What's wrong and how do I fix it ? Thanks.

Hi, I built a NAS with a Raspberry PI. It runs ARMBIAN 5.46, a SAMBA server and an NFS server. There are also 5 disks that are combined as RAID5. Since yesterday I can no longer log in, neither via SSH nor directly on the Raspberry Pi. When I try via SSH, I get the password query, the start message about the current status and then the connection is closed. When I log in directly to the system, I get the login query (username and password) and then the message "Module is unknown". Then the login request comes again. What can I do without reinstalling the system? Thanks for the help. Jens

I run Armbian Trixie in my NAS, and I saw last week that the ZFS 2.4.0 was available here: https://apt.armbian.com/pool/trixie-utils/z/zfs-linux/(it will go to one of the mirrors). The problem is the package `zfs-zed` isn't available, so I got serious problems during the update (I run Openmediavault, btw). Any tips if it's a mistake and the package should be included, or `zfs-zed` is deprecated and I need to talk with OMV team to remove this dependency?

I have Armbian 24.8.4 running on my CubieTruck. I wanted to experiment with running an access point on it, and was able to configure and run hostapd to do so. But now I want it to be a Wi-Fi client again and it appears that I royally screwed something up while playing with hostapd. When I run armbian-config and select the Network option, nothing about Wi-Fi shows up any more. Any suggestions where to start to get things back to how they were out-of-the-box? A reinstall is not an option.

I installed various version of Debian and Ubuntu Server (CLI) of armbian in orange pi 5, but there is no uart selection in armbian-config. I think this is os version problem. Could you can see the uart select in armbian-config? If so, can you tell me what I am missing? I tried apt upgrade and apt update and armbian-install, but these updates did not get me the uart port selection. Thank you for your reply

Hello, I tried to reduce the clock frequency with nano /etc/default/cpufrequtils. I also set the governor to userspace in order to enable direct frequency setting. But there is no effect to be seen with cpufreq-info -o except the governor is switched to "userspace" now. I also tried it with echo 500000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_setspeed , but clock frequency did not change. According to the S905X3 datasheet the SoC could even run at 100Mhz... Hi! I'm trying to build a cluster of a few Odroid N2+, with Microk8s. I installed and tested it on the first board that I'm designating as the primary node. Now I'd like to setup the others, how do I configure the primary board as a gateway for the others? The primary board has a WiFi connection with internet access, the ethernet connection is then shared with the other boards with a different subnet. I'm very rusty with linux/ubuntu as I haven't used it in years now. I followed this guide (https://linuxhint.com/enable_ip_forwarding_ipv4_debian_linux/) and enable the routing on the main board. Then in t…

Hi folks, Can anyone confirm which if any boards / cpus have functioning HDMI eARC suport? I've seen OrangePI 5 mentioning they have support, but it's unclear if the software support is there in any way; i assume all rk3588 (or likley hdmi 2.1 certified) boards will have hdmi (hardware) support. Similar with Khadas VIM3L or VIM4; hardware support is mentioned w/o any clarity on the software support. Thanks!

Hello Armbian community I am a bit confused - I only see images labeled for Raspberry Pi 4 in the Raspberry Pi section of the Armbian website. However, I have seen several videos (like the demo by NicoD) showing Armbian Jammy with KDE Neon running smoothly on Raspberry Pi 5. Are the images for Pi 5B hidden or moved? I am looking for a direct link to download the Pi 5B images (Jammy or Bookworm, desktop or minimal version), instead of having to guess if a "Pi 4" image actually supports the Pi 5. Thank you for your help!

Hi all. I am trying to autologin and auto startx BSPWM but all I get is a black screen when calling startx. Here's my .bash_profile if [ -z "${DISPLAY}" ] && [ "${XDG_VTNR}" -eq 1 ]; then exec startx fi The bspwmrc has permissions 700. Permissions on sxhkdrc is 600. I even gave execute permissions to .xinitrc (below). #!/bin/sh . /etc/X11/Xsession polybar default & sxhkd & exec bspwm It happens if I manually call it, and even when I explicitly tell it to start bspwm (i.e. startx bspwm). The stdout catches a "the command line or make sure that /usr/binis in your path."

