GPU is a bit of a blocker... Perhaps it would be good to build the kernel with the modules for open source GPUs for Mesa... AMDGPU, XE, and i915.. Currently I'm in this position... I know I could clone the project from GIT, and build my own kernel, but this seems like an obvious next step and I wonder how many other people would …

Hi, I downloadded the latest debian_stretch_next for OPZ+2 H5. Yes, I know it's experimental and not production-grade, I just want to report the issue. The problem is that apt-get (dpkg-deb) fails to decompress deb archives during the upgrade procedure. Tried it on a clean install multiple times on different microSDs. Are the packages really corrupted or is there something wrong with the image? Error log in the attachments P.S.: ubuntu_xenial_next randomly panics during apt update. h5.txt

Hi there. More than a year ago i started a project on this CPU and mainly succeeded with Nanopc-T4 board, old Armbian (5.95/4.4.179) and a custom DTB. The hardware project included the SBC and a Chinese TFT dashboard-style display panel (thus - MIPI/DSI, as I could not find the same for LVDS). Mainly using the poke-and-peek method I collected the way to mod the DTS so the DSI port is active, and the display worked like a charm. Mostly I pasted the DSI part from OrangePi DTS. I must admit that that turned out to be pure luck. Because once I moved (after big pause) to the SOM and self-designed carrier board (identical in USB, SSD, MMC, video section to Friend…

Hello Community! File /boot/orangepi/OrangePiH5orangepi.dts is not self-explanatory.. :-( Is there any documentation on how to define GPIO.21 for example for DIGITAL OUTPUT with initial "Logical ONE" at a BOOT time? It will control Triac with 220 Volts on it. IT MUST BE EXACTLY AT HIGH LEVEL AT A BOOT TIME. How to do this? It should be in OUT mode. Any help appreciated!... Regards, Ellad

My goal is to use Radxa Rock3a with a large 3.5inch HDD as a first step. Works fine if I use a M.2 E-key adapter which connects on the PCIe2.0 x1 lane and provides SATA via a JMB 5-port chip (only 2 connectors, support is in U-boot default Armbian build 2024.10). Worked also if I use an overlay included in early 6.1.84-vendor-rk35xx builds that maps RK3568 SATA onto the PCIe2.0 M.2 connector traces/signals, but now the whole 6.1.84-vendor-rk35xx ends in panic. I have not looked at exact changes (it is from the beta channel), but it was working with trunk.x and now installed variant is from trunk.y. I might not be able to find exact numbers for x and …

Hi, I'm trying to install new bananian 15.08 ( jassie ), in the past I installed 15.04 ( wheezy ) and setup sata encrypted disk successfully using follow instructions ( http://development-annotations.blogspot.it/2015/05/banana-pi-encrypted-sata-disk-bootstrap.html ). In the new 15.08 the /boot layout changed and I need some help: I tried to setup the root disk in the boot.cmd and compiled the boot.scr # mainline kernel >= 4.x #-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0 console=tty1 cryptdevice=/dev/sda1:cryptroot root=/dev/m…
