I was chatting with @tido about ways to help the Armbian community and I came up with the idea of a common C library to access the I2C, SPI and GPIOs of all supported boards. There are of course kernel drivers to communicate with these things, but there are differences between boards that this API could help smooth out. For example, different CPUs (and boards) map the GPIO pins very differently. Projects such as WiringOP and WiringNP try to copy the Raspberry Pi library, but this is also flawed because it's based on the BCM283x GPIO numbering. What I propose is to create a set of simple functions for accessing GPIO pins using the physical pin number as a reference. On all…

The pyA20 gpio library is quite famous when people start to play with gpios , spi or i2c on sunxi boards but mapping needs often adjustments to work on your own board. This situation is not really friendly for 'beginners'. pyGPIO should help to make armbian a little bit more 'IoT friendly'. I didn't touch the 'backbone' of pyA20, so the syntax should be similar to its original (except pinname when using port instead of connector). How can I use this library: Cause all of this boards have (more or less) the same pinheader (sometimes other pins are deployed on the pinheader) pyGPIO tries to unify the mappings, so that code can be shared and deployed …

Edit: User Space IO depracated. Use Java Periphery instead https://github.com/sgjava/java-periphery https://github.com/sgjava/userspaceio After a lot of work and testing I have produced the User Space IO project! It provides Python 3 and Java 8 bindings for Linux user space GPIO, SPI, I2C, PWM and Serial interfaces. This allows cross SBC and cross language development using a common API. I took two best of breed C APIs for Linux user space libgpiod and c-periphery and produced CFFI bindings for Python and JNA bindings for Java. Since all the bindings closely match the C API it's easy to move from language to language. The side effect of using the J…

Access to a console can be mandatory when you SBC doesn't work as expected (e.g Network or HDMI output doesn't work). When SSH/Display access isn't possible access to console via UART is the best way to get a clue where your SBC hangs. This short tutorial should give you an introduction how this works. For some boards, armbian implements an USB gadget mode (a 'fake' serial console over microUSB) describen below. As a reminder an USB-UART bridge is always prefered over USB gadget mode whenever possible (UART get's initialized before the gadget driver and also before HDMI, means even if you don't get a proper output from HDMI or gadget mode console, it is possible that UART…

(disclaimer) No itention to make a Frankendebian (https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian) but ubuntu package "zram-config" works perfectly. I tested it for two weeks in a: Orange PI Zero 512MB Armbian Stretch 5.40 4.14.18, Orange PI PC2 Armbian Stretch 5.40 4.14.18, AMD Sempron microserver Debian Stretch 9.4 4.9.0-6-amd64. A short tutorial: 1. Download zram-config package (it's a universal package, it does not matter the architecture in use) wget http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/z/zram-config/zram-config_0.5_all.deb 2. The above thing is a $10 accessory that can be ordered together with ROCK64 (and maybe other Pine Inc. devices like Pine64 or Pinebook?). It's an USB-to-SATA bridge (JMicron JMS578 based) to be used together with 2.5" SSD/HDD or 3.5" HDD. For the latter purpose it's equipped with a separate power jack suitable for the usual 12V 5.5/2.1mm power barrels (centre positive) you find PSUs with literally everywhere. TL;DR: If you want to add storage to your ROCK64 order this cable too. It works great with both 2.5" and 3.5" disks and it's somewhat sad it's not available separately since it's a great storage companion for many other devices too. Basics fir…

Anyone ever dealt with OpenMediaVault (OMV) on SBC? Great piece of software but pretty slow, right? One of the many reasons why that happened are outdated crappy kernels and bad settings. I looked at an OMV image for A20 based boards like Banana Pi Pro recently, ended up here http://simplenas.com/download/bananas-simple-system and simply thought: Are you kidding me? Your stable release is based on horribly outdated Debian Wheezy, a kernel 3.4.something and a 2.x OMV release?! What a mess... Igor had an OMV install routine since a long time in his Debian-micro-home-server post-processing script but since an Armbian user evaluated using Armbian's build system to…

