I bought a Firefly RK3399 about a year ago. Since then I have moved to Friendly NanoPC T4. I bought a second NanoPC T4 because my first machine running Armbian Bionic 18.04.4 has been working very well. I have been anti X86 and decided ARM was more interesting. Now to compile I need Armbian Build. So I bought a $100 HP 15 Laptop, a basic 4GB / 500GB Sata machine running Focal / Ubuntu 20.04. OK I have since reevaluated my situation and see more AMD machines in my future. I was able to run Armbian 20.05 on the HP and that impressively gave me a working Ubuntu Focal on my NanoPC. Except it is unoptimized and creaky. not really a working desktop…

I'm trying to setup a server based on an Odroid HC2. I chose Armbian Buster but I'm having problems because arm64 isn't as well-supported as 32-bit. I'm thinking about starting over with Focal but I wanted to double-check first... Is Focal 32-bit? Does it still have/use armbian-config and softy? (I assume so, but just in case those are exclusive to Buster, I thought I'd ask.) Thanks for the guidance!

Hi all, If anyone is interested, I have a Helios64 backup battery pack lying around that I did order back in the day, but never got around to installing/using it. (Have a separate UPS.) From my guess this thing is <6 years old, but again, never seen any charge or discharge. PM me when interested. Groetjes, PS Available for pickup in the San Jose, Bay Area, CA (USA) or can send domestically thru USPS.

First and foremost, I appreciate everything I've seen come from Armbian, back from when it was being "hosted on an OrangePi" to update after update of newly released boards to expanding to include this Forum. Thanks, Igor and other contributors. What you're doing is awesome. Anyways, I'm starting to find the Forum to be kind of hard to navigate, threads are pretty jumbled and topics kind of globbed together. I was just wondering why that is, if there's plans to smooth out those edges, etc..? Or is it just me? Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have a medium to go to than nothing at all. Just looking for a little insight into the plans for the look and functionality of thi…

I hope you like the upgrade, which was done on urgent notice due to database failure and we started from this morning's backup. We apologise for some deleted posts and users, wrong settings and possible bugs. Since our previous forum was 5-6 years old, upgrade is tremendous but we will try to keep it similar on function level. There was a plan for redesign but this will be done once in the future. Enjoy!

Now the picture is complete, and it's better news than the September note suggested. Three things in Firefox's own code: 1. There's a fallback chain already, and it's three deep. CreateTexture tries zero-copy import first; if that fails it has CreateTextureViaCopyYUV for NV12 and CreateTextureViaCopyP010 for 10-bit. 2. Those fallbacks already use the external-texture machinery — the exact mechanism a whole-frame import needs: aGLContext->fBindTexture(LOCAL_GL_TEXTURE_EXTERNAL, srcTex); aGLContext->fEGLImageTargetTexture2D(LOCAL_GL_TEXTURE_EXTERNAL, mEGLImage[aPlane]); So Firefox can bind a dma-buf as an external texture. It just does it …

Hi, I was just in the armbian matrix channel asking about FLOSS SBCs, SBCs which can be booted / operated without blobs or with as few blobs as possible. I am not one of those purist Stallmanite zealots who refuse to touch anything which i deem imperfect in the freedom department. Instead I am just trying to be practical and figure out whats the best options for SBCs which respect users. SBCs whose security/integrity is verifiable and doesn't hinge on appeals to authority, like "just trust our secret sauce, it will be fine". I want to know about any projects from the past, things that are in progress, and hear experiences from folks who are interested in open s…

https://www.pine64.org/pinephone/ Free software is software you may use, share, modify and redistribute. Replicant has decided to investigate if they can port a replicant version to the phone. Replicant has said, they know of no phone better about free software. All modems on the market require non free software. Same about the modem in the pinephone. A downside of the pinephone is the wifi card, 8723cs, because it requires non free firmware software. On pinephone's irc I was told, they went for the 8723cs because pinephone could find no viable free software supported sdio wifi card. Is it the case, there…

So I'm working on a generic way to do MMIO GPIO on Armbian and chatting with @diozeroit seems like a wiringPi implementation is a good place to start for ideas. Armbian supports many FriendlyArm boards, so I took a look at https://github.com/friendlyarm/WiringNP. Of course out of the box it fails because it's probing for things found only in its home made OS distros. I found a way to hack the getBoardType function to hard code your board type for Armbian and probably other distros. This will work only on the board you hack it for. Honestly there should have been a way to pass in a parameter to override the detection code. In any event here's the method to use. …

It's *amazing* what you can find reading the Armbian documentation! I dig the shell, even old-school in a virtual terminal or minimal server type setup. Normally that means going through some squinty-eyed hoops to get the Terminus console font installed with larger sizes in the first place on large monitors. Wait - what's this? sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup I did this in a virtual terminal, and allowed setup to pick the right character set for me. Then I blasted the framebuffer with the largest Terminus font size allowed. Perfection! Not a big deal to most, but having this be part of the standard distrib…

