Ubuntu changed the location of the mini.iso file for the minimal Ubuntu (Server?) installer in their file servers (since the 20.04 release), it's now located here: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/installer-amd64/current/legacy-images/netboot/mini.iso The docs should be changed since it could be confusing for new users/developers.

Hi all, I am using Armbian Bionic on ASUS Tinkerboard S board(s) in an application where the power may fail at any point. I have now, for the second time, seen a running OS starting to fail with the error. ALERT! /dev/mmcblk0p1 does not exists. Dropping to a shell! I have restarted the board several times, but the error continues. If I do a: (initramfs) blkid /dev/mmcblk2p1: UUID=.... /dev/mmcblk2: PTUUID=.. It seems that the OS tries to boot from the wrong device. If I then, booting from another OS using SD card, change the /boot/boot.cmd rootdev: setenv rootdev "/dev/mmcblk2p1" And rerun the mk…

Hello. I feel like this is a really basic stupid question, but for the life of me I can't find an answer. Every thread that I read about getting a display XYZ to work in Armbian references using fbtft. But apparently fbtft is now deprecated and cannot be used anymore. So.. what do I do now? I'm mainly looking to get ILI9341 -based 3.2" TFT and MPI3508 3.5" TFT to work with Armbian. Mainly testing with an Orange Pi Lite2 and Orange Pi 3 currently. I've read this: downloaded, compiled and installed the .dts. Also modified/added line to boot.cmd to use lcd as display according to https://docs.armbian.com/Hardware_Allwinner/ tha…

Hello everyone. I'm trying to configure wifi on my orange pi zero based on armbian buster. I planed to work in two wifi modes - client mode and access point mode. Wpa_supplicant allows me to register several networks in one configuration file, one of the networks can be with the option mode = 2, which means an access point. Then if during scanning wpa_supplicant does not find available points for connection, its own access point is created (which with mode=2 in conf file). I have problems with connecting other clients to this access point (it sees, but always reconnect). dnsmasq works as dhcp server as service, but i try to connecnt with static Ip on client too - no resul…

Hello, Trying to compile the Qualcomm Gobi serial USB drivers for a Simcom wireless chip on a NanoPi Neo2 (sunxi64). I've loaded the kernel headers via armbian-config and typically this specific header file would be in drivers/usb/serial. We're using the pre-built image. Is there an easy way to get this into our kernel or do we have to embark on a full compile? Any help very much appreciated Rob

Actually this is answer not a question . How to drive things with the OrangePi board with smartphone? My GOAL was : 1. create Access Point with Orange Pi Lite board. 2. create wireless local network with Nodejs 3. connect my smartphone to this wireless network So , I think almost all kind of boards could work , from Raspberry pi , Orange pi and many others boards families with wireless adapter . This is tested on OrangePiLite board with OS-Armbian 5.65 with node.js installed. First you have to create two files - server.js and index.html(see below) server.js is your nodejs server script file who will handle index…

Hi, I have an Orange Pi Zero configured as a Wireless Access Point (via armbian-config) and it works great. However, I want to be able to scan for wireless networks whilst configured as an AP. I just got a working version of the mcp251x.dts overlay running an the Allwinner H3, and ran into a few issues along the way. I'd like to save someone the pain and maybe find the right place for a bug report for the old version of dtc in the image. Compiling the overlay with armbian-add-overlay fails on the target system because the following throws: dtc -@ -I dts -O dtb -o mcp251x.dtbo mcp251x.dts ... dtc: livetree.c:521: get_node_by_phandle: Assertion `(phandle != 0) && (phandle != -1)' failed. aborted The best reference I can find for this symptom is: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10015389/ Following them, commenti…

Hi all, this is somewhat odd. I am using the nextcloudpi image NextCloudPi_Rock64_03-28-20.img. I believe it uses armbian (I am really not an expert sorry) and my problem is really not nextcloud related i believe. I had to cut the power to the rock64. Then i rebooted. The system clock is set to some early date (2016-xx-yy). Therefore the unmount is in the future causing an fsck. It fails miserably and drops to initramfs (where i really am lost). I don't think this should happen. I dont have a rtc battery - maybe this wouldnt be an issue if there was one attached? I hope someone can tell me how to progress or how to provide better insight …

