Not sure exactly where to post this, or how to ask it, but here goes... In the 'olden days' of my Linux adventures, compiling one's own kernel was standard practice. Thankfully, now many years later, I have become content with the 'standard' kernels (e.g. Debian) that are available to me on my x86 computers. Now, enter the world of ARM-based computing, and the possible return of self-compiled kernels. In my specific case, I am interested in using Pi-like devices to run a GPS-based time server with the additional accuracy of PPS. From my understanding, there are two optional-but-useful changes that would be required to maximal accuracy: - turnin…

Hello, I am trying to setup a hotspot with a static IP using hostapd, dnsmasq on wlan0, which is unmanaged by network-manager. wlan1 is managed by network-manager, and uses dns=dnsmasq inside the network-manager.conf file. I have disabled systemd-avahi-daemon.socket + service and deteded isc-dhclient-X (common), because it seems my DNS is conflicting. Now it happens that the power management goes ON, on wlan1, altough I have wifi.power_save = 2. How can this all happen? Just want to use /etc/network/interfaces the anachronistic way, but network-manager and other dns services from the beginning are conflicting. Can …

Hello, Is it possible to set the speed of the UART3 to 921600 baud instead of 115000? How to do it? I need to connect to an arduino at that speed. I have tried with minicom but I can't get it. I have also tried to put the following command dtoverlay=miniuart-bt in /boot/armbianEnv.tx but it doesn't work either. to 115000 if I can connect well, therefore the port works correctly Is there any way?

Hello, Thanks to the help here I got to install a latest armbian mainline version with the Lima OpenGL 2.1 support functional that might have not helped the desktop but is still nice to see the o.s. using any part of this system on a chip. To make some test after glxinfo e glxgears I tried the yquake2 engine with the demo old game and it works. I was expecting considering how old the game is to work faster even if it's accelerated for sure and expecting better quality results (bilinear filtering is not the best and sometimes objects disappear and reappear depending on the scene but it's a good test anyway). I heard lately that has been released a free sof…

Hi, currently I have armbian installed on an SD-Card with kernel 3.4.112-sun7i on Banana Pi. I'd like to test how armbian works installed on SATA with vanilla-kernel. Therefore I would install armbian (Vanilla) on SATA. Switching between both systems would then require a shutdown, exchange of SD-Card and startup the system again. Since i am a lazy person I'd like to know whether it is possible to use the SD-Card with 3.4.112 and just exchange the folder /boot with the one from the SD-Card I installed armbian-Vanilla on SATA (to avoid standing up, walking to the banana pi which is located in another room, exchanging the SD-Card, rebooting, walking back and sitting …

Hey, i bought somewhere on the end of internet some board with AllWinner A10 - ARM Cortex A8 processor. Board was cheap (15$) and had info about compatibility with Armbian. Sound good deal for tests. BUT of course cant be so easy It was true, Armbian working but only version 5.24 Jessie for Lime-A10 from previous age. All newest version booting well but without working usb ports. What i figured out its a problem with device tree configuration but Armbian based on Jessie working with fex files, all newest distributions unfortunately with dts files responsible for device tree config and i dont know how to set up device tree in newer versions. Hi, I've read this post but it's two years old. What I need is a SBC (in order to save some energy costs, otherwise have to go to x86) that could be used as a small SOHO firewall and router and also small file and backup server. I'd need gigabit ethernet (preferably with dedicated controller), at least one, could buy a dongle to have another port. A SATA interface would be nice, otherwise USB 3 is needed. Probably at least two USB 3, one for the ethernet dongle, another for the SATA disk. UASP support would be great. The lower the cost and the more stable the best. What do you recommend?

Hello to all. I'm trying to use the image Armbian_5.25_Orangepipcplus_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.9.4.img but I can not operate the webcam. With the image of the previous version, the webcam worked with gs2035 and vte_v42l modules, which can not find in the current image. Is it an omission or there are compatibility issues? Where could I find instructions (simple, if possible) to compile them? Thank you.

