  1. I recently updated my Orange Pi Zero Plus to the 5.3 Kernel and since then it failed a few times. I tried to find the reason why it hangs, and when connected using ssh, I get the message kernel:[ 275.633561] thermal thermal_zone0: critical temperature reached (100 C), shutting down After seeing this, I started a program that generates load and watched the temperature and CPU in htop. Temperature goes up to 100°, but the CPU stays at 1.3Ghz. After downgrading to kernel 4.19.63 it works as expected again. Temperature raises, but then the CPU speed is limited, first to 1.01Ghz, then 960MHz and then temperature is always low enough to stay at …

  2. I have a problem with my wireguard implementation. When connected through it I get lag spikes every few seconds. What might be the cause and solution to this? It is not the internet connection/cable/etc because a raspberry pi running wireguard works fine on the same exact cable, port etc.

  4. I made an application with opengles which works correctly in armbian xenial 3.4.113, I always have 40 or 50 fps, also if I run the es2gears program it gives me a constant 300 fps, I wanted to change to a more current kernel and download armbian buster, but here my program runs at 5 or 6 fps, and es2gears does not exceed 30 fps. I was reading the posts on the subject in the forums and I found that installing the lima driver activated 3d acceleration, but I could not make it work. Some information that can help me activate 3d acceleration with kernel 5.8 I am using an orange pi one thanks: D

  5. I just upgraded (using a fresh image with the 5.69 image) one of my SOPINE A64 modules from Armbian Xenial - legacy kernel 3.10.y to Armbian Bionic - mainline kernel 4.19.y. The onboard ethernet will no longer work. The sopine module is connected to a clusterboard instead of a sopine baseboard, but the NIC is on the module so it should not make a difference. On Xenial 3.10.y kernel the driver loaded for the NIC is the sunxi_geth driver, on bionic 4.19.y kernel it is the st_mac100 driver. Here is the output of the lshw for 4.19.y *-network:0 description: Ethernet interface physical id: 6 logical name: eth0 seria…

  7. I know it's not an officially supported board, but it's been working really well so far, so I'll give it a shot. Today I updated my kernel to 5.9.0-sunxi (coming from 5.9.0-rc7-sunxi) and after rebooting the (wired) network was dead. Everything looked fine, ethernet driver is loaded, interfaces were up and had IP addresses, but packets were not being sent. Pinging anything but the Banana Pi itself says "destination host unreachable". Routes were set and looked correct - even tho they should not even be necessary as I was pinging the gateway. tcpdump on eth0 showed nothing at all, almost as if the kernel doesn't know where to send the packets. Anyon…

  8. OK, being away for a while and having 5.x kernel and sunxi_cedrus around I need some directions. I had some embedded 3.x desktop installations in a community museum showing videos (using mpv after a button press) which need revising. So I decided to update the firmware/scripts etc. These are Orange Pi One's... In the past I installed 3.x desktop version as it has better video acceleration. What should I do now? I don't see a focal desktop in downloads. Is it OK to use the focal server, install xfce4 on top of it? Will I have video acceleration? I've been using HEVC .mkv files... Hello ! I have a problem with an OrangePi Zero under Armbian Buster with mainline kernel (5.8). I need to put the module snd-aloop as primary soundcard (index=0), and the integrated soundcard sun4i-codec as index=1. It worked very well with kernel 5.4 and before. I just had to load the snd-aloop module by adding it to /etc/modules and add "options snd-aloop index=0" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf. But now this is impossible, snd-aloop doesn't load. I had this message when I try to load it manually : modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'snd_aloop': No such device After reading configuration file of the kernel, I saw that the module sun4i-codec (integrat…

  13. Hi there, I want to migrate system on OPi PC+ from 32GB uSD card to 16GB card. System is small enough to fit on 16GB, but too large for 8GB eMMC (amazingly fast according dd). How to do it? My idea is: - copy (raw, using dd) first 8192 sectors from 32GB to 16GB, - then remove partition (32GB) and recreate it with 16GB size, format using same EXT filesystem, - copy (on another computer, or "simple" Armbian installed on eMMC) partition contents using rsync. Will it work? Will there be no issue with different UUID of new partition?

Greetings, Some time ago, I built armbian with kernel 5.4.51. I applied a patch to two dts files that allowed for the OV5640 camera to work. By "work", I mean /dev/video0 was present in the system and /dev/media0 was also present. I could set camera parameters with media-ctl pointing to /dev/media0. Now, I've updated, and using a legacy kernel, 5.4.65, I cannot reproduce this. I've applied the same dts changes, but upon booting this image /dev/media0 is missing. I've compared the two kernel configurations, and there are very minimal differences: # diff config-5.4.51-sunxi /boot/config-5.4.65-sunxi 3c3 < # Linux/arm 5.4…

  23. Hi all, I'm new here at the Armbian board. I operate a self made house automation based on a Raspberry using a self written PHP server and Homegear. To have a better wireless connection to a differential temperature sensor, I built a Homegear Gateway based on a Nano Pi Neo with Armbian OS and a 868 MHz CC1101 module. For the network connection I use a Realtek USB WLAN NIC (Realtek RTL8188EUS-Chipset). Most of the time the gateway works. But around 2-3 times per week the gateway hangs and I cannot log on anymore. Hi all. Firstly, sorry I had posted this query in the wrong forum. I´m trying to add support for a raw SPI comunication through SPI0, as it´s a custom comunication with a little auxiliary board, I think best option is to have a spidev device. My scenario is: Banana pi m2 ultra Armbian 5.4.35-sunxi, server (No gui). I have been modifying .dts and .dtsi files, here are parts of the files that I modified: sun8i-r40.dtsi spi0_pins: spi0-pins { pins = "PC0", "PC1", "PC2"; function = "spi0"; }; spi0: spi@1c05000 { compatible = "allwinner,sun8i-spi"; device_type = "spidev"; reg = …

But when in go to /sys/class/pwm i got a empty directory. I thought the should be a device pwmchip0 or something. I searched on the internet but can´t find a solution. This is what WiringOrangePi shows: Is there someone who knows what i do wrong or hwat i should do? Thank you!

