Hi all i'm trying to boot my Orange Pi bord over the network. For this purpose i'm going to use SPI Flash memory to load bootloader (Uboot). I found a tool named nand-sata-install introduced by Igor. I have read all the script and i'm wondering how much capacity my SPI NAND flash should have. SunXi recommends 2MB (16Mbit) but my bootloader is about 5MB.

Am I right, that there are no wifi support at uboot level for sunxi boards? And the only similar solution to use wifi at early level is to boot linux kernel with wifi support from SPI flash.

I rebooted from the 6.6.16-current-sunxi kernel to the 6.7.4-edge-sunxi on my Orange Pi +2E and it couldn't mount some partitions from a USB stick. These use LVM2, and each partition is encrypted using LUKS2 with a keyfile stored in /etc (yes, I know this is a fig leaf encryption, but it prevents someone from grabbing the USB stick and getting the contents of the drive). This works fine with the older kernel, but fails with the newer kernel. I use the exact same setup on a Rock 64 board, and it works fine, on the 6.7.4-edge-rockchip64 kernel.

Hi, I'm trying to install new bananian 15.08 ( jassie ), in the past I installed 15.04 ( wheezy ) and setup sata encrypted disk successfully using follow instructions ( http://development-annotations.blogspot.it/2015/05/banana-pi-encrypted-sata-disk-bootstrap.html ). Current system Armbian Bionic (Ubuntu 18.04) - Orange Pi One I am trying to duplicate a previous system, which I have had operating on Raspberry Pi . I have tested my script on the Orange Pi and after a few tweaks, it works fine (brilliant piece of kit!). I just need to boot to command line / terminal auto sign-in upon boot - automatically run python script within command line (the python script is an input form). Really appreciate any help / suggestions on this. Steve

Everything works, but I don't know why (;-) I upgraded to a new kernel 6.12.34-current-meson64 and also to the current u-boot. If I take a look at a current armbian image, every image.. vmlinux.. etc. is available in the boot folder, but no uImage. In my boot folder, however, in addition to the these files in the current armbian image, in my boot folder is still is a uImage from 2022. uname -r -> 6.12.34-current-meson6 So the current kernel is loaded and everything works. But if I now delete the uImage from 2022, the computer no longer boots. How does a current armbian image manage to boot without uImage? Is a uImage created at the first start? Manually…

Current Hardware Setup: Rockpi 4C,eMMC module,eMMC to SD Card Adapter, M.2 Extension Board, NVME Drive, USB To Serial Debug Cable. OS: Armbian_20.08.1_Rockpi-4b_focal_current_5.8.6.img.xz (Right now, I'm using the above mentioned os from sdcard and the os can detect nvme disk using 'lsblk' command) Query: How one can install '/boot' partition on eMMC (or sdcard) and '/' (root-partition) on NVME disk (attached to rockpi 4c through M.2 Extension Board) ? (aim is to boot from either eMMC or ssd and use nvme disk as / partition) Waiting for your valuable suggestions. Thanks in advance from, Spherulite.

An hour a go I powered down my Neo Core 2 and now I can't get it to boot properly. When I hook it to the serial Monitor this is the output. It tries to load the "-fixup.scr" file in the /boot/dtb/allwinner/overlay folder but of course this is not available. With the extfls command I searched the folder and those two files would be available: sun50i-h5-fixup.scr sun50i-a64-fixup.scr The "sun50i-h5-fixup.scr" would be the right one for my processor however why does it choose "-fixup.scr" instead? Hi, I'm trying to boot a legacy 3.4 kernel using the current Armbian U-Boot but progress stops after U-Boot starts the kernel. The last line displayed is "Starting kernel ...". I believe the kernel (uImage) is being loaded at 0x48000000 and the script.bin is being loaded at 0x43000000. These values seem correct to me. Does anybody know if booting these old kernels is still supported with newer U-Boot ? I'd like to have one U-Boot that can handle both old and new. Thanks, Steven

Hello I flashed EDK2 to SPI and I am able to enter the UEFI menu and change things, but it seems that u-boot takes over the boot process to actually boot the kernel. I also built a custom resolute image using the command below which I flashed to SDCard: Then I added a Grub entry for the SDCard image with this custom build but when I boot it it shows that u-boot is being used not UEFI. The default Grub boot is from emmc with an EFI FAT32, /boot EXT4, and / F2FS which is armbian trixie, and it works well - but with u-boot so I am trying to test how booting via pure UEFI will work so I can migrate to a pure UEFI se…

