just downloaded orange-pi-3-lts's latest debian bookworm available on your website I found out that apt sources includes a reference to a beta repository didn't expect that and I'd rather prefer to avoid beta... what's better: just comment out the beta updates or build a custom image not containing betas?

Hello, I've an Orange Pi H3 board and I should use it on an old vga Acer 15" monitor. Usually with the other SBC and video outputs, I used the usual HDMI to VGA converters that doesn't have an external psu but seems to take the voltage from the 18 pin of the HDMI outputs. With this monitor that is indeed correctly identified by EDID on the adapter and on the Armbian o.s., the screen goes blank and return every few seconds randomly. I measured the PI One H3 pin 18 voltage and it gives out something like 4,6v to 4,8v and I think this might be the problem (?). I remember on the Rpi there was an option to boost the hdmi output and I suppose it increased that. Is there an…

Hello to all, after plug a CDC device (Honeywell 1900 USB scanner), only one USB port on orange pi pc board works, I use 10 orange pi boards, the problem is only present int two of this boards. I notice that when I plug the CDC device alone the other ports not to work, but when I connect the CDC with another devices (mouse, keyboards) the problem is not present. I reinstall the img and the problem persists. The two USB ports not to work anymore. I think that is a hardware problem because the 5V in the two USB ports are not present, and the plugged devices not to work! I use Armbian_5.83_Orangepipc_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113_desktop.img …

Hi, I got a problem with orange pi zero and audio record latency. What I try to do is to record the audio on orange pi zero, send data to my phone and play it here, but the delay is big(around ~1-1.5s) that's is quite a lot. I've tested it for a few days now and I am sure the delay is on the device. What is interesting sending audio the other way(phone->orange pi zero) has no delay at all(~0.1s). First I tried to use Qt(5.9) and QAudioInput, now I switched to alsa libraries but no results. I also tried to use command line to check this arecord | aplay but still I can hear the delay. Is there any way to decrease the latency? …

Hello, I would like to set up a small server, mostly for home sftp & torrent needs (maybe a voip server like Mumble). My requirements and questions fall into 3 categories: 1.) Openness & community support 2.) Stability 3.) Future viability 1.) One of my main requirements is for the board to be open / running on as little software blobs as possible. I would like to support manufacturers who seem to care for open source community. The two main manufacturers I see mentioned regularly are Olimex and CubieTech and the A20 as a best supported SoC. I'm currently looking at CubieTruck and OLinuXino-Lime2 but I'm wandering: …

Hello, I wish to share my research on getting OpenGL to work on Mali GPU. I realize Armbian focuses on server images, but I suppose many people would be interested nevertheless. I have a Banana Pi Pro and an Orange Pi PC, which both have a compatible GPU. Perhaps it will work on other boards as well. Here are the commands I used to get OpenGL to work. 1. Install: # install GLX Gears, mesa GL and GLU libraries apt-get -y install mesa-utils # install development tools apt-get -y install build-essential automake pkg-config libtool ca-certificates git cmake subversion # install re…

Hi, I'am the new one. I'am German and bought last month an OrangePi PC+ from AliExpress without a clue what todo with it, but it was cheap ;-) And it was perfect for my new OMV. Just installing OMV on top of Armbian / Jessie was not enough because of missing Quota Kernel Options. When setting up a development Enviroment, I found the excellent Build-Scripts of Armbian and thought, why not making an OMV-Image with the customize-image.sh. And here is it (quick and dirty v0.1) Just copy it with a modified kernel.config under userpatches. It should work with every supported Armbian Board as long as its working with Debian Jessie, because it installes OMV3.X I com…

Hi, guys. I need some help in understanding of usage AR100 (OpenRISC) coprocessor inside H3 SoC for the own real-time tasks. Now i'm using mainline kernel built with RT-PREEMPT patch. I'm using it with Machinekit (LinuxCNC) software to control stepper drivers/motors via GPIO step/dir pulses. But step pulses frequency is too slow (about 17 kHz) because the RT kernel latency is about 30 us. I think we can use the built-in coprocessor for the realtime GPIO toggling. The AR100 and main Cortex-A7 can talk to each other with built-in MSGBox. And the question is - how to launch my own firmware on the AR100 core?

