Hi there. Trying to get SPIDEV working on my good old cubietruck aka cubieboard3 with an allwinner A20. Found some posts here and there dealing with A20 boards. But nothing of that did anything for me so far. Enabled it in armbian-config hardware settings and rebooted. No /dev/spi* at all. No mentioning of "spi" in dmesg. Step 1 gave a line "overlays=spi-spidev" in /boot/armbianEnv.txt. Read somewhere else that there should be another line "param_spidev_spi_bus=0", but that was not created by armbian-config. Added that ...bus=0 line myself and rebooted. Still no spi device and nothing in dmesg /proc/device-tree-model says "cubietec…

I am releasing this patch in the hope of you may find it useful. I have also included a sample dts file. It seems to work in 48mhz quite well with very few SPI errors. (Note that the pieces of the driver has been around for some time but I have never seen it put together without further work. Hopefully this patch would make it readily usable. I have tested it on 5.5.18 and quite happy with it.) 0001-fbtft-fb_ili9488.patch 1_ili9488.dts Sample file is for nanopi neo. Driver also works with 4 inch LCD, MSP4020, MSP4021

Tested this on clearfog base, banana pi m64, banana pi m2+ ## Building and providing The elastic team doesn't provide deb packages for ARM devices. But together with docker, we're able to build the main executable for it. We will create a build directory which includes anything to install filebeat on a ARM device. So please stay inside the build directory the whole time you are using this tutorial. mkdir build && cd $_ ## Prepare source code First we will download, check and extract the source code of filebeat. Hi, There's been a few guides around on how to get RDP working with Armbian so you can login from your Windows or other PC. Some solutions mentioned in various threads here were: Install tightvncserver instead + x2go bloat (i.e. use VNC) Only login as root - didn't seem to make any difference for me Change some permissions of a log file in your home directory. Well, this is what I did on my Orange PI PC running Buster desktop with Kernel 5.4, as of April 2020. sudo apt install xrdp xorgxrdp sudo systemctl enable xrdp sudo reboot ... and that was it. The missing piece of the puzzel appeared to be the install of …

Hi all. I wrote a small guide on enabling pps-gpio by modifying the device tree. With a PPS signal it's possible to setup your board as a Stratum 1 time server for your local network or the NTP pool. I used this method on a Rock64 but it should be applicable on most board. PPS-GPIO on Rock64 with Armbian legacy (4.4.X) kernel Cheers.

I am trying to use a Waveshare e-Paper (2.9") with an Orange Pi Zero LTS. To enable the SPI interface, I have added this to /boot/armbianEnv.txt: overlays=spi-add-cs1 spi-spidev param_spidev_spi_bus=1 param_spidev_max_freq=10000000 and installed WiringPI from Github. The e-Paper module is connected to the following GPIO pins: VCC: 3.3V GND: GND DIN: 19(phys)/11(wPi) CLK: 23(phys)/14(wPi) CS: 24(phys)/15(wPi) DC: 22(phys)/13(wPi) RST: 3(phys)/0(wPi) BUSY: 5(phys)/1(wPi) I have checked the connections by using the gpio command line tool to set all 6 ports above to low and to high, and verifying the output with a multimeter. Then I downloaded the e-…

Trying to figure out which NOR chip to buy for my ZeroPi is giving me a headache. FriendlyArm has very little info available on what works. The board has an empty spot to solder a NOR chip that I would like to populate. There are so many chips all with different voltages and clock frequencies. The wiki and schematic omit the connection all together so I really have no idea what would work. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Finally I got my lcd (some of them) to work with armbian on mainline kernel (5.4) using device tree overlay. It should be working on 4.19 kernel too. I test mine on orange pi zero. The one I am able to get working is ili9341 and st7735 based lcd. I'll add more detail later but for now I'd like to get this out. edit 1 : Adding ssd1306 and nokia 5110 overlay to the repo device tree overlay