Now we have a preliminary UEFI edk2 port for rk3399 boards with (kind of) working video output. It is able to boot Windows and Linux with pure ACPI now, though the acpi is quite broken currently. Windbg used to debug NT kernel over uart is basically working. You are welcomed to get involved to do some testing or offer some help! Repo: https://github.com/edk2-porting/edk2-rk3399/

Hi guys, Using Debian Jessie/armbian 4.5 here. Was today using tcpdump, tested out also tshark, and aparently the BPF rules are not working... (?) Hello, Thanks for armbian on Banana PI, it is really wonderful compared to official releases. I installed the image "Armbian_community_26.2.0-trunk.904_Bananapim2ultra_trixie_current_6.18.29_minimal.img.xz" on my Banana PI M2 Berry (there is no image for this type), and all is working wonderfully well ... except rebooting or shutting down the Banana PI. When typing reboot, all services stop but the screen blocks on systemd-shutdown[1]: Rebooting. and it never reboots. It does the same for shutdown, stuck on same kind of message. Could you help me please ? Regards

Today I installed the armbian build "system" as suggested by @Igor in some threads (VirtualBox with Ubuntu 16.04 64Bit and a GitHub clone). After generating a armbian 5.38 (with old kernel, bad WiFi and USB unuseable for WiFi or Ethernet) for my OPi i96 I did see that also a entry is for the BananaPi M2 Ultra. I got the little brother - the BPi M2 Berry - so I created also a image for an sd-card At the fist try I did no connect to the board (I know video driver isnt there). About 6 months ago I started a music project with the Raspberry PI Zero 2W. The project is a module to generate weird and wonderful drone music/sounds (example here) Because of the fact that it's nearly impossible to got hold of the Raspberry PI Zero 2W, I want to "port" the project to an alternative and available board with the same footprint and pinout; the BPI M2 Zero would be perfect. Hi all, i just stumbled upon the Bana Pi M4 Zero while searching for an pi zero 2w alternative that features at least 5ghz network support. My use case is explained quickly, I want to use g_mass_storage to create an smart usb stick device. I can't use libcomposite, since old devices (and it's going to be used with old tech) don't support composite as far as I know. Is g_mass_storage supported by default or would I have to compile my own kernel/image?

Hi guys, I have a BPI-M3, and wanted to roll my own build, given the current dissatisfaction with the builds provided by Sinovoip themselves. In any case, I have tested this locally, and it builds a bootable sd card, which works on UART only. It doesn't have working ethernet or WiFi, but at least you can interact with it over UART. Please feel free to review and comment on the script, and let me know if there are any issues running in your environment (ie, prerequisites that I have already, and make an invalid assumption that it is present). As per the comment inside the script, it will wipe the sdcard specified, and repartition with one partition whic…

Hi All, as I just started with armbian on one of my R2s and I would like to share my learnings.... 1. Learning build own Image Why?: One of my requirements is to have DRBD Support which seems not to be part of standard build. At least it was gone with one of the Kernel Updates. So I setup a VM as described here: https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/ to build a Image that supports DRBD. That was really simple. Build took 81min for me... Image Size 864MB Next goals are to bring this image running on the R2 on the eMMC. This worked with armbian-config After moving to eMMC Reboot issue is visible... Adapt hostname, local…

Anything involved with screen blanking /MUST/ be removed or disabled, on the bpim5, and it exists in so many places it took me 2 days of poking around to stop the no recovery except reboot if un-used for more than 15 minutes regardless of what it happens to be running at the time. When a blanker kicks in, the monitor powers down and the bpim5 goes inactive with only the red pwr led on steady, and nothing wakes it up except the reset button. These things use so little power that it doesn't bither me a bot to leave them running. I have an rpi4b running a big metal lathe that works as intended, with uptimes in years, this should be the same. It w…

It's important to believe blindly in numbers! At least when you try to be mislead as much as possible! Yesterday Michael Larabel from Phoronix fired up his usual set of passive benchmarking tests for the new Raspberry Pi 3 and he still uses rather questionable results for other boards to compare with (he claims that it would be sufficient to use a board with 'factory settings', run a set of synthetic benchmarks, don't analyse the results or even think about whether they could be wrong and treat the results as the truth) RPi 3 is 4 times faster than OPi PC and 6 times faster than OPi Plus? Really? If you just try to think about these graphs for a second it…

