The past few weeks I did see a lot of anger and frustration on this forum. Key contributors of the forum (.. Armbian developers) seem to struggle with the level of their audience. People ask for functionality which is not around because of bad hardware, people aspect certain things from Armbian which are not possible, people expect “out of the box” solutions, no feedback from users, etc., etc. I personally think this is getting more and more a problem. The risk is that key Armbian developers get frustrated and not motivated to continue their absolute fantastic contribution to the development of “THE NUMBER ONE OS” for SoC Arm boards! I think it is best t…

Well, it's gotten to the point where I'm dedicating a PC to this, using the VM is only so useful. Any recommendations on tools (Git gui's, specific code editors, etc?) A lot of this stuff I already have ideas/"go-to"s, but I'd like some new ideas/recommendations. And I think it would help out others to know.

Hello! I want to replace my old "Server" (Pi 1B) with something more powerfull. In the same move, I want to use my server to do a lot more things than it does now. To be future-proof I would like my server to have GbE and 2 GB RAM. I would also love internal storage that I am able to do software RAID 1 with my SD-Card for security (Could I also use an simple USB-Stick instead of onboard flash?). Also I want to have a Home-NAS for Backups. (SATA; GbE) I am wondering if I should combine the two into one ... in this case, the Server-OS would be backed up probably on my workstation. Why using two devices if I could use one ... It would have lots of m…

Tinkering with API's is fun. Always wanted to allocate the scripts and tools made over time and allow quick access to the data they can provide. Never liked the idea of leaving a power hungry Desktop running to have access to it and am too paranoid to leave any SBC (FTP/WebServer) connected to the World Wild West for too long. As seen with the Mirai Botnet/DYN attacks. So my answer was to have something low power (SBC and armbian) that was at least 'secure enough' for me to let it interface with the world. So this was made: https://github.com/BiTinerary/PersonalAPI In a nutshell this is how it works: Scripts on an OPi Zero that make API calls, scrape web da…

I'm running Openwrt CC on orange pi zero, I use it as a router with its built-in wifi. When I transfer files from my computer to the opiz, I get 1MBps of transfer speed, is this normal ? Is it possible to increase the transfer speed by using an external USB wifi ? On my android phone it gets even worse, even loading pictures from the opiz through ES File Manager lags a lot.

I would like to create an ubuntu desktop image for a rk3066-based dongle (measy u2a). Is there anything in this website where start from? Or something ready-to-try? Will the docs here be helpful? I managed to run armbian on a measy u1a (which has a Allwinner A10) by simply flashing sdcard with an image (Lime A10) found here, I would like to do the same with rk3066. Thanks, Antonio

Hello guys, I hope, I picked the right section. I'm looking for a most suitable SBC for DVB-T2 decoding. Here in Germany is DVB-T dead, so the successor DVB-T2 is there. BUT, the codec here is H.265 and not H.264... So, my idea is to use an PCTV tripleStick 292e, which is supported by LinuxTV sind kernel version 3.16. This stick is able to decode H.264 in hardware. So, to decode H.265 I need a SoC which is supporting H.265 in hardware. The suitable SoC are i.e. Amlogic S905 (Odroid C2) and RK3266 (Asus Tinker). Which SBC would you take for it? I would like to use mainline kernel, if it's possible. Wha…

@tkaiser I'm looking for advice, I'm looking to use a single board computer of some sorts, to run a lightweight linux distro as a watered-down PC. Standard things like Webbrowsing, Netflix (Youtube, etc...), LibreOffice, etc.. can run on. Additionally I've seen some interesting videos of people running Python and I don't really understand the limitations of these boards. Are one of these boards equivalent to a circa 2000 PC? circa 2005? circa 1990s? Ideally I'd like to run a small standalone PC for day to day tasks and maybe some basic python or other coding environments. There's TON's of info online..which I've tried to go through myself, but again there TONs of info on…

I have a NAS which can support iSCSI, NFS, or NBD. I have several years of experience using iSCSI on x86, but I was wondering if anyone is using it on these ARM boards. I'm also looking at NBD, because it is supposedly lower overhead than iSCSI. Is anyone currently using NBD on their SBC? I've heard NBD doesn't handle connectivity issues as well as iSCSI, so it's not wise to use for data you care about. However, providers such as Scaleway are using NBD as the rootfs for their ARM servers (not saying this is good or bad, just saying it). I am thinking specifically of having the SBC be the client, not the server. However anyone who can pr…

Hi, I am working on a project based on raspberry pi and sensors, I am using sensors to get data and I am using an ADS1115(datasheet) ADC to convert sensor analog data to digital. I am concerned about the ESD for raspberry pi so i have used a metal case for this project. Also, I am using a MEANWELL Net 35-b power supply . Question: I read on a blog that the simplest way to have ESD protection is to use a metal case and connect the metal case to the ground of the power supply also ground of raspberry pi and power supply are connected. Is this the correct way to protect circuit and raspberry pi?