Today I had the pleasure of benchmarking an ARM64 server. This server has been made available for Armbian to test native ARM64 image building. I knew nothing about the server. Nobody told me any details. So everything was an adventure for me to find out. I got SSH access, so my research began. A lscpu informed me it had 32-cores all clocked at 3.3Ghz. Not much of a tutorial, but it is something that often needs some googling and head scratching. This is how I got my particular modem working, your mileage may vary. Step 1) Get a modem that will work. I got a Huawei E397u LTE/UMTS/GSM modem. It's Cricket branded, but I'm on Google Fi, it will work with my data SIM. Step 2) Plug it in and see that it doesn't work. Step 3a) apt update Step 3b) apt upgrade Step 4) Install usb-modeswitcher Step 4, optional part 2) install modem-manager, modem-manager-gui (for general playing around) Step 5) unplug/replug the USB modem, see that it should magically have a different VID:PID when …

A very hackish port exists of this Raspberry PI RGB LED Matrix Library which works for Allwinner H3 devices. This works by bit-banging 14 GPIO pins simultaneously to achieve about a 10Mhz throughput / 100fps refresh rate. Refer to here: https://github.com/mrfaptastic/opi-allwinner-h3-rgb-led-matrix I managed to easily get up and running using an Orange PI. Refer to the README of the github repository.

This falls somewhere between "how-to", "research", and "development", so I stuck it here. @adafruit is working to target CircuitPython to Armbian devices, something that will be a bit of a task. I've been playing with the code to get it working on my Tritium H3, finally did (some extra sudo-ing was needed), so I'll probably toss in a couple board definitions/help here and there if I can. it had hijacked a C2 thread (not completely, it was at least about using it on the C2), and I thought it best to continue discussion here. @chwe, @sgjava, and @Larry Bank all have various experience with various GPIO tools, their interest may vary. My current observations,…

This will cause update-grub to add the following a devicetree line to all menu entries. This example is based on Debian Trixie's grub-efi. This example will expect dtb directories (or links) to be in the /boot directory, using the convention that I've seen Armbian use. Here is an example of a /boot directory listing for (pure) Debian Trixie with two kernels: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 336036 Aug 27 04:10 config-6.12.43+deb13-arm64 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 343394 Sep 6 12:48 config-6.16.3+deb13-arm64 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 42 Sep 20 16:17 dtb -> ../usr/lib/linux-image-6.16.3+deb13-arm64/ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 43 Sep 20 16:17 dtb-6.12.43+deb13-…

Hello, I am trying to connect an enc28j60 ethernet port to spi0.0 on an orange pi pc, running armbian (debian stretch 4.19.5). Hi Yesterday I spend the whole day to install Armbian Desktop (XFCE) on my Pinebook Pro. Why Armbian ? The PBP was delivered with Manjaro Arm on it. Everything worked fine until Manjaro stopped support for the Arm platform. For about one year there is no update on stable and the unstable branch couldn't establish a connection to Wifi. I used Manjaro Arm to install tow-boot to the SPI following this website: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=17529 I downloaded the current Bookworm XFCE edition and wrote that to an SD card. Booting from the SD with tow-boot went fine. I installed armbian on the SD card and used armbian-conf…

Hi all. I again had the pleasure of working with an amazing server. This time the AMD Threadripper 3990X, 64-cores and 128 threads. After last week working on a 32-core ARM server I thought I had seen performance. This is again not comparable with anything before. I again got private SSH access. So I opened 3 terminals. One with HTop, another to check sensors. And the 3th to execute my benchmarks. First thing I saw were the 128-threads. Being used to seeing 6, this was almost unbelievable. Spoiler With light loads it turbo's up to 4.3Ghz. All cores maxed out @ 3Ghz while consuming 400W. Reaching a single core 7zip…

[update 12/2017 at bottom] Possibly late, but I would like to put everything we know in one place for anyone who might think of buying this board. Overview: This is a form factor and (mostly) I/O clone of the Raspberry Pi 3 with a much more powerful quad-core Cortex-A17 Rockchip rk3288. It supports HDMI 2.0, has 2 GB RAM, Gigabit Ethernet, Wifi and BT on board, etc: https://www.asus.com/us/Single-Board-Computer/Tinker-Board/ As numerous other sites have covered all the typical performance metrics and extolled the power and so forth of this board, I'm going to go ahead and give you the less exciting information a…