I run Armbian on a SanDisk 64GB micro SD card -- using it on Asus TB. Most of the SD card is free space and while I want to keep Armbian as is for the TB, I want to create a multi-OS folder for music and photos. I.e. to use on Android phone, Win PC, Linux Mint computer, etc. Are there any Armbian drawbacks to creating/having such a folder? If not, should I use Armbian to create the empty folder (henceforth, it will be filled with files from multiple devices)? Is there a "best" location to create this generic folder within the Ambian OS card--i.e., as a sub-folder of a default Armbian directory?

Hi, I'm developing a port (or "platform") for the Godot game engine that targets single board computers and I would really appreciate some feedback. I have already posted on reddit, but I got no replies so far: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_devices/comments/8a3to5/godot_export_template_frt_looking_for_feedback/ I was hoping maybe to have better luck posting here. Hi all, I am building an art project, and I love the hardware specs of Orange Pi PC for it. I have a graphical Java app (built in Processing) that runs on a HDMI display, and unsurprisingly it doesn't run well without a GPU. On RPi 3B+/Diet Pi I've got it up around 24 fps using KMS, and I'm happy with that performance, but now I'm porting it to the OPi so I'm kinda starting from scratch again. I am aware of the amazing work going on with Panfrost although I've had issues installing it on my board with Buster Desktop. In general Armbian on Orange Pi PC seems pretty great, amazing even. But I'm only getting about 1 frame every 5 seconds with my Java/Processing a…

Hello, I'm currently running Gentoo on my BananaPIs (M1). I'm using one as graphical Dashboard using DirectFB. Unfortunately, DirectFB is deprecated, not anymore supported and facing some compilation issue. Time to change. I tried with SDL configured with KMS but it's crashing. I don't want to install X because it will take ages to compile without any garanty it will work at the end. So ... probably the time to change. So, is DirectFB still supported on Armbian ? If not, is SDL2 working without X support. If not, with X support ? And if so, is X accelerated ? Thanks Laurent

I just wanted to support you in your move from ROM to Distro. Having up to date kernels, learning to make up to date kernels and absolutley great compile updates are what separate what you've been doing from other projects. I know quite well that it's not easy doing your own funky tech thing, and wish to congratulate you on seeing it through! Best wishes, a fan of your work! -Jake

I just have to share my method to test distros headless with my OdroidN2. The N2 boots eMMC before SD card, so what I did was to flash the SD card with an armbian distro and get it up and running. the SD card always shows up on mmcblk0 and the eMMC on mmcblk1. So it boots from SD when it can't find a bootloader on the eMMC. I can flash any image easily with dd if=image of=/dev/mmcblk1 and just do a reboot, and it will boot the eMMC. Whenever I want to test another image, i can just do dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mmcblk1 bs=1M count=1 to make the eMMC unbootable, causing it to start on the SD image on the next reboot. A very …

I received the BPI M2 Ultra a couple of days ago (thanks to Nora Lee for the board) and worked a while on the BSP to learn and apply some of our changes on the ov5640 driver to be able to use Auto Focus and see if i could get Guvcview working on it. Here are some of my findings: * Working with the BSP is very similar to what we were used to on the Cubieboard A10/A20 era, those who worked with BSP at that time will feel very comfortable. * As usual, the BSP used arm-linux-gnueabi to compile the u-boot and kernel, i think is the Android way, and parses FEX to build a DTB. (Thanks to my old dual-core PC running Lubuntu). * It is hard to know where to change in the …

Can anyone recomend any displays to be used with these boards? Current options i have are "modified keychain / photoframe" attached to usb bus and or standard HDMI devices im thinking along the lines of an LVDS displayor something driven from the GPIO pins, has anyone any experience with this or am i alone in the dark? Links would be good as this may also benefit others. EDIT : scratch that for the Opi-One, its a camera connector.. will stick with the hacked photoframe idea

Hello! Use case is mostly about turning the kitchen TV into a kitchen PC, with main purpose displaying some market charts while I'm cooking (doing this on a phone is a pain in the eyes). Someone might try eventually to browse facebooks or download movies on that TV, but that's not important. Software displaying such charts available for Linux and ARM is mostly Java platforms (I believe Java is architecture-independent, the applications at least, but I might be wrong), using 300-800 MB RAM and 10-30% on a low-end x86 CPU. The Orange Pi+ 2E seems like the best thing for such hobo desktop purpose, mostly because people's support for it, but the H5 SoC advertis…