I think Xunlong should be able to make a Orange Pi Zero with 512MB RAM and Gigabit ethernet for around $10. If they did, would you buy it? Do you think it would be a good product? The H2/H3/H5 is capable of gigabit ethernet, they just need an external ethernet chip that costs about $1. If you think about it. To go from an Orange Pi PC which has 1GB RAM @ $15, to an Orange Pi 2E with 2GB RAM $35, thats more than double the cost to double the RAM. But if you go from an Orange Pi Zero with 100Mbit ethernet at $9 to 1000Mbit ethernet at $10, that's only a 0.1X increase in cost for a 10X increase in performance. That means you get about 10.5x more value for mon…

I'm using an eBay packaged Debian 6 MySQL server that is on an OPi PC v1.2 (at least that's what's printed on the board). I am building a database for my app. Just discovered "Browse Network" on the File Manager app and was pleasetly surprised to see "WORKGROUP" appear, which is my (otherwise) Wintel home network. That network has an NAS, but dble-clicking the WG resulted in the attached popup "Failed to open "WORKGROUP". My Linux Bible suggested commands showmount, ftp, lftp and findsmb, none of which, apparently, are installed on my OPi Suggestions, please. Gene

Hello guys and girls, I'm new around here, looking for a board to power my network storage needs. Up until now I've been running a 2TB USB3 Seagate Expansion connected to a ASUS AC68U router and things were just fine until free space started to be a problem. Recently I "inherited" a 2TB USB 2 Seagate Expansion which I was thinking of putting to good use. Some other 2.5" SATA HDD's might come my way in the future so I was thinking of taking a stone of the router and building a small NAS. The main usage will be SMB served sequential operations involving video files (daily) and occasional backups. The current numbers stay around 25-30 MB/s writ…

I've liked the idea of having a little message board that was off the www and only accessible with wireless devices from the neighbors. It would be fine if the wireless were handled by a router and then use an adapter from Gigabit-to-USB port on an H3 device. I was wondering if anyone's tried that or has a favorite home cloud they'd recommend? There are various turnkey LAMP servers that could be installed to Armbian but it's a jungle out there. Messaging, message board, file sharing (or at least a repository), and maybe some kind of camera sharing. The camera sharing is because this is sometimes a dangerous neighborhood, and it'd be a big luxury if one neig…

I have an orange pi plus 2e running 24/7 as a file server, torrent box, plex server, pi-hole etc. It has been running fine for the first few months I have gotten it. Recently the usb HDD that is connected to it started disconnecting often during heavy loads ( downloading torrents) or sometimes randomly. I assumed that it was the usb power adapter fault ( I used a samsung 5a 2v power adapter ) and I replaced it with an identical one. However the problem still persist. Could it be the usb to barrel plug cable that is sold from aliexpress be at fault?

After talking about "the crazy idea" of use of this boards like light desktops in other thread with @JoeyBeelinkX2 : I start reading about ways to improve the performance. Hello, I hope this is the right place to ask .I have worried a few days.Don't know whether it is appropriate to ask here. I am using the LM95071 in a simple application to measure ambient temperature of our product. The normal temperature range is approx 15degC through to 50degC. In general the part is working well, however intermittently I will read a value of -22degC. The spurious values occur around once every 100-200k reads. Typically a valid read should be 0x0eab, however I am occasionally getting spurious values of 0x0f4b3, 0x0f4a7, 0x0f4a3 or 0x0f4b7 I am reading the LM95071 every 4ms, which is much faster than its conversion time, however t…

Hello! Use case is mostly about turning the kitchen TV into a kitchen PC, with main purpose displaying some market charts while I'm cooking (doing this on a phone is a pain in the eyes). Someone might try eventually to browse facebooks or download movies on that TV, but that's not important. Software displaying such charts available for Linux and ARM is mostly Java platforms (I believe Java is architecture-independent, the applications at least, but I might be wrong), using 300-800 MB RAM and 10-30% on a low-end x86 CPU. The Orange Pi+ 2E seems like the best thing for such hobo desktop purpose, mostly because people's support for it, but the H5 SoC advertis…

During development I use snapshot images of sdcard and usb flash disk (nand-sata-install'ed). Unfortunately, the size of common flash/sdcards do start at 16GB nowadays. When I use Win32 Disk Imager, the backups are 2 * 16 GB. I can compress them on PC's disk but in and case writing them back to other sdcards/flash disks take ages. This is because it is a full image, although, say, something like 1 GB on each are used. If there a way to make bootable images which includes only the used parts of the sdcard/flash and be able to write them back?