So, I was doing some reading on how to control PWM fans under Linux. The lm-sensors package has a fancontrol script, but pwmconfig doesn't recognize the PWM devices on my NanoPi M4V2. There's also this repository which has a pwm-fan service, which might be the same one that Friendly Desktop uses (referenced in this post). But then I found this rather interesting link from the Kobol guys: https://wiki.kobol.io/helios4/pwm/. Apparently the Linux kernel has built-in thermal control and user space scripting isn't even required, just editing the Device Tree. But as we have easy user overlays for the RK3399, let's go ... tparys@m4v2:~$ sudo ar…

The above is a so called 'Banana Pi M2 Berry' I bought yesterday and will return today to get my money back (due to 'Irreführende Werbung' / false advertising) showing most probably the use case this device will be bought by clueless people: To connect a SATA 2.5" disk to it since 'native SATA'. Of course this doesn't work as expected since the board's power design is an absolute fail. The manufacturer already knows what a shit show using Micro USB for DC-IN is. I simply used the same average USB cable I used to demonstrate the problem a few years ago with the original Banana Pi. With an average USB cable the disk does not even spin up but only produces ugly n…

Overview (Disclaimer: The following is for techies only that like to dig a bit deeper. And if you're not interested in energy-efficient servers then probably this is just a waste of time ) EDIT: Half a year after this poorly designed SBC has been released just one of the many design flaws has been fixed: Micro USB for DC-IN has been replaced by the barrel jack that was present on the pre-production batches. If you were unfortunate to get a Micro USB equipped M3 please have a look here how to fix this. Apart from that check the Banana forums what to expect regarding software/support first since this is your only source) Sin…

With this commit I added 7-zip benchmark reporting to Armbian now. Will be available after next updates and with next batch of new images. Why not recommending to just do an 'apt install p7zip ; 7zr b'? Since 'fire and forget' benchmarking is always BS. You need some monitoring in parallel to know whether your system was really idle and at which clockspeeds the CPU cores were operating (throttling occuring or not?). Most recent 7-zip contains an own routine to 'pre-heat' the system prior to starting the benchmark (to let cpufreq scaling switch from low clockspeeds to highest ones and e.g. on Intel systems let the system enter TurboBoost modes). Th…

Panfrost instructions Armbian !!!! I made a script that does all this, check a few posts later for the script !!!!! This tutorial explains how to build an Armbian image with panfrost. And what else you need to make it work. These are early drivers. Many things don't work yet. Only OpenGL 2.1 works now. You need to build an image with kernel 5.2 or later. For this you need an x86 pc with Ubuntu 18.04 or a virtual Ubuntu 18.04 x86 image. First install git, then clone the build folder from Armbian, and enter the build directory. apt-get -y -qq install git git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/armbian/build cd bu…

Canon provides source code for cups driver, but with some proprietary binary libs. This libs available only for x86. No way for direct compiling cnijfilter for ARM (and other architectures). But we have qemu! We can transparently run x86 executables on any other host architectures. Easy steps to run cnijfilter on ARM (or any other arch): - Build https://github.com/endlessm/cnijfilter-common for x86 - Copy all needed x86 libs using recursive ldd. And copy it to /usr/lib/bjlib/ - Patch all executables: set interpreter to /usr/lib/bjlib/x86/ld-linux.so.2 and rpath to /usr/lib/bjlib/ - Install these patched packages to ARM system…

I own a few Android TV boxes that have poor thermal designs that are prone to overheating when under sustained load. This can either cause your device to significantly slow down or shut down entirely. This can be fixed by cutting a hole in the bottom on your TV box above the SoC and sticking a small USB fan on it. In my case I am using a AC Infinity 40mm x 20mm USB Fan that cost me £10. CH340-fan-control is a python script to only activate my TV boxes USB fan when required by using a USB relay module. I'd expect somebody (or several somebodies) have already wrote a similar script for the same device but I failed to find it so here is my effort at fixing this c…

