Hi all, First of all, I must congratulate the Armbian team for such an amazing job! It is really terrific! I'm using Armbian on a NanoPi Neo where I'm running an application that relies on having low latency UART responses. My application is having a latency of around 10ms and I believe that it might be related to the tick rate defined in the Armbian kernel (http://www.makelinux.net/books/lkd2/ch10lev1sec2). I would like to increase the tick rate, however, I got a little lost when I tried to browse the Armbian repository. I couldn't find the actual Linux Kernel source code. In order to increase the tick rate I need to edit the file /include/asm-"ar…

I am planning a project for a few Orange Pi Lites as multimedia devices. I have been testing applications on the Lite with it unenclosed, and without a heatsink and haven't seen any issues with heat so far (running at 1.2 GHz). Is there a general consensus on if this board should have a heatsink when clocked at 1.2 GHz (and is enclosed)? The intended case design has vents.

Hi, I am trying to use an Orange Pi Zero as a headless music player running MPD connected to a USB DAC. I have everything set up and it works well, but now I would like to add a momentary push button connected to a gpio pin to enable me to soft shutdown the Orange Pi Zero. I've done the same with python scripts that I've found in the Rune Audio forum (which runs on Arch Linux) for the Raspberry Pi, but I understand that the Pi Zero pins are different from the Raspberry Pi. This is the script I used on the Raspberry Pi #!/usr/bin/env python2 import RPi.GPIO as GPIO import time import subprocess GPIO.setmode(GPIO.BOARD) #Select unused GPIO header pin…

Hello, currently I am working on my Orange pi one system (Armbian Linux orangepione 3.4.113-sun8i #10 SMP PREEMPT Thu Feb 23 19:55:00 CET 2017 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux) to get my ILI9341-TFT display to work using the fb_ili9341 kernel module. I have read a lot of documentation and the display works (using the fb_ili9341 module) attached to my cubeitruck (also running armbian). I think that the problem is the GPIO- kernel module of the Orange PI one. These are the output messages in the syslog file after "modprobe gpio-sunxi": [ 343.417378] gpio_pin_1(7) gpio_request [ 343.417817] gpio_pin_2(8) gpio_request [ 343.4…

First i have to say - if i knew what i am gonna go through, i would never buy this troubled hardware. So don't buy it too. But if you are already strayed like me, i decided to share my modifications, to make this inconsiderate piece of hardware useful. With this mods the device finally work as i need it to and i am fully happy with hardware part. Not so happy with software though, but that's another story. The main reason for me, to buy this router, except pc like capabilities, was SATA+SATA power connector. I used my old router with usb HDD, so it sounded good to have it in box and on native sata interface. Silly me, who would thought this will be the most troubled …

I have an OrangePi Plus. I downloaded and installed "Armbian_5.25_Orangepiplus_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113.7z" (actually, I installed the image file from inside that archive) onto a micro-SD/TF card (16GB) and managed to get it to talk to my monitor (thanks, armbian, for "h3disp"). I searched the web, and this forum, for instructions on how to install a graphical desktop on top of the particular Ubuntu Xenial flavor and found nothing I could make sense of. I tried the following: sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-fbdev ubuntu-desktop I got the Ubuntu greeter, but when I log in, I get a stock desktop background with no sidebars or menu bar. I can move the…

Hello everyone, newbie here just starting with armbian Recently I bought a cheap orange pi zero and I cannot connect via ssh through wifi. I read multiple threads regarding that issue however I cant say I understood everything I read. So, in a nutshell, is there any solution available? As many users reported, I can connect via ssh over etherner or wifi when ethernet is plugged in but not when only a wifi connection is available.

I have an ADC and DAC board built for Raspberry Pi which has 2 slaves on the SPI bus, requiring ce0 and ce1. This works fine on the Raspberry pi 3, which installs devices /dev/spidev0.0 and also /dev/spidev/0.1, to access each slave. On the OPi PC I can access slave 0, but not slave 1. In /dev on the Opi there is only a single spidev device: /dev/spidev0.0 and no spidev0.1 device. I have modified the script.bin (I am using Armbian legacy OS - Armbian_5.14_Orangepipc_Debian_jessie_3.4.112_desktop) by editing the .fex (and making a new script.bin) to add a spi_cs1 = port:PC07<3><default><default><default> line. But adding this prevents any spide…

