Hello, I am wondering which board I should buy between thoses 2 : Orange Pi Plus 2E Allwinner H3 39$ (all in one) and ODROID-XU4 Exynos5422 80$+taxes(=~100$) I want a board that can deliver good transfert speed over the network to host files. So good bandwidth for network AND I/O for the hard drive. Plus I have a 4K TV so I would love to enjoy it (not sure 4k is supported by both cards) Obviously the XU4 is faster (and with usb3) but nearly twice the price so.. It has to to worth it. So, do you have some hints / numberses to show ? Best kernel support. Best co…

I am looking for recommendations, the outstanding group here has knowledge of pretty much every board out there I would think. I have had to abandon my OPI projects today. They are just not stable/usable. A board specific crash at every turn. Comes with a legacy kernel that doesn't even support a working BTRFS. The up to date mainline kernel is also far from working I am told. Ethernet masq causes reboot, out of memory killing processes/servers while there is lots of free ram and swap, SD slot crashes periodically making the system unusable till the storage is removed and is checked/repaired by a working system. So, even working around everything, with a repla…

Hi all, I have been playing with a NanoPi Neo and the 2.8" screen with toutchscreen also from friendly Arm on Linux nanopineo 4.11.0-sun8i. Making it work was not very easy since it was the first time I messed with device trees, also add to rewire the screen to use a different pin for the touchscreen chip select since the connector is a column bigger that the neo's. I can provide more information or the dts file if it is of interest to someone. TL:DR: The problem is that the toutchscreen accuracy is not so great especially on the top part of the screen. I see that the ads7846 driver which I'm using has a "model" option which by being set…

Hello. I am getting a kernel oops when I setup a masq firewall using firehol. It happenes when a device on the internal net trys anything more than a ping, like loading a web page or doing a speedtest. My network uses interface wlx??? as my external connection to the outside world (internet) and the builtin eth0 as my internal masq’d network (192.168.77.0/24). I am running armbian ubuntu, upgraded (up to date), with the kernel 4.10.0-sun8i and netmanager to configure the interfaces themselves. When I replace eth0 with a cheap usb dongle, everything just works so it seems isolated to the builtin eth0. My eth0 is configured to…

Hi, After the latest website changes, downloads of the Debian versions went deeper and I have a feeling that Ubuntu versions are promoted. I used to use Debian in development as it is developed more rapidly. Are there any plans for the future in this area? As much of my work is script based that may mean a big change for me... Thanks...

Did someone else notice the the color saturation is to high on HDMI if a Video is played? Test video watch temperature of CPU and add a heatsink! May be the is an option for HDMI to change this? Especially Faces in normal TV shows are far to red. DISPLAY=:0 mpv --vo=vdpau --hwdec=vdpau --hwdec-codecs=all --fs http://ow.ly/10tB0C Olso interesting would be to know how smooth the VIDEO rans is far to slow in ma case.

Thanks to help in another thread to solve our eMMC problems, we are making progress getting Armbian working well on the H2+ boards we have. Now we would like to be able to make a snapshot of the eMMC device and then be able to write the whole image to another board. I have been able to create a single file backup using both these methods (done after booting from SD). The created files appear to be the same size. dd if=/dev/mmcblk1 bs=16M | gzip -c > /mnt/usbflash/emmc.img.gz or ./backup_block_device.sh (from https://code.online-mp.pl/svn/public/backup_block_device/trunk/) To write the image, we'd like to use FEL. …

We have an H2+ based board that is very similar to the Orange Pi Zero. Basically it is equivalent to a Zero board with a different Wi-Fi chip and adding an eMMC chip. The SD card is on the SDC0 bus and the eMMC chip is on the SDC2 bus. The SDC1 bus isn't connected. We have been using the stock Orange Pi Zero Jessie images on SD card and they work pretty well (thanks to you guys for your hard work) We want to put a Jessie image on the eMMC but we are having trouble. First we tried the nand-sata-install script but it wouldn't run without the eMMC device. We edited the lib/config/fex/orangepizero.fex file and changed sdc_used for mmc2 to …

I'm fairly new to Linux, so excuse me when I'm asking the obvious. I'm using ARMbian 5.25 stable Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS 3.4.113-sun8i on a Orange Pi Zero, RTL-SDR and DireWolf When I execute from prompt: rtl_fm -f 144.80M - | direwolf -c sdr.conf -r 24000 -D 1 - Everything starts up as it should. But as I'm planning to use a headless setup, some self sustaining feature after power failure or whatnot is necessary. I figured out how to configure a cronjob and it starts a shell script when the software is not running. In that shellscript I'm using: DWCMD="bash -c 'rtl_fm -f 144.80M - | direwolf -c s…

