Greetings! I have an S905 based TX3. I have not really heard much at all about this box. I hear about the S905W based TX3 and another S905D based one if I recall but this is NOT THOSE. This is a black box with Ethernet, WI-FI, Remote Control, A/V headphone jack plug, SPDIF Fiber Optic out, 2 USB ports, a micro SD slot and HDMI. It's just a TX3, not a TX3 PRO or a TX3 MINI. And just a plain S905. Here are the components on the board: WHITE STICKER: TX3 95*18 BOARD ID (I ASSUME): 94V-0 XZG-P2 E246887 MODEL ID (I ASSUME): CS_905TX_V1.0 20160517 CPU: AMLogic S905 CPU J-TNC015.00 C0FQPN00412 Rectangular chip says: S16037 G 1636 ROM (I ASSUME): …

Hello Armbian team. 1st I would like to thank everyone for your great work. I've been using a Minix TV box with Armbian 5.41 (kernel 3.14) for many years. Recently I have decide to try Mr. balbes150 build. The system works perfectly from SD, but after installing to emmc the boot process fails to load OS. I would be thankful if someone could point to the right direction. [1] Hardware: Minix Neo U1 ... S905, 2GB RAM / 16GB Flash. Emmc is Toshiba THGBMFG7C1LBAIL (AFAIK same as Samsung KLMAG2GEND-B031). Hi folks, I'm currently running @150Balbes "Armbian_5.27_S812_Ubuntu_xenial_3.10.99" on a S812, but with some minor issues. Ethernet only 100Mbits (Realtek 8211F). Kernels newer than 3.10.99 won't boot (but will try to determine why, when I get my UART Adpter.) So after all, I'm thinking to replace this box, with a more current one. Purpose of this box: running an "Emby-Server" with external HDDs and probably "Pi-Hole". Which box is recommendable for these purposes? thanks in advance

Title says all. Please see here my comment (#5) from 1 day ago...can't find a reference on this site: https://www.cnx-software.com/2018/01/24/mainline-linux-on-amlogic-s905-s905x-s912-soc-2018-status-update/ So: 1. Is there any Armbian wiki or update summary that tells us about progress on video acceleration support ( specifically for Kodi video streaming) and Mali GPU hardware support under Ubuntu desktop? 2. Does Ubuntu desktop Armbian distros support SMP multi core processing for this Amlogic series? 3. What does it mean to say, e.g., that a S905X/W Android Box (e.g., A95X, MXQ Pro) supports 4K@60/30fps? Does …

Dears, Can somebody help me to learn how boot process ongoing on s905w (i.e. tx3-mini)? I want to add support for s905 in my project (basically it is build from scratch just enough os for mythtv). My target is to use as much as possible mainline kernel/u-boot/v4l2-m2m etc. So how should I organise sw/scripts to allow booting mainline kernel on s905w? thx in advance!

Hello, I have bought an x96mini with a uboot version from 03/2019, everythings works perfectly when booting from SD, but when I try to boot from internal the kernel boots and it stops at "waiting for root device", after an investigation I have noticed that the partitions layout is different from the standard one, I have updated the dtb to be inline with that layout but the problem remains the same, unable to boot from internal. Here is the original dts file from that box, Any help would be appreciated, knowing that I am using the kernel version 3.14. Thanks, 01_dtbdump_Amlogic.dts

Ok guys looking for some help on shutting down issue. I installed Armbian_5.90_Aml-s905_Ubuntu_bionic_default_5.1.0_desktop_20190701.img.xz using S905.p212.dtb two days ago. It was logging ADC errors in the kernel log every three seconds but they have gone now , it is now logging the errors below in the kernel log and ttyS0 errors in the syslog and kernel log as well. I disabled the ttyS0 service to stop it logging all the time and around 25 minutes later it shutdown, There are no errors in the kernel log apart from the ones below. It was stable for 1.5 days until I disabled the ttyS0. It keeps shutting down every 25 minutes but was st…

Hello everybody. Finally I have signed up for the forum. Been reading here for awhile but never really had a reason to signup until now. I got a tv-box the other day which I have been playing around with. I dont have much experience working with the arm64 architecture, I have mostly been playing around with ultrasparc and the mainline architectures. I have no problem getting the system to boot and work but I cannot get all the boards features to work so my OCD is not allowing me to let this pass without exploring all options. The box in question is a s905x MXQ Pro 4K. It has 1gb memory, rtl8189etv wifi chip and what I think is a nand chip…

Hi! I have an X96 box, with 2G Ram and 16G Rom, it has an S905X inside. I was using it with armbian, but after installed armbian-firmware-full and rebooted the box was dead. I tried to put it in burn mode with no luck: aml burn tool for os x does not exists and from a virtualbox machine with linux can't see the device, av reset button is not working, bridging pins didn't work and from my raspberry I can see the device connected but cant put it on burn mode) Anybody can help me with this?