So I have managed to partially pull out one of the usb sockets on my tv box. The little plastic piece that holds the 4 metal pins has come out while I was pulling out a slightly deformed usb cable. The box still worked while it was on. After a reboot it is not coming on. The LEDs and VFD don't come on. It doesn't boot into armbian or android. Is it safe to say that it is dead? I think I am going to have to try and lift those metal pins. Because they are touching the metal usb housing. Perhaps that is causing a short-circuit somewhere. If all else fails I will try to desolder the whole usb slot. Update: I have bent …

Could the maintainer please rebuild the package? The package linux-source-4.19.20-next-sunxi has the kernel source code in a tarball linux-source-4.19.20-sunxi.tar.xz, but that tarball has an error in it. It contains the following link: wireguard -> /home/igorp/samsung/cache/sources/wireguard/src This is an oops on Igor's part. Incidentally, I found a number of broken links, I'm not sure if these are all errors: /usr/src$ find -follow -type l -ls 142207 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 47 Feb 9 11:01 ./net/wireguard -> /home/igorp/samsung/cache/sources/wireguard/src 634352 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root …

Hello. I want to use btrfs as my rootfs (Armbian Ubuntu xenial 5.14 on M2) so I can use snapshots to roll back, freeze for backups, and to help manage changes. Btrfs is also good for error checking and can provide cheap easy data redundancy. How does booting work on my BPI M2? How can I change the target root partition? What has to be on /boot (ext4) and what can be on / (btrfs)? Along the same lines, is it possible to boot off of a USB device either directly or indirectly (Small SD with bootloader and /boot→ USB large root device)? Is there some documentation or good keywords to learn about how booting works in the ARM world?

I think now for the 3rd time this happens. OS is Armbian Bookworm with vendor ,current, edge kernels installed. it turns out that with vendor kenel there is no issue. But fails for mainline based rockchip64 kernels, at least edge. I am not sure about current (6.6 or 6.12) as I am not really using those. I discovered first time with 6.13.0-rc* kernel, I assumed something else might have been wrong, so more or les ignored and rebooted with vendor kernel. That happened both with nanopi-r6c and rock-3a. I also already rebooted the rock-3a on a later occasion just t make sure problem would not occur. Yesterday was on nanopi-r6c with kernel 6.15.1-edge-rockchip64. I…

busybox or busybox-static package is needed for update initramfs must run after kernel updates. The busybox-static package is missing on the Tinkerboard and Odroid C2 image (may be others). I filed a bug report here: [busybox or busybox-static is needed for update initramfs · Issue #1124 · armbian/build · GitHub](https://github.com/armbian/build/issues/1124#issuecomment-427852788) Apparently it was not the right place. It got closed immedeatly: > The issue is closed for two reasons: it contains no valuable info and it's in the wrong place. I still consider this to be an important bug, so I leave a trace here.

Is anyone else running their build environment in a VM? Specifically hosted by QEMU? I'm running into some strange things, and wondering if anyone has seen it. I'm running an Ubuntu (20.04) in a VM using QEMU as the hypervisor. Basically, the build generally works fine. However, as I add more features/processes to the customization script, I am starting to see segmentation faults. I see this with sudo and when I try to git pull something. This is what I get: qemu: uncaught target signal 11 (Segmentation fault) - core dumped Segmentation fault (core dumped) I got here by dumping into a bash script from 'customize-image.sh', so it'…

Tried to build making a new git clone of the repository. So far tried to test by building orangepipcplus and orangepiplus2e, both stop in the screen 'Choose image type'. Options selected for both are 'Os image for installation to SD card', 'vendor provided / legacy ..) kernel, 'Debian 8 jessie', 'Image with desktop'environment'. Also, another try to build for nanopineo stopped in the same place. It seems that today's commits (29/12/2016) got something to do with this, I was able to generate images up to yesterday. @Igor, @zador.blood.stained can you please let me know if it works ok with you after today's commits?

Hello, I'll like to build my own kernel, mostly to learn more about Linux on ARM. The device I have is RK3399 based (Nanopi M4v2). Can I use the mainline kernel or are some parches needed? Where can I get the correct DTS? Is there any guide on how to do this? I'm not unfamiliar on how to build a custom kernel, but that was on x86/x64. ARM is a very different animal.

