Hello guys! I'm new on the forum and I'll start using Armbian for my Orange boards, I was using Loboris images in Orange Pi Forums but I haven't seen any updates on them, so I decided to use Armbian for my boards. I have tested a little bit and everything works like a charm. Taking into account that I'm not an expert either in Linux or Programming I'd like to have a little board that I purchased one year ago which is the NanoPi board http://www.nanopi.org/NanoPi_Feature.html ,is it possible to port Armbian to that device? I haven't been able to use WiFi on the device or connect it to internet to update packages and so on. I also couldn't finish the "Kernel build" …

Hello. I created a HotSpot with my Orange Pi Zero H2 with the latest version of Armbian Bionic. Everything seems to work, but I need the access point to reserve dynamic IPs, ie for a device with MAC address XX.XX.XX.XX.XX I have to reserve and then assign a specific IP address XXX.XXX. XXX.XXX. Any idea how to configure this HotSpot? Do I have to add some commands to the hostapd.conf file or what? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello folks, I have been searching a lot on this topic without finding any solution. I have a bananapi and an edimax ac usb stick. I set it up to be a hotspot a few years back, it was working quite well and I stored an image as backup. To date, I wanted to re-use it but surprisingly, restoring that image on an SD does not produce anymore a working hotspot...this is awful/awesome since nothing has changed in between. This image is running on kernel 4.x (I have read on the forum that on kernel 5.x hotspot has problems) and I have also tried with the latest armbian OS based on kernel 5.x I don't know what to do anymore, since hostapd starts correctly, acc…

I have a Orange Pi Zero 2W and want to install a headless ( minimal ) OS. I have tried Armbian 25.5.1. I have an Ubuntu box and I have attempted to write to the SD card using Armbian ImagerImager, by selecting an image from the app as well as downloading an image to use. In both instances, I get a FLASH failure. See the attached image for the diag link. Can anyone give me some insight?

Hi, I am currently working on a OLinuxIno A20 limeX system which works in read only mode. I use the code I developped here: https://github.com/lauhub/debian-to-readonly I have small problems with armbian evolutions, since it uses, creates and modifies some files in some directories that should not be modified according to this page. Example of files : /etc/init.d/armhwinfo (modifies permissions of /etc/logrotate.d/armhwinfo) /sbin/fake-hwclock (creates /etc/fake-hwclock.data) /etc/update-motd.d/40-updates /usr/local/bin/armbianmonitor (modifies /etc/armbianmonitor/datasources/soctemp) I can easily disable these files for my purposes, but I would be gla…

Hello! I wanted to install the Armbian 26.2.1 Minimal / IOT to an Ordoid HC2 (using the XU4 distro). Download ok - sha hash is ok - balena etcher ok - startup - ok. Problem: When I log in the first time with "root", the "1234" as first password is not accepted. Also, PUTTY warns that ths ssh of the armbian uses only "Diffie-hellmann-group1-sha1" which (for PUTTY) is a bit unsecure. Any idea about the password issue?

I am wondering if anyone else has had any success getting Armbian installed on a Banana Pi M5. I'm definitely a noob at this. After thinking the first M5 I tried it on was perhaps defective, but after trying on a second M5 I had the same result, board will not boot and the Green, Blue and Red lights on the board are all solid (not blinking). I'm afraid I may have bricked both boards. I used bpi-copy to flash the on-board emmc and did not receive any errors in the process. I am unable to boot from emmc or sd card at this point. I tried flashing the SD Card with Debian Bullseye and then on another attempt Ubuntu server (both images had worked previously) but to no ava…

Does it make sense? I would like to use the mainline armbian kernel on a custom minimal Buildroot image to use on a orange pi zero. Buildroot because of its lightness and armbian because it has Opi audio drivers and codec that doesn't seem to be included in Buildroot default kernel. If this is possible, could you help me with the configuration of Buildroot to use armbian as kernel?

