Hi, I want to use a mcp2515 can controller over spi1 or 2. I read about internal flash is blocking the spi1. Can I use another Chipselect pin to use the spi1 with GPIO? Can you please give some advice where to start my research about overlays? What else do I need to activate? (core moduls, driver…)

Hello! Recently i bought an Orange Pi 4 LTS. I choosen armbian for my os. I installed it to sd card, but I wanted more. I decided to flash the system to eMMc. It was a mistake. Instead armbian-config tool, i executed armbian-install, and flashed bootloader to eMMc 🤦♂️. After that, i was checking the sd card, reading the logs, nothing helped. I have official 5v 4a dc adapter, factory new sd card, but my board only shines with a red LED, and does not boot into the system.

I'm trying to get OctoPrint to work on my Pine64 to control my Qidi i-mate(s) 3d printer. I've done a fresh install of Armbian on the Pine64 with no problems. I'm not sure where to go to troubleshoot the USB-ttl serial connection. I've double checked that the cable is installed right on the Qidi motherboard, this application doesn't need the vcc connected so the other three are. I've tried enabling the UART's in the armbian-config with no luck on the connection. While I've used Linux for quite some time, I'm not familiar with this sort of thing and I'm not even sure where to start the troublshooting. I can easily provide additional logs. This is on an …

Hey there fellow Pi enthusiasts! I am absolutely thrilled to have just gotten my hands on the Orange Pi 5, but being new to the world of Pi's and small chips, I was a bit intimidated. However, after exploring this forum, I must say that I am impressed with the amazing work you all have done with the software! I recently stumbled upon the Armbian 23.02 Jammy Gnome and decided to give it a shot. After successfully installing it to my SSD, updating and upgrading it, and enabling 3D acceleration with the commands provided, I thought I was good to go. But something still seems off to me - the graphics just don't seem to be as fast as I thought they woul…

I'm using the newest Ubuntu image for my RockPi4C+, and from time to time, I try to login, but it wont allow it. If I reboot, I can login just fine. I tried from 2 devices, both devices could not ssh into the pi. running a cat on /var/log/auth.log doesnt show any attempts at all. After a reboot, I cat the log and can see my login attempts present after the reboot. Its like the sshd service is dying. Hello, i tried to set up a little samba server with armbian on a odroid c2. If i use only the sd card, without any external storage, the system works fine, but if i connect any usb storage to the odroid c2, the system is booting into a bootloop or stops booting If i connect the usb storage after the first bios display, the system boot is fine. I think, the bootloader is trying to boot from the usp storage after detecting this, so is there an option to modify the bootloader, so it is only trying to boot from the pluged in sd card?

Hi, I've installed Armbian 23.02 Jammy Gnome from https://www.armbian.com/orangepi-5/ on my new Orange Pi 5. Unfortunately, it looks ugly compared to Ubuntu on my x86_64 PC. The main problem is the irregular use of occasional single-colour icons - for example the trash-can in the dock. Is it possible to make Armbian 23.02 Jammy Gnome not use these single-colour icons, and use Ubuntu icons throughout?

EDIT: I tried to plug it directly in router and speed is OK now. Weird, but it's fine now. Please close this topic. Hello, I just bought Orange Pi 3 LTS to set it up as small off-site backup using OMV and USB HDD. I installed Armbian_23.02.2_Orangepi3-lts_bullseye_current_5.15.93.img on eMMC and installed OMV using armbian-config. I noticed SMB and FTP speeds are slow (around 90 Mbps) so I installed iperf to test it properly and speed is capped on 94 Mbps. I have gigabit switch and interface is connected with GE, if I plug the cable to other device, it works just fine. So there must be some issue on Orange Pi 3 LTS. I searched the internet and speed shoul…

On my Banana Pi M5 Armbian Jammy has a strange device name assignment. BPi-M5 has internal 16GB eMMC normally named mmcblk0 and microSD named mmcblk1. Normally it boots from SD and if you install an OS like Raspberry OS for BPi into eMMC, you're still able to boot from SD another OS because RaspiOS maps device correctly. But when Armbian (i.e. Jammy) is installed into eMMC it changes eMMC device to mmcblk1 and SD to mmcblk0, and It prevents SD to boot. And if the eMMC OS corrupts and doesn't boot the SBC bricks and TTL connection is needed to erase boot record. To change OS it's necessary a command to delete boot record and SD on mmbl…

Hello, I'm trying to enable I2C access in U-Boot, for orange PI zero. I've downloaded the Armbian build, and tried to compile with CREATE_PATCHES, exactly like the tutorial here: https://zuckerbude.org/armbian-using-create-patches/ However, the build never stops and waits for me to make changes. I've attached the build log. I *think* I just need to add the following lines to orangepi_zero_defconfig: CONFIG_I2C0_ENABLE=y CONFIG_I2C1_ENABLE=y I guess that would be my next question- is this the proper way to change this config is via CREATE_PATCHES? I tried just changing the defconfig file and re-running c…

