Hello First issue: With the 5.4.18-sunxi64 kernel when you select in Armbian-config to install kernel headers it installs the wrong version, it install kernel headers for 5.3 something instead of the 5.4.18. The way that I was able to work is by compiling the 5.4.18-sunxi64 Linux version including the Kernel headers. I have attached it here. Second issue: When "make scripts" and make modules_prepare instead of link to the 5.4.18-sunxi64 it creates a link for modules in 5.4.18 which makes the modules useless, since it doesnt go to the correct /lib/modules library. instead that the modules will be installed in lib/modules/5.…

Does anyone else have to run testdisk regularly after writing Armbian images to SD cards? It may simply be that I've cycles through the 3 or 4 cards that I have here so many times now that they are all on their way out, but it certainly happens on more than 1 card. I've just tried the latest Git version and it's happens with both debootstrap and debootstrap-ng. I used dd in an ubuntu VM to write the SD cards using a USB SD card reader. 9. Today I did compile for some SBCs the kernel 5.9.1 dev but had something strange - for me - When I did compile for sunxi I also did get a .deb for sunxi64 and a new sunxi when I did compile for a sunxi64 board. AND as last I did compile for the Odroid C2 (meson64) and I also did get the sunxi and sunxi64 .deb-packages. Is this normal or a new bug? Because in the past I did only get a new .deb-package for the platform which I did actually compile for.

  12. There's been discussion in the past of switching to a YY.MM naming convention for releases (similar to Ubuntu) [citation needed -- I think it may be buried deep inside a github discussion] How does that impact us as a rolling release? What do we want to convey with our versions/releases? Should we do monthly releases? quarterly? I do think time-based releases would help us with priority.

  13. Hello, I've got a problem with DNS resolving and customize-image.sh. One setup works (home), one setup does not (office). Both setups are OS X (different major versions), Virtual Box (different major versions), Network Bridging and Ubuntu 14.04. Building images (Banana Pi M1/M2/R1 jessie next) without customize-image.sh works perfectly, espacially the apt-get stuff, which needs DNS resolving. The working home setup uses dynamic (DHCP) private RFC1918 IPs (and/or public IPv6 IPs). The nonworking office setup uses public static IPv4 IPs for OS X and Ubuntu. The build process works flawlessly until customize-image.sh is executed. Some excerpts of cust…

Hello. I have some problem, building image from source. I try to build legacy kernel, full image, CLI, for Orange Pi PC and Orange Pi One (the two i have), but it always stops at "LD kernel/built-in.o", with the following error: [ error ] ERROR in function compile_kernel [ common.sh:177 ] on both platforms. I try Ubuntu Xenial and Debian Jessie, same error at the same place, so i don't think it's OS related. I delete the source and git clone again, but this not helped. I also try to build the same image (5.14_Ubuntu_xenial_3.4.112, CLI) for my A20 Lamobo R1 and it builds with no errors. So there must be something with H3 only. As far as i see, line 176 and 177 of…

  17. Hey, I'd like to build an image closer to mainline Debian (normal MOTD, wicd instead of network manager) with a few extra packages (nginx, mariadb, ...) and openbox for the DE targeted at an OrangePi Plus 2E, any suggestions or guidance on how to edit the build scripts to create something like this? Currently doing this all with Ansible after copying it to eMMC, but I figure it'd be a big time savings to prebuild an image with the right DE and software on a more powerful box.

  18. I have machines available at work, but I loose quite a big amount of time fighting with proxy issues. I also have VM available with proxy almost correctly configured (some protocols/ports don't work, like for adding gpg key), but the disks aren't big enough. At home, I have network without any proxy, but it's not that good... So, I was wondering if I could try and build Armbian on the cloud... for free. I tried several websites like google cloud and other services offering Docker, but I haven't found any with enough disk space. Is anyone of you building in the cloud? Thanks.

