Hi there. I have some audio project on different SOM/SOC boards, now my task is to bring an i2s DAC on RK3399. I use external high-quality clock for i2s and need to make the Rockchip the masterclock slave. This is the case where I find no tail to pull yet, due to VERY cumbersome device tree, poorly documented and poorly explored. For instance, the CPU datasheet says that I2S_MCLK is output only, whilst I could find the opposite in the TRM. Moreover, the clock tree explained there, says that I can use CLKIN_I2S not only for i2s interfaces, but for spdif also! (Also there is explained some "bitclock slave mode", it's even implemented in the DAI driver,…

Hi, First of all i'm NOT a software developer and i have NO one skill on this kind of board's hardware... I've a good soldering skill, so just for fun i've bought a new RAM module for my OrangePi Zero Board... I've bought a K4B4G1646E-BYMA RAM module and then i've replace the onboard module... All of the work gone fine, the OrangePi Zero still boot and work perfectly, but i was hoping to upgrade the RAM on the board... After the boot, in the welcome screen the, the RAM amount is now 512MB (494MB) and before was 256MB... The RAM amount is now increased, but not like expected... I've choose the K4B4G1646E RAM module because, theoretically, it was a 4GB RAM m…

Good morning everyone. I'm unable to connect to a nanopi M1 through ssh, I'm using windows power shell and the network is made with a TP-Link router MR3220, I've looked several guides around there but always is saying "connection reset". I've also checked the IP address wich is allways the same because I used the address reservation feature of the router (of course, there is a fixed MAC address on eth0), when I apply the command ssh -p 22 root@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on the uxterm of armbian it shows the shown in the attached image "resulado de usar ssh" and like I said, the answer of power shell is connection reset on port 22 for that server. the ssh_co…

when I tried to install Armbian (Armbian_23.8.1_Lepotato_bookworm_current_6.1.50.img.xz) on my Le Potato, it asked me to enter the desired value of the TZ environment variable when I chose not to set the timezone automatically. however I am confused with what is a valid Posix timezone string. here are my attempts: Please enter the desired value of the TZ environment variable. For example, AEST-10 is abbreviated AEST and is 10 hours ahead (east) of Greenwich, with no daylight saving time. UTC 'UTC' is not a conforming Posix timezone string. Please enter the desired value of the TZ environment variable. For example, AEST-10 is abbreviated AEST and is 10 hours ahead (east…

Hello everyone I own some noname chinese Android stick, which has Allwinner A20 CPU. Unfortunately, long time ago seller cheated me and device has 512 MB ram instead of 1GB (4 gigabit chips..). It has some "Android" firmware (which shows 1GB), but I cannot find nor backup, neither upgrade firmware. Not a big deal, since device not in active use. I tried Armbian Cubeiboard2 and pcDuino3 builds - everything working like a charm, desktop starts, so I want to run sata-nand install for Armbian for legacy kernel - /dev/nand is here, and I can even dump a "backup" of NAND to have it "just in case". I don't have a fiber/fast internet connection, and I get around 200kb/s download speed when I use normal apt or apt-get. But apt-fast accelerates download speeds significantly. I go up to 1MB/s using it (I set max connections option to 16 while installing it, you'll know what I mean when you try to install it using apt-add-repository, of course, if you don't know). So I suggest you to use apt-fast in "armbian-config" or any system utility. This suggestion goes to the developers. So that we (users with no good internet connection) can update the system or install the desktop environment a lot faster and easier.

Ok, so I am bit of a linux noob. I understand the basics, and compiled my first image from source today, and hey it works! What I am trying to do is, build a image that has the packages that I need preinstalled. Packages that I need are(nfs-kernel-server, samba, speedtest-cli, openvpn, and a few other) I tend to muck up my installation quite frequently, as I play around with settings too much. What I had been doing is cloning the sd card with dd, but I am looking for a better more reliable way, that gives a fresh install each time. I didn't know whether I could edit the list of packages that are installed while compiling the image from source. Also, Tha…

I am building a kali linux for espreso bin. I used the initrd and kernel from Armbian and I already got it to boot without any problem. However during the boot process, when it is using the ramdisk this warning appears. Warning: fsck not present, so skipping root file system I Would like to be able to check root partition during the boot. How could I add fsck to the ramdisk? I also noticed that armbian buster for espressobin have the fsck present on the ramdisk. Hi. Finally have the time to get into this, and find the biggest problem i am having right now is conceptual. What is Softy? Why is it needed? Why is it better than installing from apt with a repository? How is its installed software managed, including updates? Also, I understand that there is no uninstall feature. In which case, how do manage system recovery? Say I install docker and omv and I've set up other bits and pieces like wifi and ssh, then I mistakenly install desktop. I want to uninstall desktop... It looks like I need to bust back down to a clean image and start again. Do wiser heads have a good strategy to handle …

