Armbian build framework

deprecated forums. READ ONLY

Note:

Topics regarding the build framework shall be discussed at Github

  1. mainline u-boot can read boot menu from extlinux.conf, and provides a menu to console or display (if support), which is more friendly to boot.scr and debian provides a tool: u-boot-menu to update extlinux.conf. in order to use u-boot-menu in armbian, need to update kernel build scripts, need to follow debian's build rules. or make change to u-boot-menu to fit armbian's kernel.

Hi there, while the customize-image.sh got some attention lately because of OMV integration, I've started a try to enhance the customization process. At the moment any changes to the script are valid for the whole buildenv. That might be good when building just one image but all over I think thats not a good situation, especially for automated building or with more then one customization. I startet to define a $CUSTOM Buildvar and redefined the script locations, starting with the following changes: - delete customize-image.sh an overlay dir - placed it under config/customizations with following layout *-chroot.sh, *-host.sh, …

Why do I want the source code? Well I am working with an Allwinner H5 board (Orange Pi PC 2), getting a RTOS to run on it, and want to study some of the device drives. I have found the Armbian sources for the H3 quite valuable in this way. So I spent the bulk of the afternoon and got nowhere. My desktop is a Fedora System. Hello all, maybe I missed that part in the docs or in another thread... In fact, I haven't found a solution. I'd like to include a custom kernel repository in the build process (maybe in kernel-only mode) and select that in the interface if available. Either include a remote directory (github...) or some local directory. That all for easily trying things out without using the single-patches directory but using the armbian building environment. I couldn't find the lines in the build scripts, where I easily can "hardcode" such a kernel tree. Ultimate way would be an additional option for a custom kernel tree, chooseable via the menu. 21. Hello, I've got a problem with DNS resolving and customize-image.sh. One setup works (home), one setup does not (office). Both setups are OS X (different major versions), Virtual Box (different major versions), Network Bridging and Ubuntu 14.04. Building images (Banana Pi M1/M2/R1 jessie next) without customize-image.sh works perfectly, espacially the apt-get stuff, which needs DNS resolving. The working home setup uses dynamic (DHCP) private RFC1918 IPs (and/or public IPv6 IPs). The nonworking office setup uses public static IPv4 IPs for OS X and Ubuntu. The build process works flawlessly until customize-image.sh is executed. Some excerpts of cust…

In recent weeks, I have been testing a new approach to using the source code for external WiFi modules (RTL). Previously, I regularly got build environment crash issues due to unpredictable source updates for EXTRAWIFI. These sources are scattered in different places and absolutely do not predictably change, breaking the kernel build. I'm tired of tracking such situations and regularly spending time creating emergency patches to restore the build process (or having to temporarily disable the EXTRAWIFI build). I compiled and placed all the sources in one controlled GIT. I still have them my GIT, but if your decide to switch to a new version of the build, it is advisable t…

  24. There's been discussion in the past of switching to a YY.MM naming convention for releases (similar to Ubuntu) [citation needed -- I think it may be buried deep inside a github discussion] How does that impact us as a rolling release? What do we want to convey with our versions/releases? Should we do monthly releases? quarterly? I do think time-based releases would help us with priority.

I've been studying and working on Dynamic Device-Tree Overlays since awhile, but after hard work, I've finally got a working prototype using the work from Pantelis Antoniou. During last few days, I was doing debugging to find out why it wasn't working, even if I got the ConfigFS working, it was refusing to grab my simple overlay test. I've finally figured out this afternoon : the Root/Base DTB need also to be compiled with the "symbols" list generated with the Antoniou's version of "dtc". So, I will probably prepare a patch soon and submit it thru a PR.

  29. Hey, I'd like to build an image closer to mainline Debian (normal MOTD, wicd instead of network manager) with a few extra packages (nginx, mariadb, ...) and openbox for the DE targeted at an OrangePi Plus 2E, any suggestions or guidance on how to edit the build scripts to create something like this? Currently doing this all with Ansible after copying it to eMMC, but I figure it'd be a big time savings to prebuild an image with the right DE and software on a more powerful box.

Hi, I'm looking for the simplest way to provide a custom uboot configuration to the Armbian build system. I have read (I think I did not miss something obvious) the documentation pages how to customize Armbian build, but the doc is mostly focused on specifying alternate source version or applying custom patches, while I only need a way to specify an already existing uboot config (generated with make menuconfig from the existing, installed Armbian sources). What would be the best way to tell Armbian to use an alternate uboot configuration? Thanks, Emmanuel.

Hey, I'm trying to lock kernel version to 4.11. The documentation is talking about the variable ARMBIAN_MAINLINE_KERNEL_VERSION, which does not do anything, as the script does not take it into account and still clone the last version of kernel (4.13) I cheat and copy KERNELBRANCH='branch:linux-4.11.y' instead in userpatches/lib.config which seems to do the job. What is wrong then ? Documentation or me ? Thanks Florian

Hi, while testing with various sun8i legacy builds with connected display it came to my attention that kernel always panics at shutdown (in fact I was all the time doing a reboot so it took me some time to notice this). I tried to replace our rmmod example here with this code for module in $(cut -f1 -d' ' </proc/modules) ; do rmmod -f ${module} ; done But to no avail. Still on shutdown or reboot the kernel panics, waits 10 seconds and reboots then. Behaviour might be related to recent kernel additions (FriendlyARM Matrix stuff)? And the other question is which drawbacks the above code could have?
