Hi, Igor. I am trying to compile armbian kernel for N6 Max rk3399 box, based on Armbian/Build: https://github.com/armbian/build I met the following issues: 1. The "Current" branch does not boot up the system; 2. The "Legacy" version of rk3399 for overclock patch https://github.com/armbian/build/tree/master/patch/kernel/rk3399-legacy/overclock-rk3399-to-1.5-2.0.patch cannot be integrated in the debs, and the cpu speed is always A53@1.4GHz/A72@1.8GHz; 3. The "Legacy" verion of rockchip64 are A53@1.5GHz/A72@2.2GHz, but wifi does not work; 4. The released debs on apt/armbian,com behave same; 5. Tried to play with the config files but …

Hi, I'm trying to build an image for the Orangepi Zero Plus 2 (H3) using the following instructions: https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/. After putting the produced image onto a microSD card using dd, I put the card into the board, connect the serial and power, and then seems to fail and drops me to the u-boot prompt. Here is the output of the terminal. Hello, I would like to use armbian on a custom board with an arm processor. I' am a beginner and I don't know many things about o.s and board. My questions regards what issues will I have to face? Why I can't just install it like i do with desktop? Why I need to customize it? What things I need to customize? Is O.S customization an "easy" job or it will take months? What are the advantages of starting with armbian instead of starting from ubuntu (xenial)? What are the critical component of a board (what need customization)? Thanks in advance.

Hello there, I'm new to this Forum, so please I been trying to run Kodi as standalone music station with Buster minimal and Kodi 17 on it. This system boots very quick and I've been quite happy when I got kodi starting successfully, but it's very slow. It takes several seconds to switch from one menu item to the next. Hello, I wanted to know if there was a mean, a special technique to test the latest version of armbian on x86_64 architechture. I tried with qemu but I get error messages apparently due to the size of the sectors.

The versioning within Armbian seems to be inconsistent. On a up to date RPi4 The login message states that it is running Armbian 23.11.1: Welcome to Armbian 23.11.1 Jammy with Linux 6.6.18-current-bcm2711 /etc/os-release is listing both 22.04 and 24.2.1: PRETTY_NAME="Armbian 24.2.1 jammy" VERSION_ID="22.04" VERSION="22.04.4 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)" ARMBIAN_PRETTY_NAME="Armbian 24.2.1 jammy" /etc/armbian-release says it is 23.11.1: VERSION=23.11.1 REVISION=23.11.1 So these are three different versions, making it confusing. Any idea what is going on here?

I would love to see a guide on how to create a virtual machine for Armbian which would be great for testing in VMWare Workstation, Player or Virtualbox. It would be similar to the diet pi vm which autoboots into the qemu (I think) for the Raspberry Pi If someone has a rough guide on how to do it I can make something noob friendly. My guess is you need to install qemu, add some repositories and then get it to autoboot using rc.local or something like that. Any resources on how to get started would be much appreciated.

ever since i got to first play with a raspi, i have had a sort of sideproject/goal: to be able to have a desktop i can carry in my pocket. i know that this isn't exactly unique as far as what folks consider something to do with an sbc... but in my case i wasn't thinking about something that could run like, xfce fairly stable... i wanted something vain and flashy with the caveat that i have not yet acquired or even used an rpi4 - or really any board over ~$30 - this dang ol' OPi One+ was the first board where I was able to successfully set up a very fancy desktop (ubuntu + i3wm + compton, with i3 and compton compiled natively) the above image was taken about a …

Hello. I have troubles with the new version from source. The main reason i compile it from source, instead of downloading pre-build images is to enable CMA in kernel config. And now i try to apply some patches like in this last post - Kodi/XBMC on Armbian with hw Accleration possible? . The version i try is CLI Armbian_5.07_Lamobo-r1_Debian_jessie_3.4.111. First there are some errors at the very beginning, then first boot is freezing at recreating SSH keys and after long time some messages for disconnecting and reconnecting USB devices appears and that's all, no reboot. I thought those patches are the problem and try without them, same condition. I have builded image from…

