Hello, I was able to complete custom (with USB gadget support) build of current Armbian version (5.17) for desktop using tip about workaround for u-boot compiling problem. But when I run h3disp in order to allow DVI monitor connection (-d), after the restart I still get no output to DVI monitor, while remote Putty connection works. I understand that this is version-in-development, but is there any way to fix (workaround) the problem?

Hi Experts, I am using Readily available MFRC522 NFC reader board. It works fine on Raspberry Pi but we are not able to read card on Orange Pi Zero. I followed steps in the below posts. Both are same and person posted confirmed that it works for him https://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/617-wip-orange-pi-one-support-for-the-upcoming-orange-pi-one/page-9#entry5747 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/41350031/dual-rc522-on-orange-pi Person who published the post says that he tested on 5.04 and I am using image Armbian_5.24_Orangepizero_Debian_jessie_3.4.113.img We have checked wiring again and again and wiring looks all OK. read.py runs but when card is …

Dear all, I occasionally have a full /var/log at startup on various boards, probably because the logs are not rotated /vaccuumd at boot (we had a thread about this in the old opi1 forum). The rotating /vaccuum is currently done every 15 minutes, so I figured why not do it directly at boot as well? For this purpose I updated /etc/cron.d/armbian-truncate-logs with an extra @reboot line: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin */15 * …

Hello, Interested in replacing virtualbox as a VM host, "docker" tool seems to be able to run on Debian/Ubuntu/other linux distro/MacOS/Windows (as they claim) My test: 1/ Installing docker on my amd64 4-cores Ubuntu 14.04 (too much tweaking to run "armbian" properly) see doc here also I have been using "Create a Docker group" and don't forget to run "Hello World" test 2/ To create a new container with Ubuntu 14.04 (if you have added docker group to your non-privileged user, if not use "sudo") $ docker run --privileged -i -t ubuntu:14.04 /bin/bash "privileged" is needed for /dev/loop operations, if not the container cannot see the loop d…

Issue identified by Hardkernel folks with ODROID XU4 and 4.9 kernel: 'When a bunch of sequential data(inode) is being sent to the UAS driver, the UAS driver is increasing the DMA block memory allocation dynamically for more efficient ring-buffer management. But the Kernel coherent-pool memory size was limited at 256KB by default and it was not sufficient for the UAS drivers.' I added this as a temporary workaround to my OMV installation routine but would like to see this fixed on normal installations and also all affected boards too. I've to admit that I neither know how to determine coherent-pool memory size nor what potential downsides of increasing this are…

We would like to thanks all of those who participated in our small contest. Great submission! It was really hard to make a cherry pick, while the winner will be chosen by the vote. Since we only need one default wallpaper and that one must be as generic and clean as possible, this choice is as follows. Few others, which might come into action, had either too small text size, strange colors or were simply too busy. We might will add more than those five wallpapers to our desktop or use them as a boot splash. Vote will be online until 16.12. 1. I'm struggling with XU4/HC1 and the try to have the rootfs on a connected USB disk. All attempts end up with: Gave up waiting for root file system device. Common problems: - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline) - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?) - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev) ALERT! /dev/sda1 does not exist. Dropping to a shell! Rebooting automatically due to panic= boot argument I tried USB disks on USB3 and USB2 ports, according to leds and spin-up sound the SSDs/HDDs get power but device doesn't show up. I remember vaguely that we had such issues on other platforms where it was just a small missing bit in kernel config. But I …

Hello, for quite some time I have noticed that it seems impossible to build just the kernel, an image is built every time. I am using the following command: ./compile.sh BOARD=odroidxu4 BRANCH=current RELEASE=bullseye BUILD_MINIMAL=yes BUILD_DESKTOP=no BUILD_ONLY="kernel" KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no USE_CCACHE=no KEEP_KERNEL_CONFIG=no DEB_COMPRESS=xz Additionally, output/debs seems not to be cleaned, despite documentation indicating this should happen with default CLEAN_LEVEL. Am I doing something wrong? Or does documentation need updating? Thanks!

