Hello dear experts at Armbian well the mysql_connect_error-script is a great help: It returns a string description of the last connect error ( see more infos here: https://www.php.net/manual/en/mysqli.connect-error.php ). The mysqli_connect_error() function returns the error description from the last connection error, if there is any error-note. the return value are the following ones: a. A string that describes the error. b. an empty string if no error occurred. at least this goes for the Version: PHP 5, PHP 7 well - if we run the code below we can get the info bout the option to connect to the db. What if we run this as a …

Hello everybody, I am new to this forum, and stumbled upon Armbian while looking for OS options for the NanoPi M4 board. Great work! The board is running well now, but I do have a few questions: Armbian is WIP, but as NicoD says it's actually very stable. Any idea when it's going to "supported" officially? I did have an issue with the 4.4 kernel, which I worked around. How is your experience with more recent kernels, is it advisable to upgrade? Or will the official image be upgraded from the LibreElec kernel? (Compiling a kernel still seems a little bit daunting to me, although I did it on x86 chips years ago). What timeframe i…

Hi, is there a way to automate how the nand-sata-install works - for example, if my image is on an SD card and I want to flash my emmc card on boot - can that be automated somehow? I tried looking at the documentation, but no luck. Thank you!

od day dear all, i _2019_06_05_Verses_for_google_calendar.ods!? see the differnt formats - in calc- and in a printed sheme.... or in other words - ready to print. question how to arrange to port to the google-calendar!? i guess that i need to make sure that the Start Date column is formatted MM/dd/yyyy. Since i only need all day events i guess that i'll just need a, Start Date column, not the End Date or Time columns. I'm not sure if i need to work over the multiple "Description" columns though... guess that i have to merge them into a single column I suppose. well it does not work at all

Just a quick note to help other users that may have the same problem: Recently I've added the 2 USB expansion board to my Orange Pi Zero running Armbian. As the new USB ports did not get listed by lsusb, I've looked into /boot/armbianEnv.txt: It started with samba configuration (?) and a bunch of NUL characters (!). I assume it was corrupted by some wrong power outage. Anyway, recovering the armbianEnv.txt file from original armbian image solved the issue. For reference, this is my current WORKING armbianEnv.txt file contents: verbosity=1 logo=disabled console=both disp_mode=1920x1080p60 overlay_prefix…

Just thought I would introduce myself and start on my 5 approved posts requirements. ETAPrime is the reason I found out about this project and it's something I'd like to help out with when/where I can. I currently have a few Raspberry Pi 3 B and 3 B+. I also have two Libre ROC-RK3399-PC that I'm looking forward to future support on with the community. I also enjoy gaming and 3D printing as my other hobbies. Ask me anything? I guess?

So the question is "why does disconnecting and reconnecting power cause a shutdown SBC to boot?" If I have an SBC and I shut it down (e.g. using "shutdown now") then it enters an inactive state. However, I haven't done anything with the power supply - the board is still powered. So what changes in the state of the board as a result of cycling the power? If nothing changed then it would continue in the same inactive state as before? But instead, it boots up when power is restored. I'm guessing the answer varies by board. On the Raspberry Pi it seems that on doing a shutdown the shutdown process writes a volatile magic number that can be read by the …

I am currently trying to set up the PICAN GPS+ACC Rev B on my NanoPi M4 in order to receive CAN connections. I have previously set this up on a Raspberry Pi with no issues, but because the NanoPi does not have /boot/config.txt and /boot/cmdline.txt I am at a loss at how to set up the module. Any information as to how I can go about using the module on the NanoPi would be much appreciated. hello dear experts Where would you recommend me to store the Keepass-file? Well - for most of the use-cases usually i have all my personal documents in my cloud account. The pro: i can access it from everywhere in the world. With any device. But besides that i am not so sure if this is safe. Especially if it comes to such things like keepass: Some friends mentioned that it is not so safe: Question; would it be safe to use the cloud for the keepass-file? Can i secure it even further, by adding another (extra) layer of security by encrypting the file. the generalized question is this: How safe is it to store the keepass-file in the (wrong pla…

Original Article: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/linux-kernel-prior-to-508-vulnerable-to-remote-code-execution/ Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/bo6n2j/linux_kernel_prior_to_508_vulnerable_to_remote/ What does it mean for Armbian? I was just going to build a custom image for btrfs rootfs since I failed to get my SBCs with U-Boot to boot with it with an existing install for some reason even after moving /boot to an seperate etx4 partition ... OT: I really hate U-Boot and it's documentation, especially on the EspressoBin.

