Hi guys I'm desperately trying to get VPSD to run on my Cuboxi4Pro, I'm very close but need some help getting over the line. VPSD is a Serial to TCP hardware to software solution. I've run it on debian for years happily, I've now compiled it on armbian, there are two main components. An executable that is initiated with /etc/init.d/vspm which creates virtual devices in /dev/, this part is working fine. Then there is vspd which creates the daemon, the binary did get built but when I try and run it I get the following: root@cubox-i:~# /etc/init.d/vspd start starting vspd.../etc/init.d/vspd: line 47: /usr/local/vspd/sbin/vspd: cannot execute binary file [FAILURE] /etc…

  3. For a few years now I've used a Cubietruck as a "gateway" for my home network - it mostly just runs nginx as a reverse proxy for the various other computers I have to expose them to the internet via HTTPS. It still runs as good as it always has, I chose it for the task because: 2GB RAM at the time a reasonably fast CPU - dual 1GHz A7's "real" gigabit network interface built in battery management, so no need to worry about power failures corrupting anything sata support for local disk All of these points are now no longer relevant. Over the years I have amassed a few more SBC's, many of which also have 2GB RAM, a faster CPU,…

  4. Wanted to automate payroll. Needed to be as simple/easy on the eyes as possible for your run of the mill user. General functionality is that it makes digital timecards for every employee action/swipe of an RFID tag. Every swipe also punches a Google Sheet based on company department, by utilizing regex to find column associated with employee name, then the row based on today's date. It then punches current military time to corresponding clock in/out offset. The timecard math is all done using the Google spreadsheet functions to discern overtime, total hours, etc... More will be included later to automate even the spreadsheet template even though copy/pasting once every…

Please could someone one provide me with a solution to solve this issue. I'm not a guru when it comes to Linux programming, but I can run basic Linux commands and can find my way around terminal. I've seen a few solutions; like this (https://askubuntu.com/questions/894460/automatically-adjust-display-brightness-based-on-sunrise-and-sunset), where they get the sunrise and sunset times of the day from a website and use a Cron script to set the screen brightness based on that. My main goal is to turn the tinkerboard into a linuxcnc control system with a drop in SDcard/EMMC image(s). The gpio will provide direct step/dir, end stops, router power control signals, etc.... the normal cnc machine control logic one would expect when using a parallel port. 18. Hi Guys, Most of us have powerfull (compared to Pi's) unused phones on the shelfs just because we got a new one or for other reasons. I have (a not so old) samsung S7 edge with broken screen siting on my shelf that I would love to use as server for my home automation projects. There are many options to keep android and run some Linux Distributions in chroot but it is still somehow limited. Since most of phone use ARM architecture I was wondering if there is already anything or interest in creating Armbian port for unused phones. My S7 edge runs a samsung exynos arm SOC. Thanks, Diogo

This mini-tutorial is for those interested in running OpenGL applications and games on OpenGL ES. Most (maybe all?) SoCs around support OpenGL ES, which is almost a stripped down version of OpenGL. OpenGL ES is mainly used by smartphone apps, but on Linux and generally on desktop computer OpenGL clients are the most common. This tutorial is very simple and will teach you on how to download and compile GL4ES (github: https://github.com/ptitSeb/gl4es), a nice piece of software that converts most OpenGL calls into OpenGL ES counterparts to achieve some degree of compatibility and let your apps run on our SoCs. The target of this tutorial is the Rockchip RK3288 SoC …

I have two possibilities: One is to use the already integrated UART, or use a USB - I2C converter. Using the UART I would communicate the NANOPI with a 328P microcontroller, and from there I would collect the RTC information (with i2c between 328P and RTC), in addition to sending the frequent information to the 328P to keep the watchdog active. Using the I2C, the RTC would be connected to the I2C BUS and I would do the direct query via NANOPI R1, as well as send the frequent information via I2C …

It is lighter and faster. thanks

  32. I have an ASUS Tinkerboard and I have been using Armbian 18.04, but I would like to know if there is a way to install the Ubuntu-Mate desktop? I tried the following after a fresh install of Armbian 18.04 and before I did anything else. I did not install any desktop from armbian-config. sudo apt update sudo apt install tasksel sudo apt install ubunutu-mate-desktop And while this looked promising and went through the motions (and it took forever), in the end it did not work. I only had the command prompt. Again I did not run anything from armbian-config yet. Thoughts on how to make this work? I assume it is possible. Thanks.