Hey there, I'm trying to use gstreamer as a video player for the tinkerboard 2 armbian build (Armbian Bookworm XFCE desktop stable). I tried to compile the original plugin from sources (https://github.com/TinkerBoard2/external-gstreamer-rockchip), but there are several dependencies missing and I can't find them either on github / apt. The default /. bashrc over rides any title or name setting set on the command line for all xterm and urxvt terms. This is very ugly and irresponsible behavior. I'm not sure where the source is kept but those lines of code need to be removed. Setting the prompt is one thing, smashing the title and name is something else.

Hi all, I've been using Armbian on two Cubietrucks for a decade and had to install the latest version (CLI Armbian 23.8 Bookworm Kernel of Aug 31, 2023) to one of them. Therefore: Is there any other way to reliably cause HDD spindown after a certain time (say 20 min) even if there's no battery-power mode but 24/7 AC power? Thanks in advance for any help. Giunti

I have Armbian running on an Orange Pi and I like to work by changing to su so I'm not having to constantly type sudo in front of commands when I have a lot of commands that need root privilege. However, bizzarely, sometimes I still ahve to use sudo. So for example: root@orangepi5-plus:/home/Data/Mercurial_Info# usermod -a -G www-data username bash: usermod: command not found If I do sudo usermod -a -G www-data username How can I fix this please? It's also stopping me running a script I need that I ran on my old Banana Pi running Armbian.

I have upgraded multiple RockPiS that were happily working - new version is Armbian 22.08.8 stable - but the latest version of Armbian-config no longer includes WiFi Access point creation/ management, and seems to disable the Access Point functionality. I am hoping this is an error that will be fixed - but if not, is there any way to downgrade the version of Armbian-Config - or turn the Access Point back on ?

So how do I totally disable so access once logged in doesn't timeout in 5 minutes putting machine in sleep mode which disables remote access too? At 16 watts, it can run 24/7/365.25 doing its job which is as a backup server. Thanks all.

Before I do something that breaks forum rules I'd rather ask. Can I post a link to githyb with a script I made to backup sbc:s (incl Armbian ofc)? The reason it even exists is because of when I first started using armbian and wanted something I could backup both rpi os and armbian. Can I post it here or is it prefered to keep it in the "anything" thread? Regards.

I recently acquired some nanopc t4, I wanted to install casaos, openmedivault, friendlywrt, pihole, and things like that, it turns out that no matter what operating system I install, armbian, ubuntu, lubuntu, debian, or the official ones, I never have access to the installed services, that is I can not access casaos from another pc, as if there was a firewall that blocks incoming connections, I only have access via ssh, if I pin to the ip address (192. 168.0.31 for example) all good, there is no firewall installed, with all the systems the same thing happens to me, in all the nanopc, I only have access from the same nanopc, that is to say, 127.0.0.1, but it is impossible …

First of all, thanks to the project maintainer Jason and all the devs who got my little MangoPi MQ Pro to boot to a snappy GUI desktop with a functional mouse, keyboard, and 802.11. That alone is absolutely awesome. I'm using an RISCS-V SBC Mango Pi MQ Pro Version 1.4 https://mangopi.org/mangopi_mqpro. Armbian 23.06 Sid trixie board name: "Nezha" Build Repository URL: https://github.com/150balbes/build.git Build Repository Commit: e4c493f84-dirty Armbian didn't ship with any apt repositories that I can identify. Seeking software with apt install always returns no matches, even for very common software. Arm…

