(I am running Ubuntu Core QT-Embedded on a nanoPi Neo using this network adapter)The first time I used the network adapter it worked perfectly. I saw the adapter when I typed ifconfig -a and it connected to my network when I typed the following commands: ifdown wlan0 ifup wlan0Then I unplugged the power supply and plugged it back in and now it doesn't work or show up on ifconfig -a. I tested it out on my Windows machine and the adapter works fine, and when I type lsusb I can see a network adapter so I'm very confused. How can I resolve this issue?

Recently I've bought small box which is kind if "wireless interface" for wired AA: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006001314624.html It works quite nicely with my Ford S-Max but I'm very curious man and got it open (aka teardown). Chips cannot be identified, they lack any marks. But there is DEBUG UART First I connected it into my PC. Removable disk appeared with a few files that keeps my phone's BT address and such information. Nothing really interesting. Then I powered up device when holding the button, it didn't start but went into some "flashing mode" I think - it was identified as USB\VID_1F3A&PID_EFE8 which means sunxi SoC OTG connector in FE…

hi ya all . i have orangepi one with armbian set up as web site server ... All good seems stable and cool despite being housed in the little cardboard box it arrived in. Now because I am on alternative power and sometimes this is in greater supply than others I would really like to reduce power consumption as much as possible Not interested in reducing processor power or memory speed or other things that may impact on its primary task of serving web pages and processing php. however the only connections to the board are ethernet and power I do not want or need any graphics camera USB or whatever nor do i need any services other than ssh and …

All, I am looking for a 7 - 10" TFT display with SPI connection, and with touchscreen preferably via I2C, for a project of mine. I want to use the display to show just a static HTML page, without any window manager etc. Pretty basic principle I think. Looking at the website of www.buydisplay.com I see a few options with regards to the controllers used. The main options are: - RA8875 - RA8876 - SSD1963 I can find online references to the RA8875 being supported by fbtft, but there is also a statement on the github page of fbtft that there will be no more development of fbtft ... Before pulling the trigger on a display, I would real…

I have playing with compile.sh CREATE_PATCHES=yes There is a guide here https://zuckerbude.org/armbian-using-create-patches/ I also read this before https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_User-Configurations/#user-provided-patches So if someone is a profession developer and understands how to use diff and patch commands, then please understand that I am not, so please help but keep it as newbie as you can. So when I came across this CREATE_PATCHES option I though, ooh that's clever. I can make changes to u-boot or kernel source and it will create the patch files for me, and then I can put those patch files on my github fork of build, o…

Hello, I have been trying to get a user to automatically log in onto one of the virtual consoles and everything I try seems to fail. 1. I crested the device with 'systemctl edit getty@tty2' 2. As I do not have any Intel based system, and I'd like to buid Armbian, my options are fairly limited. I have a PowerBook G4, but I can't build the Linaro toolchain there, because it requires autogen, which needs guile, which won't build due to undefined symbols. However, the Linaro toolchain builds on my Cubieboard2. I've read a little about how to build Armbian, and to me it looks a bit complicated (I'm used to building stuff myself, I've just never built an entire Linux system before). -So why is it necessary (or recommended) to use a virtual machine for building ? -Is it just to get a "clean system" before building, does it have to do with "cleanup" after…

Hey all, I'm having a hard time choosing a board for my next SBC project. I've decided on the orange pi zero form factor unless someone can persuade me otherwise. Basically my options and reasons are as follows: Orange Pi Zero 512MB - H2+ - cheaper, half the cost of the others. - fast Ethernet on board. Orange Pi Zero Plus 2 - Better mainline support than H5 - smaller vertically than Pi Zero - hdmi - emmc on board Orange Pi Zero Plus 2 - faster dram speed (can't remember where I read that) - emmc on board - same small vertical size - seems more power hungry /sensi…

