Hello! I've got unnamed board with Allwinner A20 and FORESEE 8G memory, in completed device with HR215WU1-120 LVDS display. Spoiler It was working on Android 4.0 system, but someone needed to replace android with linux os system. LVDS display was lost when owner put SD card with linaro in slot for the first time. Now we have Linaro 14.04 command line, Spoiler and SD class 10 card with Armbian_20.02.0-rc1_Cubieboard_bionic_current_5.4.14 image, burned with Etcher. So. If power on without SD card - linaro starting in command line. If try to boot …

If I understand the custom-image script is run as a chroot after the image is built. So didn't see anything specifically in the docs but can I ONLY run (from compile script) the custom image script on an already already built image (in /output/images)? Along the same lines can I chroot at any time to the image via the compile script? I should mention that I am using the docker container build for arm on my amd machine. (i.e. ./compile.sh docker.... )

Let me start by saying thank you all for the great work, it is appreciated! So a bit of info first. board: firefly rk3399-pc pro ( yeah I know it’s old, but so am I!) os: armbian Debian trixie kernel: 6.18.35 Bear with me, last time I touched Linux, lilo and xfree86 were things… I installed the community supported rk3399-firefly as I didn’t find a better match for the pro. Most of the hardware worked with the major exception of the audio. No problem, the rk3399-roc-plus.dts had the correct audio for the board all I needed to do was switch the audio portion into the rk3399-firefly.dts (though other aspects including just booti…

I wanted to build the cli version but didn't see an obvious way to do that with conf variables and the docs don't illuminate that choice. so I tried BUILD_MINIMAL=no BUILD_DESKTOP=no and that seems to do force the cli version. Just suggesting that this might be easier to grok if the variable was say BUILD_TYPE=(desktop|cli|minimal|custom) with maybe default cli where custom might be a rootfs that is custom (like one I put together) and thus doesn't need to be reconstructed from the custom-image script. Maybe setting custom then RELEASE could hold the path to the tarball? If that seems better mayb…

I installed and compiled varios browsers based on QtWebKit - falkon, konqueror, otter-browser - and they are all pretty fast compared to their chromium/firefox colleagues. Unfortunately, the input of special characters (é, ñ, ü, ß) doesn't work. The letters appear as UTF code. However, the letters are displayed correctly in chromium/midori/firefox, and the console. Thus, I blame Qt. This is very annoying e.g. for webmailing and editing text, since typing in languages with special characters such as Spanish and German is practically impossible. Any idea how to fix that?

Tested with speakers and headphones, now working right channel in 3.5 mm. Speakers and headphones works correctly with another devics. Tested on official builds(firstly), pulseaudio, pipewire+wireplumber, also tested self-builded via official building script with same drivers. Speaker-test detects only front left channel. What it may be? How I can fix that? Thanks in advance.

Dear Armbian community I am currently porting some project from Debian/amd64 to Armbian (Debian GNU/Linux7 Wheezy) with shell and python and its impressive ! I though noticed strange behaviour on some command execution via variable and will here focus on a simple date sync example : 1. nc command : from shell or from script : nc time.nist.gov 13 revert a typical 46 char long ASCII answer. via a variable, a=$(nc time.nist.gov 13) ; $a delivers the same time server answer followed by the list of dir & files in the current dir, space separated. explicit error : $a | hexdump -v -C 2. date command from the shell or from script : …

Contemplating whether or not I should pull the trigger and buy a new camera. Images were taken with an OV5640 camera attached to an orange pi PC. The first image is a good image, then after a few hours of use I start getting issues; reading images either times out and/or results in corrupted images. On X86 and AMD64 systems they all have either the UEFI bios or the old bios. I don't know what the Raspberry Pi uses but I don't think it's UEFI. Do any of the ARM systems use UEFI? How does Armbian boot on the non-UEFI systems?

After upgrading to 5.14.2 I found that 1.5Ghz was missing for the LITTLE cores, what had previously been available with the optimized board settings. dmesg output: [ 0.982387] exynos-chipid 10000000.chipid: cpu0 opp0, freq: 1500 missing [ 0.982499] exynos-chipid 10000000.chipid: cpu4 opp0, freq: 2100 missing I decompiled the DTB file and found no 1.5Ghz section within in the opp-table1.