Hi all, I'm quite puzzled by this. I installed iptables-persistent to be able to restore the iptables rules at start-up. Saved the rules to /etc/iptables/rules.v4 / /etc/iptables/rules.v6, then rebooted. But after boot, the iptables are empty. Looking at the status of service netfilter-persistent, it looks like it has ran the scripts to restore the rules: root@gateway:/etc# systemctl status netfilter-persistent.service ● netfilter-persistent.service - netfilter persistent configuration Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/netfilter-persistent.service; enabled; preset: enabled) Drop-In: /usr/lib/systemd/system/netfilter-persistent…

Installed 24.8.4 on OrangePi Zero2. Assumed I would need to install neofetch to launch it, so didn't even try to run it before going straight to 'apt install neofetch'. On attempting to install, I saw the following: Reason is that armbian-config package includes /usr/bin/neofetch. To avoid confusion for new users, it seems like it would be good to either have armbian-config depend on neofetch instead of including the bash script that that package includes*, or have the Package file for armbian-config lock out the installation of neofetch (I think the Provides, Replaces, and Conflicts directives might be needed for that). I had a look around the https:/…

Hello all. I have 3 pi5s running Armbian and 1 pc running windows10. Prior to changing from Bookworm to Armbian all boxes would communicate well with each other. Now only windows explorer communicates with the Pis. The Pis do not see each other nor Windows. I tried (almost) everything and nothing works. I could not get/install WSDD >>Package wsdd is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source Error: Package 'wsdd' has no installation candidate>> so I installed WSDD2 and made reference to it and still no go. Hello everyone, I’m currently trying to develop an Electron-based application to run on the Orange Pi PC Plus (ARM platform), but I’ve hit a few roadblocks in the build process. My goal is to package and distribute the app so it can be run directly on this specific device, but I’m struggling with issues related to cross-compiling and creating binaries compatible with its architecture. Has anyone here successfully built and deployed an Electron app on an Orange Pi or a similar ARM board? I would really appreciate any guidance, tips, or recommended tools for accomplishing this.

I'm using smokeping on 2 ubuntu server without any issue, but on my armbian server (Armbian 22.11.1 Jammy) it doesn't update the rrd-files properly. As far as I see it all configs are identical. My rrds always looks like this: rrdtool fetch /var/lib/smokeping/Local/googlecom.rrd AVERAGE 1674323100: nan 2.0000000000e+01 nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan nan It does updating, but always only the second value with these 2.000000000+01. What could be the issue? Before smokeping had an issue with my $LC_ALL but I updated it and now it should be fine. smokeinfo /etc/smokeping/config ### a…

As configured on install (at least in 24.8.4 I installed), the netplan config files try to manage all networking interfaces - which breaks the virtual bridge interfaces that containers and VM managers like Podman, Docket, etc create and use. See https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/40217#issuecomment-2041628162 for more information If networkctl shows podman* or veth* as managed then this is probably the problem breaking your container networking. To work around this issue, I modified the file /etc/netplan/10-dhcp-all-interfaces.yaml to only manage en* interfaces rather than all interfaces, followed by netplan apply. # Added by…

Hello community! I’ve been a lurker for a while and recently flashed the latest Armbian Jammy onto a spare NanoPi NEO I had lying around. I'm currently designing a headless DIY time-tracking kiosk for a small local workshop using an RC522 RFID reader via SPI. Reading the RFID tags and logging the raw Unix timestamps (punch-in/punch-out) to a local SQLite database was the easy part. Where I'm getting a bit stuck is the actual backend calculation logic. I need the system to accurately calculate the daily net working hours, which means automatically deducting mandatory statutory breaks (e.g., 30 mins after 6 hours of work) and tracking daily overtime. …

Hi, My journald logs are limited to last midnight. I figured out it's related to logrotate.service. When I run it with couple of logs present in /var/log/journal (and passing all tests) they become 0-sized. Hi everyone, I'm running a few services on an Armbian-based SBC and need a reliable SMTP Service Provider for system alerts, backup reports, and application notifications. If anybody needs a simple way to check text on the web or extract text from online PDFs on low‑spec SBCs, here is surf.py. It’s a tiny Python‑based terminal browser designed for boards like Orange Pi Zero, so you’re not completely blind internet‑wise even without a full browser. Starts with: ./surf.py domain.com Dependencies outside standard library: requests, PyPDF2. surf.py

