I am not able to boot from armbian. First I downloaded image from (https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-zero-2w/) later on I flashed the image with usbimager, then since this didn't work I did with balena etcher, (all those in linux). Balena etcher crashes at verification so then I did with my windows machine, first with usbimager and since it wasn't working I decided to decompress the .xz and do it with "rufus" Here i attach the images and as you guys can see it says "failed to mount /dev/mtdblock4". That terminal is pretty much useless, I can't even do reboot or poweroff. I just need armbia…

Hey, I'm trying to setup the ports of the switch correctly but I don't arrive anywhere. I'm using the mainline armbian for my R1. There are different files in /etc/network(e.g.): -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 495 18. Jun 2017 interfaces.r1 -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 610 18. Jun 2017 interfaces.r1router -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 359 18. Jun 2017 interfaces.r1switch But even if I completely copy a configuration file to /etc/network/interfaces there are still no packets arriving at the Ports named lan1 to lan4. I checked this with tcpdump -i interfaceName, but all packets are arriving at eth0. Only some IPv6 packets are arriving at the lan-ports. …

Hi Sirs, for first excuse me for my English. I followed all the instructions, used a 8GB class 10 SD Card, burned it with the program proposed, put in the Box but obtained only a purple led. After 30 mintes no other results. I don't know if I missed some steps, but it seems to do all correctly. No results at all at the present time. The S/N is X2HCAAG40056. Maybe could be blocked for upgrade or other? Actually the Vendor is 207K4. Thank you for your possible help. Have a Merry Christmas Gianluca

I'm trying to get the armbian x86-64 generic image to run in virtualbox. I can successfully convert the *.img file to qcow2 and qemu will run it just fine. However, virtualbox fails to boot it in any format (qcow2, vmdk, vhd, vdi, etc). The grub menu comes up, but when trying to boot Linux then it just sits at a blinking cursor. I've tried converting this a variety of ways, such as using `qemu-img convert`, `vboxmanage convertfromraw` and `vboxmanage convertdd`. None of them yield an image that virtualbox will boot. Has anybody else had success with this, and/or know how to fix it? Thanks.

I noticed the BPI-M4 Zero is supported. It's the same SoC as the BPI-M4 Berry and mostly the same hardware (8GB eMMC, 2GB RAM). The main differences seem to be the ports. Is there a chance the image would work? Is the BPI-M4 Berry possibly going to get support?

On my Banana Pi M5 Armbian Jammy has a strange device name assignment. BPi-M5 has internal 16GB eMMC normally named mmcblk0 and microSD named mmcblk1. Normally it boots from SD and if you install an OS like Raspberry OS for BPi into eMMC, you're still able to boot from SD another OS because RaspiOS maps device correctly. But when Armbian (i.e. Jammy) is installed into eMMC it changes eMMC device to mmcblk1 and SD to mmcblk0, and It prevents SD to boot. And if the eMMC OS corrupts and doesn't boot the SBC bricks and TTL connection is needed to erase boot record. To change OS it's necessary a command to delete boot record and SD on mmbl…

I just tried to get the dhclient on eth0 to communicate with my ISP (which uses dhcp). On OpenWrt, this works with no problem. However, all I got on the bpi-r2 (eth0) was a 169.x (no answer) address. For the internal network, the dhclient works just fine. I have already tried using eth0 in systemd's network and outside of it (using dhclient). No communication in both cases. ta, t.

I am using ARM Cortex A7 board and had run coovachilli with its internal DHCP server successfully with external and internal splash pages. Now want to run it with external DHCP server that is clients will get IPs from external DHCP server and authenticate via Coovachilli. For example two boxes running coovachilli in it seperately but the client from both boxes will get IP lease from same backend dhcp server while authenticate via its coovachilli respectively. So I have used this config in it: HS_WANIF=eth0 # has address 195.19.214.216 HS_LANIF=eth1 HS_NETWORK=10.2.3.0 HS_NETMASK=255.255.255.0 HS_UAMLISTEN=10.2.3.1 HS_UAMPORT=3990 HS_UAMUIPORT=4990…

Hello all, I succeed to boot on sata usb by seting the UUID of the armbian_root from mmcblk1p1 to sda1 I tested several M2 SSD enclosures both NVME and NGFF most of the time, one in the middle, has a USB Hub and micro SDCARD port. Now if the USB enclosures is not connected, we are stuck in initramfs stage because the UIID partition given in /boot/ArmbianEnv.txt does not exist. I changed the UUID of emmc armbian_root (mmcblk1p1) thinking it would be overmapped with partition of S2 usb enclosure (sda1). It is not the case, it will only boot on emmc , ignoring S2 enclosures when mmcblk1p1 and sda1 shares the same UUID. …

