I guess everyone knows that downloading distros in general takes a lot of bandwidth, same with armbian even thought the armbian distro i only a couple of hundreds of MB. so beside offering direct download why not start using p2p downloads like ubuntu and other distros do already in order to save bandwidth. We can use the openbittorrent.com public tracker - i already have a cubietruck which is powered 24/7 for my p2p needs so i would mind sharing some armbian distros via p2p. What do you guys think ?

Just wanted to point out that a new aluminum case is available for the Odroid-C2 that not only looks cool, but keeps your Odroid from throttling due to heat. Fourdee over at DietPi did a really nice review of the case - http://dietpi.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=730 What do you guys think?

So, finally today I am getting around to pulling trigger on (2x) ODROID-XU4, I go to AmeriDroid (US supplier), put 2 of them in cart and go off looking for emmc modules, only to come across: https://ameridroid.com/collections/storage-emmc-and-microsd/products/emmc-5-1-module-blank Has anyone seen / tested these? My internet search says no, but I thought I would ask anyway. If not, I guess it's my turn now to be the guinea pig. I think I will maybe get one of these and one "regular" emmc...

Hi, New to the forum and armbian but I have several different arm boards. This may have been hashed (rehashed) before but I have a couple of amlogic s912 boards; is there not an official download for them? I saw references to a few one-offs from different people. What is the general opinion of these boards and this chip? Thank you. Best, Chris

To monitor and restart boards, we could use the FOSS Android app RasPi Check. However, Armbian needs to reply to all requests from the app (with a valid or dummy value). I looked into it a while back. Perhaps there are more people interested in it from the Armbian community. Let me know if you want to work on this too.

Recently I've bought small box which is kind if "wireless interface" for wired AA: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006001314624.html It works quite nicely with my Ford S-Max but I'm very curious man and got it open (aka teardown). Chips cannot be identified, they lack any marks. But there is DEBUG UART First I connected it into my PC. Removable disk appeared with a few files that keeps my phone's BT address and such information. Nothing really interesting. Then I powered up device when holding the button, it didn't start but went into some "flashing mode" I think - it was identified as USB\VID_1F3A&PID_EFE8 which means sunxi SoC OTG connector in FE…

I just released some new code on github to play animated GIF files directly on a Linux framebuffer or SPI LCD (using my SPI_LCD code). It doesn't have any 3rd party dependencies and can easily be made to run on systems with no operating system or file system. This is part of my imaging library that I've been working on for more than 20 years. I'm slowly releasing parts of it as open-source. This code was sliced out of a much larger project which supports a whole bunch of image formats. https://github.com/bitbank2/gif_play Comments/feedback welcome.

Hi all. As regular I was looking for news about a new Odroid. Finally the news arrived. The N2 will have the Amlogic S922X with 4xA73(@1.8Ghz) + 2xA53(@1.9Ghz), a Mali-G52 GPU and 4GB DDR4 RAM. Looks very promising. It should quite a bit faster than the RK3399's. It does have a giant heatsink, so this thing will get very hot I suppose. https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=176&t=33781&p=245930&hilit=n2#p245930 Please let me know what you all think of this. I find it very interesting. Greetings, NicoD

Another flavour of Arm Linux. FatdogArm is a port of Fatdog64 to the ARM platform. Currently in Beta release, it is based on Fatdog64 and thus shares much of Fatdog64 features. Like Fatdog64, FatdogArm is intended for desktop-style operations but on the lower-cost ARM-based systems. FatdogArm currently was originally built on A10/Mele A1000 hardware, although it can be easilyadapted for other platforms. These days, FatdogArm is known to run is A20/Cubieboard, Odroid-U2, Odroid-U3, OLPC XO-1.75, OLPC XO-4 Touch, Pandora, Cubox-i i2, Cubox-i i4pro, and Google Nexus7 2012. The porting process of FatdogArm (for Alpha version) is described in details here. FatdogArm fea…