I just wanted to support you in your move from ROM to Distro. Having up to date kernels, learning to make up to date kernels and absolutley great compile updates are what separate what you've been doing from other projects. I know quite well that it's not easy doing your own funky tech thing, and wish to congratulate you on seeing it through! Best wishes, a fan of your work! -Jake

I'm using an eBay packaged Debian 6 MySQL server that is on an OPi PC v1.2 (at least that's what's printed on the board). I am building a database for my app. Just discovered "Browse Network" on the File Manager app and was pleasetly surprised to see "WORKGROUP" appear, which is my (otherwise) Wintel home network. That network has an NAS, but dble-clicking the WG resulted in the attached popup "Failed to open "WORKGROUP". My Linux Bible suggested commands showmount, ftp, lftp and findsmb, none of which, apparently, are installed on my OPi Suggestions, please. Gene

I noticed that on the Duo I can select 5.5.0-rc6-sunxi in dev. Is there any idea when 5.5.0 will be the default release? Also, I noticed that there's no matching 5.5.x kernel source. I'm playing with linux-headers-dev-sunxi to see if I can compile libgpiod master which requires 5.5.0.

This could be old news, but my plex update today threw a message out on the console (apt upgrade) that official armv7 and armv8 packages are available. This should be a pretty solid performance boost for most of us I would imagine, the old packages were fro armel NAS boxes. Testing it out on my XU4.

I've installed Armbian on the SD card for X96mini ( 1GB/8GB ). I only would like to get USB-cam video ( MJPEG/30FPS 1920x080 or 1280x720 ) to hdmi display. But I don't know where to begin with the solving of some issues: 1) S905W should support 4x2GHz cores, but cpufreq-info "says", that 1,2GHz is max. possible clock frequency 2) if I start mplayer with -vo null the USB seems to be to slow. I've got max 10-20 fps. On the PC I get about 30 fps with 1920x1080. ( AUSDOM 620pro ) 3) The less number of picture per seconds looks also not very good on tv screen ( very slow ). I tried with mplayer -vo fbdev 4) I've tried also under X11 with qv…

Hello everyone! I am here to ask for knowledgeable suggestion: I am looking for a possibly armbian supported board capable of hardware transcoding a single 1920x1080 hdmi source at 15 fps. Source is coming from a usb UVC video grabber in raw yuv422 format. Hard requirements is to produce a rtsp stream at original resolution/framerate of the source. Soft requirements is to have also an HTML5 embeddable stream to use in a web application without needing a plugin. Tipically, this would be a MP4 (h.264 codec) and a webm (V8 codec) streams (possibly both to ensure best browser compatibility). This would be used for monitoring purposes by the user, so 5fps…

Hi there, I'm looking for a replacement for my NanoPi NEO (512M) fleet. I'm open to your suggestions. Things I do **not** like about NanoPi: * Unreliable Ethernet. A network interface is flipping all the time Up/Down. * 512 MB is not enough for a tor relay * Hardware watchdog does not work reliably. It works in synthetic tests but sometimes a board just freezes. Things I like about NanoPi: * Armbian support * Price * Size/form factor * Performance * Heat dissipation * Ethernet tap My use cases: * Tor router * Home DNS server * Monitoring server Prometheus for my SBCs and network equipment.

Hi, This is new to me and probably to you too. If you look a little bit around in this Forum you will find that RPi-Monitor is a well known tool and can be adjusted to your SoC. Now I found this project on Github RPi-MonitorWatcher Raspberry Pi Monitor Watcher is an Android application to view the status of your Raspberry Pis. It uses the API provided by Raspberry Pi Monitor. Someone might now think "my mobile has a browser" what do I need this for. Because you can I cannot find an .apk if you are smarter than me and know what I have to do to get this I would be grateful. Cheers Tido

Armbian is adedd to the distrowatch list. https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=armbian Already 2 years ago I submitted you to the list but then they refused to listen to me, despite the fact that RaspbianOS was placed a long time ago. I think that this will further influence the popularity of the venture.