I'm using an Orange Pi Prime to build a Magic Mirror. The module I'm trying to install is for switching the HDMI on/off with a PIR sensor. The module is called MMM-PIR-Sensor. The readme file it says to execute this command sudo chmod u+s /opt/vc/bin/tvservice && sudo chmod u+s /bin/chvt. The result I get is:chmod: cannot access '/opt/vc/bin/tvservice': No such file or directory. I believe the module is set up for Raspberry pi and the issue I'm having is due to disconnected libraries? Anyways, I'm relatively a novice so any help to figure this thing out is greatly appreciated. The OS I'm using is Armbian 20.02.1. Let me know if there is any other info need…

I have compiled Armbian buster with Linux 5.4.32-rockchip64 with additional option in RTC clock and enabled DS1307. Everything is fine, the board can communicate with DS1307, but I am unable to use this /dev/rtc1 as the main hwclock instead on /dev/rtc (it points at /dev/rtc0 which is built in RTC). I have read many forums on Raspberry, this forum but it doesn work. I did: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/5346-rtc-ds1307-i2c-for-tinkerboard/ 1) Add "echo ds1307 0x68 > /sys/class/i2c-adapter/i2c-7/new_device" to /etc/rc.local, above the "exit 0" line at the bottom 2) In /lib/udev/hwclock-set comment out the lines below if [ -e /run/systemd/s…

I installed Armbian Bionic Desktop 4.4 on the emmc module and I also have an SD card in. I try to use the pwm from GPIO to PWM control a fan. I would need around 20kHz with a variable duty cycle. As far as I understand I need to activate the pwm overlay, but its only available for the h5. Can I change the UART or I2C overlay to achieve this or should I try to write my own overlay? Is that even doable?

Hi all, I bought a Orange Pi PC 2 a couple of months back, loaded the Armbian image successfully and tweaked it until it was just right for my application. As this piece of hardware was going to live on a remote property, I bought another 2 Orange Pi PC 2 boards and some new SD cards with the intention of having 2 backups - one for development and the other as spare. I cloned the SD card by copying the active EXT4 partition across to the blank SD card using GParted. The long and the short of it is that these images did not work. I know the hardware is good as the original SD card works in the new OPi PC2 boards. Likewise the new cards don't wo…

Hi, I have Armbian-Buster installed on my ODROID-HC2. And everything is working perfectly. But today I opened armbian-config and installed Pi-Hole, installed OK. Checked to install Radarr. I want to REMOVE all three. When I open armbian-config and select the pi-hole or Radarr, the interface just blinks and return to the list, Nothing is uninstalled. Where's the log file so I can see what may be the problem ? …

I've installed Armbian on my brand new Odroid N2. I realise it still is WIP, but almost everything works great. There is just one issue, which prevents me from setting it up the way I want. I use my eMMC card to boot the system. I've also added a larger A1 SD card for application data. However, after a reboot the SD card isn't recognized. There isn't even a message about it in dmesg log. But when, after booting, I remove the SD card and insert it, all of the sudden it's detected and mounted. Does anyone know how I kan make this happen at boot, so I don't need to physically access the device in order to use it after a reboot?

Hello, I have been trying for a few weeks to get this LCD dsiplay (Store Wiki) to work with the NanoPi Neo Air. The display driver required is apparently the ST7789V. before you start: Armbian already provides kernel build script in armbian build framework, and you can download these packages via `apt` in common cases, you shouldn't build kernel yourself, even you want to build a customer kernel package, you should use armbian build framework. because you can get best supports. so below content is only for experts. prepare source code: 1, stable linux kernel source code: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git https://kernel.googlesource.com/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git 2, armbian build framework, fo…

So I just got my Orange Pi Prime board today and I tried the Ubuntu Bionic desktop image on it. (Armbian 20.02.3 Bionic current 5.4.18 desktop) Things didn't go like I expected... When I got into the desktop, all I saw was a missing taskbar, a white background (instead of a grey one) with a penguin on it. However, all the items on the taskbar worked normally. I thought that wasn't much until I tried to open Chromium, the whole window was white and I couldn't interact with it. I couldn't open the terminal either (clicking on its entry in the menu didn't launch it) I was shocked as I thought something was wrong with my board. So I told myself …

Hello, Armbian devs, I have customized a kernel for an existing Armbian system. I wish I can replace the kernel on the system directly without going throught Armbian build system. According to what Martinayotte told me, there are 3 symbolic link to kernel image, dtbs, and uInitrd actually to boot. I am using armbian with Orange Pi Pc. I am using Chromium, Netsurf browser. Both these browsers can display chinese characters without problem. However, w3m is unable to display chinese fonts. Is there any solution for this issue? (I think this is not a w3m issue, as i can display chinese fonts via w3m in puppy linux, ubuntu etc in other machines)

