Anyone here playing with USB network adapters? I have a (noname) USB3 Gigabit ethernet adapter which seems capped at 250 Mbps. I know the Tinkerboard only has USB 2.0 (so a theoretical maximum of 480 Mbps), just trying to see if there are better parts out there I could try.

Just as a notice the Raspberrry PI 7" DSI Touchscreen was working fine on Armbian with the 4.4 Kernel. Using the current Armbian for Tinkerboard and the 4.19 Kernel it does not work any longer, nor does it with the current development Kernel 5.1. Does there have to be any special things to be set to get it working again? On the 4.4 Kernel it was working out of the box. Thanx

Hello all, i have a pressing problem requiring urgent help. I am currently conducting my thesis with the Tinker Board and i have the Armbian Ubuntu desktop with the legacy kernel running. I noticed when i try to boot the system, it takes approximately 25 minutes to show the Login request in the CLI and after that, it creates the user account but instead of proceeding to the regular desktop page, it gets stock there and does not proceed. I will please like to know if anyone has an idea of how to solve this issue as i urgently need it to get running fast to run the tests needed for my thesis. Thanks.

Greetings, After setting my tinkerboard pins 22 and 24 as an Inputs, they reverts to being an output pin on HIgh after around 30 seconds. What is the cause of this? Is this some kind of feature. I don't have this happen on any other pin other than these 2. iomari

Is there an official way of installing libmali drivers on Armbian? I'm feeling a bit slow, since I can't really figure out how to install them. It seems like files from this github repo will overwrite other system files, so it's not a solution that would work in the long term.

Looking for a bit of advice... Been running Armbian CLI on the tinker (nonS) via SD card no problems Got an S with eMMC... Wrote tinkerOS and it loads no problems... Wrote Armbian image.... No go / boot Any suggestions on how to fix.... Thanks... There is a bit here which is what it used to re-write TinkerOS to the eMMC https://tinkerboarding.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Setup Really like the Armbian CLI versions as lightweight and without bloat.

Just got my Tinker Board S in... used Etcher to flash the following image to the eMMC: Armbian Stretch mainline kernel 4.14.y It won't boot. That same image flashed to the SD card boots just fine. I've tried using the armbian-config to install it to the eMMC that way; however, all I get are "There are no targets. Please check your drives." What the heck am I doin' wrong? New to the entire SBC realm, and got this instead of the Pi. I don't want a desktop distro installed... just a simple distro w/ bash. Any help would be appreciated... spent the last 6 hours trying to figure this out. This isn't the 'tinkering' I had in mind when I got this thing.…

Hello, I have 2 questions. 1. How long does the support for the tinkerboard takes. Because I'm using the Board as Server and i don't need much CPU Power but I don't like to buy every 2-4 years a new board because the support ended. The reason of this question is, the odroid c1, there is no stretch image for this board. 2. Is there a good howto, how to build a kernel on a thinkerboard with own config? Reason for this question is, I have installed the latest armbian stretch server image on my tinker board and the kernel has no ebtables support. Second Reason ist question 1, build a own Kernel and update to Debian 10,11, ...., n.

In order to review the Tinker Board boot logs via serial console, I set up armbianEnv.txt to get the logs. But Armbian didn't output anything. Can anyone tell me what is wrong? As long as I reviewed boot.cmd, the serial port was assigned to /dev/ttyS2. So I used UART2 GPIO pins (GP7C7 for TX, GP7C6 for RX) to interact. (snip) if test "${console}" = "serial" || test "${console}" = "both"; then setenv consoleargs "console=ttyS2,115200n8 ${consoleargs}"; fi (snip) The barudrate is 115200. Of course, I re-checked my connection between USB-UART serial cable and UART2 GPIO pins (USB-UART RX to GP7C7TX, USB-UART TX to GP7C6 RX). Any infor…

I logged an issue a little while ago with Armbian running on the Tinkerboard that the screen when rotated 90 degrees couldn't draw the screen at any speed. I have been playing with a few alternatives incl going back to the original tinkeros. All have issues so I was delighted to see the FOCAL port. I am using the recommended Waveshare 7" touchscreen that you advertise on the home page as tested 3rd party hardware. Both the desktop and the server versions of Focal come up with the error Configure crtc 0 failed setting mode when I manually set the supported resolution of 1024 x 600 at 60Hz using xrandr Exactly the same settings on TinkerOS works perfectl…

Hello people, I use a Tinker Board as a low power desktop computer for browsing, office documents and general tinkering, and after all this time it got personalized enough to worry about loosing all this setup and it is a hassle to just overwrite everything every time a new image comes around. Was wondering if it is possible to use apt dist-upgrade as means to get from Bionic Desktop 5.4 to Focal Desktop 5.4 as can be done on x86 platforms without breaking everything?