I have a need for a low-cost machine for my daughter. I could buy a Raspberry pi and run Ubuntu on it, but I have a few Amlogic boards at hand, and for the most part they work perfectly with Armbian (OK I know they are not a supported board, and I don't run an official build). My concern, though, is that lack of hardware support (audio, video decoding) which makes low-profile hardware quite sluggish to use in the daily life. My point is that I am tired of seeing perfectly usable (in theory) electronic products to to landfill (and create an environmental disaster) just because software is falling short. Not even software in fact, bu…

I've seen TKaiser make reference to different SOC's as good, bad, etc. and was wondering if there is any info available on the forum about the different SOC's. The good, the bad, the ugly, etc. would be really good. I've gotten several boards, but later I found the armbian site, and the forum where I've seen bad comments about different SOC's. I might be looking for a new board to play with in the future, and knowing which SOC is good, or bad would be really nice to know before starting the research on the next pi like device.

hi all i had armbian build running with 'dev' kernel (4.9.0) and armbian 5.24 which worked PERFECT over a month. decided 2 days ago to build from scratch, armbian build system pulled all latest updates and i got 5.24 with kernel 4.9.3 (2 days ago) and 4.9.4 today. None of those would boot properly (ie. can not ping/access the board). I also tried downloading nightly build and that one is not working any more. Iknow these builds are not supported but since it worked very well i think something got broken either in kernel or uboot or in armbian so might be worth a look. tx in advance !

hey, I'm having some trouble with my ssh connection to an armbian based server. It feels like a heavy lag within the filesystem, sometimes it takes up to 20 seconds to open a file with vim or use cd with tab-completion. But it is not always there, it feels more like some heavy write operation occurs spontaneously. I start digging but I have no clue why this happens. But at least I found the most disk I/O processes which are influxdb and mysql. I hope this is the right section to post my inquiry, and I hope it doesn't breach any forum policies I'm excited to have learned about this community for the current project I've dreamed up. Some background on me: So, professionally I'm a software engineer with ability to self-teach, solve weird problems, and innovate. Personally, I am annoyed, and amazed that what i dreamt up doesn't already exist, and the versions that do exist are very crude, and unimagined. Yes, I know I'm being cryptic, but bare with me for a moment though. I have a vision for a completely untouched modern take on OS design, and completely possible. _Versions_ of it even already exist rig…

Hello, is there something like a VirtualBox that can emulate a BP(M1) hardware, that can run Armbian inside? I'm looking for a way to set up a new Armbian system for a BPM1, without having to shut down the running one longer than absolutely necessary. I have done this before with Linux servers: I installed and configured a hole server inside a VirtualBox alongside my normal computer work, then I copied the image to the real disk and swapped the disks, with a downtime of only about 5 minutes. So I was wondering if this was possible with the BananaPi as well.

Hi, I'm planning on buying Orange Pi Zero and before I do that, I want to make sure I won't regret anything after buying it. I'm planning on using the pi zero as a wireless router with its built-in wifi, but I read on some posts that the driver XR819 itself has some issues, like heating up the board or high ping. So please suggest me which distro I should use for the pi zero that has no wifi issues. Thank you.

First let me share my target needs of the project: -1. ARM CPU (run Linux) - I think for my project, Quad-Core is more than enough -2. RAM 1GB/2GB -3. eMMC 16GB for OS Boot -4. SD Card for file storage (up-to 512GB) -5. Two USB2.0 (One Host Mode and One Device Mode) and one USB3.0 (Only Host Mode is Ok. Its for faster file transfer to connected external Portable HDD) -6. Capacitive Touchscreen 3.5 Inch (as we will run some Python based…

Two things: - If no HDMI is pluged in, /dev/fb0 disapears. Replug and it's there again. Must that be? (This nearly made me crazy 'till I found out!). - Compilation of external Drivers doesn't work anymore after new update. I have the precise error not here because I reinstalled generic version, but it's reproducable. (e.g with that: http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/pub/a/linux/2007/07/05/devhelloworld-a-simple-introduction-to-device-drivers-under-linux.html?page=2). Cheers Thomas

I am looking for an affordable SBC card that will work as a solid NAS system that I can also run alongside either TrueNas/FreeNAS/OMV such as Grafana, VPN, Docker. Anything above $100 USD is unfeasible for me right now.