Hello, i am very new to using armbain. I picked up an orange pi lite and loaded armbain debain jessie using etcher on a 16gb card. when i install it to the orange pi lite and power it on it asks me for a user name and password. i did as instructed using rot and 1234. then i added my name and made a new password as instructed. it then acts like its booting and says orange pi lite on the screen but wont boot the GUI desktop as it describes. it displays the name and some of the current states of the board (temp ect) but then sits at a command prompt waiting for input. i can type help and it will give me a list of commands that work for it but none indicate they will boot the…

Hi all, I have a Allwinner box (A31s, 1G memory, 8G eMMC). Armbian worked very well when I booted it from SDCard. But after I installed Armbian to its eMMC by following the guide, my box could not boot again from either eMMC or SDCard. Breaking the ice here. So hello everyone. I am still entry into SBCs and have been loving every moment of it. I started with the Raspberry PI 3B, and have recently been playing with the new Asus Tinkerboard. One of my SBC projects is to build a little media streaming device for some dumb monitors with HDMi input I have lying around. The Tinkerboard was very appealing to me because of its gigabit Ethernet, I thought it would make a much better quality internet streaming device. We seem to be lacking a browser for ARMh7 that can support Netflix and other like services playback. chromium is missing the needed WideVine plugin, and I have yet to find a …

I'm pretty sure I'm wrong here with my issue but since I'm out of ideas I gotta ask here just to make sure. I've successfully set up a vpn server on linksys router running dd-wrt. Hi all I need to develop a customized application on the OrangePi that uses this Allwinner H3 chip. So everything about this is the standard Armbian, with one change- I need to add security code into the loader to secure the board Prior to this I have only ever developed superloop C code on processors such as these i.e. no OS present. In those cases we had the development tools from the vendor or a JTAG probe. What I need to do is I need to customize the loader code to do certain security tasks. My question is, where is this loader sitting? (presumably its in the FLASH), and, is its source part of this distribution? Also, when they ma…

I have some DYI idea to make some custom ODBII Logger using SBC with Armbian. So I'm searching for suitable SBC: - quite small (50x50mm max), IoT category I think - with H3, at least 512MB RAM - eMMC at least 4GB, SD Cards support - 1 USB for pendrive - wifi in AP mode, just for ssh and copying small files via scp - second UART, freen 2xGPIO, and nice to have audio line-out also - and the most important: running Armbian in headless mode with booting from eMMC - working DVFS to keep temperature in lower levels, no heat dissipation problems (SBC will mostly work with low cpu usage, but I don't really know how low can be CPU/DRAM clock…

Hello. I just got the board to play with, but I can't find any specific documentation on how to build a specific image to such board. After researching on google, foruns, etc. I've found some *mentions* on using the bananapim2 config and build (since they use the same core), but it's not working. Building an image using bananapim2 profile, after power on the device start booting from SD, but shows me: unknow image format and start asking for TFP to find flash. Can you please point me toward some useful information on how to build an Armbian image on such card? Thank you in advance

After making some changes to my Armbian setup on the Odroid xu4, I decided to use the Win32DiskImager tool on my Win10 machine to make a bootable image from the microSD card. However, I've now tried two different micro sd cards (a Samsung and a Sandisk) for the backup, but Win10 tells me that it doesn't recognize the file system. It asks me if I want to format the cards. Obviously I don't, because neither would be usable my Odroid xu4. Any idea why I can't backup these Armbian xenial images? Is there a comparable tool on Linux (I have Fedora on another machine) that can make the backup? (I pulled this issue from another thread where it really didn't belong.) Thanks…

So I saw many thread with this question. Of course there are also good answers but I just don't understand. Out of the box HDMI works(hdmi2hdmi). Hdmi2dvi=doesn't work. Analog AV=doesn't work. I'm supposed to disable the hdmi and enable av-out by script.bin with something like [disp_init] My question is where is this file located? Am I suppose to vi create it? Hopefully someone could provide step by step or point me to the right direction with detailed information.

