  4. Hi team, This is not exactly Armbian related, however I hope to find some help here, also it can be useful for someone else in custom board development (my case). For testing I have Olimex RK3328-SOM-EVB and RK3318 TV box boards. They both behave the same way. As summary I'm trying to boot Linux using the Bootrom and USB OTG only, in other words without any external boot NVM attached. To archive this I build U-Boot SPL (u-boot-spl.bin), which support SDP protocol via USB OTG. For SDP file transfer I'm using imx_usb tool. The binaries used in the process are: rk3328_uboot_v1.19.250.bin - consists of u-boot-tpl.bi…

  5. Hi, community. I have set up this device from which I'm writing this, installed Armbian from SD card, by sweeping out original FriendlyElec images from the FriendlyElec's partition, so I wiped off the Android and Ubuntu, and copied on it the Armbian image, which appeared with the title "RAW". Booted and installed fine. It works. From armbian-config I managed to boot from an USB Toshiba 1Tb disk. To this part, I have a little but efficient linuxPC, ¡¡¡THANK YOU!!!. I'm trying to compile binaries of STM32, or Arduino devices, comment this to tell details only. Every 5 to 8 bootups, it didn't recognize the USB drive, and dumps a series of Hex data, divided in bunches. S…

  6. I had one OPi5 setup and working properly with one of my TVs. I was running Kodi and using the remote from my TV to control Kodi using HDMI-CEC. I went to setup a second one on another TV but this time the TV remote did not work properly. Through elimination I came to determine the HDMI cable was the issue. I ordered another HDMI cable that had the Ferrite at each side of the cable. Now it worked properly. Thought this might be useful for others. This is the cable I ordered: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B003PDHJ6M Conclusion: In order to make HDMI-CEC work properly, make sure the HDMI cable is of sufficient quality. I think ones with the Ferrite may be b…

Tested on 4GB RAM model with 256GB eMMC. - WiFi works* - HDMI audio works - 3D acceleration Panfrost driver works I installed xorg, mesa, x11vnc, jwm, pulseaudio, and flatpak native packages, which was followed by adding Kodi flatpak. Everything worked - with one caveat: there is a delay between keystrokes and output. Typing locally is fine, the problem manifests itself during an inbound SSH connection or when using a remote control app for Kodi on Android mobile. 9. Hi friends... I understand that you have to be careful with the power supply and SD cards. For the above, I bought 2 power supplies (original) and several SD cards from different suppliers. After several attempts I can't get it to start from the sdcard (it only starts from the nvme). I burned the images on Linux (wipefs + dd + gparted) and Windows (SD Memory Card Formatter + balenaEtcher). Also, I used RKDevTool to burn the images to the sd card and nothing (evidently I deleted the spi content). --- begin part of the log --- U-Boot SPL board init U-Boot SPL 2017.09-gc060f28d70-220414 #zyf (Apr 18 2022 - 18:13:34) Failed to set cpub01 Faile…

  13. Hi, I'm trying to fully boot an Orange Pi 4 from a USB flash drive from Uboot's prompt before it actually loads the kernel from the SD card (The SD card already has a working image of Armbian installed, that's where the board pulled Uboot from and is booting from it). The SD card currently has Armbian_23.5.1_Orangepi4_jammy_current_6.1.30_gnome_desktop installed on it. The reason why I'm trying to boot the board from USB is that I want to try an image with Orange Pi 4's legacy kernel to be able to take advantage of its vendor Mali blob for performance comparison against the current open source Panfrost driver in mainline kernel. And that I don't ha…

Hi all, Something to share for those who use the USB-C serial console from another Linux host. Install and use 'tio' to connect to the serial console instead of minicom. This supports both 1500k baud and also can be easily used inside GNU screen (minicom gets a meta key conflict per default; CTRL-A is default meta key for both GNU screen and minicom). Minicom resulted in regular errors posted in syslog by the ftdi_sio kernel module. Did not run any strace to find out what syscall is causing it, but in short, tio appears to not treat the tty as a modem: no errors are popping up in syslog. Hopefully the serial consoles will remain up now. One caveat: I did not fin…

After I upgraded to Big Sur I have severe issues with the samba protocol when accessing my shares on the helios running openmediavault. I know that Apple had made some changes with samba but there might be some users that dug a little bit deeper and could give me a hint. I did try it with different settings in the extra options over the past weeks but with no luck so far. Sidenote: Also NFS is terribly slow and laggy. I am back with AFP connection now that does the job perfectly and fast.

