hi ya all . i have orangepi one with armbian set up as web site server ... All good seems stable and cool despite being housed in the little cardboard box it arrived in. Now because I am on alternative power and sometimes this is in greater supply than others I would really like to reduce power consumption as much as possible Not interested in reducing processor power or memory speed or other things that may impact on its primary task of serving web pages and processing php. however the only connections to the board are ethernet and power I do not want or need any graphics camera USB or whatever nor do i need any services other than ssh and …

I'm older and not much time allowed to "F" off. I used to spend time in my late 30's On Q3A InstaUnlagged. I'm using AI The best I can to do the things I dont have time for. I bought a OP5b before our house flooded and then I started AI for geneology.. went f'n amazing... Family came here from France in 1624. In 1924 there was a commemorative coin and 2 stamps celebrating my family and other French and Belgium Huguenots working the American Dream, with religious freedoms... Then a book about our Family's farm in Central Park. An artist hired to painting of the description of the farm.. So I bought the coin, the two stamps, the painting, the book and the French Bible that…

I must say that im suprised. I installed Armbian 5.59 Bionic on Nanopi T4 and found little cores A53 overclocked 1.80GHZ and big A72 cores clocked 1.90GHZ. Im using double radiator 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm. It is not very hot. I was not expecting such good job from Nanopi. On Firefly RK3399 i must to use third 3.5x 3.5radiator and it is getting hot at clock speed 1.4ghz a53 and 1.81ghz a72.

Total Armbian newbie here. Previous Dietpi user looking to acquire an Odroid N2+ for primarily serving music (Plex, Logitech Music Server perhaps). Wondering about the availability of support for routing audio through to USB DAC? In DietPi this was handled through alsamixer. How is it handled if at all with Armbian?

Hi guys I have no time to test performace between armbian, retrorangepi and h3droid, does some one test the same app on the three system, does it run the same? I have now an armbian with kodi and retroarch that i'm using for test, but I'm planning to move to a more TV friendly OS as retrorangepi or h3droid. the main problem is Netflix, I should go for h3droid only for netflix app, but I want to be sure that retrorangepi and kodi works the same as on armbian/retrorangepi. and that the temps are the same. Can you help me if you had some experience? PS I know that I could run netflix on kodi but I didn't tested it. thank you in advance

Hi all, I would like to let you know that I successfully added to nexmon (framework to patch broadcom WiFi's driver+fw and add functionalities, like monitor mode) support for Orange Pi Zero 2+ (H3 and H5) running the latest Armbian (kernel next) Both boards have AP6212A as WiFi chipset, that is based on same Broadcom core of Raspberry Pi 3B/0W (bcm43430a1). What I did is basically porting brcmfmac's patches to 4.19 and compiling the Arm toolchain (for firmware cross-compiling) for aarch64. It ain't much but it's honest work I kept airodump running for a few hours and it seems stable. If you want to take a look/try it you can find the code h…

By comparing https://github.com/friendlyarm/linux/blob/sunxi-4.14.y/arch/arm/boot/dts/sun8i-h3-nanopi-duo2.dts and https://github.com/friendlyarm/linux/blob/sunxi-4.14.y/arch/arm/boot/dts/sun8i-h2-plus-nanopi-duo.dts the only real difference is replacing the crappy XR819 Wi-Fi with RTL8189 (the other change being H2+ being replaced by H3) NanoPi Hero also features RTL8189 Wi-Fi, is limited to Fast Ethernet and has an I2C accessible voltage regulator allowing the board to clock at up to 1368 MHz (at 1.4V VDD_CPUX): https://github.com/friendlyarm/linux/blob/sunxi-4.14.y/arch/arm/boot/dts/sun8i-h3-nanopi-hero.dts Maybe @mindee is so kind to provide an…

Hi, I use Banana Pro (armbian installed). I have no problem at all after installing Armbian. Previous OS was Raspbian and it was slow for homeserver ops. (I thing GUI was default). Nowadays, looking for a new but fast SBC. I am not interested in any video applications and components and such as Kodi, XMBC, H.265, 1080p, high resolution. I will not use it as desktop. İt will serve only for my home network for DLNA server, DHCP server, Web proxy (like Squid), web filtering (SquidGuard), torrent ops. and web reporting (w/ Apache or any other). Especially web browsing is a little bit slower over Squid and Squidguard. İf this is CPU, memory or any kind source issue, …

I've installed a wireless alarm system, but I want to use all my old wired stuff from my original alarm system. I started down the road of using an ESP8266, but GPIO.INT was flaky and GPIO pins limited, so I ordered a MCP23017 and figured Why not just do everything with one NanoPi Duo? I have a few of them and they are made for breadboard prototyping. Plus with the built in Ethernet I can have wired primary and wireless backup networking. I even rolled my own Ethernet adapter since the breakout adapters cost $5+. If you have already done this and have any wisdom to share I'd like to hear it. No turning back now!

