I have a NanoPI M4 hooked up to a Uniroi 1024x600px HDMI screen running Armbian Buster 5.10.43-rockchip64 booting to a console (no X). My issue is, that the console resolution is set to 1024x768px after boot which makes the screen almost unreadable. Can I somehow fix the console resolution to 1024x600 (e.g. by setting some values in armbianEnv.txt or similar)?

Hi, I am using Nano Pi Duo2 (Allwinner H3) with latest Armbian OS. My goal is to have all the OS and Data on SD Card Encrypted. It should be secure from hacks. In Developer Guide, LUKS encrypted rootfs needs a key to unlock. In our case we want the device to unlock itself so key has to be stored on the Allwinner H3 securely. Has anybody implemented it on Allwinner H3 ? Is there alternative solution to secure the data on the device.

I have successfully got my Rock pi4b with M.2 NVME storage to run Armbian 21.05.6 Focal and its really fast. I have installed the current stable version of KStars / Ekos and all works well except for my guide camera which is a Toupcam GCMOS 01200KMB. The camera works fine on my Raspberry Pi4 but won't connect on the rock pi4b running Armbian. Anyone else seen this problem? Any ideas on how to solve?

Hello, It has been years that I am using armbian and I would like to thank all the developers that contributed to this project. It is a really amazing work. I am writing this topic to see if someone faced the same issue that I have. I am using the nanopi neo core + minishield with the following image : Armbian_5.75_Nanopineo_Debian_stretch_next_4.19.20. I am using the SSD as my root file system. When I boot this equipment, it works without any problem. After some time (it can be months or weeks or days), I can't access anymore the device using ssh or using the serial debugger. If I plug in an ethernet cable, th…

Hello, I was running Armbian on my cubietruck, I believe Bionic Ubuntu. I wanted to upgrade to latest kernel, so I did a - apt-get update - apt-get upgrade - ambian-config and selected the lastest kernel And that was it. When rebooting, I end up with a try to contact a tftp server. The cubietruck has an SDCard and an SSD. Is there an easy fix or do I need to reinstall it completely, please? If I need to reinstall, do I have to backup all data, or is existing data preserved? (Traccar installation) Regards, Tomte

Just installed Armbian_21.05.1_Orangepipc2_buster_current_5.10.34 plus kernel headers and am now trying to build some kernel modules for it on the device itself, but the build script is complaining: File not found: /lib/modules/5.10.34-sunxi64/build/.config at ./scripts/make_kconfig.pl line 33, <IN> line 4. Is there any place where I can find this file for the stock kernel? Or a procedure for generating it myself? Many thanks.

Using latest freshly installed Armbian_21.05.1_Orangepipc2_buster_current_5.10.34, then went to armbian-config and installed kernel headers. There were no errors so I thought they now should be there, butl /usr/src is still empty. There is also nothing in the system logs that would indicate an error in installing them. Many thanks for any help.

Hey everyone...I've tried searching the problem I'm having and have tried different things...all so far to no avail. I'm relatively new to learning about pihole and decided to go out and buy the kit from ameriDroid (maybe should have built my own but decided to go this route to try and save myself some time). I received the kit today and started following the install instructions (I am attempting to install via SSH thru Putty). Once I reached the install command, I get an error stating: "Error: Unable to update package cache. Please try "apt-get update". I've tried the apt update/upgrade and I'm still getting the same error. The output from th…

Hello, Here is the end goal of what I am trying to achieve: I am using a rockpro64 and would like to be able to boot from SPI into a rootfs present on an encrypted hdd RAID. I tried building an image with root encryption enabled but apparently, has stated on the wiki, it is possible that no prompt will be shown during the boot process. This is exactly what is happening to me, the boot process halts without showing anyway of entering the passphrase. Is there a way to solve this issue ? Or to reach my goal with a different method ? Many thanks !!

So...I'm trying to find the linux headers for my Banana Pi M1, so I can install Wireguard on it. But seems there's no sanxi headers? Also...no headers for that kernel whatsoever. The generic ones stop at 4.18 then jump to 5.0. Then there's a bunch of raspi and raspi2 headers, and then the misterious to me linux-headers-edge-sunxi 21.05.6, which I guess won't work on mine. Where should I get headers for my Banana Pi? Also just in case, I'm a bit worried about doing something too drastic, since this little thingy is located in another continent. Thanks!