I just have to share my method to test distros headless with my OdroidN2. The N2 boots eMMC before SD card, so what I did was to flash the SD card with an armbian distro and get it up and running. the SD card always shows up on mmcblk0 and the eMMC on mmcblk1. So it boots from SD when it can't find a bootloader on the eMMC. I can flash any image easily with dd if=image of=/dev/mmcblk1 and just do a reboot, and it will boot the eMMC. Whenever I want to test another image, i can just do dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mmcblk1 bs=1M count=1 to make the eMMC unbootable, causing it to start on the SD image on the next reboot. A very …

I'm only just getting started with this project. So far I have gotten a lot of help from some great people and looking to get further along with this project as time goes on. My main goal is to turn the tinkerboard into a linuxcnc control system with a drop in SDcard/EMMC image(s). The images will be preloaded with everything needed to setup a cnc machine for different control systems such as GPIO, ETHERNET, SPI depending on one's choice or needs for control. The gpio will provide direct step/dir, end stops, router power control signals, etc.... the normal cnc machine control logic one would expect when using a parallel port. Ethernet and SPI will be options for anyone u…

As I recently wrote I started to use the desktop with armbian. Two obvious missing things puzzle me, but that maybe as not many are using it: xserver restart (ctrl + alt+ backspace) key kombination is missing disabled by default, go to >settings>session & startup>autostart and add: "setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp" can this be added into a config file of XFCE as a standard? The other options that are available for setxkbmap "-option X" are determined by /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.lst Text Editior - the only text editor available... LibreOffice Lubuntu - leafpad Geany serves both light weight Editor with an Integrated…

I have a running obsession with sensors/motors/SBCs and have been creating a collection of C libraries as I learn/conquer each new device. I recently added a few that might interest some of the forum residents here. They include a C library to talk to the RPI Sense Hat, ST Micro VL53L0X time of flight distance sensor, and CCS811 air quality sensor. You can find them all here: https://github.com/bitbank2 If anyone has a sensor/add-on that they would like to program in C from their Orange Pi and there isn't any code available, let me know and maybe I can add it to my collection.

I copied the system from http://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-pcto a 8GB SD and installed it in OrangePi PC, which works OK withe some other distros. - No connection with SSH - No visual (The card HDMI might be broken. No visual with Raspbian either) - The LED lights up abt. 10sec after power-on on the board as well as the LEDs by RJ45 connector Tested with bot Jessie and Trusty. I inserted the Trusty card to my Linux Mint 17.3 laptop and edited /etc/network/interface.default. There is only local, no eth0. I wrote static address mantra there and tested, but no go. Fdisk told there is only one partition on the card starting from 2048. - Checked with ping and "nm…

Just received my H616 OpiZero2... Since there is no Armiban -- I tried "Xunglong" version of Ubuntu Focal. Motd from Armbian armbian-config magically transferred into orangepi-config. Same to armbianmonitor, which is now .. guess - orangepimonitor. Also armbianEnv.txt now orangepiEnv.txt in /boot. Looks like "good global search and replace job" was done. I'm not a lawyer, neither too much aware of opensource licenses... But I guess there SHOULD be a reference to original Armbian sources ? May be Armbian "stakeholders" are aware of this, may be not. Just for your information.