Hello, I'm picking up my pine64 SBC for the first time in a long while. I want to have an always-on linux system for some home projects and this board ought to work nicely as I don't need any desktop running on it. Looking over the OS images available I decided to give opensuse a try; got it installed and running with no trouble. But it seems the 1.344GHz max speed of the board can't be enabled on this build, as the scaling_max_freq is set to 1.152GHz and no amount of "cpupower frequency-set -g ondemand -u 1344000" will convince it to go above 1.152GHz. I can go lower, just not higher. pine64:~ # cpupower frequency-set -g ondemand -u 1104000 Setting cpu: 0…

Greetings, I recently changed from an old loboris ubuntu distribution to armbian for my opi PC. I never had problems with it, it was just not getting updates for a long time since it's old and not a LTS. I never had problems with openvpn also.. installing from apt and creating ca's and users was a breeze. Now with armbian i simply cannot get it to work, i tried both with apt and compiling the latest version from source. I cannot get it to start. Doing systemctl start openvpn Job for openvpn.service failed because the control process exited with error code. Hello everybody, this is my very first post on armbian forum! I wanted to give a try to armbian on my bananapi M1 so I'm running the Debian Jessie server version. Hello! Recently i bought an Orange Pi 4 LTS. I choosen armbian for my os. I installed it to sd card, but I wanted more. I decided to flash the system to eMMc. It was a mistake. Instead armbian-config tool, i executed armbian-install, and flashed bootloader to eMMc 🤦♂️. After that, i was checking the sd card, reading the logs, nothing helped. I have official 5v 4a dc adapter, factory new sd card, but my board only shines with a red LED, and does not boot into the system.

There is only a desktop download for OPi 4 and it comes with XFCE desktop. I cannot change the color for the taskbar from the absolutely horrible charcoal gray, other than to the 16-color set. If I choose a light color, the font color doesn't automatically change to dark, or be set specifically, it stays as white. I cannot put the computer's name on the taskbar. I cannot put the temperature on the taskbar. I cannot put the CPU usage on the taskbar. With the taskbar on the left margin (deskbar), the icons for the launchers are single and huge - the full width of the taskbar, not in rows 0f 24 px icons like with LXDE. I cannot change the r…

I have been using my OPi 5 for several months with Armbian on my NVMe ssd. I decided to shift my SSDs around, and removed the one that was in my OPi5 and put in a new one. I burned the latest Armbian 23.8 Bookworm Cinnamon dated Aug 31, 2023 using BalenaEtcher onto an SD card, put it in the OPi5, and it booted fine. I did apt update and upgrade, no problems. I ran nand-sata-install hoping to transfer the system to the ssd and it failed. My memory is fuzzy due to panic setting in, but I tried the Jameschambers process to copy the system over, and then tried to boot off the ssd card, and it failed. When I tried armbian-config it failed to update the MTD and reported no s…

Hi All, just discovered this great project. Awesome to see it's so well frequented. I'm trying to do some realtime data acquisition on a OPi one with Armbian Debian Stretch. Following on from the link at the bottom, I'm trying to set an interrupt handler in my loadable kernel module onto a seperate core that I've isolated from the normal scheduler (using isolcpus=2,3 in boot.cmd/.scr). I've built the kernel using the Vagrant instructions with the 4.19.50 RT22 realtime patches. But I've also tested with no luck on the standard build from the download page. I'm using the irq_set_affinity_hint in the following manner, but it has no effec…