Hello. I am finished Armbian Jammy 22.05 Bulseye edge 5.16.20 gnome desktop on a Rockpi4 (rk3399). When I try to overclock from Armbian-config, it doesn't work. That is, I can enter the application, apply rockchip-rk3399-opp-2ghz.dtbo. Then reboot, go to armbian-config and set a new unlocked CPU clock speed of 2.2Ghz. But instead it is only available up to a maximum of 1.8hz. How can this be fixed? Do I have to create an image from scratch, or maybe there is some trick?

I've installed a pristine copy of Armbian_5.38_Nanopiair_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.15 onto an SD card, booted up my NanoPi Neo Air successfully. I even managed to get wifi to work, etc. When trying to enable the SPI interface (ls -la /dev/ | grep -i spi returns no devices) I ran sudo armbian-config which suddenly started to flash my eMMC. The strange thing is that my keyboard seems to be just fine, no other application on my machine is "typing automatically". The screen during the flash is also seemingly broken. Did anyone experience the same? Thanks. (Is there another way to enable SPI without the armbian-config utility if i…

I think we should do exactly the opposite. As soon as the author realizes that his codebase has begun to create stable images for the family\branch, he can invite the most active members of this group to test and fix bugs. That is, errors, changes must be made in this branch. While the master should remain stable and not create problems for the current work.

I recently installed Armbian Jammy on my Hardkernel Odroid-HC1. By monitoring the storage usage through SNMP, I quickly realised that something was filling up the /var/log mountpoint at an alarming rate (40 % usage after three weeks). At a closer inspection, it turned out to be the sysstat logs. Even though sysstat was set (out of the box) to only keep 7 days of history, I could see files that were several weeks old. Having looked into the way that logs are synced to disc (or to the SD card rather), then rotated and synced back every night, it seems that the armbian-ramlog script is rather broken. It will move all of the sysstat logs, then expect the logrotati…

Hi all, has anyone ever tried to use an atomic firmware upgrade system like rauc or swupdate? https://rauc.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ https://sbabic.github.io/swupdate/swupdate.html I am playing with rauc, in order to do that I have to customize the partitioning of the SD/eMMC: - root1 (4GB) - root2 (4GB) - data (8GB, or remaining space) Can someone suggest how to customize partitioning in such way? I played around setting USE_HOOK_FOR_PARTITION=yes, and hooking the create_partition_table but had no luck. Any hint? Thanks in advance! Andrea

The problem: I want to run my Banana Pi M2 Zero from a battery / powerbank setup. It works like a charm from a beefy powerbank capable of consistent 2A output [1], even with added 5" LCD screen to power at the same time and wireless keyboard transmitter. BUT it does hang up hard, I guess due to undervoltage, when powered from a smaller, weaker powerbank with a single 18650 cell and max output of about 500mA (theoretically 1A but let's underestimate, I'll try to measure it with an oscilloscope). Armbian with 4.19 kernel and Ubuntu 18.04 (but booting in text mode, without any GUI). The hangup occurs during services startup, usually around networ…

This isn't specific to armbian, I guess. I am not sure if the mainline linux kernel supports USB peripheral/OTG on Banana Pi M2. Armbian doesn't list anything in /sys/class/udc , so I assume it isn't. In the v3.3 kernel released by Sinovoip, there is a dedicated option in the menuconfig for sunxi_usb. I am not sure where to look in the mainline kernel. Anybody has a better idea about this? Thank you.