Dear all, I am using armbian Mainline Debian Jessie 4.9.7 and 4.9.12 on a Banana Pi Pro (A20). Coming from legacy and fex, I came a long way learning a lot about Device Trees, Overlays, etc. the last 2 weeks. I even compiled some dev kernels to experiment. I currently struggle with with the OTG port. I have two devices on the primary slots and need to get the OTG in host mode to attach my third device. I've read that the OTG is not providing 5V to the device. Therefore, I use Pin4 5V DC and Pin6 GND of the 40Pin header. It works well when connecting Device #3 on USB 1 or 2. But not on OTG. I used dmesg to track devices. Is there an…

Hi, I tried to safe-upgrade (apt-get upgrade) Trusty today but got the following notice: Failed to fetch http://apt.armbian.com/dists/trusty/main/binary-armhf/Packages It would be OK to dist-upgrade to Xenial anyway as described in the Docs ... apt-get install update-manager-core do-release-upgrade -d # further to xenial apt-get dist-upgrade ... but I think it would be a good idea to start from a proper Trusty. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance Mark

To replace my dead home server (which was just a dead laptop anyway), I picked up an Orange Pi PC for cheap locally. After solving power supply issues, I tested GUI and media performance on the board, with an aim to perhaps use the composite out for emulation, before concluding that this wasn't the best choice for the board. (That, and it'd kill my performance for the more useful server aspects.) While technically impressive, it wasn't really worth it when my PC is right there for me to use to play those video files I would on the board. Looking into the matter, it seems the ideal solution for a file server would be to install the Mainline kernel to benefit fr…

Why not to add lirc_gpio support to NanoPiNeo Air ? Even if it is not planned, I try to use this patch : https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib/blob/master/patch/kernel/sun7i-default/0050-lircgpio_and_raw.patch Kernel compilation is ok for me : apt-get -y install git git clone https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib --depth 1 cp lib/compile.sh . ./compile.sh I try to apply this patch now : ~/crosscompile/lib/patch/kernel/sun7i-default/0050-lircgpio_and_raw.patch I expected to have a lircgpio.ko somewhere, but nothing. Is there a procedure or a tutorial or some help to build a driver ?

Hiya, Using a Banana Pi M1 as a factory production tester in China, running Armbian Mainline 4.6.3. Looking for any means of finding a unique and permanent MAC address for opilites. Is there some kind of serial number or other unique number of any kind in an H3 SOC or in something on an OPI Lite board that could be used to derive a MAC ? As things currently are I either have to manually setup the mac for each board I build - in a conf file in /etc/modprobe.d or live with the fact that the board comes up with a new mac/ip with every boot.

Hi, I have problems with the versions "Armbian 5.25 Orangepizero Debian jessie default" and 5.26. When i install Nginx, the directory "nginx" is created in /var/log/. After a "reboot" the directory is then "disappeared", not possible to start Nginx. I can create the folder with error.log and access.log and restart Nginx. After this, it runs. After a reboot again, nginx is missig again... Any hints? The same happens with 5.25 and 5.26 on OrangePiOne, so far tested... I thing i'm not the only one with this problem. (I testet with "root" permissions only)

Hi, I have 5.25 without armbian updates - just Debian: Linux lamobo-r1 4.9.7-sunxi #1 SMP Thu Feb 2 01:52:06 CET 2017 armv7l GNU/Linux. When I boot the device, it comes up fine, gets its IP-Address on the WAN port. If I try to restart the network it will not come up, I can access via UART but no longer via Network. If I restart the network from the UART again with the same command the Network comes up. This is how it stops: root@lamobo-r1:~# service networking restart Warning: Unit file of networking.service changed on disk, 'systemctl daemon-reload' recommended. less /var/log/syslog | grep NetworkManager: Spoiler root@la…

I recently updated the OS (apt-get dist-upgrade), for one of my test systems, and subsequent to this Kismet has stopped working with the wlan0 interface. Everything was working properly before this update. I see it (and wlan0mon) showing Promiscuous mode in the output of iwconfig. I'm not really a Linux person, so any pointers on how I can diagnose/repair?