Hi all, I was running Armbian as a LAMP server on x96Max board on emmc. I was using a USB Wifi dongle, and also a USB thumbdrive for local storage. Everything was working great..24/7 for a few weeks. Then suddenly just stopped. Now the board won't start-up at power-on. Tried toothpick reset, and also I've tried several PSUs, which work ok with other boards. I have a 5V/4A PSU, and a couple of 5V/2A PSUs. There's no LED, and no HDMI signal. And the Wifi dongle doesn't light up (so the OS isn't starting). Also I've checked for voltage 5VDC at different points on the board - eg the USB ports, and there is…

Hi I’m thinking of buying a more powerful TV box, and I see that everyone recommends Rockchip. However, when I look at performance, I notice that the S905X3 has much more power than an RK3566 and is also cheaper. There are comments that development for Amlogic is stalled, but new versions continue to be released from what I can see. I only want it for setting up a Pi-hole and some Dockerized applications. Am I making a mistake if I go for an S905X3? Currently, I have an S905X, and although it was a bit challenging, it’s working quite well

I am trying to compile 150 Balbes source for a customer kernel. I would like to enable CAN, VCAN and SLCAN support in the kernel. I copied the config file from /boot to the Amlogic_s905-kernel directory as .config. I then ran make menuconfig and was able to select CAN, VCAN and SLCAN to enable those modules. I then ran make and it seemed to build fine. It took several hours so I went to sleep. I didn't find any errors in the morning and I was able to see the new files under /arch/arm64/boot. At that point I was a little confused on how to get the new kernel to emmc and boot it. I thought before I screw something up I would see if I could just build the modules wi…

HI All, Brand new user to Armbian, and fairly new user to linux here! running Debian bullseye desktop version, downloaded and install about a week ago.... First off, loving what Armbian has done to my old S912 box, thanks very much for this fantastic image! i have been able to get it all set mostly the way i would want and have set up a nextpvr back-end server that is working very well feeding other 'kodi' boxes dotted around the house. on to my issue, hopefully it is something easy to address, i have set up openvpn using the network manager gui, and it connects just fine, and 'tun0' shows as connected, however, no traffic a…

Hello all! And no by an old arm box I don't mean a box full of proshetic limbs! :-) . I'm referring to this device: http://rikomagic.co.uk/linux_mini_pcs.html https://www.cnx-software.com/2014/09/25/rikomagic-announces-mk902ii-le-ubuntu-mini-pc-powered-by-rockchip-rk3288-soc/ The device was badged as a "RKM Mk902II" and claims to have a rk3288. Dug it out today (it has sat unused and untouched for quite a while). Found that its plsatic box which has that strange gunk that is applied to to the box to make it look "shiny" has started to break down so it has become sticky. Anyway since I am clearing things out …

The start system in Coreelec is not compatible with LibreELECE Armbian etc. If you run coreelec on your TV box, you will no longer be able to run LE and Armbian normally until the full recovery of the standard firmware via the USB Burn Tool and the new activation of the universal multi-boot, which is used in all new systems. Questions that do not specify exact details (the exact image version, TV box model, detailed steps that were performed for DTB settings, and so on) will be ignored and deleted. For all. I don't support s905x3. I don't have this equipment. All messages about this platform deleted. What works or doesn't work from this equipment…

I opened this theme to support running ArmbianTV on 32-bit ARM models. To date, there are first results on launching ArmbianTV on the Rockchip rk3288 and AML s8xx platform (in the future, by analogy with aarch64, I plan to switch to a common image for all 32-bit models of TV boxes). I have also put # in the other lines. I have alsor ename the u-boot-s905x-s912 file to u-boot.ext . Hello, I am looking for a cheap SoC (less than 15$ per SoC) that has the most efficient HW based h.264 encoder. I want to transcode multiple 1080p (6-12 mbps bitrate source) TS streams. I will probably use couple of those SoC's. I was reading about Allwinner V3S (~3$ per CPU) based SoCs but can't find any cheap one for sale based on that chip. Also I don't really know what kind of performance this cheap have for HW h.264 encoding. Anyone have any experience with HW 1080p encoding on SoCs? Any suggestions?