Hi All, I have looked at the "How to build your own image/kernel post", but am wondering what the best way for me is to contribute. Basically, I often use the pine64 running armbian as an IoT control hub/gateway where it is running an install of nginx/php/mysql/mosquito/nodered. The php part is mostly because of phpmyadmin, so nginx comes in that case configured with node-red mounted on / and phpmyadmin on /phpmyadmin. I could create my own image with all this stuff on it, and also configure some default usernames, passwords and wifi setup, but I also noticed the "Software" section in armbian-config. So my question is which of these 3 options would b…

Hello, I am testing vendor kernel + Ubuntu 24.04 on my board and found an issue with the Bluetooth desktop application. The Bluetooth adapter itself works normally. After enabling Bluetooth from the desktop UI, hciconfig -a shows the Bluetooth device correctly. However, when I click the Bluetooth device in the Blueman interface to open the device window, the Blueman window becomes stuck and stops responding. The strange thing is that if I restart Blueman manually using: killall blueman-manager export DISPLAY=:0 blueman-manager the Bluetooth manager window opens normally, and device scannin…

Hello, I've made patch that should autodetect A20-OLinuXino variant. Currently supported boards by this patch are: A20-OLinuXino-Lime A20-OLinuXino-Lime2 A20-OLinuXino-Micro With their own modifications the count is 14 different configurations. Why this is possible: All boards uses the same DDR freq - 384MHz. The routing is almost the same All the boards have small EEPROM capable of storing the configuration Major differences between the boards includes: 5 different ethernet PHYs Different pins used for USB phys Different pins used for MMC card detect Different p…

Armbians board support philosophy leads sometimes to frustration. Cause this topic came up from time to time in various threads. The aim of this thread is to summarize all those discussions and have them 'in one thread'. Current situation: There's no strict rule what is needed for getting 'armbian support' neither to drop support for a specific board. 49 boards are supported, 8 are WIP and 13 are deprecated. Supported SoCs: i.MX6, A20, A33, A64, H2+/H3, H5, ARMADA 388, RK3288, S805, S905x, Exynos 5422, WIP SoCs: ARMADA 3720, RK3328, S5P6818, S905, Opinions: I'm sure, I don't catch all opinions here, but instead of merging from various …

I want to have a "dual boot" system with Openelec for video and Armbian for the rest :-) The boot files are named different except 'boot.scr'. So the idea is to rename it, so the right one is used and then do a reboot. Not the PC dual boot with a menu, but good enough for me :-D So I copied the files from the /boot folder to an existing FAT partition and copied the rest to a newly created ext4 partition (mmcblk0p3). I modified 'boot.scr' to this: gpio set PL10 gpio set PG11 setenv machid 1029 setenv bootm_boot_mode nonsec if fatload mmc 0 0x00000000 /boot/.verbose then setenv verbosity 7 else setenv verbosity 1 fi setenv bootargs "console=tty1 r…

I customized my Armbian install with 2 operating systems on two partitions. In armbianEnv.txt I use rootdev to specify the default partition. I would like to set it so that if booting from the default rootdev fails (triggering panic or root-wait, etc.), it will instead try to boot with rootdev/root set to the other partition. Is that possible?

I was doing some testing today on aml-s9xx-box builds and noticed that with meson64-current (6.0.13) kernels the boot logo is showing, but with meson64-edge (6.1.0) kernels it does not. I know there was a recent commit that probably is causing this, something about removing the old way of handling boot logos. So my question is, what needs to change to convert to the new way? I suspect it has something to do with the append line that the build process is inserting into the extlinux.conf file: append root=UUID=0ffde9aa-5a6a-4d6f-bbef-0d8daf439537 rw no_console_suspend c onsoleblank=0 fsck.fix=yes fsck.repair=yes net.ifnames=0 bo…

Hi All, I have a requirement to boot a whole a20 system over USB as discussed in the link below. http://linux-sunxi.org/FEL/USBBoot#Boot_the_system_over_USB It requires U-Boot + kernel + initramfs to do this. Right now the only part that I succeed is booting on uboot, but not yet in kernel as well as initramfs (which is I dont have yet). I cant find a good tutorial how to do this. Hope someone can help. Good morning I have a BPI M1 and M1+ currently running an image from https://banana-pi.org/. Everything works, except it's Ubuntu 16.04. Since yesterday, I've been testing the Armbian images, which are great and up-to-date, but none of them recognize the SATA connection on my SSD. ` fdisk -l ` shows no SATA SSD. Since I absolutely need this connection, I'm stuck. What am I doing wrong, or where do I need to activate the SATA connection? The SATA connection is what makes the BPI M1+ unique. With Ubuntu 16.04, the SATA connection is recognized with both SSD and HDD on the BPI M3. Can someone please help me? I'm completely lost. Regar…