As https://www.armbian.com/tinkerboard/ has a quite fresh 4.14 Linux kernel (in Armbian Stretch Next Desktop 5.50) I am trying to use that instead of the standard TinkerOS 2.0.7 with a 4.4.103 kernel. However, Armbian is configured to provide only spidev2.0, while TinkerOS can have spidev0.0, spidev0.1, spidev2.0 and spidev2.1 all enabled at the same time as long as you disable UART4 which shares GPIO header pins with SPI0. In the TinkerOS case, there is a config tool which edits a small and straightforward text file in /boot/ containing lines such as "intf:spi0=on" or "intf:uart4=off". The corresponding Armbian file seems to be /boot/armbianEnv.txt - possibly…

So recently I decided to use my (quite old) tinker board, I downloaded the last armbian (desktop, 4.4.213) OS, managed to install a vncserver (x11vnc) and also to use it without a screen plugged in it. And now I would like to turn it into a urbackup server, but I got some error with mdadm, "Module md_mod not found in directory /lib/modules/4.4.213-rockchip". I tried to use this forum to find a solution (https://github.com/armbian/build), but I couldn't make it work. When i tipe ´´git clone https://github.com/armbian/build´´ it stop around 7% at resolving deltas, and it just freeze. Someone could have any idea how to solve this issue?? I've been (trying) to move the Tinker and MiQi u-boots to 2020.07, however if I use any of the following: A MiQi, A Tinker S an image for a Tinker S an image for a Tinker on a Tinker S I get stuck in the initramfs busybox with it telling me the filesystem is toast. The only 2020.07 combo I've gotten to boot is the Tinker with the non-eMMC supporting u-boot. As for clues, I haven't found any, the u-boot source code is of course very well organized for debugging purposes . If anyone has an idea about what could be going on with this let me know, I'm shelving the effort to think about other stuff.

I just recently bought a sim5320a GSM/GPS cape for my Tinkerboard S and it requires the use of ttyS3; however, by default Armbian uses this port for console... so I'm unable to use it w/ the cape. What do I need to do to disable the console on this port to free it up? EDIT: Nvm... after reading more, this isn't my issue (although I did find the answer above, which is to edit the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file). It's (the GSM cape) connected to the GPIO, and I need to enable the UART serial on here. Hi I have a Philips pcf8563 RTC that connects to i2c-1. Could you please add support for RTC modules please particularly the pcf8563 and the DS1307 as these seem to be the most popular although some more models would be welcome. I have been trying to create a dtb with a previous kernel that included the needed modules but failed to get it to compile. I even tried adding it to the main device tree with no such luck. I know it's not been talked about much but would love to get RTC working on the tinkerboard. So, if you use the mainline DTSI files, you'll encounter an issue when loading the Mali Midgard GPL kernel module, since the main ARM kernel maintainers changed how the "compatible" properties of Midgard GPU nodes should be defined. Don't ask me why, they created an entire documentation stating that now the Mali Midgard GPU nodes have to harbour the chip series number, a vendor-specific statement, and drop the "arm,mali-midgard" property. The additions are nice, since they allow a quick detection of the chip number and the chip vendor using /sys nodes names. However, turns out that the Mali kernel driver used the dropped property to detect the GPU. So, I've …

I have Tinker Board S. I have been using both Tinker OS and Armbian for a while. Recently I upgraded to 5.4.28-rockchip. I noticed that randomly and frequently when I watch cnn.com or other media, my video would freeze. Initially I thought the firefox or chromium crashes. However, later, I realized it was the network issue. Other devices were still able to connect to the internet. When I checked the ifconfig, the network devices still showed proper connection. However, there is no way to ping any URLs. Disconnecting/reconnecting network does not fix the issue. The only fix was reboot. How can I troubleshoot this issue? I was trying to do armbianmonitor but at …

Hi, since i have a Asus tinkerboard incoming i was wondering if anyone knows if the "generic" arm64 distro will work this board. Its based of the rockchip RK3288 SoC The support pages states that the board supports debian, but since i dont need a UI ect (im going to use it headless) i dont need the board to load a ui into memory and wanted to use a normal build instead of the TinkerOS Please note, my knowledge of the inner workings of *nix is quite limited, so if my question is to generic or imprecise i apologize.

Let's make a topic dedicated to the latest issues with the latest Linux Release Candidate provided on the Linus Torvalds git repository. Hello, I've used the Tinkerboard S (Rockchip RK3288) with the Armbian images available for download (https://www.armbian.com/tinkerboard/). Currently, the /dev/ttyS4 serial port is not available unless CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=5 when the Linux kernel is built since the serial ports are populated in /dev starting with /dev/ttyS0 and the last serial port to be populated is /dev/ttyS4. By default, CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=4. Some additional kernel settings are required to ensure that all of the available serial ports can be utilized. Greetings, I recently had a request about testing the I2S and SPDIF output of MiQi devices and after some fiddling on this board, it seems that the Rockchip I2S + Simple-Audio ALSA driver just output nothing on the I2S TX/RX pins, at least. So was anyone able to output sound directly through the I2S GPIO pins on any RK3288 device ? Tinkerboard devices seems to use that setup and it seems to be working, but I'd like to know if that's working through the soldered Jack or the GPIO.