Hi everyone, I've updated my pcDuino via: Sudo apt-get update Sudo apt-get upgrade I can reach 8.8.8.8 from the terminal and google.com from the Chromium browser. However, I cannot reach any other website. I am guessing it has to do with the latest TLS requirements. TLS 2.0 is required for 99% of global websites. I'm presuming my pcDuino is on an older version for TLS 1.0/1/1 Any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated Thanks

I've installed Armbian on my brand new Odroid N2. I realise it still is WIP, but almost everything works great. There is just one issue, which prevents me from setting it up the way I want. I use my eMMC card to boot the system. I've also added a larger A1 SD card for application data. However, after a reboot the SD card isn't recognized. There isn't even a message about it in dmesg log. But when, after booting, I remove the SD card and insert it, all of the sudden it's detected and mounted. Does anyone know how I kan make this happen at boot, so I don't need to physically access the device in order to use it after a reboot?

Sorry if this in the wrong spot. I need a bit of help here, I once or twice updated the kernel on the Rock64 from older versions but I've always ran into an issue where it just wouldn't boot anymore and needed to be re-flashed. I run a always up server that has to have little to no downtime and I wish to avoid having to re-flash again. So I want to know if its safe or not to upgrade to 4.4.174 from 4.4.167 I can provide more info if needed. Thanks

Hi, Armbian gurus. I have make a new kernel and related modules for my pineh64 and want to test it. Thus they are not from dpkg. To test this kernel and modules. I have few questions: 1. About the symbolic links in /boot, are they all mandatory? What if I don't have an initramfs? 2. The Image linked file, is it have to be limited to certain compressed format to work properly? 3. Is there a recommended work flow to test a external kernel? Or I can just test by replacing Image, dtb, and the modules? Thank you.

Excuse my ignorance all but I'm not familiar with this type of thing. I got my OP 4 lts running with the latest jammy HOWEVER, the resolution is wrong for the 5" HDMI screen I'm using, The screens touch function is not working, and I can't SSH into it via wifi because I can't seem to find what port it is on. If any of you can help me out here, I'd appreciate it.

I am using an orangePi and I had some scripts with bash but now I have put a screen with more resolution and now I see the text very small. How can you make the text look bigger? I have seen that if I press shift + +/- it increases the size of the letters and with stty size I see that the value of columns and rows has varied. But if I put stty cols 102 rows 29 it does not change the size of the characters. It doesn't work either if I run resize. What can I do?

Hello to everyone. Being new around here I figured to drop one message here first... So, i have this Radxa Rock 4D SBC and i am quite impressed with it Me being me and SBC being what it is, yada... yada, i now have this hat+ from Waveshare - it is an dual SATA to PCIe adapter. It was designed for the Raspberry pi 5 obviously but Radxa has since started putting those FPC connectors on and i really would appreciate a 24/7 NAS with a SBC footprint... Long story short, it does not work out of the box - i have no doubt the product is okay it's just the HAT fails to initiate the OS and register. It reportedly has an eprom with data o…

If you're getting poor/bad audio performance from an audio VST on the N2+, it can sometimes be the context switching between the BIG.little ARM cores. In my case, Pianoteq was giving me a lot of x-runs and wide fluctuations in performance when it switched between the 2x low-performance and 4x high-performance cores. One way to get more stable performance is to assign the application to the 4x high-performance cores like this. taskset -c 2,3,4,5 'Pianoteq 7' On the N2+ the 2x low-performance are numbered 0 and 1. The 4x high-performance cores are 2,3,4,5. 'Pianoteq 7 STAGE' is the name of the application being assigned. This is more useful …

Hi all, Using Armbian Focal for a couple of years now and booting from an SSD plugged to USB (used the armbian installer to move to it) and it always worked perfectly but after an apt-update (stupid of me I know) I'm now stuck on a boot loop, it looks like the entire system is fubar'd. I don't mind formatting and reinstalling everything, the problem is that I lost the eMMC to USB converter I had and can't find any in the UK... Attached an image of what I'm seeing. Anything I can do to either salvage or do a fresh new install without the eMMC converter? Can be removed. Did a full format.