Hi. This video (Raspberry Pi 4 RAM Upgrade - Tutorial) is about upgrading Pi RAM from 1GB to 8GB, and it is inspired me to investigate possibility to do this for other boards. If anyone has any ideas and knowledge, please share it with us. I personally interested in NanoPi NEO4 with RK3399 CPU and with 1GB RAM Schematic for looking at RAM and board wiring. RAM consist of 2 512Mb chips on one channel (second channel on this board is not used) RAM Chips: K4B4G1646E-BCMA 4Gbit(4096bit/8=512Mb) DDR3-1866 96Ball FBGA. CPU supports DDR3, DDR3L, LPDDR3, LPDDR4. There are at least 1GB DDR3 chips out there. (not sure about 2GB, and probably no 4GB) …

I am using the Rockpi 4c plus for the first time. Hello, I'm looking to replace my x86 micro tower with a SBC, to mainly use it as a NAS and media player. On the hardware side, I would like to have a native SATA port (for the NAS hard disk), HDMI output and H.265 decoding (media player), at least 4GB of RAM (to be somewhat future-proof). Bluetooth is a plus to play some retro games Not sure about the OS storage: SD card, eMMC, an hard disk on another SATA port? At the moment I found two boards: the Radxa Rock 3A (with its DIY SATA over USB cable) and Odroid HC4. Both are supported by Armbian, but maybe there is a more recent board that I didn't find? Thanks.

I installed Armbian 23.02.2 aarch64 running kernel 6.1.11-meson64 on Le Potato and the system is running great with xfce4 as the desktop. Once I shutdown or restart, upon restart to the desktop the monitor is clear from the left side to the middle of the screen but the last 1/3 of the screen on the right is slightly fuzzy like the its out of focus. There was no problem of this upon install and first boot of xfce4. I have tried running Armbian Buster image and it works just fine everytime with no issue the entire screen is crisp and clear. For some reason when I installed bullseye it only works once after initial install and setup and then on is fuzzy on the right 1/3 …

I am creating a script that can backup sd-cards running on the system, resizing it with desired value or via resize2fs calculated. I learn a lot but there are a few things I don't fully understand. When I create a backup I dd what I understand is the bootsector, ie I grab the "start" position of the partition I am backing up with fidisk and use that value and a blocksize of 512. I then add another 10mb (in bytes) just to be sure. Usually the bootsector is 8192 big, but not always (IIRC nanopi neo3;s is WAY bigger). dd bs=512 count=$DDBOOTSECTOR if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=$IMG_FILE conv=noerror, sync status=progress I then truncate the file, calculated eithe…

Hi all, In armbian-config I have freeze on firmware. I can see that armbian-firmware-full is kept back. Still my kernel got updated. Kind of an issue as I use zfs (backports) on my omv install and I need to reinstall them to get the module recreated... Now I have a few questions: Is it because I have only armbian-firmware-full held back, and apt works in my case maybe with armbian-firmware? (Or do I misinterpret the list that says upgradable on the full) Or do I have to hold the specific versioned packages and will the armbian-firmware (meta?) package hold not work on the ones I have installed and get upgraded nonetheless? This week I installed Armbian on three BananaPi M5s. The OS ran fine from SD card, but once installed to emmc (using armbian-config) the system booted with a message that the file space available was zero. In the case of one of the boards I found an 8GB .img file in /media/my userid/. I assumed it was a copy of the 8GB SD card, and I deleted it. The system is fine now. But in the case of the other two I have yet to determine what is consumbing all the file space. There are two empty directoris in /media (mmcboot and mmcroot). Any idea what is causing this and more importantly how to fix the two existing systems? Thanks, Paul

Does anyone know of an ARM-based single board computer that stores its boot firmware in SPI flash and has write protection mechanisms (e.g., screws, pins, jumpers, etc.) for said SPI flash? The ROCK 3A has something like it, but I don't think the mechanism uses an SPI flash chip's intended WP control pin.

Hey guys, I am pretty new to this. I am working on turning my Le Potato into a TV shuffler. I have decided to go with Armbian, since I can't SSH (which is required for the CoreElec method), because I use college internet, and it just isn't configured properly. I am currently trying to get a script going that will open a folder and begin randomly playing videos from within, but I cannot figure out where to start really. I think I need to import mpv into the script somehow, but I honestly cannot find any resources on how to do this. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hello everyone! I recently heard about running x86_64 programs on ARM using box64, and decided to give it a try. I get the impression that most people are just using it for games but I would like to use it to run Quartus (a program to work with Intel FPGAs). The issue I see is getting the USB drivers to work. Quartus includes drivers for several programming cables (I am only interested in the USB blaster cable), and as far as I know there are no drives available that run on ARM. Is there any hope at all of getting the x86 drivers to work on ARM? Thanks in advance.