These days I am playing with an inexpensive ($25) Amlogic S912 TV box that I managed to get Oleg's excellent Armbian Ubuntu 18.04.2 image 5.75 with Linux 4.20.5 kernel running on. For the moment it has shown excellent stability and performance. I am attaching the results of running sbc-bench by Thomas Kaiser on this diminutive Linux box: it beats just about every other SBC except the RK3399 SBC's, and even matches or is faster than these in some cases. However the best part is that it is running a mainline up to date Linux kernel, not some heavily patched vendor kernel from a couple of years ago. Right now I am running the more extensive Phoronix Bench…

Hi everbody, last week I bought a TV-Box X96mini 2 GB / 16 GB. After reading the FAQ (thx @SteeMan), it was easy to set up this little box with the image provided by balbes150. (thx @balbes150) Most of the hardware is working fine, with the meson-gxl-s095x-p212.dtb, which is found on /boot/dtb/amlogic. There is a problem with the lirc support, but using triggerhappy will do the job. Thx @Alexey Woronov, https://forum.armbian.com/topic/11161-lirc-on-armbian-buster/?tab=comments#comment-83995 Another little problem is audio. Basically sound works, but volume from the audio jack is much too low. Only when I'm turning the volume to the max, I'm able to hear something.…

Hello, I am using mxq pro 4k and the only dtb file that goes untill the end is the gxbb_p200.dtb, so I have installed every thing on the SD card and every thing works very well. Things getting worse when I installed the linux on the eMMC using the ./install.sh script. The installation goes very well, and every thing starts correctly, the only problem is that many drivers behave strangely, So I have compared the dmesg logs from SD and eMMC and many changes were noticed. So I suspected the dtb file to be not the one used in the SD card, so I have extracted the dtb file used when booting from eMMC and compare it with the one used in SD, and I got a ve…

I'm running armbian on a X96 and was able to install it to the eMMC. So far no problems. The machine has 8 GB of eMMC, and that's why I want to use every free space if possible. But the partition table looks quite strange. Here is the output of cfdisk: The extended partition p4 ends at block 11567103, but p15, which is part of p4, ends at15269887. I was not able to fix this with parted's resizepart command. The resulting new partition table was not written to the eMMC. Any ideas how to fix this? p15 contains armbian, which runs fine in this configuration. Nevertheless I would like to delete unused partitions and enlarge p15. p14 could be a cand…

Hi. Thanks so much for the effort that's been put in to this. It's really quite amazing what I can do with my little TV box! I've had some issues getting armbian to work fully though, and I believe it's entirely down to the dtb.img not being quite right. I'm using: gxm_q201_2g.dtb On the xenial mate version found: https://yadi.sk/d/srrtn6kpnsKz2/Linux/ARMBIAN/5.44/kernel_3.14 Which, while booting up fine, gives me no WiFi. Hello First of all, amazing project overall, it's incredible to see what we can do already. I have Armbian running on a Sunvell T95Z Plus (3gb RAM, 32GB storage) and it's working fine overall, there just seem to be a few things that could be better and I would need to help to progress : - The video driver doesn't seem to be optimized, playing a video, kodi or youtube shows a lot of tearing. I have recently purchased a Linux-based TV box with the following specifications: Realtek chipset with the code RTD1395PU 1 GB of RAM (SEC 149 model) 8 GB Flash memory (SCY brand) Operating system: Linux Support for 1 USB, LAN, HDMI I have tried connecting the UART interface to it and observed the boot process using Putty. What I received was a boot system that I will describe later. The issue I'm facing is that there is very little information on the internet about this CPU model, and the support for it is similarly scarce, as it seems to have been discontinued. Hi folks, I have one of those cheap boxes based off Amlogic S905X, and while ARMbian boots properly, I really wanted OpenGL support and 2D and 3D acceleration in Xorg. After looking for a while I found Amlogic's buildroot package , which has full wifi, hdmi, and full mali support including GL, and cross compiled an image based off gcc-linaro-6.3.1, uboot-2015-next, and kernel 4.9. I managed to build the whole thing with no major issue, and flashed it using USB Burning Tool. But the box was then stuck in an infinite reset loop. There are several variant of Tanix TX6 models listed here https://linux-sunxi.org/Tanix_TX6 and they mostly differ in RAM and eMMC sizes. There is reference to single dtb file there sun50i-h6-tanix-tx6.dtb for all these models. Will this dtb file work with all the models with the Single Armbian Image for RK+AML+AW (aarch64 ARMv8)? Hi everyone I am a novice in linux and it's software development, please bear with me. I have Tanix TX92 2GB/16GB TV Box which runs perfectly on CoreElec using gxm_q201_2g_1gbit.dtb with Wi-Fi and IR remote working okay however on Armbian 5.XX versions using menson_ gxm_q201.dtb none of network interfaces work whereas with menson-gxm_vega_s96.dtb physical interface works while wireless interface doesn't. Can anyone help to transform CoreElec's gxm_q201_2g_1gbit.dtb such that it works with Armbian? Help me please.