So I have managed to partially pull out one of the usb sockets on my tv box. The little plastic piece that holds the 4 metal pins has come out while I was pulling out a slightly deformed usb cable. The box still worked while it was on. After a reboot it is not coming on. The LEDs and VFD don't come on. It doesn't boot into armbian or android. Is it safe to say that it is dead? I think I am going to have to try and lift those metal pins. Because they are touching the metal usb housing. Perhaps that is causing a short-circuit somewhere. If all else fails I will try to desolder the whole usb slot. Update: I have bent …

I think I have a bad gc2035 module that I'll soon put aside, but there's something odd I don't understand. I thought the sensor was completely trashed, but it produced a halfway decent image when aske…

Trying to download armbian for rockpi-4a, following the link https://redirect.armbian.com/rockpi-4a/ on https://www.armbian.com/rock-pi-4/ In one case, this resolves to https://mirrors.netix.net/armbian/dl/rockpi-4a/, which shows an empty directory except for an archive subdirectory that is empty too. clicking around through the armbian/dl folder, this seems to be only empty directories for any board. In another case, the redirect resolves to https://minio.k-space.ee/armbian which just returns XML gibberish.

Just after writing the image on the SDcard, I start tuning rc.local and crontab. Hello ! I'm trying to make DuetSoftwareFirmware (software to control 3D printers boards using a SBC) working on a OrangePi4B using armbian (The software works well on raspberry pi 3 and 4). Dears, I have recently posted several issues wrt. OPi0+. GPIO (sysfs), armbian-config (bug confirmed by Igor), WiFi AP, GPIO event handling. Except for GPIO, where high activity is going on, I cannot find anything in "GitHub-issues" about the other problems, I have raised. I therefore would like to know, what would be the right place to rise issues? Here in the forum, or in GitHub? I mean "issues", not "how tos"

Hi there, I don't know yet much about the USB gadget framework, but was wondering it I could use it to make an Orange Pi Zero or One seen as a video sink by the host computer. I know the framework should allow the board to be seen as an audio source, a video source, a Midi device and other things, but could it be seen as a video consumer of some sort ? My goal would be to grab the host's webcam content, encode and stream it on the SBC so that the host's CPU still has resource for other tasks. Does it make sense ? Thanks.

Is there anyway to recover the sysctl.conf file or any other way to stop the booting process and login to revert my changes? or another way to fix these timeout messages?

hello. first i want to say thank you to every armbian supporter and the hole team. thanks for providing this nice project and your work. i did some work for adding an external sound card - the audioinjector pi stereo, which is based on a wm8731. i used the radxa rockpi4(b) board based on the rk3399. i choose this board because of pinout header is nearly the same as the one you find on raspberrys. so adding/ using raspberry Hats won´t be too hart in this case. this will also work with radxa kernel https://github.com/verplant23/kernel so there shouldn´t be any troubles porting it to armbian legacy. i´m not a coder and i don´t kno…

Hello everyone. I'm using the latest version of armbian for the NanoPi R2S. I noticed that the board has 4 exposed GPIO ports on the board. I'm interested in using the RX1 and TX1 and use it for the UART interface. It seems I cannot use it. It might be disabled by default. Can somebody confirm or not if UART1 is enabled by default and if not what should I do to enable it ? Thanks Guillaume

Good afternoon. I install Armbian on OrangePi_+2 and OrangePi_PC. I have a problem: on OrangePi_+2 and OrangePi_PC not set static_IP to Wicd_Network_Manager for Ethernet, but for WiFi static_IP installed. Question: how to replace Wicd_Network_Manager old Network_Manager. I need it to work with multiple networks. I tried to remove wicd and install network-manager, but had a terrible problem with rights. For earlier grateful.

Dear all, I come with a basic question: is armbian for H3 advanced enough and without roadblocks future proof, or is it still risky? Should it soon become mainline or for one or more years, it will be mainly for advanced users? I need to set-up a Openelec platform with software DSP features (ALSA, LADSPA, SOX...). I need easy to setup audio features (over USB, I2S, HDMI). I'm far from being a Linux expert. I don' t know how to compile an image, I discover SBC world.... I don't want to enter in too steep learning curve, and be able to focus on my project. Are H3 and Orange pi products ok for me, or would you advice to go directly to Rpi? I understand that there…

Hiya, Goal: Ok so I'm after a high speed synchronous serial interface (50mhz would be nice) with reasonably flexible clocking options so I can tweak it up and down. The goal is to implement a "fast as possible" SWD debug interface to a Cortex M0; ideally the serial interface could be run arbitrarily fast until the target M0 or the wiring can't handle it. If can do 48mhz I can basically read/write one 32-bit word per microsecond over swd, so 4MB/sec, and I want to process that a little and send it to a PC (obviously ethernet). I especially care about consistent, gap-free, no jitter on this serial interface. So SPI is the obvious choice but I'm…

Hi! I've been running two sbc (Odroid HC2) for about 1,5 years. I recently realised that the os it is running on is outdated (Debian Stretch with Armbian Linux 4.14.150-odroidxu4). There is a nextcloud instance running on it and I really (!) like the stability of my setup. So far, I've had one (1) crash in 1,5 years on a system that is running 24/7, maybe heat related in the hot summer. Reboot automatically once a week, nightly off-site backup, login via ssh-keys. So my question is...: Shall I update and if yes shall I do this from a fresh install or is there a built-in way? Thanks!

