I'm not sure if anyone is interested in a very small distro without gcc, but I spent some time the last week using buildroot and armbian's source files to create a 3.4.112-rt image for the nanopi neo. It is going to be part of a realtime audio project (think synth or guitar pedal) that I'm working on and it demands a quick boot, among other things. There is also a mainline version, but it doesn't have all the fixings you folks like, so I don't know if you'd want to use that. You can find the build scripts and config files on my github. I'll be posting the legacy image in a zip file tonight, once I verify everything is reproducible. I…

Hello, Is it just me or something has changed lately regarding the installation of u-boot on SPI? I have a Rock64 v2 and I am quite sure one year ago or more I used to update the SPI using the nand-sata-install script. Today I wanted to flash it again, but whenever I run the script (either via armbian-config) the error message in the title is shown and nothing occurs. Running Armbian 20.21 with legacy (4.4) kernel. Oh, the relevant u-boot package according to apt is installed. Thanks! Edit: The reason behind is to check if a newer code would finally support booting from the SSD plugged on the USB3 port, which nev…

Hi all, I enjoy Armbian overall and appreciate the support that goes into its upkeep. I previously used the ayufan images but found that those were updated less frequently than I desired and I've wanted to run OpenMediaVault 5.x + and Python3.x+ which have major issues with the Debian 9/Stretch and Kernel 4.x and run better on kernel 5.x and newer. After reinstalling Armbian on a new SD card and porting my old system over from that image, everything generally works well, however there have been some slow-downs. I have the NAS-style enclosure case and two 6 TB 3.5" HDDs. I have checked the thermals and the system runs at a around 60 - 68 degrees C. …

Hello, I have a usb wifi device which works well on nano pi neo 3.4.113-sun8i. I update to the latest ditribution 5.15.48-sunxi jammy, then I rebuild kernel drivers but now it only work on a cold boot and when I hot plug the adapter. On a warm boot the adapter with lsusb is ok but nmcli can't find the device. I have the same problem with another usb wifi adapter (lsmod is ok, but stil not working with "rmmod 8821cu" and then "modprobe 8821cu")

EDIT: This is NOT about a (hidden) backdoor but just a local privileges escalation that affects one single 3.4 kernel variant for 2 Allwinner SoCs. In case you came here through lurid headlines please read this comment here first and help stop spreading further BS like "all Allwinner devices contain a hidden backdoor" -- the code has been found since Allwinner could be convinced to open their Github repos in the past so everyone is able to audit their Android kernel source! It has been brought to our attention two days ago on 2016-04-30 in linux-sunxi IRC that Allwinner's 3.4 legacy kernel for H3/A83T/H8 contains a nasty local privileges escalation. Any process …

Hi, I'am the new one. I'am German and bought last month an OrangePi PC+ from AliExpress without a clue what todo with it, but it was cheap ;-) And it was perfect for my new OMV. Just installing OMV on top of Armbian / Jessie was not enough because of missing Quota Kernel Options. When setting up a development Enviroment, I found the excellent Build-Scripts of Armbian and thought, why not making an OMV-Image with the customize-image.sh. And here is it (quick and dirty v0.1) Just copy it with a modified kernel.config under userpatches. It should work with every supported Armbian Board as long as its working with Debian Jessie, because it installes OMV3.X I com…

I have changed the sysctl.conf by adding few parameters and it seems that i broke the system now, system is not loading and it's stuck in boot at the following step : [ TIME ] Timed out waiting for device dev-ttyGS0.device. [ TIME ] Timed out waiting for device dev-ttyS0.device. The question is how i recover my system. Is there anyway to recover the sysctl.conf file or any other way to stop the booting process and login to revert my changes? or another way to fix these timeout messages?

Goodmorning, I'm Tiziano from Italy. I would like to manage all the delicate functions of my reef aquarium through an Orange Pi Lite card. I saw that both the Armbian Buster program and the Armbian Focal program are available for my card, I kindly ask you to understand if there is a fundamental difference between the two and which. The problem is that in the end I am only asked to choose the "default system command shell" between "bash" and "zsh", no option to start a desktop …

I'm new to boards with linux and this is my very first attempt to install linux systems on board so there might be something that I cannot be aware of. I tried to install armbian v6.12 on the SD card but after I finish configureing the setup, the wifi doesn't work. Unfortunately I have no wires to connet to the board so now it is unable for me to connect the board to the internet. The problem is exactly the same as the post Wifi module AX210 - Orange Pi 5 Plus - Armbian Community Forums. I can see the network controller through `lspci -v`: And the dmesg shows that iwlwifi cannot find suitable version to use: And I indeed have the…

Now I I'm trying to install the new trixie image, but I can't burn it on my nvme drive. With USBImage it does not work. It doesn't detect my nvme drive installed on my USB adapter. With belena Etcher it throws an error during the validation of the image. Win32Imager doesn't load at all on Windows 11. I don't know which other tool (Windows) I could use. I'm stuck. How can I boot again from my SD card on a Rock 5b+?