Orange Pi PC+ I have been using an image generated in 2019 (based on Debian 9) to develop code for a project. On the development machine it works well. I moved it to a machine running a custom Armbian build (simply having removed drivers that weren't necessary - sound etc. - and requiring that u-boot not search USB devices before starting the kernel) that was based on the same version (reported as Debian 9). It worked as expected. No probalme there then. Yesterday I rebuilt the Armbian image (now based on Debian 9.12), loaded it on to the client machine and went to run the software. I now get the error; "Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-version.c: 224: …

Hi there, this might be a dumb question but I've done some searching and haven't gotten any closer to a solution, so, my apologies. I need to connect to my NanoPi M4 over the serial UART because I've made the eMMC unbootable, and I need to tell the board to boot from microSD so I can fix it. I've attempted to do this in both 'minicom' and 'screen' at 1500000 8N1 and the result is the same either way. I can see output from the NanoPi just fine, but when I attempt to send characters, it only displays a question mark imprinted on a square for each character, similar to what I'd expect if e.g. the character was not in my terminal font. It's not just a …

Hi, My ODROID-HC2 has just arrived and I flashed a SDCard with a fresh Armbian Sketcher fot it. Did the initial configuration, with apt-upgrade and then opened Armbian-config and selected to install OpenmediaVault (the only other things installed are SAMBA and Softether). The installation started whiteout any problem, but I got some errors the it tried to install openmediavault extras package. Since all logs were vanished after the install stopped, I cannot post here. But when I try to install again, I get this errors: If I try to do an apt Upgrade I receive the following error: alexantao@NAS:~$ sudo apt up…

Hey folks, I know I should rather post in the OMV forums, but those are in maintenance until next week, maybe someone here uses OMV on a HCx. I flashed the Armbian minimal image, booted, SSHd into it, ran updates, ran the OMV install script and rebooted. Now I still can SSH into the HC1, but the there is no OMV interface running for the browser. During the OMV installation it complained something about something like openmediavault-flashmedia or something but apart from that finished successfully as far as I can tell. Here's the output in the console windows as far as I can scroll back: Spoiler - directory mask = 0700 - …

I have one problem a bit hard to explain. I had a monitor with VGA, and that was working with my Orange Pi Plus 2e, but I had to change the monitor to DVI and the screen doesn't work anymore. I can't see anything. even if I try to run with my television (32'') i can see the screen when it's loading the armbian (the commands), but when it tries to open the GUI I cannot see anymore. I want to cancel the autologin to GUI to change the size to use the command line to change the screen size, but I have no idea how to do it, I didn't find anyway to do that. Anyone has any idea?

Hello, I'm actually working on the implementation of the MAX9860 Mono Audio Voice Codec in the devicetree. TheTLV320AIC3204 audio codec works fine and the operating system (Linux embedded) can see it with the command "aplay -l". So in the kernel, i have activated the MAX9860 audio codec, however, i don't know how to declare it in the device tree next to my TLV codec. So i have tried something like this in my i2c node: max9860: max9860@10 { compatible = "maxim,max9860"; reg = <0x10>; clocks = <&max9860_clock>; clock-names = "mclk"; supply-av = <®_aud_avdd>; su…

Hello, Amrbian devs, Thank you for the efforts first. I'm fiddling with some of SBC including PineH64, Rock Pi4... Sometimes, I have to provide a new kernel or add modules. So after the kernel modules are installed. How can I edit boot loader to start it. I discover /boot/boot.cmd and boot.scr contains a line "DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE" So how can I start another kernel image? Is the init ramdisk is required? Thank you.

Hi all, I can't find any documentation (i prob just don't know where to look), so just a quick question: I have a Mi Box S, and i can run Armbian fine on it, it uses "booti ${kernel_addr_r} ${ramdisk_addr_r} ${fdt_addr_r}" to load the kernel images, i'm assuming they are all unsigned. But i would also like to run unsigned app images (openElec/emuElec/etc) which use "bootm <kernel_addr>" but those return an error: aml log : Sig Check 1467 So my question is are you guys doing any "magic" to get it to load, or does "booti" not do a signature check where as "bootm" does? Thanks.