Lately, I started writing a few articles on the OrangePi Zero, as I am trying to use it as part of a conference recording tool and to reference what I know about this board on the OrangePi Community docs website. Of course, I have to show my command lines, and their results. I used to post my commands on gist, then use Carbon to generate an image with the commands and their outputs… But that’s quite a lot of boring work… I then discovered asciinema and the recording that can be transformed into a GIF file thanks to asciicast2gif. It worked pretty well under Ubuntu for my previous projects, but it was not really practical to launch it, is…

Hi all. I've finished my review video about the NVIDIA Jetson Nano. I kept it simple, more videos to come on gameplay and neural network self learning. Here's the review video. I like it a lot. Does Blender great, and works well as light desktop. Loving the graphics drivers and hoping soon the other SBC's can have simular good drivers. It is close to being my favorite. Hello, I'm new here and do not quite understand the sub-forums here but hopefully this is the right one. I got an Orange pi ONE running 4.19 RT kernel with Armbian buster. I was testing out the GPIO capabilities of the H3 SoC without any libraries and got only 1.67 Mhz at best(which is ironically the same as WiringPIOP) with some task interrupt issues. #define INP_GPIO(g) *(unsigned int *)(gpio+0x04) &= ~(7 << (((g) % 10) * 3)) //I did not thoroughly check if the mapping is okay #define OUT_GPIO(g){\ *(unsigned int *)(gpio+0x04) &= ~(6 << (((g) % 8) * 4));\ *(unsigned int *)(gpio+0x0…

Hi there, I have a RockPi 4b running Arabian with Ubuntu bionic. I mainly use the board to contact it online over ssh/vnc/rdp to work in spyder and texmaker. Quite often the connection is slow however. Therefore I am thinking of changing the system such that i can just bring it on the road and connect it using a local network with the usbc cable outlet of the iPad and a USB port on the rockpi. The reason i would like to connect over a cable is speed and not having to use the WiFi so that both devices can still easily connect to a WiFi network for internet access. I have found many solutions where iPads are connected to raspberry pi’s. These solutions all have …

If you use a SIP Voip client on your phone or computer, you can use the sip protocol and scripting to monitor your Armbian board. I'm using Ubuntu Xenial, but other versions should work as well. I have the Linphone client on my phone and I use the free Linphone SIP service. Linphone.org hosts a free SIP service that allows users to make audio or video calls using SIP addresses via the domain sip.linphone.org. You can also send text messages. SIP requires an internet data connection, and my phone is connected via WIFI most of the time except when I'm commuting, so I set up my monitoring chron jobs on the Armbian device to run at times when…

Panfrost instructions Armbian !!!! I made a script that does all this, check a few posts later for the script !!!!! This tutorial explains how to build an Armbian image with panfrost. And what else you need to make it work. These are early drivers. Many things don't work yet. Only OpenGL 2.1 works now. You need to build an image with kernel 5.2 or later. For this you need an x86 pc with Ubuntu 18.04 or a virtual Ubuntu 18.04 x86 image. First install git, then clone the build folder from Armbian, and enter the build directory. apt-get -y -qq install git git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/armbian/build cd bu…

Hello, the Rock64 SBC can receive an add-on board with audio ports and an additional ethernet port. I have used it a lot before, with Debian Stretch. With the armbian image it does not work. The reason is simple, this board must be activated by a script which is missing. Ayufan has added a set of scripts in /usr/local/sbin, but they are not present in this build. They can be found here : https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/linux-package/blob/master/root/usr/local/sbin/enable_dtoverlay Then run the necessary command : enable_dtoverlay eth1 ethernet@ff550000 okay and the card is present in ifconfig. Once given an iP address, it works perfectly. …

Some of the boards supported by Armbian have an mpcie slot. The only one that I know of that also has a sim slot is the celarfog pro. (Correct me if I missed something) I found this little add on board that supposedly adds a sim card to an mpcie modem. Think it might work on some or which of the boards? I looked at this but I get lost in figuring out how to form the udev rules. Anyone get 4g going on Armbian on any board in the US?

