Hi everyone, I have a problem with my Cubietruck that I was able to partly debug now, but I really like to have input from those who know more about this setup. On my Cubietruck (trusty, kernel 4.6.5-sunxi), I have a 120GB SSD (no-name brand) and added an ext4 partition and corresponding fstab line to mount it. Booting and mounting this partition works well when I cold start my system, and had powered it off before for a while. But when I do a warm start (sudo reboot), the system hangs on boot, quite reliably (it seems to occasionally work, though). I changed my kernel command line and added 'init=/bin/sh', started a 2nd bash terminal before replacing …

Good morning all, how are you?. I'm looking for help on knowing about the buffer strength on an H3 board, I've been looking on the H3 SoC datasheet and found this about GPIO's: Buffer Strength defines drive strength of the associated output buffer. but I don't know if the buffer is the entire port or not because I can't find any other reference to it and I don't want to fry the board. Can anyone explain me this?. Thanks in advance dor the help.

I'm trying to create a custom Armbian image based on the User Configurations documentation. I can see that I can install additional packages by editing `userpatches/lib.config` and adding entries to the `PACKAGE_LIST_ADDITIONAL` variable, and I can work with custom files like scripts by placing them inside `userpatches/overlay` and accessing them in `/tmp/overlay` via `customize-image.sh`. My question is, does `customize-image.sh` support the below commands given that it executes in a chroot environment: NOTE: Some commands below require `sudo`, but because we're already in a chroot environment, I assume we can run them without `sudo`. 1.…

I'm just trying to create a new image for the ClearFog Pro, b/c I need some special kernel modules built-in. I found it very confusing that Armbian doesn't seem to follow the Ubuntu/Debian traditional scheme for naming kernel modules: linux-image-*, linux-modules-* and linux-headers-*. I need them to cross compile out-of-tree kernel module in `schroot`. Armbian seem to have only `linux-image-edge-rockchip64` and `linux-headers-edge-rockchip64`. What's the reasoning behind such design decision? Moreover, I've noticed kernel packages incorporate all the logic that make the board bootable, instead having more generic kernel binaries and relying on `flash-kernel` tool that both Ubuntu and Debian widely use. I wonder why not? What are chances in future `linux-im…

I installed the linux-image-dev-sunxi64 and linux-dtb-dev-sunxi64 packages, which pulls in the 5.1.5 kernel, and it seems something is amiss in the pinebook dtb. On the 4.19 kernel, pwm-backlight powers on, and you get video output, however, on 5.1.5 once u-boot loads the kernel and it is starting, video output goes away. In the 4.19 kernel, the kern.log shows the following output during boot: May 29 19:15:10 localhost kernel: [ 3.937999] EXT4-fs (mmcblk0p1): mounted filesystem with writeback data mode. I would like to use a CI service to build Armbian images, ideally BitBucket pipelines since that is where most of my projects are. Has anyone had any success doing something similar? I thought it would be easy since docker based builds are supported, but it seems the supported technique is to run a command on the host that starts a separate docker container. Most CI build now are already running in a container and while I think running docker inside docker is possible, I have not been able to get that to work well in the past.

I am having trouble with my SPI LCD, which uses driver panel-mipi-dbi It works great when I use a minimal Armbian image, but with a desktop image it doesn't work. This is because package "plymouth" does something in the ko loading order: it loads panel-mipi-dbi too early. Plymouth provides a graphical boot animation. The driver depends on a binary file /lib/firmware/panel-mipi-dbi-spi.bin (but the file name could change depending on the DTS) At boot time, I saw that the panel-mipi-dbi.ko is loaded BEFORE the EXT4 in the microSD is mounted... and the binary file is not in the initrd.img-version (checked with lsinitramfs) …

Linux 6.12 mainlined PREEMPT_RT, real-time preemption. As far as I understand, one no longer needs to muck about with patches, the kernel can simply be compiled for real-time use with normal compiler flags on any common architecture. This makes Linux suitable for tasks with precise latency requirements, of which there is a lot of in the embedded space. Has anyone tried this on Armbian 25.2 now that it uses the 6.12 kernel? Does it work? How would one compile Armbian with it?

