Currently on the latest version of armbian I am experiencing high background internet data usage. I am limited to a 50MB plan which works fine with other devices, but seems to not be enough for more than 10 days on this distro. I have tried disabling all periodic checks for updates, but I am still seeing high data usage. Any ideas on where these might be coming from? I can provide a wireshark PCAP if needed.

  3. Hi! I am new to armbian, would like to ask about its development. Is this distribution quality controlled (by someone in charge), or fully community-organized "as is" ?

  4. I have some patch files, and one of them leads to a .dts file not being compiled. I'd like to find what is wrong with the dtc compilation but I do not know what the exact command the armbian build script runs, so I can't reproduce... Is there a way to make the build totally verbose and see the command being executed ?

  5. I’m currently using the Armbian build system to generate images for the Orange Pi 5 Plus. To use the PREEMPT_RT kernel, I set the BRANCH to current, and with the PREEMPT_RT configuration on the 6.12 kernel I was able to successfully build the image and boot it. However, in this kernel version there are no dtbo files for peripherals like can0, i2c, etc., so I’m unable to use those interfaces. If I set the BRANCH to vendor, I can use the 6.1 kernel, but in order to use a PREEMPT_RT kernel I need to apply the RT patch. The RT patch currently provided is not compatible with the current BRANCH, so kernel build and image creation fail. My question is: wh…

  9. Hallo, the Armbian Debian jessie dhclient does not handle a served hostname reliable. Deleting /etc/hostname (or replacing it with an empty file) and setting the hostname option at the DHCP Server doesn't always work. In some cases the Armbian client still has its default name 'bananapim2'. http://blog.schlomo.schapiro.org/2013/11/setting-hostname-from-dhcp-in-debian.html describes the problem, a cause and a solution. I can confirm the problem with the leases file. Following step 2 works for me. It would be really fine if the unset_old_hostname file could be added to Armbian by default. Kind regards, Steve

Was trying to follow the https://www.armbian.com/participate/ page instructions to get access to Jira, but the link just takes me to Jira and tells me that I don't have access. No option to request access on that page, just "[username] doesn't have access to Jira on armbian.atlassian.net." Does the participate page need updates? Or should I just try to work off of github issues only? Feel free to direct me to the right place if it matters, I would potentially be helping with some nanopi devices, have several r2s and r2s plus - the r2s plus needs some work i think.

Hi! I'm testing the image for cubieboard (A10 SOC) onto my MK 802 II and the legacy kernel is working fine (USB, OGT, WIFI, HDMI...) I just have changed the script.bin I'm reading some documentation about the device trees and I don't understand how you compile the vanilla kernel. Sorry if is a stupid questions but my board has his own .dts (sun4i-a10-mk802ii.dts), how you get a common vanilla kernel valid for all the configurations without using one specific .dts for each board? Probably I'm missing something very basic for ARM kernels, but this is my 1º aproach.

  18. Two Questions: How do I force Armbian/build to rebuild the kernel ? - Is there a `./compiler.sh` flag ? And where does the kernel get cached ? - Is it cached online ? - is it cached on kernel, kernel version, and kernel config hash ? I am trying to get a proper handle on Armbian/build. BTW: There really needs to be a `kernel` tag on Armbian Forum's - `Create New Topic`.

With the battery drained to 0%, the board will not boot up with the LTE module plugged into the USB port even with a microUSB power supply, because LTE is drawing too much power. But with the battery slightly charged or the LTE module unplugged it boots up just fine. I know that USB power is enabled by the u-boot, because with the Armbian SD card ejected, when I plug in the microUSB power supply, the board doesn't automatically provide power to the USB port, and the battery charges by default. I presume that the changes I make end up in an overlay that only is mounted after the boot process. Rewriting the whole 6 GB image, just to change one file, is a bit cumbersome. Is there a way to chan…

But, I haven't seen this fully captured and explained anywhere, and think this would be a useful thing to know for anyone who's doing arm64 development on a PC, which seems very relevant here ... I started pulling this thread when moving some software from Ubuntu Jammy to Noble, where the arm64 build process went from 20 mins to 50 mins. When I was done, it below to 15 min, and all I did was poke some flags for qemu's emulated CPU. The TL;DR version is that setting the environment variable QEMU_CPU to something like "cortex-a53" or "max,pauth-impdef=on" or even what I settled on, "max, pauth=off" saves …

It would be nice for the armbian downloads to have GPG signed SHA256SUMS like Ubuntu. Would it be hard to implement? Because currently the images are distributed in 7z files with a checksum file, nothing currently prevents both from being changed. My bad, I found the guide: https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Getting-Started/

When ./compile.sh command is used to compiling a new Armbian version (especially with some source changes for debugging), in case there was an error during compilation, it can be impossible to find real reason of the problem. Log files located in output/debug folder are not very informative - they just show the last message, which also appears on the screen - failed in script line number . The following command was used to get full log of the compilation process: command | tee -a log.txt Hope this will be useful for somebody else (newbie), who like me spent a lot of time trying to understand, why the compilation failed after some changes in kernel configuration.

I would like to do it myself or detetch some not yet done trigger file. Secondary avoid the forced account creation on first login. I have a bootstrap task which I start by using the external usb media which does all these things and starts my application install process. But to avoid the restarts and apt-get locks the plain image should not do things automatically... example on raspbian my process takes around 15minutes but installs all my required tools.

