Hello, Since a week I try moving the OS on the sdcard to an attached SSD. OS: Armbian 5.65 Ubuntu Xenial 3.4.113 desktop Because the BPIM1 has a genuime SATA interface it should work. I have found dozens of tutorials how to do this. Until now I did not find any tutorial that works. Of course I started with nand-install expecting this would work out of the box. But after the install and rebooting I got the notification that it couldn't find the ssd. I guess I have to change something in the bootloader on the sdcard? (I am not a Linux expert but an enthustiastic Linux user) Is there any working tutorial including the final…

Hi, I've read a previous topic about it but it was a bit inconclusive. My question is simple: can the OTG port be turned on on the legacy kernel? Is it just a matter of setting up the right bits in the script.bin/fex file? Or is it missing some other stuff? Currently I can use that port on Bananian. Since this board only has 2 USB ports, it's nice to be able to use the OTG port to connect a keyboard, since the other 2 ports have HDDs connected. Thanks and good work!!

1) The included Android image gives a lot of CPU failures when checking with the TTL cable. 2) When adding an Gigabit Ethernet dongle (in this case a Plugable one ~ ASIX Electronics Corp. AX88179 Gigabit Ethernet), the interface name will something similar to enx+Mac address. To replace this a file as the following one must be created: /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules Containing (remember to replace THE_REAL_MAC_ADDRESS for the displayed enx+Mac interface address: SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="THE_REAL_MAC_ADDRESS", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth0" 3) When making an apt-g…

Hi there! I've just compiled from armbian buil tools a new image for Orange Pi 3 LTS. Then flash it on sdcard, anything was well, but armbian doesn't start at all. Nothing on the HDMI, nothing on the debug serial. Also LED doesn't light. I've tried two images: ubuntu jammy with GNOME and next case XFCE. Both cases didn't work. I've downloaded prebuilt image from armbian.org and it starts well. In my opinion, some problem with custom images in u-boot. but I don't know how to give a diagnosis.

@ag123, @c0rnelius, and anyone else that has interest in sound on these devices. I have been able to put together a patch that enables audio for H161/H618 devices. So far only audio on HDMI works. Analog audio is still generating an error on startup. The patches were taken from a git repository by warpme: https://github.com/warpme/minimyth2/tree/master/script/kernel/linux-6.6/files , and probably came from the Zunlong SDK. A lot of the code was written by Allwinner. @pixdrift generated a version of the patches for Armbian and I continued to work on them. I have a git repository if anyone would like to test, partic…

I have seen many tutorials about connecting real time clock hardware on Orange Pi and Raspberry Pi. What i didn't like was removing of fake-hwclock service, because I want that RTC works when it is connected, and fake-hwclock when RTC is not connected. Therefore, I changed /sbin/fake-hwclock script to work in this way. So, here is how to do this, tested on OrangePi+2E, Armbian Ubuntu legacy kernel: Purchase cheap DS3231 module on eBay (cca. $1) like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DS3231-AT24C32-IIC-Modul-High-Precision-Real-Time-Clock-Module-Arduino-New-/292041844936?hash=item43ff0ce8c8:g:d80AAOSwdGFYtsFP Put battery in module. Hello I have a BPi-R1 with Igor's 3.2 image (http://www.igorpecovnik.com/2014/09/07/banana-pi-debian-sd-image/) that runs as a router (with pppoe) and nginx/php5/mysql config for my wife's blog and also with ez-ipupdate for dynamic dns I have a nasty issue... once every 2 or 3 days, my board freezes for no aparent reason It does this even if root is on SD card (only sd card connected) or HDD (I have a modified mSATA adapter to get power from 3,3V SATA power connector... I removed the 3,3V regulator and added a thick wire from the 3,3V provided by the board through the SATA connector) Also I moved from this configuration: to this fan gpio controlled (witch was ver…

Hi, I just wanted to report this bug. Latest Armbian Buster images for OPi Lite 2 don't work. When they're booted up, it takes 30 seconds for the device to freeze completely. The screen, keyboard, network, everything is frozen after less than a minute. I downgraded to a release from a month ago and it boots up correctly.