  50. Hello, Earlier on this week I decided to upgrade the kernel and the DTBs on my Armbian cluster (quite a few different boards but all of them based on Allwinner A20) from buster-next-5.92 to buster-current-20.08.2. Having successfully completed the upgrade on several other servers, I moved on to the lime2 one - which promptly failed to come back up after the reboot. Connecting the serial console shows u-boot doing its thing without issues and the kernel beginning to boot, producing normal messages - only to suddenly freeze. When exactly the freeze occurs varies, sometimes it even happens halfway through outputting a message line - but it is definitely before th…

I successfully installed Armbian 20.08.1 to eMMC, and it works fine. Now, I want to try Raspberry OS (I'm told that it works?) but regardless of what I put on my uSD card (I've tried several OS's) - when rebooting the OPi 3+, it always comes up with the eMMC Armbian load. In researching this, I read over and over that the uSD card always has priority over the eMMC. Is this still true with the current version of Armbian? What could explain the behavior I'm seeing? I tried the Install to/update booth loader, both option, with no change in behavior. Any thoughts?

The resolution I set in armbian-config is 1680x1050, but it is different from resolution that Stella uses, when I launch it on the startup. It uses the resolution defined in FEX. So I checked https://linux-sunxi.org/Fex_Guide#disp_init_configuration and tried various resolutions, but dont know which of them is 16:10 and what is the exact resolution. For example 576p can mean anything. How can I find it out? Thank you very much.

They are not listed in armbian-config, cpufreq-set is unable to set them, and dmesg includes lines like: [ 10.030991] core: _opp_supported_by_regulators: OPP minuV: 1320000 maxuV: 1320000, not supported by regulator [ 10.031017] cpu cpu0: _opp_add: OPP not supported by regulators (1104000000) [ 10.031305] core: _opp_supported_by_regulators: OPP minuV: 1320000 maxuV:…

hello everyone, I managed to make a WaveShare's 3.5" SPI LCD (actually designed for arduino) work on NanoPi Neo Core running on armbian Bionic 4.19.57, but now i"m having some issues with the touchpanel (using the same SPI). i'm trying to figure out how where to connect the touchpanel cs pin, which from what i have read suppose to connect to CE1. could someone help me find out which pin is it? maybe this will help: root@nanopineo:~# dmesg | grep "spi0.1" [ 8.334791] spi spi0.1: spidev spi0.1 1000kHz 8 bits mode=0x00 [ 8.335492] spi spi0.1: spidev spi0.1 1000kHz 8 bits mode=0x00 [ 8.348670] ads7846_device: spidev spi0.1 1000…

  93. Hi there, as I've connected my laptop e-mail client (Thunderbird) to my OPi3 I started to receive strange emails "from root ("cron daemon") to root": Subject "Cron <root@orangepi3> /usr/lib/armbian/armbian-truncate-logs" "error: syslog-ng:8 lines must begin with a keyword or a filename (possibly in double quotes) error: unattended-upgrades:10 lines must begin with a keyword or a filename (possibly in double quotes)" What should I do? Line 8 in armbian-truncate-logs is comment, so error is not there.

  94. Hi there, just got OPi3 (4x 1.8GHz, 2GB RAM, eMMC), and I have (probably) issue with display settings (resolution / refresh rate?). I have an 1280x1024@60Hz VGA monitor, connected to an KVM switch (VGA+USB), then to HDMI->VGA converter. It worked OK for my 2 OPiPC+. Now what happens when I connect OPi3 instead od one of OPiPC+: - installed "OOB" Armbian Buster for OPi3, (server), - during initial startup there was NO question about monitor resolution (differs from initial startup for PC+), - only login / new user dialog. - now screen "flickers", text mode for few seconds, then blank screen, "power" LED of monitor is lit, like there is…

  95. Hello, I am trying to communicate with a mcp2515 breakout (8Mhz oscillator) on an Orange Pi Pc+ I have modified the breakout following info on Raspberry Pi: HowTo/Quickstart MCP2515 to keep logic level @3v I have two other nodes composed by two Arduinos, with same (not modified) breakout, one that transmits the other receives. I have successfully tested the first breakout (used on OPi) with an Arduino (powered by 3.3v and 5v on TJA1050). It lets me think that hardware is OK. Below photos of wiring (nb: orange wire becomes red, is wired near TJA1050 = 5v): It seems I have the same results with (edited) user_overl…

  98. Hi, I'm having some instability issues with WiFi driver on Orange Pi Zero Plus, it uses RTL8189FTV instead of buggy XR819 chip. Some times it just works fine, but that's not always the case, some times when I turn on the board the driver is not able to turn on the WiFi chip, and it keeps stuck in a limbo state... The kernel identify the network device as (wlan0), but it's impossible to turn on or connect to any network. sudo dmesg | grep -Ei '(8192eu|rtl|wl|realtek)' [ 236.057560] RTL871X: Failed to init Power On!