I am looking to replace 3 OrangePi boards with a H3 CPU with one board. Every board has a RTL-SDR USB stick attached to it, and the software tends to load up the CPU a lot on at least one core, in some cases the total load is high on 2 cores. To make it all easier / simpler I would like to replace the 3 with one board with enough processing power, but nothing extreme. The goal is that it will be in an enclosure up the antenna mast, POE fed, so not easily accessible! I even looked at the Atomic Pi, but I am not so sure about processing power in that unit.. (I might be wrong though!) Browsing the options online, I saw the NanoPi M4 which looks like a good candid…

with the armiban-build-system I did build some dev-images. Sometimes I see in other threads, that later build images have newer kernel or package versions. While trying apt update && apt upgrade I didnt get these newer packages So my first try was to use the armbian-build-system and do use the function for creating u-boot and kernel that will give me some .debs in ./build/output/debs/ like this: linux-u-boot-dev-nanopineo2_5.82_arm64.deb linux-dtb-dev-sunxi64_5.82_arm64.deb linux-image-dev-sunxi64_5.82_arm64.deb linux-headers-dev-sunxi64_5.82_arm64.deb linux-source-dev-sunxi64_5.82_all.deb install these (mostly I didnt do…

I've been travelling a lot lately for work (IT conferences). I don't brag. Don't get me wrong, I like meeting new people, sharing about technology, but the "travel" part of this travels is the worst for me. And having to use the bad hotel wifi without any protection is not my cup of tea... Working with my phone's 4G tethering is cool, but I feel "naked" anyway... And it does not solve my other devices connection problem. I was almost ready the other day to get a 4G/Wifi travel router to solve it, but as I tend to use SBCs for just about everything, I was wondering if I could make one my travel router, giving me WIFI through a VPN on top of Armbian. It would use free w…

I'm only just getting started with this project. So far I have gotten a lot of help from some great people and looking to get further along with this project as time goes on. My main goal is to turn the tinkerboard into a linuxcnc control system with a drop in SDcard/EMMC image(s). The images will be preloaded with everything needed to setup a cnc machine for different control systems such as GPIO, ETHERNET, SPI depending on one's choice or needs for control. The gpio will provide direct step/dir, end stops, router power control signals, etc.... the normal cnc machine control logic one would expect when using a parallel port. Hi all! I'm happily using Armbian on Cubieboard2 working as home server (samba, 4(!) LXC containers with Deluge, tor, owncloud and some other small apps) + VPN client. Pretty happy with it, especially for internal SATA. Recently found that Cubietech releases Cubieboard6 on S-500 CPU with same form-factor and SATA. That means, that all casing/housing can stay intact. LXC containers also can be migrated since CPU is still ARMv7. But at the same time found somewhere on this forum, that board is not really good quality... Cannot argue or agree with this since I don't have a board and it looks costly. So my question - what is advis…

Hi all. Since I wanted a 3D intro for my Youtube Channel I started working with Blender again. Now the intro is finished I've got time to try to make a 3D Armbian Logo. Spoiler I'll show some of the progress here for those who are interested. And if anybody else wants to do the same, go ahead. We can then compare the results. I've only just begun. But I needed a break so I started writing this. Here's how it begins... create a side view ... Then put those pictures in Blender, add a cube, position it right on both pictures, and start modeling.... All done with the NanoPi M4 on Armbian Bionic. …

I own Chuwi Hi12 tablet based on Atom X5-Z8300 which was a bad guy due to keyboard/overall handling. I've successfully got rid of windows & android from eMMC and installed Ubuntu Server x64 So I decided get rid of some components as touchscreen, speakers, cameras, battery and use it as SBC headless server. Sadly ribbon cables were glued and I damaged one or two of them, so this is one-way trip now I think. But I can't power it on now :/ There is no reaction to power button at all. CNX software gave me the heads up on it, https://www.friendlyarm.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=244 More or less looks like a Duo with the following adjustments: 256 --> 512 MB RAM base H2+ --> H3 (uncertain why this matters on a DIP package) Garbage Wifi --> AP6212 Other than WiFi I'm not sure I see a huge reason to go for one over the other. If you're building around a dual-inline package, multimedia is probably low on priorities. On the bright side, supporting this should be trivial if there's a demand, it should more or less only require a device tree for the wifi.

I have an OrangePi Prime with 2 GB RAM. I'm running a server-like node.js app that does constant writes to .json files and text log files. Let's call it "database storage". The app is not otherwise RAM intensive, can run fine on 512 MB boards. I'm thinking of putting all my RAM to use and move the database storage to a RAM disk made with Zram. Do you see any potential problems and interference with the way Zram is configured for this board?