Hi there, this is continuation of my previous thread about problems with my OPiPC+. 1). "OOB" Armbian Buster, looks working OK, not "ported" all soft / configs from another one. 2). Armbian Jessie upgraded up to Buster, mainly for mosquitto, OpenHAB2, PostgreSQL 11 (for logical replication). Now I have copied everything (only different UUIDS) from working /boot directory to the one with problems. (kernel, initrd, etc). What I do not understand, is fact, that on "good" HTOP shows 4 cores, on "bad" one only 1 core, performance is horrible (OpenHAB startup in minutes). OpenHab (I suspect) can cause whole system to hang - ping works but no…

Is anyone else having issues getting incoming ssh to work with their OPI zero? I've tried both: Armbian_5.24_Orangepizero_Debian_jessie_3.4.113.img and Armbian_5.24_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_3.4.113.img In both cases I was able to get a WiFi connection, and am able to get out to the internet to download new packages (apt-get). However, I can't seem to get incoming ssh or ping to work. It's as if the device is invisible.

Hi all, I'm not very familiar with linux scripting especially for controlling GPIO on Orange Pi. So my question is: is it possible to connect a fan to a GPIO port that is activated when temperature goes above a given value? Does anyone have a script for that or can suggest how to get it done? I have a plastic housing for the board and a fan attached to it that is constantly running. But for 95% of the time I don't have load on the pi and don't need the fan... Thanks in advance

Having invested many, many hours getting the video out to work on my recently purchased Orange Pi Zero kit, I'd like to leave this heads up for the next person having trouble with video out. In my case, none of the advice I could find in this forum or elsewhere seemed to make any difference. If you find yourself in a similar situation, here are some things you should know. The latest Armbian images for the OrangePi Zero enable composite video out by default. It should just work. (Well at least the Ubuntu image -- I never actually verified Debian Jesse worked after I fixed my expansion board.) You should NOT need to fiddle with /etc/modules or .fex files. Altho…

Hi everybody, I am looking for some advice and help for troubleshooting. Here is the current situation regarding my cubietruck: I have installed Armbian Stretch (mainline kernel 4.14.y or 4.17.y) from here https://www.armbian.com/cubietruck/ on a SD-card using etcher on Ubuntu. If I power up the cubietruck 3 out of 5 times it won't boot. If it starts I can just fine ssh into the system and everything seems to be o.k. But after some time if I start to do something e.g. apt-get update / apt-get upgrade the system will freeze at some point. If i let the cubietruck on it's own it'll run for several hours without freezing. So the problem seems to be related eith…

Hi, i'm working on a hdmi cec driver for H3 and i'm looking for some feedback how the driver works. I have tested the driver with OrangePi PC and a Samsung TV. I have pushed my driver to github : https://github.com/jodamm/linux/tree/sun8i or here is a patch file that can be placed in userpatches for armbian toolchain. The driver can be loaded with modprobe hdmi_cec . I have modified libcec to work with this driver : https://github.com/jodamm/libcec or again a patch file for libcec.

Hi everyone, I was doing speed tests on the XR819 and started looking at the driver code. My this looks very similar to the cw1200 driver already in mainline Linux. I started modifying the cw1200 driver to try and get it to work with the XR819. Apart from someone renaming functions and adding a bunch of important junk for XR819, the drivers are quite similar. I've modified the cw1200 driver up to the point that it's loading the boot_cw1x60.bin ( boot_xr819.bin ) file, but for some reason the bootloader is returning an error instead of success. I don't think it's possible to diagnose this without the datasheet from ST. Clearl…

Yesterday, I tried to use the digital IO in my opi zero3, with the Python GPIO package from https://opi-gpio.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ by Richard Hull It depends on having sysfs files in /sys/class/gpio/ My original opi zero has these files and it works, but my opi zero3 doesn’t have these files I learned that /sys/class/gpio is created if the linux kernel is configured with a specific option ON, as suggested in the documentation: https://github.com/rm-hull/OPi.GPIO https://linux-sunxi.org/GPIO Also, a developer has made a change on the opi.GPIO project to support opi zero3 https://github.com/rm-hull/OPi.GPIO…

It seems that the latest Nano Pi Neo Air Boards and the relatively new Orange Pi Zero Plus 2 both use a modified version of the AP6212 WiFi+Bluetooth module, which is physically labelled as AP6212A. This new module apparently requires different drivers to operate. From my own experience, I was unable to get the internal WiFi module to work on a Nano Pi Neo Air (with AP6212A) using any of the Armbian distributions. However, I was able to get WiFi to work on that board with the Friendly Arm distribution at from https://www.mediafire.com/folder/sr5d0qpz774cs/NanoPi-NEO_Air#oc15bwqbuxgxe. I just received a second Nano Pi Neo Air from a different vendor, and this …