Hi there, this very short tutorial is a solution when you need to backup/clone/save as small *.img file as possible of your whole fully bootable system (e.g. you have 8GB card but you want to make smaller system image for 2GB card). And another reason why I created this tutorial - I need to burn the same image to many microsd cards. I am using Windows (yup, hate me know) and Debian in these steps: Put your microsd card to Windows machine and make image of card with Win32diskimager. If your card is e.g. 8GB, you get *.img file with the same size (my name backup.img). Now in linux maxine (in my case Debian virtual machine) we are going to work with…

I pieced this tutorial together using an Orange Pi 5, installing Armbian 23.02 Jammy Gnome Desktop, and connecting via a Windows 11 PC using Windows Remote Desktop client. Keep in mind, your Orange Pi OS needs to be a full Desktop edition, otherwise, if you're using CLI editions, you will not have a Graphical User Interface installed, which Windows Remote Desktop needs to connect. ArmbianOS Download Link Putty Download Link Start PUTTY and enter your Orange Pi's IP address or host name (orangepi5) …

MPD as installed by Armbian needs this audio_output configuration in /etc/mpd.conf in order to use the volume control of the on-board sound with Armbian mainline kernel 5.x on the BananaPi M1 (and maybe other A20 boards): audio_output { type "alsa" name "BananaPi BuiltIn" device "hw:0,0" mixer_type "hardware" mixer_device "default" mixer_control "Power Amplifier" }

Hi All, After I accomplished my IR Red Key Rick Rolling experiment the other day with much success, and from general end-luser use with Armbian, there were two things which irritated me, which are namely due to the default ALSA configuration that comes with stock Debian and that Armbian inherits. These were: Update: 11 September 2017. This guide will not work for newer Armbiam (Debian) installations which comes with Pulseaudio by default. If you really want what this tutorial provides, you will need to uninstall pulseaudio first: sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio 1) You can't have simultaneous applications using an Audio device. So, how ab…

Note: Guide Updated May 2017, as I realise that /dev/input/event3 may not always be the IR receiver device on your armbian installation. Hi All, I recently bought an Orange PI PC and the best thing I ever did was install Armbian straight away (and donate). Now that I have a bit of spare time, I wanted to configure my Orange PI PC to do something ridiculous like play Rick Ashley 'Never going to give you up' upon pressing the 'red button' on some generic Chinese IR remote for an LED light strip I have in my living room. Thanks to Armbian, most of the pieces are in place (such as the SunXI IR package) with the distribution, you just need t…

Hello everyone, today I would like to show you how to compile CoovaChilli and Freeradius for a Wifi Hotspot with captive portal on an Orange Pi PC (or PC Plus). I'm writing this because I couldn't find anything related to this topic on the internet, so I wrote this not very detailed guide. wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ua3nbw/opihotspot/master/opihotspot_debian.sh chmod +x opihotspot_debian.sh ./opihotspot_debian.sh Russian version https://ua3nbw.ru/all/orangepi-coovachilli-and-freeradius-for-a-wifi-hotspot-with-capt/

You all know the problem: You have a spare SBC (with USB3) laying around catching dust, a spare SSD or other hard drive and for whatever reason some (terabyte?) space in whatever cloud on the planet and have no idea what to do with it. Well here is what I came up with to solve this struggle https://zuckerbude.org/cloud-nas-with-local-cache/

Dear Armbian community, although I'm using Armbian a lot, I never had to submit anything to this forum (fortunately, because it works so well :-)), On my PC I've experienced lags on heavy IO operations. After a short dig into available information, I found a useful Cloudflare article on Kernel queues together with dm-crypt. A good & short summary on possible actions for users can be found here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dm-crypt/Specialties#Disable_workqueue_for_increased_solid_state_drive_(SSD)_performance Enabling the no-read-workqueue & no-write-workqueue options helped a lot! …