HI , there I have a system on emmc protected by overlayroot. Sensitive data are written to sd card. Everything works as expected. The question is: Is there a way to temporarily access the root filesystem from python script ? Of course, I can temporarily deactivate protection by ‘overlayroot-chroot’ command from terminal and make changes, but that's not what I mean. I have a web server application written in a flask framework. On one of its pages, users can set network parameters, e.g. IP, mask, dns . Is it possible at all, eg when the user accepts changes to disable protection, save changes to root filesystem and immediately enable protection ?

Just a tip for something that has helped me from getting a heart-attack over the many years of online discourse.... Back in the day (ugh-really?) there were only TWO rules for participation in the store-and-forward Fidonet system: 1) Thou shalt not excessively annoy others. 2) Thou shalt not be too easily annoyed. Breaking *either* rule, got you kicked out. Strangely enough, rule #2 was broken more often than #1. And it helps you grow a skin, no matter what is said. Most importantly, it keeps you hacking, and not getting a heart-attack. For Devs, maybe the OpenBSD philosophy can cut through some of the angst: …

Hello there, I have been doing research in regards to finding software or a script that has the ability to monitor the microphone noise and compare it to a wav file I have previously recorded. I've found a technique where someone uses SOX and identifies the maximum amplitude of the noise using a ruby script. It sounds like it should work but I'm worried about false positives. I'm curious if there is something out there that compares the microphones sound spectrograph with the wav file in real time? My end goal is to be able to monitor my basements sump pump usage. When the pump runs, the PI listens then, hits a URL using curl which then insert a…

Hi, I am looking for a device, which has the following hardware: - 2x wifi adapter - 2x ethernet adapter - CSI connector for camera - 2x USB port or 1x USB and 1x USB-C port I know it would be very hard to find such a device, but an option would be to use one USB port and WiFi dongle instead second build-in WiFi and another USB to connect ethernet dogle into it. And for USB-C I can use use an USB-C-to-USB adapter... So at least I would like to find a device with: - 1x wifi adapter - 1x ethernet adapter - CSI connector for camera - 2x or 3x USB port Any ideas?

As much as I love Armbian, I'm also interested in the Tinycore project - not as competition, but as a slightly different discipline with a different outlook. Rather than merely reproduce what can be found at the project site, I'll run over a few quick concepts. Maybe you'll find it interesting as well. In a nutshell - what makes it tiny is that it is basically a kernel, which then relies upon Busybox for the shell/file/unix utilities, including init. You add on as much or little as you like, although there is the total basic commandline / shell offering, or lightweight Xvesa gui desktop to get started. If you want a full blown X11 setup, you ca…

It's *amazing* what you can find reading the Armbian documentation! I dig the shell, even old-school in a virtual terminal or minimal server type setup. Normally that means going through some squinty-eyed hoops to get the Terminus console font installed with larger sizes in the first place on large monitors. Wait - what's this? sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup I did this in a virtual terminal, and allowed setup to pick the right character set for me. Then I blasted the framebuffer with the largest Terminus font size allowed. Perfection! Not a big deal to most, but having this be part of the standard distrib…

Hi, You know the servers running not for free, the Terabytes of traffic cost as well and all the time spent by the armbian team is a great help to you too, right? So, please login to your PayPal account and throw a couple bucks to the project https://www.armbian.com/donate/ another way to say: Thank You - just better! Thank you in advance PS: I say this as a user, not Moderator - I have private live too :-)

Hi all, I would like to let you know that I successfully added to nexmon (framework to patch broadcom WiFi's driver+fw and add functionalities, like monitor mode) support for Orange Pi Zero 2+ (H3 and H5) running the latest Armbian (kernel next) Both boards have AP6212A as WiFi chipset, that is based on same Broadcom core of Raspberry Pi 3B/0W (bcm43430a1). What I did is basically porting brcmfmac's patches to 4.19 and compiling the Arm toolchain (for firmware cross-compiling) for aarch64. It ain't much but it's honest work I kept airodump running for a few hours and it seems stable. If you want to take a look/try it you can find the code h…

I have recently bought a Orange Pi Lite 2 H6 1GB Quad Core Development Board, it comes with one USB 2.0 Port and one USB 3.0 Port. I like to connect the HD Web Camera using the USB 2.0 Port or USB 3.0 Port on to that board, and including setting up the Live-Stream using a Wi-Fi on my PC, so do you have Video Tutorial or Instructions for it . I don’t have Google drive so how can I download instructions for the Orange Pi Lite 2 H6 1GB Quad Core Development Board, Because the Orange Pi Forums is a joke, I can’t even chat to people on the forums when I am logged in, and I cannot Post my message in the forums regarding about technical help I need. (placeholder for a Board Bring Up thread -- now just collecting random nonsense) Board arrived today. Running with ayufan's Debian 9 image (using 1.8/1.4GHz settings for the big.LITTLE cores for whatever reasons instead of 2.0/1.5GHz) I checked for heat dissipation with Pine Inc's huge heatsink first. Huge heatsink combined with thin thermal pad shows really nice thermal values: below 50°C when running cpuburn-a53 on two A53 and two A72 cores in parallel with a fan blowing above the heatsink's surface Board in upright positition still running same cpuburn-a53 task without fan after 20 minutes reports still below 85°C …