Hello- I'm looking to marry free and open (as possible) software and hardware into one inexpensive system. I'm in over my head so apologies in advance if I'm asking silly stuff. I did check the basics on here and have been lurking. At any rate I've been messing around with the Lime 2 and haven't had much luck getting Parabola to boot into LXDE... or any GUI at all actually. I thought I'd try Armbian as the Debian Kernel has been blob-less for a while now. I really, really like it so far. I am using Mainline, just want to make sure I'm running all free software if possible. I have checked for non-free stuff via: dpkg-query -W -f='$…

hi to all how can I change the armbian logo in bootsplash? I've searched for it in this forum and saw some similarity but that not solved my problem. I enabled the bootlogo=true in /boot/armbianEnv.txt and after that the logo appears in boot instead of texts and that's fine but I want to change the logo. also in boot.cmd I found this: if test "${bootlogo}" = "true"; then setenv consoleargs "bootsplash.bootfile=bootsplash.armbian ${consoleargs}"; fi changed the "bootsplash.armbian" with some bitmap file but after doing mkimage to create boot.scr, the logo went missing and texts are back. searched in file system for "bootsplash.armbian" and found thi…

Hi there, I am using SD Card Copier on Raspbian to copy one Raspberry microsd card to another (can be smaller than original card) and it works great. But when I used it to copy armbian microsd card to another microsd card, another microsd card is unable to boot. Any idea what can be wrong? I love this approach because I am able to copy original card to smaller card but unfortunatelly Armbian OS is not able to boot (on the other hand Raspbian boots ok). When I use Win32DiskImager to copy Rasbian and Armbian, both new cards boot up successfully. Any idea please how can I use SD Card Copier installed on Raspbian to copy microsd card with…

Trying to download armbian for rockpi-4a, following the link https://redirect.armbian.com/rockpi-4a/ on https://www.armbian.com/rock-pi-4/ In one case, this resolves to https://mirrors.netix.net/armbian/dl/rockpi-4a/, which shows an empty directory except for an archive subdirectory that is empty too. clicking around through the armbian/dl folder, this seems to be only empty directories for any board. In another case, the redirect resolves to https://minio.k-space.ee/armbian which just returns XML gibberish.

Hey all... Looking to put something a LOT more lightweight than RaspiOS (and not-modern-desktoppy at all, please) on my Pi4Bs. Found out about armbian from the Wikipedia page and downloaded the Jammy CLI image, but I can't get either gitlab or github to talk to me for downloading either of the recommended imagers; gitlab just gives me a blank page (no HTMl at all, per Firefox "view source") and github outright refuses connections. If it's important I do not have accounts on either system, and am loath to create same, although I could if necessary. I don't have Internet at home so I'm doing this from a Win10 PC at my public library; it's running t…

Hi there, I've recently flashed armbian on my sd card for my odroid c4. At some point I may have restarted it and it is no longer booting. Hello all I have a many questions, but I will start off with the 2 I need to be helped on. 1: The Le Potato needs butter and sour cream. HAHA I has to say it... I am running the newest flavor of Armbian created in the last few weeks (Armbian 22.08 Jammy XFCE Kernel 5.10.y, Size: 1263Mb, Updated: Aug 30, 2022). I am new on to a non Pi bd so forgive me on the differences. After loading imaging and updating (or not) the board any time I try to do a full shutdown, all it does is reboot. After I get this to work I will work on my other issue below. 2: I would like to use this as a replacement for Pi 3A+ on a remote solar powered weather station …

I'm currently running Armbian Ubuntu Xenial Server on a Cubietruck, it works very well, thanks for all the effort! I recently bought a Raspberry Pi 3, installed some of the available images and found them kind of disappointing. The RPI2 and RPI3 both support ARMv7, which should make it reasonably easy to run Armbian Ubuntu images on it. Any chance of getting RPI2/3 support in the future? I would be willing to test work. Thanks!