Hello. I am getting a kernel oops when I setup a masq firewall using firehol. It happenes when a device on the internal net trys anything more than a ping, like loading a web page or doing a speedtest. My network uses interface wlx??? as my external connection to the outside world (internet) and the builtin eth0 as my internal masq’d network (192.168.77.0/24). I am running armbian ubuntu, upgraded (up to date), with the kernel 4.10.0-sun8i and netmanager to configure the interfaces themselves. I'm experimenting with video transcoding but am getting problems when using vdpau to decode and the hw video encoder. Using this https://github.com/stulluk/FFmpeg-Cedrus and https://github.com/uboborov/ffmpeg_h264_H3 software decode & hw encode = 15-20FPS but high CPU usage. it can do 60FPS encoding rate with 960x540 30fps h264 source dropping the compression helps a bit too (-qp 24, default is 30) hw decode & hw encode of 1080 h264 = 1FPS, using 4k h265 as the source gives 1.5 FPS ffmpeg -hwaccel vdpau -i 1080p30.mp4 -c:v cedrus264 -c:a copy -pix_fmt nv12 out.mp4 Is the video engine designed to do transcoding?

I bought that DAC to my OPi - I tought it will be easier. I've configure PCM and TWI in FEX file (IIS works perfect on oscilloscope). Also I've made mods on DAC's board - Raspberry has PCM at other pins. But SPDIF still not working. I suppose, that WM8804 is in software mode, so I have to config it via IIC. My 3.4.113 Armbian doesn't have driver for that DAC. What can I do?

Hello to all. I'm trying to use the image Armbian_5.25_Orangepipcplus_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.9.4.img but I can not operate the webcam. Where could I find instructions (simple, if possible) to compile them? Thank you.

If you are reading this you've probably discovered that there are a few things about the Orange Pi series of boards that can be frustrating. I know I have been.. Orange Pi site distros, laboris distros, Armbian distros.. nothing seemed to make a difference. Reading about power supply issues, ornery boot processes, and overscan issues I was really beginning to think this was m…

Hey. I'm working on setting up octoprint on my opi zero +2(H5), aiming at running octodash on a small 3.5" spi waveshare clone display. So far I've got the display working fine, as in showing the console text, and also working in xorg. However, I have a bit of trouble with the touch part. I've combed through the forum and followed the guides I could find, and have a fairly good working DTS file, however, I can't seem to get pin number 11 to work. In the overlay files, it seems to be named PA1, but I couldn't get that to work, and there were a bit of oddities with what pins seemed to be enabled, in relation to the various overlays. Howe…

With the Orange Pi Zero 2 (Bullseye), when in Armbian-config I install desktop with browser...it seems working but when you enable the desktop it finished by a kill() in the terminal. You can solve the issue by apt-get install tightdm.after and not before. You will get the desktop for the user and not root. Grey Background with the pinguin. If you install Desktop in Bullseye with Orange Pi One Plus or Orange Pi Zero, no issue. You have the new Debian Desktop with a Background dark blue. Regards F1ATB.fr

My OPi Zero is not accessible via SSH after installing the new supported image Armbian 22.02 Jammy. After the install, the device is up and ping-able. Any attempt to SSH in with `ssh root@<ip-address>` ends in a `ssh: connect to host 192.168.88.9 port 22: Connection timed out` error. When I reboot the board and try again, it's still the same issue. A ping with `ping 192.168.88.9` works. For completeness, I tried also with the edge instead of the current jammy image. Same error.

Hi all, Semi-noob here so please be patient :) With the OPi Zero having rubbish WiFi I added a USB WiFi adaptor. I know it works as I've been using it on my OPi One running Retrorangepi. The Zero will be running OctoPrint in a room too far away from the router to run Ethernet cables. Lan scan shows the IP address as up but ping shows 100% …

I have attached external RTC module with DS3231 on TWI0 (/dev/i2c-0) and activated it with command echo ds3231 0x68 > /sys/bus/i2c/devices/i2c-0/new_device After that /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0 links to temperature sensor on DS3231 instead of SOCTEMP. So armbianmonitor -m shows temperature from DS3231 now. syslog shows error: thermal thermal_zone0: binding zone cpu_thermal with cdev thermal-cpufreq-0 failed:-22 Solution #1: use command "echo ds1307 0x68 > /sys/bus/i2c/devices/i2c-0/new_device" …