I guess this is hardware-independent, so I post here. Looking for ways to disable IPv6 I found 3 ways to achieve this on Linux, none of them really working for armbian debian build. 1. /etc/sysctl.conf: net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1 net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1 net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1 this disables the network interfaces to use IPv6, not IPv6 itself. This method is also known to cause trouble e.g with X-Forwarding via SSH and Postfix server. netstat still lists IPv6 entries 2. /etc/default/grub (GRUB tells the kernel not to load IPv6) This does not exist in armbian, I guess it is simply not using GRUB …

Hi there, I am using SD Card Copier on Raspbian to copy one Raspberry microsd card to another (can be smaller than original card) and it works great. But when I used it to copy armbian microsd card to another microsd card, another microsd card is unable to boot. Any idea what can be wrong? I love this approach because I am able to copy original card to smaller card but unfortunatelly Armbian OS is not able to boot (on the other hand Raspbian boots ok). When I use Win32DiskImager to copy Rasbian and Armbian, both new cards boot up successfully. Any idea please how can I use SD Card Copier installed on Raspbian to copy microsd card with…

Hi all i'm trying to boot my Orange Pi bord over the network. For this purpose i'm going to use SPI Flash memory to load bootloader (Uboot). I found a tool named nand-sata-install introduced by Igor. I have read all the script and i'm wondering how much capacity my SPI NAND flash should have. SunXi recommends 2MB (16Mbit) but my bootloader is about 5MB.

Hi guy's, trying to get my hdmi screen to work on some board (not really relevant but board is orangepi on and lcd is "7inch hdmi lcd (c), usb capacitive touch screen, 1024x600, rev 2.1" - the box it came in states brand is "waveshare") with armbian and I'm having issues. When I turn the board on I see everything properly, background is, as expected black, letters are white + some colors, it starts the booting process, looks for mmc controller, ethernet etc etc.. then it finds the kernel and start loading it and then - puf, the screen is gone... depending on what h3disp op…

I have a 5" 800x480 TFP401 display which the current armbian can't drive, and I have no idea how to fix that. My EDID is identical to his. I'm a total armbian noob and half linux noob and have no idea where to start or what all the used terms mean (u-boot, dpms, ...) or they come with random patches or links to github changesets that I have no idea what to begin with. All I know is how to compile Igor's kernel, change existing patches in his repo, and burn it (as image, not u-boot) to an SD card, all because there is a nice tutorial for it. When people start talking about anything else I have no idea what to do with that information. I tried to mod…

Hello everyone, first i want to say sorry if this post is not in the right place. I decided to post this in Armbian forum first, because I use it and it was awesome linux distribution with good community and support. I started as a hobby to write a software about controlling relays, to switch things in my home, like light, water heater, floor heater, etc. Hardware passes from PicoIP , thru wireless routers and finish on Orange PI, it offers a lot extras for it's price. What I have done so far: (all is in web interface, written from scratch) You can: switch on/off relays switch on/off relays for period of time schedule …

I'm looking to potentially set up a dedicated VPN server probably using an Olimex Olinuxino A20 Lime 2. The main thing I was somewhat confused about is how to connect to my router and how to ensure that traffic is routed through the VPN server? Presumably to connect to my router I would just use an Ethernet cable. But how then would I ensure that all traffic goes through the VPN? The vast majority of SBC that I have seen only have 1 Ethernet port so connecting devices physically is a no go. I assume I might need to use some form of port forwarding?

Hi Igor and everyone else. Id'like to suggest the following: /etc/fstab It´s not necesary to use both noatime and nodiratime, because noatime already implies nodiratime, so you can use only the option "noatime" instead of both. When creating the ext4 filesystem with mkfs.ext4 you can type a label for it with the parameter " -L " so when the users mount their cards on a computer, the desktop will show some name instead "NO NAME". For example: # mkfs.ext4 -O ^has_journal -L Armbian /dev/mmcblk0p1 or... # mkfs.ext4 -O ^has_journal -L Cubox-i /dev/mmcblk0p1 Cheers - Klez

I have a project where I would like to connect two project boards together with an Ethernet cable. No router, no hub, just two boards with a patch of cat5 between them. In order to make this work I need to get a Link-local IPv4 address on each (RFC 3927). I believe this is done with avahi, but I'm unsure if avahi is simply name resolution or if it performs the link-local address allocation as well. Anyway here's what I've tried: sudo apt-get install avahi-daemon avahi-discover libnss-mdns # sudo reboot -r now # systemctl script on reboot to log IP to file with `hostname -I` What I find is that when I'm hooked up to my router `hostname -I` reports wha…

