  2. Sorry, I know it is a noob question. I want to add something to the "arch/arm64/boot/dts/rockchip/rk3328-roc-cc.dts" file, and tried serval methods to make the patch to build, but no luck: Method1: 1. Directly modify the "arch/arm64/boot/dts/rockchip/rk3328-roc-cc.dts" file 2. Add "CREATE_PATCHES="yes" in $ARMBIAN_BUILD_HOME/build/userpatches/config-example.conf 3. Compile After compiled, I found my modification was not on "arch/arm64/boot/dts/rockchip/rk3328-roc-cc.dts" file. Method2: 1. Command: cd $KERNEL_SOURCE_HOME cp arch/arm64/boot/dts/rockchip/rk3328-roc-cc.dts . 2. Modify ./rk3328-roc-cc.dts 3. Command: …

Hello, I was able to complete custom (with USB gadget support) build of current Armbian version (5.17) for desktop using tip about workaround for u-boot compiling problem. But when I run h3disp in order to allow DVI monitor connection (-d), after the restart I still get no output to DVI monitor, while remote Putty connection works. I understand that this is version-in-development, but is there any way to fix (workaround) the problem?

I get a lot of prompts and I said m for modular or Y for yes to each of them. The tuner still isn't showing up in Tvheadend. I can donate some BTC so you have a test unit to help get this working.

First a very big "Thank you", Igor. You create wonderful images. But now the problem. I want to boot the A20 from an eMMC Flash. I use a HAOYU New MarsBoard A20 Dev Board. The reason: the CM-A10/A20 PCB has a footprint for an eMMC. So the 8GB NAND was removed and replaced by a 2GB eMMC. Then I took the Pecovnik Olimex Lime2 Jessie 3.4.108 image and added the fex file from the MarsBoard SD image. After a fex2bin the MarsBoard bootet from SD0. Life was beautiful. The problems start if I wanted to contact the eMMC. I changed "[nand_para] nand_used" to 0. And I changed "[mmc2_para] sdc_used" to 1. Then the kernel gets in serious problems: <6>[mmc-msg] sdc2 se…

Hello, i was wondering, how Armbian images are different compared to official orangepi images available on their webiste? clearly, orangepi official images are not well maintained or regularly updated, but what's armbian policy here? are official images using proprietary drivers that armbian doesn't? for example, mali450 (on H5) for armbian is not available, is it the same on official images? what the difference? avoiding non-free software?

  47. Some SBCs, such as PIneA64, provide a built-in RTC on-board while others do not. For those boards that do have a built-in RTC, it appears the kernel driver is configured as a builtin rather than as a module at least in some cases (I only checked a few). This in turn brings up a question: For boards that include a built-in RTC and also have the respective kernel driver configured as a built-in, should the kernel configuration to also set the system clock from that RTC (RTC_HCTOSYS) be enabled by default? There is a dependency that the RTC be built-in as the kernel will try to read from the RTC rather early, before any loadable modules w…

I just set up a ubuntu/bionic64 VirtualBox through Vagrant using https://github.com/armbian/build Currently, I don't want to build entire image or kernel from scratch but I noticed that compile.sh and related scripts contain many convenience functions and tools. I already started compile.sh once to let it prepare the virtual machine for cross-compile tasks and it successfully installed all the dependencies. I got especially interested in extras-buildpkgs folder. As I understand, I can put my own package d…

  51. Hallo, the Armbian Debian jessie dhclient does not handle a served hostname reliable. Deleting /etc/hostname (or replacing it with an empty file) and setting the hostname option at the DHCP Server doesn't always work. In some cases the Armbian client still has its default name 'bananapim2'. http://blog.schlomo.schapiro.org/2013/11/setting-hostname-from-dhcp-in-debian.html describes the problem, a cause and a solution. I can confirm the problem with the leases file. Following step 2 works for me. It would be really fine if the unset_old_hostname file could be added to Armbian by default. Kind regards, Steve

You can patch against legacy kernel 3.4.111 and give users a chance to get their device recognized. Sorry, i can't couple with the automated armbian process yet, i usually do the things manually. I hope this can be useful (and hopefully works for someone). clone here: https://github.com/avafinger/rtl2832 @lex