Hi, I did read a lot about temperature and power consumption on this forum. Most is about bad parameters for the Orange Pi H3 boards. I use armbian 5.25 stable with 3.4.113-sun7i kernel. On both i run this same version, the only difference is that i use an other script.bin on the orangepi. The script.bin who is in the distrubution. I dont use a heatsink on both. I noticed the following On the Orange Pi: Load1 is max 0.50 with 2 values of 1.00, avg 0.20-0.25 Load15 is between 0.08 and 0.14 The temperature is between 49 degrees and 52 degrees Celcius The PMU current is between 400 and 800 mA PMU Consu…

Hi guys! I've an Olimex LIME2 EMMC installed in a remote location: I installed it with Olimex provided image of debian Jessie, which has kernel 3.4.103-00033-g9a1cd03-dirty. The installation has been done over internal EMMC and it worked. Now, for various reason I would like to switch to armbian. I would like to install armbian over the existing image. so not to have to reinstall packages ad my local software. I would like to keep the installation on internal 4GB EMMC memory. I'm asking if it's possibile to do it without having to reinstall and possibily over ssh, because the board is in remote location. Thanks for your sug…

Hi. I am new to the MiniPC world and thank you for your help beforehand. I have managed to install ARMBian on my Orange Pi PC + and it occurred to me to use it as a STEAM Link with MOONLIGHT software that gives such good results in its version for Android. The linux version runs from an independent one here. The problem is that it does not let me install the dependencies, I leave them an image. I have tried it from XTerminal as from 'Synaptic Package Mannager' As I say I am new to this, if someone who knows how to operate explained it I would be very grateful. Thank you very much. //------------------------------------------\\ Spoile…

I have couple H3 and A20 devices and all run fine except one - Opi Lite, running latest Arbian (5.26) with built in wifi connected does not close SSH session upon reboot/poweroff. The session eventually times out on client but sometimes I have to kill it manually. There are no modifications to PAM nor systemd-logind configurations and the configuration is exactly the same as on other devices. I'm wondering what may cause this misbehaviour, and how can I fix this? (This topic was created yesterday before db failure/site update and I can't find it now on restored site, I guess it has been lost)

I can connect via ssh after a few minutes, but using a monitor and a screen would help, when there is no network. What am I doing wrong? Greetings, Pille

Hello to all I am using Debian Jessie 5.25 on OPi PC+. And using rpi-monitor for monitoring stuff. I already made a fully working webserver and moved my wordpress to it, CPU usage around 10-20% when taking traffic, so it works like a charm. Today i decided i will use it to download a few big files with wget command. At first i was trying to be smart and save it directly to an ntfs pendrive mounted at usb0. Result - 40% I/O wait CPU usage and limited transfer (maybe 20-30 KB/s). Yes, my pendrive is bad, but hey, not so much. So i cancelled wget and tried to download the same file into /var/ into my SD card (used as system disk). Well, transfer was ok (200kB/s ser…

Hello Armbian-Folks, more than two years ago I purchased a CubieTruck and installed Cubian with kernel 3.4.79 on the microSD. Just a FYI Previously using nmtui-connect and adding a Wifi Config would survive across reboots. Yesterday I nearly burned my orange pi zero because of the faulty LAN cable, after that, everything I plugged into the expansion board couldn't be detected anymore by lsusb or dmesg, it works fine though if I plug in my thumb drive / usb wifi into the usb port on the main board (Next to the LAN port). How do I know for sure that my expansion board is broken and not the pin headers in the main board ? I'm not an electronic guy I don't know anything about soldering and stuff.

On my new orange pi zero I hooked a pl2303 usb converter to the three serial pins and use "screen /dev/ttyUSB4 115200" to connect. This gives garbage on boot, with occasional strings of meaningful info like "Orange Pi" or "Debian". Same converter worked fine on my Raspberry Pi Zero. I'm suspecting the Orange Pi is just too fast and either the pl2303 or my Debian system can't keep up. Does anyone have the serial console working? Should I try a cp2102 instead, or maybe reconfigure to a slower speed? When I configured a DHCP server and hooked it up via ethernet, I can get in fine. USB-touchscreen doesn't work with Cubietruck 3.4.113. The touchscreen well works with versions 4.9.xxx, but doesn't work with 3.4.xxx. I connected the monitor 1920*1080 and a touchscreen to Cubietruck. Cubietruck smartly works in video browse mode, but the mouse and the keypad aren't always convenient for control. Especially at night, too loud clicks. I pasted a touchscreen on the monitor. It works with versions 4.xxx, but video doesn't work. And with versions 3.xxx on the contrary. What I should make that the touchscreen worked with version 3.4.113?