Hello, I have tested a lot of tv box to decode video, and lot use special kernel of vendor ( the kernel provide by android 3.14 ... ) with not completely opensource solution. And a guy (maxime jourdan) have make an "hack" of the amlogic, and use V4L2M_M2M to make the amlogic hardware decode with new kernel ( patch in 4.19 if i remenber ). It's not perfect ( the performance is poor than the special kernel ) but it's works and it's not a vendor solution and completely opensource . And the guy explain it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF6i19oscqg In english i can understand It's a french guy It's my new hero ...

With many users here in this forum owning different SoCs, dev boards and TV boxes, i wonder which one would be recommended to be used as a simple desktop with HW support for GUI. I have one S905 in my mind, but not sure if mali-450 is supported with balbes150 images.
-
Seem the kernel custom source of S905W - TX3 mini no longer maintance and it is removed on the github of @balbes150. I want to continues develop and apply some bug fix. Anyone have this repository, please share me. Thank you very much!

Just installed Armbian on a TicTid X9T Pro which has: - 3Gb of DDR3 - 32 Gb eMMC - Amlogic S912 with an Octa-Core CPU - WiFi Dual band - Bluetooth 4.1 - Gb LAN port - GPU which does 4K HD fine Also installed the desktop which presents itself in HD 4K mode (connected to my new LCD TV just fine). Then installed Kodi from default repository. Noticed that it would crash on startup. Changed the default Desktop resolution to HD (1900X1200) afterwards and noticed that KODI started fine in HD mode. Seeing now though that KODI is not using the GPU rather it is doing the VM for video driver t…

Hello, it's been months since I've said to myself "I've got to get a cheap TV box, since SBCs are now so expensive and my Raspberry Pi 3 is showing its I/O and memory limits", and I think I'm now finally forced to, because 2 weeks ago my Pi started to show some strange (load/power) issues, and even started to emit a funny burned smell (!!!), slowly with hours of continuous (even if light) uptime. It still works, but I fear that some component is dying, maybe having kept an USB HDD connected for months has fried something: the smell strangely is always coming even after changing PSU and disconnecting the HDD (apart from that, there are now no other connected peripherals ex…

Hello everybody, I would like to install Armbian on my Trongle X3 (Android 6 TV box, S905X 64bit CPU, 1 GB RAM, SoC board with HDMI/Ethernet/2 USB/1 microSD/IR/WiFi connections). Is there a safe way to migrate from Android to Armbian and back, eventually? I will only use this device for streaming video purpose. I haven't important things on its internal memory (8GB). Thank you.

I took apart a tx3 pro android box I had collecting dust and realized I could put debian on it. I went through the process on Armbians website and got it to sucessfully boot into the user login screen of Armbian Heres the weird part when I login it begins to load and then for some reason opens Kodi 17.3 and I have no way of exiting kodi without it rebooting the box. I believe I only had Kodi 16.0 on the box so I think 17.3 is coming pre-installed in this file they give you for the Armbian Debian install. If anyone has any idea why it would do this I'd appreciate it.appvalley tutuapp tweakbox

Been at this for a few days now and am slowly losing my mind. Got a MQX Amlogic 905 P201. (CS_905MXQ_V1.0) and have been running Armbian for a while now off SD card using meson-gxbb-p201.dtb without any issues. Using Armbian_5.84_Aml-s905_Debian_stretch_default_5.1.0-rc1_20190507 Tried installing to emmc by running install.sh. Everything looked good but rebooted and found the device was bricked. Managed to get it working again by running the usb burning tool and flashing MXQ PRO 4K - p201 - android TV (ATV) - by cOOLio. SoI can at least boot into it and browse the SD card, but now for some reason I can't boot directly back in…

Hello All! Just got my MINI M8S today and thanks to Armbian, I now have Debian up and running. I used "Armbian_5.24_Amlogic-s905x_Debian_jessie_3.14.29_20170118.img" The only issue I have is that some of the ALSA kernel modules that are needed for MIDI support are disabled in this kernel. Specifically, SND_SEQ_OSS, and possibly one or two others. So I went ahead and installed the "linux-source" package, which matched up nicely with the existing headers. After uncompressing, I copied "cp ../linux-headers-3.14.29/Module.symvers .", then I ran 'make menuconfig', which pulled in the config from '/boot' and I proceeded to enable the pertinent module options with…

I propose to discuss the use of TV boxes (SbC) as a multifunctional complex that can be used as a PC and a universal media center. I've been testing a lot of different models lately that may qualify for this role. Later I will publish General notes, which I got on different models of processors and specific models of TV boxes.