Good morning, I have made a board where I have put an RTC DS1307 to a Neo core nanopi. From what I have been able to see, the system loads some kind of RTC module called sun6i-rtc. this module "occupies" the / dev / rtc0 so when loading the DS1307 it assigns it / dev / rtc1. Can the sun6i-rtc be disabled in some way? On the other hand, if I do this command. hwclock -w -f /dev/rtc1 --verbose hwclock from util-linux 2.37.154-c2ca2 System Time: 1625751906.401974 Using the rtc interface to the clock. Hello! I follow instruction "Add names of overlays you want to activate to overlays= line in /boot/armbianEnv.txt" I try to find /boot/armbianEnv.txt but nothing. I see Build tools overview from https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/fcb8b6f195bbb76c83c612c425fdf08cfd48c68b/README.md And nothing about /boot/armbianEnv.txt May be documentation talking about build/config/bootenvrockchip.txt and build/config/zynq.txt and others txt files in build/config/ ? It looks like /boot/armbianEnv.txt is file on microSD after I burn armbian image on it. But reading docs I don't understand nothing about build/config/bootenv/rockchip.txt

Howdy, everyone! My apologies if this answer is available elsewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. I'm trying to better understand Armbian's policy toward closed-source components. Discussions on closed-components often times get confusing because "component" is overloaded, so I'm separating "components" into several categories: 1. Firmware/microcode that is loaded into hardware but never executed by the operating system itself 2. Drivers that operate in kernel space (often called "binary blobs") 3. Software that runs in user space 4. Firmware for "autonomous subsystems" or "coprocessors" like the Intel Management Engine or ThreadX on the Ra…

Hi, I know at least some distributions don't remove modules of currently running kernels. Even when upgrading kernels and modules. Also, armbian has files like /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove etc, which look like they're meant to accomplish the same (protect selected kernel modules from removal), but have in fact no effect (by default). How can I prevent removal of files on upgrade (specifically, kernel modules)? That is, enable the /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove and related things to have an effect, or set some other option to do something similar. Actually, I would also prefer to keep a few previous kernels and support …

Hello, I'm a novice Armbian user (I deployed a number of $8 Rockchip 3328 SBCs as security monitors which for the last few months have been working just fine). I have six identically configured SBCs that I have been regularly updating - about once every few weeks, I run 'sudo apt update' and 'sudo apt upgrade' just to make sure the systems have the latest updates to Armbian and the various software packages I depend on. Up until yesterday, updates were working just fine. Yesterday, I tried to update the SBCs, and all six threw the same errors during 'sudo apt update'. Hi, I have "ARMBIAN Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) 4.6.5-sunxi" running on a BananPi R1 router. I used to have it set up such that while it booted off the SD card, it had its root FS on an SSD. Some time ago, I had to re-install as an upgrade went fatally wrong and now I cannot remember the exact steps to switch from the SD card to the SSD as the root FS. I changed the root= in /boot/boot.cmd and generated the /boot/boot-scr and also changed the /etc/fstab entry but findmnt -n -o SOURCE / still shows "/dev/mmcblk0p1". Can anyone tell me the steps to take in switching to a new root FS? Thanks and ... stay healthy! Josef

Hi all, I have a few orange pi zero's and recently on 2 I had an issue with wifi AP that I am trying to properly understand. I have read some of the discussion regarding the wifi chip on the opi0 and that's not a great chip. I thoroughly agree with people that say that if you pay bottom dollar for a board, don't expect top dollar performance. And especially don't come complaining on a public FOSS forum. The only thing I am trying to do is understand the error and see if there is anything I can do to improve it. I use my orange pi zero's with a basic (custom) armbian image that starts up with a wifi AP briefly, so I can ssh in and do some config. Afterward…

Hi guys, I stumbled upon an issue and I really hope someone can provide me with some insights. TL;DR: On my NanoPi M4 with Kernel 5.10.43 the upload bandwith is limited to about 70 % of the available bandwidth. With Kernel 4.4 it's ~95 % and with the friendlyarm-image I get the 100 % as reference. Expected behaviour: Usage of full available bandwidth I'm running a core version, no desktop. No configuration has been made on all three images and the tests have been performed with: iperf3 -p 5200 -N -t 20 -c speedtest.wtnet.de Result with Kernel 5.10.x (Armbian_21.05.1_Nanopim4_buster_current_5.10.35.img): 8.03 Mbits/sec …

Hello folks, I have been searching a lot on this topic without finding any solution. I have a bananapi and an edimax ac usb stick. I set it up to be a hotspot a few years back, it was working quite well and I stored an image as backup. To date, I wanted to re-use it but surprisingly, restoring that image on an SD does not produce anymore a working hotspot...this is awful/awesome since nothing has changed in between. This image is running on kernel 4.x (I have read on the forum that on kernel 5.x hotspot has problems) and I have also tried with the latest armbian OS based on kernel 5.x I don't know what to do anymore, since hostapd starts correctly, acc…