As of 25 April, one year after the release of Debian 8, alias "Jessie", and nearly three years after the release of Debian 7, alias "Wheezy", regular security support for Wheezy comes to an end. The Debian Long Term Support (LTS) Team will take over security support. https://www.debian.org/News/2016/20160425 Important: Wheezy-LTS only supports i386 and amd64. The support for armel and armhf is waiting for confirmation from all related Debian Teams. Users of other architectures are encouraged to upgrade to Debian 8 ("Jessie").

Hello there I have had great success using Armbian as a base OS to run my commercial application. Finally free of Microsoft Windows CE However the time is now at hand when I need to clean things up before it goes out in the field. As far as possible I need to hide some stuff and one of the things I need to do is as follows: 1. Disable (or hide- I prefer this as it is needs to be re-enabled if we have problems) the text that scrolls during boot. 2. Change the black background with the Armbian logo in the middle. I preferably want to change this to our own logo and some custom text, retaining the Armbian logo at a different position. I suspect thi…

Hi, I want to make my orange pi 3 lts work in a similar way to the way Wifi manager works on esp8266 projects The idea being that if there is not a valid Wifi connection found then an AP is activated so a user can connect to a captive portal and enter the wifi ssid and password anc click connect. the pi then reboots and tries to connect. if that is successful then it works as normal if it is not then it reactivates the AP. I found various different partial solutions but none of which seem to work well with my setup. this might be either due to the orange pi or Armbian. The most promising i ahve foudn so far is https://github.com/b…

After making some changes to my Armbian setup on the Odroid xu4, I decided to use the Win32DiskImager tool on my Win10 machine to make a bootable image from the microSD card. However, I've now tried two different micro sd cards (a Samsung and a Sandisk) for the backup, but Win10 tells me that it doesn't recognize the file system. It asks me if I want to format the cards. Obviously I don't, because neither would be usable my Odroid xu4. Any idea why I can't backup these Armbian xenial images? Is there a comparable tool on Linux (I have Fedora on another machine) that can make the backup? (I pulled this issue from another thread where it really didn't belong.) Thanks…

Hi, thanks to this tutorial: I was able to add optical S/PDIF module to my orange pi zero plus 2 h3 - It works But I noticed the the every time when a sound is played it causes the SPDIF output on the OPI to initialise (switch on the red light) which takes about 1-2 seconds, after the sound has finished the SPDIF output goes back to sleep (switch off the red light). As a result on every new audio that is played the first 1-2 second is lost off This is not a problem if I'm listening radio but in case of quick phrases spoken by the synthesizer(my case) this is a real problem. Is there any way to keep S/PDIF …

Why is the support of the Banana M2 model on the A31c processor stopped? I am ready to become a tester. In the firmware in the "overlay" folder there are "dtbo" files for sun6i and sun8i, but they are absent sun7i-***.dtbo, which makes it impossible to work on the a31c board with sound and serial interfaces. Please return the missing files to the firmware or provide a link where you can download them.

Hi guys! I need to run some game on full screen, and they are old school windows one. the thing is that adding the modeline worked perfectly fine on rpi4, not on armbian sadly. it seems to change the resolution and then it go "out of signal". I used the same parametes than on rpi4. also generated new ones just in case. the thing is I cant make it to work and maybe iut's something deep into armbian. exaple: xrandr --newmode "640x480_60.00" 23.75 640 664 720 800 480 483 487 500 -hsync +vsync xrandr --addmode HDMI-1 640x480_60.00

I am trying to connect to a 3D printer board using 3 wire serial, that is no CTS and RTS. I had a Wemos wifi module on it previously so I know it works. Now I need to use my BanaPi M2 Zero to control it thorough the same port, the Wemos has been removed and not going back. I keep getting a failure to initialize when I try to connect to the board. I am trying to use Pins 8 & 10 which is supposed to be UART 3 = /dev/ttyS3 from what I understand. Questions: How can I test the port? I have Minicom installed. How do I set the parameters to disable CTS and RTS? What flow control should I be using? Software? …