I tested the actual Xenial on my BPP but got a crashdump each time I reboot or shutdown the system. I found, that armhwinfo was causing this crash by removing the module a20_tp. Disabling the line /sbin/modprobe -r $(cut -f1 -d' ' </proc/modules) in /etc/init.d/armhwinfo avoid this problem. This line is part of a patch Thomas Kaiser introduced in October last year. I don't know, if this problem occurs only in my configuration (nothing special, but a connected Lemaker 5" LCD may be the difference), or it is related to the Kernel 3.4.113 only, but it goes reproducably wrong, if this line is active. It cause the oposite of the intention of this patch, because after…

Hi there, I am new to OrangePi and Linux as well and that's probably why I have faced my first problem I could not find an answer on web. I use OP Lite with the latest debian jessie. And there is the problem (or just a bug): after some time of using WiFi (and wwan) I wanted to disable it in order to reduce "excessive" power consumption. So firstly I had disabled it via "nmcli" and after a while I found out about "h3consumption" command. But recently I wanted to install (and download) but none of the above commands were able to re-enable them. Any ideas how to re-enable (besides loading new OS image) ? In addition, I noted that changind "h3consumption" is not a…

Hi, I'm using a xenial system with Kernel 4.9.11-sunxi on LIME2 (actually it's an Olimex A20-SOM with external RTL8211 PHY) and trying to prevent the ethernet from coming up on boot. When turning the system on, the ethernet interface will assign a random MAC address; later on my script sets a proper MAC from an assigned range. Until then the eth0 interface must stay down to prevent the network from being spammed with bogous messages. This is because the ethernet interface chooses a random MAC address when the system boots up; later on a script sets the proper MAC address from an assigned range (along with IP and route configuration); The link must stay down un…

I'm using an Olimex LIME2 board with an A20 processor (actually it's a Olimex A20-SOM, but that shouldn't matter) and trying to use PWM. I have an older image (jessie with Kernel 3.4) where the PWM hardware can be accessed through /sys/class/pwm-sunxi/pwm*/{duty, duty_percent, period, pin, polarity, pulse, run}. Now I'm building a newer image (xenial with Vanilla kernel). It has /sys/class/pwm, but the directory is empty. Any ideas? The fex file is the same for both boards; the relevant section is: [pwm0_para] pwm_used = 1 pwm_period = 10000 pwm_duty_percent = 50 [pwm1_para] pwm_used = 1 pwm_period = 10000 pwm_duty_percent = 50

Hi! I think all fine in my configuration, but not connect on boot, I need to killall -q wpa_supplicant and run /etc/init.d/networking restart to connect. # /etc/network/interfaces iface wlan0 inet static address 192.168.1.200 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.1 pre-up wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf -wB -D <forgot the name> post-down killall -q wpa_supplicant

Hello together, I'm trying to connect an LVDS panel to my BananPro and would like to switching power on/of and backlight on/off throw a GPIO pin. So, first of all, I've added some lines to my DTS file (in &pio section). This is for backlight driver (PH12 is connected to CON2 pin 7): bl_en_pins_a: bl_en@0 { allwinner, pins = "PH12"; allwinner, function = "gpio_out"; allwinner, drive = <SUN4I_PINCTRL_10_MA>; allwinner, pull = <SUN4I_PINCTRL_PULL_DOWN>; }; And this is for enable pin of voltage regulator (PH7 is connected to CON2 pin 6): lcd_power_pins_a: lcd_power@0 { allwinner, pins…

With a little shell script I can switch gpio6 on/off: #!/bin/sh # PWM1 / GPIOA6 P=6 G="/sys/class/gpio/gpio${P}" if [ ! -d "${G}" ]; then echo "Exporting GPIO${P}" echo ${P} > /sys/class/gpio/export echo out > ${G}/direction fi i=100 while [ "$i" -gt 0 ]; do i=`expr $i - 1` sleep .2 echo 1 > ${G}/value sleep .1 echo 0 > ${G}/value done if [ -d "${G}" ]; then echo "Unexporting GPIO${P}" echo ${P} > /sys/class/gpio/unexport fi but I dont see anything which could enable PWM on this pin: root@nanopineo:~# ll /sys/class/gpio/gpio6/ total 0 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Feb 21 11:38 active_low lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 21 11:38 …