The company behind the Geekbox (my only SBC I still never booted ) in the meantime more known for their Amlogic Vim/Vim2 boards also joins the RK3399 bandwagon with a concept similar to Geekbox. A core module to be combined with a carrier board: Since it's just another RK3399 design Armbian support later is likely. Hi, I am about to buy my first orange pi (PC 2, PC or PC Plus) and I have no idea what case to buy. I plan to use it as VPN server connecting remotely from time to time for three hours to stream video. Are the ones from Xunlong ok? Does it need a fan at all? Are heatsinks a must? Any experiences with Geekworm acrylic ones? I am thinking something like this with a fan: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Orange-Pi-PC-PC2-PC-Plus-Acrylic-Case-5V-3A-EU-Power-Adapter-Cooling-Fan-Heat/32818782336.html Since I am here.. I would also ask about the power supply. Are Xunlong ones ok or better go with Geekworm and buy the bundle? Al…

Hello, I spent many hours looking for any working solution how to access my Armbian desktop behind NAT and router with not static IP address over Internet. But I failed at all. In the course of my research I tried VNC Connect by RealVNC, TeamViever, AnyDesk and Google Chrome Remote Desktop. And found neither one working on Armbian. The first tree in the list got installed, but not worked. Maybe because all these were built for Rapsbian, not Armbian. The last one did not get installed at all. No idea why. May be because I had to install it into the Chromium browser, not the Chrome as Chrome is not available for armhf. May be it is not ready for armhf yet. …

Hi, Curious if there's something like Intel ME that I can use to control my PC and use as a coprocessor when booted, maybe if it had a Coral TPU or something. I remember hearing something about a RPi CM4 base board that has a PCIe connector that can plug into a 1x or 2x slot. (Don't remember exactly which one.) Thanks in advance. edit: Also. Use it for GPIO and serial ports.

During development I use snapshot images of sdcard and usb flash disk (nand-sata-install'ed). Unfortunately, the size of common flash/sdcards do start at 16GB nowadays. When I use Win32 Disk Imager, the backups are 2 * 16 GB. I can compress them on PC's disk but in and case writing them back to other sdcards/flash disks take ages. This is because it is a full image, although, say, something like 1 GB on each are used. If there a way to make bootable images which includes only the used parts of the sdcard/flash and be able to write them back?

As some might imagine, you can buy a bunch of different ribbon cables on Aliexpress. Different pitches, pins, etc... I could just buy the camera module but I would like an extended cable for my uses, just to be safe. It looks like the one it comes with is prolly only 6 inches. I can't quite discern from the product listings the type of ribbon cable used for OPi cameras and I'd like to know so that I can bundle it with my next purchase. So, if anyone who has one, can provide pictures (with something reliable to scale) or details, it would be much appreciated. If I find an extension option that proves to work, I'll post it here. Yes. I must say that im suprised. I installed Armbian 5.59 Bionic on Nanopi T4 and found little cores A53 overclocked 1.80GHZ and big A72 cores clocked 1.90GHZ. Im using double radiator 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm. It is not very hot. I was not expecting such good job from Nanopi. On Firefly RK3399 i must to use third 3.5x 3.5radiator and it is getting hot at clock speed 1.4ghz a53 and 1.81ghz a72.

Hi, No sure if this is the place to post this but here it goes. I use the Debian distro for my armbian deployments. Every time I deploy, and the system comes with systemd-resolved it gives me problems. I always have to remove it and use the /etc/resolv.conf file by it self. I would suggest removing this, it's not necessary or useful. -Cheers

Call to Action: Armbian donation round. Dear members of the community, Do you love the armbian OS? Are you frustrated by bugs or problems within armbian? Do you wish that armbian was even better with more releases? If the answer is yes keep reading because there may be a solution. As you know the dedicated team of developers here code this project in their spare time to develop an incredible Linux OS for our ARM devices. They do this for the love of this hobby and we all benefit from it because it is an open source project. One of the hurdles is the fast compiling of the armbian OS. To solve this i…