Tinkering with API's is fun. Always wanted to allocate the scripts and tools made over time and allow quick access to the data they can provide. Never liked the idea of leaving a power hungry Desktop running to have access to it and am too paranoid to leave any SBC (FTP/WebServer) connected to the World Wild West for too long. As seen with the Mirai Botnet/DYN attacks. So my answer was to have something low power (SBC and armbian) that was at least 'secure enough' for me to let it interface with the world. So this was made: https://github.com/BiTinerary/PersonalAPI In a nutshell this is how it works: Scripts on an OPi Zero that make API calls, scrape web da…

I use NANOPI R1 in one of my projects. Now I need to develop a board to make a physical watchdog from NANOPI R1 itself and an RTC (the NANOPI R1 RTC does not work). I have two possibilities: One is to use the already integrated UART, or use a USB - I2C converter. Using the UART I would communicate the NANOPI with a 328P microcontroller, and from there I would collect the RTC information (with i2c between 328P and RTC), in addition to sending the frequent information to the 328P to keep the watchdog active. Using the I2C, the RTC would be connected to the I2C BUS and I would do the direct query via NANOPI R1, as well as send the frequent information via I2C …

I was searching for certain hard-to-find chip (TDA1022 BBD) and found this site ( www.chimicron.com ) mentioned as a source. They have it in stock and at a pretty decent price. Most of their stuff I’ve seen seems reasonably priced, but I couldn’t find mentions/opinions of the site here or in a few other diy communities. I’m not sure the location of the company (either Hong Kong or China?), but everything is listed in dollars (but then again so is Tayda). Has anyone purchase through this site? Any issues with quality of the productions such as questionable authenticity? Are shipping/handling times reasonable? Thank you!

I can't even imagine the amount of work involved on both sides of the (debian) development fence, as well as the admins, mods, community contributors, ..., here, that help make Armbian a viable SBC (ARM) whatever OS. -and here's to RISC-*, and let it not be too encumbered. Hello All, I am working on a freelance testing project and I want to know which model is better for testing in the process and concept point of view between agile and waterfall. Yesterday when i search for difference between them I found this reference and as I know Agile method uses an incremental development approach, the phases of design, production, testing, and other project management may appear several times as well as testing is frequently done in conjunction with the development phase in Agile model to maintain consistent quality. but not an idea about waterfall. Can anyone know which model is useful in testing? and what technique the waterfall model used?

HI. I have a system on emmc protected by overlayroot. Sensitive data are written to sd card. Everything works as expected. The question is: Is there a way to temporarily access the root filesystem from python script ? Of course, I can temporarily deactivate protection by ‘overlayroot-chroot’ command from terminal and make changes, but that's not what I mean. I have a web server application written in a flask framework. On one of its pages, users can set network parameters, e.g. IP, mask, dns . Is it possible at all, eg when the user accepts changes to disable protection, save changes to root filesystem and immediately enable protection ?

So my whole goal with java-periphery was to create a decent cross platform userspace IO library which I believe I have achieved. One of my other goals was to create a high performance GPIO API that's also cross platform. If you look around there aren't any from what I can tell. Most high performance GPIO libraries support only a few boards. What I've done is use a well known interface (GPIO device) and some MMIO code to detect deltas and generate the required resisters and masks from an input file. This surely beats doing this by hand which I tried at first. The result is code that supports Allwinner H2+/H3 and H5/H6 by using just an input file. I'm going to look at other…

I split this off to it's own topic, as it became more about Librem 5 which was offtopic from the original discussion. Being someone aware of Libreboot for some years now, I was never a fan of Purism and the BS they pulled with their laptops, which meant either: they knew fully libre firmware was not possible, and lied (or) they really wanted to do as stated, but ran face first into a wall due to lack of knowledge / research beforehand (about Intel IME issues) And so, back then I never really paid much attention to them, thinking (like you do) that they were just another company "cashing in" as you say, and everything from them is all …

