  1. Hello all And firstly I would like to congratulate you and thank you for a cracking little distro. I recently purchased an OrangePi-One amid all the hype of the Pi-Zero to give the Opi a try out. after having tried the images available on the manufacturers site and learning there shortcomings I resolved to build my own image. I was pointed to your site by a member over at http://forum.doozan.com and I must say I am blown away by what you have achieved and distribute!!! You have saved me the pain of building my own OS by applying all the relevant patches. I will be testing your images out for my own needs and should I be able to make any contribution over and abov…

  2. I have playing with compile.sh CREATE_PATCHES=yes There is a guide here https://zuckerbude.org/armbian-using-create-patches/ I also read this before https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_User-Configurations/#user-provided-patches So if someone is a profession developer and understands how to use diff and patch commands, then please understand that I am not, so please help but keep it as newbie as you can. So when I came across this CREATE_PATCHES option I though, ooh that's clever. I can make changes to u-boot or kernel source and it will create the patch files for me, and then I can put those patch files on my github fork of build, o…

  4. I have been bouncing ideas around with@diozerofor using MMIO in a generic way to achieve fast GPIO for times when performance (bit banging, software based PWM, low CPU latency, etc) is required. This is my first attempt using a NanoPi Duo (H2+) which should work on any H2+ or H3 based SBC. What I've done is write a register mapper, so I can extract the register masks without having to do it by hand from the datasheet. Hand mask making is tedious and error prone. The generic part will come in by externalizing the register offsets and masks. This will happen after I build my next project using an Odroid C2. Also, since the Duo didn't have PUDs, so I could not map those. Tha…

So my whole goal with java-periphery was to create a decent cross platform userspace IO library which I believe I have achieved. One of my other goals was to create a high performance GPIO API that's also cross platform. If you look around there aren't any from what I can tell. Most high performance GPIO libraries support only a few boards. What I've done is use a well known interface (GPIO device) and some MMIO code to detect deltas and generate the required resisters and masks from an input file. This surely beats doing this by hand which I tried at first. The result is code that supports Allwinner H2+/H3 and H5/H6 by using just an input file. I'm going to look at other…

  6. Hello Everyone! I faced with some problems with csi driver on mainline kernel. The study of the Internet did not give any result. Probably someone already done the same things, and could answer on couple of my questions? My configuration: custom board based on A20 SoC (quite similar with Olimex Lime2), armbian-buster-desktop 20.05.0, Linux Kernel 5.4.41, and OV5640 CSI camera connected to CSI0 in parallel 8bit mode. My questions are: 1) Can anyone confirm that the sun4i_csi module in Mainline kernel works (with any CSI camera)? 2) Does the sun4i_csi module work with CSI1 port too? 3) If someone already run OV5640 via CSI on A20 SoC, what is the maximum fps can…

You can't read every interesting news blog, annotation etc. about stuff related to tech, linux whatever is in this field. Open a new thread for all those stuff you might share with others here ends that also nobody reads it cause it's spread though various threads. So why not share them all in one thread? Idea: Share a link to the article in this thread with a short teaser what the article is about and maybe some opinions why you like the article. It should not be 'post link only without any description what the article is about'. So, I'll start with the first one (not that recent, but I think it's still worth to read): http://kroah.com…

I just pay attention. XFCE4 and third software eg chromium in debian 9 has more errors than in ubuntu 18.04. These are errors unrelated to the armbian. Quite simply, the debian developers probably do not test their packages as accurately as ubuntu. These are the dissapearing clocks XFCE panel, the lack of the chromium minimization button, the synaptic correction not working in the search option, and so on. They do not matter to you, but they are important when used by ordinary users in production. I see that you have a lot of images doing Debian 9. If you can already consider doing images ubuntu 18.04. Ubuntu is also faster than debian 9, really feel the difference.

And for USB-C I can use use an USB-C-to-USB adapter... Purpose: Discuss displays that at least someone has tested and/or use, particularly touchscreens/strange resolutions/sizes/alternative technologies (DSI, parallel TFT, SPI, etc) Goal: Have some kind of "This at least worked with this version at that time" resource. Over and over people post things like "I have a Waveshare <XX.YY.ZZ> and Armbian can't do what the vendor kernel that uses a crap kernel full of security holes and crusty drivers can". So, point them here and say: "By the power of Google, I beseech thee, search!" And I have some random stuff lying around.