I know this is not the correct area (I have no permissions to post there) but i'm looking to add some basic support for Odroid N2 (and a mainline linux kernel) which others can help utilise for development purposes. The old Odroid C2 way of things with uboot might some back for a bit as much as I would like it or not. I would like to use a CI service to build Armbian images, ideally BitBucket pipelines since that is where most of my projects are. Has anyone had any success doing something similar? I thought it would be easy since docker based builds are supported, but it seems the supported technique is to run a command on the host that starts a separate docker container. Most CI build now are already running in a container and while I think running docker inside docker is possible, I have not been able to get that to work well in the past.

I am coming from a yocto build for a dev board. I had to make u-boot patches, kernel config changes, and custom DTS tree. I'm trying to adapt this to Armbian, one step at a time. I started with building am image for sk-am62b.conf. I did not expect u-boot to boot from correctly. I was glad to see console messages, but expectedly, u-boot didn't continue. I made a new board config for this, duplicating sk-am62b.conf, but changing a critical line I made to get this to work previously. I've also installed the Armbian Linux edge headers 6.6.0-rc1-edge-rockchip-rk3588 (linux-headers-edge-rockchip-rk3588 23.11.0-trunk.107). I am able to compile externel kernel modules. I would like to get the kernel source for the 6.6.rc1 kernel. I have cloned the main branch using: git clone --branch=main https://github.com/armbian/build And used the menu system by running compile.sh to select orangepi5 and other options. When it started building I could tell right away it was not working towards the 6.6.rc1 kernel…

Namely the Network Manager. I recently just made a Debian Stretch Image for the ROC-RK3328-CC (Renegade) with the help of this and I would like to know for future reference, how to omit and add software to the final build. The build seemed to go fine and working like a charm, but Network Manager just gives me a headache and every now again doesn't come up during boot. Be real nice if I didn't have to depend on it or remove it after the fact, every time I wanna make a new image. Thanks!

Hi all, I tried to build the kernel on my Ubuntu 15.10 machines which uses gcc 5.2 as default compiler. As mentioned in other threads this did not work. I found out two possible solutions. Apply the following kernel patch Compile the kernel with option -std=gnu98. I therefore changed the kernel makefile. --- a/arch/arm/kernel/return_address.c +++ b/arch/arm/kernel/return_address.c @@ -63,11 +63,6 @@ void *return_address(unsigned int level) #warning "TODO: return_address should use unwind tables" #endif -void *return_address(unsigned int level) -{ - return NULL; -} - #endif /* if defined(CONFIG_FRAME_POINTER) && !defined(CONFIG_ARM_UNWIND) / else…

Dear Community, Currently Im playin with my Banana Pi M2 Berry and therefore I need a fusion of the LATEST Armbian -System with the compilers needed by the Boards Offical "GPIO-Libarys", which are outdated 7years ago. The most important libary would be the RPi.GPIO. RPi.GPIO The problem is, that this libary was using python2 and python3, python2 isnt my future i think, but for compiling the lib with python3 I need some pip-packages and the right arm-gcc compiler = 4.8 i think. DO i may need a cross-compile libary or whats are the requirements to build the lib on the latest system? To avoid hardware-d…

Hi all, I have the clearfog base - Armbian 5.32 works great on it. Now let's say I need to develop an application which uses Boost. I can create a custom user config to install the appropriate packages, but how do I compile against it? rootfs seems to be deleted every time I create an image to be flashed. How can I package my own application into the sd card image? I have done this before with openwrt and their custom packages, but if I could do it in Armbian that would be great.
