  1. Hi there, I have this device left over from a previous project, and now I want to repurpose it for a forked version of PiKVM that is meant for alternate SBC such as the OrangePi. I spent the last 2 days adjusting various build settings and compiling. After installing, the kvmd service would complain about the UDC driver missing. Also executing ls /sys/class/udc/ would return nothing, seemingly indicating that OTG is not possible. Just last night I came across the file "sun50i-h6-orangepi-3-lts.dts" in which there is a comment containing the following: /* * This board doesn't have a controllable VBUS even though it * does hav…

  7. Hi guys, I'm running out of ideas... Following situation, I use since years Armbian Bullseye on the HC2 with a 3,5" HDD, with OMV and Syncthing. Now I replaced the HDD with a SDD, copied and work without issues with the old HC2 board. I have as well a HC1 board here, so ideal solution is, change SD and SSD to the HC1 and my expectation is, should work. For sure the MAC would change, but seems the network connection isn't working at all. At least my expectation is, there should be a new address received via DHCP (setting is DHCP). Did I miss some important Armbian specific settings? Maybe there is something set in first run? Both board run seamless with a new f…

I am trying to complete it for the MKS-Klipad50 (https://www.armbian.com/mks-klipad50). (It's a CSC board, not standard support - if that matters.) Following fields are unclear to me: "Compatible" What is the meaning and expected syntax? Is that something like devices using the same kernel, but different setup/devicetree files? "Expose kernels" / "How many kernels to expose?" Is this related to the "Kernels" table (see below), like how many rows to use? …

  14. 5.0x Lamobo R1 / Banana Pi M2 jessie next 4.4.3 As described in this thread http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/691-banana-pro-testers-wanted-sata-drive-not-working-on-some-boards/?p=5641 /etc/rc.local successfully controls the Banana Pi M2's red, green and blue LEDs and the Lamobo R1's green LED. 16. I have have armbian V25.2.3 installed on a radxa Zero 2w linux kernel 6.12.17-current-meson64. The radxa uses i2c to talk to a PCA9685 which in turn drives three servos in a robot. The issue is that the PCA9685 has two i2c busses, 0 and 1. But the radxa zero has only two i2c busses that can be enabled using armbian-config and they are i2c-3 and - ic2-5. It seems I need to install a new overlay to describe the i2c busses in the device tree. But how do I do that?

The experiment I am trying to do here is to run a simple service on boot (It may do nothing as of now, but should be listed as running when status is checked). Now since, the experiment is simple, I am trying to get some inputs on removing/excluding kernel modules that are not required and also build the image in release mode (not debug mode). Highly appreciate teams help in getting the inputs. Looking forward for the response. Thanks, Kedar

  41. I think I'm finally managing to understand this Armbian build system. It's an amazing piece of work! However, after the build, many source files end up owned by the root user. There's just a lot of activity going on "as root" that probably doesn't need to be run with that privilege. Disaster seems just one build script error away. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a simple way to avoid this (without resorting to virtualization of the build environment). Has this not bothered anyone else?

  47. Hi, I need to modify the kernel to enable the USB networking ability for my network of development boards. (currently 1master & 10servers) we need to use usb connections for networking functionalities. My question: is it possible to modify the linux kernel without compiling a whole image from scratch. We are now developing a network of mashines and are thinking ahead, doing some planning, to reduce our workload in the future and for avoiding the need to reinstall all the OSes on the whole network. Optimally we would never need to reinstall an image /only reboot a mashine and do meaningful changes on the kernel over ssh. Metaphoricallly speaking…

I would like to use a CI service to build Armbian images, ideally BitBucket pipelines since that is where most of my projects are. Has anyone had any success doing something similar? I thought it would be easy since docker based builds are supported, but it seems the supported technique is to run a command on the host that starts a separate docker container. Most CI build now are already running in a container and while I think running docker inside docker is possible, I have not been able to get that to work well in the past.

A small patch addressing some power monitoring related issues: 1. The script was always writing to the "REG 82H: ADC Enable 1" register (on each login). 2. The value being written (0xC3, raising bit 6) was overwriting the old one, wiping out other bits that may have been enabled. On my cubietruck for instance it defaults to 0xFF, not 0x83, so that "i2cset" call was effectively disabling/zeroing the /sys/class/power_supply/ac/current_now thing that I use for calculating and graphing the power usage in munin. 3. Raising that flag (bit 6, Battery current ADC enable) seems irrelevant to the bash.bashrc.custom script, as it doesn't appear to read that curren…

  69. I recently installed Armbian Jammy on my Hardkernel Odroid-HC1. By monitoring the storage usage through SNMP, I quickly realised that something was filling up the /var/log mountpoint at an alarming rate (40 % usage after three weeks). At a closer inspection, it turned out to be the sysstat logs. Even though sysstat was set (out of the box) to only keep 7 days of history, I could see files that were several weeks old. Having looked into the way that logs are synced to disc (or to the SD card rather), then rotated and synced back every night, it seems that the armbian-ramlog script is rather broken. It will move all of the sysstat logs, then expect the logrotati…

Since volatile journald logging is done in-memory in /run/log/journal, and made persistent in /var/log.hdd/journal, the rsync of /var/log/journal in nand-sata-install no longer works because it is a symlink to /var/log.hdd/journal in the live system, and will create a circular symlink when booting from NAND. On the target image /var/log is the folder that is directory-mounted to /var/log.hdd during boot. I propose to exclude /var/log from the rsync, and rsync /var/log.hdd to /var/log on the target image. Another solution could be to exclude only /var/log/journal from the rsync, and create an empty /var/log/journal in the target image. Kind reg…

