Hello, We've enabled pps-gpio in armbianEnv and will hopefully soon have our GPS/PPS source sync'ing the Neo2. We are also trying to have the Neo2 as a PPS generator when there is no local GPS/PPS connected and it's sync'd on the LAN from another Neo2 that has the GPS/PPS. To make all this work we'd like to be able to activate a PPS generator (output), along the lines of: https://github.com/jsln/pps-gen-gpio Think we understand the device-tree process well enough, but how (and where) would we put the driver code and have it compiled in and usable? Is this something that can be done on top of the nightly build we're using, or would we have to do this in t…

Stumbled across this while working on something else not ARM related, but it's pretty cool - since Armbian is looking at devices that have eMMC, this might be useful https://github.com/pepe2k/u-boot_mod Short story - it's a uBoot with a micro web server that supports flashing images, including uBoot itself - basically it turns things into a bit of a fail-safe as long as uBoot can execute... (those playing with the fire that is uBoot, keep your UART connections handy) Do I have some security concerns - absolutely yes... but no different than the UEFI that is on many x86 boards these days.

How to I generate `.img` files? When I run `.compile` I end up with `.deb` files. I've been looking through the scripts but there are so many of them and I want to get to how to do this without having to use commands like: find . -name '*.sh' -print0 | xargs -0 grep compile_uboot | less for a long time. I recently installed Armbian Jammy on my Hardkernel Odroid-HC1. By monitoring the storage usage through SNMP, I quickly realised that something was filling up the /var/log mountpoint at an alarming rate (40 % usage after three weeks). At a closer inspection, it turned out to be the sysstat logs. Even though sysstat was set (out of the box) to only keep 7 days of history, I could see files that were several weeks old. Having looked into the way that logs are synced to disc (or to the SD card rather), then rotated and synced back every night, it seems that the armbian-ramlog script is rather broken. It will move all of the sysstat logs, then expect the logrotati…

Hello, I know that when a new LTS kernel gets released, that has very considerable impact and importance here at Armbian. Are you stoked about the upcoming 4.19 release? I know I am. No doubt many forum members have their favorite "pet" boards, and will be eager to see some currently-"experimental" features become "stable". Which of these features matter the most to you? Can you give examples of which use cases you'll be most eager to get a 4.19 kernel into? Myself, I'll be excited to see which already-Supported boards get a new Armbian Stretch or Bionic released with 4.19. This will help me get a sense which boards (and SBC makers) have the …

Hi guys, New over here. I have been building custom images without issues for some time for Nano Pi M4. From last week it seems it is not longer building them. In case my build env was corrupted, image build process was tested on a clean VM build env with Ubuntu 18.04, without any customization, following instructions in https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/). I am just trying to buildi kernel image at the moment. In any case, I am seeing some of the rockchip kernel patches are not being applied for some reason, and a compiler error is produced when building the kernel (specifically: looback block dev module). Anybody else is …

The problem: I want to run my Banana Pi M2 Zero from a battery / powerbank setup. It works like a charm from a beefy powerbank capable of consistent 2A output [1], even with added 5" LCD screen to power at the same time and wireless keyboard transmitter. BUT it does hang up hard, I guess due to undervoltage, when powered from a smaller, weaker powerbank with a single 18650 cell and max output of about 500mA (theoretically 1A but let's underestimate, I'll try to measure it with an oscilloscope). Armbian with 4.19 kernel and Ubuntu 18.04 (but booting in text mode, without any GUI). The hangup occurs during services startup, usually around networ…

I am trying to build an image for both the Orange Pi PC and One I am on a slow cellular network and pay by the gigabyte for access. Is there a way to cache the packages for: Installing base system [ Stage 1/2 ] , and all the rest? Each time I try a compile.sh it take hours to re-download the whole set of packages, because the there is almost always at least a few packages that could not be fetched due to network errors, then they are unpacked and a corrupt tar image is saved and the packages are removed. If I save the create_rootfs_cache file with the missing packages, it does not try to reload them, it just errors out cause they are missing. I am building i…

Hi Team, With very straight forward documentation for building the image for Orange PI one board (All Winner H3), I was able build image. The experiment I am trying to do here is to run a simple service on boot (It may do nothing as of now, but should be listed as running when status is checked). Now since, the experiment is simple, I am trying to get some inputs on removing/excluding kernel modules that are not required and also build the image in release mode (not debug mode). Highly appreciate teams help in getting the inputs. Looking forward for the response. Thanks, Kedar

