As far as I can tell, there is currently no hook to allow patching the out of tree wifi drivers, since they're merged into the kernel source after patching. I was able to add the ability to patch these drivers with just a one line change: Spoiler diff --git a/lib/compilation.sh b/lib/compilation.sh index 7bb90902..ddaf24a8 100644 --- a/lib/compilation.sh +++ b/lib/compilation.sh @@ -293,6 +293,8 @@ compile_kernel() # build 3rd party drivers compilation_prepare + advanced_patch "wifi" "$KERNELPATCHDIR" "$BOARD" "" "$BRANCH" "$LINUXFAMILY-$BRANCH" + # create linux-source package - with already patched source…

Some of you probably saw that I added recently the OrangePi-Prime to the build process. Unfortunately, I'm still struggling to get the WiFi. It is even worst than the WiFi issue still present on OrangePiWin. For the OrangePi-Prime, even the DT doesn't process the WiFi entries, and the mmc1 is still "disabled" in /proc/device-tree at boot time. The strange thing is that if I load a small overlay to change the mmc1 status to "okay", the kernel start processing it. But, unfortunately, I'm seeing "sunxi-mmc 1c10000.mmc: no support for card's volts" error, although I didn't found obvious errors in vqmmc-supply setting of mmc1. I will have to dig f…

Hi, I managed to compile a working 4.6.2 Linux kernel for my Allwinner H3 powered Orange Pi PC using the Armbian lib build scripts. But where I'm completely stuck is when it comes to get all four CPU cores up and running. lscpu shows only cpu0 as online, and a syfs entry to enable cores 1..3 does not exist. Having applied 20151223-h3-mainline-smp-hack patch, cpu1..3 seem to get set online, but the booting process stalls (rcu_preempt self-detected stall on CPU, etc.). http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort#Status_Matrixmarked SMP as "done", and mentioned this patch. A log file of the failed boot process is attached. My setup: Lin…

Hello, First please excuse me for being not learned enough to do it without asking stupid questions. Here is my goal: Build Armbian (debian jessie) image with some packages included into it, include some web content and scripts into image, run my own script at firstboot to configure apache/mysql etc. So everything to start working out of the box after first boot. I read a little and saw userpatches/customize-image.sh is responsible for custom configuration, but got no idea how to proceed further. For example if I want to install mariadb what should I do? apt-get install mariadb (it says this file was executed in chroot environment) …

I have to launch two in series. first starts wpa_supplicant second starts dhclient success!. I tried adding them to the startup,(wishful thinking) so. each time i run them from the desktop, it launches terminal and asks for PW. because command has and requires sudo. does anybody know how i can get around this?, it would be amazing if i could have them auto run, next best would be without terminal asking for PW. no i don't know how to write scripts. My only reason for being here is to develop a Kubernetes platform that runs on Armbian, mesh networks, and particularly the type of devices Consumers will typically have... Is anyone else already doing this? And who else here is in the web dev space? or ops? Or has a website on something like Wordpress.com or Wix, and wants to self-host it? What is your favorite open source PaaS? also proprietary like Heroku? Any AWS or GCP or Azure user? Or a Data Scientist? just wanted to get a little survey, of if this has market demand.

Greetings, everyone I decided to try armbian for my recently acquired cubox-i4pro. Unfortunately it was missing some kernel modules that I require. No problem, it is easy enough to change the kernel configuration and recompile! Debian Jessie (main system) is even listed as a working development environment, so I thought I would test the included compile script using the instructions from the github. I had recently completed some cross-compilation (for armel, not armhf), so I manually updated the dependencies and read through instructions and looked through the script before getting started. First I compiled the kernel only with the following settings: KERNEL…

Hi, every one! have any of you guys tried to perform SPI loopback tests on any of existing boards ? I mean this driver code http://elixir.free-electrons.com/linux/v4.13.14/source/drivers/spi/spi-loopback-test.c. I tried to find any information on how to run tests but I completely failed to make it. It would be nice if someone shares a step-by-step instruction. Thanks a lot.

Hi! I’ve been trying to build a kernel with custom settings for a couple of days now, but am facing some issues. My build setup is a virtual machine (running in VMWare Workstation Pro v15) based on the mini.iso image that's recommended in the Armbian documentation (and post here in the forums). The target is an Odroid N2+ SBC. There was no apparent issues setting up the build framework, installing git and cloning the repository. I then executed the compile.sh script and manually set the kernel configuration via the menuconfig interface that pops up. This however yielded an output image that, surprisingly enough, does not use my supplied configurati…

Hi all, I have a bit of an odd application, but given the recent effort being put into UEFI boot, I thought I'd ask for some help. I have a Gigabyte R152-P30, which is an Ampere 80 core, single socket server. Flash drive boot works just fine, but nand-sata-install onto the server's NVMe SSD has been troublesome. I've tried several permutations of having partitions and not having partitions on the NVMe drive, but none seem to actually create a bootable result. I see on the generic armbian image page that it suggests creating an EFI partition which I do (nvme0n1p1). It then proceeds to leave that partition empty. I also have another btrfs…