Once it configured itself (and you have adjusted the configuration file) you run the script again. A similar approach could be done for DMS Paperless I guess. I agree, Mayan has business like options. Do you want it for business or private use? Not sure what exactly you mean by web-upload, paperless offers: Currently, there are three options: the consumption directory, IMAP (email), and HTTP POST.

However we see that there are Rx, Tx pin on 26 pin header compatible to Raspberry pi. When we connect the console to the GND/Rx/Tx on 26 pin header we do not get console so my understanding is that there is a dedicated serial port for console that can be accessed from GND/Rx/Tx next to ethernet port and Serial port on Tx/Rx pins on 26 pin header is different. We need extra serial port to connect our UART based peripheral. So I am wondering if I can use the Rx/Tx/GND on 26 pin header, if yes how do I use them …

Suppose that you have a bunch of dtb/dts files that are known good (like from Linux kernel source). Suppose that you have a dtb file that you ripped out of some new device and probably no source code. This tool will allow to dump all of the parameters (nodes) out of the dtb file and compare it with all of the other ones that you have in a spreadsheet so that you can visualise the differences. I must admit I don't really know what to do with my sbc's. After getting them set up there is nothing more I could think of to use them for. I guess part of the fun is in getting them set up, and to run them cool during native kernel builds. Just so it's not a complete waste of money, I spent more (though not a lot) to add dual screens to some of them. Any ideas what else I could use them for? I already have music players (a lot of them, DACs), NAS, home control, security camera, what else do you use them for? I haven't left any of them outside in the sun yet to try out solar power. So, I added dual screens to these ones (left to right, counter clockwise)…

Really the only change is that .dtbo files need to be compiled with symbols (-@) like this: dtc -@ -o myoverlay.dtbo myoverlay.dts And then you can load/unload those overlays after (or during) boot by doing something like this: # Creates the dynamic overlay mkdir /sys/kernel/config/device-tree/overlays/myoverlay # Load the dynamic overlay cat myoverlay.dtbo > /sys/kerne…

Hello Everyone, I'm currently doing an assignment for one of my classes, and in it, I have to give examples, using Java syntax, of *static* and *dynamic binding*. I am lost while understanding the work process. I understand the basic concept, that static binding happens at compile time and dynamic binding happens at runtime, but I can't figure out how they actually work specifically. I found an example of static binding online that gives this example and running the program on interviewbit. public static void callEat(Animal animal) { System.out.println("Animal is eating"); } public static void callEat(Dog dog) { System.out.println("Dog is eating")…

I appreciate people want to do all sorts of things with their SBCs, but the usage of "cheap PC" must be common, and users will have the expectation of connecting up a HDD or SSD. So I was thinking: how about a M.2 slot instead supporting PCIe x4 so we can buy the biggest, fastest and cheapest per GB SSDs around. You could then eliminate the TF slot, micro-SD cards and eMMC modules, and the system could boot off the drive in the normal Linux manner. I'm not sure where the "support for PCIe x4" comes from, or how much this would affect the price. In the same way, I will probably never use GPIO pins, or IR receivers, cameras, touchscreens, on-board microphones…

I think that I have only two options: go with SBC with EMMC or just buy cheap 32/64 GB SSD with USB adapter. What do you think, which option gives me better durability? Can I assume that EMMC is really durable comparing to SD card? Is USB 2.0 adapter as fast as EMMC?

Granted this isn't a bank, but it would be nice if you enabled SSL during login and account creation. Especially these days with all the security breaches we have. Cheers.

After working with sysfs and libgpiod as cross platform solutions I was wondering if there was a faster way using /dev/mem or mmio? I know this gets more bare metal and SBC specific, but for some things you may want absolute speed. https://opensource.com/life/16/4/bulldog-gpio-library for instance claims 1 MHz GPIO writes in Java. However it only supports 3 SBCs as you can see from https://github.com/SilverThings/bulldog. Is there a more generic way to do this and not lose performance? Using my generated JNA wrappers for libgpiod I get about 2K writes per second. In Python I think it's about 70K using libgpiod Python bindings. I realize you may not always need 1 MHz GPIO …

I was able to build the property file for the NanoPi M1 in about 20 minutes, so now basically you can do ~2 MHz GPIO square wave on all Allwinner and S905 CPUs (you listening @TonyMac32?) without any special code or adapters. All other libraries require one off code to support GPIO register access thus they only support limited boards. In my mind this is the holy grail for cross platform GPIO performance. I plan on going through some more diverse boards, but I'm happy with the results so far. Since only one core is utilized you'll average 25% CPU utilization on quad core systems. That may be another goal using two threads to improve performance further. I have currently m…