One month ago I got on my OPi Zero Plus2 H5 only up to 816Mhz with armbian. In the past I got on this device up to 1.1GHz (1080000 cpufreq) with older armbian builds. @5kft Told me thats because frequencys greater than 816Mhz require 1.2v and the OPi Zero Plus2 H5 isnt/couldnt switch(ing) and would only run at 1.1v. So it seems the cpu-table is now more conservative than before. Yesterday I did see the same behaviour and my "older" non-LTS NanoPi Neo2 (H5 also). Because in September I edited the cpu-table less conservative for the OPi Zero Plus2 H5 I did test this also on the non-LTS NanoPi Neo2 and it worked like on the OPi Zero…

Ok, since moving from lighttpd to apache I have managed to get everything configured and working happily on my little server (Odroid HC1) So, I'd like to back up the sata drive that contains the root file system and the user data. I'm looking for advice on the best way of doing this? It will be backed up initially to another USB external 2.5" drive, then perhaps just the user data to a cloud service (not sure yet). Also, I should probably back up the microSD card to right? Ideally, along with protecting my user data I am aiming to be able to get the server back up and running in the case that I do something wrong with a future update or install or conf…

I've been doing some armbian graphics work and tried to track down a brand guide. If I remember correctly, I found some information at Github (fonts, logo, colors?), that was going in that direction. I documented what I found while doing some youtube graphics (see attached). Use case: simple NAS Boards to consider: anything with at least UASP, better yet, USB 3.0 or SATA. But stability (under heavy disk I/O and load average) matters over speed! Also, Gigabit Ethernet is a must. For all the SBC's which are listed as Supported, to what degree can I trust that I won't get kernel freezes, or filesystem errors, when disk I/O gets thick and furious? I completely understand if the disk I/O slows down to a crawl, as the load average gets high, but I'm wanting to feel assured that a board marked as Supported won't "flake out" on me, potentially destroying all my files, should I decide to use it for a simple NAS. Here is…

Hello. I want to do HDMI-in to CSI with ADV7611. But have problems with DT overlay. I'm a newbie. I can build img with activated module adv7611 in menuconfig. Even applying thermal patch cpu temperature stays at 80+C which initiates core shutdown. Currently I am on armbian 5.04 and ambient temperature is 33C which may go upto 45. I am working on video streams with OP that consumes lots of CPU and other resource which triggers temperature. Planning to stream from moving vehicle (OP will be fitted in moving vehicle). Please help/guide me to select heat sink which should accept some vibrations and jerks from vehicle. Note : OP don't have provision like screw hole or attachment for heat sink. Thanks, Yogesh

Hi guys, I guess some might have heard that we (Kobol Team) were spinning a new project to succeed to Helios4. Here it is... Helios64 We didn't have to look too far for the board name since in essence the goal was to redesign from scratch Helios4 with a 64-bit SoC and try to improve every key features that made Helios4 a very targeted board for NAS setup. Right now we are at the prototyping test phase, hopefully in a 2 month time will have dozen of Eval boards to send around for evaluation and review... and if all goes well first batch should be available for order in Feb / March 2020. Happy to answer an…

Dear community, I'm trying to build Armbian for radxa E25. I'm using the repository provided in this merge request: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/4718 So I pulled https://github.com/krachlatte/radxa-e25 and launched compilation using ./compile.sh BOARD=radxa-e25 RELEASE=jammy BRANCH=edge KERNEL_ONLY=yes But compilation failed with: OBJCOPY u-boot-nodtb.bin start=$(ccache aarch64-none-linux-gnu-nm u-boot | grep __rel_dyn_start | cut -f 1 -d ' '); end=$(ccache aarch64-none-linux-gnu-nm u-boot | grep __rel_dyn_end | cut -f 1 -d ' '); tools/relocate-rela u-boot-nodtb.bin 0x00a00000 $start $end ./"arch/arm/mach-rockc…

Hi. I want to experiment building own WiFi-router so it definitely need stable Ethernet and WiFi. Next I want build something like home automation withing this board, so I think it should have a 2GB ram and A53 cores(64bit+performant). Think Sata is not important yet. Maybe way later I will try casting something to tv via WiFi(not HDMI). Of course I'm looking at OPi win plus/prime or Nanopi k2. They are very cheap, but are they of enough quality? Or I should choose something else?

