  3. Hello guys, I never used armbian or any other kind of mini ARM Linux distro. I'm thinking about buying one of these ARM boards for a wireless access point and light server. What kind of packages can be installed on armbian? Can apache, BIND, ansible, python3, DHCP server, for example, be installed on it? Are there any packages repositories? Possible to use a more powerful wifi antenna on them or is a USB antenna needed? Many thanks for any pointers on this.

Lastest current kernel Bullseye image for Renegade, first-boot, then reboot, ssh.service won't active. Problem is 'Missing privilege separation directory: /run/sshd', creat by manul then start the service will make it active. But after a reboot it will need to done again. Purge and install openssh-server will fix it. Reinstall won't work. Remember do this before install other package which depend on openssh-server. https://paste.armbian.com/qoxebajifu

  6. Hej, Microsoft has recently announced a new release of the dotnet version 7. I just wanted to guide how to get it running on armbian. It is actually pretty straightforward and takes only few steps. if you have any previously installed dotnet runtime - rm it. Just wondering if having profile-sync-daemon (psd) is causing troubles to you. After installing Armbian, I noticed that whenever I was restarting Chromium and accessing youtube, the system was asking me a login. The authentication cookies were simply disappearing after each restart of chromium. To avoid that I removed a link of my .profile directory pointing to a tmpfs filesystem (you see the tmpfs file system, use the df command). I read that it is used to avoid read/write on storage, as all I/O are done in Ram, but obviously in my case it was not really working, as I was loosing my cookies. Does anyone else uses that feature?…

I’m assuming this is to do with the kernel but otherwise have no idea. I’ve had no problems with this Wireguard plugin on a 32bit Libre Bullseye install on a Renegade but was unable to get 64bit Bullseye to accept login creds so opted for Armbian. Now unable to use the plugin at all. Anyone have any ideas? I’ve tried the 6.1.11 edge kernel but Wireguard broke this too. Not sure what else to try. Attempted to get Libre kernels to load without success - way above my skillset for now. TIA

Armbian uses Netplan by default to manage network settings. But when it uses NetworkManager as renderer, it silently changes iptables rules—without asking, without telling. *Neither Netplan nor NetworkManager are supposed to manage firewall settings.* But they do it anyway, behind the scenes. That kind of behavior—making security changes without user consent—feels a lot like what malware does.

  26. Thanks, Armbian for supporting users like us with community backed OS for SBCs which otherwise are struggling to maintain the OS software in synergy with their hardware product portfolio. The whole SBC paradigm revolves around accessing GPIO either as Inputs, Outputs, UARTs, SPI or I2C. If the main focus/priority is to get the UI up and running, there would be no difference between mainstream rooted phones/tablets and SBC. As a general observation, I have almost always struggled to run gpio based python scripts out of the box after loading minimal OS for multiple SBCs. As a humble request on behalf of whole community is to propose readiness for GPI…

Hello I wanted to post on here regarding a new project we have been working on called SimpNAS. Its similar to OpenMediaVault or FreeNAS but simpler and more basic. Its currently in Beta but we are looking to have a stable release by the time Kobol ARM NAS gets released. It can be installed on armbian devices as long as it has two hard drives one for the OS and one for Data. For example we have it installed on an ODroid HC2, but can be installed on any PC. Feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Installation of autheila package ("apt install authelia") does does end with error due to /var/log/journal beeing a symlink to /var/log.hdd/journal. Once the symlink is removed and the directory is created instead, the installation can be completed successfully. The symlink can be recreated afterwards and authelia wil steill run normally - until the next package update.

Hello, Has someone managed to make widevine work properly in armbian for any ARM64 board? I have a orange pi 5 plus board and I'm using armbian with the vendor kernel and I'm struggling to get widevine working without success. I've tried several online tutorials but none of them seem to work (but they also seem to be rather old).

Hi - just wondering if there's something anyone can do to seed more of Armbian community maintained images - especially Rockpro64 and Rpi5 images. There seems to be only one seeder and just as I was typing this post, I got to download over a gigabyte of the Rockpro64 image but it's still not finished. It seems the seeder (?) was online for a moment but then seeding stopped. So if there's something someone can do, much appreciated!