Hi all, I'm using armbian on a cubietruck for various purposes. One of them is HAM radio. BUt I just noticed we don't have support for AX25. In fact, we're missing all HAM-related stuff, so I think it isn't possible to build just the modules: # CONFIG_HAMRADIO is not set What I would need is this: CONFIG_HAMRADIO=y # # Packet Radio protocols # CONFIG_AX25=m # # AX.25 network device drivers # CONFIG_MKISS=m # uname -a Linux cubie.acasa.local 4.3.3-sunxi #3 SMP Mon Dec 28 11:27:16 CET 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux Thanks for your support. It look much more easier task than the previous one with Sunxi-DEV ! @Igor , I've pushed a "rockchip64-4.20" tag that will allow to bring 4.20.y into NEXT if we wish ... Also, is there any reason why RockPro64 still using U-Boot SPL 2017.09-armbian (from Ayufan's branch) instead of Mainline U-Boot such v2019.01 ? If No, I will switch that too ...

U-boot is always a great source of amusement, did anyone try that combination? Just yesterday got v2018.05 in, and it just does not work. I don't get any serial from u-boot SPL, do I don't know what is happening. I compiled it with #define DEBUG, and still no serial output at all. At last I downloaded latest mainline u-boot (v2018.07-rc2) from github, applied manually the patches, complied and it worked. It seems something very specific for v2018.05 and rockchip/rk3288

Hi Guys, I have recently been contracted to a new project where I have moved out of my comfort zone (embedded 8-bit/32-bit uC) and have started my work on a H3 based device (currently NanoPi Neo) with Armbian. Over the course of my work I have managed to get up to speed with the basics; configuration, scripting, hardware and interfaces and device trees to a point where I can now work on the device as a proof of concept. The work that has been contributed so-far to the armbian project is impressive as is the active and knowledgeable forum - to which I hope I can contribute. One element which I cannot find an easy solution to is one of remo…

Hi, I'm using banana pi m1+ with armbian legacy kernel. I'm building an application with c sharp and using mono to run in in the banana pi. My application needs to change gpio output levels multiple times while running, so I installed bcm2835 library in the banana pi to control the output level from the application. Using the library, I was able to control those as I want, but I'd noticed that there are default gpio output levels, which are different from each gpio pins. I'm using CON3-P36 and CON3-P38. Right after the boot up, CON3-P38 goes high, while CON3-P36 goes low. I want to adjust the CON3-P38 to go low in the boot up, so that both two have low output as d…

Hi! I’ve been trying to build a kernel with custom settings for a couple of days now, but am facing some issues. My build setup is a virtual machine (running in VMWare Workstation Pro v15) based on the mini.iso image that's recommended in the Armbian documentation (and post here in the forums). The target is an Odroid N2+ SBC. There was no apparent issues setting up the build framework, installing git and cloning the repository. I then executed the compile.sh script and manually set the kernel configuration via the menuconfig interface that pops up. This however yielded an output image that, surprisingly enough, does not use my supplied configurati…

Any idea if OpenSSL 1.1.x can be safely downgraded to the latest OpenSSL 1.0.x release? On Black Hat 2017 security researcher Nitay Artenstein showed a vulnerability affecting millions of smartphones he called BroadPwn. The bug/vulnerability sits inside the firmware blobs but I didn't pay that much attention since I thought it would be related to recent smartphones and at least the one I use still receives full security fix support now in the 5th year. But when I heard that latest Raspbian release contains a fix for BroadPwn (RPi 3 and Zero W use BCM43438 to provide wireless capabilities) I asked myself immediately a question: http://www.cnx-software.com/2017/08/17/raspbian-for-raspberry-pi-boards-gets-upgraded-to-debian-stretch/#comment-545270 …

Hi, I managed to make w1-GPIO work in Orange Pi Zero v3 for, for example, the DS18B20 sensor. However, I have some doubts about setting the GPIO flags for w1-gpio. Many examples provide flags in the form gpios = <&pio 0 7 (GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH|GPIO_OPEN_DRAIN)>; but in the dts file when I use this form it does not work (syntax error) so I have to provide the flags in digital form. Is there any chance of getting cpufreq and dvfs to work?

For some time there is NAND driver for both SPL and u-boot for Allwinner SoCs. You can check boards/sunxi/README.nand. I'm currently testing this. What I'm thinking is, if this option works fine, should nand-sata-install script to be reworked? Instead of using the old SDK u-boot, mainline spl+u-boot to be packed in the bootloader deb and then written somehow? At this point as I can see only CHIP_pro has this feature enabled.