I have setup an Orange Pi Zero with the latest Armbian Stretch to use as an Open Media Vault server and a Pi-Hole (with the Pi-Hole being used as a DHCP server). I installed both from the armbian-config software menu with no problems. However these days I've been getting at random times a very strange issue. I have my Orange Pi Zero set with a static IP address since I am using the Pi-Hole software as a DHCP server for my home network, the problem is that at what seems like at random times it gets a different IP address without me touching anything, the IP is something in the style of 2XX.XXX.XXX.XXX instead of 192.168.1.20 that I have set as static from armbi…

Hello, I have enabled overlayroot using "armbian-config" command line tool (in my orangepi PC). My current OS is Armbian Focal xfce desktop After rebooting, I noticed that the entire filesystem stills writable. I checked the content of ( /etc/overlayroot.conf) using; cat /etc/overlayroot.conf this command show at the end of the file these two lines: (after commented content): overlayroot_cfgdisk="disabled" overlayroot="tmpfs" If I well understood, normally, with such a configuration, the filesystem should be set to read only., but in practice, it is not. Could you assist me how to resolve this problem?

Hey. I have a waveshare 4.3" 480x272 screen, that I'm trying to get to work with my orange pi zero +2, or nanopi M1 plus. However, I can't get the screen to show the right resolution - that only seems possible on my raspberry pi (which I don't want to use for this project). I've been running over all the (little) info I can find, and it seems to be a general problem to get hdmi working if the screen edid is a bit flaky - is this still the case, or is it possible to get this combination of opi/nanopi to work on this display? Regards. Anders

Hello, I'm trying to enable I2C access in U-Boot, for orange PI zero. This is a bunch of background info, scroll down to TL;DR for my question.... Hello, I am working on developing an application to make single board computers easier to use for non-technical users. You can think of it as something similar to yunohost or freedombox, but with more hand-holding involved around the hardware & network setup. I'm trying to enable people like my mother who've never seen or used a terminal/shell before to be able to set up and operate a server in their home. Hi, I know at least some distributions don't remove modules of currently running kernels. Even when upgrading kernels and modules. Also, armbian has files like /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove etc, which look like they're meant to accomplish the same (protect selected kernel modules from removal), but have in fact no effect (by default). How can I prevent removal of files on upgrade (specifically, kernel modules)? That is, enable the /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove and related things to have an effect, or set some other option to do something similar. Actually, I would also prefer to keep a few previous kernels and support …

OrangePi Lite with an extra USB-WiFi-stick I managed to set up an WiFi AP with Armbian-config, Then the system overwrote the file /boot/armbianEnv.txt with garpage and the AP does not work anymore. ( I'm not sure if that was the reason) Now I want to kill the AP to set up a new AP with another USB-stick. There seems to be no tool to remove / kill / forget the old setup.. How to do this ?

It's finally happened to me. :-( Compiled Kernel 5.15.28 using the Armbian Build Framework. The two commands issued to update the SBC's kernel were: sudo dpkg -i linux-dtb-current-sunxi_22.05.0-trunk_armhf.deb sudo dpkg -i linux-image-current-sunxi_22.05.0-trunk_armhf.deb Rebooted the SBC and now it's stuck. Serial console shows the output quoted below and then goes no further. I have a Windows 10 system with Paragon Software's Linux File System for Windows driver so I can access the SD card and alter its contents. I updated the Kernel as has a suspected issue which may have turned out not to be the case. The qu…

Hello, I've searched through various threads on here and can find no comprehensive answer on how to disable log2ram completely, forever, and preferably end up with only one /var/log with mainstream logrotate settings. This is for a situation where I'm using an actual hard drive and don't need to worry about destroying flash memory. I suspect it is more involved than just 'systemctl disable log2ram'. Any additional pointers would be very helpful, thank you!

I have two nano Pi Neo Core boards and one Nano Pi Neo Core 2 Board. On all boards there is a glitch. When I play the audio file at the beginning and at the end, I hear a click. I think it's because of the DAC's on / off switch. Also, at the beginning of playback, the initial sound is lost for about one second. I did echo -1 > /sys/devices/platform/soc/1c22c00.codec/cdc/pmdown_time The initial and final pulses (clicks) disappeared. But there are still small impulses at the beginning and at the end of the playback. There are also small pulses between file playback. For example: aplay file1.wav file2.wav DAPM? How disable it? …

If i move a window it tooks about 1-3 seconds till i see its moved. Complete gui is very juddery. The Task manager in debian buster shows the cpu and memory is not always on 100% although xfce is very slow. How can i fix this? Can it be cause i use a few years old 64gb samsung micro sd? If it's because the cubietruck is too old and slow can you recommend another newer much faster system?