Hi, all: I wonder if there is a manual to DIRECTLY build Linux Kernel (Say, current version 5.0.9) against any board, as far as uname -a is known ? For instance, current Armbian for Banana Pi M3 is of the following uname -a value: sky@bananapim3:~/Downloads/sunxi$ uname -a Linux bananapim3 4.19.25-sunxi #5.78 SMP Mon Apr 8 07:46:22 CEST 2019 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux Anyway, I'm trying to test it out... Hello everyone, I'm new user about SBC and armbian. I recently purchased this SBC - purple-pi-oh (rk3566, Number/type of interfaces similar to Raspberry Pi), It has opened up its linux sdk and more. I first directly downloaded and tried all rk3566/3568 images of other SBCs, such as station m2/station p2/Bananapir2pro, etc., and the most pleasant surprise was that using the station m2 image, purple pi oh almost works (can run through the installation process, mouse/keyboard/hdmi monitor works fine), t…

Hello everyone, I am trying to build a custom image of Armbian for the Radxa CM3, but I'm a little confused with how to proceed. I thought if I cloned the repo I could modify a similar board configuration file (such as rock-3a.conf) by renaming a copy as radxa-cm3.conf and changing BOOT_FDT_FILE to use my own device tree, but this is where I got lost. I'm not sure where to put the device tree in the cloned repo so that it gets used during the build process. I'm also not sure if I would need to change BOOTCONFIG as well, and if so where to find the file to modify. Any and all advice to point me in the right direction is appreciated! Thanks! …

Hello, dear armbian community. I am using Orange Pi 5 plus, and I want to use kernel-6.16-5-edge-rockchip64 by armbian, as works much better than actual mainline (I have broken HDMI sound, buggy OpenGL, no power profiles) I, however, want to build kernel for different distro (OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, aka binpkg-rpm). Where do I get kernel sources to do this? (And is it the right place to ask this question?)

I'm trying to build the linux-tools binaries from the kernel using the armbian build. I ran the ./compile.sh script and it built the image, but I only want the linux-tools binaries to copy over. I'm not sure how to get it to build them, when I go into the kernel tools folder and do "make all" it builds the binaries for x64 instead of for arm64. I looked through the kernel config file when running ./compile.sh script but can't find an option to build the linux-tools. I'm not sure how to add it so that they are built for the target system arm64.

So I'm fairly new to Armbian (although I have already managed to successfully create a custom build with most of what I need). Sadly, I've very much hit a blocker. I really need to use linux-tools/perf on an RK3588 board with a vendor kernel (I'm using the Mali OpenCL, and the ARM packages are mostly locked) and I need to do some performance tuning. I cannot figure out how to get these tools deployed. 1. There are no linux-tools packages build -- which is fair enough, I'm probably in a minority. Some parts of the tools directories are culled during a cleaning process for the headers, I can see that 2. I am happy to copy over the kernel source and build o…

I was hoping to get some idea if it would be possible to build Armbian for the ODroid OGU (S922X, similar to N2+) using a different Kernel. Specifically, using the version from JelOS (https://github.com/JustEnoughLinuxOS/distribution) who have made really good progress for this specific device. I've been building JelOS and modifying packages etc, but would prefer to use Armbian if possible. Any help appreciated.

I'm not sure if anyone is interested in a very small distro without gcc, but I spent some time the last week using buildroot and armbian's source files to create a 3.4.112-rt image for the nanopi neo. It is going to be part of a realtime audio project (think synth or guitar pedal) that I'm working on and it demands a quick boot, among other things. There is also a mainline version, but it doesn't have all the fixings you folks like, so I don't know if you'd want to use that. You can find the build scripts and config files on my github. I'll be posting the legacy image in a zip file tonight, once I verify everything is reproducible. I…

https://armbian.lv.auroradev.org/apt/pool/bullseye-utils/h/htop/ Nothing there. Just running basic ... apt-get update && apt-get upgrade ... upon initial install, and it fails with "failed to fetch" (404) from whatever apt.armbian.com mirror it selects (of 2 or 3 observed). Held it back with apt-mark, removed it, and built from source using deb-src. Doesn't seem to be any problems or issues running htop built from deb-src, so, not sure why its needed in the Armbian source repositories ???

Hello, I'm planning to replace my old (but very good) Banana PI (the first model, it should be called M1 if I remember). Hi all, I have upgraded an Odroid C2 setup to C4, and encountered some strange issues. The SPI interface of C2 is bit banging, while the C4 offers "real" hardware support for SPI. I use a current kernel (5.10.102) with Bullseye. I use two SPI /CS lines, while one SPI controller takes care of "user" interaction with the LatticeSemi MachXO2 FPGA on the addon board. The other SPI controller is used to reflash the MachXO2 by the SPI. On the C2, everything works fine (while slow, due to bitbanging). On the C4, the same code on Odroid and FPGA fails - but only on the reflashing interface, not the user interface. The user int…