A Beelink X2 by default boots into Android with KODI and can be interrupted to instead boot into Armbian off an SD card. It might be quite advantageous to use a microSD card to jump start Armbian installed on a USB stick plugged in. Cost is one reason: the TF cards cost what the Beelink does, and lots of us have lots of premium USB sticks at less than half the price. This way it could be easier to experiment and even have a personal USB stick for friends and family. When it comes to family media this would help everyone. Myself I'd try various home clouds and server schemes, and whatever wins, just run that from the TF slot later on. Plus if you …

Hi, Is there any plan fro Armbian to support Rockchip processors like RK3288 or RK3399? Any guide on how to port Armbian on them? These processors have official support on GPU (both openCL and openGL ES), HW video codec (like H264 encoding and decoding with gstream), and also open-sourced Kernel 4.4.x. And most important thing is they are willing to support opensource community and fix their bugs continuously. I've got a RK3288 proto board which was able to run Linux 4.4 + Debian with HW accelerated desktop and video playing, and it worked perfect. The only thing that troubled me is the Debian system that maintained by Rockchip is suck.…

I am using an ATX SMPS to power my Orange Pi Plus 2 via 5V supply. It worked fine for a couple of days without problem until yesterday. I happend to connect my audio amplifier TPA3116 which worked fine. After which when i was switching some cables i happend to short the 12V supply. The smps immediately shut itself down. Now i removed the short and disconnect the audio amplifier from 12V supply. After this when i started the orange pi there was no more any indication. I wanted to know that if the 12V short let to an inrush current spike at the 5V power section. If any one on this forum is aware of fuses present on the orange pi board.

I have been searching the net for a display similar to this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Orange-Pi-7-inch-LVDS-LCD-Module-7-Touch-Screen-F-Raspberry-Pi-Car-GPS/1553371_32315435767.html . Unfortunately the original from the link is not available anymore and I am unable to find a good replacement. Does anyone have a good alternative they are using? Size wise a 7" or 10" (or even up to 12" :-) ) will do the job.. Thanks!

Hi devs, i'm looking for informations about the needed certifications to be able to sell a board in EU (with enclosure). I know that many board have ce/fcc certifications, and others not, but the question is: 1) when i compose the product with an hypothetical fcc/ce board + an enclosure (let's suppose an fcc/ce enclosure, if it exists) + other CE/FCC modules i need to obtain a new certification!!?? 2) there are enclosure fcc/ce approved for orange pi (or if not) for some boards? 3) is the orangepi fcc/ce certified (seems no...), expecially the zero? 4) if is mandatory that the board and the enclosure must be certified together, the…

I made a funny project for trying to use the ARM single board as the USB disk or cdrom. I did a lot of optimizations for the size and speed. Releases: https://github.com/usboot/USBootPi/releases USBootPi supports NanoPi M1. It also supports OrangePi One/PC but we need more USB cables(one for power, another one for OTG). Sorry, there is no the English readme now.

(I am running Ubuntu Core QT-Embedded on a nanoPi Neo using this network adapter)The first time I used the network adapter it worked perfectly. I saw the adapter when I typed ifconfig -a and it connected to my network when I typed the following commands: ifdown wlan0 ifup wlan0Then I unplugged the power supply and plugged it back in and now it doesn't work or show up on ifconfig -a. I tested it out on my Windows machine and the adapter works fine, and when I type lsusb I can see a network adapter so I'm very confused. How can I resolve this issue?

Hi there! First of all thanks for all the great work that you do here! I did a fresh install of the latest nightly (5.26.170227) and I can't mount usb sotrage devices or acces their content. The OPiZero detects the device but it doens't mount it. I can see the device by running sudo fdisk -l However if I try to mount it manually I get this error: sudo mount /dev/sda /media/usb mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so. I've tried with three devices and none of them work with the OP…

Hi, I am trying to accommodate a SIM800 GSM module using UART3 of OP Lite. For the beginning, just to send a SMS and later on a MMS with a photo taken from gc2035 camera. This is a source that I made for arduino which works: Serial.print("AT+CMGS="); Serial.print(char(34)); //before and after phone nr a char (") must be sent Serial.print(Phone_nr); Serial.println(char(34)); delay(100); Serial.print(message); delay(100); Serial.println(char(26)); //end of message char I have set FEX for the UART3 but now I am struggling to start this using system commands, such as: echo "AT+CMGS=\r\n" /dev/…

Hi there, I was wondering how to get the audio running on the NanoPI NEO. It has line-out PINs and I read the H3 has SPDIF which should be the correct output. So I found this post: https://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/1891-spdif-output-on-nanopi-m1/and changed my fex . Anyway, that seems to be for the older kernel. What exactly do I need for version 4+? I am using Gentoo and the sources from https://github.com/megous/linux . The modules seem to be different and that's what I got right now: sun4i_i2s 6408 0 sun4i_codec 12657 0 sun4i_spdif 5087 0 snd_soc_core 132869 3 sun4i_codec,sun4i_i2s,sun4i_s…