Orange Pi 5B subforum has recurring threads about eMMC boot loops, WiFi/Bluetooth regressions on mainline kernels, and the general "what image actually works on this thing" question. Joshua-Riek's ubuntu-rockchip was a common answer to that for a long time, but it was archived recently. This is a personal continuation fork in case it's useful to anyone working through those same issues. What this is: - Fork of Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-rockchip (archived) — same vendor 6.1 kernel base, not mainline - Therefore: onboard WiFi/BT works (no mainline driver regressions), eMMC boots reliably - Scope: Orange Pi 5B + Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) only. jammy/oracular/plucky suite conf…

Goodmorning, i would like to ask if someone have ever tried to use musl libc with Armbian. From some research appear that using it instead of glibc make programs consume a lot less ram and less space on disk. I never tried personally, but i'm curious about that because it could be especially useful for single board computer with less than 2gb of ram (like mine ). Since, from what i know, programs do not statically link to glibc, but dynamically link to a generic libc at runtime, could be possible to use musl as drop in replacement for libc, without rebuild everything? From what i know there could be some incompatibilities because glibc does not fully respect the…

Hi all, I am building an art project, and I love the hardware specs of Orange Pi PC for it. I have a graphical Java app (built in Processing) that runs on a HDMI display, and unsurprisingly it doesn't run well without a GPU. On RPi 3B+/Diet Pi I've got it up around 24 fps using KMS, and I'm happy with that performance, but now I'm porting it to the OPi so I'm kinda starting from scratch again. I am aware of the amazing work going on with Panfrost although I've had issues installing it on my board with Buster Desktop. In general Armbian on Orange Pi PC seems pretty great, amazing even. But I'm only getting about 1 frame every 5 seconds with my Java/Processing a…

Hello, I hope this is the right place to ask .I have worried a few days.Don't know whether it is appropriate to ask here. I am using the LM95071 in a simple application to measure ambient temperature of our product. The normal temperature range is approx 15degC through to 50degC. In general the part is working well, however intermittently I will read a value of -22degC. The spurious values occur around once every 100-200k reads. Typically a valid read should be 0x0eab, however I am occasionally getting spurious values of 0x0f4b3, 0x0f4a7, 0x0f4a3 or 0x0f4b7 I am reading the LM95071 every 4ms, which is much faster than its conversion time, however t…

Using Zorin 8, on ASUS mobo with Rosewell internal port adaptor (usb, sd, etc, all in one). Everything is working great, but... Did following steps, bluetooth is able to connect and headphones work, but have to fiddle around with settings every time I want to use my BT headphones. (Jam Transit Bluetooth headphones) Selected Iogear adaptor from Ubuntu Hardware Support list. Plugged in usb adaptor. Installed Blueman. Ran detection Went to Bluetooth in Settings and detected headset, ok. Device does not show up in Sound. Searched through various Ubuntu forum help sections, finally found that running the command : pulseaudio -k Then my BT headset appears…

You may want to try this if your orangepi zero plus with NAS IO expansion combination is running too hot, with Nanopi neo 2 it runs a bit cooler (~ 65 vs 70 in full load). Not sure if it is because of the slower CPU speed or the more exposed heat sink.

I just need the ethernet connector. Does anyone know the pin connections to this? It's not marked. The double USB from orange pi zero IO expansion works fine but the audio out is a bit noisy. I had to use a separate audio port. This is one of the few boards with double SPIs and they both work fine. Thanks for the easy user overlay customization support. This is my $7.99 256mb neo core, note there is a chip missing (3rd picture). Starting up in X is slower - it waits for a second or two each time - don't know why, any ideas? It cannot be the swap as I monitored the swap and its only using 125mb. I have the system on the USB …

Hi All. I have some confusion on Touchscreen interface. My ques is very basic on LCD interface types ... apologies for that. I like to use a 3.5" Touchscreen. For CPU either Allwinner H6 and RK3328 is in my choice. I have attached the Touchscren Datasheet. Here we will build a custom PCB for the Touchscreen. But I found RK3328 don't have any LCD Interface. So is there any possible way to use this Touchscreen with RK3328 based SBC like Rock64? On the other hand Allwinner H6 have RGB LCD port. But in Touchscreen Datasheet it said LCD Driver IC is ILI9488. As H6 have direct RGB Port so do we need to use this ILI9488 Driver? …

