I have orange pi one zero. I buy extended Nas card for orange pi zero. After install extended board, i can't logging in system. Root or user password not accept system) Try logging with UART and SSH. Try copy new password in shadow on my PC. But system not accept any password. Maybe system himself change password after changing system or some problem with bash? p.s. I have Bpi M2p too and last month was the same situation. But console not accepted any login and after enter "root"....again asked to enter login. I rewrite new Armbian and return to work.

I been running my own images with great success thanks to rock solid build environment but one thing that catches me by surprise every now and then is that updating the system can also overwrite my custom kernel, which is is far from ideal. Up until now I been issuing an apt hold command for the packages but I was thinking maybe there is a better way. Because even with the hold in place if I don't pay close attention and do an apt dist-upgrade for example they will still be replaced despite the hold. Is there a better way to prevent my kernels from being updated by the stock kernel? Cheers!

Hi guys, I am using bluetooth (AP6212) and it works pretty well. After several hour of open connection I lost signal and need to reconnect. But I can't. Bluetoothctl returns "No default controller available", however one minute before it worked I tried to restart bluetooth service, rfkill (soft and hardware does not lock anything) , but the problem still exist. Only reboot can back the module to work. Is there any other way to restart the module without reboot?

I had a untested touchscreen device lying in its box , presenting itself as: Bus 006 Device 002: ID 0eef:0001 D-WAV Scientific Co., Ltd eGalax TouchScreen The driver provided on their site (https://www.eeti.com/drivers_Linux.html) complains that the controller is non-HID and reverts back the installation. I tried it manually with no success. I'm using an OPi PC Plus to build a Home Assistant machine. Does anyone have pointers for this for Armbian? Something like https://lennarkivistik.com/cat/misc/hacu/13 (this one is for RPi)

Hi, Got a bit of a strange situation here. Trying to get H3 I2S working in both playback and capture. Tweaked script.bin and got the I2S0 up and running. Playback in 96K and 192K tested and is ok. Capture though is giving me a headache. When I try to use arecord it does work and generates a wav file but upon playing the file with aplay and although the samplerate (96K or 192K) and channel numbers (Stereo) show ok on screen, the audio result from this recording is always mono and looks that the included samples numer is divided by 2 thus the playback time is shortened accordingly, eg if I record 10 sec, a 5 sec playing time happens. Verified the…

Hi, For the longest time, I've had this issue, but it never really bothered me much. All git updates can be done through git:// and the source lists that I require are still on HTTPS. How to compile DKMS on the board? I am trying this for the past week without success and starting to go crazy... The last kernel which worked is 6.11.2. I tried with zfs-dkms (from apt's repositories and from manually build .deb from zfs git) and with aic8800 drivers. I've tried Bookworm image, tried Noble. Tried -current and -edge kernels. Tried many kernel revisions. Tried to build kernels (image & headers) with compile.sh with docker, without docker. Updated my x86 Debian to Trixie. After some frustration with poor support for Banana Pi M2 Zero board by the manufacturer and not a very active community on Banana Pi forums, I stumbled upon Armbian and found out there's a CSC for building Armbian for this board. And because I'm having issues with wifi on the images found on Banana forums, with all images being old and based on kernel 3.4 -- wifi disconnects with some weird firmware errors in dmesg after about 3 minutes of running, requiring reboot to get back up again -- I was happy to read Armbian runs fine on BPI-M2Z for some folks here. So I did the build process, twice, so that I have two images to test, one with kernel 4.19 and one with 5.1, b…

Hi I am building armbian image for Nanopi Neo. I need to include SWUpdate package in my armbian build. The already built SWUpdate package does not work for me, because I need to disable CONFIG_SIGNED_IMAGES. As far as I understand, I need to rebuild SWUpdate inside the armbian build system. Can you please help me to understand where I should write commands to build SWUpdate from source (git repo), so that armbian build system will put the built binary and libraries into the resulting image?

Hey all, New to Armbian, installed to an Orange Pi 5. Installed XRDP - works fine in root (desktop shows) but if I try to do it as a user I just get a black screen with cursor. From searching I can see posts about already being logged in as a user already, and therefore black for privacy but I've not logged in as the user prior? Cant find anything really conclusive explaining how to resolve this Also even in root if I get logged out of desktop (RDP session still active, i.e. desktop lock screen) my root password doesn't work. Password is clearly not wrong

I'm using Banana Pi M2 Zero with Armbian Debian GNU/Linux 10 (Buster). Compiled the image myself with the latest source code using the armbin/build repository. I want to be able to do serial communication on pins 8 and 10. I'm looking for something to appear at /dev/ttyAMA0, so I can communicate with it. I saw some other forum posts which mentioned it'll happen on /dev/ttyS0 , however even that is not happening. Hi all. After installation of transmission-daemon I got two issues. First one is "UDP Failed to set receive/send buffer". I did fix it by adding next two lines to /etc/sysctl.conf net.core.rmem_max = 16777216 net.core.wmem_max = 4194304 Second one is that RPC does not start on boot but only after manual restart of service after boot. I believe it's caused because transmission starts before network goes online. I tried to fix it by adding into /lib/systemd/system/transmission-daemon.service [unit] ... Wants=network-online.target After=network-online.target But it does not help. I did fix it by adding next two lines to /etc/rc.l…

