My current setup is the tinkerboard powered by the raspberry pi universal adapter connected to ethernet and a external HDD(Maxtor M3) powered by the Tinkerboard's usb. I have used it very lightly in this configuration (ssh-ing into it and copying some files to the hdd) but from what I have gathered from the information available here this powering setup is inedequate and will lead to problems. So I want to follow the recommended method and power it through the GPIO pins. I am considering using this or this powersupply. (I realize 10A on the second one is overkill for the tinkerboard, but the price difference from the 3A rated one is minimal and I could find some othe…

Hi, On the download page of Tinker board "Ethernet driver needs some fixing" is listed as known issue. Are there any details about? What is the problem with the ethernet? Who should fix it? (Asus, armbian) Are there any plans for fixing it? I'm asking it, because I would like to use my tinker board as a headless 24/7 home cloud. Thank you!

There's a few problems with the UART driver on 5.0-rc2 kernels, since proper checks are not done correctly and lead to a Null Pointer dereference. Here's a patch to avoid this issue : From 7e43ae8446b420907f00b43308ad0b99b6fe4e51 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: "Miouyouyou (Myy)" <myy@miouyouyou.fr> Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2019 23:58:52 +0100 Subject: [PATCH] drivers: tty: serial: Bail out if no UART is detected Before the 5.0, serial8250_register_8250_port consisted of one BIG if(uart && uart->port.type != PORT_8250_CIR) block, which prevented NULL dereference if uart, a pointer to an "uart_8250_port" detected through "serial8250_find_ma…

Hello, I have 2 questions. 1. How long does the support for the tinkerboard takes. Because I'm using the Board as Server and i don't need much CPU Power but I don't like to buy every 2-4 years a new board because the support ended. The reason of this question is, the odroid c1, there is no stretch image for this board. 2. Is there a good howto, how to build a kernel on a thinkerboard with own config? Reason for this question is, I have installed the latest armbian stretch server image on my tinker board and the kernel has no ebtables support. Second Reason ist question 1, build a own Kernel and update to Debian 10,11, ...., n.

Hi, I've got several tinkerboards that I've reproduced this problem on. I'm using the tinkerboard to do network tests, this includes iperf3 traffic, dns querys (dig), https and http (echoping), and ping. All of these tests runs against IPv6 targets and IPv4 targets. These tests are scheduled to very frequently (every other minute or so). To begin with, all tests run fine.. I get good results (~1gbit throughput / low latency / no packet loss). However, after running the tests for 15-20min, suddenly all traffic will more or less stop working (80-90% packet loss). This is no matter what I'm pinging, can be the local router, some target on the…

Hello, I'm trying to setup a hotspot on a tinkerboard S running bullseye. Following the procedure from https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Advanced-Features/ at the point where it requires: 2. Hello, I am using the latest Desktop Armbian and use the internal wifi and a usb wifi stick (edimax ew 7811-un). Both devices are detected by network-manager. So, if you use the mainline DTSI files, you'll encounter an issue when loading the Mali Midgard GPL kernel module, since the main ARM kernel maintainers changed how the "compatible" properties of Midgard GPU nodes should be defined. Don't ask me why, they created an entire documentation stating that now the Mali Midgard GPU nodes have to harbour the chip series number, a vendor-specific statement, and drop the "arm,mali-midgard" property. The additions are nice, since they allow a quick detection of the chip number and the chip vendor using /sys nodes names. However, turns out that the Mali kernel driver used the dropped property to detect the GPU. So, I've …

Just got my new tinkerboard powered up with armbian. For some reason I could not get anything after build 1.3 off the Asus site to boot! Anway, first impressions good, however in the graphics settings it seems to max out at 1920 x 1080 whilst on paper the tinkerboard is supposed to support 4k. I'll admit I am new to linux so perhaps i'm missing something ovbious, but if someone could explain how I can up the resolution to 3,840 x 2,160 that would be great. For the avoidance of doubt I have it connected to an Acer 27" 4k monitor.