Hi all. I've just finished reviewing the Khadas VIM3. It's an amazing SBC with unmatched performance. It's got the Amlogic A311D SoC. Comparable with the S922X of the Odroid N2. Hello reader I will report here about my experience to watch Netflix as written in the title. To do so, I got a current LE image from @balbes150 (thank you). You may be asking the same question as I do (did), why using the image from balbes and not the official one from the download page ? It is actually quite simple, balbes integrates the latest Kernel for his LE builds. While on a x86 system the kernel isn't so interesting, it is on ARM systems, because a lot of the development happens 1 or 2 year later of the release of the SoC. I have asked him about the different versions he offers for Le Potato: All versions…

Hi all. I've done a lot of tests with different desktop environments on Armbian. I wanted an as light as possible desktop environment so I'd have enough ram left to do video rendering with the NanoPi M4(2GB) I had to try a lot of things to get things working fine. So I wanted to save others that hassle. Setting up Display Manager First we need a Display Manager. NODM is installed by default. I tried lightdm but couldn't get it to work. So I went for LXDM. With NODM installed I had problems, so I also removed NODM. To be sure lxdm is configured right, I also manually configure it. sudo apt install lxdm sudo apt remove nodm sudo dpkg-reconfi…

I need a suggestion for a samba server (guess that is what it is called). I have an 8 TB external powered HD, and need a device that I can attach it to, so I can "see" it on the network. I had it attached to the USB 3 port on my Asus router, but it had issues, because the router did not support the 8 TB HD. I now have it connected to one of my microPCs (Tronsmart Ara X5) USB 3 ports, but I am only gettting a max of 12 MBs speed. I would like an inexpensive board that will support that drive and is easy to set up as a samba server..... thanks.

Orange Pi Zero NTP Stratum 1 PPS GPS Server with Armbian OS. Link to the Tutorial - http://schwartzel.eu3.org/ntp-stratum1.html This tutorial uses a 3.3V capable GPS module with PPS output - TOPGNSS GN-701 (u-blox 7) but other similar modules should work. This tutorial is for the Orange Pi Zero, but will probably work for other boards. I couldn't easily do a comprehensive hardware and software tutorial on this forum, so I've published it on my web server and linked from here and attached a PDF. Hi everyone, I bought this Orange Pi PC with this OV5640 5MP camera module. I've been following the other threads online for directions on getting it to work, and I'm up to the point where there exists a /dev/video0 entry, but I'm unable to use it through avafinger's cap-v4l2 program, opencv, or fswebcam. The best I can get is a black image from it. What I've done so far: Editted the [twi2] and [csi0] sections of my script.fex file, converted it back to script.bin with fex2bin sudo modprobe ov5640 sudo modprobe vfe_v4l2 this is the output of dmesg following boot, and this is the output of v4l2-ctl --all. Here'…

I pushed a template for the NanoPi NEO (2/Air/Core/Plus2) onto my github: https://github.com/Tonymac32/kicad-templates If you want to make add-ons, that's fully labelled and the header positions are as correct as I could get them without official reference. I have made a few boards with it, so can vouch that it will assemble. I'll add more as I have time and money to do so, since I don't want to push any that aren't verified in some manner.

Not much of a tutorial, but it is something that often needs some googling and head scratching. This is how I got my particular modem working, your mileage may vary. Step 1) Get a modem that will work. I got a Huawei E397u LTE/UMTS/GSM modem. It's Cricket branded, but I'm on Google Fi, it will work with my data SIM. Step 2) Plug it in and see that it doesn't work. Step 3a) apt update Step 3b) apt upgrade Step 4) Install usb-modeswitcher Step 4, optional part 2) install modem-manager, modem-manager-gui (for general playing around) Step 5) unplug/replug the USB modem, see that it should magically have a different VID:PID when …

https://www.mccdaq.com/DAQ-HAT.aspx I've reached out about whether or not they know if the software works with non-RasPi boards. I'm not dropping $99 to test it personally, if it fails then what? But, looks like a nice setup if mated with a proper board. The other option of course is to build one myself, but then it becomes a question of software, which would take far longer than the hardware itself.