I am digging in my orangipi board (OPi Zero H2+) again, and have come across some questions relating to device tree overlay. Eventually, aim is to activate a hardware component of my board, and I think I have the right option found. Problems are currently with compiling and applying the overlay. From the basics upwards: 1. Is there a way to know which overlay (of the many listed in /boot/dtb/*) is actually used during boot process? For example, I know I have a board with a H2+ soc, but my armbianEnv.txt says "overlay_prefix=sun8i-h3". This may not be an 'armbian' thing at all, but if not, maybe I'll get a little direction. My first "image" with armbian I downloaded had some 3.4.x kernel on it. After some learning, I was able to get GPIO to work with it. I had some other limitations though. So, I decided to build my own image (buster) so I could customize it. After booting, I GPIO did not work. I explored this, but was unable to to get it to work. I tried a -legacy version (which was 4.x) but also, GPIO did not work. This is my first sunxi experience. So, I'm not sure of the tricks used to get it to work. Either it's broken, or there are patches/config for the kernel …

Hi, I would like to get a Debian Jessie version without systemd. I already tried to reconfigure an armbian image to remove systemd (There are several topics about this like this one or this discussion). This worked for me except for one important thing: initramfs. When I tried to configure and run my system using initramfs, I get always an error and system stop booting. I would like to know if it is possible to configure the build-tool (compile.sh) to directly create a Jessie image without systemd and with sysvinit. I tried armbian-config to change the version of the kernel down to 6.6 from 6.12.18 but somehow it just repeatedly tried to build dkms modules for 6.12.18 again and again so I just gave up using armbian-config. I eventually replaced the linux kernel and headers with the older version 24.8.2 ( sudo apt install linux-image-current-meson64=24.8.2 linux-headers-current-meson64=24.8.2 linux-dtb-current-meson64=24.8.2 ) After these downgrades ZFS st…

So, looking to create a CLI version of armbian-install. Only has to work with the rockpi-s and from the SD card to the eMMC. Looking at this script: If it works to clone the SD to eMMC (with some changes?) then I need to tell armbian to boot from the eMMC when the SD card isn't inserted, same way that armbian-install does. Do I simply change the UUID line in /boot/armbianEnv.txt to the UUID of the eMMC, or do I need to edit /etc/fstab or ??

I saw references on the site to a countdown in days to a major new release, but that has now disappeared, and I also see various mentions of version 5.34 but I do not know where to obtain this. The highest release in github seems to be 5.24. How does one find this? Apologies if this appears to be a stupid question - I looked everywhere.

Is there some shell script file inside /boot directory that gets called on system startup? Alternatively, is there any way to make such a script run by modifying only files inside /boot (like some config setting)?

Hi, I am trying to get an armhf mainline image for rk3399 and another one for other amlogic socs (s9xx) to test panfrost and lima properly. Many propietary binaries/libs are armhf, also many dynarec are armhf only alongside box86 emulator. Ive tried several attempts with no success to boot. Chroots have been useful for now.. but aren't that friendly, also, multiarch its not that great on arm, mesa 32 and 64 goes in conflict all the time. ive read an old post about this topic. Essentially it said you need to create an image for a 32 bit board and replace the uboot and kernel, also, set the proper dtb.. ive tried several times, also edited other stuff on …

Hey there since i got a Bananapi-R1 recently ive started to notice that there are no up to Date Images out there. Official support is over since 2016 and none of the Images later than Ubuntu 16.04 i found started booting or even have a working Download Link! So i had to figure out how i could get a later Version installed on my Board by myself! I have compiled a Bullseye Image that works fine, the only things ive noticed are missing OTG and WirringPi Support! Maybe someone knows a way how to get it working?? As i wrote before i couldnt find any recent Images out there, so i compiled some with this well documented Compiler by Armbian. SSH…

Hi, Can I use this guide to run armbian on a SSD on a tinkerboard and then install Homeassistant? Until now I run hass.io. I'm trying to run it on an SSD to prevent SD card corruption again. Since HA will run on a docker, could I just run docker from SSD and keep armbian on sdcard? Which option would you think is better? Thank you

I wonder what the best desktop replacement might be. I'm in need for a stable and secure desktop replacement that is energy saving and capable of dooing office work, browsing the web and even playback videos from youtube and prime video. 4K isn't necessary but I want at least 720p or 1080 fullscreen. If possible: No internal spi / eeprom / flash memory. I want the firmware to be loaded from a USB Storage / SD Card that gets hardware write protected after the first setup. Like a live distro from dvd so that there is no risk of getting infected by rootkit / bad firmware ever. Most current gen SoC offer built in flash memory. Older ones like Rock64, Pi3 and …

Hi, is there some specific reason why there is a kernel linux-source-5.8.16-sunxi as part of packages repository, but headers for such a version are missing? I saw similar post https://forum.armbian.com/topic/8347-install-linux-headers/ without any solution, but if there is a kernel package why the headers are missing? I assume headers were used during the build process... thanks

I’ve done some searching, but haven’t found a clear answer. i have a rockpi-s with a built in eMMC that has a bootable armbian image. When i insert a micro-SD card into the RP, and the card has a bootable image, it happily boots off of the card. Remove the card, and it boots off the eMMC. Perfect. Now, how do I duplicate this same functionality with a usb key? no key or sd = boot from eMMC SD inserted = boot from SD USB inserted = boot from USB I’ve been able to get the RP to boot from the usb using armbian-install to set it up, but then if I remove the USB, it no longer boots from the eMMC.