Hi all, I've been working on a project in educational technology for some time now, and it's been about three months since I started looking into arm-linux and Armbian. About me Goal: sub-$100 computers with 11"or better display. Modular, easy to repair. Successor to OLPC. We will do it better. Backstory: I was with an NGO teaching English and Maths to underprivileged kids in North-East India, and I found that progress was startlingly slow. We were able to spend only two hours a week with these kids, and it was simply not enough. I was aware at the time of apps like Duolingo which were extremely effective due to fact that the student can self-learn on theit OWN TIM…

Hi, I'm planning on buying Orange Pi Zero and before I do that, I want to make sure I won't regret anything after buying it. I'm planning on using the pi zero as a wireless router with its built-in wifi, but I read on some posts that the driver XR819 itself has some issues, like heating up the board or high ping. So please suggest me which distro I should use for the pi zero that has no wifi issues. Thank you.

Hi Experts, We are using Armbian with Orange Pi zero. Image works fine. We do not have battery in our system and power goes off frequently in India. Sometime when Orange Pi zero is switched off and switched on again, its image gets corrupted and only way to recover is to reflash the card which will not be possible if we send product for field testing. When image is corrupted we see following logs 35152 bytes read in 501 ms (68.4 KiB/s) ## Loading init Ramdisk from Legacy Image at 43300000 ... I am looking for enclosures (cases) to mount Orange Pi boards in. I have the original enclosures, but they do not have any space for additional boards / wiring etc. And there is no way to mount the enclosure... I am wondering what other people use to mount the boards. If there are no enclosures available for OPi boards, maybe there are some available for other boards. I am not interested in Raspberry enclosures since I don't want to use RPis .

Hi again, For a dedicated digital audio system (squeezebox) I would like to set up my Pine64 board with a preemptible kernel. I have been trying to use the procedure from https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/ to build a patched 3.10.104 kernel using the RT patch from: https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/rt/3.10/ patch-3.10.104-rt117 patch set The patches are applied successfully by the script, but break a number of things so the kernel doesn't compile. A number of the problems are linked to ip tunnelling, which I simply removed from the config as my system won't need them, but now I'm hitting: MO…

What if there was a pay per use ($5 to $10) build server for building a custom armbian image, including the ability to select: which distro which kernel which kernel modules a choice of server, desktop and server with qtEmbedded (for single UI devices with no windowing) a selection of common software packages (VLC, OpenCV) to be cross compiled the ability to upload an image and cross compile new software against it It could be a web based UI calling the armbian build script, with the best toolchain already installed, and dependencies set to be pulled i automatically (so hard to set up on a case to case basis). Just an idea I had, and it could be a nice new revenue…

With Debian LTS, updates at least every week. Signatures don't work Stupid, childish pictures for idiots, called captchas are not shown security (!) checks can't be used. No administors can be reached because of github. Never. neve again answer this, I can't be reached in this forum. I can be reached by gleam@i2pmail.org being much more secure than all zhe securitythingies in this forum. Well, I do have a question armbianspecific: When will gnuit be made working for armbian? Oh and another one: Sinfo doesn't show the frequency of the CPU - to be made working. Why can't emails be sent to operators to be inserted in forum? Bye.

Hello, I wanted to "build" some kind of Libre Safebox and Libre Router (meaning as libre as possible, of course in this case). I searched around but I still didn't find anything really fully assembled (a part for the Project Turris router, but I was hoping in something more versatile, that isn't necessarily restricted to being a router), so I decide to, if possible, find/assemble a more custom solution by myself. It doesn't have to be anything particularly performing, just that it can handle 720p videos and resolutions smoothly enough, that it can be used to surf the internet even with several open tabs and maybe some basic office things. The most important thing is that…

I wonder how the community would react to an addition to the existing version of the images with XFCE DE , new version with Mate DE. Or other variants. The issue arose due to the fact that collecting different images and often get from users are requests for different options that vary from the norm in the community Armbian variant of DE (ICEWM KDE LXDE LXQT etc). I tried to add a test version with a Mate. Got to add the Assembly of images with alternative DE without prejudice to the basic variant (XFCE).

hi all Wanna know whats the best option for a NAS and torrentbox. I have a 200/200 connection, so something that can handle that, with lower consumption, and that can handle a lot torrent/connections Thanks.

I want to turn my Banana PI into a NAS. Since SSDs are still too small (or much too expensive for my purpose) I need to use a standard 3,5 HD and those will need that much power (on spin-on at least) that I can't use the Banana SATA to power up the HD, right? Can those people that use banana pi et al. as NAS tell me what kind of external power supply they use with what type of connector? If you can recommend low-power HDs I'd like to hear that too. Are there power supplys that can safely feed the Banana pi itself and the HD? Preferably without soldering the connectors?