Hi, is there some specific reason why there is a kernel linux-source-5.8.16-sunxi as part of packages repository, but headers for such a version are missing? I saw similar post https://forum.armbian.com/topic/8347-install-linux-headers/ without any solution, but if there is a kernel package why the headers are missing? I assume headers were used during the build process... thanks

On attempting to disable `sound.target` in a Nanopi Neo3 I noticed that both `alsa-state.service` and `alsa-restore.service` use the same `ConditionPathExists=!/etc/alsa/state-daemon.conf` (apparently called Card State Management Schemes). This contrasts with the unit files on my host system, with `alsa-state.service` using `ConditionPathExists=/etc/alsa/state-daemon.conf` and `alsa-restore.service` using `ConditionPathExists=!/etc/alsa/state-daemon.conf`. What is the reason for using both services within the same scheme?

Hi, there is almost 0 documentation how to update u-boot; where to flash (dd) it, if it does support boot from rootfs on ZFS etc. Regarding the ZFS; here I assume /boot has to be on ext4/vfat and rest of the rootfs (/) as ZFS to make it works? Is there any way to flash more details on this part? I found files as following but no idea... /usr/lib/linux-u-boot-current-bananapi_21.05.1_armhf/u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin root@bananapi:/usr/lib/u-boot# pwd /usr/lib/u-boot root@bananapi:/usr/lib/u-boot# ls Bananapi_defconfig LICENSE platform_install.sh Also I wanted to do simple update; to make u-boot…

Hi, I have a really strange situation, which I don't understand and for so - I need help to solve it. I had 2 rockpi, one with sata hat which plays the nas role and one without sata drives, which is my frontend for home cinema (connected to AVR and beamer). Last few days I had the effect that the frontend froze and after close examination it turned out that all memory was used up. Fortunately, I already had a new rockpi with 1,4Gb memory. I thought I'd just change the eMMC and go on as before. But that was probably a big mistake. The new one did not start at all with the eMMC from the 1.2Gb rockpi. That's why I thought I had to compl…

My main desktop workstation is, in actuality, a server motherboard (KGPE-D16). I have a need to turn it on remotely from time to time. Apparently it is not capable of Wake on LAN, as that is a feature reserved for some add on server management card (which I don't have and am not going to purchase, as it requires some proprietary software). So I realized I could simply hook up some relay to a microcontroller to pull the power switch low for 200 ms or whatever. Well then I thought, I have a Cubietruck and an ODROID-XU4 (and a ROCKPro64 for that matter) right in the case which should have GPIO available and are already connected to Ethernet, why not use those instead... …

Hi, I have been using Armbian for the Tinker Board S for quite a while and communications with my peripherals using /dev/spidev2.0 had been working fine. I just did a an apt update and then an apt dist-upgrade and now it appears that /dev/spidev2.0 is gone. The /boot/armbianEnv.txt looks fine (untouched) and still has spi2 and spidev2 listed in the overlays. I did see that the dist-upgrade touched the rockchip overlay and I am trying to figure out what changed there. In the meantime, is there a way to get spidev2.0 back? Thanks in advance. I recently bought an Odroid HC4 to use as NAS. I then installed the latest Armbian (kernel 5.10, so pretty current one) and zfs-dkms (2.0.3-1, from backports - so again should be pretty current). Like 40 to 70MB/s when copying via Samba (depending on which cypher I create the dataset with, no compression or deduplication) and CPU pegged at 100% bad. I was honestly surprised by this, considering the S905X3 is supposed to have hardware crypto acceleration (and cryptsetup benchmark shows results more in line with …

Hi, I just updated my armbian current to 5.10.35 and I'm quite excited, as pwm and gpio works as with LE :) Then I tried to mount some nfs-shares from nas. Usually I only have to install nfs-common. I did that on armbian, but when I try to mount a share, I get the error message, that nfs protocol (version) is not supported. The used command work on every other system I have (desktop and rockpi). I just use 'nfs' as filesystem type - no version specified/requested. Is there something special on armbian, to have nfs support enabled?