Greetings everyone. I have sucessfully used Armbian Bionic in a production environment. Its really great. I am now evaluating Armbian Buster and I am seeing a strange issue perhaps you can direct me where to look so I can do troubleshooting. With the board connected to our corporate network, it takes about 48 hours when the whole board (OrangePi+ 2E) will crash with the CPU burning up. The second time it happened I had htop running to try and diagnose the problem. Investigation revealed that rngd became unstable due to the nm-applet. This led me to re-running the known conditions when this happens, with the network disconnected and now it doesn't cras…

Hey. I have a beer-brewing machine which has software running on an olimex A13-SOM board, that has a capacitive touch panel attached to it. The company (Brewie) did'nt survive, but I really like the machine, and the potential it has. The board is running a very slimmed down linux system, so it's a bit difficult to sniff stuff out, and expand on it - so I want to install a more recent linux system on it, and try making new software for it as a shared project with other people using this machine. I been running my own images with great success thanks to rock solid build environment but one thing that catches me by surprise every now and then is that updating the system can also overwrite my custom kernel, which is is far from ideal. Up until now I been issuing an apt hold command for the packages but I was thinking maybe there is a better way. Because even with the hold in place if I don't pay close attention and do an apt dist-upgrade for example they will still be replaced despite the hold. Is there a better way to prevent my kernels from being updated by the stock kernel? Cheers!

This may not be an 'armbian' thing at all, but if not, maybe I'll get a little direction. My first "image" with armbian I downloaded had some 3.4.x kernel on it. After some learning, I was able to get GPIO to work with it. I had some other limitations though. So, I decided to build my own image (buster) so I could customize it. After booting, I GPIO did not work. I explored this, but was unable to to get it to work. I tried a -legacy version (which was 4.x) but also, GPIO did not work. This is my first sunxi experience. So, I'm not sure of the tricks used to get it to work. Either it's broken, or there are patches/config for the kernel …

Hello. I use Retrorange Pi on Orange pi pc+ and the kernel includes a uinput module for implementing console utility management from the gamepad. Unfortunately, in this 5.3.0-dev-rc8 core, the CPU temperature information does not work. I switched kernel to 5.4.20-current via armbian-config. In this kernel, the cpu temp readings work, but unfortunately, there is no uinput in the modules. Can I somehow build this module separately for 5.4.20-current without recompiling the entire kernel? Or is it possible for respected developers to re-enable the module in future kernel releases? With best regards, Sergey

Hello! First post so apologies for any naivete. I have a USB wifi adapter connected to my la frite (it was the only distro that supported it out the box so thank you). I don't want to talk about how long i beat my head against this but i have it working so i thought i would share. First, in the 5.4.y kernels, the fbtft_device module seems to be missing? Greetings, I set up an an armbian build environment, and went through the initial build, which took some time. Subsequent rebuilds took a couple hours as well, and I discovered I could 'skip' rebuilding the kernel unless I wanted to build it. Now, I'm testing customize-image.sh, things aren't always going where I want. so, I troubleshoot, make changes, but now my minimum build time is 30-40 minutes. Is there something else I can do to speed up the process?

Hi, I have checked that the GPIO Interruptions are very slow. If i receive a wave in a GPIO with IRQ edge enable, for a frequency of 100Hz, all IRQs detected are right (100 interruptions received) However if i increase the frequency of the wave up to 500Hz, i can't detect all the IRQs received, (50 interruptions received more or less) Well, i think maybe, the solution is to change the following kernel parameter: CONFIG_HZ=1000 instead CONFIG_HZ=250 (default) What do you think ?? Is there other solution?? Thanks a lot in advance

Hey folks, The tl;dr version of my question is "is there a way to stop tmpfs from being used for things like /tmp, /run, etc.?" Essentially I have an OPi Zero running PiAware and graphs1090. Graphs1090 is throwing a bunch of images into a folder under /run, which is causing the amount of free space to drop below 16M. As a result, systemctl refuses to restart some services because there isn't enough free space on /run. So...is there a way to disable the use of tmpfs for folders like /run or /tmp? Honestly, I'd rather just take the hit to the SD card rather have to deal with issues like this.

Are there any commands to show information that could tell me about the level of power consumption ? E.g.: energy saving state of CPU or the like ? On the SBC i am using, i think the power consumption is lower when running the same setup with kernel 5.4, and higher with legacy kernel 4.4. Alas, 5.4 has other problems, so i want to try to figure out what settings/features reduce power consumption in 5.4 and maybe i can then configure them equally in 4.4. This is rockpi4a rockchip3399.