Hi everyone, I'm building a micro server based on orange pi prime and armbian, after reading a lot about sd card wear out, I started thinking how could I improve that in my project. For my project it is ok, if data would be physically written to card, every 1 minute instead of on every commit. Now, what I can't find: is there a way to generally configure such memory buffering for a filesystem, so that I don't have to configure this for a database engine?

I like it to anounce some messages/informations via TTS ( T(text)T(o)(S)peech) . Normally I use espeak with a litte better sounding mbrola-voice (No. 6 german). But on Android you could buy - for cheap againt the PC-version - some better voices. Like my favourite german Voice "Julia" from Acapela. So I always wanted to use this voice for the informations. I did found a "server"-app for android which takes a UDP/HTTP-request to play a given string via the default TTS on the android-device (or a .MP3 stored in the memory of the android-device). Its named Home24-MediaPlayer - and can be found at (isnt anymore in the Google P…

I stopped tinkering for a while but https://magicmirror.builders/ perked my interest and been grinning at such a simple project and generally think its really great. I think they have made some odd options as the server and electron browser have been lumped together which is a really strange choice for absolutely no advantage. The server does need restarts and would seem far more often than you would expect and the use of electron means armv7l only which is a shame for the 0/1 owners. You can install using chromium and you certainly don't need the load of a desktop?! Dunno been wondering. I wanted to use a zero as love that tiny footprint and price and there are…

Working on an embedded SBC home automation application with a very small form factor. Size and reliability is at a premium. Just want to have a smart device at the door that will help notify and find me when someone presses the doorbell button, or detects motion at the entrance or curbside mailbox. Two way audio and outbound alerts are progressing nicely but complexity increases significantly when integrating video into the solution. For example, two widely used video trans-coding applications, ffmpeg and gstreamer, may or may not have hardware assisted image signal processing on the SBC. Is any form of image signal processing within scope when a board is supp…

So I built some fresh Armbian images with dev kernels, and setup ubuntu mate and ran them on my tritium h5, and my le potato... and like I've got slack running in chromium n stuff, and desktop switching is pretty decent... and that's without acceleration.. just good 'ole brute force. Basically my mind is blown that its usable and I'm going to retire my c2d dell desktop that's on my KVM and finally use an ARM SBC as a desktop!

Hello Folks I'm after some advice. I've been an avid user of Raspberry Pi's for some time and just love how good they are for tinkering around with without breaking my larger main system, helps me learn all the time. I've recently started using my Raspberry Pi (3b+) to automate several task. I have three mono and two python services running, well I say running...... Essentially if any more than two of these need to process data together the pi can't cope. Top command tells me RAM usage is often 90-100% and the CPU running at between 115-130% before system starts to error out and SSH becomes inaccessible. I feel like I need a…

Hi, Not sure where to post this so apologies if this is the wrong place. I currently have a .me.uk email domain and I can confirm addresses if I change them. However I am in the process of migrating to a .email domain and the confirmation emails never arrive. I am running into minor issues with this domain so this is not unique to Armbian forums. The vast majority of sites work ok but a rare few claim my email address is invalid or (as with the armbian forum) I never receive anything. The only way I have been able to post this was to change my email back to .me.uk and confirm via that. Is it possible to check if the softw…

Hi all, I'm interested in developing and selling a product containing an Orange Pi or Raspberry Pi with embedded software protected by Intellectual Property. I would like it to be as hard as possible for a customer/hacker to get root access or steal software or data out of it. I found the OrangePi to have an 8GB eMMC which would be enough for both OS and our data and probably would be more secure than SD. I'm aware of how to secure network and application layers, but how to secure the device from a customer/hacker who bought the device and thus have physical access to it? I would like to prevent or make it very hard for him to read the eMMc memory or g…

Which do you think is the current SBC better suited as a (light) desktop? I think it would not be the one with the fastest CPU, but the one with the better software support for graphics acceleration and general usage. Hi all. Last weekend PINE64 was on FOSDEM with many new products. The PineBook Pro with RK3399. The new designed PINE H64 with the H6, now with wifi on-board and a small form-factor. That one's comming out next week. The PinePhone. A prototype of the PinePhone with an A64 SoC and 2GB of RAM. The PineCam. A multi-funtional network camera. A new SNES case. Exciting times to come with all that. I've made a video about it all. You can see it here. Greetings, NicoD