Has anyone managed to get armbian running on the Allwinner T113-s3? I've been looking into getting it running and there's really no alternatives to Tina linux that I can find. Looks like it works with AWBoot and XBoot as a bootloader so it shouldn't be impossible. I'm completely new to this so if anyone knows anything it would be greatly appreciated. 😄

I would like to run Armbian on my multi boot PC. i came across a video on how to install Armbian on an X86 PC. How you have to use Gnome Disk to Restore Image to your drive. Good day. Yesterday I downloaded the latest Armbian version for the ASUS Tinker Board S and flashed the built-in eMMC (with Etcher Balena). The software works fine, but - the SD card is not mounted as mass storage, the file manager THUNAR does not recognize it. also lsusb does not recognize it. - a plugged USB- flash-stick is not mounted by the file manager THUNAR, although lsusb lists it. Ist das Problem behebbar? Is the problem fixable? The USB stick of a wireless mouse is recognized and also connects to the conputermouse. Hello. I saw all topics about armbian on Q8, Q88 tablets, but some of them are dead with no success, some say, that it is working somehow for someone. I understand, that armbian more tended to be for boards, but come on! There is a huge pile of tablets, that uses same processors, memory, wifi and other chips, and there is a sun5i-a13-q8-tablet.dtb in /boot/dtb of an image of armbian. So, I compiled custom Armbian image using olinuxinoA13 configuration as there wasn't any for q8-tablet. Wrote or burned it with USB Image Writer (I'm on Linux Mint 19 Cinamon) on SD card, mounted it, edited ArmbianEnv.txt line disp_mode=800x480p60. Put SD in tablet, pushed on button... s…

Hi, I'm running a FriendlyElec CM3588 board, really enjoying Armbian, but the CPU fan does not work whatsoever. It's meant to be powered from the 5V outlet marked FAN (close to MASK button). I replaced the fan with another one, same result - so hopefully it's not the hardware at fault. I never dug into fan control on Linux, anybody knows what to do?

Hello everyone, Over the past year or so, I've been getting back to my utilite pro board that bought quite a while back. After asking a few things to Compulab, and figuring out some of the bad download links to get their latest resources, I could finally upgrade to their latest Ubuntu build, that was based on 12.04. So not so recent. I am not the most aware user when it comes to arm devices, but a page on the Debian wiki pointed out to running buster on the board. Then, I came across the armbian ecosystem, and thought, well, I'll give it a try. Kudos to the work done. This looks impressive. The past days I've been trying to co…

Hey guys! Cheap Android tablets based on allwinner chipsets were pretty common back in 2012. Recently I found an tablet equipted with an Allwinner A10 SoC (LY-F1) lying lonely around on my fathers desk. He bought that tablet back then because of the cheap price, but never really used it. Luckily my father also saved an Android 4.0.4 ROM he downloaded from the suppliers website back then, because all websites of this supplier are offline now. After playing around with my OPiZ and seeing how well the sunxi/armbian kernel works, I thounght myself i should try to boot linux from this tablet. At first I tried to pack an image that can be directly writte…

Hello! For some weeks now my BPM1 behaves a bit strange concerning video output. I used to connect my Banana to my monitor via a HDMI-DVI cable, which worked well for a very long time. Now, when I reboot the system, my monitor says "no signal", when I use that cable, as it does also when I use a pure HDMI-HDMI cable. The only way to make the Banana's video output work, is by using a HDMI-DSUB converter. But here comes the even stranger mystery: after I booted the Banana, using that converter, I can change the cable to whatever I want: HDMI-HDMI or HDMI-DVI, they both suddenly work again! But if I reboot the Banana again, not using the H…

Hi, first of all, a great compliment to the makers of armbian, really good job you're doing! I installed legacy ubuntu trusty for pcsuino3-nano on my pcduino3 (not nano) and everything works fine. First i tried the vanilla version, but i could not manage to get UART2 (ttyS1) to work, so i switched back to legacy where everything with UART2 works properly. Maybe someone knows how to get ttyS1 working with the vanilla kernel on pcduino3 with that image provided. But I'm happy with legacy kernel for now. Now to the question, what i like better with vanilla is, that there's no preinstalled desktop-environment. I am using the pcduino3 headless as embedded d…