Hi All, Does anybody have a solution to the issue with playing video in Armbian that the MPV on-screen controls (i.e. Pause, Stop and the Timeline) isn't visible in the bottom middle of the video frame? Is there any way to get this back? Does it require a re-compile of mpv, or is this behaviour a result of the All winner undocumented blob based hardware acceleration, dumping pixels straight onto the frame buffer, with little one can do about it. Has anybody compiled mpv from scratch and not had this issue? I notice that when playing video, the video paints over the top of everything - including the mouse pointer. Photo attached with red boxes to highlight…

Hi all i'm trying to boot my Orange Pi bord over the network. For this purpose i'm going to use SPI Flash memory to load bootloader (Uboot). I found a tool named nand-sata-install introduced by Igor. I have read all the script and i'm wondering how much capacity my SPI NAND flash should have. SunXi recommends 2MB (16Mbit) but my bootloader is about 5MB.

Hello! I`m very new on how SBC`s work, and wanna know if there`s some way to fix this situation: My audio is not actually being reproduced via the HDMI connection between my TV and my Orange Pi [Orange Pi 4 LTS]. I took a brief look at the solutions/instructions on the documentation page ((https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Fine-Tuning/#sound-output)), such as: # Check the available sound output options: pacmd list-sinks | less # The default will be marked with "*" # Press "q" to close # Define the new default sound output pacmd set-default-sink <NAME-OF-DESIRED-OPTION> but i only got this, and as far as i could test…

Hello everyone, Over the past year or so, I've been getting back to my utilite pro board that bought quite a while back. After asking a few things to Compulab, and figuring out some of the bad download links to get their latest resources, I could finally upgrade to their latest Ubuntu build, that was based on 12.04. So not so recent. I am not the most aware user when it comes to arm devices, but a page on the Debian wiki pointed out to running buster on the board. Then, I came across the armbian ecosystem, and thought, well, I'll give it a try. Kudos to the work done. This looks impressive. The past days I've been trying to co…

I've installed the latest Armbian Bookworm Cinnamon desktop image to the EMMC of the Banana Pi M5, but it does not display anything on the HDMI output after startup. Here's what happens when I start the system: - Starts loading the kernel (I can see the startup messages) - Shows the "Armbian" loading screen (with the spinning icon) - Switches back to the startup messages for a bit - Shows a black screen with a single "_" in the top left corner - After a few seconds my screen says that there is "No Signal" The Banana Pi still seems to be running, I can see the lights. Any idea what happens and how to fix it? …

If you are reading this you've probably discovered that there are a few things about the Orange Pi series of boards that can be frustrating. I know I have been.. I purchased an Orange Pi PC and two Orange Pi Ones anticipating Pi bliss at a fraction of the cost of the Raspberry equivalent. I tried, and tried hard, to load distro after distro of various linux flavors onto micro SD cards with many a blank screen or an aborted boot attempt.. Orange Pi site distros, laboris distros, Armbian distros.. nothing seemed to make a difference. Reading about power supply issues, ornery boot processes, and overscan issues I was really beginning to think this was m…

Hi there, I have too many SBCs running Armbian with very recent kernels (even two Raspberry Pi 3B), and I love the consistency of my herd. I will change job next month, and I will at last be able to have a Linux machine as my daily driver... The thing is, I will need Windows too for video editing so that I need to keep it available when needed. I was thinking of Manjaro or Linux Mint for the freshness of their kernels (as the laptop hardware is pretty recent), but I gave a try yesterday at Armbian on x86_64, and it went almost well. I did not go as well as @NicoD's attempt in his latest video, but it is encouraging anyhow. So... Is there anything like…

Hi basically i am switching from Raspberry pi to orangepi PC. Managed to find armbian which looks way better than raspberry gui! Now my problem is i used raspi-config to set login after POST in CLI in Rpi but in armbian we dont have this config thing and I want to make the system login at CLI then I could either continue to use CLI or go into gui mode by typing startx. Any ideas for this? I have tried systemctl enable multi-user.target but it seems nothing change and I also tried to find the directory of grub but there is none at armbian. Many thanks, Gabriel

Hi all! I make a board base on H3 CPU, I got a 8G EMMC under mmc2, and a ap6212a chip under mmc1. Greetings, I set up an an armbian build environment, and went through the initial build, which took some time. Subsequent rebuilds took a couple hours as well, and I discovered I could 'skip' rebuilding the kernel unless I wanted to build it. Now, I'm testing customize-image.sh, things aren't always going where I want. so, I troubleshoot, make changes, but now my minimum build time is 30-40 minutes. Is there something else I can do to speed up the process?