Hi, my Cubieboard 1 was burned, so I'm looking for next board. What I need: - ownCloud (newer had yet); - MPD; - spdif; - SATA (alternatively via USB?); - maybe simple www server. I don't need video , but I would like to connect some extra modules, like nRF24L01 radio via SPI or alphanumeric LCD via IIC etc. Odroid C2 is powerful, but without SPI, SATA and audio outputs. So maybe C1+? A20-OLinuXino-LIME2 is OK, but Allwinner again... What else? And the most important thing: Armbian:)

HI, sorry if I bother the community so much. Is there a way (I'm sure that is) to setup armbian without DE and without eth connection? I've noticed that I need wired connection to launch armbian-config. Can I do the same with a wifi USB stick? How? If I want to use armbian as wireless AP, do I need to install the DE? Can you guide me? Thank you in advance

Hello All, I was wondering if I could get some help with this project https://github.com/jhdewitt/sltk This is a tool to do structured light 3d scans with a webcam and a projector. Currently the only way that I found to do this is with $1000+ commercial scanner. John De Witt is just a single developer and I am just a tester with limited skills. I currently have the tools compiling now on a s905x box with Armbian on it. I have compiled the tools but i am struggling with helping on the coding part and relaying information effectively and getting them to run properly on other hardware. This tool would bring structur…

Hello Armbian Forum! I hope you are all well. It's been more than 5 years since I last visited here, a lot of things has changed in my life since then. I saw my posts complaining about apt speed, that I could get 200kbps speed, now I am building +200gbps infrastructures for tens of thousands of servers. I felt a little bit of nostalgia visiting this forum because of that. And here I am, just I wanted to say hi! I hope you all also had a great time in the last 5 years just like me.

I never know what to get anyone. If I'm being honest I have more than a little disdain for how commercialized the holidays have become nowadays. We were not raised in a materialistic way growing up. A lot of gifts were socks and other actually useful things like that (which I only appreciate now as I get older ). Anyway... So when some of the guys shared some pictures of themselves with some Armbian swag in IRC a while back, a little light bulb went off in my head. So this morning, I went nuts and spent > 400 USD sending everyone in my family some Armbian swag. I figure, it's a good way to get the word out there to friends and family ab…

Hi all! I'm happily using Armbian on Cubieboard2 working as home server (samba, 4(!) LXC containers with Deluge, tor, owncloud and some other small apps) + VPN client. Pretty happy with it, especially for internal SATA. Recently found that Cubietech releases Cubieboard6 on S-500 CPU with same form-factor and SATA. That means, that all casing/housing can stay intact. LXC containers also can be migrated since CPU is still ARMv7. But at the same time found somewhere on this forum, that board is not really good quality... Cannot argue or agree with this since I don't have a board and it looks costly. So my question - what is advis…

spent most of today trying to get a USB-wifi adapter working on my OrangePiOne... connman_ctl wpa_supplicant (with and without wpa_cli), iw... you name it, I've probably tried it. Then, when restarting for the umpteenth time, in a rare moment of diminished stupidity, I actually read the "message of the (every) day" which is shown when you login successfully, It mentioned 'armbian-config' ... which i decided to give a try... Five minutes later I had working wifi - which works again after a restart without further configuration! So, a note to myself: be sure to RTFM (= Read the Fabulous Message of the day)! At least this was on my home pr…

Hi all. How many years people can count on support of 32 bit mini PC? (OS + repository ) For example Orange Pi: Allwinner H2+ Quad-core Cortex-A7 Is it worth to buy 64 bit ARM ? Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I've a minimal LINUX on a ARM board here (COREELEC on an ODROID N2). It does not use any 'apt--' based software control system. ( I do not know how its actually called ...) I would like to add all the tools of ARMBIAN and its rich software kingdom into this minimal LINUX. COREELEC does not know about 'apt' by purpose and thats' fair enough and respected. And there are lots of reason to discuss why to do so or not. But that is beyond the scope of this thread. Any hint would be helpfull. Thanks Gerry

There is an opensource wm that I'd like to use with Armbian. I have compiled and installed it, but would like to have it as a package. I have forked a repo that makes a .deb of this wm and built it with Shippable (so aarch64). I don't have any Debian mirror to host it... so... What is the standard way to build a package for Armbian? There are also other libraries/tools (like pacman, libarchive) that I have compiled (because I could not find them)... Thanks.

Hi. Firstly, is anyone working on building Armbian for the Quartz64? If no one else is I would love to give it a try. What I already have:- A Quartz64 running slarm64 (or the default manjaro) Kernel source for above and a dtb file. A build environment that seems to work (I just built an image for Rock 3a on it). Can anyone give me some ideas on how I clone an existing device in the build environment and start modifying it so that it can build something new? I notice that the legacy kernel that it produced for the Rock 3a is version 4.19.193 which looks good for the Quartz64 as well. The advantage of this older …

I'm running Armbian on my ARM-based single-board computer, and I would like to create a bootable live image from my current installation. This way, I can use the image to boot other devices with the same configuration, software, and customizations that I've set up on my current system. I've looked through the Armbian documentation, but I couldn't find a straightforward guide on how to accomplish this task. Can someone please provide step-by-step instructions on how to create a bootable live image from my current Armbian installation? Ideally, I'd like to be able to create an image file (e.g., .img or .iso) that I can write to a USB drive or an SD card, making it…