  30. Happy new year everyone, So I really do not like the stub-resolver in Debian/Armbian , and I do not like forwarding any DNS request to any 3rd party in general. After some searching I found this: https://www.turek.dev/posts/disable-systemd-resolved-cleanly/ . Since we are on Armbian we need also remove the 00-armbian-default-dns.conf which points to cloudflare's 1.0.0.1 . 1. We probably do not need this, but just in case someone does not have it. sudo mkdir -p /etc/systemd/resolved.conf.d/ 2. We set the DNS Stub Listener to no and remove the comment from the line if applicable: sudo sed -i '/DNSStubListener=/s/^#//;s/=.*/=no/' /etc/…

My Rock Pi S logs a NULL pointer dereference in the ext4 module after running for 1 to 3 hours. 45. Hi all, new Rock Pi and as well new armbian user. After reading forum threads on the Rock Pi official forum, it seems possible to get the OS to run around 2W idle. I have installed cpufrequtils without getting any success, still sucks around 4W. Any help to tweak kernel or other activities to get Armbian to get into lower power mode would be appreciated. /Daniel

  48. Orange Pi 5 Pro 16GB Armbian Ubuntu 24.04 XFCE on NVMe (SD card to boot to NVMe) USB 3.0 is not working anymore after install. Was working on OPi OS Ubuntu 22.04 before as I used it to copy Armbian image to NVMe. Logs shows nothing when connecting / removing cable, boot log has no mention about USB 3.0 and no power delivered. Is there some known setting, e.g. USB in OTG mode or something that can do this?

  49. Hello everyone I wanted to build Armbian on the AIO-3588Q board. But I did not see that there was a configuration of this board. There was a configuration of the ITX-3588j board and other manufacturers on the same rk3588 platform and tried to build Armbian. In the assembled images in GPT format, only rootfs was stored (it combines rootfs and kernel (boot.img) according to the rockchip documentation). After I built it, I installed it in the rootds partition, it was installed without any errors. But the system does not start. You turn on the power, the fan starts spinning very fast, spins for 5 seconds, the lower LED lights up, and then the fan stops, the light go…

I have a rock 5c headless server running debian minimal with kernel 6.12.20. It runs fine for my use case, but the fan runs at full speed by default. I can manually set different fan speeds in /sys/devices/platform/pwm-fan/hwmon/hwmon2/pwm1 I have selected 'fanctrl' in armbian-config, but this does not reduce the default speed of the fan. I noticed that there are some recent patches published here and here, I assume these patches are there to deal with the fan control deficiency? Could these patches either a) be applied to the rock 5c dts file that comes with the armbian image or b) perhaps it is better to create a user defined ove…

  51. I plan to upgrade my NVMe memory. I currently boot off it - I set this up using the Armbian installer. Before doing the upgrade I'd like to know that I can boot off my SD card, should anything go wrong with the upgrade. But I'm unsure how to disable the NVMe boot sequence (which I think is SPI flash --> eMMC/mmcboot --> NVMe). If I insert my Armbian SD card, the system doesn't start. I've tried shorting pins 23/25 to disable the SPI flash but this has no effect. I am assuming that I can complete the upgrade by amending armbianEnv.txt to make the 'rootdev=UUID' line point to the new NVMe's UID? Is there a known solution to my que…

Only a select few resolutions are available, despite the connected screen advertising support for additional ones. I was also unable to output a custom resolution (for example 1920x538) by adding the proper modeline in manually through xrandr. I've been looking into this for a bit and managed to find a partial solution in Miouyouyou's recent pull request "[RFC] RK3288 : Add HDMI resolutions". 57. I'm having a very weird issue. I've encrypted a 5TB USB drive on my computer with LUKS sudo cryptsetup luksFormat /dev/sda1 And it works great on my computer. But when I plug in into my Helios64 and try to use it: sudo cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda1 secret Enter passphrase for /dev/sda1: No key available with this passphrase. It just refuses. Is there a method to boot with BSP kernel (the 4.4 kernel supplied by Rockchip/Radxa) on an existing install (jammy) to compare power usage to mainline kernel (5.15.y current or even 5.19.y rolling)? It's using almost the same SoC, a Rockchip RK3588S. Right now, the device is on "community" maintenance, which is a bit sad since its brother/sister boards are on "standard". This means everyone who uses it has to use rolling release instead of being on a stable version. Being relatively close to the other two RK3588-based boards, I hope this can be done? But I don't want to sound like an ass for asking. I just wanted to use the two "Pro" I've bought for …

Hi, I have a USB device that periodically hangs. Reboot or re-plug helps, but I need something lighter. I've seen several discussions on the problem of resurrecting hanging USB devices, but their solutions seems devices specific. Non on them worked in my case. I tried ioctl with USBDEVFS_RESET among other methods. uhubctl didn't work too (it seems it only sees EHCI hub, while my device is USB3.0 and connected to XHCI). Ideally the solution should depower a single USB connector to let the device fully reset and then get it connected back.