This has led me to this stanza: BUILD_MINIMAL (yes|no): set to “yes” to build bare CLI image suitable for application deployment. I have this idea that I was researching on for a while. There are 5" FullHD LCD panels available on aliexpress for phones (HTC Drod DNA, HTC M7 etc.) as low as 15$, I thought about driving them with a controller board for interfacing HDMI (opi) <> MIPI DSI (lcd) but couldn't find that much about it. There are DIY Oculus DK1 kits on ali selling for 240$ that includes these boards and a LCD, and there is a hackaday project that sells for 99$ only board. Any thoughts about a cheaper solution? Hackaday project (99$): http://hackaday.io/project/364-mipi-dsi-display-shieldhdmi-adapter Thanks

After talking about "the crazy idea" of use of this boards like light desktops in other thread with @JoeyBeelinkX2 : I start reading about ways to improve the performance. In this way I find an alternative scheduler specially conceived by responsiveness of desktop use, is called MuQSS http://ck-hack.blogspot.com.es/2016/10/muqss-multiple-queue-skiplist-scheduler.html I also find a kernel ready to use on x86 architectures (includes de MuQSS scheduler instead of CFS and BFQ instead of CFQ, while also adding more tweaks for responsiveness like proper QoS over TCP to avoid TCP congestion): https://liquorix.net/#install And my final questions: Can th…

I'm looking for current and upcoming PXE bootable SBCs. I guess if it has uboot on a SPI chip (like ROCK64, PINE64, espressobin, opi r1 ...) this is already a good indicator that it will support PXE boot. But I'm not 100% sure if PXE will really work, it seems to be rarely used for such boards. The only board I know which does not have uboot but can boot via PXE is the rpi 3. Maybe there are other ones. Some other boards like the nanopi duo could boot via a SPI chip attached to the respective GPIO pins. Maybe someone here knows other boards with PXE boot support or has tested it already?

Hi everyone, I would like to pick the brains of our fellow armbianers about powering the small boxes. My experience is that quality of the outlet, the in-the-wall circuit line, the health of the power strip, the actual voltage out of the plug, etc ... very much matter. How to best plug a system made of 5-6 devices (sbc+hard-drive+sata multiplier, dac, usb hub, usb wifi keys). Does phase, pluging orientation change something ? Is it possible to monitor via software the quality of the power signal from within the SBCs ? Interferences ? What kind of off the shelf instruments can help to monitor the power signal ? Do ferrites help ?…

Hi guys I'm desperately trying to get VPSD to run on my Cuboxi4Pro, I'm very close but need some help getting over the line. VPSD is a Serial to TCP hardware to software solution. I've run it on debian for years happily, I've now compiled it on armbian, there are two main components. An executable that is initiated with /etc/init.d/vspm which creates virtual devices in /dev/, this part is working fine. Then there is vspd which creates the daemon, the binary did get built but when I try and run it I get the following: root@cubox-i:~# /etc/init.d/vspd start starting vspd.../etc/init.d/vspd: line 47: /usr/local/vspd/sbin/vspd: cannot execute binary file [FAILURE] /etc…

I just released a new library to act as a DNS filter. This differs from pi-hole in that it runs as a user-level program and doesn't depend on dnsmasq. This allows you to run it on a machine without changing your network configuration. It hasn't been rigorously tested, but appears to work properly. It can either proxy the packets to a trusted DNS server or spoof the return address using RAW sockets to route the response back to the requestor. It can fool web pages (like CNN) as it blocks ads and replaces dynamic ad script requests with innocuous javascript responses. https://github.com/bitbank2/bb-hole

So I'm working on a generic way to do MMIO GPIO on Armbian and chatting with @diozeroit seems like a wiringPi implementation is a good place to start for ideas. Armbian supports many FriendlyArm boards, so I took a look at https://github.com/friendlyarm/WiringNP. Of course out of the box it fails because it's probing for things found only in its home made OS distros. I found a way to hack the getBoardType function to hard code your board type for Armbian and probably other distros. This will work only on the board you hack it for. Honestly there should have been a way to pass in a parameter to override the detection code. In any event here's the method to use. …

This mini-tutorial is for those interested in running OpenGL applications and games on OpenGL ES. Most (maybe all?) SoCs around support OpenGL ES, which is almost a stripped down version of OpenGL. OpenGL ES is mainly used by smartphone apps, but on Linux and generally on desktop computer OpenGL clients are the most common. This tutorial is very simple and will teach you on how to download and compile GL4ES (github: https://github.com/ptitSeb/gl4es), a nice piece of software that converts most OpenGL calls into OpenGL ES counterparts to achieve some degree of compatibility and let your apps run on our SoCs. The target of this tutorial is the Rockchip RK3288 SoC …