Hi I have a Philips pcf8563 RTC that connects to i2c-1. Could you please add support for RTC modules please particularly the pcf8563 and the DS1307 as these seem to be the most popular although some more models would be welcome. I have been trying to create a dtb with a previous kernel that included the needed modules but failed to get it to compile. I even tried adding it to the main device tree with no such luck. I know it's not been talked about much but would love to get RTC working on the tinkerboard. For those that haven't noticed the RK808 power management chip on the tinkerboard has RTC capability built in and even has the drive…

Whats the correct way to get the Armbian build to spit boot out as a separate fat partition at the start of the image? Im just getting started with Armbian (on tinker board) and want to integrate it into by own build system. I need to generates SD card images with 3 different configs building 3 separate installs sharing a common multiboot 512MB fat boot partition. I dont need the Armbian build to do the multiboot or manage the boot partition at all, I just want to be able to extract the root & boot fs at the end of the build process.

Hi there Board, I have bought my Tinkerboard after some good research with my fellow techies at Red Hat and reading thoroughly that 19+pages Tinkerboard Thread. After crafting a super lean/mean kernel (kconfig at https://gist.github.com/rfrht/5f0fa113f12fbacf832e57ff4967785a ), I got a stable and lightweight kernel configuration. Things got a lot funnier when doing some compatibility tests with specific Asterisk versions, I was able to install and run cleanly a Raspi .DEB pkg. And that got me thinking. I have now JUST replaced the Raspberry Pi with the Tinkerboard. And guess what: It was a _inplace_ upgrade! Using the same u…

i'm stuck with this since day 1 but now i upgraded to armbian (with kodi-gbm) i had this problem worse stress testing the board with stress -c 4 doesn't bring the board into shutdown, but logging in to kodi-gbm or using graphical interface? it brings instability all of a sudden. there's no inherent pattern from the shudowns except when i launch kodi or access some files (emby transcoding doesn't cause any instability). anything outside the text mode should cause it to shutdown. weirdly enough, when i removed the USB peripherals (2xUSB HDD, own power supply for both cases) the instability worsens and doesn't boot or sometimes reboot cycle after fsck.ext4 on sta…

Hi, has any of you some experience connecting a Hifiberry Amp+ to a Tinkerboard - on Hifiberry pages this is now a possible connecting but I miss a howto and would really appreciate a quick start on this. Have previously succeed with Raspberry 3 and IQaudio - but intend to take a step further and do a project being more than just an amplifier. After testing several OS I have to admit Armbian has become my favorite and it is within this OS I hope to achieve this.

Hello, I own a Tinker Board S (bought one or two years ago) attached to a Sony Bravia KDL 22EX320 TV by HDMI, which has a native resolution of 1388x768 pixels. Bionic desktop with kernel 5.4 (got from https://dl.armbian.com/tinkerboard/Bionic_current_desktop) didn't properly recognize the TV resolution, but set it to 1920x1024. If I run xrandr --props the resolution is not listed. I'm posting because I'm almost sure that the old TinkerOS 2.0.8 (that I installed with the board) recognized the TV resolution correctly - it anyway boots to desktop without requiring interaction, so not being able to read the text at the edges of the console …

So I have downloaded several versions of Armbian for Tinkerboard using BullsEye and Yammy. Not one creates a working Access Point. The Bullseye version ends with a message that the hotspot has been activated but nothing appears. The yammy version fails with a message there is no usable driver for hostapd. It appears there are a lot of issues with this function. Why not leave it out or document which boards the feature doesn't support. It would save a lot of time going down rabbit holes.

This will be a catch-all for HDMI-related things. Sep. 29, 2017 UPDATE First up is hotplugging in Mainline. Script/rule added to build system. I could hook a script to the event, but I'm not exactly sure what I would tell it to do... Any thoughts would be great, I'll be researching.

*Updated 7-23* ~~All kernels should be fixed at this point, Legacy, Next, and Dev.~~ The ASUS Tinker Board has a big problem with rebooting properly, centered around the SD card power supplies. Upon issuing a shutdown request, the kernel is turning everything off , including the vmmc regulator. To make matters worse, vqmmc is set to 1.8 Volts if you use a UHS SD card, and the kernel is not switching it back to 3.3 volts before rebooting, which is required if the Rockchip boot ROM is to communicate with the device. The result is a hung board in MaskROM mode. For the Default kernel (4.4), a patch was carried over from the vendor softwa…

Hey, I’m running armbian on a tinkerboard and I need to connect to a CAN-bus. Apparently the usual Linux CAN-kernel-modules aren’t shipped with armbian, so I guess I’ll have to add them manually somehow. I`ve been trying to do that for two days now without any luck. I’ve been trying to follow the steps described in other forums, but it haven’t helped. I really just want to add the necessary modules to my existing kernel. Any ideas?