Thanks to ASUS, I got my hands on one of these after seeing what appeared to be a giant heat sink fin integrated into the top of the case. This case may be of interest to non-Tinker owners as well, it is not designed like the equivalent Pi cases with a fixed aluminum stud touching the SoC. Instead it has a small aluminum block that has an adhesive side, and a thermal pad side, and is clamped down onto the processor by putting the two halves together. This allows some freedom on the location of the SoC relative to the lid. First off, same nice packaging the Tinker owners are familiar with: The case itself is quite …

Hello, everyone. I'm planning to make a "power button" on orange pi zero using GPIO pins. I'm using kernel 4.x Of course, some questions. General idea is: 1) Create the overlay with correct pin number 2) Install acpid 3) It should work. Questions: - What resistor should I use to short pin to ground ? 10K ? May other values work ? (Not sure my "scrap metal" box has exact this value) - How does overlay file look like ? I've seen some variants on the forum, but can some one point to working code ? I'm planning to use PA06 pin, as far as I understand it's a pin 7 on OpiZero 26 pin connector. - I'm already …

Hi all! I've tried Xulong Extension board for Orange Pi Zero and found it useless waste of my money. Almost two months ago I've decided to make my own hacking shield which allows me much more in terms of control and peripherals. I've tested functionality most important to me and I'm pretty happy with result. I2C works, USB power switch works, power measurement works. Project page on GitHub Now I'm in progress making peripherals accessible to the system and user. Userspace tools for python/node/C works and later I will publish tutorial (or more than one) how to make it (because it is not clear to me and take huge amount of…

Hello everybody. I'm little bit confused with this think. Which libraries are good (best) for H5 OPiZeroPlus board .? - WiringPI - ArmbianIO - GPIOzero or ..?? I have small script for timer switch, but it is not stably as well as I can. Button press is not accurate. (some pull-up/down are missing probably) Thanks for answer or suggestion. Hello everybody. I am trying to build an DIY headset from scratch and I originally planning to use some armbian OS for its SBC at its heart of the device (like an orange pi, or something maybe a bit stronger who knows - I happily accept recommendations). For the headset it is necessary to have proper opengl support with hardware rendering capabilities and also good to have video acceleration maybe so I think the legacy kernel fits the purpose best. PROBLEM: I tried to plug in the HDMI display - it does not work. Details: The display is seemingly not working when attached to the HDMI port. I see some led flashing so I think s…

@Larry Bank I happened across these again: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1pcs-White-Backlight-84-48-84x84-LCD-Display-Module-Adapter-PCB-for-Nokia-5110-for-Arduino/32267197519.html They might be used, or they might be quality rejects for actual product, I'm not sure. There are other options from the seller, I haven't gotten any yet so can't speak to the state they're in.

This falls somewhere between "how-to", "research", and "development", so I stuck it here. @adafruit is working to target CircuitPython to Armbian devices, something that will be a bit of a task. I've been playing with the code to get it working on my Tritium H3, finally did (some extra sudo-ing was needed), so I'll probably toss in a couple board definitions/help here and there if I can. it had hijacked a C2 thread (not completely, it was at least about using it on the C2), and I thought it best to continue discussion here. @chwe, @sgjava, and @Larry Bank all have various experience with various GPIO tools, their interest may vary. My current observations,…

In general we seem to get a schematic with some pin labels, not always complete, and certainly inconsistent. (Some like FriendlyElec do an amazing job, Libre Computer provides some spreadsheets, etc) Since Armbian is as much about "making it better" as it is about "making it work", I thought a good project that a lot of people could participate in is a relatively unified GPIO reference: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dJq7MM1_zA5HtXywDMZ9HMKyPaNgGmkxnuz3wYuk4s8/edit?usp=sharing I don't know that a google sheet is the best system, but it serves to illustrate my idea. Provide a consistent format so there are few que…