Hi all, I have a bananapi and I have installed the debian Wheezy image with kernel 3.19.0. Now, I’d like to upgrade to kernel 4.0.4 to see wether the ananlog audio output is supported; so I downloaded all the deb packages from the website and installed them, but after reboot the system is still using kernel 3.19.0. How can I switch it to use kernel 4.0.4? I guess I should edit something in boot.cmd and convert it to boot.scr, but what should I change exactly? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi all, please be aware that Pine folks in the meantime understood that recommendations to use WinDisk32Imager, dd and other non verifying burning tools are wrong, tried to recommend Etcher instead (as usual sabotaged by at least their most famous forum moderator) and now use finally a 'branded' Etcher 2.0 beta: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=4481&pid=27520#pid27520 I don't think it's correct to do it this way (and at least the macOS application sucks since not digitally signed and using a wrong so called 'bundle identifier') but anyway. Let's take this for a foresight. Etcher 2.0 uses catalog files in such a way: http:…

I am trying to get NanoPi Neo to work with a Murata 2AE module Over USB. The Murata module uses the Infineon CYW4373 chipset. So far I have: Rebuilt the kernel with CONFIG_BRCMFMAC_USB=y. Armbian provides its own hostapd. Why? This is relevant because of the recent WPA2 bug. Upstream hostapd has been patched: https://packages.debian.org/jessie/hostapd I don't understand the precise relation between Debian and Armbian. Will this patch percolate down? Thanks

Discussion thread for github issue 423 - glshim packaging. Related discussion is here. Glshim development happens here. Current status: build script is mostly working, I'm fixing minor issues before making a github commit: - avoid hardcoded dependencies - make sure OpenGL apps can be built on target system Once these are resolved, I'll post a link to my commit for an eventual review and will be ready to create a pull request. ---------- Unrelated topic: armbian build script fixes for Debian Jessie Although only Ubuntu distribution is supported by armbian build scripts, Debian sid and above have all the necessary packages and should work fine. Hi! I recently managed to boot Armbian on the QuartzPro64 board (RK3588) from Pine64. I also installed Proxmox, which worked out of the box. This is really amazing to me! To do this, I manually replaced the kernel and DTB file from the Armbian image for the OrangePi5 board, since it's based on the same CPU. Now, I would like to build the image for the QuartzPro64 using the Armbian build script. So far, I've already : added a new .conf file in config/boards (based on orangepi5-plus.conf) added a new .config file in config/kernel added a new entry in the list of branch in config/sources/families/rockchip-rk3588.conf. …

Hello, I would like to use armbian on a custom board with an arm processor. I' am a beginner and I don't know many things about o.s and board. My questions regards what issues will I have to face? Why I can't just install it like i do with desktop? Why I need to customize it? What things I need to customize? Is O.S customization an "easy" job or it will take months? What are the advantages of starting with armbian instead of starting from ubuntu (xenial)? What are the critical component of a board (what need customization)? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am having some trouble to compile the kernel after I have made some minor changes to one of the source files. to minimize recompilation of unchanged code files I chose the following settings in compile.sh: KERNEL_ONLY="yes" SOURCE_COMPILE="yes" KERNEL_CONFIGURE="no" KERNEL_CLEAN="no" to avoid having my changes overwitten by the original files I set FORCE_CHECKOUT="no" # igre manual changes to source I am afraid I have not managed to recompile the kernel using these settings. Hello all, I have something that you might find useful. I created an image for the Ubuntu 16.04 core for the firefly roc-rk3328-cc board. I followed the firefly docs to compile the firefly 4.4.114 kernel and build out the u-boot image. I followed this guide http://docs.khadas.com/social/BuildUbuntuRootfsViaUbuntuBase/ to get the ubuntu rootfs. I then created a disk image with the u-boot kernel, ubunutu rootfs, and the SoC. It actually worked. This is a very minimal install to the point where I have to modify the rootfs guide above to include the eth0 interface and probably install the network-manager. …

Dear Community, Currently Im playin with my Banana Pi M2 Berry and therefore I need a fusion of the LATEST Armbian -System with the compilers needed by the Boards Offical "GPIO-Libarys", which are outdated 7years ago. The most important libary would be the RPi.GPIO. RPi.GPIO The problem is, that this libary was using python2 and python3, python2 isnt my future i think, but for compiling the lib with python3 I need some pip-packages and the right arm-gcc compiler = 4.8 i think. DO i may need a cross-compile libary or whats are the requirements to build the lib on the latest system? To avoid hardware-d…

I just got a copy of the dev branch armbian comipled (2017-04-10). I'm here with the grand goal of getting libsurvive running with the HTC Vive on the Orange Pi. In order to do this, I need to coax the OrangePi to output to the vive. I was skeptical at first, but it appears you guys support 4k@30, so it should be okay on the pixel-clock front. The vive is 2160x1200@90Hz. You can't underclock it. Just won't go then. It's sadly the only mode the thing supports. I've seen shreds and bits here and there of information about how to do this, but, it seems that most of it is out-of-date for the "dev" branch. Any hints on how I can get the OrangePi to output as per …

A great 9.30 min review here, pointing out the issues: Cooling, GPIO expansion, no MIPI, lack of SPI support in Armbian? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MzxLYGWQddA Apparently the much discussed Armbian cooling/Vreg techniques were not known to the author. Other stuff is interesting, with comparison to RPi.