Is there an Android TV box that can successfully run Armbian? I got two boxes on the hopes that it would work but I failed in my efforts so far 1. X98: I found out that Linux kernel doesn't have the .dtb files for this box so it won't work for now. Maybe I can derive it from S905W but I haven't tried it yet. 2. X96-Air: I could run Armbian [1] on the SD card but when I tried to install it on the eMMC, it stopped booting altogether. Now it won't even boot with SD card inserted. Is there an Android box which supports 5GHz wifi that can definitely run Armbian? Thanks! [1]: I used a release from a person that uses Ar…

After following the main guide "Single Armbian image for RK + AML + AW" I've been able to boot into armbian via sd card without issue using the update method. Ethernet is working and nothing seems to be broken. However, trying to launch Armbian Config to install on eMMC doesn't work because after clicking to open the program a terminal pops up and disappears immediately, similar to how if you opened a command line program in windows just by clicking on it, it would close by itself. I'm not sure if this is a related problem but running terminal and trying to use su fails even though I'm certain I've got the password correct. I even reformatted and …

Hi Folks, I have an MXQ-PRO-S905 box, branded as an "Antsir" 4k box, 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM using an RTL8189 chipset. I have built the SD card several times using different variations of the Armbian OS (details below). The box is currently running the "Coolio" build, but I want to be able to run armbian from the SD card, however, there is no update options available inside the OS to trigger it to boot, so I manually boot into recovery, the SD card can be seen, but because I dont have a valid file for the recovery bootloader, I cannot trigger it to boot into the environment. Is there anything special I need to be doing?

If you install the SD card and turn it on, then the red LED lights up on the device and that's it. The device simply ignores the USB flash drive and loads android. What could be the problem?

Is there an updated distro for the RK3188 ? (Quad core A9, ARMv7) I have been looking around but not been able to find something newer than Ubuntu 12.02, or an old Linuxium Found this old stick in a drawer, and want to repurpose it to a headless Linux box. 2GB RAM. My goal would be to run Home Assistant on it, which does run on the Pi 3 Model B. So I assume the 20% better performance of the A53 would be offset a bit by having twice the RAM. I think it is better to repurpose it than to throw it out.

Hello. I have a TV-Box Android MXIII-G. Recently i installed armbian (3.10.108) from this image https://yadi.sk/d/wc2jqGsHuKy48. The image has been installed pretty good, i can get into the system with ssh service and apparently the system work good less the usb ports. This device have two ports USB 2.0 and one port OTG. I was read on the forum what you have to turn on them from echo on > /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1/power/level but i can't do that. I can't create the file level on the folder power and i don't have it on there, when i try to write the file on that folder i get this error: [ Error writing lock file ./.level.swp: No such file or directory ]. …

Hi, I've a small amount of linux knowledge... enough to be dangerous but not enough to understand fully what's going on. I'm learning slowly but have reached a frustrating failure with my A95x revision 2 set top box. It's running "ARMBIAN 5.41.1 user-built Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 4.17.0-rc3-next-20180430-amlogics905x" I have a behringer UCA202 USB soundcard - it uses standard texas instruments chipset so should just be plug and play. But there's a gap in my knowledge and in the process of getting the soundcard to detect within Armbian. lsbusb outputs.... Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root h…

@Steeman: thanks so much for a clear and concise instruction! You are my hero!!! By the way, I just want to check with you. There is no reason to run Armbian on emmc card, rite? Because the sdcard nowadays are much faster & larger than those that are available in the old TV Boxes? Thus there is no advantage to install to the emmc? Thanks!

I've used DroidCam on Windows 10 with no problems. The dev supports Linux, but for 64-bit binaries only. Is there any alternatives for Armbian? Even just microphone will do.. I am planning to repurpose my old android phone which barely runs any apps

Hi. Currently using Kodi on Raspberry Pi. I also run IPTV service on the Kodi Raspberry Pi. It seems switching channels is slow, EPG seems limited as well. I want to know when I buy a TV box, does it come with OS? Can I just load the m3u file so it allows watching IPTV? Does it allow faster switching of channel than using a Raspberry Pi? So many questions regarding TV Box. But seems to me the forum has a lot of topics of people getting TV Box and repurposing the box as desktop. Why is this? Not really using it for IPTV?