Hi, my rpi 4 with 4GB ram is now on my desk but I cannot find armbian for it: looking at github build repo I do not see any file regarding raspberry pi in general. So... is anyone interested to help me to work on it? Is there an armbian interest in having a Raspberry PI build? Why historically I cannot see any sign of interested in those boards? Please... I know of all of their HW limitations... but they sell millions of boards each year... it is clear that some million people out there find them useful so we (as community) should to deliver an armbian build for this SBC. Any thought? Any starting point? *Ciao …

I logged in to the Armbian forums today, for the first time in a long time. I got a message that I had to confirm my email. I didn't capture a screenshot and the screen is now gone. Hi all. Since I wanted a 3D intro for my Youtube Channel I started working with Blender again. Now the intro is finished I've got time to try to make a 3D Armbian Logo. Hi all, This is my first post after reading all the good work this community has done. My goal is to create a cheap cluster of ARM boards. I started with the RPI3 but that's getting expensive real quick and the board isn't that good performance wise. So I started looking for different, cheaper boards but it still wouldn't be cheap enough if you plan to run 30-40 of them. So I started looking at older Smartphones with OpenCL support and came to the Samsung Galaxy S4 (The Exynos version). It is an older phone but once was one of Samsungs flagships and still offers good performance for what I want. I know the Exynos 5410 was used on the Odroid XU, so in my opinio…

Working on an embedded SBC home automation application with a very small form factor. Size and reliability is at a premium. Just want to have a smart device at the door that will help notify and find me when someone presses the doorbell button, or detects motion at the entrance or curbside mailbox. Two way audio and outbound alerts are progressing nicely but complexity increases significantly when integrating video into the solution. For example, two widely used video trans-coding applications, ffmpeg and gstreamer, may or may not have hardware assisted image signal processing on the SBC. Is any form of image signal processing within scope when a board is supp…

Hello everyone! I am here to ask for knowledgeable suggestion: I am looking for a possibly armbian supported board capable of hardware transcoding a single 1920x1080 hdmi source at 15 fps. Source is coming from a usb UVC video grabber in raw yuv422 format. Hard requirements is to produce a rtsp stream at original resolution/framerate of the source. Soft requirements is to have also an HTML5 embeddable stream to use in a web application without needing a plugin. Tipically, this would be a MP4 (h.264 codec) and a webm (V8 codec) streams (possibly both to ensure best browser compatibility). This would be used for monitoring purposes by the user, so 5fps…

I've been seeding torrents on my CubieBoard2 earlier; in Juli I moved to one of my EspressoBIN boards. I allocated 128GB for the torrents (since it was stated that I needed at least 60GB for Armbian). -But now Armbian seem to take up 123GB on my dedicated transmission partition: $ df -h . Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sdc13 128G 123G 4.5G 97% /transmission It seems I have 388 completed Armbian files (and no other files). -Does this mean that something went out of control - like files not being deleted - or does it mean that the torrents use this much space now ?

Is it worth starting an Armbian wiki? It seems that for questions such as how do I write the raw file to an SD card, how do I disable LEDs on my whicheverPi, why doesn't my orange pi pc boot this work in progress image and so forth could be answered there. Hopefully it would reduce the Forum traffic for such things, but also when they do pop up a simple one line response with the wiki link is all that's required. I realise that there is the Armbian documentation, which is great, but only really covers how to use Armbian to build images. Equally there is gold mine of information in the forum, but it's sometimes buried a few pages deep or only comes to the surface…