Hello, I installed armbian on my board and decided to attach HDD to move rootfs on it. So I used script which you provide nand-sata-install. It worked as expected but not sure why it kept /boot still on SDcard? I do understand that uboot needs to be still on SDcard present, but uboot should be able to find /boot directory also on HDD partition, right? Or is there some compatibility issue, why this approach was decided? My concerns are if sdcard dies, i need to recreate not only uboot but also /boot. JV

Hi everybody, I'm using the Armbian Buster mainline based kernel 5.10.y image on https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-zero-plus-2-h3/ but I also tried the Focal one. I searched the forum deeply and I saw that someone in the past (forum post closed, otherwise I would have continued there) managed to have BT working by "faking" the /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin, that boot tries to load having error -2, copying the ap6212/fw_bcm43438a1.bin in its place. But it seems that it only works with legacy images, infact, with my mainline image I keep failing. Which legacy image should I look for? I was thinking that https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-zero…

Hello, I've been using a M4V2 since its release mostly as a NAS (disks over UBS 3.0). I also have it booting from a Samsung NVMe with the official NVMe hat. My setup works flawlessly however I was thinking about ways to add more storage with reasonable performance/price so I thought, what if I managed to add a standard PCIe x1 port from the pins on the board and use standard hardware with it. The idea was to add a cheap PCI switch + NVMe adapter (to boot from) and a PCI to SATA controller such as the following: 1) PCI Switch: https://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-Express-1X-to-4X-PCI-E-4-Ports-Switch-Multiplier-Expansion-Riser-Card-New/293564888…

I'm trying to use H6's ARISC (CPUS) core for my CNC project https://allwincnc.github.io/ There are no problems to switch ARISC (CPUS) clock source using H3 and H5 (latest Armbian Buster). But for the H6 this register (R_PRCM) isn't properly documented. Found out this register was moved to the 0x07010000. But modifying this register at offset 0x0000 doesn't take any effect. Spoiler Linux sinaspi 5.10.16-sunxi #21.02.2 SMP Sun Feb 14 21:12:17 CET 2021 armv7l GNU/Linux Distributor ID: Debian Description: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) Release: 10 Codename: buster http://ix.io/3mQX In an effort to 'harden' the orangepi zero configuration (by making the user experience annoying), I have shortened the sudo password prompt timeout. On the orangepi zero board, the following setting results in a timeout of only 2 seconds, instead of 15 seconds: #[B…

Hello, Recently I installed docker on my armbian and motd got broken. Previously it was printing correctly information about traffic: RX today: 20,72 GiB But after installing docker and playing with some images motd is displaying following error: RX today: Error: Not all requested interfaces found in database or given interfaces aren't unique. The problem is that docker adds new network interfaces that are not initialized in vnstat. I've solved my issue by adding the new docker interfaces in vnstat: vnstat --add -i docker0 vnstat --add -i veth160e0f9 Perhaps /etc/update-motd.d/30-armbian-sysinfo script should somehow detect new interfac…

Hi, I'm new to armbian, running armbian focal on an ODROID HC4. I'm trying to setup ZFS but when I install the zfs packages it is failing to build the kernel module. I checked the release notes for ZFS 2.0.1 and it should support 5.10 kernels? Any pointers are appreciated. root@odroid:~# uname -a Linux odroid 5.10.34-meson64 #21.05.1 SMP PREEMPT Thu May 6 21:24:14 UTC 2021 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux root@odroid:~# dpkg -l | grep zfs ii libzfs4linux 2.0.1-1 arm64 OpenZFS filesystem library for Linux ii zfs-auto-snapshot 1.2.4-2 all ZFS automati…

If you're getting poor/bad audio performance from an audio VST on the N2+, it can sometimes be the context switching between the BIG.little ARM cores. In my case, Pianoteq was giving me a lot of x-runs and wide fluctuations in performance when it switched between the 2x low-performance and 4x high-performance cores. One way to get more stable performance is to assign the application to the 4x high-performance cores like this. taskset -c 2,3,4,5 'Pianoteq 7' On the N2+ the 2x low-performance are numbered 0 and 1. The 4x high-performance cores are 2,3,4,5. 'Pianoteq 7 STAGE' is the name of the application being assigned. This is more useful …

If anyone needs to get the 3.5mm audio jack working on the N2+, here's one method. 1. Edit or create /etc/asound.conf with these lines. Copied directly from the Hard Kernel Ubuntu setup. pcm.!default{ type hw card 0 device 1 } ctl.!default{ type hw card 0 } 2. Run this script to turn on the 3.5mm audio in alsamixer. The settings are listed in the same order as in alsamixer. #!/bin/bash # 3.5MM JACK, set to max gain amixer sset 'ACODEC' '255' # 3.5MM JACK - set in/out channels (src/sink) amixer sset 'FRDDR_B SINK 1 SEL' 'OUT 2' || true amixer sset 'FRDDR_B SRC 1 EN' 'on' || true # 3.5MM JACK amixer sset 'TOACODE…