Does anybody have the proven experiance that a NanoPi Neo-LTS is a drop-in replacement (no SW changes) for a NanoPi Neo? And is a NanoPi Neo2 a drop-in replacement for Neo and/or Neo-LTS? Hello I flashed EDK2 to SPI and I am able to enter the UEFI menu and change things, but it seems that u-boot takes over the boot process to actually boot the kernel. I also built a custom resolute image using the command below which I flashed to SDCard: Then I added a Grub entry for the SDCard image with this custom build but when I boot it it shows that u-boot is being used not UEFI. The default Grub boot is from emmc with an EFI FAT32, /boot EXT4, and / F2FS which is armbian trixie, and it works well - but with u-boot so I am trying to test how booting via pure UEFI will work so I can migrate to a pure UEFI se…

Hello everyone, I am new to Armbian and need some help. I tried to install Armbian 26.2.0-trunk (https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-neo/#collapse-widget-5-0-0-0) on a NanoPi NEO Core SBC. I used Armbian Imager and wrote the latest official image (the only one available) to the SD card. After writing the image, I see only one partition on the SD card named armbi_root. When I insert the card into the device and power it on, nothing happens — there are no boot messages or logs. I think the image is missing a bootloader. So my questions are: 1) If I’m right that the bootloader is missing, how can I add a bootloader to the image? 2) How can…

Hello, I'm actually working on the implementation of the MAX9860 Mono Audio Voice Codec in the devicetree. TheTLV320AIC3204 audio codec works fine and the operating system (Linux embedded) can see it with the command "aplay -l". So in the kernel, i have activated the MAX9860 audio codec, however, i don't know how to declare it in the device tree next to my TLV codec. Hi, picked up a Rock 5b+ as it looked like the exact right board hardware wise and the rk3588 is getting a reasonable amount of support and happy to see it's officially supported by Armbian. Was able to build and flash the UEFI image and boot into the Fedora installer which would allow a RAID install but unfortunately it doesn't support either the PCIe bifurcation needed for both m.2 slots to work or the hardware acceleration for transcoding. Ramlog.service postrotate will execute a cat from /var/log.hdd directory to /var/log directory while rsyslog.service is always outputting stuffs in the background to /var/log directory. This in general has no problem except for some files which are mostly preoccupied with output from rsyslog during logrotate activation, namely syslog and a varieties of journals entries. I have found some of these postrotate failures with cryptic messages as write errors from cat and corresponding rsyslogd omfile module stating lost messages. I suspect two independent processes competing to send output to same files hence causing these errors. I don't know enough of detail but I think ther…

I have a Pinebook Pro and installed Focal xfce on its eMMC. I would like to swith to i3. So I have installed `i3`, `i3status` and `i3lock` using apt. Then I have altered the `user-session` config of lightdm from `xfce` to `i3` (actually did this at three places). With all this done, I still end up in XFCE. Hints on where to look further are welcome.

Looking at lscpu reports turns out that my board is vulnerable to spectre v2 because eBPF is enabled. I tryed to disable it by using sysctl but it seems it doesn't work (this is the solution used by ubuntu distributions to solve the problem 'sudo sysctl kernel.unprivileged_bpf_disabled=1 or 2'). I'm on Debian version. Is this option kernel dependent?

Hello everyone, maybe I can get a solution here. My banana Pi M1 mainly runs as an energy-saving recording module for web radio etc. and is occasionally updated "by hand". Since I felt the bananian was hopelessly outdated, armbian runs on the dwarf. Recently there was also the update from 5.10 to 5.15. Kernel included: linux-dtb-current-sunxi/focal 22.02.1 armhf [aktualisierbar von: 21.08.2] linux-image-current-sunxi/focal 22.02.1 armhf [aktualisierbar von: 21.08.2] Unfortunately, the banana Pi can no longer be shut down cleanly, kernel panic, hangs and does not switch off. Reinstalled the old kernel and stapled it down, all good a…

Hi, I have read the topic about emmc backuping, thank to @martinayootte . Now, how do I restore from backup? New Nano Pi has booted. SD/USB card with backup image is attached. Must I simply use dd form "if" to emmc? Is it correct? Emmc contains image that is being run now, and as far as I know, some files are locked? Does it matter? Brgs, Aleksei Mikutskiy

Greetings! My first foray into Armbian. Apparently the Link Star H68K is hardware equivalent to the Hinlink H68K. I'm trying to install one of the community supported Armbian images (Debian Trixie, Ubuntu 26.04) for the Hinlink onto a Link Star H68K, using the RKDevTool from the Seeed Studio wiki. And failing. The only image that loads into RKDevTool is the Lubuntu 20.04 from the Seeed Studio wiki. It's just a tad out of date. Any pointers on getting a more up-to-date OS installed would be most welcome. AFAIK my device is OG, not V2. I've also tried booting from TF card, but the device refuses to boot at all wit…