Goodmorning, i would like to ask if someone have ever tried to use musl libc with Armbian. From some research appear that using it instead of glibc make programs consume a lot less ram and less space on disk. I never tried personally, but i'm curious about that because it could be especially useful for single board computer with less than 2gb of ram (like mine ). Since, from what i know, programs do not statically link to glibc, but dynamically link to a generic libc at runtime, could be possible to use musl as drop in replacement for libc, without rebuild everything? From what i know there could be some incompatibilities because glibc does not fully respect the…

I've liked the idea of having a little message board that was off the www and only accessible with wireless devices from the neighbors. It would be fine if the wireless were handled by a router and then use an adapter from Gigabit-to-USB port on an H3 device. I was wondering if anyone's tried that or has a favorite home cloud they'd recommend? There are various turnkey LAMP servers that could be installed to Armbian but it's a jungle out there. Messaging, message board, file sharing (or at least a repository), and maybe some kind of camera sharing. The camera sharing is because this is sometimes a dangerous neighborhood, and it'd be a big luxury if one neig…

Looking at the resulting /etc/defaults/armbian-motd file : netadmin@ups-monitor:/etc/update-motd.d$ cat /etc/default/armbian-motd # add space-separated list of MOTD script names (without number) to exclude them from MOTD # Example: # MOTD_DISABLE="header tips updates" MOTD_DISABLE="" ONE_WIRE="" # yes = show 1-wire temperature sensor…

Just wanted to announce that Armbian-NG (https://github.com/AndrewBCN/Armbian-NG/) has been chosen as the OS to power the new CNX Election Meddling System (https://www.cnx-software.com/2019/04/01/introducing-cnx-election-meddling-system/). Why? Because Python. Have a nice day and don't forget to vote!

I would like to announce that I am getting started on an armbian-derived project, Armbian-NG. This is not a fork of Armbian, nor a rewrite, it's a derived project that piggyback's on the excellent work by Igor and the entire armbian development team. I think of Armbian-NG as armbian's little clumsy brother, who is just learning to walk but has great potential. In as few words as possible, Armbian-NG will be a Python (set of) script(s) that runs natively on Aarch64 (64-bit ARM) hardware (running Ubuntu 18.04 or later) to build Armbian images. More details can be found here: https://github.com/AndrewBCN/Armbian-NG As with armbian, anybody is welcome to con…

ok i successfully installed the os, i'll come back later with more feedback. at the moment everything seems to work but this: some midi devices are just ignored when some are working (i guess it must be driver related) because i think the midi device that isn't working is so old (pre 2000 i believe) i dont think midi device was class compliant at time time (i.e.: i need a driver on OS X for it) that is ok, my nice yamaha keyboard and my drums works. nice.... bluetooth support seems to be broken, i can list devices, but not connect to them. i havent tested with my ad2p compatible devices yet. the devices are: microsoft 6000 bluetooth keyboard and a …

These days i did install on some devices debian buster (via armbian-build-system generated). On the Orange Pi One this did work also fine with the cpu-temperature (showing via armbianmonitor -m) On a Orange Pi PC2 and a NanoPi K1 Plus this doesnt work. First I did think this is a problem of the dev-image with debian buster where /sys/devices/virtual/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp doesnt show an output via cat or more - but its filesize does show a 4096 bytes size (also on a working device - and also rights 444 = rrr for the file): -r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 May 20 10:47 temp BUT NOW after a apt update & apt upgrade I also got thi…

Hi, I added an USB3.0 adapter to my rockpi4a , which results in: " enx000ec667f0a2 " ( eth1 ) Since NetworkManager is being used I tried to update this name using : " nmcli c modify armbian connection.interface-name "eth1" " But alas that does not seem to be picked up while nmconnection config file has been updated: cat /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/armbian.nmconnection [connection] id=armbian uuid=8f61a97c-d0f1-4cb2-be4a-3fe2b4c08e7c type=ethernet interface-name=eth1 <snip snip> Ideally this could be changed in armbian-config, but I realise this is a low-low rockpi-4…