Good day/night, I have 3 main questions. I have the following; https://www.androidpolice.com/2015/12/19/jide-remix-mini-android-desktop-pc-review-interesting-software-let-down-by-bargain-bin-hardware/ https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=44_567&item_id=092497 Which version of "Armbian" should I download for these 2 devices? As well I was wondering if there is a generic x86/x86_64 version of Armbian for download? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been seeding torrents on my CubieBoard2 earlier; in Juli I moved to one of my EspressoBIN boards. I allocated 128GB for the torrents (since it was stated that I needed at least 60GB for Armbian). -But now Armbian seem to take up 123GB on my dedicated transmission partition: $ df -h . Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sdc13 128G 123G 4.5G 97% /transmission It seems I have 388 completed Armbian files (and no other files). -Does this mean that something went out of control - like files not being deleted - or does it mean that the torrents use this much space now ?

Hello Armbian community, Here is a project of adjusting the Kobol Helios4 case for a Raspberry Pi 3B and either 2.5" or 3.5" HDD, as well as a 92mm FAN and a USB hub. This is my first SketchUp project (I've used the 2016 trial version). The Raspberry Pi will be screwed in the bottom and powered through the micro usb. That's why I've left more room on that side. We can fit either 4x2.5" or 3x3.5" at any "deep" level. I've left room for a USB hub because I want to reuse my existing spare one. We can maybe come with a better idea, more universal (eg. dual output 12v and 5v of at least 90w, or a Molex fanless PSU unit. The latter would b…

So, I have assembled here some criteria that I think should be relevant: Pricing Not too expensive, <= $60 Surfing performance Anything that will allow really Smooth video playback on the browser YouTube and the likes sh…

I'm pretty disillusioned. No system for the rockpi meets all my expectations. But TwisterOS comes very close. Even though I don't play computer games, I like the desktop and also the gimmick with the circles. Most of all I like that I can run Kodi and firefox from the same login. This is exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately the hardware PWM does not work under TwisterOS. Neither via overlay, nor with manually changed dtb file. I discovered that TwisterOS and LE use the same kernel version. Under LE my driver works, so I would like to try copying the kernel from LE to TwisterOS. Now both systems boot completely different. What do I need to…

I have recently stumbled upon an #armbian channel at FreeNode and noticed that there is a small, but growing, Armbian user community gathering there. It doesn’t seem any developers are there, but since the number of participants has already in double digits, it is fair to say that it is at least an unofficial Armbian user channel. In case you are an IRC person, you are hereby kindly invited to join our idle chatter at: irc://freenode.net/#armbian NB: The forums are still the official communication channel and I made sure to include that in the channel’s topic.

At first I compiled today armbian buster dev with kernel 5.10.10 and had no chance to connect eth0 nor wlan0 to my network Only a USB-Ethernet did connect instantly via DHCP. I did try to go back to kernel 5.9.1 via armbin-config, because with older installations with kernel 5.9.1 (up to 5.9.5) it did work, but also cant connect via onboard ports But onboard ethernet get a link and did show the right speed and wlan0 is also displaying the available WiFi networks. Next try was to build the armbian buster current (which gave me also kernel 5.10.10) and it also doesnt connect with onboard devices (here not via Network-Manager nor /e…

good day dear friends, well sure i know this is theoretically a bit difficult, but I dare to ask: what are the possible ways to connect an internal 3.5'' SATA HDD to the board (let's say i want to use a 1TB)? Let's ignore the need for additional power. i want to add a good power supply unit: So that i have enough power. What about the ways and options to connect a HDD. What is aimed: I want to make a box like a Network Attached Storage - a NAS - that contains the board and the HDD internally, so the trivial "plug to USB connector" is excluded. How can I do this? first approach: Well - i guess that the only way is to use a sata…

In one post here I saw a "please buy hardware we recommend" quote, and I appreciate that, but I wasn't able to find a recommended boards list - is there even one? Or should I just use the standard/platinum support filtering on the main page? Anyway, I could also use some help / recommendation for a general purpose SBC as I ... didn't by one for years. I'm looking for a more recent SBC to run a small, low power server (think pihole, homeassistant, zigbee, etc). I don't have specific requirements, but I'd like the board to have some kind of "long term support" and I'd also like to choose something that the armbian team would recommend, maybe from a manufacturer …

