Currently on the latest version of armbian I am experiencing high background internet data usage. I am limited to a 50MB plan which works fine with other devices, but seems to not be enough for more than 10 days on this distro. I have tried disabling all periodic checks for updates, but I am still seeing high data usage. Any ideas on where these might be coming from? I can provide a wireshark PCAP if needed.

Hi Wondering if anyone knew the algorithm that assigns mac addresses to orange zero. Is it based on something static/cpu id /...? or it is purely random. Will this mac change over time or after it is generated, it will stay the same? I have one zero that mac is pretty static and another changed mac after I did a upgrade. If I want better control of the mac address, what's the best way to make it static? this is on the mainline -jerry

Hi, I've built my own Ubuntu Armbian image for the NanoPi Duo so I could use Ubuntu Snaps without classic confinement (The pre-built images don't seem to have SquashFS Compiled in the kernel). The image seems to be working perfect. However I've noticed one thing which I'm not sure if it's the image or a generic armbian issue but I've noticed that every time I reboot it the mac address updates. I'm using it for a server so having it generate a new IP each time I need to reboot it for development is a bit of an issue. Is there a recommended way to set a static one or such?

Looks like A10/A20 audio codec support got merged to linux-next tree. Igor, can you please add these patches? I'll try to find all related bits. There are too many commits to link them one by one. Here is merge commit, it's easier to remove not needed bcm2835 and sun6i stuff from it. https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git/commit?id=2030deefd5bfb68317732d8f64c69c7cb5169e9d

Those past days, I was working on getting DT ConfigFS Overlays into sun8i-dev. Today, I've suddenly saw that the version from that we are using from https://github.com/megous/linux(branch orange-pi-4.6) change from 4.6.2 to 4.6.4. I didn't care much until I figured out that we loose all the UART1/2/3/4 (only keeping the debug UART0) as well as all I2C (except the one on r_pio for PMIC). So, "megous" github is back to almost what linux-sunxi github is providing, without all the patches for UART/I2C that I had prepared 3 months ago. I get I will have to re-integrate them on our side until there merge into real linxx-sunxi branch.

A touch of bravery got me to install mainline on my Nanopi Neo using the orangepi one dtb. It worked OK. Today I updated the system and got a nice new kernel 4.9.4 but also had bit of bother in the form of the absence of network devices. It seems there is an issue with the new sun8i-h3-nanopineo.dtb as reverting back to the orangepi one restores that capability. It's all a bit mysterious to me but I do notice that the alias "ethernet0" is absent from the nanopi dts and the configuration of ethernet further down seems quite different. I'd be quite interested in trying a new version of the dtb if someone's ahead of me with this.

  9. Hello, In december, it was possible to install 4.19 kernel for Rock64. Unfortunately this kernel was removed from Armbian repo. 4.20 kernel is bogus, USB doesn't work and SD card is very slow. 4.19 was fine. Is it possible to make it available again in in the repo ? Thank you

  10. Does anyone know if it's possible to use the docker-shell to patch linux and compile, but NOT make the .img file? Maybe something like ./compile.sh unpack-linux ./compile.sh apply-patches ALL=THE_SETTINGS ./compile.sh build-kernel but not make .img I'm trying to change some network driver settings and want to just copy the new kernel module to my target board instead of flashing the entire SD card.

  11. Certainly not a new item but havn't found an Armbian how-to. Hardware: Rockchip rk3588 based hardware with both SDcard slot and eMMC memory. Wish: make a SD card image that, when inserted in the SDcard slot, causes a bootable Armbian OS image to be written to eMMC from that SDcard, followed by boot from eMMC. The bootable image should remain in its most compact form, to limit copy time, and only upon first boot from eMMC be made to use the entire eMMC. Has this been explored already? Ideas on how-to?