But it crashed too many times, mostly during simple file editing. Then I found better IDE - CodeLite. When I wanted to debug a program, I found I have to install GDB. After installing and configuring it, the debugging looked to be possible, but every attempt finished with segmentation fault somewhere outside of my program, even before the first statement in main function was reached. After several attempts, I uninstalled and re-installed GDB and this time found recommended additional component - libc6-dbg. Installing this component fixed…

Stumbled across this while working on something else not ARM related, but it's pretty cool - since Armbian is looking at devices that have eMMC, this might be useful https://github.com/pepe2k/u-boot_mod Short story - it's a uBoot with a micro web server that supports flashing images, including uBoot itself - basically it turns things into a bit of a fail-safe as long as uBoot can execute... (those playing with the fire that is uBoot, keep your UART connections handy) Do I have some security concerns - absolutely yes... but no different than the UEFI that is on many x86 boards these days.

I went a step further, trying to use the userpatches/customize-image.sh script. Correct if i am wrong. It's possible to make a generic building process to add new drivers like the media_build does? While building Armbian for my Banana Pi R1 (aka Lamobo R1) [Allwinner A20, sunxi] the build system gave the following warnings originating from the U-Boot project. I think some maintainers and/or experienced users should take a look at the following. ===================== WARNING ====================== This board does not use CONFIG_DM_MMC. Please update the board to use CONFIG_DM_MMC before the v2019.04 release. Failure to update by the deadline may result in board removal. See doc/driver-model/MIGRATION.txt for more info. ==================================================== …

I've installed a pristine copy of Armbian_5.38_Nanopiair_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.15 onto an SD card, booted up my NanoPi Neo Air successfully. I even managed to get wifi to work, etc. When trying to enable the SPI interface (ls -la /dev/ | grep -i spi returns no devices) I ran sudo armbian-config which suddenly started to flash my eMMC. The strange thing is that my keyboard seems to be just fine, no other application on my machine is "typing automatically". The screen during the flash is also seemingly broken. Did anyone experience the same? Thanks. (Is there another way to enable SPI without the armbian-config utility if i…

  94. I want to compile a matching build for: https://armbian.com/boards/odroidhc4 Debian 13trixie Minimal (CLI)—current6.18.33 https://dl.armbian.com/odroidhc4/Trixie_current_minimal Matching the img is fine (rather than the img.xz). I haven't compiled a matching build yet. I am doing this to debug my issue with the stock builds. Running: ./compile.sh BOARD=odroidhc4 BRANCH=current RELEASE=trixie BUILD_MINIMAL=yes BUILD_DESKTOP=no KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no Logs forthcoming.

Hello, I'm using armbian debian Jessie server, kernel 4.6.3 for banana pi m1+. Before, I built device driver with kernel 3.x and was working well, but decided to higher the kernel version because of SPI. (cpu isolation for the thread with SPI communication did not work in kernel 3.x) In the kernel 4.6.3, cpu isolation was working perfectly. When I used bcm2835 library, SPI also worked. However, when I tried to use the same device driver code in the kernel 4.6.3, it just crashed and froze. I had to turn it off and on again to use the pi again. After debugging, I found out that the point of the crash was the method gpio_direction_output(pinNumber, fal…

Hi, on a lime2 the firstrun script hangs as it doesn't seem to have a red or blue LED. So I'd like to propose the following change which shouldn't break anything but add the green one. Unless some vendor adds even more colors. Not sure if the trailing "|| true" is the best solution to make sure the script will never fail? diff --git a/scripts/firstrun b/scripts/firstrun index 760cf0d..2f2b222 100644 --- a/scripts/firstrun +++ b/scripts/firstrun @@ -119,8 +119,8 @@ adjust_sunxi_settings() { sed -i "s/^MAC_ADDR=.*/MAC_ADDR=${MACADDR}/" /etc/default/brcm40183 \ echo -e "\n### [firstrun] Use MAC address ${MACADDR} for Bluetooth from now" >>${Log})…

  98. I was using usb otg(microusb) as host mode in kernel 3.x. I was using this port to connect banana pi to touch&PWR in LCD. With kernel 3.x, there was no problem, but in the kernel 4.x the touch did not work. I was searching about the structure of usb port, and found out that to use micro usb as a host mode, the forth pin(sense) and the fifth pin(GND) should be connected. I checked this had been causing a touch problem by trying soldering the forth and the fifth pin of the usb otg port in banana pi, and the touch worked. Isn't there any way I can handle this situation in software-wise, not by soldering? I had also considered buying a microusb wire which has …

Dear all, I recently perched a SINA33 from SINLINX after a week of test i download the Armbian source code that is very interesting and started to create an Armbian image for this board. I created a csc file to start the building. Spoiler The csc file code: # A33 quad core 1Gb SoC BOARD_NAME="Sina33" BOARDFAMILY="sun8i" BOOTCONFIG="Sinlinx_SinA33_defconfig" MODULES="hci_uart gpio_sunxi rfcomm hidp bonding spi_sun7i 8021q a20_tp" MODULES_NEXT="brcmfmac" OVERLAY_PREFIX="sun8i-a33" KERNEL_TARGET="default,next,dev" The compile is done and the image is created. I flash the image w…

  100. When building a kernel the device driver configuration asks which rtc should a system use for NTP and startup synchronisation . By default this is rtc0. The question is: In case there are more hardware RTCs in one embedded system ( in my case onboard RK808 and Dallas DS1307 over I2C), which one would be numbered as rtc0? Threre are several RTC device drivers available and checked by default, some marked as M and other as '*' , supposing 'module' or 'driver' respectively. Now if I have two hardware RTCs, I presume they should load as rtc0 and rtc1, but which part does numbering? I can't know this 'a priori' , I would like to use DS1307 for synchronisation…