Hello community, I have just been successful building my own image of Ubuntu focal + preempt_rt (kernel 5.15.76-rt53) for my Rock64 board for the first time (a bit of additional background at the end of my post). Exciting! I had a few hiccups along the way, and I need to figure out a few more things. So far I'm happy and impressed with the project. However, given I want to share my work (and the resulting image(s)) I would like to ask for some pointers on what is the best way to go in regards of forking armbian/build and the changes I found myself doing. I have added my kernel compilation flags to config/kernel/linux-rockchip64-curre…

Hi Armbians, (If this question is already asked/answered please help me find the link.) I need the "ceph" and "rbd" kernel modules for my orange and banana pi. I am starting with the most recent images released: Armbian_4.5_xxxx_Debian_jessie_4.2.3. What are the minimum required steps to build the additional kernel modules? Where is the source tree for that kernel build (4.3.3-sunxi)? I would prefer to build directly on the PI (as opposed to x-compile) but either is ok. I tried a few things, including git clone of Igors "lib" project with build scripts. Runnig that pulled a kernel source tree: "sources/linux-vanilla/v4.3.3" which I am able to use to…

Hi all! I need to back to an older kernel version that I had used past year. In my PC, I conserve without any kind of changes, the working directory used to run compile.sh. If I did not missunderstood my Armbian documentation reading, there is an option to tell compilation process that don't try to upgrade sources files before compile (touch .ignore_changes). Am I right? And, if it's fine, Could somebody please explain me where and how must I apply these parameter? Thanks in advances! Edit: You could ask. Why he want to re-compile if he has past_year.img file? The reason is I need to include kernel headers nad my old compila…

Hello, I'm using the armbian trusty image with legacy kernel and try to setup an iscsi target server with it. Actually I tried to build my own kernel with the instruction list and the tools of armbian and activated the iscsi target in the kernel configure. In compile.sh I set kernel configure to yes and then I start compiling. Maybe you can tell me how to do it in the right way? Thanks and greetings

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my Cubietruck that I was able to partly debug now, but I really like to have input from those who know more about this setup. On my Cubietruck (trusty, kernel 4.6.5-sunxi), I have a 120GB SSD (no-name brand) and added an ext4 partition and corresponding fstab line to mount it. Booting and mounting this partition works well when I cold start my system, and had powered it off before for a while. But when I do a warm start (sudo reboot), the system hangs on boot, quite reliably (it seems to occasionally work, though). I changed my kernel command line and added 'init=/bin/sh', started a 2nd bash terminal before replacing …

Kernel 5.3.y has just been labelled as EOL which was anyway expected to happen soon and most of our "current" kernels are already at 5.4.y ... Is sunxi/sunx64 ready for this upgrade? Don't care about 5.5.y at this moment which means DEV branch can remain as is or if someone out of the regulars take it further.

Hi all, I'am looking at creating a single unified H3 DietPi image (currently using ARMbian build tools), rather than one for each board. Would allow us to support all H3 devices, reduce work load and simplify DietPi source code. Basically I need to know if its possible, and which unique files/configurations would need changing to achieve it. The end goal: The user would download the H3 image, modify it for their board (eg: copy and paste job on /boot), prior to powering on. Some questions: Is script.bin the only unique configuration across all H3 boards? Aside from any additional linux stuff, like hardware items (eg: + onboard BT/WiFi) Does /usr/lib/linux-u…

I've build an dev image for my OrangePi 2 (kernel 4.10) to try mainline kernel and got into troubles with onboard wifi. Hi All, I have looked at the "How to build your own image/kernel post", but am wondering what the best way for me is to contribute. Basically, I often use the pine64 running armbian as an IoT control hub/gateway where it is running an install of nginx/php/mysql/mosquito/nodered. The php part is mostly because of phpmyadmin, so nginx comes in that case configured with node-red mounted on / and phpmyadmin on /phpmyadmin. I could create my own image with all this stuff on it, and also configure some default usernames, passwords and wifi setup, but I also noticed the "Software" section in armbian-config. So my question is which of these 3 options would b…