Hi, first of all thank you for the great work. Let me tell you my story. I bought a Pinebook laptop some months ago and in my spare time I was playing with numerous OS-es. Installing and testing one by one. In total I've tested every single OS and so far Armbian is the winner. Why? Well because it is super fast, very stable, lightweight and with very simple xfce desktop look and feel. Now, like everything in life, there are some bad sides of Armbian. I am not sure if I will say something false or strange but I don't consider my self expert for hardware nor Linux world. So far I have also Raspberry Pi with Raspbian installed and don't see any bad si…

For anyone who wants a minimal "network-install" like image for orangepizero. Does this with the customize-image.sh and armbian build scripts. Could be cleaner but would be much easier to just hack the build scripts. I've tested with jessie and stretch, and with branches default, next, and dev. The image should boot up, get eth0 dhcp address, and have serial console on ttyS0. Script option to remove systemd and use sysvinit. Might be modded to work with other boards? Set the following options and use the customize-image.sh. If script breaks due to upstream changes, use last tested commit: git checkout -f a66121 # required options f…

Hi there, I have this device left over from a previous project, and now I want to repurpose it for a forked version of PiKVM that is meant for alternate SBC such as the OrangePi. This may be a somewhat stupid question, but I just cannot find anything about it. I have custom-compiled the kernel for Allwinner A20/cubietruck as described here on a Virtual Box Ubuntu 18.04 Once done, I took the *.deb files out of output/debs, copied it to the machine and installed them. Everything worked fine and so far so good . But the "build" directory on the host with the compile.sh script is surprisingly empty. However, if I want to cross compile an additional kernel module on the virtual machine, how do I set this up? Is it enough to "make" with CROSS-COMPILE=arm-linux-gnueabihf-? or do I also need to somehow consider the linaro stuff in c…

Hi All, I have looked at the "How to build your own image/kernel post", but am wondering what the best way for me is to contribute. Basically, I often use the pine64 running armbian as an IoT control hub/gateway where it is running an install of nginx/php/mysql/mosquito/nodered. The php part is mostly because of phpmyadmin, so nginx comes in that case configured with node-red mounted on / and phpmyadmin on /phpmyadmin. I could create my own image with all this stuff on it, and also configure some default usernames, passwords and wifi setup, but I also noticed the "Software" section in armbian-config. So my question is which of these 3 options would b…

I have been playing around the Rock Pi S from radxa, and am stumbling at enabling the I2S output using a device tree overlay. (Building using current Armbain that uses @piter75's kernel branch) As per the data sheet and pinout, `i2s_8ch_0` should be broken out to the GPIO, but I don't seem to be getting far enabling it via the device tree. Any inputs? This is what I am playing around with atm, but `dmesg` doesn't show anything helpful atm, and no "I2S-Card" device turns up. Tried disabling the inbuilt audio codec ( connected to `i2s_8ch_2`), but still no dice. The closest example I could find was from `rk3308-ai-va-v10.dts`, that similarly enables the `i2s_8…

Just a minor problem: uptime from procps-nf 3.3.15 (Armbian buster) - as used in 30-armbian-sysinfo to get uptime/logged-in users/load - generates different outputs if the uptime is either less or more than 1 day or less than 1 hour ("hh:mm" or "d days, hh:mm" or "nn min") - this gets the 30-armbian-sysinfo confused on gathering the logged-in user count resp. load. I suggest the below fix: ... # get uptime, logged in users and load # fix for uptime from procps-ng 3.3.15: reports uptime less then a day as "hh:mm," # but uptime larger than a day as "nn days, hh:mm," or "nn days, mm min", and less than 1 hour as "mm min," # which mixes up the assig…

In recent armbian for orangepi-pc (Fossil 5.8.y) I encountered /dev/video0 and /dev/video1 I disabled both video and csi devices in dtb, but /dev/video0 and /dev/video1 did not disappear. Same happened with serial ports also. In dtb file 4 serial ports are described. Only one port is enabled, but /dev/ ttyS* contains 8 serial devices /proc/device-tree/soc/serial* directory contains exact number of serial ports as it is described in dtb. does anybody have an experience in disabling devices via device tree? Or the devices are hardcoded in the kernel?