Subsequently, I used armbian-config to provide the default desktop (Cinnamon flavor). Thereafter, the CH340 board is incompletely recognized. Specifically, no device is presented as /dev/ttyUSB?. The device appears in the list from lsusb, the kernel module ch341.ko loads, but no device in /dev. The forum search shows a previous instance of a similar issue many years back. I attempted to build the driver from wch.cn, but the kernel sources pulled from armbian-config were for the Linux tinker…

Hi everyone, I’m using an ASUS Tinker Board (RK3288, 2 GB, released in 2017). Since this board is quite old and we are now in 2025 I want to run the latest stable Armbian and develop a Python application using I²C, UART, PWM, and GPIO pins. Which Armbian image and kernel branch (current or edge) is the most stable for this board? Are there any specific steps or adjustments needed due to its older hardware? Thanks!

I've adapted a set of patches from Urja Rannikko, which move the HDMI frequencies definition into the DTS file, with some preconfigured rates if none are defined in the DTS. The original patches set is here : https://www.spinics.net/lists/arm-kernel/msg673156.html The big patch I used as a basis is here : https://github.com/urjaman/arch-c201/blob/master/linux-c201/0020-RK3288-HDMI-clock-hacks-combined.patch I included these patches by splitting them again : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy/commit/57ff073fffb5678e75959e566704376f6f52ac17 These patches were suggested to me here : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy/issues/3 …

I still have a problem configuring the wifi hotspot on the armbian distribution for tinkerboard. The hotspot is clearly unstable. So none of my computers can't connect to it and my phones and tablets have a unstable connection. I thought having found a turnover using a call to iw with a frequency of 1s. This was reactivating the wifi for some times (that should simulate a continuous connection) but it looks that it doesn't work anymore. So I am stuck with that, I am unable to configure a stable hotspot. Is there something to do with the rtl8723 driver, or have I no hope to make it works ?

Hi, I have installed "Armbian_22.08.7_Tinkerboard_bullseye_current_5.15.74_minimal.img.xz" on a Tinkerboard (no S, with RK3288). I have tried to set the output of some header pins without success. I bought a Tinkerboard S and Tinker Aluminum case yesterday, but because of the case, it's Wifi function is almost non-exist, so I bought a TP-LINK TL-WN722N v2 two hours ago. I was hoping to get a V1, which has a lot of information on Wikidevi, and looks like it's going to work out-of-the-box, but I got a v2, and now I'm trying to get it to work. Wikidevi provided a link to driver repository, I downloaded main branch and type "make all" in terminal, it says /lib/modules/4.4.166-rockchip/build does not exist. I tried to search how to install kernel header and tried this command "sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)", it doesn't work/help. …

I played a bit with the SenseHAT from the RPi guys. Doesn't work fully but I get the first things working. What does run: Joystick 8x8 led matrix (partly, seems that there are some parts of the framebuffer not fully working) What doesn't run: all the sensors attached on the board What's missing: load it devicetree overlay (at the moment it's coded into the main dts) how-to what's needed to get it working on your tinker too I'll keep you updated.

Hello, I own a Tinker Board S (bought one or two years ago) attached to a Sony Bravia KDL 22EX320 TV by HDMI, which has a native resolution of 1388x768 pixels. Bionic desktop with kernel 5.4 (got from https://dl.armbian.com/tinkerboard/Bionic_current_desktop) didn't properly recognize the TV resolution, but set it to 1920x1024. If I run xrandr --props the resolution is not listed. I'm posting because I'm almost sure that the old TinkerOS 2.0.8 (that I installed with the board) recognized the TV resolution correctly - it anyway boots to desktop without requiring interaction, so not being able to read the text at the edges of the console …

Today my effort is getting the rk3288 tv box boot from USB devices. During the initialization of the OTG USB port, u-boot complaints about dwc_otg_core_host_init() function which is timing out. I tried to manipulate the device tree chaning the dr_mode flag to host, otg and peripheral, but nothing changed. The only way to get rid of the timeout is to disable the device which, by the way, seems to not work anyway. Hello, I'm enabling g_ether driver on tinker board. The driver works and I'm able to emulate an Ethernet adapter on my PC when I connect it to the tinker micro USB port. This only works if the micro USB connection exists before powering ON the board. If I connect it while the device is already running nothing happens. This behavior may be related to the following kernel path: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10535905/ Is there any parameter I can add to avoid the USB from going to hibernate state? Or would it be possible to add the mentioned patch to armbian build tool? Thanks!