Hello, Just returning after a little while, I cannot get ethernet working on my opi+2e with mainline kernel, direct cable connection to PC, no serial console at hand, neither HDMI output, so I had the habit of blindly booting then sshing into the box... I want to have a "dual boot" system with Openelec for video and Armbian for the rest :-) The boot files are named different except 'boot.scr'. So the idea is to rename it, so the right one is used and then do a reboot. Not the PC dual boot with a menu, but good enough for me :-D So I copied the files from the /boot folder to an existing FAT partition and copied the rest to a newly created ext4 partition (mmcblk0p3). This is currently a dkms module that requires beta repos to get matching kernel headers.

Hello, I've finally gotten around to writing the GitHub Actions based Linux Kernel Shallow git trees exporter. It's very simple, a single shell script and GHA workflow. It prepares shallow bundle (and ready-to-go .tar too) everyday on a schedule and publishes to GitHub Releases. Please take a look https://github.com/rpardini/armbian-git-shallow - theres a README that shows how to use the bundles outside of Armbian. If this is a good idea, I'd move it to armbian/kernel-git-shallow in GitHub. And then I'd start using those in armbian-next first as a test ground. I mention I few people I know are interested in the subject @Igor and…

I'm curious as to why we explicitly specify CPUMIN and CPUMAX values in the Armbian board configs, for most/all boards... These values of course propagate their way into the MIN_SPEED and MAX_SPEED settings in the target /etc/default/cpufrequtils configuration file (e.g., see lib/makeboarddeb.sh). If these values aren't specified, then the cpufreq driver will base its speed ranges on what the underlying H/W supports (e.g., specified via the board DT(s)). So...if the underlying driver configuration provides the supported speed range, then we actually need to specify these values? I ask because I'm running my H5 boards with my overlays t…

I'm trying to compile the tv.ko driver for the NanoPi M1 (to see if I can bake overscan compensation into it). First I compiled the whole of Armbian to see if I can produce the .ko in such a roundabout way, but besides being a very dumb/slow way of going about it, I can't find any file called "tv.ko" after running all of that (it probably gets cleaned up). Short of mounting the generated Armbian image manually and extracting tv.ko, is there a way to compile just the driver? It normally sits at: /lib/modules/3.4.112-sun8i/kernel/drivers/video/sunxi/disp2/tv/tv.ko And sources for it are under: sources/linux-sun8i/sun8i/drivers/video/sunxi/disp2/tv/ The modin…

Simple library for 128x64. Works fine with SH1106 1.3" OLED and OrangePi Zero (4.9 kernel). You just need to activate I2C interface by replacing "disabled" with "okay" in device tree file (or in the fex). Connect display and test with "sudo i2cdetect -y 0" (or 1). If your display has 3d address instead 3c, change OLED_I2C_ADDR parameter it in the oled.h. Enter "make" to compile and run demo with "sudo ./oled_demo /dev/i2c-0". This library was written by Sonal Pinto for Arduino and ported to Linux by Vladimir Komendantskiy. I just wrote functions for text drawing and add three little fonts. This library only can draw text at X Y with specified font and draw cu…

Hi to all Armbian Devs, According to my local experience done today with newly Ayufan's 4.20.0 tag done this morning, it seems to be quite ready ... I installed the linux-image-dev-sunxi64 and linux-dtb-dev-sunxi64 packages, which pulls in the 5.1.5 kernel, and it seems something is amiss in the pinebook dtb. On the 4.19 kernel, pwm-backlight powers on, and you get video output, however, on 5.1.5 once u-boot loads the kernel and it is starting, video output goes away. In the 4.19 kernel, the kern.log shows the following output during boot: May 29 19:15:10 localhost kernel: [ 3.937999] EXT4-fs (mmcblk0p1): mounted filesystem with writeback data mode. Hi, On the main site: https://www.armbian.com/ it says only 60 days to go for the next release :-) Well, to have a good user experience and squash bugs I think we should do a feature-freeze from about day 50 onwards - what is your take on that ? To do so, I was thinking about how you could handle this period on Github. Will “pull request’s” after feature-freeze be tagged for later integration? Everybody is welcome in squashing bugs (only the ones in code) eg. updating or adding configuration file for armbianmonitor ? eg. updating or adding information to the documentation ? Last but not least, if you can help with s…