The GPIO pins on the Rock64 are very similar to the Raspberry Pi's GPIO, except the Raspberry pi calls pin #19 GPIO 10, pin #21 GPIO 9 and pin #23 GPIO 11. Where as the Rock64's pin #19 is GPIO3_A1, pin #21 GPIO_A2 and pin #23 GPIO3_A0. The Rock64 documentation does say that it is quasi-Raspberry Pi compatible, but it's hard to find anyone who has actually tested this. Here is the GPIO layout of the Rock64, compared to the Pi 3 I'm currently trying to figure out if a display such as THIS can be connected to the Rock64's GPIO pins without any major issues. User documentation for the display can be found HERE on page 2, in the PDF named …

Greetings everyone! I'm having some issues with my Armbian installation. I have an Orange Pi PC 2 (64 bit H5 SoC). I followed the procedure for installing Armbian on my Sd card (reliable one, recently bought as new) using Etcher (so errors won't occur). The SSH daemon works, nmap lists port 22 as open, yet whenever I try to ssh to root ("root@10.42.0.1", where 10.42.0.1 is the IP given by the shared wired network to this connection) even after I wait like 10 minutes or so, it doesn't work (Permission denied). Thing is I don't own a keyboard and a HDMI cable, or UART cable, so I went for this "headless" approach. I know it's possible, but SSH won't …

Does "orangepi3" also support Orange Pi 3 LTS? The board looks different from the Orange Pi 3 on the download page and has a different number of USB ports.

I’m using the Pine64 2GB Kickstarter’s board with the official LCD, running Armbian 5.25 Pine64 Debian (Jessie) 3.10.104 image. Everything works fine, display in terminal only and touch screen with the desktop. Now I would like to upgrade to the latest stable Armbian version (which on download page is 5.83). However now I can’t enable the LCD, although the download page says: It was a couple years back, I don’t remember exactly, but seems that was the same way I’ve used to enable the screen in old 5.25 Armbian. I’m no Linux kernel developer, but searching through the forum on the topic I found several mentions of “kernel recompile” - is there no other ways …

Because I have updated to Armbian 22.02 with the linux 5.15.25 kernel and I am using the rk3328-nanopi-r2-rev00 device tree, I thought I should share what I have discovered. 1/ I had trouble setting up a one-wire device (ds18b20 temperature sensor). I think the w1-gpio pin assigned in the supplied overlay is messing up access of the SD card. I found some helpful information from this post: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php ... #pid100639 I copied the overlay code, modified it to use GPIO2_A2 (pin 7 on the 26pin header), compiled it and copied the new dtbo file to "/boot/overlay-user/" . Added the "user_overlays=rockchip-w…

Glad to say creating virtual machine and getting Armbian build environment and running ./compile.sh was easy and successful for bananapim1plus / 6.1 kernel / jammy. Created SD card and booted and is running fine. Added DT overlay to enable spidev and got /dev/spidev0.0 as expected. Got new version of cross compiler to build code I formerly ran on fedora image and the SPI driver behaves differently. It pulses CS low for every transfer instead of optionally staying low for multiple transfers based on "cs_change" field in each transfer message. Found kernel source in build/cache/sources/linux-kernel-worktree/6.1__sunxi__armhf/drivers/spi, and tried editing there to begi…

Hello, I am trying to copy my system from emmc to sd so i can install my current system on another OP. First problem was that when I am booting from emmc, sd card doesn't show up (fdisk -l). So i gave up on doing it that way and now i am copying to usb flash drive as image so i can re burn to sd and use in second OP I believe the image is going to be the entire 7.3gb of the emmc. Is there an easy way to undo the fs_resize? EG sudo fs_resize -"back to minimal option here" I'm hoping that will make the image smaller. or maybe a dd option? thanks.