I'm spending some time on one of those famous Q8 tv boxes (ENY Q8, VSmart Q8, etc...) which sports the rk3288 soc I started with recent u-boot and kernel releases. Rockchip provides a recent u-boot (late 2017) and an LTS 4.4 kernel on their rockchip-linux github account. I compiled u-boot (from here) using a the device tree source from DengueTim (available here, in arch/arm/boot/dts/rk3288-q8.dts). I had to enable the serial driver though, because the device tree is "kernel flavour", instead u-boot wanted explicitly the serial port in "chosen" section. Compilation goes fine and u-boot boots from the SD card, prints Model, Ram and MMC infos on …

Hello everyone, new ARM user here, but long-time GNU/Linux user for about 25 years. I'm trying to install a (preferably debian based) distribution on a newly acquired ARM laptop, a Samsung "galaxy S book" model SM-W767V - this machine is based on qcom's "Snapdragon 8cx" SoC. When i try to boot a generic image (assuming the BIOS/UEFI lists it in the boot menu) it either freezes or reboots at a specific point during the boot process. Where it crashes is always consistent for a specific image, but can differ across different images. The Armbian ones make it past the bootloader and crash at some point during the kernel boot. Has anyone had …

Greetings! My first foray into Armbian. Apparently the Link Star H68K is hardware equivalent to the Hinlink H68K. I'm trying to install one of the community supported Armbian images (Debian Trixie, Ubuntu 26.04) for the Hinlink onto a Link Star H68K, using the RKDevTool from the Seeed Studio wiki. And failing. The only image that loads into RKDevTool is the Lubuntu 20.04 from the Seeed Studio wiki. It's just a tad out of date. Any pointers on getting a more up-to-date OS installed would be most welcome. AFAIK my device is OG, not V2. I've also tried booting from TF card, but the device refuses to boot at all wit…

Good afternoon! Who started Armbian on Sunvell R69? I ran it with the settings of beelinkx2.bin. There is no Wi-Fi and the processor heats very much, more than 77. Hello all! Not sure if anyone saw this at all or not but the latest debian (11) now includes the panfrost and lima drivers! https://wiki.debian.org/PanfrostLima If I'm reading things correctly the needed bits and pieces (as well as a recent kernel) are in the packages "libglx-mesa0" and "libgl1-mesa-dri". Thought I would give this a go on a now (somewhat old-ish) Odroid XU4 device. It uses the mali t620 graphics chipset which I believe is in those panfrost drivers. I used the image file "Armbian_21.08.1_Odroidxu4_bullseye_current_5.4.142.img.xz". I did notice that the older kernel in that image (5.4.x) did not seem to detect anythi…

Hello, I have recently setup Armbian on my Orange Pi Zero 2W for a project I am working on. Everything works great so far but one thing I have noticed is that permissions feel much reduced to my user account. I require sudo to do basically everything from create a file in the home folder to use apt. This feels very different from the feel of the Raspbian install on like a Raspberry Pi. Is there any way I can change the user permissions so I won't have to use sudo for everything? Its been a bigger problem for a project I'm using Clion for where files are synced between my laptop to the pi using SFTP and Rsync but I constantly get errors about unable to create o…

It looks like the port 22 is not opened, or any other ports, depending on the nmap command I use: $ nmap -sS -O -PI -PT 192.168.0.15 Starting Nmap 7.50 ( https://nmap.org ) at 2018-06-01 07:33 ope Note: Host seems down. I have setup an Orange Pi Zero with the latest Armbian Stretch to use as an Open Media Vault server and a Pi-Hole (with the Pi-Hole being used as a DHCP server). I installed both from the armbian-config software menu with no problems. However these days I've been getting at random times a very strange issue. I have my Orange Pi Zero set with a static IP address since I am using the Pi-Hole software as a DHCP server for my home network, the problem is that at what seems like at random times it gets a different IP address without me touching anything, the IP is something in the style of 2XX.XXX.XXX.XXX instead of 192.168.1.20 that I have set as static from armbi…