Hello folks, Been working on making I2S dacs work on the Orange Pi Zero, after reading on a few pages i got crazy and almost gave up and then i did some playaround and managed to make it work! And this is how i did! I am using examples from the topic here, as it was well written until i had to figure things out myself because of that stupid wifi_enable on PA20 which also is the data out on the OPI zero Thread: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/759-i2s-on-orange-pi-h3/ First up it requires a bit of soldering, removing the R69 and adding a small wire is required to access the DIN(data in) or so called PA20. What i did was just simply adding a header so i can …

I just upgraded (using a fresh image with the 5.69 image) one of my SOPINE A64 modules from Armbian Xenial - legacy kernel 3.10.y to Armbian Bionic - mainline kernel 4.19.y. The onboard ethernet will no longer work. The sopine module is connected to a clusterboard instead of a sopine baseboard, but the NIC is on the module so it should not make a difference. On Xenial 3.10.y kernel the driver loaded for the NIC is the sunxi_geth driver, on bionic 4.19.y kernel it is the st_mac100 driver. I am working on a new project which uses the Banana Pi to capture USB output destined for a printer in order to log the output from a system. The BananaPi will need to be a simple plugin which sits between the machine and a connected USB printer - so we want to: a ) Mimic the connected USB printer (so that the machine thinks it still has the original printer attached) b ) Capture the output from the machine c ) Send the captured output onwards to the printer. The BananaPi seemed the obvious choice as it has the built in USB OTG port and we would use the gadget printer to mimic the attached printer. Unfortunately, the Bananian images do not support the gadget printer a…

I've set up my new OPi Zero as a wireless AP running the latest Armbian build for the OPi0. It's working mostly great. My one problem I'm having is that my speeds seem to be throttled to 5-6Mbps. I connect wirelessly from my phone and run a speed test and get 5-6Mbps. If I connect directly to my router, I get 30Mbps. I have a Rpi3 set up about the same as the OPi0, and when I connect it up I get the full 30. Each time I've tested with the OPi and RPi, my phone is the only device connected. So, I've poked around online and I can't seem to figure out if it's a hardware limitation or if it's a software/driver/setting limitation. Also, if it's the latter, how/where to…

I recently updated my Orange Pi Zero Plus to the 5.3 Kernel and since then it failed a few times. I tried to find the reason why it hangs, and when connected using ssh, I get the message kernel:[ 275.633561] thermal thermal_zone0: critical temperature reached (100 C), shutting down After seeing this, I started a program that generates load and watched the temperature and CPU in htop. Temperature goes up to 100°, but the CPU stays at 1.3Ghz. After downgrading to kernel 4.19.63 it works as expected again. Temperature raises, but then the CPU speed is limited, first to 1.01Ghz, then 960MHz and then temperature is always low enough to stay at …

Hello, There seems to be scant details about the NanoPi Neo 2 LTS, so I thought I'd contribute some. My testing is much less formal than how some would measure it. What I especially like to do in the way of network speed testing are the "worst-case scenarios". My way of invoking a sort of "torture test" is to mostly test upload speeds (as they tend to be slower than download speeds), both large files (much easier), as well as uploading many tiny files (much more gruelling to store, so is therefore a major "torture test"). Having said that, I'll usually favor all-GbE networking (noting which I'm using, GbE or wifi), because I know GbE will b…

Having my Orange Pi One now for two weeks. I've compiled a new kernel with the great compile tool of Armbian. Now I have AppleTalk as module in the kernel ( 3.4.110 - kernel/net/appletalk/appletalk.ko) It seems that the Ethernet device or driver does not understand AppleTalk. Although Ethernet works... well IP does. If I use a USB Network device (as eth1 with dm9601 module) I have no problem, but the on board network card refuses to work with the AppleTalk software Netatalk. It start, but the OrangePi dioesn't see other AppleTalk devices. With the USB network card, it works fine. It is a pity, because the Orange Pi One is really the cheapest AppleTalk router …