If you don't like autologin in Armbian Ubuntu desktop, or if yo want to have several desktops to choose, here is how I did this. Tested on legacy image, but I belive that same setup should work on mainline too. 1. Install ubuntu desktop image on MMC (I did it using Etcher) 2. Install display manager. Because of simplicity, I choose LXDM. sudo apt-get install lxdm 3. Set default session and disable nodm Edit /etc/lxdm/lxdm.conf Find line: session=/usr/bin/startlxde Replace it with: session=/usr/bin/startxfce4 Fix for XFCE session entry from LXDM session menu: Open the /usr/share/xsessions/x…

Hello everyone I own some noname chinese Android stick, which has Allwinner A20 CPU. Unfortunately, long time ago seller cheated me and device has 512 MB ram instead of 1GB (4 gigabit chips..). It has some "Android" firmware (which shows 1GB), but I cannot find nor backup, neither upgrade firmware. Not a big deal, since device not in active use. I tried Armbian Cubeiboard2 and pcDuino3 builds - everything working like a charm, desktop starts, so I want to run sata-nand install for Armbian for legacy kernel - /dev/nand is here, and I can even dump a "backup" of NAND to have it "just in case". Some help is really appreciated (some questio…

When I power down H3-devices I see quite different results. Normally I use 'sudo poweroff' which should behave like 'shutdown -P'. I guess the command was successfull when the last message on the serial console reads "Power down." This works with Legacy Images. Power consumption drops significantly. On the NEO and OPi Zero to somewhat 150 mW, NEO Air 250 mW. To my surprise the Orange Pi One drops even to 0 mW. Question 1: Why is that? Is it different voltage regulators, or are parts of some boards purposefully kept powered on? Testing Mainline Images things are more simple: I never even reach the "power down"-target, the sys…

Dear all, I'm using Armbian_5.25_Pine64_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.10.104_desktop. The default display resolution of 720p60 is working fine. When I change to full hd with 1080p60 it's working fine. But when I change to 2160p30 in /boot/armbianEnv.txt it isn't working. Even the eth0 isn't working any more, i.e. the LEDs are not blinking and I couldn't connect to the system any more (additional to the fact that the monitor connected to hdmi is also dark). Has anybody been successful with pine64 and 4K with that image or another desktop image? Best regards, Willy P.S.: I also did the FastEthernet fix "ethtool -s e…

Anyone have success with GStreamer and Xenial Desktop? Once upon a time (mid 2015) gstreamer used to work like this: gst-launch-1.0 filesrc location=vid.mp4 ! qtdemux ! vaapidecode ! vaapisink Time has passed and the many parts that make up GStreamer (libva libcedrus vdpau-sunxi libvdpau gstreamer and gstreamer-vaapi) have evolved. I revisited this because I have recently stumbled upon an invocation that let's me play videos with hardware acceleration in gstreamer. I'm trying to stream h264 vid from my rpi-zero's camera to be saved/played/restreamed from my BPi ( i have both BananaPi and OrangePi+2e). This wor…

Hello everyone, I was used to use the cubox-i running on a hummingboard (2 years ago) and tried to install a pps source using pps-gpio module and the GPIO1 (pin 7) of the HummingBoard jumpers. Given that pps-gpio requires an entry in the device tree for pps, and I couldn't find/patch/recompile again sources (image was built by another person), I decompiled the imx6q-hummingvboard.dtb present in /boot, then modified it adding : pps { compatible = "pps-gpio"; gpios = <0x01 0x01 0x01>; }; and then I recompiled this source and copied into /boot. When I rebooted, the new /dev/pps1 was created and the pulses were rece…

Apparently I'm not good at this... What I want to do is to build a subnet of IoT devices in home/small-office environments. I'm not sure how I would implement this... Suppose: I have a classic wireless/modem/router at 192.168.1.1, windows / android devices already connected, fixed IP or DHCP. I want to build another subnet of IoT devices, say 192.168.200.x... At the center I have a Windows 7/8/10 PC with a single NIC, with two IP addresses, say 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.200.1 - this can reach all two subnets... The problem is the IoT devices (currently several OPi versions, Raspberry Pi's etc) which have fixed IP'…

When attempting to update to the dev kernel I ran ' apt-get install armbian-firmware sunxi-tools swconfig a10disp ' per the instructions. It is not finding the swconfig and a10disp packages with the standard repositories active (I have done apt-get update). If these are in an alternative location, perhaps add a line in the kernel update instructions (for various Orange Pi in my case) to add it. I see one older message referencing it being available on a beta site. The same command is present for the non-dev instructions. It also seems odd that a10disp is listed for these H3 based boards (but there is also no h3disp package). Are the instructions wrong/old…

