there is this particular version of dtc by Pantelis Antoniou https://github.com/pantoniou/dtc which allows dynamic overlays and use of symbols instead of numeric addresses as references https://events.static.linuxfound.org/sites/events/files/slides/dynamic-dt-elce14.pdf after doing a bit of research i found that the more recent version of device-tree-compiler shipped with the kernel and armbian has built-in the dynamic overlays as well https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/utils/dtc/dtc.git however, i found out that even with the nightly builds the current dtc version 1.4.2 isn't as recent as the updated version that could be found in …

Hi, Thank you for your interest, you won't be disappointed. You have probably read that the developer want to do some changes - and some of this changes are now ready to get tested in the BETA's of armbian. Do not test with your 'production' SDcard unless you have done a backup ;-) Once done that, please go to 'armbian-config' System switch to BETA (Nightly), do an update/upgrade, reboot, check if your system still performs as before. If it does work like before - please let us know and post your 'armbianmonitor -u' link If it doesn't work, please try a reboot, check if the problem is reproduceable and if so explain the s…

BOARD: bananapim2plus BRANCH: dev RELEASE: stretch did only boot one time through to the login, mostly get stuck at booting. I assume it must be something with memory config or dts setup tried already 3 sdcards, 2boards so looks like not a hardware issue old armbian (5.21 works fine) Did not see a "memory section" in the dts file? Is it mandatoy? where is the memory size defined or how does linux know it? Here the boot log ( adjust boot params with earlyprintk), maybe someone has an idea? I customized my Armbian install with 2 operating systems on two partitions. In armbianEnv.txt I use rootdev to specify the default partition. I would like to set it so that if booting from the default rootdev fails (triggering panic or root-wait, etc.), it will instead try to boot with rootdev/root set to the other partition. Is that possible?

i worked on the BPI M1 Board (the first one) for quite a while now improving or more or less rewriting the A20 CSI camera driver. there are no more artifact-ghost-frames any more. The framerate goes from 5fps(full) to 120fps(crobbed small) i also modified the camera-device driver for the ov5640. disadvantage: existing camera device drivers would not be compatible any more. maybe someone wants to give it a try and check it out. it can be found here: https://github.com/xenpac/OV5640-Sunxi-A20

Using the dev build of Armbian for the OrangePi One, does the SPI driver in the mainline kernel support DMA? According to the mainline status page the work on SPI is done, and DMA has been supported since 4.2 I have enabled the spi interface in the device tree and my driver initialises properly with the master. But in my kernel driver I attempt to allocate some memory with dma_alloc_coherent and it fails. The driver works fine with the legacy kernel and with alternative hardware (raspberry pi). Is there some additional configuration needed or does anyone have any pointers to information on this that I look at? --edit Solved…

For anyone who wants a minimal "network-install" like image for orangepizero. Does this with the customize-image.sh and armbian build scripts. Could be cleaner but would be much easier to just hack the build scripts. I've tested with jessie and stretch, and with branches default, next, and dev. The image should boot up, get eth0 dhcp address, and have serial console on ttyS0. Script option to remove systemd and use sysvinit. Might be modded to work with other boards? Set the following options and use the customize-image.sh. If script breaks due to upstream changes, use last tested commit: git checkout -f a66121 # required options f…

Hi guys, I'm new on linux, In the last week, I have downloaded armbian source code to build a light-weight kernel for my orangepi zero. Since kernel 4.18, on my rk3288 tv-box USB devices have always had problems when plugged in after the box boot (ie: USB device not working at all) I found that the problem is described and solved by this patch: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10535905/ Applying it to latest 4.18.4 kernel the functionality is restored, and I can't see similar patches in rockchip-dev. I think it should be applied to all rockchip SoCs at least until it gets merged into mainline

I know that the RaspberryPi cannot use netconsole due to the ethernet connector being driven over the USB bus, and thus not suporting polling (which is needed for netconsole). When i look at my LePotato kernel (4.14.57), I see: # CONFIG_NETCONSOLE is not set # CONFIG_NETPOLL is not set # CONFIG_NET_POLL_CONTROLLER is not set So it is clear netconsole won't work as is. Before I go through the process of building the kernel to enable these, I thought I'd check if I am wasting my time. Is it expected that polling will work? I know it is in development. and only for testing. I have build armbian 5.51 ubuntu 18.04, kernel 4.14 . I have question. max cpu H3 speed is set up on 1100 mhz. All orange pi boards with the same cpu have 1296 mhz. I set up cpu governor on performance all the time 1100mhz. I achieved temperatures on cpu between 53-62 celsius degrees. Could be the max cpu speed bring up to the 1296 MHZ? I have radiator 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm on board tritium H3. And it is not very hot. thanks for reply.