  26. I hope you can understand my question just from the title but here's more information in case you need it. BACKGROUND ON MY END GOAL IN CASE YOU HAVE ADVICE: I'm attempting to create a hardened linux image for running on my nanoPC-t4. I gotta give you guys props because Armbian appears to be wayyyyy ahead of the alternative distributions I checked out (gentoo/arch/lubuntu) in terms of support/customizability/documentation for ARM development. As a first step, I'm trying to build & boot a hardened Linux kernel. After some googling, I settled on this repo as my best option for free & open-source hardened kernel sources (unless anyone has a better suggestion)…

Today i wanted to try some changes an build a new kernel for my H3 PCPlus. When I executed compile.sh i got a Message that the script was outdated. So i copied a newer Version from lib to my root directory. I made thechanges i did before: Set KERNEL_Configure to "yes" and set DEST_LANG="de_DE.UTF-8" (that was the only way to get a clean translated german Desktop before..) Now I get a warning Message: [ warn ] Can't update since you made changes to: compile.sh When I hit Enter the next thing happens: The Toolchan is downloaded every time. Is this really necessary? I have only a volume based Internet connection... Regards

  28. In my customize-image.sh I need to dowload source via git and make it like user and not like root. Example of customize-image.sh: git clone https://github.com/xxx/xxx /home/pi/xxx su -c "sudo -S /home/pi/xxx/xxx.sh" - pi This work when I build image for OrangePi4 (and all other rk3399 board) It dosen't work when build image for sun8i board like OrangePi Lite. Both git and su command return error and compilation fail. This happen with legacy and mainline kernel, with ubuntu or debian.

  29. hey there, compilation noob here. I want to build my own image via vagrant and set it up already, because Armbian is the only OS* which provides an integrated option for an encrypted rootfs (preferrably on another drive than the sd-card, because of performance) without manually fiddling around. In recent weeks, I have been testing a new approach to using the source code for external WiFi modules (RTL). Previously, I regularly got build environment crash issues due to unpredictable source updates for EXTRAWIFI. These sources are scattered in different places and absolutely do not predictably change, breaking the kernel build. I'm tired of tracking such situations and regularly spending time creating emergency patches to restore the build process (or having to temporarily disable the EXTRAWIFI build). I compiled and placed all the sources in one controlled GIT. I still have them my GIT, but if your decide to switch to a new version of the build, it is advisable t…

A little bit OT, but what is the recommended way to sort a dts file? I commonly see patches, where maintainers keep requesting for nodes in a dts file to be sorted alphabetically, but didn't find any way to achieve this? I tired a simple `dtc -I dts -O dts -s xxx.dts` but the output contains symbols that I don't really need.

Hello all, maybe I missed that part in the docs or in another thread... In fact, I haven't found a solution. I'd like to include a custom kernel repository in the build process (maybe in kernel-only mode) and select that in the interface if available. Either include a remote directory (github...) or some local directory. That all for easily trying things out without using the single-patches directory but using the armbian building environment. I couldn't find the lines in the build scripts, where I easily can "hardcode" such a kernel tree. Ultimate way would be an additional option for a custom kernel tree, chooseable via the menu. Can someone point me into …

A thought occurred to me while watching my machine sync a bunch of repos while running the Armbian build script, and I couldn't help wondering: Could we put the board support patches into their own repo separate from the build scripts themselves? More specifically: board support for "Boards of Interest" to the Armbian maintainers would be in whatever "official" repos we dedicate, I recommend separating per board family or SoC board support for CSC goes into, predictably, a CSC repo board support for EOL boards can be spun off into their own repo TV boxes go into a TV box repo Advantages: Supporting every pet …

This might be more targeted towards security, but building Armbian should not be as a root/privileged user... https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/#how-to-start OpenWRT builds fine as a normal user account, does not need elevated access. Also - FWIW - the local build directory should be armbian, not build - too many other things use /build. @Igor-- thoughts here?

I want Armbian start and auto-login with pi account and run my linuxfb-based full-screen application. It seems like customize-image.sh is the right place to create a new account on target image. But how can I disable that startup poll to create a new user, change password, etc? Thanks

This allows wider testing for those who like to build experimental things Makes the creator of the branch responsible for keeping it up to date gets flattened out and merged into "master" or a "next" waiting for a revision bump PR's should be used on anything anyone is not 100% certain of to g…