Hi there. Trying to get SPIDEV working on my good old cubietruck aka cubieboard3 with an allwinner A20. Found some posts here and there dealing with A20 boards. But nothing of that did anything for me so far. Enabled it in armbian-config hardware settings and rebooted. No /dev/spi* at all. No mentioning of "spi" in dmesg. Step 1 gave a line "overlays=spi-spidev" in /boot/armbianEnv.txt. Read somewhere else that there should be another line "param_spidev_spi_bus=0", but that was not created by armbian-config. Added that ...bus=0 line myself and rebooted. Still no spi device and nothing in dmesg /proc/device-tree-model says "cubietec…

There is no official sdcard image but the attached script will create a image for the OrangePi Zero/R1. It uses daily generated files from Debian daily-images and considered testing/unstable. SDcard image creation: You will need basic Linux/Debian and dosfs utils. No su/root needed. Run the script to generate sdcard image for writing to sdcard. Optionally, if you want ssh network-console access, add preseed.cfg to same directory as script. See attached preseed.cfg and example-preseed.txt . Basic installation: Once the installer is started, it runs completely in RAM and no longer needs files from the sdcard. You can delete all partitio…

For those of you who're interested in running a CMS on Armbian I've a small tutorial how to get django CMS working. Hello everyone! Is there anyone who tried to run Docker on armbian? Ok, let's start from the beginning: I am from the Hypriot Team (we made Docker available on ARM) and recently saw some guys successfully playing with Docker on armbian. Meanwhile, we know, that our Docker runs at least on the Cubietrack and Lamobo R1/BananaPi R1 on top of armbian! This is awesome because, you know, IoT is coming, and Docker on ARM helps get a grip on many challenges induced by IoT. However, we were only able to support Docker on Raspberry Pis so far... Imagine if Docker would run on more than just a few ARM boards! Armbian seems an awesome platform to …

As a result of all the work that Armbian developers put into the upgrade to kernel 4.14 for the XU4 board family, now we can enjoy many new features. One of them is the access to the SoC video encoding capabilities. Emby Media Server can take advantage of the Exynos 5422 MFC video engine for transcoding. That means lower CPU usage, lower temperatures, and the possibility of encoding in real time higher resolutions or more simultaneous streams. In my tests, I've been able to transcode one HEVC 1080p and one 480p at the same time, or five 480p (though it will depend on the bitrate of the source material). However, the ffmpeg version shipped with offi…

On some devices (mostly headless) like Pine A64 LTS and other SBCs with Allwinner SoCs is Lima blacklisted by default or not supported by distribution. For getting Lima work, you need to use distribution, which have already Mesa with Lima support (Mesa 20.1+) (or compile latest Mesa from sources, but this is not included in this tutorial). At the moment of writing, it's Ubuntu Focal and Debian Bullseye. I personally prefer Debian more, so in my case, download Debian Bullseye image for your SBC and burn it into the board. After booting into your board, find file named /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-NAMEOFYOURSBC.conf (for me it's blacklist-pinea64-lts.conf…

Hi all. I wrote a small guide on enabling pps-gpio by modifying the device tree. With a PPS signal it's possible to setup your board as a Stratum 1 time server for your local network or the NTP pool. I used this method on a Rock64 but it should be applicable on most board. PPS-GPIO on Rock64 with Armbian legacy (4.4.X) kernel Cheers.

In general we seem to get a schematic with some pin labels, not always complete, and certainly inconsistent. (Some like FriendlyElec do an amazing job, Libre Computer provides some spreadsheets, etc) Since Armbian is as much about "making it better" as it is about "making it work", I thought a good project that a lot of people could participate in is a relatively unified GPIO reference: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dJq7MM1_zA5HtXywDMZ9HMKyPaNgGmkxnuz3wYuk4s8/edit?usp=sharing I don't know that a google sheet is the best system, but it serves to illustrate my idea. Provide a consistent format so there are few que…