U-boot is always a great source of amusement, did anyone try that combination? Just yesterday got v2018.05 in, and it just does not work. I don't get any serial from u-boot SPL, do I don't know what is happening. I compiled it with #define DEBUG, and still no serial output at all. At last I downloaded latest mainline u-boot (v2018.07-rc2) from github, applied manually the patches, complied and it worked. It seems something very specific for v2018.05 and rockchip/rk3288

Dear Armbian community, I'm trying to make a minimal size Armbian image ( Ubuntu 16.04 with default kernel). Build system works great, but when I'm building the system without GUI (Image wit console interface "server") a bluetooth system doesn't work. I tried to build same system with same configs, but set "Image with desktop environment". In this case bluetooth system works great. I tried to solve this problem by myself, but..... It seems like I can not fix it. So, why I'm thinking that bluetooth system doesn't work. When I'm using bluetoothctl list it is void output. hciconfig -a void output I tried to start systemctl st…

Ubuntu Server edition doesn't use the fundamentally limited Network Manager for a reason. For any kind of semi-complex networking configuration, (say VLANs, bridges, per-network firewall rules, any kind of policy based routing and so on and so on). Also, conversely on little, largely headless servers with static network configurations, Network Manager is a big, bloaty and intrusive process that adds boot time and complications. Just recently I have struggled hugely with difficult to replicate networking issues. I thought (and Network Manager reported) that NM didn't touch the interfaces specified in e/n/i. Turns out not to be the case. Is there an…

Hi guys I'm working to port the bpi-m2m to armbian. Right now i'm having a strange behaviour. I'm new to armbian development. I only use it for a npi-neo back in time. Anyway, my problem is quite simple. I have a working uboot and a working kernel (I think). the decive tree is in mainline. Looking the schematic, the DTS looks it is ok. I crated the armbian configuration, buit an image and it started "working" (you will se why is inside teh quote mark later) . Somehow i got a shell via UART. I configured the wireless AP and I got a working image. (Only BT was not working, no idea why). Due to the BT problem I decided to reboot the SBC and the problem I got b…

Hello all, I have something that you might find useful. I created an image for the Ubuntu 16.04 core for the firefly roc-rk3328-cc board. I followed the firefly docs to compile the firefly 4.4.114 kernel and build out the u-boot image. I followed this guide http://docs.khadas.com/social/BuildUbuntuRootfsViaUbuntuBase/ to get the ubuntu rootfs. I then created a disk image with the u-boot kernel, ubunutu rootfs, and the SoC. It actually worked. This is a very minimal install to the point where I have to modify the rootfs guide above to include the eth0 interface and probably install the network-manager. …

I would like to build a hard realtime Linux kernel for Orange Pi SoC. Using Xenomai technologies (Installing Xenomai 3.x , Xenomai Documentation). This would be a great extension of the SoC application area. I did this for the x86 architecture. And I've already assembled the core using your Arabian technology. Hi every devs ! (some of you know that I was on other duties those past months, mainly constructing my new house and moving in it, but I'm now back to Armbian builds those recent days after more then 6 busy months) I've noticed yesterday that USB1-DRVVBUS/PD7 was not activated any more in my recent build, although the fix-many-orangepiwin-dts.patch should take care of that and this one is successfully applied. After digging the issue, I've found out that the sunxi64-hdmi-thermal-dma-pmw-enable.patch is reverting many of those, probably unintentionally, and since this patch is applied after the first one, things are revert silently. …

Hi, I've built my own Ubuntu Armbian image for the NanoPi Duo so I could use Ubuntu Snaps without classic confinement (The pre-built images don't seem to have SquashFS Compiled in the kernel). The image seems to be working perfect. However I've noticed one thing which I'm not sure if it's the image or a generic armbian issue but I've noticed that every time I reboot it the mac address updates. I'm using it for a server so having it generate a new IP each time I need to reboot it for development is a bit of an issue. Is there a recommended way to set a static one or such?