Hi All, this is my 1st post here. If I'm mistaken where or what placing here, please pardon me and direct me to the right place. Please illuminate my ignorance, concerning the subject. I think it is implementation dependent, how usleep(3) is treated, when found in an interrupt service call back routine. Is it just ignored?, or are ISRs executed as threads and usleep(3) works?? Moreover, the ISR is called from a Real_Timer int (sigalrm). Thank's and best regards hk

It's been decades since I did application development but I want to get started again. I see that Ubuntu IDE SDK is included in the 'software boutique' but when I install it there are numerous errors when trying to configure. Do you guys have a preferred IDE for application dev on Armbian and do you have any tutorial how to build it? The Ubuntu IDE SDK looks good but so do several other IDEs that include GUI designers such as QDevelop. Before I go down a long path I'd rather try what you kids are already successfully using. I know, most guys use Vi(m) and command line, but I want to give the IDE style of development a go. This is a ver…

Hi, I wanted to know if there was an easy way to customize an existing released image or rebuild a released image. I know you can use the customize image option when building, but I would like to not build the latest nightly, but instead just build whatever was released. The customization I am looking to do is installing additional packages, downloading some personal python code, setting timezone and other similar settings. I searched the forums, but didn't see anything helpful, any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I received at least one PM so far that I did not know the answer to. So, rather than all of us spend a lot of effort duplicating info, I thought maybe good idea to compile these in one place. Especially as we have an influx of new Board Maintainers at the moment. I also encourage people to stop by IRC and say hello. I shall also endeavor to copy the most useful bits from IRC into this thread as they come up. Maybe later can be distilled even further into some docs page or ...? Anyway... So, first up: Q: How /what checks/tests to run? A: OK, I guess I thought armbian/autotests was more about that (long in deve…

The Rock-s0 has the same rk3308b processor and the build uses a BL31binary, with u-boot. The SV06Ace has the same cpu and BL31/u-boot. I reviewed this thread and was trying to follow the example commit provided. It is a little difficult to work through a commit as not all of the paths to the files are present in my depth=1 git clone. Is it possible to download the commit for the Rock-s0 and use it to patch the build directory? If I could run the patch, then I would have some actual files to copy and edit. The maintainer of the Rock-s0, linked on the Armbian Info page for the s0 has not made any recent commits. The last Rock-s0 commit was where it was …

I've been trying to build a nanopiduo2 firmware for the last couple of days, and I keep getting an error on the 048-humanity-icon-theme_0.6.15_all.deb. It says corrupted filesystem tarball. Lets say I wish to creat three kernels with different timer settings like 100Hz/250Hz/1000Hz. The name of the generated SDcatd image is always the same which is not helpful. When I want to use them later as well for a multiboot scenario, so swtchable kernels, I need as well different names, so it is not only to rename the image files. USing Menuconfig, I could normally put a localization extension to it...when I do this, the image creation process fails as the system looking into wrong folder names. So, is there an alrernative path ? Or is this a bug ?

Since volatile journald logging is done in-memory in /run/log/journal, and made persistent in /var/log.hdd/journal, the rsync of /var/log/journal in nand-sata-install no longer works because it is a symlink to /var/log.hdd/journal in the live system, and will create a circular symlink when booting from NAND. On the target image /var/log is the folder that is directory-mounted to /var/log.hdd during boot. I propose to exclude /var/log from the rsync, and rsync /var/log.hdd to /var/log on the target image. Another solution could be to exclude only /var/log/journal from the rsync, and create an empty /var/log/journal in the target image. Kind reg…

Currently all of the Armbian kernel defconfigs include the actual build configuration statically as part of the kernel. The standard Armbian build process also includes a copy of the .config file in /boot/config-<version>-<platform>. Are both required, or should the kernel configurations be updated to make Kernel .config support an LKM instead of static bind? True this is a minor item. The actual kernel configuration takes up a very small amount of memory, though on many SBCs with limited memory to start with every byte not used by the kernel can help. This would amount to changing from: CONFIG_IKCONFIG=y to: CO…

Hello, I am trying to create custom USB gadget using GadgetFS on OrangePi PC. I found some example of USB user-mode driver based on GadgetFS and was able to adapt it for sunxi H3 platform. If I only change the VID and PID in this example, the device is still detected correctly in Windows (my part gets initial requests), but no data buffer is received after the detection. I see the data is sent from my PC module (using WireShark). I think the data is either locked or handled in unexpected way by sunxi_usb_udc module. How can I get detailed debug messages (using dmesg) of the sunxi module? I hope this will let me re-design my solution.