Hey guys, I'm trying to find a way to read the values of the LRADC0 and LRADC1 of the A20. Those ADC are usually used for android-style buttons (labeled "VOL+", "VOL-", "MENU", "SEARCH", "HOME", "ESC" and "ENTER") which are connected to a low-resolution ADC via a resistor network. But I want to use the ADC for another purpose and I just need to read values between 0 and 63. Now it seems there is already a driver which let you setup the android-style buttons in the DTS (as can be seen in this patch) But I can't find the code of this driver, which I could use as a template. Any idea how to find the driver ? Or…

Etcher understands zip, gzip, bzip2, and I don't know what all else. But it has no idea what a 7z file is. So I have link in proximity for two of the three binaries I need to get, and the third buried in grey on black text at the bottom of the page where nobody will see it and instead they will feel compelled to go out to find it on their own. Are 7z files really enough smaller than bz2 that it's worth this?

Hello, I have a 7 in lcd touchscreen that I would like to use with my 'le potato' board. I have begun using Armbian Le Potato Debian Stretch. I would like to get this working and would explore many options but when it breaks down i have: utilized putty to ssh into my 'le potato' with ethernet on my main router and typed in fbset to reveal... putty ssh screenshot I was curious about other possible options in Armbian like utilizing a config file or converting a .bin file to fex and changing the values. However, I have had no luck in utilizing an hdmi touchscreen besides maintaining usb power and flickering. Would anyone have a method of touchs…

Hi! Using mainline on custom A20 board with sch very close to lime2, with 2 differences: (- EMAC of lime instead of GMAC of lime2) - AP6210 wifi/bt module on MMC3 with same schematic as cubietruck. Only difference in AP6210 schematic is that : - we use PE1 for WIFI_Enable instead of PH9. - PE0 for wifi_host_wake instead of PH10. BT works OK. Wifi doesn't work. To test the wifi part, we used cubietruck DTS, only patching the parts about PH9 and PH10. BRCMFMAC load without any messages and iwconfig / ifcongif say there is no wireless card. "dmesg | grep brcmfmac" gives no results. nor "dmesg | gr…

Maybe this is a little off topic but I am researching and trying to find a PCB designer that can design a custom Allwinner board. Does anyone have any great leads for such a freelanser or firm? Any leads are appreciated. I love the platform and want to incorporate the system in a product I am working on but I realize that I will need to modify the board in order to fit my product. Cheers.

Hi guys, I am currently working on backing up my armbian installation. Following situation: boot: sd card file system: nfs root backing up the file system is not an issue, there I am using a rsync logic that transfers only changed files, which works great. The problem is with the boot files. In case of sd card failure I need an image that I can quickly restore to a new sd card, without the whole file system, as it is on nfs root and backed up differently. Now my question is: what is the best way to create an image file with only the boot logic? On Raspbian this is simple, as the boot device is a fat32 partition, but on …

Hello everyone. We have checked the forum extensively but have not found a good answer to our problem. Our system is based on a Orange Pi Zero Plus (512 MB), and it is running nicely. However, after some time, (10 - 15 days from the last boot) or /tmp directory gets full and most of the system is not operational. Only solution we have found for the moment is rebooting the system. This is the output of df -h in one of our systems which only shows 7% usage. This usage figure increases day by day. Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on udev 174M 0 174M 0% /dev tmpfs 49M 5…

I have an OrangePi +2E with the latest version of armbian. Yesterday, after a sudo apt-get upgrade, chromium upgraded to 87.0.4280.88 (Build) built on Debian 10.7. After that chromium has become useless: probably the slowest browser ever. In case you ask: I've removed all the extensions and uninstalled the browser and then installed again. nothing changed. The older version worked just "fine" (relative to what an orange pi can offer in terms of performance, of course) Is this the end of internet browsing on armbian?

Hello! This thread here: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/3728-varlog-varloghdd/ triggered the question in me how I could extend the log2ram. My problem is the following: I have installed syncthing. The default in armbian runs it as root - which is not recommended for syncthing, see here: https://forum.syncthing.net/t/running-syncthing-as-root/6316! So I downgraded the syncthing daemon to a standard user account "syncthing". In order to enable a non-root user to write logfiles it's common practice to create a subdir /var/log/syncthing/ and give it write rights for syncthing. This works, however my logfiles stay completely empty! Never…

Suddenly after updating via armbian-config I lost ssh access and found the port closed. I rewrote the latest armbian version, stuck the sd card in, connected to ethernet cable via router and started up. The red and green lights were on as they should be and the internet cable was flashing green. Waited 3 minutes and checked the ports with nmap. And the port is closed again. Not responding to ping at all. I am still new to this topic. Please help and sorry if the translator translates crookedly.