Good evening, last week they changed the electric meter in my building, but in order to do so they cut the power, and my Tinkerboard (the first model, the one issued back in 2017, Asus first's SBC), that I use as my "Save for later, and never look at it again" network folder, suffered. It continued to reboot from some kernel panic, which I forgot to take note; but since it hadn't been upgraded to jammy, I took the opportunity to do it. Pluging in the uSD card (with the newly released jammy version, just downloaded here), power, and all (including the ethernet cord!!), first boot I have to create my user (which, for some reasons refuses to let me put my usual fr3d tag…

Hello I cannot enable the Bluetooth on Tinkerboard device. Tried latest image, fresh install. I've opened the question on StackOverflow: https://superuser.com/questions/1698728/cannot-enable-bluetooth-on-tinkerboard-armbian It contains technical details. The latest what I've found so far is it could be related to Kernel compilation flags: # Extract from the /boot/config-5.10.60-rockchip CONFIG_SERIAL_DEV_BUS=y CONFIG_BT_HCIUART_3WIRE=y CONFIG_BT_HCIUART_SERDEV=y # CONFIG_BT_HCIUART_RTL - is not set # CONFIG_SERIAL_DEV_CTRL_TTYPORT - is not set I tried to download and compile the kernel and stuck. Basically I do…

Hi, I spent several days trying to figure this out, which is a bit confusing given all the information that is available and posts and wikis saying that "Waveshare" LCDs are supposed to work, but something is still not right, hope you guys can help. What I have: ASUS Tinker Board S, flashed with Armbian_5.90_Tinkerboard_Debian_buster_default_4.4.182_desktop.img Updated to 4.19.57-rockchip via armbian-config (in order to get the fbtft* modules that were missing in 4.4). The LCD is a 3.5" original Waveshare 32a panel. I started by adding the overlay for this screen (i.e. my armbianEnv.txt has these overlays: overlays=i2c1 i…

I installed Armbian 23.11 Bookworm Kernel 6.1, Size: 482Mb, Release date: Nov 30, 2023. After installation, a CH340 based board was connected to my original Tinkerboard and recognized. Subsequently, I used armbian-config to provide the default desktop (Cinnamon flavor). Thereafter, the CH340 board is incompletely recognized. Specifically, no device is presented as /dev/ttyUSB?. The device appears in the list from lsusb, the kernel module ch341.ko loads, but no device in /dev. The forum search shows a previous instance of a similar issue many years back. I attempted to build the driver from wch.cn, but the kernel sources pulled from armbian-config were for the Linux tinker…

Hello everyone, I've begun working to target the Armbian Legacy Tinker Board build to the Rockchip kernel. There are a list of reasons why it needs done, including some relatively large differences between the current kernel's code base and the Rockchip kernel (making it hard to patch with bugfixes/etc) and inactivity on the part of the vendor of that kernel. There are also reasons I am preferring to use the Rockchip kernel rather than the ASUS kernel. First and formost is the need to also support the MiQi. The miniarm branch of Rockchip and the ASUS kernel have board-specific fixes written in such a way as to not be friendly to other boards. I've dec…

Hello, I am using the lastest stable mainline kernel and would like to change my mac address before network-manager is started. I tried to change the mac address of wlan1 (which is an Edimax usb wifi stick) which works, but wlan0 (Tinkerboard internal wifi chip) gives me the message: Network driver didn't actually change to the new MAC!! Does it have something to do with the drivers used on Armbian? I am using sudo macchanger --mac 02:02:03:04:05:06 wlan0 Thanks for help.

In order to review the Tinker Board boot logs via serial console, I set up armbianEnv.txt to get the logs. But Armbian didn't output anything. Can anyone tell me what is wrong? As long as I reviewed boot.cmd, the serial port was assigned to /dev/ttyS2. So I used UART2 GPIO pins (GP7C7 for TX, GP7C6 for RX) to interact. (snip) if test "${console}" = "serial" || test "${console}" = "both"; then setenv consoleargs "console=ttyS2,115200n8 ${consoleargs}"; fi (snip) The barudrate is 115200. Of course, I re-checked my connection between USB-UART serial cable and UART2 GPIO pins (USB-UART RX to GP7C7TX, USB-UART TX to GP7C6 RX). Any infor…

Hello people, I am trying to set CPU Governors but all the cores change to the same clock and cpufreq-info reports "CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0 1 2 3", with that even one thread working is making the CPU scale up all clocks and heat more than it should, is there a way to unlink them and each one have their own clocks according to each core processing load?