  55. I read about Debian/Ubuntu, that — as the Armbian — in general have all sorts of UTF-8 locales installed by default, it is possible to generate ISO8859-2 locales anyway by using a 'locale-gen' tool (found such suggestion here ). But there isn't locale-gen in Armbian, it seems (Armbian v25.2.2). Can it be installed from some repo, or maybe it's possible to generate ISO8859-2 locales some alternative way? If so — how do i do that?

  56. Hello, I downloaded recent Armbian image for Orange Pi PC Plus - 23.05.1. When I run it, the screen resolution is 720x576 and virtual resolution 1024x768. I changed armbianEnv.txt - defined disp_mode=1280x800p60 (this is what I need) and also used fbset command in my application and it works in most cases, but sometimes after system restart the screen resolution is the default (720x576) and can't be changed - I get error - "ioctl FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO: Invalid argument". How can this be fixed? Thanks in advance.

  57. Hi all, I decided today to give an Armbian build a whirl as a virtual machine (guest). In particular, Armbian_24.2.4_Uefi-x86_jammy_current_6.6.21_kde-neon_desktop.img. As is usual with installing a virtual machine, it comes up with a default video resolution of 1024x768; I can usually quickly get it full screen on my system as 1920x1080 by going to the System Settings : Hardware : Display and Monitor : etc. However, here there is no hardware subsection at all, and a search didn't turn up a setting to change the display. Any advice on where to find it? I installed the spice guest driver and related packages on the guest. …

  63. I just bought this PINE64 board. I flashed the ARMbian GNOME Desktop OS image into an SD card, in order to boot into the board. I already tried to set up an OpenVPN server using this guide (tested with another Ubuntu machine, it worked) but for some reason this does not work using the PINE64 board. All the steps seems to complete successful and the VPN server seems to be up and running, passed the ovpn file to the client user but when the user try to connect to the VPN network the log messages from the VPN client always said "Server poll timeout..." and, of course, the connection never happen. Which could be the problem? Am I missing something for this set up ?

My TV is being weird. I adjusted the taskbar so it’s not off screen, although I didn’t think about the minimize/maximize/etc being cut off. I tried looking around for a solution but didn’t find topics with solutions that worked. My TV is funky and doesn't have a video adjustment menu, so I can’t do that. And the resolutions available are supposed to be supported by my tv. Am I able to set screen boundaries, like a screen safe area so the display is not cut-off? If it’s not possible, it would make a nice feature.

Hi Members, I'm setting and reading the GPIO PINs for different BPI's frequently only by bash by maintaining the /sys/class/gpio/xxx values. The only problem is that all these files belong to root :root and I have to use the sudo command in my scripts. I've read about putting a non root user to the gpio group will fix that. But on Armbian there is no "gpio" group ;( That seems the reason why the directory /sys/class/gpio is not prepared as root:gpio Please has someone an idea when this will be implemented? Regards wollik

Every time I tried to log on to ssh on my rock-s0 with armbian, there would be a delay of like 5 seconds. I found a solution that fixes this problem. This thread is partly a PSA about this solution, and a question about whether this solution is a good idea or not. The trick is to change UsePAM=yes , to UsePAM=no , in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. But I heard some people online say this is a bad idea, but I don't understand PAM enough to know why. I am only going to use ssh in a basic password-authenticated, LAN environment. Do I really need PAM? The only side-effect I noticed is that it no longer shows the MOTD when logging in.

Hey everyone, I want to share something pretty simple that I was working on: a way to customize the official image, maybe it's not the best way of doing it, but it worked for my needs. https://github.com/thiagosanches/yet-another-armbian-bakery/ The main goal is: WIFI up at the first boot. Make some small adjustments on SSH configuration. Change root password. Add a pi user. Add a public key so I can connect orange pi through and manage it through ansible (important topic). Any thoughts? It ain't much but it's a honest work!

I had to install (they were missing) sshfs, then fuse and finally ssh on a bpi-m5, using a 128Gb u-sd as boot media. iso was noble from a week ago's download, and updated at 2nd boot after establishing my /etc/hosts file based network. I can ssh from it /to/ the main box w/o any problem. But any attempt to reverse into it /from/ another machine /to/ it is "connection reset by peer". I haven't touched /etc/ssh/*config's from default values. Is there something I need to set/reset in those files to restore incoming logins? And no, I do not enable root logins. Also, systemd is still a puzzle to me if its involved. Thanks for any advice.