The I tried NFS shares and that worked fine to, but now I want to boot directly from another server, providing different folders for each board that I have and use spi for the boot. The reading the forum again to find out more about NFS booting, and mostly found this "hurray I got it to work" then kind of leaving the rest of us hanging there thinking HOW??? Is anyone else running their build environment in a VM? Specifically hosted by QEMU? I'm running into some strange things, and wondering if anyone has seen it. I'm running an Ubuntu (20.04) in a VM using QEMU as the hypervisor. Basically, the build generally works fine. Hello, Like it happened to @Grogorio in 2016, I need to introduce a boot delay on my OrangePi Zero Plus (Armbian 23.02.2 Focal) to allow time for other network elements in my setup to boot. As per what I have read somewhere, this can done by adding a 'boot_delay=n' line in /boot/config.txt, however I don't see this file in Armbian; I've also tried to add the line, but it does not seems to be working. Furthermore, the max delay that can be setup there is 10 seconds, but I need a longer delay. Can someone help? TIA

Hello, I am running a Cubietruck with Armbian 21.08 Buster. I wonder if this can be upgraded to 22.02. The usual apt update apt upgrade apt dist-upgrade does not install any new packages. However I see e.g. the deb files for the kernel are existing in http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt/pool/main/l/linux-5.15.25-sunxi/ and also http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt/dists/buster/main/binary-armhf/Packages contains the new packages. The kernel is NOT set to freeze in armbian-config. Also that tool does not offer the new 20.02 packages. I seem to overlook something here. What prevents the installation (my apt skill are obviously limited...). …

I've heard people say that the Orange Pi is a "budget alternative" to the Raspberry Pi. On one hand, the Raspberry Pi has an excellent community, with a large user base that could really help you in your learning journey. On the other hand, the Orange Pi offers great value for money, and it's really tempting because the Raspberry Pi can be a bit pricey. What's your suggestion?

I just released Armbian Focal Desktop MAINLINE images for Khadas VIM3 Pro. These are individually, pure arm64 and hybrid arm64/armhf variations. Thanks go to @lanefu for key pointers in understanding how to "re-arm" the firstboot and firstboot-config mechanism in current-state Armbian. Please offer feedback and experiences if you test these. The images are currently hand-built, but if enough interest is generated, and time permitting, I will commit to a git fork for an unsupported standard building process. I have more detail on the distribution site at archive.org, and in the corresponding posts to the Khadas forums: …

What do I need for building for my SBC(BPI-M2-Berry) ? I want to use my SBC as a LTE-Router/ Mesh-Repeater and want to pre-install some necessary packages, the device need. I want to build a Dashboard for Administrate the Device. Maybe I'll use electron + reactjs, or would it be better to use php for it? Greetz BlackLeakz

Hi Guys: I have been trying to write a custom overlay to use gpio-poweroff. I'm using ARMBIAN 5.37.180106 nightly Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.14.11-sunxi. Attached is the gpio-poweroff.dts file that i wrote and even as it compiles with sudo armbian-add-overlay gpio-poweroff.dts and it is added to the last line on armbianEnv.txt like user_overlays=gpio-poweroff, it doesn't work. On boot, it shows: Applying user provided DT overlay gpio-poweroff.dtbo failed on fdt_overlay_apply() FDT_ERR_NOTFOUND Error applying DT overlays, restoring original DT All the other other overlays ilke i2c0, uart3 works perfeclty. Hello Everybody: I'm having problems to create and save a new partition to eMMC on BPI M2Ultra board. As you can see on the attachd image below, the fdisk -l command, list the mmcblk1 with the right size (7.3 GB), them, i start creating a new partition (n command) and writing the partition table (w command), but once created the new partition never gets to the disk, and a new fdisk -l command shows the disk like it was before. Of course, whithout a partition i can not format the eMMC and can not use nand-sata-install. This doesn't happen with bananapi original images as there was no issue to create the partition and save it to the disk …

Hello, I've fairly new to ArmBian and as I'm trying to setup a cluster of Rock64's, I'm wondering if there's any support for using cloud-init (user-data) to be able to setup a board on boot? Thanks!