I have recently managed to get SPI boot to USB SSD working on my Odroid N2+. However, to get there, I had to manually set setenv rootdev "/dev/sda1" in my /boot/boot.cmd With that set, SPI boot works. However, obviously I should not set it manually there, and the setting gets overwritten by armbian-config. My understanding is, that I should let boot.cmd unchanged (rootdev "/dev/mmcblk0p1") and armbianEnv.txt should do its magic, but the rootdev setting in armbianEnv.txt is simply ignored upon SPI boot and it fails to boot, as it tries to load the root fs from SD card... I checked out commit c1cfd6059bac4ced7f4901e19acc017d1e92d8ba on repo https://github.com/armbian/build.git and launched the following command : compile.sh docker USE_MAINLINE_GOOGLE_MIRROR=yes BOARD=orangepizero BRANCH=current BUILD_KSRC=no RELEASE=bullseye BUILD_DESKTO P=no BUILD_MINIMAL=yes KERNEL_ONLY=no KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no ROOTFS_TYPE=ext4 BOOTFS_TYPE=fat COMPRESS_OUTPUTIMAGE=sha,img I always get the 'htop' error: E: Failed to fetch http://armbian.systemonachip.net/apt/pool/bullseye-utils/h/htop/htop_3.1.0-0~armbian20.08.2+1_armhf.deb 404 Not Found [IP: …

What is the recommended way to back up a user's *.img? I ask b/c I crashed the OS (Debian 11 Xfce) after a number of hours by upgrading via Synaptic -- don't know which of the upgrade group did the damage. It was a major pain to go back through everything I had done. I tried the very nice script "image-backup" from the image-utils developed by user RonR on the RPi Forum, but it complains about the wrong Partition config. Is there a method that is known to work? TIA

Hello, I'm turning my head around this problem, I have read numerous forum posts and docs but I didn't found an answer: Following https://linux-sunxi.org/GPIO, the same pin number calculation applies for sysfs and gpiod. But, for example, for PL2 it will be 11*32+2=354, or for opi3 lts there are only 255 line numbers for gpiochip1 (as per `gpioinfo gpiochip1`) :-S Pleeease tell me what am I missing !?!

Hello, I flashed the Armbian_22.11.1_Pinebook-pro_jammy_edge_6.0.10_gnome_desktop.img file on the 64GB eMMC card of my Pinebook Pro (PBP) laptop but although the eMMC recognizes the image (the ARM logo appears on the screen for a few seconds), booting stalls at (initramfs). I proceeded as follows: 1) First copied the image file from my PC on a 64GB SD card which I inserted into PBP, booted it from the SD card and installed Armbian-Ubuntu without any problem. 2) Downloaded the Armbian*.xz file a second time - this time from the SD card installation -, uncompressed it and flashed it to the eMMC with a USB-to-eMMC adapter after having formatt…

https://armbian.lv.auroradev.org/apt/pool/bullseye-utils/h/htop/ Nothing there. Just running basic ... apt-get update && apt-get upgrade ... upon initial install, and it fails with "failed to fetch" (404) from whatever apt.armbian.com mirror it selects (of 2 or 3 observed). Held it back with apt-mark, removed it, and built from source using deb-src. Doesn't seem to be any problems or issues running htop built from deb-src, so, not sure why its needed in the Armbian source repositories ???

I was trying to install armbian on an ssd on my orange pi5, and when I ran the armbian-config program I saw that the firmware was frozen. I chose to unfreeze it, but I think should not have done that. Can I reinstall the frozen firmware packages and then hold those packages again? If so, how? Thanks.

Hello, I am trying to make a acces point so when the orange pi has no internet i can still connect to the acces point and acces a python server that is running in a docker container on it. I managed to set-up the “hotspot” in the configuration, but once I take out the ethernet cable I cant view the site anymore from my phone that is connected to the orange pi hotspot. What can I do to make this work? https://imgur.com/a/5lecbHX

First off this is not a Rockpro64 it is a Rock64 Ver. 2 which the tags field would not let me enter. A couple years ago when I first started playing with the Rock64, I briefly used armbian as the OS. The flickering video was annoying so later I tried Manjaro which worked fairly well. Recently the (Manjaro/Arch) updates (as well as latest images) completely break the HDMI output. Since the system was rendered usless, I downloaded the latest Armbian Jammy hoping for better results. The image loaded from SD fine, I did updates manually fine, and it rebooted fine. The only problem I experience is that that anoying HDMI video flicker. It's worse when there is any s…