Does it make sense? I would like to use the mainline armbian kernel on a custom minimal Buildroot image to use on a orange pi zero. Buildroot because of its lightness and armbian because it has Opi audio drivers and codec that doesn't seem to be included in Buildroot default kernel. If this is possible, could you help me with the configuration of Buildroot to use armbian as kernel?

Hi I want to modify base armbian image using choot in order to install necessary software. I am also creating user during that process. My question is how can I skip or prefill the form that appears on first run? (user creation, time zone setting etc.) I was surfing the forum and found this answer. So, I came up with few options: 1) It looks like I can prefill my desired values for the form in "/usr/lib/armbian/armbian_firstlogin" file by editing it during chroot 2) I can remove user input parts in "/usr/lib/armbian/armbian_firstlogin", but preserve other important lines, since user will be created during chroot Is this valid options or there …

My trusty Cubieboard II has been working great for a long time now, but after doing an upgade, it fails to now boot. It operates headless as a simple server for my off-grid home energy system and Lithium battery monitoring. I found I wasn't able to post this over in the A20 section, so hopefully someone from over in that section will come over here to read. Details I still have in my terminal screen, so I can copy to here. I have a Odroid XU4 board that I am trying to build an image for and it will not boot from any images I have built from the compile.sh pulled from github. The board u-boot led doesn't turn on (solid blue) and nothing is displayed from the hdmi port. I select SD card image and have tried writing it with Win32 imager, Etcher, and the dd command. I did get an Ubuntu image downloaded from Odroid to work so the board is not faulty. Nothing has worked and I'm at a loss as to why when I personally compile an image it does not work. Thanks for the help

I have attempted to install OMV on my orange pi various times and i have had the same issue weather with the OMV after installation or with the armbian os before the OMV installation. when you start the system, it just won't get it's Ip automatically, at first i thought my orange pi came with a problem from fabric since I'm new to this but after attempting to put an Ip statically seemingly making it work I noticed that it just would not be set automatically. Now surely you might think it's a problem with my router set up, but this won't happen when I try it out with any other equipment in my house or when i just run regular Linux in my laptop, even when i run the OrangePi…

I'm running Armbian buster on an Orange Pi PC plus single board computer. In Armbian Stretch I used to be able to use the analogue output in stereo mode so I could use this sbc as a music player, but after upgrading to Buster pavucontrol only gives me the following option for analogue sound output (the other Built-in audio source is HDMI audio wich works fine in stereo mode but I'm not using): I would highly appreciate if someone could help me fix this issue. I have already tried reinstalling pulseaudio and copying the configuration files from the previous Stretch installation, but didn't have any luck with that.

Unable to comment with Firefox on RK3399 in the Armbian forum. See image. Since Chromium isn't working right with Google account I've been using Firefox instead on the M4V2. For a few days I'm unable to comment on the Armbian forum itself with it. In Chromium this works (since I'm commenting with Chromium now) Also have an issue with Facebook not always loading fully in Firefox, don't know if it's related. Just saying so it's known. Cheers.

What is the supported way, if any, to redirect /var/log.hdd to a directory located on a real HDD drive? One of my systems has an eMMC to boot and operate from, and a HDD hooked up on the USB3 port. "Ideally" I'd like to use only the HDD, but the poor/incomplete USB3 boot support on the Rock64 V2 (with Bionic at least) had me to buy an eMMC and live quietly with it. As it is, I'd like to move out of the eMMC all the data that is either written often, or that it could get bigger with time passing. For the logs, however, I don't think to have found a clean way to support the relocation of /var/log.hdd on a different drive/partition, unless I hack the armbian-raml…

Hello I am running a NanoPi M4 (kernel 4.4) with /boot on SD and / on an USB-attached disk. At the time I ran `nand-sata-install` ext4 seemed like a good choice. I want to snapshot the file system as a preparation step to backing up, so it looks like I have 2 choices now: 1. ext4 on LVM 2. btrfs -> Will 1. work with u-boot/armbian at all? Which solution is recommended? My guess is that btrfs would be the easiest, so the next question is -> can I go and a) `btrfs-convert /` b) update rootfs in armbianEnv.txt, or is there any other step involved? Regards -Patrick