Hi! I have a problem with the Banana Pi M2 Zero. I am trying to use its one wire interface, but with no success. I have enabled the w1-gpio module in the armbian-config menu, but I still cannot get it to work. I tried using the neopixels library, within python for the control of the leds. The GPIO as I saw that should work on is GPIO 4, Board pin 7. The neopixel library says that the board is not supported, however it lists the M2 Zero as a possible board interface. I also added to armbianEnv.txt the param_w1_pin=PA6, which is supposed to deliver PWM1 signal as well. Can anyone help me, to get it to work? Thank you in advance!

Was using a 5.15.x version of Arabian on an orange pi 4, and upgraded to latest 6.7.x image seems to have broken low level usb (specifically USB to ACM devices). Used the following command to reset an STM32 device over USB (stm32 is connected directly to USB and shows up as a ttyACM0 device in linux) python -c 'import termios; termios.tcsendbreak(3, 0)' 3>/dev/ttyACM0 this worked great but now no longer does. Any ideas? Anyway we can test if its an updated driver issue by reverting to older usb driver or possible a kernel issue? Seems to be a Armbian specific issue, since ubuntu on amd64 system with 6.x kernel works fine …

armbian jammy, uptodate a/o yesterday, on 6 pack of bananapi-m5's running a 3d printer farm. You made chrome the default browser, which has port 80 high jacked for all of googles BS. So you can't use chrome for local web page troubleshooting, or to run klipper. localhost:80 is not accessible, neither is the machines fqdn:80. Can this bit of commercial hi-jacking be defeated? FF, installed as a snap and auto-updated nightly works fine, but because its a snap, must be restarted every day. That is a classic PITA. So, how do I make FF's snap the default browser?

Boot from ssd - no. I compared whether it transferred the distribution correctly from sd to ssd - all files are the same. What could be the problem?

I wanted to try out running a Servarr stack. I decided to go the usenet route, so I installed SABnzbd. It created "/armbian/sabnzbd" and three directories under that, "config", "download" and "incomplete", which matches the recommenations. Next, I installed Sonarr for TV, which created "/armbian/sonarr" and three directories under that, "config", "download" and "tvseries". While "/armbian/sonarr" and "/armbian/sabnzbd" are owned by my user, the "download" directory and "tvseries" directories were owned by root. So, I changed the ownership to my user, but it still wasn't working right. I read up on how these containers are supposed to i…

I have LicheeRV Nano (version B), which is a RISC-V computer with SOPHGO SG2002 CPU. Someone ported Debian onto it. The device acts as an "USB gadget" - when I connect it to my laptop through USB, it identifies itself as USB Ethernet device. This device is running RDNIS. However, when I connect this device to my Ubuntu laptop, I always get new network interface, with different IP (in range 10.42.0.0/24). For instance, once network interface is called "enx8a7df6c752e6", and it's MAC address is "8a:7d:f6:c7:52:e6". Next time it is called "enxd23862ad4ce9", with MAC address pa"d2:38:62:ad:4c:e9", and so on. The dmesg command on my Ubuntu lapto…

I have a Banana Pi M64 running Armbian 24.11.1 jammy, which has both a hard wired Ethernet connection and also WiFi. I have several other computers with both Ethernet and WiFi connections. I have my local DHCP servers set up to offer the same local IP address to both the Ethernet and Wireless NICs. For most (all but the Banana Pi M64 running Armbian 24.11.1 jammy) this is fine: both NICs get the same IP address and things work fine (generally traffic goes on one NIC). I do this in case I need to unplug the Ethernet cable (which would cause things to "fail over" to wireless). The Banana Pi M64 used to also be fine with the same IP address on both its Ethernet and its W…