Hi All, I am trying to run Toxcore tests on OrangPi Zero inorder to run a tox client on this board. So far I tried clone git repositories of libsodium and opus. I did make and make install for both of them .I did not find any issues in installing them. I built them on OrangePi itself. I did not pass any crosscompiler prefixes to ./configure command while building them.My doubt is ,are these libraries compiled with armgcc or normal gcc ? Hi! Yesterday I get my first build of a NanoPi port of pi4j (http://pi4j.com/) running. A simple test with a double color led on a NanoPi M1 works fine. Actually I am going to adapt the board specific code. Hence some questions are open. Is there a simple way to differ NanoPi Boards by SW (NanoPi M1, Neo and Air) to set the correct board? Memory size of the board The Raspberry code uses the revision string of /proc/cpuinfo to retrieve this informations. But this info is PI specific. Any idea how to get this info? Using C is not a problem - pi4j is a mix of Java and native libraries. Peter P.S: Java Example File - …

Hey all, I've been using Allwinner boards for the last couple of years and Armbian+forums have made this a workable thing that I promote to my friends as being The Way To Go instead of being a big fat waste of time. Igor + Tkaiser (and anyone else forgive me if I didn't give you a shout) - You fucking rock. You really do; you've all provided amazing amounts of support for multiple kernels and userspaces and in the face of (at least) bullshit from the chip vendors, yet you are absolutely crucial to them being taken seriously. The work from Armbian has (for me) made the difference between BananaPi, OrangePi, etc all being an unusable washout of #ShitDidn'tW…

Armbian 5.26 didn't work Armbian 5.25 didn't work I Downgraded all the way back to 5.23 (kernel 4.8.4) and everything works perfectly.

Hi all, I've been reading a lot about VPU acceleration for h264 decoding and encoding. However, it seems that there is not much regarding transcoding (decoding + encoding). I would be interested in decoding 1080p h264 and encoding it back to 720p h264 in realtime. Ideally having that operation on 2 streams in parallel would be great. I've seen that quite some work has been done in cedrus : https://linux-sunxi.org/Cedrus As I can, h264 decoding seems to be supported but encoding is unclear. And there is obviously no comment about running both operations at the same time. Since I would like to run a few tests and maybe help a …

About a year ago I reported the kswapd0 running out of control on OPi PC and Igor, after couple of tries made it behave. Today, I got OPi One loaded with the latest 5.26 Ubuntu D/T and the OPi PC2 with today's daily Ubuntu D/T and both demonstrated the following behaviour when pressed for memory: Specifically, running a "make -j2", when the available RAM got below 38000, the kswapd0 started getting more cpu time and eventually everything stopped waiting for disk I/O (80% wa displayed in "top"). Interestingly, not a single byte of swap storage was used. I tried different combinations of programs and everything worked fine until the demands on RAM got the available RAM …

Since I was looking up which boards would make a proper NAS and home automation hub, I figured I might as well summarize the options in a post. Requirements for a proper NAS: Gigabit Ethernet SATA that is not a crappy USB->SATA chip Armbian-supported That last one is because otherwise the options are much more numerous and scattered, and the previous requirements become vague (e.g., you could even just take out a netbook's motherboard and run it standalone). Also, you could use an A80 board (USB 3.0) but I believe none are supported by Armbian, same goes for R40 (has SATA), so this leaves us with these A20 boards that also have GbE: _______________________…

i've noticed swap is not being used on my armbian system (in this case, it is a Banana Pi R1). I tried to dig deeper and spent several hours looking into a cause and cannot find any way to resolve. Hello, I decided to monitor some temperature stuff at home and used few ds18b20 w1 sensors and they work, but due to some cable limitation and number of the sensors at same point they failed. I decided to test with 10 meters CAT5 FTP cable, changed pull up resistor to 4KO and 3 ds18b20 work at 10m cable on 3.3V, If I add one more they all fail. I switched volatage to 5V and all good, but I wondering is it possible to initialize w1 bus on another GPIO? After I google that and so some reading, people achieve that on raspberry but they patched the kernel somehow. Any idea how can that be done on armbian?

Hello. I have a question not directly related to Armbian, but to Linux in general. I just saw my problem fixed here and can't see how. I have most of my multimedia on samba share in my local home network. In Windows i am able to play videos from this share with directly loaded external subtitles (when available). But from Linux it's not that easy, when open share in file manager (double click). In some cases even video/music/pictures can't load from players with some incorrect path errors, but let's say this worked in most cases and focus on subtitles. For some reason when opening videos in Linux with file manager from samba share, only video loads, not the external subt…