Hello, Armbian devs, I have customized a kernel for an existing Armbian system. I wish I can replace the kernel on the system directly without going throught Armbian build system. According to what Martinayotte told me, there are 3 symbolic link to kernel image, dtbs, and uInitrd actually to boot. While I have done first 2, and I know that I have to do "mkimage" to generate a u-boot compatible uinitrd for sure. But... How can I produce the original initramfs, first? I trace the log of Armbian build system and found out it's generated by update-iniramfs command. But the environment is wiped out after it's done. I'm not sur…

Hello everyone! I tried to enable cedrus264 encoder/decoder on my old OrangePI Lite 2 (revision 1 if I am right). I used stulluk's repository as the base to patch the last FFMpeg revision and to add cedrus264 encoder using the new FFMpeg API. The result is built and tested. Unfortunately, I have had no success: the encoder says: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -input_format mjpeg -video_size 1280x720 -i /dev/video1 -c:v cedrus264 -pix_fmt nv12 -f mp4 video.mp4 ffmpeg version N-103904-gb2538ce578 Copyright (c) 2000-2021 the FFmpeg developers built with clang version 12.0.1 (https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project.git fed41342a82f5a3a9201819a82bf7a48313e296…

I have Armbian up and running on a Rock Pi S with a PoE HAT. To enable the audio jack on the PoE HAT I had to run the following commands as mentioned on the official Rock Pi S PoE Hat wiki. # echo 15 > /sys/class/gpio/export # echo out > /sys/class/gpio/gpio15/direction # echo 1 > /sys/class/gpio/gpio15/value Once enabled, the audio works as needed. However, every time the device is rebooted I have to SSH in and run these commands again to re-enable audio out which is obviously not ideal. How can I persist these changes between reboots?

New user here Quick question re: the "Install to eMMC" script detailed in the getting started guide here: https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Getting-Started/#how-to-install-to-emmc-nand-sata-usb Does it put a fresh install of Armbian onto the eMMC? or Does it move the configured install from the SD card to the eMMC? Hi, Not sure I should ask this kind of question here, but here it goes: THe question is how to grow a RAID5 after replacing 4x2TB with 4x4TB I replaced each disk one by one and hit recover each time a disk was replaced. I have access to all the files. After that I used the command "mdadm --grow /dev/md127 --size=max" to grow the size. I'ts now showing 10.92TiB in Raid Management but it didn't reshape or grew the partitions/filesystems. If I hit resize in File Systems for one partition, nothing happens. I have two partitions: /dev/dm-0 /dev/dm-1 ignore /dev/sde1, it's an external usb HDD. Any advice? how can I res…

Hi all, I bought a Orange Pi PC 2 a couple of months back, loaded the Armbian image successfully and tweaked it until it was just right for my application. As this piece of hardware was going to live on a remote property, I bought another 2 Orange Pi PC 2 boards and some new SD cards with the intention of having 2 backups - one for development and the other as spare. I cloned the SD card by copying the active EXT4 partition across to the blank SD card using GParted. The long and the short of it is that these images did not work. I know the hardware is good as the original SD card works in the new OPi PC2 boards. Likewise the new cards don't wo…

My main desktop workstation is, in actuality, a server motherboard (KGPE-D16). I have a need to turn it on remotely from time to time. Apparently it is not capable of Wake on LAN, as that is a feature reserved for some add on server management card (which I don't have and am not going to purchase, as it requires some proprietary software). So I realized I could simply hook up some relay to a microcontroller to pull the power switch low for 200 ms or whatever. Well then I thought, I have a Cubietruck and an ODROID-XU4 (and a ROCKPro64 for that matter) right in the case which should have GPIO available and are already connected to Ethernet, why not use those instead... …

In my spi protocol driver I send large buffers of data to be transferred. I am not interested in the data received so I leave the rx_buf as NULL. In the controller driver they have code to implement this use case: https://github.com/allwinner-zh/linux-3.4-sunxi/blob/6964d467510849e3e262518cb87bff7ef92e01f5/drivers/spi/spi-sunxi.c#L1003 However the transfer never completes and the kernel logs a time out for each transfer after 120 seconds. I have tried modifying the driver with various options like disabling the SPI_GC_TP_EN, which pauses transmit when the receive fifo is full, but it has no effect. Finally after hours of futile tinkering I decided to change m…

I'm spending some time on one of those famous Q8 tv boxes (ENY Q8, VSmart Q8, etc...) which sports the rk3288 soc I started with recent u-boot and kernel releases. Rockchip provides a recent u-boot (late 2017) and an LTS 4.4 kernel on their rockchip-linux github account. I compiled u-boot (from here) using a the device tree source from DengueTim (available here, in arch/arm/boot/dts/rk3288-q8.dts). I had to enable the serial driver though, because the device tree is "kernel flavour", instead u-boot wanted explicitly the serial port in "chosen" section. Compilation goes fine and u-boot boots from the SD card, prints Model, Ram and MMC infos on …