I have question. OZPI v3 has support for hardware DS18B20 thermal sensor via w1-gpio ? In armbian-config when we got to the “system” section and select “Hardware” is not existing w1-gpio or OZPI v3 has not support for w1-gpio hardware ? Does not work because there is no device tree file (in the /boot/dtb/allwinner/) and we need to create it ??? like for OZPI v2 ?: 1. All, So in this example, let's use SMB, however it does seem to apply to any transport method i use. I seem to have an issue when writing to the Pi whereby the throughput will peak to 50MBps then drop right down and float around 9MBps. <a href="https://ibb.co/fSXXRG"><img src="https://thumb.ibb.co/fSXXRG/write.png" alt="write" border="0"></a> Local disk test shows shows circa 450 Rear and 50MBps write. I get the same results if i make use of the onboard flash or attach an SSD to the SATA port. Does anyone know what's happening here? it's not the source device that is causing this, It appear…

Hi there! I have been playing around with my NanoPi Neo 2 plus, I managed to get initramfs working thanks to the kernel config of armbian. I have just noticed a problem: only the first of the two USBs works. The second is completely dead. Big disclaimer: I am using an HTC PSU that provides only 1A, not the 2A that should be fed, although I do not know if this could be the cause of the issue. Aside from this problem, I cannot see other issues. Wifi is working and I disabled bluetooth. lsusb without anything plugged in to USB: Bus 008 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 005 Device 001: ID…

Hello all, I've been struggling to build Armbian for the Orange Pi Pc all day today, it worked fine yesterday then today nothing. I've just been looking through the repo at github and it appears that all of the patches for building sun8i-h3.dtsi etc have been moved to linux-dev does this mean that from now on we need to build the dev kernel not the next kernel for H3 devices?

According to http://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-pc-plus/ If I understand correctly, the only difference is that PC+ has additional eMMC and WiFi. So a system with vanilla kernel for Opi PC+ should also work on the PC. Or are there other hardware differences? The page states: "serial console only, no HDMI." Does this vanilla system support Ethernet yet, so one can login via ssh after installation? My targeted use would be a tvheadend server (without local video for the moment).

Hello, I leave in a place where we occasionally get really heavy storms or the power gets cut for some reason. This most often does not happen more than five minutes, but there has been longer cases. Now, this poses an obvious problem with my headless server (Orange Pi PC btw). I went on a week trip last month, to discover the development board I needed was completely down. I called a friend and the power had indeed been cut off in my neighbourhood, but my server would no longer respond over SSH. I hard reset the server by power cable and tried restarting sshd (after getting home a week later), just to get warning that the action of the service was queued and afterwards w…

Hi, I am trying to make the OPI Zero boot with the help of the onboard SPI with the goal to boot from an usb drive and not from the sdcard. What steps should be executed. I only managed to get the Xenial image to work with my 512Mb board... so that is what I want to use. I assume... I need to make u-boot work with the sdcard... move the whole thing to the usb drive (with the u-boot) and than populate somehow the SPI with the image of an SPL, which would get it up through the u-boot on the usb. So I would need some in depth guidance (best would be some example commands to be used), what steps and tools should be executed to make it work. Thanks in advance &…

There are two USB dongles on my Orange Pi One box, one is a USB Bluetooth in USB-OTG port and other is a mu7601 USB WiFi in the USB port. When I switched it from legacy kernel to lastest development kernel 4.11.x, the bluetooth card disappeared. So I exchange two dongles each other , the one in USB port works, and the one in USB-OTG port always failed. Is there any solution?

Everything came up fine so I set up the wifi to my local network using nmtui. Again no problems. I did an apt-get update and upgrade and rebooted, all OK again. Having SSHed into the device I get very sluggish performance and pinging from another machine on the lan I see hugely variable pings ie variations from a few ms to over a second. I installed wavemon and it shows a very strong wifi signal (as expected). The ping…

Hi, I am new with OrangePi plus 2E which I bought after I have great fun with several Raspberrys. In first moment I was very disappointed with software and documentation, than I found Armbian. Well, on all of my boards and computers I run Ubuntu, so I choose Armbian Ubuntu desktop edition. With legacy kernel everything runs good, but I prefer mainline kernel, and there I run into the problem. I have no video output on HDMI. I tried nightly build of Armbian and updated legacy desktop edition. Same result, no video over HDMI. Googling about this gives me lot of confusing results so I decide to ask here. Is video over HDMI on OrangePi …