Hi all, I have a Rock64 running on the "official" image (at the time, according to the official Pine64 documentation) "Armbian Ubuntu Bionic XFCE Desktop". Recently I updated it but suddenly it stopped working. After rebooting, all the 3 LEDs were lit, ON all the time and that was about it. I thought it was some kind of SD card corruption because it couldn't load some files from the SD card after the update and before rebooting. The only thing that came to mind to fix this was to restore a backup I had from Dec 2020. So I restored it and it worked again! But guess what... after updating the 280 packages that had an update, it stopped working again. But this time it w…

Hello, I was running Armbian on my cubietruck, I believe Bionic Ubuntu. I wanted to upgrade to latest kernel, so I did a - apt-get update - apt-get upgrade - ambian-config and selected the lastest kernel And that was it. When rebooting, I end up with a try to contact a tftp server. The cubietruck has an SDCard and an SSD. Is there an easy fix or do I need to reinstall it completely, please? If I need to reinstall, do I have to backup all data, or is existing data preserved? (Traccar installation) Regards, Tomte

I just installed armbian buster on my NAS (odroid HC2). Everything works perfectly. However, as debian bullseye has become stable and I expect this to happen for armbian also in the near future, I am thinking about how to do the upgrade. This is mainly because all my other boxes run bullseye and administration becomes a lot easier if all systems run the same version. In addition, I will have to do the update anyways at some point in time and therefor I want do it when armbian bullseye becomes stable. Reading through the forum I found out it is not supported. However, I am using debian now since woody and have done a lot of upgrades since then, I th…

Hi! just want to share the experience. I'm using Armbian in an environment that cannot access the internet. So, NTP becomes a big issue, and I have to setup my local NTP server using Chrony. Things should be simple, but it just didn't work out. I stuck with this problem for a few weeks until I realized I'm trying to setup Chrony NTP server on a virtual machine. Then, I found this one on stackoverflow. https://serverfault.com/questions/1062023/the-least-bad-settings-for-chrony-as-the-ntp-server-on-a-virtual-machine It suggests how to setup NTP server on virtual machine, but I didn't follow through as I solved my problem by setting up Chrony NTP ser…

Hi guys, the history before: I ordered 2x OrangePi3 and got them at 29/07/2019. The 1st one I've unpacked could not be flashed to another Operating System. Neither the images of the developer worked nor the armbian. I figured out, that the HDMI port and the SD card reader is buggy at that 1st device. Today I unpacked the 2nd OrangePI3 and armbian booted easily and rapidly into the SD card OS. I was able to flash the eMMC with armbian and I am happy, but not with the 1st one of OPI3. I hope that the manufacturer in china will exchange the buggy OPI3 for a working other one. To cut a long story short, the a…

I'm running Armbian Cli 23.02.2 Jammy with Linux 6.1.11-meson64 on my OdroidC4, I'd like to be able to boot from a USB3.0 SSD, (I'm aware that this board doesn't have SPI flash memory, so you should sacrifice a micro SD to host the system boot) When I run armbian-config and go to the option to "boot from SD - systemd on SATA, USB or NVMe" the process seems to complete all the steps without difficulty, at the end the process asks to reboot, the problem starts here, at perform the reboot the system never boots, it stays in a loop, the SSD flashes led light as if it had activity, the same my odroid c4 flashes blue led light in a loop, but the system never appears by ssh. …

Hi there. Is there any way to set hostname of freshly installed board with armbian-config not in menu, but from command line ? armbian-config --help gives some examples, but not for this case. And more generic question -- when I "burn" microSD image, first boot comes with questions about root password, new user, etc. Is there a way to do it in unattended mode ? E.g. with ansible. Thanks a lot in advance!

There is a bug (not really a bug...) in the copy process with rsync. Please add the -x option to rsync to copy the root file system to a SATA/USB drive. I have cifs/nfs filesystem from my main (file) server mounted and the installation tries to copy alle the network-drives to the local SATA/USB drive. I was wondering, why the hell the armbian-config says 1020MB to copy (around 3 min.) and after 1 hour it still was running rsync! Yes, it tried to copy hundreds of GB to the local 60GB SATA/USB drive! And... the script removes all extra fstab entries, so all network filesystem mounts are gone! Please, correct this bug!