As a result of all the work that Armbian developers put into the upgrade to kernel 4.14 for the XU4 board family, now we can enjoy many new features. One of them is the access to the SoC video encoding capabilities. Emby Media Server can take advantage of the Exynos 5422 MFC video engine for transcoding. That means lower CPU usage, lower temperatures, and the possibility of encoding in real time higher resolutions or more simultaneous streams. In my tests, I've been able to transcode one HEVC 1080p and one 480p at the same time, or five 480p (though it will depend on the bitrate of the source material). However, the ffmpeg version shipped with offi…

There is no official sdcard image but the attached script will create a image for the OrangePi Zero/R1. It uses daily generated files from Debian daily-images and considered testing/unstable. SDcard image creation: You will need basic Linux/Debian and dosfs utils. No su/root needed. Run the script to generate sdcard image for writing to sdcard. Optionally, if you want ssh network-console access, add preseed.cfg to same directory as script. See attached preseed.cfg and example-preseed.txt . Basic installation: Once the installer is started, it runs completely in RAM and no longer needs files from the sdcard. You can delete all partitio…

Latest RK3399 arrival in the lab. And guess what: 2 x Ethernet here! A quick preliminary specifications list: RK3399 (performing identical to any other RK3399 thingy out there as long as no throttling happens) 2 GB DDR3 RAM (in April Vamrs said they will provide 1GB, 2GB and 4GB variants for $99, $129 and $149) Board size is the standard 160×120 mm 96Boards EE form factor. Access to a console can be mandatory when you SBC doesn't work as expected (e.g Network or HDMI output doesn't work). When SSH/Display access isn't possible access to console via UART is the best way to get a clue where your SBC hangs. This short tutorial should give you an introduction how this works. For some boards, armbian implements an USB gadget mode (a 'fake' serial console over microUSB) describen below. As a reminder an USB-UART bridge is always prefered over USB gadget mode whenever possible (UART get's initialized before the gadget driver and also before HDMI, means even if you don't get a proper output from HDMI or gadget mode console, it is possible that UART…

This is some more research based on prior efforts. The goal is to make more efficient use of available RAM. If the system runs low on memory only two options are possible: either the kernel invokes the oom-killer to quit tasks to free memory (oom --> out of memory) or starting to swap. Swap is a problem if it happens on slow media. 'Slow' media usually describes the situation on SBC. 'Average' SD cards (not A1 rated) are slow as hell when it's about random IO performance. So swapping is usually something that should be avoided. But... technology improves over time. In Linux we're able to swap not only to physical storage but since a …

*** This is educational material only concerning current limits and their effects on things like rise and fall times, and how they can theoretically impact SD cards. The correlation with reality is purely theoretical and has not been empirically proven, the concept is correct but any specific values may be/ probably are off by some factor*** A lot of boards from various vendors inevitably have some difficulties with electrical signalling. You see it in delay values, phase correction in software, etc. The general prevailing theory is almost always "get it close and fix it in software". But, the software team is not always clued in, or the physical reality i…

I've been doing some tests with NanoPi M4 these days. While I'm not a professional board reviewer, here I can share some early performance numbers to you. Beware that none of these tests fit into real world use cases, they are just provided as-is. Besides, Armbian development on RK3399 boards are still at a very early stage, so any of these numbers may change in the future, due to software changes. Unless mentioned, all tests are done using Armbian nightly image, FriendlyARM 4.4 kernel, CPU clocked at 2.0/1.5GHz Powering NanoPi M4 is my first board powered by USB-C, while RK3399 is not power-hungry under normal load, I do doubt if 5V/3A power supply …

With this commit I added 7-zip benchmark reporting to Armbian now. Will be available after next updates and with next batch of new images. Why not recommending to just do an 'apt install p7zip ; 7zr b'? Since 'fire and forget' benchmarking is always BS. You need some monitoring in parallel to know whether your system was really idle and at which clockspeeds the CPU cores were operating (throttling occuring or not?). Most recent 7-zip contains an own routine to 'pre-heat' the system prior to starting the benchmark (to let cpufreq scaling switch from low clockspeeds to highest ones and e.g. on Intel systems let the system enter TurboBoost modes). Th…