Hello, I wanted to "build" some kind of Libre Safebox and Libre Router (meaning as libre as possible, of course in this case). I searched around but I still didn't find anything really fully assembled (a part for the Project Turris router, but I was hoping in something more versatile, that isn't necessarily restricted to being a router), so I decide to, if possible, find/assemble a more custom solution by myself. It doesn't have to be anything particularly performing, just that it can handle 720p videos and resolutions smoothly enough, that it can be used to surf the internet even with several open tabs and maybe some basic office things. The most important thing is that…

Been hearing some news lately about some pretty big ARM Mali GPU vulnerabilities. Old boards could be affected, including ones that are not maintained. https://hothardware.com/news/arm-warns-of-mali-gpu-vulnerabilities https://developer.arm.com/Arm Security Center/Mali GPU Driver Vulnerabilities https://arstechnica.com/security/2023/10/vulnerable-arm-gpu-drivers-under-active-exploitation-patches-may-not-be-available/ I have a Rockchip RK3399 that may also be affected by this. Can Armbian do anything to help mitigate this problem? A handful of boards use these GPUs.

I bought DS1307 RTC but it is 5V so it can't be connected to the Pi. I know it can be modified to use 3.3V by removing 2 resistors. This sensor is different than the adafruit kit so I am not sure which resistors to remove. It also has 2 sets of pins. What are the extra pins for and which should I use and which pins do I remove? Here is the image of the RTC: Here you can see the datasheet for the DS1307 RTC.

Wanted to automate payroll. Needed to be as simple/easy on the eyes as possible for your run of the mill user. General functionality is that it makes digital timecards for every employee action/swipe of an RFID tag. Every swipe also punches a Google Sheet based on company department, by utilizing regex to find column associated with employee name, then the row based on today's date. It then punches current military time to corresponding clock in/out offset. The timecard math is all done using the Google spreadsheet functions to discern overtime, total hours, etc... More will be included later to automate even the spreadsheet template even though copy/pasting once every…

Is it worth starting an Armbian wiki? It seems that for questions such as how do I write the raw file to an SD card, how do I disable LEDs on my whicheverPi, why doesn't my orange pi pc boot this work in progress image and so forth could be answered there. Hopefully it would reduce the Forum traffic for such things, but also when they do pop up a simple one line response with the wiki link is all that's required. I realise that there is the Armbian documentation, which is great, but only really covers how to use Armbian to build images. Equally there is gold mine of information in the forum, but it's sometimes buried a few pages deep or only comes to the surface…

I am new to single board computers and have previously used Microsoft Windows computers or Android TV dongle/box. I do find it a bit odd that everyone seems to be working on their own versions of operating systems. It would be a bit like Intel coding their own Windows and AMD coding their own version of windows too. Now while people have different aims and software needs it is I think a shame all the different programmers and groups cannot come together more on software. You have the various Linuxs Then all the soc variations. Now Armbian seems a step in the right direction and you have various Socs and SBC computers, it is just a pity Xapple, Lem…

I wonder if somebody can help me make a good choice. I'm sorry if I'm a bit rambling but I spent a good part of the weekend looking at different SBCs. I've played around with the early Rasperry Pi, then later on I got a Cubietruck (which still faithfully does network stuff at home) and a Cubox. (Which I wasn't that happy with because I needed a little bit more omph, it was *mostly* fine though) What I'm looking for is an ARM based setup I can do some browsing with, run some lightweight X11 (jwm window manager and some very light programs mostly dependent on X-libraries) and watch videos up to 720p. The screens' resolution would be 1280x1024. It'd b…

Hi, I have a question regarding standard DNS server entry in resolv.conf: The Google DNS 8.8.8.8 is at the top followed by the one supplied by my DHCP service. That way the Google server will be queried first, which I think is wrong, considering privacy implications. Why is it hardcoded anyway? As I understand it, it comes from /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head? this should not include anything. Would be nice If somebody could clarify why it is implemented that way. Thanx