I am trying to remove a USB DBV-T receiver from the craptop to a less noisy Orange PI Zero (OPI0). I had to compile tvheadend and some modules but when I playback video I noticed that the output stalls (using the Ethernet, not the crappy WiFi). After checking a lot of things, I noticed that CPU usage was high (because of something else) so I bumped the governor up to performance from on demand. I stopped everything and retested by switching between ondemand and performance governors every 30 seconds. During the 30 seconds I noticied continuity errors only during the 30 seconds of ondemand. Is there a problem with the ondemand governor? …

Hey guys, one of my 2x OPI3 Allwinner H6 board wont boot from the micro SD card. That rather decrease me to a nowinner instead of an allwinner. But joking apart The red LED over the SD card is enlighted when all cables like keyboard, mouse, HDMI and ethernet are cable-connected. The red LED from the power is only a few seconds red and is switching to green, then the board boots to the pre installed Android.7 OS. The SD card will not be detected. When Android is up, there is a point called "local" at the bottom of the screen When I open "local" I can see "Local Memory" that possibly should be the SD card, Network Neighborhood (CIFS…

Hi I have used Armbian quite a bit now for various projects with great success and even debugged my own hard-to-solve issues. I am considering using an H3 based board (OrangePi + 2E) to replace the cheap junk media player I use. Incidentally Armbian will run on that device, but I am not sure what the video support is like- its a RockChip RK3xxx series SoC. Now, out of the box, Armbian (Buster, Focal, etc..) video playback stutters on Full HD (720p and up) content, particularly at full screen. I understand this is because I need to install a binary blob driver for the GPU? I've done this on normal desktop PCs before running Ubuntu, which is very easy to do, h…

I am attempting to format and mount a 256GB MicroSD as an external USB device on an OPZ. Formatting in EXT4 consistently throws errors but using FAT32 or VFAT works fine with the inherent limitations of those file systems of permissions and 4GB file size. So I would like to try formatting as EXFAT file system. EXFAT formatting of the 256GB MicroSD works fine in Linux Peppermint. When attempting to install the exfat apps I get the following error: __ apt update (OK) apt-get install exfat-fuse (OK) apt-get install exfat-utils (fails) Package exfat-utils is not available, but is referred to by another package. Just as warning - It seems that Orange Pi devices have quite "easy to burn" hdmi port. This post is quite clear about it: http://www.orangepi.org/orangepibbsen/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=1556 And case happened to me - I did it simply by plugging in and out hdmi cable. At some moment "no signal" is coming from HDMI (or maybe I should say "nothing is coming" ). It is on my Orange Pi PC. Now I wait for composite TV/Audio cable (in post I am referring there is information that TV out is still working). Or my device will be changed to "server" only...

First off, awesome job on all the Orange PI images. I have only had chance to try the Orange PI 2 image so far There are small issues I can find ,I don't know if their known: I cannot set resolution at all, its stuck on some low one. Doing it with this method here will result in black screen (I tested both with 50 and 60 hz): nano /boot/boot.cmd # example: # change example from # disp.screen0_output_mode=1920x1080p60 # to # disp.screen0_output_mode=1280x720p60 mkimage -C none -A arm -T script -d /boot/boot.cmd /boot/boot.scr Second issue is that reboot command just makes the machine die, it does not come up again. And finally a tiny …

I have an orange pi 2e running armbian 5.31. I wanted to use it as a pihole for blocking advertisements however it seems that it only has a link local address but no IPV6 connection to the internet. pinging 2001:4860:4860::8888 will show destination unreachable: Beyond scope of source address. However I have another PI, windows desktop on the same network than can ping the same IPV6 address. Is there a way to force "enable" IPV6?