(disclaimer) No itention to make a Frankendebian (https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian) but ubuntu package "zram-config" works perfectly. This little and inexpensive ($35) board is fully compatible to discontinued NanoPi M3. From a software point of view both boards are identical (though Wi-Fi is missing on the Fire3) and as such identical OS images can be used for both boards. The good news: compared to the last time I looked at the M3 kernel support has improved a lot. Back then we had to run a smelly 3.4.39 (32-bit only) while we can now run mainline on it. I gave it a try using our Armbian Stretch nightly running with 4.14.40 (full armbianmonitor -u output) and did a couple of tests. The Samsung/Nexell S5P6818 SoC consists of 8 A53 cores running at up to 1.4GHz with default settings (can be …

Hi All, I am trying to use a 4x4 matrix keypad on Orange pi GPIO ,I am connecting the keypad with 8 GPIO's 4 GPIOs for rows, 4 for coloumns ,the problem I am facing is when I try to test the keypad few keys are read only on repeated attempts or pressing. The following is my code. Is this because of Hardware debouncing?. I don't have much knowledge on debouncing. I suspect there is a delay happening in reading and writing GPIOs , because of user process scheduling can be delayed. I don't think accesing GPIO at faster rate is not possible from user application. Please suggest me the best approach. Please suggest me where I am doing wrong. I appreciate any help…

This tutorial has been made with an Orange PI PC running on "Armbian_5.35_Orangepipc_Debian_jessie_default_3.4.113.img". With this example you will be able to launch 3 different scripts for each push button : /usr/local/bin/run<Wpi GPIO number>short.sh -> immediately launched when a button is pressed /usr/local/bin/run<Wpi GPIO number>long.sh -> launched after a long pression /usr/local/bin/run<Wpi GPIO number>release.sh -> launched when a button is released (but not after a long pression) …

UPDATE: You'll find a preliminary performance overview at the end of the thread. Click here. This is NOT an ODROID N1 review since it's way too early for this and the following will focus on just a very small amount of use cases the board might be used for: server stuff and everything that focuses on network, IO and internal limitations. If you want the hype instead better join Hardkernel's vendor community over there: https://forum.odroid.com/viewforum.php?f=148 All numbers you find below are PRELIMINARY since it's way too early to benchmark this board. This is just the try to get some baseline numbers to better understand for which use cas…

Hi there, this very short tutorial is a solution when you need to backup/clone/save as small *.img file as possible of your whole fully bootable system (e.g. you have 8GB card but you want to make smaller system image for 2GB card). And another reason why I created this tutorial - I need to burn the same image to many microsd cards. I am using Windows (yup, hate me know) and Debian in these steps: Put your microsd card to Windows machine and make image of card with Win32diskimager. If your card is e.g. 8GB, you get *.img file with the same size (my name backup.img). Now in linux maxine (in my case Debian virtual machine) we are going to work with…

The above thing is a $10 accessory that can be ordered together with ROCK64 (and maybe other Pine Inc. devices like Pine64 or Pinebook?). It's an USB-to-SATA bridge (JMicron JMS578 based) to be used together with 2.5" SSD/HDD or 3.5" HDD. For the latter purpose it's equipped with a separate power jack suitable for the usual 12V 5.5/2.1mm power barrels (centre positive) you find PSUs with literally everywhere. TL;DR: If you want to add storage to your ROCK64 order this cable too. It works great with both 2.5" and 3.5" disks and it's somewhat sad it's not available separately since it's a great storage companion for many other devices too. Basics fir…

ODROID HC1 Mini Review ODROID XU4 is one of the most powerful boards Armbian supports (due to being a big.LITTLE design with 4 x A15@2GHz and 4 x A7@1.4GHz). Though the SoC is a bit old performance is still impressive, the SoC features 2 independent USB3 ports (on XU3/XU4 one is connected to an USB Gigabit Ethernet chip, the other to an internal USB3 hub providing 2 USB3 receptacles) but in the past many users had troubles with USB3 due to cable/connector problems (the USB3-A receptacle specification/design is a total fail IMO, unfortunately we've still not USB-C everywhere) underpowering problems with Hardkernel's Cloudshell 1 or XU4 powere…