Good morning all, how are you?. I'm looking for help on knowing about the buffer strength on an H3 board, I've been looking on the H3 SoC datasheet and found this about GPIO's: Buffer Strength defines drive strength of the associated output buffer. but I don't know if the buffer is the entire port or not because I can't find any other reference to it and I don't want to fry the board. Can anyone explain me this?. Thanks in advance dor the help.

Hi guys, Given the not so great durability of SD cards (and limited storage...I try to keep everything on NFS mounts, but there's always some log that decides to randomly fill the SD card full of crap), and the incapability of run properly docker (it runs, but it NEEDS to use damn local storage, and won't take an NFS mount for some reason...it gets full real quick), I was considering to boot to a iSCSI target. This would let me expand storage anytime I need, plus it would make backup and snapshots a piece of cake. Is there a way to do this?

Hello, before even thinking about arranging a CSC board bring up pull request to armbian, I would be pleased to know if it sensible to do that for a TV Box which is not sold anymore but still quite powerful because of its rk3288 SoC. I made my own fork of armbian (see here). I tried to do things the most tidy way, following the best practices learnt from the documentation. The box has very good support now, but requires some initial setup to clean the eMMC. Also I made some customizations to kernel configs which, I guess, should be moved away (mali driver compiled by default, devfreq support, brcmfmac driver for AP6330 wifi, maybe other things...) …

Hi, After 2 tests with recent images (5.77) with debian stretch for s912 (balbes ilmages) and dev image for pineh64, I get the same issue when configuring locales. I selected fr_FR.UTF-8 in armbian-config and I also ran manually dpkg-reconfigure locales and locale-gen, but I ended each time to default locales settings (ANSI_X3.4-1968). Only the LANG variable is set to fr_FR.UTF-8 and all LC_XXX variables are set to C. To solve this issue, I have modified manually the /etc/environment to set LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8. Does anybody else have this issue and is it specific to debian? With a 5.75 stretch image the locale configuration worked well.

I have Armbian Jessie running on a Orange Pi Lite board and the login script is showing the local loopback ip (127.0.0.1). It appears to be doing this because /etc/update-motd.d/30-sysinfo calls ifconfig -a and pulls the first ip, which in this particular case, is the local loopback. For the orangepi-lite, i wrote the following command in customize_image.sh and it fixes the problem in this case. sudo sed -i "s/ifconfig -a/ifconfig wlan0/g" /etc/update-motd.d/30-sysinfo It basically changes the script to pull the ip address from wlan0 instead of whatever one it finds first This could also be called from the command line for the same effect instead of during compilation.…

I believe this question goes to @rpardini as maintainer of patches for Rockchip series in the `build` repo: I'm trying connect camera to Orange Pi 3B (yes, it boots from community support on edge kernels), but spent 2h digging to find no drivers for CSI2 from Rockchip's fork are ported to patches for recent kernels (for example: https://github.com/armbian/linux-rockchip/blob/rk-5.10-rkr6/drivers/phy/rockchip/phy-rockchip-csi2-dphy.c and corresponding device trees to instantiate these drivers). I have Cubieboard2 with Armbian (Jessie, Legacy) and I cannot export any GPIO pin as described here http://linux-sunxi.org/GPIO#Accessing_the_GPIO_pins_through_sysfs_with_mainline_kernel, chapter " Accessing the GPIO pins through sysfs with mainline kernel". I was able to play with GPIO this way on Cubian nicely but since Cubian is more or less dead without much support I moved to Armbian. I am able to export only pins with adress 1 or 2 as these are in the script.bin. I quite suspect that I need to change script.fex from GIT, convert to script.bin and replace original one on my Cubieboard. Am I correct? And next thing is that …