  58. Hello. I'm building an armbian image and want to add some partitions to the result disk. I use the post_create_partitions hook to do that. The box has very good support now, but requires some initial setup to clean the eMMC. 67. On Orange Pi One, Lite and NanoPi M1 we currently have the ability to let VDD_CPUX voltage switch between 1.1V and 1.3V. With our current settings we switch at 912MHz CPU clockspeed from 1.1V to 1.3V. The higher the clockspeed the higher VDD_CPUX (this is the voltage the CPU cores are fed with) has to be to let the SoC work reliable. But on the other hand the higher VDD_CPUX is set the hotter the SoC gets and the earlier throttling will jump in. So knowing at which clockspeed H3 still works reliable at the lowest possible VDD_CPUX voltage (in the case of the aforementioned boards only 1.1V or 1.3V are available) can help with overall performance since throttling gets m…

Hi, I'm wondering if there is any environment variable to enable the compilation and of the mali and nand drivers for orangepipc board. ./compile.sh docker KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no BUILD_DESKTOP=no KERNEL_ONLY=no INSTALL_HEADERS=no BOARD=orangepipc BRANCH=default RELEASE=xenial In the cache folder, I see those drivers at linux-sun8i/sun8i/modules/ Also, there is a script apparently to build those drivers -> linux-sun8i/sun8i/scripts/build_sun8iw8p1.sh I appreciate any help, thank you!

  89. Hello Everyone, I would like to share my experience about how to boot Orange Pi almost silently in console mode (eliminate a lot of kernel messages on startup) without desktop and remove cursor blinking that can cause black rectangle appearing over white background, when painting to framebuffer. Many options that proposed as being able to reduce kernel messages on boot didn't work for me. So based on Armbian documentation I started to experience with armbianEnv.txt file in the /boot folder. The extraargs setting was not part of the default armbianEnv.txt file, but appeared in BOOT.CMD file. The setting extraargs=vt.global_cursor_default=0 quiet sol…

Hi there, I've tried to migrate from my old 16.04 ubuntu build machine to 18.04 regarding the documentation there is no need for extra packages. To get compile.sh running I've added build-essentials, ccache, make & libpython. Now there is a problem with openssl/bio.h. Is there a complete list of packages needed? I've set up my VM using the ubuntu-18.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso image. Is it solely failing by not using the mini.iso? Regards, Sebastian

I have configured to. debian minimal server rootfs and current linux kernel git tree in menuconfig with that command. sudo apt-get -y install git git clone --depth=1 --branch=v24.11 https://github.com/armbian/build cd build/ ./compile.sh ./compile.sh KERNEL_GIT=shallow After bring up, i tried to change existing linux kernel driver to our customized one using userpatches and that worked well. Hi there, I have now finally managed to apply the RT Kernel patch on the Bananapi. (Original Patch here: https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/rt/3.4/patch-3.4.108-rt136.patch.gz) The patch did not work out of the box and I had a bit of hassle to fix all of the rejected bits. To me the Banana Pi is best suited for audio production since it is very affoedable and it already comes with a usable audio out. To get the full benefit of the RT kernel patch it was necessary to thrn also reduce the buffer size of the inbuilt sunxi -codec audio driver. I can now play a synth using a buffer size of 512 samples glitch free. Here are some numbers: ansum@ba…

  97. Hi, I'm trying to compile an Armbian image for OdroidC2 with btrfs rootfs, I created an Ubuntu Xenial container with systemd-nspawn as building environment. Kernel 5.3.y has just been labelled as EOL which was anyway expected to happen soon and most of our "current" kernels are already at 5.4.y ... Is sunxi/sunx64 ready for this upgrade? Don't care about 5.5.y at this moment which means DEV branch can remain as is or if someone out of the regulars take it further.

I have searched all the forums, can't find a way to use compile.sh build a image with the kernel to be 4.9.0 version. Is there a variable some where to set this? the latest 4.9.4 and 4.9.3 are not working well for my nanopi or my orange zero. and yes, i went through all the docs, and tried I can. -jerry

I got an issue from a user on a bash script I am sharing on github. The script is to make shrunk img backups on a running system on a lot of different sbc:s. After some testing on the users side (I did not have access to hardware to test) it turned out the script fails because of the partition table, it is GPT while in the past they have always been MBR (msdos). I downloaded the latest opi5 gnome desktop image and looped it and parted shows it is in GPT. We figured out a way to solve it but my question is: is this because rpi5 uses gpt partition table (I do not own a rpi5 either)? Will this be the future of most armbian builds? …