Hello forumees. I am running as root on an OrangePI Zero+ which uses a H2 processor running a CL version of arrmbian 3.4.113 which works fine. I have recently obtained a SimCom SIM7600CE GSM/GPS module which has only a USB interface. I tracked down drivers for it but the Linux version must be compiled to a module which I have managed (with a number of warnings) after a couple of hiccups. Now trying to install the compiled module is resulting in error messages. I think the problem is compatability with armbian which is beyond my expertise, so I am asking for help. Below is the CL dialog of my attempts to install the module. ```````````````` root@gpsC…

We have all seen the recent release announcement of Armbian 21.08 which now includes a beta release of Debian 11 (Bullseye). I have a RockPro64 (Rockchip 3399) that is currently running Debian 10 (Buster) that I would like to upgrade, so that it gets the latest packages from Debian and continues to receive security patches. I am tempted to just upgrade it by editing /etc/apt/sources.list and pulling the latest packages (the debian way), but I wondered if there is a safer way to perform the upgrade. Has anyone else upgraded a Debian based Armbain system that way. Are there any issues to watch out for? What customisations are there in Arm…

I'm trying to setup Ethernet connection on Omnima A20 - it's a cheaper stripped down version of Cubietruck (less RAM, less IO connectors, RTL8201CP 100Mbit network chip instead of 1Gbit). I'm using Debian Buster server image for Cubietruck. Everything works fine except Ethernet. ethtool says the link is up, full duplex 100Mbit. Neither networkmanager nor dhclient are able to obtain IP address from router. Static IP assignment (via /etc/network/interfaces or with "ip addr add/ip route add") succeeds, but router is unreachable for ping ("Destination Host Unreachable"). I've ruled out hardware failure: Inserting the same cable into laptop produc…

I have owned numerous Raspberry Pi boards over the years, and I have always have ran Kodi on one of them. For years I have been wanting to upgrade my RPi 3 as it cannot play any of my H.265/HEVC videos. With all the shortages, and how old the Raspberry Pi 4 is getting, I made a rather spontaneous purchase for this Orange Pi 4 LTS board. Getting it all setup is easy enough, but of course, the video (even with H.264!) nearly maxes all 6 cores and the video is chunky as it's just doing everything without any video acceleration. Even navigating the menu seems slow and delayed. I have been scouring these forums and other sources for about 12 hours now, and I am sti…

I have a NanoPi R2S Plus. If I boot the FriendlyElec Debian image both network ports work: LAN and WAN. If I boot the Armbian NanoPi R2S image, it boots OK and the LAN port works but the WAN port does not work. I believe the WAN port does not work because the NanoPi R2S has an RTL8211E chip but the NanoPi R2S Plus has an RTL8211F chip. I found some notes about problems with network on other boards that had the same change of chip (e.g. radxa RockpiE) and the device tree changes required to accommodate the new chip. So I tried to patch armbian/build to make the same changes for the NanoPi R2S Plus. I am not familiar with armbian/build or…

Hi there, Since being only a novice in linux, there are some things that are difficult to understand. Like - which configs to update or keep old versions when doing the upgrade. Last time I said N (keep original version) to everything. Really the only things I care about are vnc configs and samba setup. I basically use it as a network drive for backups. Only necessary software is x11vnc and samba. Else I log into it just for updates/restarts. I have tried upgrading my armbian several times. Unfortunately it does not work and I have to restore my sd card backup and start over. I update it making sure all apt updates are done, and then fr…

I have a pair of Orange Pi 3's acting as redundant PiHoles on my home network. After a bit of tinkering and configuring, I have them set up the way I want, and would like to keep them that way. Of course, a good backup plan is essential to this. Looking online, I found Image-Utils for Raspberry Pi, but that is limited in support for only the Raspbian OS. Is there a good system out there to make a cloneable image of an SD card in an Orange Pi, either from the Pi itself to a remote source (NFS mount, etc.), or from a remote source pulling from the Pi? I'd like to schedule this as a CRON job, so that in the event of a hardware failure, I can just re…

Hi, I'm compiling a kernel (using 5.8.16-sunxi) for an H3 board that has the RTL8189es chip onboard. But the make fails due to a missing include file. It turns out that the makefile for this driver expects a "src" variable to be loaded with the path for the makefile. But I can't find any defining reference to this variable or any mention in the make documentation that it is an internal function. I've managed to fix this by setting src to srctree and the sub-path for this driver. But this seems very clumsy to me. Can somebody explain how "src" is meant to be loaded and why it's not happening for me ? Thanks, Steven