The Main part Is You Buying A Module and Plugging Your Fan Into It. : Here you go — two solid solderless picks: 1. Adafruit MOSFET Driver #5648 (the clean reference — genuine logic-level AO3406, flyback diode already onboard, jumper-friendly header, ~$4): https://www.adafruit.com/product/5648 Also stocked via resellers (Mouser/DigiKey/Pimoroni) if you search "Adafruit 5648." 2. Generic 3.3 V-trigger dual-MOSFET board (cheapest, everywhere, screw terminals — fully solderless; just add a flyback diode across the fan since these usually omit it): https://www.amazon.com/ANMBEST-Trigger-Adjustment-Electronic-Control/dp/B08TW9RB49 …

Hi everyone, I'm very new to Armbian Linux. I'm about to acquire Orange Pi Zero 2W for my audio project. I have read some of the forum posts related to the SOC's native I2S, and I'd like to know if those problems mentioned in the posts have been resolved in the new kernel? Meaning that users don't have to write and compile their own device tree overlay and kernel mode driver? My project require a full duplex I2S with the CODEC as the master. Nothing fancy, just 2 channels in and 2 channels out. Hope someone can help clear the doubts so that I know for sure I will not be buying what I can not use. Thanks

The new Orange Pi 4 Pro image connects to Bluetooth keyboards perfectly, but typing doesn't work because uinput is completely missing from the 6.6.98-vendor-sun60iw2 kernel config.

Hi, I'm a long time Armbian user and overall extremely happy. It my default Linux distro everywhere! Thanks to everyone who is developing or contributing to it! Every time I pickup a new board and deploy Armbian I have to edit the `armbianEnv.txt` file and change verbosity to 7. The same question repeats in my head. Why is it not the default? Systemd and startup messages spam up like crazy and they have nothing interesting to offer. I do care what hardware did the kernel detect or was a protocol correctly negotiated etc. I personally would have it in reverse, verbose kernel, quiet systemd. But thats just me. Could we at least have parity, if syst…

Hi, First time poster, so immediately confused with the tags. tag was required but could not find one for Radxa Rock 4se. I want to get the raspberry pi camera working in ubuntu on my rock 4se. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks!

Hi, `zfs-dkms` package's module-building process on Armbian-ubuntu-noble has been unsuccessful with recent versions of the linux-current-meson64 kernel/headers/dtb that is higher than `26.5.1` (I'm not sure if `26.5.1` is the highest version that works with `zfs-dkms`; there might be a working version higher than `26.5.1`, but my fail-safe version has been this one.) Can someone help me keep updating linux kernel without breaking zfs-dkms? I attach the output of `apt` just in case: ```sh $ sudo apt install linux-image-current-meson64 Reading package lists... I am creating the image from source from the Armbian build repository on GitHub for an Orangepi5. I have altered the kernel configuration to force module signing. The .config is attached. My problem is that after the build there is no signing_key.pem in /certs. But when I get the source from Torvalds repository and not using Armbian build the file gets created. The following helps to realize the scope of my question: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v6.1/admin-guide/module-signing.html#generating-signing-keys .config

Hello everyone, I urgently need help, as I am on the verge of throwing my Khadas out the window. I bought a used Khadas Vim3L HTPC Kit (S905D3) and want to use it for Navidrome and Audiobookshelf. The FLAC files are located on an external 2.5" WD Elements hard drive, first I intended to format this hard drive to ext4 and set it up in the setup process but it doesnt work and the first thing now is to setup the system,i will add the hd later. Currently, the Vim boots into CoreELEC (which appears to be installed on the internal storage of the vim). Im a total noob and thats my first vim / Board. I just can't seem to get it to work; no matter what I d…

So I'm fairly new to Armbian (although I have already managed to successfully create a custom build with most of what I need). Sadly, I've very much hit a blocker. I really need to use linux-tools/perf on an RK3588 board with a vendor kernel (I'm using the Mali OpenCL, and the ARM packages are mostly locked) and I need to do some performance tuning. I cannot figure out how to get these tools deployed. 1. There are no linux-tools packages build -- which is fair enough, I'm probably in a minority. Some parts of the tools directories are culled during a cleaning process for the headers, I can see that 2. I am happy to copy over the kernel source and build o…