TL;DR: All available H3 boards do not differ that much. But the few differences sometimes really matter! The following is an attempt to compare the different available H3 SBC that are supported by Armbian. The majority of boards is made by Xunlong but in the meantime two more vendors started cloning the Xunlong boards (and also Olimex is preparing H3 boards as OSHW). Both Foxconn/SinoVoip with their Banana Pi M2+ and FriendlyARM with their NanoPi M1 tried really hard to copy everything as exact as possible (the so called pin mappings -- how the many contacts the used H3 SoC is providing are routed to the outside). All the boards share the same 40 pi…

The following is a short overview what you can expect from small and big H3 devices when used as a NAS. I chose the least capable device (OPi Lite for $12: not even Ethernet and just 512MB DRAM) and the best possible (OPi Plus 2E for $35: GBit Ethernet, 3 USB host ports exposed that do not have to share bandwidth, 2GB DRAM). I wanted to test also a H3 device in between with 1GB DRAM but since results are somewhat predictable I dropped the whole idea (the performance bottleneck on all Fast Ethernet equipped devices will be network unless you add the $7.50 for an USB-Ethernet dongle -- see below -- and all other Gbit Ethernet capable H3 devices are not…

Hi, There's been a few guides around on how to get RDP working with Armbian so you can login from your Windows or other PC. Some solutions mentioned in various threads here were: Install tightvncserver instead + x2go bloat (i.e. use VNC) Only login as root - didn't seem to make any difference for me Change some permissions of a log file in your home directory. Well, this is what I did on my Orange PI PC running Buster desktop with Kernel 5.4, as of April 2020. sudo apt install xrdp xorgxrdp sudo systemctl enable xrdp sudo reboot ... and that was it. The missing piece of the puzzel appeared to be the install of …

Hello, I apologize in advance if I haven't put the topic in the right section. I want to share my experience with NanoPC-T6 and two NVMe m.2 disk. I use my NanoPC-T6 for a small server. Hi all, Maybe there are a lot people who got this working but for me was today the day. I buyed a time a go a cheap but fast NVME SSD from Aliexpress. The smallest one a 128GB. I have also a 512GB in my laptop and for the price they are really good. But i needed also a USB-NVME external housing. That is the Ugreen NVME 10GBps to USB adapter. In very short but i will explain more in the future. 1. Flash a MicroSD card with your favourite Armbian to the MicroSD. Update with sudo apt-get update. Also with a SSH session not a problem. 2. Place the USB disk in a USB 3.0 port of the Orange Pi. By the OrangePi 4 it´s the blue one on the…

If you use a SIP Voip client on your phone or computer, you can use the sip protocol and scripting to monitor your Armbian board. I'm using Ubuntu Xenial, but other versions should work as well. I have the Linphone client on my phone and I use the free Linphone SIP service. Linphone.org hosts a free SIP service that allows users to make audio or video calls using SIP addresses via the domain sip.linphone.org. You can also send text messages. SIP requires an internet data connection, and my phone is connected via WIFI most of the time except when I'm commuting, so I set up my monitoring chron jobs on the Armbian device to run at times when…

Hi, To enable the armbianmonitor to show information on the running system on the serial console, I used to have a custom startup script, called from /etc/rc.local. After some time, I thought it was more neat to have this automatically started (and stopped) for login sessions that are started on serial consoles/terminals. This lead (led?) me to the following systemd unit file: [Unit] Description=armbianmonitor on ttyS2 Requires=serial-getty@ttyS2.service After=serial-getty@ttyS2.service After=getty.target BindsTo=serial-getty@ttyS2.service [Service] Type=idle ExecStartPre=-/bin/sleep 10 ExecStart=/usr/bin/armbianmonitor -m TTYPath=/dev/ttyS2 Standa…

(Note that the pieces of the driver has been around for some time but I have never seen it put together without further work. Hopefully this patch would make it readily usable. I have tested it on 5.5.18 and quite happy with it.) 0001-fbtft-fb_ili9488.patch 1_ili9488.dts Sample file is for nanopi neo. Driver also works with 4 inch LCD, MSP4020, MSP4021