Hi, I have a Cubieboard A80 unused right now, is it possible to build Armbian for this device? It does not seem to be officially supported. Thank you, Terence Haddock

Hi, thanks for the efforts making armbian very well and very stable for all the distributions, I'm running with a Cubieboard 1 and other arm devices.. I don't want to disturb, but I'll be a headache to support or add in repository this old A10 device Mele A1000/A2000? I know that is old chip, but I'm feel nostalgia, because was one of firsts devices supported in linux-sunxi, and Tom Cubie worked at mele, and sell this litlle joys overseas in 2012, and there are a lot of people now that have this devices too. a lot now sure in the dust and is in mainline kernel also. Tom left Mele, and maked Cubieboard 1, this Mele A1000 I think that have the same configurat…

I tried to run the image build process using Docker. At one point it tries to download the Linux tree and due to my slow Internet connection (max 3MB/s) there seems to be a connection reset from Github due to a too long download time (after 9 minutes, simillar times in 2 attempts). ✗ [ ...........](2.57 MB/s) Downloading linux-complete.git.tar 1.68/3.55 GB 47.34% 9m27s └─ sha256:dd18f1227c9bcf8d3a1c1ecd55721323639550c2845750f59168e17a0d0483bd Error: failed to copy content to /armbian/cache/git-bundles/kernel/linux-complete.git.tar.oras.pull.tmp/linux-complet…

Hi, not sure if this problem is related to Armbian, but in my case it occurs only on an Armian system. I have mainline kernel (4.7.x) running on a Banana Pro. wlan is configured as access point and works without any problems. eth0 is configured as client with static IP. The Banana is running 24/7, but the ethernet port is used only sporadically. The switch where eth0 is connected to is powered down most time. The problem is that eth0 forgets its IP configuration after a while, ifconfig then reports no IP address for eth0. I have to login via wlan and then ifdown/ifup eth0, then it works again. After a couple of hours (I dont know exactly how long), the IP is lost again. …

I tried to rebuild the Banana Pi image with kernel 3.19.7 adding the configuration from here to the next config before rebuilding. I get a lot of prompts and I said m for modular or Y for yes to each of them. The tuner still isn't showing up in Tvheadend. I can donate some BTC so you have a test unit to help get this working.

Build on new kernel (5.1), Ubuntu 18.04. No cpufreq information (0 MHz in htop etc.) also means there's no working frequency scaling. Which for Allwinner H2+ (Banana Pi M2 Zero) means quick hard-hang due to overheating whenever I compile anything non trivial, unless I point a USB Fan on the CPU (which already got a heatsink). Is there any chance of getting cpufreq and dvfs to work?

Hello, I've got an Orange Pi Zero (Allwinner H2+) and an .img 4GB with OS for it and some custom software in the image. I have source code of this custom software and need to compile its modified version and build/change the .img with my changes, and load it all into the Zero. 7zip opens the .img, I can see that it has Armbian Jessie with legacy kernel. QEmu on Ubuntu coudn't mount the .img, is it possible to emulate the image, or should I modify my software on the device itself? How it could be done? I need some help with development for Zero and an existing .img. Thanks in advance.

Sometimes I get in trouble building a new image. This could be caused by a variety of reasons, e.g an Armbian patch does not work with the latest kernel, a new u-boot version makes trouble or some functionality is broken in the image like the USB and v4.6.1. stuff here: http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/1338-a20-lamobo-r1-kernel-461-usb-issue/ How could I step back to working Armbian main build libraries and a working kernel and stay on both? Will this work? cd lib/ git checkout 2a2e190 # commit form June 1, 2a2e190: Move up to 5.14 since we need to ... cd .. touch .ignore_changes echo "KERNELBRANCH=\"v4.5.6\"" > userpatches/lib.config # add # KERNELT…