I received at least one PM so far that I did not know the answer to. So, rather than all of us spend a lot of effort duplicating info, I thought maybe good idea to compile these in one place. Especially as we have an influx of new Board Maintainers at the moment. I also encourage people to stop by IRC and say hello. I shall also endeavor to copy the most useful bits from IRC into this thread as they come up. Maybe later can be distilled even further into some docs page or ...? Anyway... So, first up: Q: How /what checks/tests to run? A: OK, I guess I thought armbian/autotests was more about that (long in deve…

I was hoping that while moving to ASUS Tinker Board from a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ I would still be able to use my Google Voice Kit AIY (v1), but it looks like Armbian right now supports v2 only? I tried installing everything needed, but all I got were loads of error/not found messages. May I hope to be able to use the kit by some workarounds or do I have to stick with the Raspberry in the meantime? I am not really willing to spend extra money for some USB solution and I would like to fix it so that I can learn something new.

I found it very confusing that Armbian doesn't seem to follow the Ubuntu/Debian traditional scheme for naming kernel modules: linux-image-*, linux-modules-* and linux-headers-*. I need them to cross compile out-of-tree kernel module in `schroot`. Armbian seem to have only `linux-image-edge-rockchip64` and `linux-headers-edge-rockchip64`. What's the reasoning behind such design decision? Moreover, I've noticed kernel packages incorporate all the logic that make the board bootable, instead having more generic kernel binaries and relying on `flash-kernel` tool that both Ubuntu and Debian widely use. I wonder why not? What are chances in future `linux-im…

I created a Wheezy and Jessie image. Whenever I try extracting the Jessie image, I get a CRC error. I am using 7zip. I tried extracting the zip also using Windows Explorer (Win10) and it also runs into an error. It seems like there might be an issue with the Jessie images being created. I cleaned my output folder and created a new clean image and still run into the same problem. This is using the latest libs and creating a 4.2.3 image (the default settings in the lib config). FYI, the Wheezy image extracts without any problems. Any ideas why the Jessie image is corrupt? Thanks.

Hi, I'm using banana pi m1+ with armbian legacy kernel. I'm building an application with c sharp and using mono to run in in the banana pi. My application needs to change gpio output levels multiple times while running, so I installed bcm2835 library in the banana pi to control the output level from the application. Using the library, I was able to control those as I want, but I'd noticed that there are default gpio output levels, which are different from each gpio pins. I'm using CON3-P36 and CON3-P38. Right after the boot up, CON3-P38 goes high, while CON3-P36 goes low. I want to adjust the CON3-P38 to go low in the boot up, so that both two have low output as d…

Since kernel 4.18, on my rk3288 tv-box USB devices have always had problems when plugged in after the box boot (ie: USB device not working at all) I found that the problem is described and solved by this patch: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10535905/ Applying it to latest 4.18.4 kernel the functionality is restored, and I can't see similar patches in rockchip-dev. I think it should be applied to all rockchip SoCs at least until it gets merged into mainline

Hi, Based on this topic it should be possible to open PWM0 and PWM1 on a RockpiS, Yet I like to do the same thing on a Rockpi4A+ ( fdtfile=rockchip/rk3399-rock-pi-4a-plus.dtb ), in order to enable the fan on a PoE HAT Without any overlay it shows: root@rockpi-4a:/sys/class/pwm# ls /sys/class/pwm/ -la total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Mar 19 05:20 . drwxr-xr-x 71 root root 0 Mar 19 05:20 .. lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Mar 19 05:20 pwmchip0 -> ../../devices/platform/ff420020.pwm/pwm/pwmchip0 I tried some of radxa's suggestions using their " rockpi-poe.dtbo " overlay ( user_overlays=rockpi-poe ) and indeed that m…

Discussion thread for github issue 423 - glshim packaging. Related discussion is here. Glshim development happens here. Current status: build script is mostly working, I'm fixing minor issues before making a github commit: - avoid hardcoded dependencies - make sure OpenGL apps can be built on target system Once these are resolved, I'll post a link to my commit for an eventual review and will be ready to create a pull request. ---------- Unrelated topic: armbian build script fixes for Debian Jessie Although only Ubuntu distribution is supported by armbian build scripts, Debian sid and above have all the necessary packages and should work fine. FYI - seeing the following error on completion of a build... I suspect it's transient since it just seems to be verifying the image... "Re-reading the partition table failed.: Invalid argument" Image build seems to otherwise complete successfully. Haven't tested the image yet. This was building a BPi image for Jessie using the "next" (latest) kernel.