I've copied Armbian Ubuntu Focal onto a brand-new SD card and started it on an Orange Pi Zero. This has worked before with the Bionic version. After setting it up and upgrading all packages, I rebooted and everything was running smoothly. Now I've done the same as before but found that the system is totally slow after running for just one day. It's set up to collect data from a 1-Wire temperature sensor and send it to my server. And it lets the green LED blink twice every 30 seconds to show it's still there and has a network connection. The network is connected via Ethernet cable, WLAN is not used. I am copying a folder from one drive to another. Hello, I have recently setup Armbian on my Orange Pi Zero 2W for a project I am working on. Everything works great so far but one thing I have noticed is that permissions feel much reduced to my user account. Is there any way I can change the user permissions so I won't have to use sudo for everything? Hello, when initially trying to set up a Router using tidos tutorial with the latest armbian version i miserably failed on the hostapd part. After some fiddling around, I decided to check /proc/net/dev and found out that the WLAN card was linked to wlan1 instead of wlan0 After changing both the interface and the hostapd.conf I still can't seem to get hostapd to working with the error: Failed to initialize interface Currently I'm using the driver from https://github.com/pvaret/rtl8192cu-fixesand my hostapd.conf file is attached. Is there any problem with my hostapd.conf or is the device used somewhere else? Thank you in advance and have a nice day.

So I saw many thread with this question. Of course there are also good answers but I just don't understand. Out of the box HDMI works(hdmi2hdmi). Hdmi2dvi=doesn't work. Analog AV=doesn't work. I'm supposed to disable the hdmi and enable av-out by script.bin with something like [disp_init] My question is where is this file located? Am I suppose to vi create it? Hopefully someone could provide step by step or point me to the right direction with detailed information.

Hello Armbian Community, As you can see by my post count, I am new to Armbian, but so far have found it to be an amazing resource, and truly appreciate the hard work you all do. Its really impressive, and your knowledge and understanding of SBC’s is incredible. I am attempting to get Armbian working on a custom A64 device that was originally designed to be used as a Point-of-sale machine, that runs Android. I understand I am venturing into uncharted territory here, and this is absolutely not supported, but it’s a fun project and I am learning a ton. I am asking for help, but realize none may be available. Here is the hardware I have in hand. …

I had a hard time to figure out how to set the input pull-up on GPIO 1 of the NanoPi neo2. In the end it appeared to be extremely simple, but in order to help other beginners I like to share how I accomplished it. 1) I created a dts file with the input pull-up definition for GPIO 1 2) I compiled the dts with the "armbian-add-overlay" tool 3) rebooted the NanoPi Neo2 That's it. The dts file can be placed anywhere on the Nanopi Neo2 eg. /home/pi/sun50i-h5-nanopi-neo2-pullup.dts nano /home/pi/sun50i-h5-nanopi-neo2-pullup.dts The content of sun50i-h5-nanopi-neo2-pullup.dts looks like this: /dts-v1/; …

Dear Friends, I have been testing Armbian 22.04 Current CLI version and 22.01 Edge Jammy CLI and both does not reboot. When I reboot Armbian the LEDs stop to blinking but I can clearly listen the rust-drives spinning, also the LCD is still active. Initially I though it was because the software that handles the LCD but I made a test without it and it was the same. I also thought that was because the spin drives, but when I did the test I made it without the disks as well, therefore I excluded both cases. Since I didn't read anything about it, I think this issue is affecting just me, any idea where I may look to find out what …

Hello, I decided to monitor some temperature stuff at home and used few ds18b20 w1 sensors and they work, but due to some cable limitation and number of the sensors at same point they failed. I decided to test with 10 meters CAT5 FTP cable, changed pull up resistor to 4KO and 3 ds18b20 work at 10m cable on 3.3V, If I add one more they all fail. I switched volatage to 5V and all good, but I wondering is it possible to initialize w1 bus on another GPIO? After I google that and so some reading, people achieve that on raspberry but they patched the kernel somehow. Any idea how can that be done on armbian?