The above is a so called 'Banana Pi M2 Berry' I bought yesterday and will return today to get my money back (due to 'Irreführende Werbung' / false advertising) showing most probably the use case this device will be bought by clueless people: To connect a SATA 2.5" disk to it since 'native SATA'. Of course this doesn't work as expected since the board's power design is an absolute fail. The manufacturer already knows what a shit show using Micro USB for DC-IN is. I simply used the same average USB cable I used to demonstrate the problem a few years ago with the original Banana Pi. With an average USB cable the disk does not even spin up but only produces ugly n…

Now that there are an increasing number of boards running in 64 bit mode (Aarch64) it might happen that you want/need to run a 32 bit application on a 64 bit OS. I suspect that there is more than one way to do this, but here's what I've been using: dpkg --add-architecture armhf apt-get update apt-get install libc6:armhf libstdc++6:armhf Some applications need the following step to run: cd /lib ln -s arm-linux-gnueabihf/ld-2.23.so ld-linux.so.3 There is a downside to this approach - after adding armhf you have to be careful when installing new packages that you get the right version and don't end up installing 32bit packages that you don't need.

It's simple guide, presenting how to setup LCD (ili9431) with integrated touchscreen (tsc2046) on mainline kernel (4.11). It may be not fully "armbian way", since I'm pretty new in armbian In case that somebody is interested, I recently bought couple those displays from here Few basic informations: 1. OrangePiZero has two SPI buses. First one is usually occupied by build in memory. So we can only use bus1 2. tsc2046 chip is fully compatible with ads7846, and we have drivers for it since years now 3. Maximum clock frequency for ads7846 is 3.25Mhz, but don't expect that it will work with that. Reasonable value is something beet…

[update 12/2017 at bottom] Possibly late, but I would like to put everything we know in one place for anyone who might think of buying this board. Overview: This is a form factor and (mostly) I/O clone of the Raspberry Pi 3 with a much more powerful quad-core Cortex-A17 Rockchip rk3288. It supports HDMI 2.0, has 2 GB RAM, Gigabit Ethernet, Wifi and BT on board, etc: https://www.asus.com/us/Single-Board-Computer/Tinker-Board/ As numerous other sites have covered all the typical performance metrics and extolled the power and so forth of this board, I'm going to go ahead and give you the less exciting information a…

For those of you who are interested in using a OPI zero as a small IoT-Server. I have some hints to get it working. It's more or less a lmgtfy How To plus some arduino code to test if it works. Hardware: OrangePi 0 with Armbian 5.25 connected over lan to my router DHT11 Module on a Wemos D1 mini (a small cheap wlan MCU for ~3$ which can be programmed via the Arduino IDE) Installation: First of all we install node-red on the OPI. Instead of rewrite how to do that again I just give you the link who to do that: Node-Red on armbian Second we install Mosquitto as a mqtt broker. If I have it right in mind I followed this instructable (I'm not shure…

Hi All, I recently bought a cheap 16 character, 2 row LCD display from aliexpress.com for use with my Orange Pi PC. I got it to work without too much pain, but I thought I would document it here for the benefit of others. Some good instructions are already available on the internet, but there are some tweaks required for the Orange PI. Armbian I believe already has the I2C module compiled into the kernel directly. So no Linux Kernal insmod work required, unlike what many Raspberry PI guides seem to imply. Step 1) Buy the things you will need. 1. You obviously need a 1602 LCD module which also comes with the the I2C converter…

Full root filesystem encryption on an Armbian/Orange Pi PC 2 system MMGen (https://github.com/mmgen) WARNING: This tutorial has been obsoleted by Full root filesystem encryption on an Armbian system. In addition, an automated script is available, which can be downloaded here or by cloning the following repository: git clone https://github.com/mmgen/mmgen-geek-tools This tutorial provides detailed, step-by-step instructions for setting up full root filesystem encryption on an Armbian/Orange Pi PC2 system. With minor changes, it can be adapted to other Armbian-supported boards. The disk is unlocked remotely via ssh, permitting unattended …