Hello, starting at Level 0 here. guess I'm just looking for a point in the right direction. want to learn how to install updates. Hi. Armbian 21.02.1 / 5.15.74-sunxi (22.08.6 SMP) / Debian 11.5 is working flawlessly on my cubietruck for several days, and then just hangs. I've studied the armbian-hardware-monitor.log, systemlog, run a 2-minute periodic cron to watch the temperature, and even added a serial comsole in an attempt to find out what might be the cause. I have not seen any weird indications in these logs. Temperature stays between 37 and 45 degrees. When the system hangs, there are no error messages on the consoles or via the serial comm. Pings are unresponded then, and magic sysrq won't work then. Armbian is run on a sata harddisk, there are some harddisks attached via an USB hub too but …

If I understand the custom-image script is run as a chroot after the image is built. So didn't see anything specifically in the docs but can I ONLY run (from compile script) the custom image script on an already already built image (in /output/images)? Along the same lines can I chroot at any time to the image via the compile script? I should mention that I am using the docker container build for arm on my amd machine. (i.e. ./compile.sh docker.... )

I wanted to build the cli version but didn't see an obvious way to do that with conf variables and the docs don't illuminate that choice. so I tried BUILD_MINIMAL=no BUILD_DESKTOP=no and that seems to do force the cli version. Just suggesting that this might be easier to grok if the variable was say BUILD_TYPE=(desktop|cli|minimal|custom) with maybe default cli where custom might be a rootfs that is custom (like one I put together) and thus doesn't need to be reconstructed from the custom-image script. Maybe setting custom then RELEASE could hold the path to the tarball? If that seems better mayb…

Hi I want to modify base armbian image using choot in order to install necessary software. I am also creating user during that process. My question is how can I skip or prefill the form that appears on first run? (user creation, time zone setting etc.) I was surfing the forum and found this answer. So, I came up with few options: 1) It looks like I can prefill my desired values for the form in "/usr/lib/armbian/armbian_firstlogin" file by editing it during chroot 2) I can remove user input parts in "/usr/lib/armbian/armbian_firstlogin", but preserve other important lines, since user will be created during chroot Is this valid options or there …

armbian-config has a way to update the kernel within a major version but can one upgrade from 5.15 to 6.1 (current/edge). I assume if not then I have to build my own image? What I am after is jammy or bullseye with 6.1 kernel to support some hardware not supported in 5.15. I know the rolling releases (Lunar/Sid) have this kernel but I need a LTS release with 6.1.

I am going to have to type a lot of words which I have no idea what they mean.... but here goes. I have bought an Orange Pi 4 LTS and the official touchscreen which goes with it. This connects via a flat ribbon cable into what is called port LCD1. I believe it is MIPI - although have no idea what that means. The screen works perfectly, but is in portrait. I can rotate the screen to landscape with randr or in the gui, but the touch doesn't rotate with it. I tried using xinput (which wasn't installed) and xinput calibrate as well, but neither did anything. I believe that the screen was installed by adding a line in a file cal…

Hi, I have a few Orange Pi PC Plus using Armbian bulldog and have two questions / issues. its my 1st post and not sure where best to ask 1. I have a python program that starts on a service, this can take around 25 seconds to start, I would like sub 20, less than 15 would be fantastic but not sure what service's to remove. reading a few posts here, I have an svg log but unable to see how i can attach?. It boots from eMMC. The program uses USB, I2C and internal UART and wi-fi 2. on a few OPi the wifi will not work. if I type in "sudo iwlist wlan0 scan" it returns " no scan results" if I reboot, it finds this. Hi everyone! I'm software developer but have no (or little) clue about electronics & electricity, and would like to dive into the SBC world. I still don't have a goal other than have fun and support this community during my free time. I probably need to buy some devices (my budget is limited): A voltmeter A soldering station. Which filler material is more appopriate? An USB-to-TTL adapter to debug the serial output. Specs? Last but not least: an SBC! Which one is good but currently lacks support from this community? Something else? Thank you for your advices!

I am currently attempting to compile a device tree overlay, in connection with an OPi Zero 2. Anything involved with screen blanking /MUST/ be removed or disabled, on the bpim5, and it exists in so many places it took me 2 days of poking around to stop the no recovery except reboot if un-used for more than 15 minutes regardless of what it happens to be running at the time. When a blanker kicks in, the monitor powers down and the bpim5 goes inactive with only the red pwr led on steady, and nothing wakes it up except the reset button. These things use so little power that it doesn't bither me a bot to leave them running.