Java UIO provides high performance Java interfaces for Linux Userspace IO. Java UIO was built from the ground up to use modern kernel APIs, libraries and code generation techniques to provide a best of breed cross platform approach. It does not make sense to recreate the wheel like so many other IO libraries. JDK 17 LTS is supported out of the box. I've been committing code to U8g2 that utilizes the same userspace code at the C level and dramatically improved the performance of HW/SW SPI and I2C in the arm-linux port. I also made the arm-linux port thread safe and multi display capable (you can use this in C as well obviously). It made sense to add modularizat…

I pushed a template for the NanoPi NEO (2/Air/Core/Plus2) onto my github: https://github.com/Tonymac32/kicad-templates If you want to make add-ons, that's fully labelled and the header positions are as correct as I could get them without official reference. I have made a few boards with it, so can vouch that it will assemble. I'll add more as I have time and money to do so, since I don't want to push any that aren't verified in some manner.

Hello reader I will report here about my experience to watch Netflix as written in the title. To do so, I got a current LE image from @balbes150 (thank you). You may be asking the same question as I do (did), why using the image from balbes and not the official one from the download page ? It is actually quite simple, balbes integrates the latest Kernel for his LE builds. While on a x86 system the kernel isn't so interesting, it is on ARM systems, because a lot of the development happens 1 or 2 year later of the release of the SoC. I have asked him about the different versions he offers for Le Potato: All versions…

I know the RPi is pretty limited on the GPIO pins. Now my question is how it looks on Le Potato, i.E. is it possible to power a fan directly from the GPIO pins? Powering it from the 3.3 V line seems to work just fine but I fear damaging hardware by trying to connect it to a GPIO instead.

Hello everybody. I am trying to build an DIY headset from scratch and I originally planning to use some armbian OS for its SBC at its heart of the device (like an orange pi, or something maybe a bit stronger who knows - I happily accept recommendations). For the headset it is necessary to have proper opengl support with hardware rendering capabilities and also good to have video acceleration maybe so I think the legacy kernel fits the purpose best. PROBLEM: I tried to plug in the HDMI display - it does not work. Details: The display is seemingly not working when attached to the HDMI port. I see some led flashing so I think s…

Let's start with a weird image first: In the plastic box is an Olimex A20-Lime2, a 2.5" HDD with 2TB and Olimex' largest battery with 6600mAh. Mounted on the top cover (box standing on the side) is a Banana Pi M2+ (to be replaced with NanoPi M1 or OPi One/PC in the future) Why Lime2? Since this board from our friends at Olimex is designed intelligently and provides DC-DC step-up converters on the board providing the ability to power also the connected SATA disk when running from battery (unlike most other A10/A20 boards that do only provide 5V on USB ports in battery mode but not to the disk!). And since A20 is perfectly supported by ma…

hi all, as documented here, i did some minor experiments with small heatsinks on an orange pi one sbc (allwinner H3) among the things i used a small matrix multiplication program which multiplies a 1000x1000 matrix single precision floating point matrix main.cpp the command to build is c++ -O2 -std=gnu++11 -pthread -o mat main.cpp then run ./mat the last documented results on an orange pi one H3 running at 1.2ghz is 2389.49Mflops ~ 2.39Gflops the sources attached is 'optimised', the means of optimization is unrolling of the innermost loop to take advantage of platforms that could do quad sp fp simultaneous execute …

There have been several disjointed tutorials on making a raspberrypi or orangepi into a surveillance camera. So I threw this together to maybe help someone out there with any issues. I used the orangepipc+ but any orangepi board should work as long as it has the basics, internet connectivity, storage, and a camera. (I highly suggest heatsinks as well) any feedback or enhancements to this tutorial are greatly appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------------ ORANGEPI IPCAMERA ------------------------------------------------------------------ su root apt-get update apt-get upgrade apt-get install …

Some of the boards supported by Armbian have an mpcie slot. The only one that I know of that also has a sim slot is the celarfog pro. (Correct me if I missed something) I found this little add on board that supposedly adds a sim card to an mpcie modem. Think it might work on some or which of the boards? I looked at this but I get lost in figuring out how to form the udev rules. Anyone get 4g going on Armbian on any board in the US?