Hello, I'm having trouble playing some videos on Orange Pi 3 (http://www.orangepi.org/Orange%20Pi%203/), especially those with full HD quality. I can even play the video, but it keeps crashing. I'm using MPV or VLC applications to play the video stream directly from YouTube. It is noteworthy that .mp4 files have crashing too, depending on the quality of the video. I'm using the following command, for example: mpv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_nJSlGRgX4 or vlc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_nJSlGRgX4 How does the hardware have these specifications: CPU: H6 Quad-core…

I managed to set-up the “hotspot” in the configuration, but once I take out the ethernet cable I cant view the site anymore from my phone that is connected to the orange pi hotspot. What can I do to make this work? https://imgur.com/a/5lecbHX

Hello, I'm turning my head around this problem, I have read numerous forum posts and docs but I didn't found an answer: Following https://linux-sunxi.org/GPIO, the same pin number calculation applies for sysfs and gpiod. But, for example, for PL2 it will be 11*32+2=354, or for opi3 lts there are only 255 line numbers for gpiochip1 (as per `gpioinfo gpiochip1`) :-S Pleeease tell me what am I missing !?!

I am going to have to type a lot of words which I have no idea what they mean.... but here goes. I have bought an Orange Pi 4 LTS and the official touchscreen which goes with it. This connects via a flat ribbon cable into what is called port LCD1. I believe it is MIPI - although have no idea what that means. The screen works perfectly, but is in portrait. I can rotate the screen to landscape with randr or in the gui, but the touch doesn't rotate with it. I tried using xinput (which wasn't installed) and xinput calibrate as well, but neither did anything. I believe that the screen was installed by adding a line in a file cal…

Hey there! I read on a post that using this firmware fixed someones board: https://dl.radxa.com/rock5/sw/images/loader/rock-5b/release/ I tried and I get the following: Downloa…

I recently purchased an Orange Pi 5 Plus and installed Armbian. It shuts down about every ten minutes. Strangely, when it is streaming video over HDMI it does not shutdown. So it can stream movies for up to three hours without shutting down. But if I am not streaming, for example if I am SSH into the device, it will shutdown after about ten minutes and I get booted out. I disabled system suspend in `settings > Power settings` but this did not help. I also just replaced the power supply with a 4 amp power supply (up from 3.5 amp) but this did not help at all. I also looked around 'armbian-config' but I did not notice any settings that could be the issue. …

I have connected matrix led display on max7219 by spi to orangepi. Module max7219 have power supply from 5v. On some during a 220v power failure (sparking between wires suspended on poles), there were some disruptions in the 5v power supply. This damaged the max7219 modules and possible spi port on orange pi. After this failure, the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file contained a fragment of the logrotate file, the kernel on the orange pi is unable to initialize the spi port despite no wires being connected. After connecting a working orange pi to the max7219 module, the problem with spi initialization also appears. Dmesg does not show anything related to spi, there is no /dev…

Good afternoon, I have just started studying the use of embedded arm linux for single-board computers. I'm asking for help from experienced developers. I have an orange pi lite. I uploaded a prebuild minimal armbian image to the microsd card: Armbian_community_25.5.0-trunk.444_Orangepilite_bookworm_current_6.12.23_minimal.img.xz .After that, I installed mate desktop environment according to these instructions: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/28786-install-mate-desktop-to-minimal-image-blues/. The problem is that the processor heats up very much under load (I registered a temperature of 95 degrees celsius using armbianmonitor) and periodically turns off due to overheating.…

I have a question. Because there is a big mess in the naming of the first Orangepi series. I have a board with orangepi mini 2 image working. Archived Armbian 5.05 kernel 3.4.119. Orangepi pi 2 images do not launch. In appearance and specifications, the Orangepi PC 2 and mini 2 are almost identical. https://linux-sunxi.org/Xunlong_Orange_Pi_Mini_2. However, the specification for the mini 2 exists, although the manufacturer himself does not provide it on its main website. Could you add an introduction to the orange pi mini 2 board, with the old 3.4 kernel, so that you can build a system? Or maybe someone has some archival image to share?

I'm using an Orange Pi Prime to build a Magic Mirror. The module I'm trying to install is for switching the HDMI on/off with a PIR sensor. The module is called MMM-PIR-Sensor.