Ever since I read through THIS POST a while back, I started digging through the cpufrequtils init script, and was a more or less disappointed with what I found. It's largely a product of the CPUs that were available around that time (eg - Pentium 3). Namely that all cores in the system are the same, and there's should be only one master policy that controls everything. Of course ARM big.LITTLE totally breaks these assumptions, and leaves the script with no viable way to specify different schedulers or frequency ranges for each CPU cluster. It still runs, but not really correctly. For example, you can't set the RK3399 little cores above 1.4 GHz, but that's basi…

I went a step further, trying to use the userpatches/customize-image.sh script. Correct if i am wrong. It's possible to make a generic building process to add new drivers like the media_build does? What would users have a single point of entry into the build system (the main armbian GIT/build), I propose to add into the main master branch additional variable that will be used in the script "compile.sh" to specify what branch to use when building. This will allow to quickly combine the main branch to build images Armbian with my fork for assembling the images for TV boxes and boards based on the Amlogic platform. Under the add , my changes do not conflict with the existing system in the main branch and at the same time, users will be able to collect their own versions based on the amlogic branch of a single GIT…

  26. Hello, once I developed my appliance based on Armbian with Kernel 3.4. And the goal of the appliance was to work as custom USB gadget. The appliance was based on sunxi_usb_udc. Now, after big delay I returned to the need of bulding a new appliance with similar functionality. As far as I understand, there is a problem with UDC module in kernel 5.x. Am I right? For some time there is NAND driver for both SPL and u-boot for Allwinner SoCs. You can check boards/sunxi/README.nand. I'm currently testing this. What I'm thinking is, if this option works fine, should nand-sata-install script to be reworked? Instead of using the old SDK u-boot, mainline spl+u-boot to be packed in the bootloader deb and then written somehow? At this point as I can see only CHIP_pro has this feature enabled.

  43. Since volatile journald logging is done in-memory in /run/log/journal, and made persistent in /var/log.hdd/journal, the rsync of /var/log/journal in nand-sata-install no longer works because it is a symlink to /var/log.hdd/journal in the live system, and will create a circular symlink when booting from NAND. On the target image /var/log is the folder that is directory-mounted to /var/log.hdd during boot. I propose to exclude /var/log from the rsync, and rsync /var/log.hdd to /var/log on the target image. Another solution could be to exclude only /var/log/journal from the rsync, and create an empty /var/log/journal in the target image. Kind reg…

I am unable to write AC registors(physical address: 1c22c00) but i can read them using readl. writel is not showing any effect on register. I enabled audio_pll, codec clock, bus codec gate registers and reset deasserted. I have cross-checked H3 datasheet for clock tree. Happy new year everyone, I am working on a project where I want to control two brushed DC motors equipped with a magnetic encoder and driven by a H-bridge circuit. All this has to be done on a tiny arm board (with enough cpu power for other computations), and I decided to go for the NanoPi NEO Air. I compiled the actual mainline Kernel with realtime capability (turned PREEEMTIVE on in menuconfig, hope that's enough) and debian streched. One issue might be the tight and constraining timing when sampling the magnetic encoder, which generates two 1.6kHz (about 0.6ms) pulses for each motor. I guess it would be best to get an interrupt generated at each…

Hello, We've enabled pps-gpio in armbianEnv and will hopefully soon have our GPS/PPS source sync'ing the Neo2. We are also trying to have the Neo2 as a PPS generator when there is no local GPS/PPS connected and it's sync'd on the LAN from another Neo2 that has the GPS/PPS. To make all this work we'd like to be able to activate a PPS generator (output), along the lines of: https://github.com/jsln/pps-gen-gpio Think we understand the device-tree process well enough, but how (and where) would we put the driver code and have it compiled in and usable? Is this something that can be done on top of the nightly build we're using, or would we have to do this in t…