I own Chuwi Hi12 tablet based on Atom X5-Z8300 which was a bad guy due to keyboard/overall handling. I've successfully got rid of windows & android from eMMC and installed Ubuntu Server x64 So I decided get rid of some components as touchscreen, speakers, cameras, battery and use it as SBC headless server. Sadly ribbon cables were glued and I damaged one or two of them, so this is one-way trip now I think. But I can't power it on now :/ There is no reaction to power button at all. Does anyone have some experience with such boards? What components are required to be connected in order to boot it up? teardown pics 1 teardown pics 2

Hi, First of all I love the Armbian distro on Orange Pi / H3. It's the best out there and what was missing from the beginning. Awesome job. Quick question: is there any reason why Armbian doesn't have Avahi preinstalled by default ? Of course there's no pb adding it afterward but it would be pretty convenient when working with a headless setup. Just curious, Thanks, Richard

What does determine the software available in softy, found in armbian-config? I easily installed NextCloudPi (ncp) using softy on a Buster based image for the OrangePi4. However it lacked an up to date python version needed for Home Assistant. I reinstalled Armbian using the Focal based image. Sadly softy did not list ncp as an option anymore. So I am a bit puzzled what software to expect from softy. The documentation ( https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Armbian-Config/#software ) did not mention anything about availability.

it's nice and handy to be able to backup our os image and restore it, just in case. The problem is that a full os backup need the root partition to be mounted read only. And some of us are running the device without any monitor attached (headless) or it's not very practical to get acces to the sdcard (for exemple, when the device is installed in the electrical cabinet) So, I had the idea of creating some kind of ramdisk with some utilities (base tools, ssh, rsync...) to backup the "offline" root partition and send it to another computer. Ultimately, this process could be started also by network boot, by U-Boot script. When you decide to backup the root pa…

Hey Armbian Forums! First post here, so excuse me if I'm not in the exact correct subforums, but I spent the better part of last night compiling an Armbian image specifically for the Banana Pi M2, it says unsupported which makes sense, because finding any information or images for this board has been a nightmare, I got the original Banana Pi Armbian image to load on it, but from there couldn't not figure out how to get the wifi working for the life of me, the M2 has the allwinner A31 chip, and AMPAK bluetooth/wifi chip on board as well, but for some reason the board wasn't picking them up, even after trying to modprobe different drivers and whatever else. So I booted up m…

Hey all I recently purchased this board and tried both raspbian and Armbian. After using both I have an amazing appreciation for this os. I’m currently running it with the default desktop, I think the only downfall issue I’ve found is the lack of realvnc. I also have a raspberry pi zero w that’s running dietpi with lxde but the bananapi puts it to shame anybody else tried out this combo yet?

I just received this sample sent by Nora Lee (Foxconn). I have put here the H3 and H5 side by side. I have been told it is pin to pin compatible so basically same pinctrl config would work, right? Let's find out, will try to build an Image with legacy and mainline and check out what we have here. Hey, don't expect a technical overview here.

Since my current board (Cubieboard 2) has been kicked out of the game, it's time to move on to a new one. Is there any chance to see an Armbian version for the Banana Pi R2 someday? This board is winner for me because of the Dual SATA feature (the router, not so much). If there are no plans for this board, please tell me for how long you'll support the Cubietruck, since it's my second choice. Thx in advance...

Within the next few weeks or months a new Banana Pi model called BPI-R2 will be available. The average buyer of this board thinks of the R2 being an upgrade of BPi-R1 (also known as Lamobo R1) and will also think that software support situation will be the same (trusting in Armbian, Bananian and OpenWRT here). R2 is NOT an upgrade, it's just an entirely different device using an MediaTek MT7623N SoC instead of an Allwinner chip as all the other boards of this vendor. What do we know about the hardware: Quad core Cortex-A7 'up to 1.3Ghz' (no performance numbers known, no info about real clockspeeds, currently cpufreq seems still to be broken: '/cpu…