I want to have a "dual boot" system with Openelec for video and Armbian for the rest :-) The boot files are named different except 'boot.scr'. So the idea is to rename it, so the right one is used and then do a reboot. Not the PC dual boot with a menu, but good enough for me :-D So I copied the files from the /boot folder to an existing FAT partition and copied the rest to a newly created ext4 partition (mmcblk0p3). I modified 'boot.scr' to this: gpio set PL10 gpio set PG11 setenv machid 1029 setenv bootm_boot_mode nonsec if fatload mmc 0 0x00000000 /boot/.verbose then setenv verbosity 7 else setenv verbosity 1 fi setenv bootargs "console=tty1 r…

Hello Everyone, I would like to share my experience about how to boot Orange Pi almost silently in console mode (eliminate a lot of kernel messages on startup) without desktop and remove cursor blinking that can cause black rectangle appearing over white background, when painting to framebuffer. Many options that proposed as being able to reduce kernel messages on boot didn't work for me. So based on Armbian documentation I started to experience with armbianEnv.txt file in the /boot folder. The extraargs setting was not part of the default armbianEnv.txt file, but appeared in BOOT.CMD file. The setting extraargs=vt.global_cursor_default=0 quiet sol…

Hi All, I am not new to kernel building. I have been building kernels since the early days of Gentoo. Kernels on boards however, is something a bit different. I have an roc-rk3328-cc but this would be applicable to a variety of boards. Right now Firefly has their 4.* kernel at 4.4.114. I guess at some point that was what they went with. The current kernel is at about 4.15.14. I couldn't figure out how to patch from 4.4.114 to 4.15.14 (if you could provide help with that, please do so) so I downloaded the tarball and extracted it into the firefly's git directory. What should have happened was any kernel related file got u…

So, I am working on a Clearfog Pro here, having compiled a 4.14.17 kernel and built a Debian Buster image on the m2 ssd via debootstrap. The board boots, and all the network ports behave as expected, but for the SFP cage. After spending some time digging through menuconfig, and not finding the appropriate option, I hunted a little, and found that sfp.c, sfp-bus.c, and phylink.c are all in the kernel code, but no manner of configuration can access them. I have dug up a couple of patchsets which seem necessary, but the dts patches (2nd link, january 2nd-7th, 2017 patches, near the bottom of the page) at least seem not to be merged into the mainline tree. I have not exam…

Some more info about the devfreq bug. I have tried many possible fixes unsuccessfully. But I have noticed that, no matter what changes I make in the kernel config with the Armbian build script, the file "/boot/config-4.4.119-rockchip" never changes. And, worst of all, it includes the following lines: # DEVFREQ Governors # CONFIG_DEVFREQ_GOV_SIMPLE_ONDEMAND is not set # CONFIG_DEVFREQ_GOV_PERFORMANCE is not set # CONFIG_DEVFREQ_GOV_POWERSAVE is not set CONFIG_DEVFREQ_GOV_USERSPACE=y # DEVFREQ Drivers # CONFIG_ARM_ROCKCHIP_DMC_DEVFREQ is not set # CONFIG_PM_DEVFREQ_EVENT is not set I think those can be causing the problem. But, as I say, I can't seem to change that c…

Hi All, I have looked at the "How to build your own image/kernel post", but am wondering what the best way for me is to contribute. Basically, I often use the pine64 running armbian as an IoT control hub/gateway where it is running an install of nginx/php/mysql/mosquito/nodered. The php part is mostly because of phpmyadmin, so nginx comes in that case configured with node-red mounted on / and phpmyadmin on /phpmyadmin. I could create my own image with all this stuff on it, and also configure some default usernames, passwords and wifi setup, but I also noticed the "Software" section in armbian-config. So my question is which of these 3 options would b…