I've been looking into streaming on the Orange Pi's, which doesn't work, so I thought I would share my findings. I was first told by customer service people that the problem was HDCP, but have found that it is actually the camera. The tech was kind enough to slip that the camera module doesn't have their hooks. I can still view in the browser, and this leaves me to the conclusion that TV boxes and Smart TVs are using the camera modules to record end users without their permission. If the system has the camera hooks, the app is allowed to play. The browser bypasses this, because it has permissions to access private information on our device…

Unbrick: 1) Reinstall Orangepi OS using document in the link on emmc. After installation is compete emmc will be back. 2) Reinstall Armbian lower than 24_11. The one that i found in archive that worked is 24.5.3.

  87. Hello, Each time I'm booting the Rock64, it starts on Jan, 21 of 2016 but the filesystem has a superblock on Jan,28 of 2018, so in the future. It's inconsistant and the filesystem is checking each time and I'm waiting a few seconds. How can I avoid this trouble ? Here is the screen shot of logs through the tty/usb console. I'm booting from the spi flash and a sd-card with Ubuntu 18.04.1.

Could anyone point me in a good direction if I wanted to start learning how to get the Rock 5B HDMI driver running for the 6.x kernel? I'm looking for where it's located in the Linux file structure, but also documents and possible support files / repositories from Rockchip. /Kenneth

Dear Armbians I have a NanoPi Neo 3 board with 1GB of RAM running in a DC for quite a while now. Because of an SD card failure, I had to make a fresh setup with the actual Bookworm image. This image seems to be quite unstable. Device is going up and down all the time. I am unable to find the problem myself. Maybe someone can take a look and help me to fix my stability issue: Debug output: https://paste.armbian.com/sozozoyahi

Hello, If I unplug my M1 for the whole night. When I power up It does not start the first time. It stays stuck on the hardkernel splashScreen. If I power cycle, it starts as it should. I'm booting on the SD card and system is on nvme. System is up-to-date. Do you have any idea of what may happen? Thanks Julien

  93. Hello, I have been trying to switch to kernel 6.8 but images are not working properly. Screen does not show anything at all. 6.1 images can boot so users can proceed with installation. Failure has been observed for some time starting with earlier 6.8-rc versions. Has anyone tried any 6.6 build?

  94. Hi, I'm making a Media Box. I've got MVP compiled and optimized for gstreamer vaapi support. I was wondering how far off is DRI2 support for the mali fbdev armsoc kernel driver ? I haven't found all the source to build it. Rockchip doesn't list the NanoPC-T4. Is the FireFly a close fascimile ? The only reason whysk is I noticed the Firefly dtb is included in my nanopc-t4 install. The RockChip's Github repository for x86-video-armsock didn't list the NanoPC-T4 in their source. I found SunXi, Allwinner, and Firefly Also would using the rev04 dtb fix some issues (bluetooth) Sometimes bluetooth initializes.. for several rebo…

  95. cancelled - power unit cable was not correctly plugged in and NAS was running on battery, hence the automated shutdowns, i think (but it's not clearly printed / displayed anywhere, i would say that it could have helped).

Hello everyone, I am new to this so please forgive my eventual mistake. I have a Rock 4 SE with Armbian Linux 6.12.13-current-rockchip64 (bookworm) for Rockpi 4B (because there is not a special version for SE it re-commanded to use 4B). And I try to use the CSI port to connect a Camera Raspberry Pi V2.1. And I does not work, I have tried to add different value to the overlay in /boot/armbianEnv.txt like overlays=rockchip-csi csi or imx219 with a reboot each time, but it doesn't seem to work. Looking around, it seems like there is a lot of issue with csi camera and rock 4 with armbian (and sometime other os). But none seems to have…

  100. I had a need to change the macaddress of this device, after looking through the bootloader I spotted 2 offsets: 0x380400 macaddress NIC1 0x380406 macaddress NIC2 I would love an option in the installer, but I did it manually now: # dd if=/dev/mmcblk2 bs=16M count=1 of=bootloader 1+0 records in 1+0 records out 16777216 bytes (17 MB, 16 MiB) copied, 0,0736928 s, 228 MB/s # read_mac bootloader 0x380400 9c:d5:dc:b2:ce:1c # write_mac bootloader 0x380400 $(random_mac) write_mac bootloader 0x380400 $(random_mac) # read_mac bootloader 0x380400 b0:3f:1a:83:9a:da After scripting a couple of functions of course: ### Functi…