I know it is in development. and only for testing. I have build armbian 5.51 ubuntu 18.04, kernel 4.14 . I have question. max cpu H3 speed is set up on 1100 mhz. All orange pi boards with the same cpu have 1296 mhz. I set up cpu governor on performance all the time 1100mhz. I achieved temperatures on cpu between 53-62 celsius degrees. Could be the max cpu speed bring up to the 1296 MHZ? I have radiator 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm on board tritium H3. And it is not very hot. thanks for reply.

Hello, is there a parameter one can pass to ./compile.sh in order to limit which toolchains are being downloaded? I just checked and cache/toolchains is taking up 14 GB on my VM and given that I only ever build odroidxu4 kernels this is quite an overkill. I could of course delete the cache manually but this would mean that the toolchains need to be re-downloaded for the next rebuild. Thanks!

Hello, guys, I am building mainline "next" for BananaPi M2 with my custom Waveshare 35a dt overlay (source attached) created from the one for RaspberryPi3. The display shows a broken picture. Hello. I'm just wondering if anyone here has successfully built the latest Linux Kernel 5.2 rc for any of the RK3288 based sbc's. I'm using the Tinkerboard S specifically and have read about several improvements that have been included in this kernel and including panfrost support which seems rather exciting.

Apologies if this is a FAQ. I'm trying to diagnose OV5640 camera issues on my NanoPiM1 using the headless xenial distro with the legacy kernel. Is there an accessible version of the compile.sh that built this distro? I'd really prefer to be able to rebuild all on a proper desktop machine ... Hi Is there a way to set url for kernel sources for build process of armbian? I want to try this kernel: https://github.com/openedev/linux which has - potentially - fix for my problem described here: and here: https://forum.banana-pi.org/t/lcd-module-dsi-rgb-with-touch-and-s070swv20hg-dc16-lcd-panel-mainline-kernel/11172 But i have no idea how to change default url for kernel sources. Ps. I'm using docker to build and have question: where armbian stores its kernel sources(locally) and how to obtain its urls?

Currently on the latest version of armbian I am experiencing high background internet data usage. I am limited to a 50MB plan which works fine with other devices, but seems to not be enough for more than 10 days on this distro. I have tried disabling all periodic checks for updates, but I am still seeing high data usage. Any ideas on where these might be coming from? I can provide a wireshark PCAP if needed.

I was using usb otg(microusb) as host mode in kernel 3.x. I was using this port to connect banana pi to touch&PWR in LCD. With kernel 3.x, there was no problem, but in the kernel 4.x the touch did not work. I was searching about the structure of usb port, and found out that to use micro usb as a host mode, the forth pin(sense) and the fifth pin(GND) should be connected. I checked this had been causing a touch problem by trying soldering the forth and the fifth pin of the usb otg port in banana pi, and the touch worked. Isn't there any way I can handle this situation in software-wise, not by soldering? I had also considered buying a microusb wire which has …

The versioning within Armbian seems to be inconsistent. On a up to date RPi4 The login message states that it is running Armbian 23.11.1: Welcome to Armbian 23.11.1 Jammy with Linux 6.6.18-current-bcm2711 /etc/os-release is listing both 22.04 and 24.2.1: PRETTY_NAME="Armbian 24.2.1 jammy" VERSION_ID="22.04" VERSION="22.04.4 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)" ARMBIAN_PRETTY_NAME="Armbian 24.2.1 jammy" /etc/armbian-release says it is 23.11.1: VERSION=23.11.1 REVISION=23.11.1 So these are three different versions, making it confusing. When building a kernel the device driver configuration asks which rtc should a system use for NTP and startup synchronisation . By default this is rtc0. The question is: In case there are more hardware RTCs in one embedded system ( in my case onboard RK808 and Dallas DS1307 over I2C), which one would be numbered as rtc0? Threre are several RTC device drivers available and checked by default, some marked as M and other as '*' , supposing 'module' or 'driver' respectively. Now if I have two hardware RTCs, I presume they should load as rtc0 and rtc1, but which part does numbering? I can't know this 'a priori' , I would like to use DS1307 for synchronisation…

Hi, I'm working with an armbian installed on a Banana Pi M2S and I'm having problems using GPIOX_12, GPIOX_13 and GPIOX_4, because the Wifi/Bluetooth drivers are introducing garbage data by default into them and making it difficult to use them for communication in my project. Question: Is there any way to disable them in the kernel during the image building process? Fo…

I know there was a recent commit that probably is causing this, something about removing the old way of handling boot logos. So my question is, what needs to change to convert to the new way?