Since update to 5.5.0 kernel (-rc2) my Orange PI often freezed after uptime of several hours up to 3 days (usually less than 24 hours). (Not an expert here). Patches apply smoothly on RPi3. Would be really nice to have this functional on Friendly ARM NanoPi Neo Air.

I already saw similar posts on this here, here and here. It looks like the combination of Kernel and Kernel-Header 5.89.190617 again is not complete to build own modules. Based on the configure script: Then I tried to check the headers: Since it was already a few times on the forum and sometime there was a new build created and it was fixed again, I would like to know if I just came over the same error again or if I did something wrong. cheers, Daniel

You may have read about the recent (one month ago, but hey, what's a month between friends?) security vulnerabilities discovered in dnsmasq. They have been patched in version 2.78 and, quoting the author: This is a bugfix release, and, amongst other things, addresses a set of serious security vulnerabilities. Update should be mandatory. The dnsmasq shipped with Armbian is a rather old 2.75 and it is enabled by default, so I see this as a rather significant risk. I have compiled the latest version and installed it by hand, following the instructions located here (obviously, with 2.78 instead of 2.76). Is there any chance of getting this package updated in …

Hi I think the subject I am interested in, called Kiosk OS or computer. I like to build a computer that when you turn it on, it does only execute one or some programs that I want. how can I do that? Is it a simple thing or should I spend weeks or months to learning and doing that? (I am a newbie linux user but know the C language). Very thank you in advanced!

We developed so called Cloud images, which are a combination of minimal images + kernel with minimal set of drivers. Images also doesn't have any firmware packages, so bare OS comes down to 700Mb. Build from sources: ./compile.sh \ BETA=no \ BOARD=uefi-x86 \ BRANCH=cloud \ BUILD_DESKTOP=no \ BUILD_MINIMAL=yes \ ENABLE_EXTENSIONS=image-output-qcow2 \ IMAGE_VERSION=25.2.3 \ RELEASE=noble \ VENDOR="Company" \ VENDORCOLOR="5;100;115" \ KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no \ KERNEL_BTF=yes Customization: https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Overview/ Details in promo style: Spoiler Very Fast Boot Time: Optimi…

I posted a git issue for the Banana Pi image that the mainline kernel wasn't working with OpenMediaVault (at the time I think it was 3.19.3 or .4). It is now working with mainline 3.19.7 so all is resolved. Will release an openmediavault image when I find the time

Sometimes I get in trouble building a new image. This could be caused by a variety of reasons, e.g an Armbian patch does not work with the latest kernel, a new u-boot version makes trouble or some functionality is broken in the image like the USB and v4.6.1. stuff here: http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/1338-a20-lamobo-r1-kernel-461-usb-issue/ How could I step back to working Armbian main build libraries and a working kernel and stay on both? Will this work? cd lib/ git checkout 2a2e190 # commit form June 1, 2a2e190: Move up to 5.14 since we need to ... cd .. touch .ignore_changes echo "KERNELBRANCH=\"v4.5.6\"" > userpatches/lib.config # add # KERNELT…

Hi to all Armbian Devs, According to my local experience done today with newly Ayufan's 4.20.0 tag done this morning, it seems to be quite ready ... (Except for my failure to get eMMC running on RockPro64, but works well on OPi-RK3399 and NanoPC-T4) So, I'm asking you if I should commit all those stuff !!! @TonyMac32 during those builds, I see 2 patches broken, I didn't investigated, but maybe those patches are simply not relevant anymore and can be deleted : [ warn ] * [l][c] renegade-add-uhs.patch [ failed ] [ warn ] * [l][c] rk3328-add-GRF-GPIO.patch [ failed ] One my side, I need to fix some patches to…

Hello. I have troubles with the new version from source. The main reason i compile it from source, instead of downloading pre-build images is to enable CMA in kernel config. And now i try to apply some patches like in this last post - Kodi/XBMC on Armbian with hw Accleration possible? . The version i try is CLI Armbian_5.07_Lamobo-r1_Debian_jessie_3.4.111. First there are some errors at the very beginning, then first boot is freezing at recreating SSH keys and after long time some messages for disconnecting and reconnecting USB devices appears and that's all, no reboot. I thought those patches are the problem and try without them, same condition. I have builded image from…