Hello, We've enabled pps-gpio in armbianEnv and will hopefully soon have our GPS/PPS source sync'ing the Neo2. We are also trying to have the Neo2 as a PPS generator when there is no local GPS/PPS connected and it's sync'd on the LAN from another Neo2 that has the GPS/PPS. To make all this work we'd like to be able to activate a PPS generator (output), along the lines of: https://github.com/jsln/pps-gen-gpio Think we understand the device-tree process well enough, but how (and where) would we put the driver code and have it compiled in and usable? Is this something that can be done on top of the nightly build we're using, or would we have to do this in t…

Hi folks, I've got Igor's debian stretch server image for cubietruck running, compiled sunxi kernel 4.16.0-rc1 without power management options, but can't get USB autosuspend disabled. There are a few posts regarding this issue, but they don't resolve my issue, since in the stretch system I don't have entries for /power/level or /power/control of the usb devices, it just doesn't exist. Thus I can't fix this issue setting /power/control to 'on'. /sys/bus/usb/devices/$device/power DOES NOT EXIST /sys/bus/usb/devices/$device/power/level DOES NOT EXIST /sys/bus/usb/devices/$device/power/control DOES NOT EXIST /sys/bus/usb/devices/$device/power/autosuspend D…

Dear All, Thank you so much for your efforts for such a nice project. I searched for the forum, but couldn't find a similar topic. The board's name is DR47. I've installed a pristine copy of Armbian_5.38_Nanopiair_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.15 onto an SD card, booted up my NanoPi Neo Air successfully. I even managed to get wifi to work, etc. When trying to enable the SPI interface (ls -la /dev/ | grep -i spi returns no devices) I ran sudo armbian-config which suddenly started to flash my eMMC. The strange thing is that my keyboard seems to be just fine, no other application on my machine is "typing automatically". The screen during the flash is also seemingly broken. Did anyone experience the same? Thanks. (Is there another way to enable SPI without the armbian-config utility if i…

Hi guys, Given the not so great durability of SD cards (and limited storage...I try to keep everything on NFS mounts, but there's always some log that decides to randomly fill the SD card full of crap), and the incapability of run properly docker (it runs, but it NEEDS to use damn local storage, and won't take an NFS mount for some reason...it gets full real quick), I was considering to boot to a iSCSI target. This would let me expand storage anytime I need, plus it would make backup and snapshots a piece of cake. Is there a way to do this?

A while ago we added some logic to set LINUXFAMILY=sunxi in /etc/armbian-release and this breaks completely the IRQ affinity settings in /etc/init.d/armhwinfo (prepare_board function). Sunxi boards upgrading to 5.35 get slower with some use cases unless a fix in 5.36 is provided (though I've no idea how the fix should look like) It seems board support packages on apt.armbian.com have been built a few days ago not containing latest fixes. Is this possible?

I'm familiar with the armbian-config tool and while I think its cool, it may not be the best thing for the beginner. The hardest part of beginning anything is not knowing what you don't know. I've begun writing a simple tool using curses and python which hopefully disambiguates some of the features of each board. I'm currently focusing on H3 boards, since thats what I have and I'm most familiar with them. Currently I have the ascii art and setup for the Orangepi PC, One, Zero, and Nanopi Neo. The idea is to use the arrow keys to navigate, spacebar to select, 'b' for back, and (most importantly) 'h' for help. The help menu should have enough information to ge…

Hi, first of all thank you for the great work. Let me tell you my story. I bought a Pinebook laptop some months ago and in my spare time I was playing with numerous OS-es. Installing and testing one by one. In total I've tested every single OS and so far Armbian is the winner. Why? Well because it is super fast, very stable, lightweight and with very simple xfce desktop look and feel. Now, like everything in life, there are some bad sides of Armbian. I am not sure if I will say something false or strange but I don't consider my self expert for hardware nor Linux world. So far I have also Raspberry Pi with Raspbian installed and don't see any bad si…