Ubuntu Server edition doesn't use the fundamentally limited Network Manager for a reason. For any kind of semi-complex networking configuration, (say VLANs, bridges, per-network firewall rules, any kind of policy based routing and so on and so on). Also, conversely on little, largely headless servers with static network configurations, Network Manager is a big, bloaty and intrusive process that adds boot time and complications. Just recently I have struggled hugely with difficult to replicate networking issues. I thought (and Network Manager reported) that NM didn't touch the interfaces specified in e/n/i. Turns out not to be the case. Is there an…

I find quite strange that CONFIG_DM_MIRROR is not set in the kernel. It makes impossible under lvm to have logical volume mirror, and I just experienced an impossibility to make a pvmove to change one drive for another one. All my filesystems are built upon lvm, the only possibility would be to rebuild a kernel. But I find it quite heavy, since I have to platforms bananapi and espressobin; and it needs to be done for each release. But why no have built dm-mirror as module with the usual CONFIG_DM_MIRROR=m ?

Hello, I need to use gprs modem with ppp over uart0, but something blocks the communication. The uart0 runs well over minicom, but not over ppp. When I use another uart, the ppp runs well. But I have to use uart0. The uart0 is set like debug port in u-boot and I think, that this is the reason. I don't know how to disable it. Maybe disable CONFIG_REQUIRE_SERIAL_CONSOLE in u-boot config file ? Thank you Tomas

  94. Hello, Just returning after a little while, I cannot get ethernet working on my opi+2e with mainline kernel, direct cable connection to PC, no serial console at hand, neither HDMI output, so I had the habit of blindly booting then sshing into the box... I tried my personal config + megous repo, xenial or jessie, current armbian repo nothing coming out of eth on the PC (tcpdump -i eth0). LEDs, green solid on, red heartbeating, orange eth led blinking slowly. I then reverted back to montjoie's repo (default for dev BRANCH), for identical results. Could this be the updated u-boot (I think I saw a new version being used) ? Or is this expected to be…

Hi! I have a problem with my Orange Pi Lite 2 I tried to connect my device to my home WiFi. But the device does not see the wifi, at a distance of 10 centimeters. I try to launch commands: nmtui-connect *name to my WIFI* nmtui-connect for show all WiFi Network. But in neither case does the device manage to identify the network. I tried using: vim /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf I tried to edit the file and to insert the data of my network but nothing. Can anyone give me a hand to solve this problem? Thanks everyone in advance!

Hi, I have a OPi lite board and the U-boot model name shows Orange Pi One. Reason: It's patched as a "one" in u-boot-99-add-missing-boards.patch. I copied this file to the userpatches/u-boot/u-boot-dev directory and made some changes so it refered to the sun8i-h3-orangepi-lite.dts I created. (According to the user provided patches section) This didn't do the trick because it didn't override the original patch. No change and the patching log shows that the original patch is applied. So obviously I did something wrong but I have no idea what. What I would like to achive is that I can control the green led on my board. (Pin PL10, signal name PWR-LED, signal name LED1 an…

  98. Started by Blade Doyle,

I had great success with building a mainline kernel / distribution image for my banana pi pros and my orange pi pluses. Now I have a rack of Orange Pi PC because they are only $15 each!!! Sadly, I can't find "Orange Pi PC" in the list of supported boards in the build script. The only one listed with H3 chip is the orange pi plus, and that image does not run on an orange pi pc. So my question is.... What would it take to get the opiPC support? If its not a huge job, and you are willing to give a few pointers to get me headed in the right direction, I'll take a look and see if I can add it. Thanks, Blade.

  100. Good morning, I hope you all are fine. I am working on orange pi pc plus with mainline kernel 4.4, I tried to use the on board button but it didn't work in spite of its existence in the device tree (after dumping the already running dtb) and I found that: pinctrl@01f02c00 { compatible = "allwinner,sun8i-h3-r-pinctrl"; reg = <0x1f02c00 0x400>; interrupts = <0x0 0x2d 0x4>; clocks = <0x2d 0x3 0x1c 0x1d>; clock-names = "apb", "hosc", "losc"; gpio-controller; #gpio-cells = <…