Hi, I have a new Orange Pi+ 2 and I was trying to write armbian image from: http://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-plus-2/(legacy build) but I couldn't make it work. Steps that I follow on Windows 10: - Download 7z file from armbian - Uncompress - Quick format SanDisk 32GB with SDFormatter - Write .raw file with Rufus 2.0.1 (stable). All preferences by default. - Insert micro SD to Orange Pi+ 2 - Connect HDMI, keyboard and power supply. - Green LED lights continuously. Why?? When the green LED was on, nothing happens. I had tried to install the official .img builds and just works. Why I couldn't with armbian bui…

Hi, I noticed today that I'm getting those ARISC Errors again. I'm running the 5.05 server version which I ran apt-get upgrade on. I got the same when I tested out the new 5.10 image aswell. (Upgrading to 5.10 3.4.112 or using the new image wont let me compile the 'make scripts' either) [ 1424.305736] [ARISC ERROR] :message process error [ 1424.305763] [ARISC ERROR] :message addr : f004b840 [ 1424.305778] [ARISC ERROR] :message state : 5 [ 1424.305792] [ARISC ERROR] :message attr : 2 [ 1424.305805] [ARISC ERROR] :message type : 30 [ 1424.305818] [ARISC ERROR] :message result : ff [ 1424.305831] [ARISC WARING] :callback not install [ 1424.305849] [cpu_freq] ERR…

Hi all! I just flashed https://dl.armbian.com/nanopiduo/Ubuntu_bionic_next.7z and it doesn't appear to detect the onboard wifi. ip a only shows lo and eth0. I'm going to try the expansion board with Ethernet onboard and see what shows up. OK, just tried this on a adapter board with Ethernet and now there's an eth0 and Wired Connection 1. It appears the eth0 is really the wifi adapter, but nmtui treats it like an Ethernet connection. Same issue with https://dl.armbian.com/nanopiduo/Debian_stretch_next.7z Wifi not detected, but eth0 is detected instead of wlan0.

Firstly many thanks to all the hard work from the Armbian developers - it installed onto the eMMC of my new Orange Pi Plus2E first time with no problems I'm trying to benchmark the board (with a fan/heatsink) and without. The standard Armbian runs it at a maximum of 1.296GHz but I'd like to run it faster. I'm new to using fex, but this appears to push it up to 1.536GHz with a Vdd of 1.5V: cd bin2fex /boot/bin/orangepiplus2e.bin orangepiplus2e.heatsink.fex sed -i "s/1296000/1536000/g; s/1320/1500/" orangepiplus2e.heatsink.fex cp /etc/default/cpufrequtils /etc/default/cpufrequtils~ sed -i "s/1296000/1536000/" /etc/default/cpufrequtils fex2bin orangepiplus2e.heatsink.…

New toys to play The NanoPi Neo Core and Core2 are the Core-PCB without Connectors. Only Pin-holes in 2.54mm Pitch. But as the Pictures did show - there will be a Docking-Board like on the NanoPi Duo The price for the normal NanoPi Neo jumps from $7,99 to $9,99 and the new Neo Core now costs $7,99 (256MB and no eMMC) BUT has optional - also like the Neo Core2 (here 8GB default) - 8GB eMMC (512MB and 8GB eMMC = +$10 on the $7,99 Neo Core) The Neo Core2 does cost $24,99 but do have 1GB of Ram and (default) 8GB of eMMC (more options later). (long description show also - a obsolete? - option for only 512MB. But the board…

It took me some time to figure how to make it work, so I decided to save it for some poor soul who would need it in future. (I am a Windows guy so this stuff is a bit alien for me). I bought <$2 WiFi dongle for my new Orange PI PC from here: http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/7899695282.html?orderId=76846564349160 I am running latest "ARMBIAN jessie 3.4.112-sun8i". The chip was detected by the OS but didn't work: lsusb gave me this: Bus 004 Device 002: ID 148f:7601 Ralink Technology, Corp. I tried several solutions: installing "firmware-ralink" package, compiling various sources and getting "loboris kernel" using code from this git: https://github.co…

Hi, So far was working with headless Armbian images. Now I need to attach an HDMI monitor to my OPi ONE. Generated a desktop Armbian 5.24 jessie kernel 3.4.113, attached the HDMI monitor and booted. I saw the inital seconds of U-Boot logging the discovery of the monitor and a few other things and then it went blank. I guess after some reading in the forum that there is no display manager included in the distro or is there some other problem? Is there some build option that we could include a manager (eg KDE/XFCE/etc) in the image generation proccess? Or if there is any guide that gives steps for adding a display manager in Armbian to a not-so-knowledgab…