Hi, I created a Tinkerboard OMV 4 image some while ago, we uploaded it untested (since 'OMV' just means Armbian's build system doing its job with a massive post processing script adding tons of stuff) but now got the report it doesn't boot. That's a bit surprising given that the image has been downloaded over a hundred times and no one complained so far. Deleting the image is the logical consequence but maybe someone here with a serial console can give it a try and report whether the board comes up or where it gets stuck at booting. http://kaiser-edv.de/tmp/jk4NM5/OMV_4_Tinkerboard.img.xz (with mainline kernel) or the default kernel variant from he…

Tinkerboard (old one, not S) to be used as x2go thin client. Installed latest image (5.70_Tinkerboard_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.14_desktop), applied all updates. Working fine (thanks to everybody who contributed). Issue remaining: My Tinkerboard refuses to use the monitor's native display size of 1920x1200, tried several monitors and cables (HDMI to DVI adapter cables, in case this is relevant). Without any modifications, Armbian desktop comes up with 1280x960. I used xrandr to set 1920x1080 (works), but 1920x1200 leads to "xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed". Any chance to resolve this?

to recap: Tinkerboard (rev 1?) has 2 USB devices (from RK3288's internal ports), one for the Realtek HD audio, and one for the 4 USB ports (Genesys 4-port USB hub). while i have no info for the HD audio, the hub is powered via the 5V lines (noted as V5 pin in the datasheet). my mistake would be not checking if all the 5V power lines are shorted, or it's just connected to the hub. there's an option to NC the pin if using an external regulator (say, the RK808 power management chip?) The LAN is separated to the hub and instead directly connected to the RK3288 At least the datasheet for RK3288 says. no pinouts whatsoever so i think …

So I have downloaded several versions of Armbian for Tinkerboard using BullsEye and Yammy. Not one creates a working Access Point. The Bullseye version ends with a message that the hotspot has been activated but nothing appears. The yammy version fails with a message there is no usable driver for hostapd. It appears there are a lot of issues with this function. Why not leave it out or document which boards the feature doesn't support. It would save a lot of time going down rabbit holes.

Hello! I set up a firewall on the Asus Tinkerboard. I came across a very strange thing - the lack of support for the CT target in iptables. In fact, it appears that iptables has support of given target, but the required kernel module is missing. After running cat /boot/config-4.4.120-rockchip | grep NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_ST I saw the following: # CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_CT is not set. What the reason of that decision? It blocks ability to forward sip, ftp and some other protocols precisely. And also blocks ability to use SYNPROXY target correctly. Is it planned to include this module in the build?

Whats the correct way to get the Armbian build to spit boot out as a separate fat partition at the start of the image? Im just getting started with Armbian (on tinker board) and want to integrate it into by own build system. I need to generates SD card images with 3 different configs building 3 separate installs sharing a common multiboot 512MB fat boot partition. I dont need the Armbian build to do the multiboot or manage the boot partition at all, I just want to be able to extract the root & boot fs at the end of the build process.

Hello! I've been using Armbian on my newly bought Tinker Board for less than two weeks now and I've to say that the work you guys have put into this is incredible! It truly is remarkable and inspires us newcomers which haven't started studying computer science or are currently studying - as myself. So, I will definitely contribute and help others in the future to increase the Armbian community! However, as I'm new to Unix, Tinker Board, everything that's not Windows or Mac OS, I've a deep learning curve ahead! Let's start with my setup: Build: ARMBIAN 5.32.170921 nightly Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.14.0-rc1-rockchip (I know it's nightly so there are bugs, ye…

So those of us working on getting Retro Pie working on the Tinkerboard have run into a road block. Perhaps someone here might have a clue on this? Current using these instructions to build Retro Pie using the legacy Armbian Debian (4.4) https://github.com/Tinkerpie/Armbian-Setup And for audio over HDMI you need to currently make a change in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf setting defaults.pcm.card to 1 When this script linked down below: https://github.com/Rydra/bgm-for-es The BGM script takes over all audio so for instance the audio in games does not work or any other audio such as audio from the video sna…

Hello people, I have an Asus Tinker Board S and decided to use the Mainline Armbian for this board, love the new panfrost driver but seems it is glitching all over the place, icons in the menu disappear and reappear when mouse hovers over them, tick boxes do not show if they are ticked and only flicker when mouse is over them and applications menu keep redrawing all over when trying to use among the most prominent problems. Other operating systems work well in this matter. Anyone else is having these problems with the mainline 5.4.28 kernel build?

Hi, has any of you some experience connecting a Hifiberry Amp+ to a Tinkerboard - on Hifiberry pages this is now a possible connecting but I miss a howto and would really appreciate a quick start on this. After testing several OS I have to admit Armbian has become my favorite and it is within this OS I hope to achieve this.