Hi, I have a OPi lite board and the U-boot model name shows Orange Pi One. Reason: It's patched as a "one" in u-boot-99-add-missing-boards.patch. I copied this file to the userpatches/u-boot/u-boot-dev directory and made some changes so it refered to the sun8i-h3-orangepi-lite.dts I created. (According to the user provided patches section) This didn't do the trick because it didn't override the original patch. No change and the patching log shows that the original patch is applied. So obviously I did something wrong but I have no idea what. What I would like to achive is that I can control the green led on my board. (Pin PL10, signal name PWR-LED, signal name LED1 an…

In recent armbian for orangepi-pc (Fossil 5.8.y) I encountered /dev/video0 and /dev/video1 I disabled both video and csi devices in dtb, but /dev/video0 and /dev/video1 did not disappear. Same happened with serial ports also. In dtb file 4 serial ports are described. Only one port is enabled, but /dev/ ttyS* contains 8 serial devices /proc/device-tree/soc/serial* directory contains exact number of serial ports as it is described in dtb. does anybody have an experience in disabling devices via device tree? Or the devices are hardcoded in the kernel?

I've been trying to build a nanopiduo2 firmware for the last couple of days, and I keep getting an error on the 048-humanity-icon-theme_0.6.15_all.deb. It says corrupted filesystem tarball. Hello, I recently learned to generate Armbian images using Docker, and I found the official documentation incomplete on this. I ended up asking in the forums, so I have compiled the info in this little blog post for other's reference https://ownyourbits.com/2017/11/30/building-armbian-images-faster-using-docker/ If there's any suggestions or improvements, please let me know. Also, if you want, I can send a PR to your documentation to clarify how to build using docker. Cheers, Nachoparker

Hello, I know that when a new LTS kernel gets released, that has very considerable impact and importance here at Armbian. Are you stoked about the upcoming 4.19 release? I know I am. No doubt many forum members have their favorite "pet" boards, and will be eager to see some currently-"experimental" features become "stable". Which of these features matter the most to you? Can you give examples of which use cases you'll be most eager to get a 4.19 kernel into? Myself, I'll be excited to see which already-Supported boards get a new Armbian Stretch or Bionic released with 4.19. This will help me get a sense which boards (and SBC makers) have the …

Hello Armbian community, I am working on adding support for a new RK3568 board to Armbian. Besides the board support, there are some hardware-specific kernel driver patches, for example: - RS485 driver modifications - TP2815 related driver changes - GT9xx touchscreen driver changes - Other hardware-specific drivers These drivers are only required for this hardware platform. What is the recommended way to maintain these driver patches in Armbian? Should they be submitted together with the board support? Or should they be maintained separately and applied through: userpatches/kern…

Hello, is there a parameter one can pass to ./compile.sh in order to limit which toolchains are being downloaded? I just checked and cache/toolchains is taking up 14 GB on my VM and given that I only ever build odroidxu4 kernels this is quite an overkill. I could of course delete the cache manually but this would mean that the toolchains need to be re-downloaded for the next rebuild. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I am an old-timer in Debian and Ubuntu and have uploaded and maintained packages there. I've come across an issue in a package that I use that affects 32-bit platforms such as armv7 but not 64-bit platforms. I've already analysed the problem and applied a fix, compiled the package locally and I'm happy. But I'd like to get the fix into armbian as well so others will not run into this fairly serious problem (for the package in question, it is essentially useless at the moment in noble). I looked through the various github repositories but was unable to see how to apply a patch to a userland package and have it published. Given that armbian s…

Sorry for this novice question, I am sure I am missing this in the documentation somewhere... When creating Armbian images using the included build system, I notice that the kernel is downloaded each time I run a build. This of course takes a decent amount of time to pull via git. Is there a way to simply point the build system to a local cached folder that already contains kernel sources already downloaded? That would speed up my iterations significantly. Thanks!

I put some fresh armbian buster image to my cubieboard (1). Although no (real) application was installed, a load of around 20-30% could be seen. But after removing my display and booting the system still there was some kworker load almost stopping the system every 5-10 seconds. Digging deeper I found a description and a possible solution of the problem. Looking a my Olimex A20 Lime2 which I am currently testing with the new olimage by Olimex because of the never solved gigabit problems of my board, the same behaviour could be seen. Hello. For the past month, I have been working on fixing, updating, and rewriting the hardware crypto patch for RK3588. I've done so much work on it that I'm considering submitting it for review to be added to mainline kernel. I needed hardware cryptographic acceleration for a small project running on my Kubernetes ARM cluster. I noticed that Armbian is still using rk35xx-montjoie-crypto-v2-rk35xx.patch, so I decided to give it a try, but unfortunately the results were quite buggy. I took a closer look at rk35xx-montjoie-crypto-v2-rk35xx.patch and discovered a fairly large number of bugs and potential improvements. I then spent the past month rewriting and updating th…

Hi, I managed to make w1-GPIO work in Orange Pi Zero v3 for, for example, the DS18B20 sensor. However, I have some doubts about setting the GPIO flags for w1-gpio. Hi all, first post here. I have an orange pi zero and I want to develop some C++ apps on it. My app is going to be a bit big, and at the moment compiling it on the ZERO takes FOREVER (I guess its just the RAM, not CPU)! Compiling it on my intel i9 PC is just a matter of seconds. But I have some concerns, would be nice if you walk me though: 1) I am running Armbian 20.04 on the ZERO which I believe is compiled with GCC 9.3.0. I could not find a Linaro pack…