As https://www.armbian.com/tinkerboard/ has a quite fresh 4.14 Linux kernel (in Armbian Stretch Next Desktop 5.50) I am trying to use that instead of the standard TinkerOS 2.0.7 with a 4.4.103 kernel. However, Armbian is configured to provide only spidev2.0, while TinkerOS can have spidev0.0, spidev0.1, spidev2.0 and spidev2.1 all enabled at the same time as long as you disable UART4 which shares GPIO header pins with SPI0. In the TinkerOS case, there is a config tool which edits a small and straightforward text file in /boot/ containing lines such as "intf:spi0=on" or "intf:uart4=off". The corresponding Armbian file seems to be /boot/armbianEnv.txt - possibly…

I just recently bought a sim5320a GSM/GPS cape for my Tinkerboard S and it requires the use of ttyS3; however, by default Armbian uses this port for console... so I'm unable to use it w/ the cape. What do I need to do to disable the console on this port to free it up? EDIT: Nvm... after reading more, this isn't my issue (although I did find the answer above, which is to edit the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file). It's (the GSM cape) connected to the GPIO, and I need to enable the UART serial on here. Hello people, I use a Tinker Board as a low power desktop computer for browsing, office documents and general tinkering, and after all this time it got personalized enough to worry about loosing all this setup and it is a hassle to just overwrite everything every time a new image comes around. Was wondering if it is possible to use apt dist-upgrade as means to get from Bionic Desktop 5.4 to Focal Desktop 5.4 as can be done on x86 platforms without breaking everything?

Hi there, I'm trying to install docker on my tinkerboard s running armbian 5.73. I've managed the following steps from your documentation: sudo apt-key adv --keyserver pool.sks-keyservers.net --recv-keys 0EBFCD88 sudo echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu bionic stable" > sudo /etc/apt/sources.list.d/docker.list sudo apt update But when i tried to install docker using: sudo apt install docker-ce I'm getting the error that docker-ce has no installation candidate. Does anyone maybe have an idea how to get this working? Thank you.

Hi! I'm using Tinkerboard S R2.0 in headless mode, but with LightDM (kiosk mode). Hi, I tried to activate the SPI interface on a Tinkerboard2S. I used the last Armbian version (Armbian_community_25.2.0-trunk.110_Tinkerboard-2_bookworm_current_6.6.63_minimal). I edited the /boot/armbianEnv.txt and add the overlays, I found different parameters and all doesn't work, I tried: overlays=spi0 spi2 overlays=spi-spidev param_spidev_spi_bus=0 and via armbian-config: fdt_overlays=rockchip-rk3399-spi-spidev But with all approaches I didn't get a /dev/spi* device. Any ideas? TIA

Just reporting that there is some tx-offload bug in the ASUS Tinker Board Rockchip. I think I read about this issue regarding other rockchip/platforms when checksum offload bugs on large packets. When I run ethtool -K eth0 tx off I stop having issues with NFS over TCP The last part of diagnosis is when I forced a NFS crash by enabling tx offloading.

Hi. I need hardware OpenGL ES, at least 2.0. I’ve tried this https://github.com/rockchip-linux/libmali It works OK on latest Asus OS 2.0.1, but for Armbian 5.33 kernel 4.4.88 it doesn’t: ERROR: The DDK is not compatible with any of the Mali GPUs on the system. The DDK was built for 0x750 r0p0 status range [1..1], but none of the GPUs matched: Segmentation fault I don’t have much experience with Linux, but IMO it might mean the kernel + userland parts of the GPU driver are incompatible. Is there a working GPU driver for Mali-T76x on Armbian? Thanks in advance! Regards, Kosta.

I've adapted a set of patches from Urja Rannikko, which move the HDMI frequencies definition into the DTS file, with some preconfigured rates if none are defined in the DTS.