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. My background is software development but not very experienced in the Linux SBC world. So, I have 2x Radxa Zero 3W (not listed on Armbian) with a Rockchip 3566 MCU. And here the questions start... - why don't the Orange Pi 3B or Quartz 64B Armbian images, with the same MCU, don't work on the Radxa Zero 3W ? Aka, shouldn't an OS be portable ? I'm not expecting such of Windows, but I did expect it from Linux - what do the loaders contain exactly ? I have this situation where an older loader seems to boot with Armbian (and then shuts down) but a newer one doesn't... yet the older one doesn't work with the OS from Radxa …

I have some DYI idea to make some custom ODBII Logger using SBC with Armbian. So I'm searching for suitable SBC: - quite small (50x50mm max), IoT category I think - with H3, at least 512MB RAM - eMMC at least 4GB, SD Cards support - 1 USB for pendrive - wifi in AP mode, just for ssh and copying small files via scp - second UART, freen 2xGPIO, and nice to have audio line-out also - and the most important: running Armbian in headless mode with booting from eMMC - working DVFS to keep temperature in lower levels, no heat dissipation problems (SBC will mostly work with low cpu usage, but I don't really know how low can be CPU/DRAM clock…

New to Armbian... I am working on Armbian 21.08 Bullseye as it is suppose to work on Odroid HC4 and it uses uboot from the mSD card. I downloaded the image from https://redirect.armbian.com/odroidhc4/Bullseye_current I wrote it to SD card with xzcat Armbian_21.08.9_Odroidhc4_bullseye_current_5.10.81.img.xz | dd of=/dev/mmcblk0 status=progress bs=4M Connected the serial console, inserted the mSD card and LAN cable and booted (no HD yet). I am getting a # prompt when I should be getting a login to login as root. So something is not write. Do I have to delete the bootloader as discussed at https://www.armbian.com/odroid-hc4/ …

Greetings all; I have a pile of bananapi-m5's, all used behind a home.arpa local network. I am the only one here, and no one but me will ever have access to these machines. So I need full access from any other machine on my local network. I updated one that I am slowly configuring to drive a bigger enter5+ 3d printer. New mobo in the rinter so I am starting from square one. Using klipper and mainsail as web interfaces to klipper. Now it goes to a no screen condition at about the time it used to bring up the login requester, but I can still access it via ssh -X me & my pw., but don't have full access cuz x or whatever is not…

I'm spending some time on one of those famous Q8 tv boxes (ENY Q8, VSmart Q8, etc...) which sports the rk3288 soc I started with recent u-boot and kernel releases. Rockchip provides a recent u-boot (late 2017) and an LTS 4.4 kernel on their rockchip-linux github account. I compiled u-boot (from here) using a the device tree source from DengueTim (available here, in arch/arm/boot/dts/rk3288-q8.dts). I had to enable the serial driver though, because the device tree is "kernel flavour", instead u-boot wanted explicitly the serial port in "chosen" section. Compilation goes fine and u-boot boots from the SD card, prints Model, Ram and MMC infos on …

I have a cubietruck board and successfully moved my Armbian installation from my microSD card to my SSD. I would like to clean up the microSD card now and shrink it to a smaller size, so I can move the content to a smaller card. What do I actually need on that card to be able to boot to SSD? Just the '/boot' folder or does the boot loader need any other data to do its magic?

Hi, My Armbian Debian Buster install has the package "armbian-firmware" installed at version 19.11.3.346. Since a few days/weeks, the package is no longer available on the APT repository. I couldn't find a reference in the documentation/forum about its removal, so I don't know if its absence is intentional or due to a bug. If intentional, I should probably install the regular linux-firmware packages from Debian instead? So basically if I wish to backup the sd card after installing the Armbian OS, how would I do that? In raspbian we put the image to sd card using win32diskimager. To backup the sd card we can just read the data back to computer and name the img file. How can we do that in armbian at least the easy way? Why we can view raspbian image's folder from window? What I understand is linux use ext4 file format which window cannot recognise as with armbian sd card? Many Many thanks!!

I've had two Cubietrucks running almost flawlessly for about 10 years on Armbian/Buster and previous versions. I recently decided to install Bookworm using Armbian_23.8.1_Cubietruck_bookworm_current_6.1.47.img.xz. On this I encountered several problems, whose causes I never fully uncovered, but got over them. One of these problems was that neither manual setup nor the use of armbian-config allowed for a lasting configuration of the German keyboard layout, although "Personal Setting" says the opposite (see att. image No.2). It's a pain in the neck, really. All I could filter out is a commandline message that's only visible a second. See the last screenshot with fou…

I installed the Armbian desktop environment via armbian-config. Then I disabled it, and I saw that many of the packages were uninstalled by my next "apt upgrade". I want to install them again, but armbian-config only lets me "enable" or "disable" the Desktop now. It won't install anything anymore. So my question is how do I redo what armbian-config did during the first time, to reinstall all Armbian desktop files?