If you've tried hardware video on an Allwinner A733 (Orange Pi 4 Pro, Radxa A7Z), you've probably hit this: there's no V4L2 decoder, and omxh264dec advertises video/x-raw(memory:DMABuf) but aborts in gst_omx_video_dec_negotiate if you actually ask for it. So everyone falls back to videoconvert ! ximagesink and burns ~1.8 CPU cores on 1080p. The vendor OMX component reports the proprietary colour format 0x7f000002 through a malformed port-format enumeration, so gst-omx can't build a negotiation map. You can chase that a long way. Don't. libOmxVdec.so is a wrapper over libvdecoder.so, and that lower library is what actually owns the decode surfaces. VideoPicture.n…

Hi everybody With freshly installed armbian (commit id: d9fb61be0) I created a new uboot config file: ./compile.sh uboot-config BOARD=orangepizeroplus BRANCH=current SHARE_LOG=yes This creates the file: ./output/defconfig-uboot-orangepizeroplus-current But the command: ./compile.sh uboot BOARD=orangepizeroplus BRANCH=current SHARE_LOG=yes does not compile uboot, it just touches ./output/debs/linux-u-boot-orangepizeroplus-current_26.11.0-trunk_arm64__2026.07-*.deb file. Do I miss something? Do I have to copy the file ./output/defconfig-uboot-orangepizeroplus-current to a place in ./userpatches? …

Hi, FYI, there might be an issue with old, slow hardware. Yesterday I installed the minimal Ubuntu 26.04 current 6.18.24 downloaded from https://armbian.com/boards/bananapi on my old Banana Pi on an similar old 8GB SD by sandisk. It runs normaly, but cannot set up the end0 during booting. Doing an "ip link set end0 up" manually on cli afterwards immediately activated end0, so my solution was using an script to do this command after booting. The AI aiding me thinks it's just the slow hardware causing a timeout when it should set up the interface during booting. Just wanted to let you know.

I am new to Ambian and am trying to boot up to it for the first time. I have both an Orange Pi 6 Plus and an Orange Pi Zero 3. Using the Armbian Imager, I had no problem finding the images recomended for my units. My problem is that neither of the devices can boot up to the desktop. They will boot up to a text console where I can configure Wifi, root password, intitial user name, and locale. After that, they state that they are starting the desktop or running some script and continue no further. That I see uniform and reliable failure across the images and the devices make me think that I may be doing something wrong. But I cannot find some step documented somewher…

Hello all, earlier I booted up the board (Radxa Dragon Q8B) when it prompted to reboot & update and I allowed it. The update took uncharacteristically long. The OS is running off an SD card. There is no SSD or eMMC installed. Turns out it wiped the install clean. There was about 20 GB of free space prior to the update, now there's 46 GB. For some reason the user itself and the wifi login are still there, but everything in the home directory is gone. Installed applications and the driver for the wireless card are gone. Chrome add-ons are still there, but reset. The Downloads folder now has Armbian_26.8.1_Radxa-dragon-q8b_resolute_vendor_7.0…

I am using Armbian.imager_2.0.4_amd64,AppImage on a Fedora sytem to burn two new Lenovo 256 Gbyte sd with Rpi4b_resolute_current_6.18.42_gnome_desktop_img.xz, and both report a verify failure at 113246208. I am suspicious because two sd's are failing at the same offset. I think that is unlikely, if they both have a manufacturing defect. I think it is more likely a systematic error in the software. tayolepuqi.txt

Hi, I'm new to this game, being mostly a (French) software dev doing backend Node.js. Recently I bought a 21.5" Android kiosk display from Beelta, the T2100AA, to build a custom kiosk for my company. The Android build is bloated, so I wanted something cleaner. I started looking into porting Armbian to this display. Inside there's an SBC identified as a Shimeta AIoT-3568A. There's no Linux support for this board, and the manufacturer wasn't willing to provide any documentation. I started digging with Claude and worked through most of the blockers in under a day. Here's what I found — and possibly a path forward for other Shimeta-based boards too (more on…

I wasn't able to boot from my SD after flashing either `Armbian_26.5.1_Orangepi5-plus_trixie_vendor_6.1.115_minimal` or `Armbian_26.5.1_Orangepi5-plus_resolute_vendor_6.1.115_gnome_desktop` to it. I would get a red power light, but none of the others. I was finally able to boot `Armbian_25.8.1_Orangepi5-plus_noble_vendor_6.1.115_gnome_desktop` after grabbing it from archive.armbian.com, but I'm wondering what the problem may have been? I'd like to get onto the latest Armbian but of course don't want to start having boot issues all over again. Edit: Looks like I may have run into this known issue: https://github.com/armbian/build/issues/…