The standard Armbian build process also includes a copy of the .config file in /boot/config-<version>-<platform>. Are both required, or should the kernel configurations be updated to make Kernel .config support an LKM instead of static bind? True this is a minor item. The actual kernel configuration takes up a very small amount of memory, though on many SBCs with limited memory to start with every byte not used by the kernel can help. 88. Started by Magnets,

I'm using an opi PC with a sandisk ultra 32GB micro SD. I've noticed that if you do a large write to the SD card (i.e. via samba) then the system becomes sluggish. Writing to a USB stick does not have the same effect on system performance. I tried changing the scheduler to CFQ (from noop) and it helped a lot. Has there been any testing on which scheduler is best? I assume noop performance will vary dependant on the SD controller? raspbian uses deadline as the default - https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=64702 Some very good info here: https://www.thomas-krenn.com/de/wiki/Linux_I/O_Scheduler

  89. Lets say I wish to creat three kernels with different timer settings like 100Hz/250Hz/1000Hz. The name of the generated SDcatd image is always the same which is not helpful. When I want to use them later as well for a multiboot scenario, so swtchable kernels, I need as well different names, so it is not only to rename the image files. USing Menuconfig, I could normally put a localization extension to it...when I do this, the image creation process fails as the system looking into wrong folder names. So, is there an alrernative path ? Or is this a bug ?

  90. Finally got a SPI connected DS3234 RTC for my BananaPi working! Main problem was that a patch is needed to get SPI master mode working reliably on A20: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9567833/ @Igor/staff: it would make Armbian even better than it already is if you could apply this patch on all A20 boards Setup: BananaPi (bought back in 2015 so not exactly sure which "flavour" it is, specs are equal to BPI-M1) DS3234 RTC (SparkFun DeadOn RTC Breakout DS3234) Mainline kernel (4.10 currently) Armbian build/devopment (of course ) Note: wiring and base of DTS according to Science Gizmo - Raspberry PI and your SPI Rea…

  92. Hello, Im trying to compile armbian without internet connection in local. For first time, I connected to internet and compiled a minimal image for Orange pi 5 plus successfully. cache folder is 14 GB now. When I cut off internet connection and start ./compile.sh, compile process stucks. See log below. Should we use Mutex to prevent writing on same file / device by 2 or more threads? Any alternate suggestion? Nbird

  94. Dear All, Thank you so much for your efforts for such a nice project. I searched for the forum, but couldn't find a similar topic. I also checked the documentation, but couldn't find about "What are the steps for a new device" ? I have a new Allwinner A64 based SoM + Carrier based system, used for smart home. The board's name is DR47. A samples photo is below: Currently, latest Armbian SOPINE image (which I downloaded from here: https://dl.armbian.com/pine64so/nightly) works perfectly on my board, at least it boots without any errors, and my rtl8152 USB-Ethernet works too. I have studied "Building A…

  95. Started by Moorviper,

As a note I once created a new Branch to create an image with VDR (http://www.tvdr.de). (my first target is to get a full working build for my Cubieboard2 then i try modularize for the other boards) (It need's kernel 3.4.x for vdpau !!!) It's not finished yet because I still have to see whether the FFMpeg version of Debian also works. and some other things greetings Daniel

Hi, I bought the edimax EW-7822ULC usb wifi device (based on rtl8822). I was able to build the driver, install it, and test it (works!). Edimax provides the sources on their site. Is anyone working on incorporating this into Armbian? Steve

  98. Dear Armbian ARM64 6.6.x kernel people: Orange Pi 5 delivers incorrect larger SCTP chunks to SCTP. from lower IP stack in kernel. This can be seen from the computed CRC-32 checksum below. The packet length is right. This CRC-32 checksum process works correctly on OpenSuSE x86_64 Tumbleweed with kernel 6.5.4-1. It also works correctly on Armbian ARM64 5.10.110. Hence we believe the IP code is faulty in the 6.6.x kernel "stable rolling release" from Armbian. This SCTP driver is used in Telecom by companies like Nokia and Ericsson instead of Linux kernel SCTP and we would like to get it working on the OrangePi 5. Shorter packets like the SCT…

  99. # Noble GNOME images ship PulseAudio and PipeWire both enabled — audio deadlocks silently **Board:** Radxa ROCK 5B+ (`rock-5b-plus`, rockchip-rk3588) **Image:** Armbian 26.2.1 stable, Ubuntu 24.04 Noble, **GNOME desktop** (prebuilt release image, not built locally — so there are no build logs) **Now running:** Armbian 26.8.3, kernel 7.1.8-edge-rockchip64 > All outputs below were captured **before** I fixed this machine. It now runs PipeWire only, so it no longer reproduces — a fresh Noble GNOME image should. The attached `armbianmonitor -u` log is a kernel/hardware inventory and does not collect userspace service state, so it won't show the c…

  100. Started by g40,

Apologies if this is a FAQ. I'm trying to diagnose OV5640 camera issues on my NanoPiM1 using the headless xenial distro with the legacy kernel. Is there an accessible version of the compile.sh that built this distro? I'd really prefer to be able to rebuild all on a proper desktop machine ...