Happy new year everyone, I am working on a project where I want to control two brushed DC motors equipped with a magnetic encoder and driven by a H-bridge circuit. All this has to be done on a tiny arm board (with enough cpu power for other computations), and I decided to go for the NanoPi NEO Air. I compiled the actual mainline Kernel with realtime capability (turned PREEEMTIVE on in menuconfig, hope that's enough) and debian streched. One issue might be the tight and constraining timing when sampling the magnetic encoder, which generates two 1.6kHz (about 0.6ms) pulses for each motor. I guess it would be best to get an interrupt generated at each…

tonight as I was about to head to bed, I noticed low buzz coming from my Tinker board as if my fan was running. Sure enough it was running, I checked top and a couple processes were trying to read from the cifs share and had the cores pinned using 100%... I also tried almost everything, nothing fixed the issue until I rolled back my kernel from Dev (4.14.0-rc1) to Next (4.13.2) then all the problems were gone. I also noticed on the 4.14.0-rc1 kernel booting and shutdown times were much longer... at least double of whats normal, this was true w…

For some time there is NAND driver for both SPL and u-boot for Allwinner SoCs. You can check boards/sunxi/README.nand. I'm currently testing this. What I'm thinking is, if this option works fine, should nand-sata-install script to be reworked? Instead of using the old SDK u-boot, mainline spl+u-boot to be packed in the bootloader deb and then written somehow? At this point as I can see only CHIP_pro has this feature enabled.

The topic of Stretch came up in the Odroid C2 Mainline testing thread, and turns out we don't have a thread about making Stretch available. I've done some testing with several boards using the Upgrading Debian Jessie to Stretch thread and had great success. But, I wanted to start a discussion about what is needed to get official Stretch support in place. I have several projects where I need to use Stretch instead of Jessie, so I'm exited to help try and contribute where I can. I also wanted to discuss the idea of possibly making two stretch images: one using systemd and one using openrc (which is supported in Stretch). 99% of the work is identical, the only ma…

Let's sum up major concerns/problems and unify/create a plan of actions. We already decided to wait with mainline H3-H5-A64 ... which means old stable/legacy kernels/a10-20-xu4 (what else?) mainline should be rebuilt and what remains goes under nightly? Images can be made one board at the time, they can be made in exactly 4 days or not. Perhaps I should emphasize "approximately" more? Or remove this date since it only creates an extra pressure? Or is it ok? This should be fun. For me, most of the time is even sometimes days are wasted and frustration or stress builds up to insane levels. We know which kernels are not done and there is nothing we…

In order to make armbian better, we need your help with testing. Why? there are simply too many boards to handle, there are task which can't be automatized, there are bugs which are not seen from our perspective. What kind of tests? booting, user creation, updates, upgrades checking if basic supported functions work: video, audio, network, wireless, AP mode do nasty thing to your board and report. How to test? Download nightly images from here. You want to test image which is not there? Add those two parameters with desired targets to board's config and create a pull request. and / or cha…

'Upstream' the idea to ship OS images with Firefox/Iceweasel has been dropped in the meantime due to horribly low performance in favour of chromium-browser. As far as I understood that's partially related to firefox acting single threaded (while Chromium uses all CPU cores). Here's longsleep's latest config and the mostly accepted 'fix' for Chromium complaining about running insecure due to missing sandboxing is disabling exactly this. (that's Hardkernel's method to 'fix' Chromium on ODROID-C2). You may have read about the recent (one month ago, but hey, what's a month between friends?) security vulnerabilities discovered in dnsmasq. They have been patched in version 2.78 and, quoting the author: This is a bugfix release, and, amongst other things, addresses a set of serious security vulnerabilities. Update should be mandatory. The dnsmasq shipped with Armbian is a rather old 2.75 and it is enabled by default, so I see this as a rather significant risk. I have compiled the latest version and installed it by hand, following the instructions located here (obviously, with 2.78 instead of 2.76). Is there any chance of getting this package updated in …

To do this I do the following: Compile my own dtbo and load it: /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { compatible = "allwinner,sun7i-a20"; fragment@0 { target = <&rtp>; __overlay__ { allwinner,ts-attached; }; }; }; Blacklist gpadc modules: blacklist sun4i_gpadc_iio blacklist sun4i_gpadc After reboot the touchscreen is working. However I cannot see what is loading these two modules? Also is there any other way getting working touchscreen? I'm using armbian 5.34 with kernel version 4.13.11.

It's time to unify GPIO for the other PIs with WiringOtherPI and bundle it with Armbian!