  33. Orange Pi 5B subforum has recurring threads about eMMC boot loops, WiFi/Bluetooth regressions on mainline kernels, and the general "what image actually works on this thing" question. Joshua-Riek's ubuntu-rockchip was a common answer to that for a long time, but it was archived recently. This is a personal continuation fork in case it's useful to anyone working through those same issues. What this is: - Fork of Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-rockchip (archived) — same vendor 6.1 kernel base, not mainline - Therefore: onboard WiFi/BT works (no mainline driver regressions), eMMC boots reliably - Scope: Orange Pi 5B + Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) only. jammy/oracular/plucky suite conf…

Hello fellow armbianites, It has been put to me that arm based boards require a DTB file because arm works a bit differently than x86. The difference between an arm and an x86 board, is that x86 is standardised and always has the same form factor. When you plug in a device into an expansion slot or port on your motherboard the new device announces itself. All the addresses are known in advance and hence there is no need for a DTB file. On arm on the other hand board design is not standardised. You can design a PCB whichever way you would like and solder any component onto the board that your heart desires. There is no single way…

I have had a number of kernels running on this board (4.19.209 BSP, 6.0 mainline, 6.1-rc1 mainline) but the wifi is a problem. 54. I've installed Armbian on the SD card for X96mini ( 1GB/8GB ). I only would like to get USB-cam video ( MJPEG/30FPS 1920x080 or 1280x720 ) to hdmi display. But I don't know where to begin with the solving of some issues: 1) S905W should support 4x2GHz cores, but cpufreq-info "says", that 1,2GHz is max. possible clock frequency 2) if I start mplayer with -vo null the USB seems to be to slow. I've got max 10-20 fps. On the PC I get about 30 fps with 1920x1080. ( AUSDOM 620pro ) 3) The less number of picture per seconds looks also not very good on tv screen ( very slow ). I tried with mplayer -vo fbdev 4) I've tried also under X11 with qv…

Wondering about the availability of support for routing audio through to USB DAC? In DietPi this was handled through alsamixer. How is it handled if at all with Armbian?

I was reading the Orange Pi forum and someone in a topic conversation asked why not use a USB for power to a Orange Pi board. I am not smart enough to know why but did find a good explanation of USB online when searchingthe internet. Hope Armbian don't mind me sharing it here as I think it is informative for other novices like me and helps understand USB. http://www.usbmadesimple.co.uk/index.html

  63. Hi, I wonder if anyone has experience using an sbc (or tv box) for remote controlling a server. I think the necessary pieces are there on many boards (many have camera inputs which could perhaps be used for video, it looks like some even have an hdmi in). I found this [1] project, but it uses some extra hardware I'd like to avoid. https://github.com/Fmstrat/diy-ipmi Has anyone done anything similar? Note I'm mostly looking into this to gain knowledge, not to put this in production in a real world situation.

This is faster than ctypes and seem more natural to program with. ctypesgen (the code generator) doen't really support Python 3, so I've hit a dead end there. It seems like JNA is still the best choice for Java bindings, so I'm sticking with that for now. In any event I threw together a button press app that uses CFFI and libgrpiod. I'll be updating my bindings project to support this soon. libgpiod version 1.1.devel Name: gpiochip1, label: 1f02c00.pinctrl, lines: 32 Press button…

Hello, is there something like a VirtualBox that can emulate a BP(M1) hardware, that can run Armbian inside? I'm looking for a way to set up a new Armbian system for a BPM1, without having to shut down the running one longer than absolutely necessary. I have done this before with Linux servers: I installed and configured a hole server inside a VirtualBox alongside my normal computer work, then I copied the image to the real disk and swapped the disks, with a downtime of only about 5 minutes. So I was wondering if this was possible with the BananaPi as well.

Rather than merely reproduce what can be found at the project site, I'll run over a few quick concepts. Maybe you'll find it interesting as well. In a nutshell - what makes it tiny is that it is basically a kernel, which then relies upon Busybox for the shell/file/unix utilities, including init. You add on as much or little as you like, although there is the total basic commandline / shell offering, or lightweight Xvesa gui desktop to get started. If you want a full blown X11 setup, you ca…
